Based on biochemical markers, we studied the nutrition ranges of populations of Dreissena polymorpha and Dreissena bugensis mussels that inhabit the Volga reach of the Rybinsk reservoir and differ in the long-term population dynamics. Features of the nutrition ranges of mussels are regarded as the probable cause of changes in the number of mollusca.  相似文献

Flies from two populations of the Chilean endemic neotropical species Drosophila pavani and two populations of its sibling species Drosophila gaucha were crossed reciprocally to obtain intra- and interspecific hybrids. The developmental pathways of locomotor activity and feeding rate were analysed for eleven of twelve possible genotype groups. The hybrids showed reduced fitness indicated by a decrease in the measured traits. Hybrid disadvantage was strongest in interspecific hybrids, especially with respect to feeding behaviour. This evidence supports the contention that D. pavani and D. gaucha have evolved different coadapted gene pools controlling the developmental pathways for behavioural traits expressed during larval foraging; but genetic divergence affecting these behaviours has also taken place between locally adapted populations within each species.  相似文献

Sequence differentiation has been widely studied between populations and species, whereas interest in expression divergence is relatively recent. Using microarrays, we compared four geographically distinct populations of Drosophila simulans and a population of Drosophila sechellia, and interspecific hybrids. We observed few differences between populations, suggesting a slight population structure in D. simulans. This structure was observed in direct population comparisons, as well as in interspecific comparisons (hybrids vs. parents, D. sechellia vs. D. simulans). Expression variance is higher in the French and Zimbabwean populations than in the populations from the ancestral range of D. simulans (Kenya and Seychelles). This suggests a large scale phenomenon of decanalization following the invasion of a new environment. Comparing D. simulans and D. sechellia, we revealed 304 consistently differentially expressed genes, with striking overrepresentation of genes of the cytochrome P450 family, which could be related to their role in detoxification as well as in hormone regulation. We also revealed differences in genes involved in Juvenile hormone and Dopamine differentiation. We finally observed very few differentially expressed genes between hybrids and parental populations, with an overrepresentation of X-linked genes.  相似文献

Artificial interspecific hybrids between large scale loach P. dabryanus and tetraploid pond loach M. anguillicaudatus (Cobitidae, Cypriniformes) are viable. To detect the occurrence of possible natural hybridization, genetic analyses by using microsatellite markers were performed for natural populations of large scale loach and pond loach, the reciprocal laboratory hybrids, and “supposed hybrids” with ambiguous morphology. The fertility of the artificial hybrids was also tested. At one diagnostic microsatellite (Mac50), one out of 20 “supposed hybrids” was identified to be F1 hybrid between the two loach species because it had the same genotype as that of the laboratory hybrids. The triploid hybrids between the two species were confirmed to be female-sterile. The results show that rare hybridization has occurred between diploid large scale loach and tetraploid pond loach in nature although it may have little effect in genetic introgression. This study is helpful for fish conservation and encourages further investigation on natural hybridization and introgression of loaches.  相似文献

Ogataea parapolymorpha sp. n. (NRRL YB-1982, CBS 12304, type strain), the ascosporic state of Candida parapolymorpha, is described. The species appears homothallic, assimilates methanol as is typical of most Ogataea species and forms hat-shaped ascospores in asci that become deliquescent. O. parapolymorpha is closely related to Ogataea angusta and Ogataea polymorpha. The three species can be resolved from gene sequence analyses but are unresolved from fermentation and growth reactions that are typically used for yeast identification. On the basis of multiple isolates, O. angusta is known only from California, USA, in association with Drosophila and Aulacigaster flies, O. parapolymorpha is predominantly associated with insect frass from trees in the eastern USA but O. polymorpha has been isolated from various substrates in the USA, Brazil, Spain and Costa Rica.  相似文献

As a result of studies on the macrozoobenthos composition of zebra mussel biocenosis in Lake Pleshcheevo carried out in 1996, a total of 44 species of bottom macroinvertebrates were found. The richest in terms of species composition were chironomids (17 species), oligochaetes (13 species), and mollusks and leeches (5 species each). After the introduction of zebra mussel Dreissena polymorpha (Pallas) into the lake, a natural biophilter was formed in the waterbody at depths of 4.5 to 9 m. This biophilter intercepts a substantial part of degrading macrophytes and allochtonous organic matter. Thus, the filter prevents the income of this organic matter in the lake’s profundal zone. Two roach Rutilus rutilus (Linnaeus) groups had inhabited Lake Pleshcheevo before dreissena introduction. Comparatively fast growing roach fed predominantly on mollusks of g. g. Valvata and Bithynia, while slowly growing roach fed mostly on zooplankton. After the introduction and mass development of D. polymorpha in the lake, roach started to consume these mollusks. This resulted in increases in the fish growth rate and maximum body size. Roach starts to feed on dreissena and other mollusks after reaching a body length of 15.0 cm. This relates to the third and the last change in the pharyngeal teeth shape, making possible for the fish to consume mollusks and to crush their shells.  相似文献

