Winter tree pruning is a cultural practice known to modify vegetative growth, which is likely to affect the development of pests. However, it has been poorly addressed as a cultural control method for diminishing the population levels of the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Homoptera: Aphididae), in peach [ Prunus persica (L.) Batsch (Rosaceae)] orchards. In this study, we conducted a 2-year, on-station experiment to evaluate how winter pruning affects peach– M. persicae interactions, by examining tree vegetative growth, aphid population dynamics, and crop yield and fruit quality. We collected data under an insect-proof shelter on adult peach trees submitted to various levels of pruning and artificially infested with aphids. Our results showed that pruning enhanced shoot growth due to the proportion of growing shoots, which increased exponentially (10–60%), whereas the growth rate of growing shoots was not affected. The degree of infestation of peach trees increased with increasing pruning intensity. This effect was mainly due to the increase of the proportion of growing shoots, on which aphids developed better than on rosettes. In turn, the higher the aphid infestation, the higher the aphid-induced shoot-tip damage, leaf curling, and leaf fall that disturbed the growth of growing shoots. However, aphids did not considerably reduce fruit quality at harvest. They did not affect fresh fruit weight, and the refractometric index (indicator of sugar content) was reduced by only 3–4%. The relevance of winter pruning as a cultural method for pest control in orchards conducted under integrated fruit production guidelines is discussed.  相似文献

Verticillium wilt is one of the most destructive diseases of eggplant (Solanum melongena L.). Some researchers have reported that wilt was encouraged by sufficient soil humidity, while others stated that it was encouraged by drought. This study investigated the water stress effect on the severity of Verticillium wilt on eggplant, as it is reflected on yield, agronomic traits and fruit quality. Thus, eggplant seedlings cv. ‘Tsakoniki’ were transplanted in three rows, each with 20 plants, during the summer of 1995 and 1996 in a plastic greenhouse, at the Agricultural Research Center of Macedonia and Thrace. Ten of the plants in each row were inoculated with the fungus Verticillium dahliae, while the other 10 were used as controls. Rows were irrigated every 2, 4 or 6 days. Soil humidity was calculated before every irrigation in each row. The disease severity was estimated by the disease index (DI) as the combination product of leaf symptom index (LSI) and vascular discoloration index (VDI). In addition, the plant height, early and total commercial yields, fruit numbers of early and total commercial yields, plant weight, the above-ground plant weight, root weight, pH, total soluble solids and fruit brilliance plus colour intensity were measured. The effect of Verticillium wilt on plants irrigated every 2, 4 or 6 days was estimated by the correlation coefficient (r) between LSI and DI and the aforementioned characteristics. Verticillium wilt had a significant but negative effect on all of the measured or calculated characteristics. This effect, however, was independent of the irrigation applied. On average, the early commercial yield was reduced by 40.8% and the final commercial yield by 39.4%. The only quality characteristic that was affected significantly by irrigation was the fruit brilliance and colour intensity (r =?0.640 to ? 0.727, P ≤ 0.01). Finally, the irrigation frequency (every 2, 4 or 6 days) had a significant but negative effect on all of the characteristics measured on the control plants. The only exception was fruit quality. In conclusion, the combined effect of irrigation and Verticillium wilt infection significantly reduced the early and total production of eggplant and spoiled the fruit quality.  相似文献

The present study aimed to clarify the relationship between sugars and vitamin C in fruit. The objective was to determine whether vitamin C content was regulated by sugar content due to the role of sugar as a precursor for vitamin C. During summer, maximal content in sugar and vitamin C were found in both genotypes tested Solanum lycopersicon ‘Cervil’ and ‘Levovil’. During autumn, fruit pruning increased fruit size and hexose content but fruit vitamin C content did not increase. Therefore sugar substrate was not limiting for vitamin C synthesis during autumn. We demonstrated for two cultivars, ‘Cervil’ and ‘Levovil’, with different sugar accumulation profiles during ripening, that sugar content was not determinant in the regulation of vitamin C content. The strong correlation observed between sugars and vitamin C in ‘Cervil’ was due to their concomitant increase during fruit ripening.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the relative salt tolerance of four eggplant cultivars (Solanum melongena L.) by studying chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence parameters during the vegetative growth stage under increasing salinity levels. The plants were grown in pots filled with peat under controlled conditions and were subjected to the salt stress ranging from 0 (control), 20, 40, 80, and 160 mM NaCl for 25 days. The results showed that the increasing NaCl concentration affected hardly the maximum quantum yield of photosystem (PS) II. The quantum yield of PSII (ΦPSII) decreased significantly in ‘Adriatica’ and ‘Black Beauty’ under the salt stress. The photochemical quenching decreased in ‘Black Beauty’ and nonphotochemical quenching increased in ‘Adriatica’ under the salt stress. The Chl fluorescence parameters did not change significantly under the salt stress in ‘Bonica’ and ‘Galine’, revealing their tolerance to salinity. After 25 days of the salt stress, the plant growth was reduced in all cultivars, however, this decline was more pronounced in ‘Adriatica’ and ‘Black Beauty’. Additionally, a significant correlation between the biomass and ΦPSII was observed in ‘Adriatica’ and ‘Black Beauty’. Our results suggest that ΦPSII can be used as a diagnostic tool to identify salt-tolerant egg-plant cultivars.  相似文献