The quagga mussel Dreissena rostriformis bugensis, native to the Dnieper and the northern Black Sea, has become a major invasive species in both the Volga River and the North American Great Lakes since the early 1990s. Findings in the Netherlands (2006) and Germany (2007) mark the start of its establishment in Western Europe. We investigated the current distribution, time of first arrival and population structure of D. rostriformis bugensis from the rivers Rhine, Main and in the Main-Danube canal in Germany. Two putative sources of the German populations were analysed by genetically comparing these populations to older invasive populations from North America and the southeast Danube. Dreissena rostriformis bugensis was abundant in the Main and in three Rhine harbours, but rare in the actual Rhine river and absent south of the Main-Danube canal. Mussels found in the Rhine harbours were significantly smaller than in the Main. Population genetic analyses found no sign of founder effects and minimal differentiation between German, North American and southeast Danube populations. The genetic data suggest that these invasive populations derive from a common and rapidly expanding source. Based on the non-continuous distribution and shell size differences of Rhine harbour and Main populations, our results indicate that expansion in Germany involved at least two independent settling events, one of which happened before 2005, and most likely was caused by jump dispersal.  相似文献

Nicotiana section Alatae contains eight species with variable flower sizes and morphologies. Section members readily hybridize in the glasshouse, but no hybrids have been observed in natural sympatric and parapatric populations. To investigate interspecific crossing relationships with respect to mechanisms preventing hybridization, all members of section Alatae were intercrossed in a complete diallel. We found positive correlation between the pistil length of the pollen donor and interspecific seed set relative to the conspecific cross. Pollen tube growth rate and pollen donor pistil length were positively correlated as well. Furthermore, pollen from short-pistil members of section Alatae could only grow a maximum distance proportional to, but greater than, their own pistil lengths. Our results show that pollen tube growth capacity (i.e., rate and distance), provides a hybridization barrier in long-pistil species × short-pistil species crosses. We also found another hybridization barrier not specifically related to pollen tube growth capacity in short-pistil species × long-pistil species. Taken together, these barriers can generally be described by a ‘pistil-length mismatch’ rule; in section Alatae, pollen has the most success fertilizing ovules from species with pistil lengths similar to their own. This rule could contribute to hybridization barriers in Section Alatae because the species display dramatically different pistil lengths. In the present investigation, the interspecific somatic hybridization between tuber mustard and red cabbage was established in order to introduce valuable genes from red cabbage (Brassica oleracea) into Brassica juncea. Prior to fusion treatment, protoplasts of red cabbage were inactivated with 2 mM iodoacetamide to inhibit cell division. Micro-calluses were obtained at a frequency of 10.3% after approximately 5 weeks culture following protoplast fusion. Some of the fusion-derived calluses possessed red pigmented cells after being transferred to proliferation medium, and they were presumably considered to be somatic hybrid cell lines. Plantlets were regenerated from 12 cell lines, of which nine plantlets exhibited characteristics intermediate of both parents in terms of plant morphology. With the exception of common protein bands featured by two parents, there were unique banding patterns produced in the hybrids by using SDS-PAGE analysis. By chromosome countings, it was showed that they ranged approximately from 2n=30 to 42 in chromosome numbers. Their hybridity were further confirmed by RAPD analysis revealing that genes of both parents were partially incorporated into the hybrids. Positively, all these hybrids were capable of seed-setting. The pod-setting was 4.2 in somatic hybrid H7 when backcrossed with tuber mustard.  相似文献

Mixed species groups and hybridization are common among primates, yet these phenomena are rare and poorly understood for the genus Alouatta. In this study, we describe the composition of howler groups in a sympatric area of Alouatta caraya and Alouatta clamitans and provide new evidence for the occurrence of interspecific hybridization. Between October 2006 and April 2007, 11 howler groups were located in a 150-ha forest fragment: two monospecific groups of A. caraya, two monospecific groups of A. clamitans, two groups composed of A. clamitans and hybrid morphotypes (A. caraya × A. clamitans), and five groups composed of both species together with hybrid morphotypes (mixed species groups). The average size of the studied groups was 5.2 ± 1.2 individuals. Monospecific and mixed groups (mixed species groups + groups with hybrids) did not differ significantly in their sizes. In total, the sex/age ratios were 1 AM:1.5 AF:0.2 SAM:0.5 JUV:0.2 INF and the species ratios were 1 A. caraya:1.6 A. clamitans:0.4 A. caraya × A. clamitans. The ratio of immatures to 1AF was larger in the monospecific groups (0.75 immatures:1AF) than in mixed groups (0.29 immatures:1AF), possibly reflecting a lower viability in the latter. Two features of the hybrid morphotypes of the upper Paraná River support their status as true hybrids: the polymorphism of their coloration patterns and the extremely female-biased sex ratio. The effects of Haldane’s rule and population fragmentation on the interactions between both species are discussed. The in vitro response of ovules obtained after pollination of cotton flowers with pollen from Abelmoschus esculentus was studied. For this, 492 cotton flowers from five G. hirsutum varieties, four G. barbadense varieties and 10 F1 interspecific hybrids, were pollinated with pollen from A. esculentus and 5,069 ovules were cultured in vitro. From the cultured ovules, 69 embryos were isolated and 16 of them grew into plants. However, only three of them survived after transplantation. Finally, one plant which originated from the interspecific cross (B403 × Acala Sindos) × A. esculentus reached maturity. The mature plant (Pa0) had no morphological traits from A. esculentus. On the contrary, traits from both cotton species were observed. The flowcytometric analysis of the Pa0 plant indicated that it was hypoaneuploid. Root tip chromosome counts of its offsprings revealed a progressive chromosome increase from the Pa1 to Pa4 generation. Plants with 52 chromosomes or hypoaneuploids with a lower level of chromosomes (46–51) could be isolated from the Pa4 generation. These plants exhibited morphological traits from both cotton species and they were fertile. No signs of A. esculentus morphological characteristics were observed in these plants. It was concluded that aneuploid partial interspecific cotton plants could be produced after pollination of cotton interspecific hybrids with pollen from A. esculentus and application of an in-ovule embryo rescue technique.  相似文献

Hybridization between plant species can have a number of biological consequences; interspecific hybridization has been tied to speciation events, biological invasions, and diversification at the level of genes, metabolites, and phenotypes. This study aims to provide evidence of transgressive segregation in the expression of primary and secondary metabolites in hybrids between Jacobaea vulgaris and J. aquaticus using an NMR-based metabolomic profiling approach. A number of F2 hybrid genotypes exhibited metabolomic profiles that were outside the range encompassed by parental species. Expression of a number of primary and secondary metabolites, including jacaronone analogues, chlorogenic acid, sucrose, glucose, malic acid, and two amino acids was extreme in some F2 hybrid genotypes compared to parental genotypes, and citric acid was expressed in highest concentrations in J. vulgaris. Metabolomic profiling based on NMR is a useful tool for quantifying genetically controlled differences between major primary and secondary metabolites among plant genotypes. Interspecific plant hybrids in general, and specifically hybrids between J. vulgaris and J. aquatica, will be useful for disentangling the ecological role of suites of primary and secondary metabolites in plants, because interspecific hybridization generates extreme metabolomic diversity compared to that normally observed between parental genotypes.  相似文献

The European bitterling, Rhodeus amarus, is a non-indigenous fish species in British fresh waters. It lays its eggs in unionid mussels which themselves are vulnerable to fouling by the non-indigenous zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha. Observations from an unmanipulated natural system showed that only 27% of zebra mussel-fouled Unio pictorum hosted bitterling, while 47% of unfouled U. pictorum hosted bitterling. We conducted a field experiment in the River Great Ouse catchment, Cambridgeshire, England in May–June 2007 and 2008 to quantify the impact of zebra mussels on bitterling load in host mussels. Zebra mussel-fouled unionids were significantly less likely to host bitterling than unfouled unionids. The number of unionids hosting bitterling did not differ significantly whether the zebra mussels fouling the unionid were alive or dead. Bitterling appeared to discriminate against zebra mussel-fouled unionids less as the 2007 breeding season advanced, potentially because preferred unfouled unionids had a higher bitterling load, and were therefore relatively lower quality hosts than at the start of the breeding season.  相似文献