This study attempted to eradicate Apple stem pitting virus (ASPV) and Apple stem grooving virus (ASGV) from virus‐infected in vitro shoots of apple rootstocks ‘M9’ and ‘M26’ using shoot tip culture and cryopreservation. In shoot tip culture, shoot tips (0.2 mm in length) containing two leaf primordia failed to show shoot regrowth. Although shoot regrowth rate was the highest in the largest shoot tips (1.0 mm in length) containing four leaf primordia, none of the regenerated shoots was virus‐free. Shoot tips (0.5 mm in length) containing two and three leaf primordia produced 100% and 10% of ASPV‐free shoots, respectively, while those (1.0 mm) containing four leaf primordia were not able to eradicate ASPV. ASGV could not be eradicated by shoot tip culture, regardless of the size of the shoot tips tested. In cryopreservation, shoot tips (0.5 mm in length) containing two leaf primordia did not resume shoot growth. Although 1.0‐mm and 1.5‐mm shoot tips gave similarly high ASPV‐free frequencies, the latter had much higher shoot regrowth rate than the former. Very similar results of shoot regrowth and virus eradication by shoot tip culture and cryopreservation were observed in both ‘M9’ and ‘M26’. Histological observations showed that only cells in upper part of apical dome and in leaf primordia 1–3 survived, while other cells were damaged or killed, in shoot tips following cryopreservation. Virus immunolocalization found ASPV was not detected in upper part of apical dome and leaf primordia 1 and 2, but was present in lower part of apical dome, and in leaf primordium 4 and more developed tissues in all samples tested. ASPV was also detected in leaf primordium 3 in about 16.7% and 13.3% samples tested in ‘M9’ and ‘M26’. ASGV was observed in apical dome and leaf primordia 1–6, leaving only a few top layers of cells in apical dome free of the virus. Different abilities of ASPV and ASGV to invade leaf petioles and shoot tips were also noted.  相似文献

During two consecutive years (2010 and 2011) we evaluated the impact of Progerbalin LG® (mixture of gibberellins (GA4+7) and N 6-benzyladenine) on fruit weight, fruit dimensions, elongation, geometric mean diameter or fruit size, aspect ratio, surface area and fruit volume of five apple cultivars belonging to ‘Red Delicious’ group (‘Hapke’ grafted on M.9 and M.26, ‘Hi Red’, ‘Starking’ and ‘Top Red’ on M.9, and ‘Red Chief Camspur’ on MM.106 rootstock). Trees were sprayed twice with 30, 50 or 100 ml L?1 i.e. between 80 % of open flowers and the following petal fall (first treatment), and 10 days after first application (second treatment); control trees were not sprayed. Results showed that the lowest dose increased fruit weight in all cultivars, except ‘Top Red’ and ‘Red Chief Camspur’; this dose promoted fruit dimensions, fruit size and elongation in ‘Hapke’ on both rootstocks, and also fruit dimensions, surface area and fruit volume in ‘Hi Red’. Regarding ‘Starking’, different doses of Progerbalin LG® did not affect other properties evaluated, but season played an important role in these cases. In contrast, the highest dose of this hormone improved all physical attributes in ‘Top Red’ and ‘Red Chief Camspur’, except elongation and/or aspect ratio. 研究了不同修剪方式对红富士密植园树冠内枝(梢)叶片空间分布和光分布特征及果实产量品质的影响.结果表明:与对照相比,重剪、轻剪均明显改善了树冠内部光照条件,轻剪处理树冠内小于30%的相对光照强度占树冠体积的14.6%,大于80%的高光区占11.2%;重剪处理树冠内小于30%的相对光照强度占树冠体积的12.8%,大于80%的高光区占28.8%.轻剪处理第1年的果实产量相对较高,而重剪处理第1年的果实产量较低,但二者都明显提高了果实的品质.各处理单果质量、果实硬度和可溶性固形物的含量表现为:轻剪株﹥重剪株﹥对照株,而可滴定酸的含量则相反;重剪株果实花青苷的含量最高,其次是轻剪株,对照株最低.从产量品质两方面分析,轻剪是目前苹果密植园改造比较理想的方式.  相似文献

本试验采用发光二极管(LED)精准调控光源环境,以‘改良大龙茄’为试材,在前期探明红/蓝组合光(R/B)=3/1有利于培育茄子壮苗基础上,以R/B=3/1(9/3,CK1)和LED白光(W,CK2)为对照,分别设定LED红蓝白组合光为: R/B/W=3/1/1(9/3/3,T1)、R/B/W=9/3/8(T2)、R/B/W=3/1/6(9/3/18,T3)和R/B/W=3/1/16(9/3/48,T4),研究其对茄子幼苗生长、根系发育及定植后茄子产量和品质的影响,以期为茄子集约化高效育苗和设施生产补光提供理论依据和技术指导.结果表明: R/B/W=9/3/8组合光处理下,茄子幼苗株高、茎粗、壮苗指数、地上部干重、根干重、根系发育,以及定植后茄皮花青素、类黄酮含量和前期产量均较高;R/B/W=3/1/1组合光处理下,幼