Synopsis Feeding ecology was compared between sympatric greenling species, Hexagrammos otakii and H. agrammus in the eelgrass beds in Jindong Bay, Korea, from January to December. These two species had similar diets composed of crustaceans, polychaetes, gastropods and fishes; both species consumed primarily crustaceans throughout study periods. H. otakii, however, fed a greater proportion of polychaetes and fishes than H. agrammus. H. agrammus had a greater proportion of gastropods in their diets. The diet of both species underwent size-related changes; smaller individuals of H. otakii and H. agrammus consumed amphipods (gammarid amphipods and caprellid amphipods), while larger individuals of H. otakii ate polychaetes and fishes and those of H. agrammus fed mainly on gastropods and crabs. The diet of H. otakii underwent seasonal changes; H. otakii consumed mainly polychaetes and fishes during January and February 2002 but amphipods during March and May 2002. H. agrammus, however, ate mainly gastropods and crabs all seasons. H. otakii underwent also a significant diel changes that could be related to difference of prey availability. Thus the nocturnal emergence of gammarid amphipods, polychaetes and fishes explained their greater consumption by H. otakii. Dietary breadth of both species was lower in the smallest individuals (<5 cm SL) and in March and April 2002. This was due to the disproportionate dry mass attributable to the consumption of amphipods by both H. otakii and H. agrammus. Dietary overlap of both species was relatively moderate to high, in particular in <9.9 cm SL (0.62 – 0.71) from May to July 2002 (0.63 – 0.71). This is coincident with higher abundances of crabs, caridean shrimps and polychaetes in the study area, and it was assumed that these prey species were not limited resources. Higher dietary overlap was correlated with an abundance of a shared resource and did not indicate the interspecific competition between H. otakii and H. agrammus.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown widespread conservation of gene expression levels between species of the Drosophila melanogaster subgroup as well as a positive correlation between coding sequence divergence and expression level divergence between species. Meanwhile, large-scale misregulation of gene expression level has been described in interspecific sterile hybrids between D. melanogaster, D. simulans, D. mauritiana, and D. sechellia. Using data from gene expression analysis involving D. simulans, D. melanogaster, and their hybrids, we observed a significant positive correlation between protein sequence divergence and gene expression differences between hybrids and their parental species. Furthermore, we demonstrate that underexpressed misregulated genes in hybrids are evolving more rapidly at the protein sequence level than nonmisregulated genes or overexpressed misregulated genes, highlighting the possible effects of sexual and natural selection as male-biased genes and nonessential genes are the principal gene categories affected by interspecific hybrid misregulation. We studied the parental taxa and the interspecific reciprocal hybrids between Larix leptolepis with Larix gmelinii, using classical cytogenetic methods, as well as fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and genomic in situ hybridization. A high frequency (>90%) of complete bivalent formation was observed in reciprocal hybrids. Less than 10% of pollen mother cells exhibited abnormalities. The most frequent abnormalities were bridges. Multivalent chromosome associations were also observed in both reciprocal hybrids, suggesting that some chromosome interchange events did occur, and introgressions from one to the other species were possible. Intergenomic recombination indicates that genes might be readily introgressed into one species from the other in the genus Larix. Interspecific hybridization may be a potential method for genetic improvement in larch. FISH markers documented that the recombinant genomes of reciprocal hybrids were strictly additive and stable, indicating that FISH also might be a useful tool in Larix breeding.  相似文献

Interspecific reciprocal crosses between the two flatfishes Paralichthys olivaceus and P. dentatus yielded hybrids with different viabilities. Specifically, the hybrids of P. olivaceus female and P. dentatus male (HI) were found to be viable, while the reciprocal hybrids from P. dentatus female and P. olivaceus male (HII) were completely inviable. All the HII individuals showed morphological deformities and died before first feeding. The chromosome analysis showed that HI individuals had the same chromosome number as parents. However, two chromosomes were missing in HII offspring indicating that the latter were aneuploids. Genomic inheritance from the parents to F1 progeny was also examined by amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analyses, and the results showed differences between reciprocal hybrids. Almost all AFLP bands (97.71%) observed in parents were passed on to HI individuals. In contrast, only 86.64% of the AFLP bands from parents were scored in HII individuals. Frequency of lost parental bands was thus significantly higher in HII than that in HI and intraspecific crosses, which was probably associated with chromosomal elimination. In addition, higher segregation distortions were found in hybrids than in controls, although these differences were not significant. The present study indicates that chromosomal elimination and loss of AFLP loci occurred in inviable HII individuals, while such genomic changes were not found in viable HI individuals. Possible implications of such difference on genomic changes for asymmetric viability in reciprocal hybrids are discussed.  相似文献

Invasive exotic plants can persist and successfully spread within ecosystems and negatively affect the recruitment of native species. The exotic invasive Ailanthus altissima and the native Robinia pseudoacacia are frequently found in disturbed sites and exhibit similar growth and reproductive characteristics, yet each has distinct functional roles such as allelopathy and nitrogen fixation, respectively. A four-month full additive series in the greenhouse was used to analyze the intraspecific and interspecific interference between these two species. In the greenhouse experiment, the inverse of the mean total biomass (g) response per plant for each species was regressed on the density of each species and revealed that the performance of the plants was significantly reduced by interspecific interference and not by intraspecific interference (p < 0.05). Other biomass traits such as root dry weight, shoot dry weight, stem dry weight, and leaf dry weight were also negatively affected by interspecific interference. Competition indices such as Relative Yield Total and Relative Crowding Coefficient suggested that A. altissima was the better competitor in mixed plantings. Ailanthus altissima consistently produced a larger above ground and below ground relative yield while R. pseudoacacia generated a larger aboveground relative yield in high density mixed species pots.  相似文献

Willow grouse (L. lagopus) and rock ptarmigan (L. muta) are sibling species with similar phenotypic and life histories that coexist sympatrically in wide areas of their distribution range. These grouse are amongst the most popular game birds in Scandinavia but contrary to other quarry species, no restocking with captive-bred animals has ever been performed. The discovery of two individuals with intermediate plumage features evoked the question of possible hybridization events between both species, an idea that did not seem too unlikely on the basis of habitat overlap. Thus, to assess whether any genetic exchange is occurring, we used different Bayesian-based admixture analyses of multilocus genotypes determined at twelve microsatellite loci. We also obtained mitochondrial COI-sequences from a selected number of individuals to infer the maternal geneflow and potential introgression. The capacity of our panel of microsatellite markers to detect hybridization was verified using assignments of simulated genotypes. We then evaluated the extent of hybridization in an actual sample of 111 individuals collected in a 100-km2 area in the Scandinavian mountain range. An admixed condition was verified in one of the suspected hybrids, that seemed to carry a L. muta genotype with partial L. lagopus introgression. In addition, more than 4% of L. lagopus showed signs of hybridization under the most conservative scenario with respect to discrepancies between population assignment methods. This was unexpected, given that no L. lagopus displayed any apparent intermediate plumage features. Furthermore, interspecific geneflow of mtDNA haplotypes was lower than expected; which suggests that Haldane’s rule might apply for these two grouse species. Hence, plumage identification of hybrid ancestry is not always reliable and might lead to biases in the estimation of hybridization rates. Hybridisation may be expected to increase if the climate gets warmer as the habitat overlap between the species will become more extensive. We discuss whether hybridisation is a threat to the long-term survival of any of the two species.  相似文献

Success of interspecific hybridization relies mostly on the adequate similarity between the implicated genomes to ensure synapsis, pairing and recombination between appropriate chromosomes during meiosis in allopolyploid species. Allotetraploid Brassica napus (AACC) is a model of natural hybridization between Brassica rapa (AA) and Brassica oleracea (CC), which are originally derived from a common ancestor, but genomic constitution of the same chromosomes probably varied among these species through time after establishment, giving rise to cytogenetic difference in the synthetic hybrids. Herein we investigated meiotic behaviors of A and C chromosomes of synthetic allotriploid Brassica hybrids (ACC) at molecular and cytological levels, which result from the interspecific cross between natural B. napus (AACC) and B.oleracea (CC), and the results showed that meiosis course was significantly aberrant in allotriploid Brassica hybrids, and chromosomes aligned chaotically at metaphase I, chromosome bridges and lags were frequently observed from later metaphase I to anaphase II during meiosis. Simultaneously, we also noticed that meiosis-related genes were abruptly down-regulated in allotriploid Brassica hybrids, which likely accounted for irregular scenario of meiosis observed in these synthetic hybrids. Therefore, these results indicated that inter-genomic exchanges of A and C chromosomes could occur frequently in synthetic Brassica hybrids, and provided an efficient approach for genetic changes of homeologous chromosomes during meiosis in polyploid B.napus breeding program.  相似文献
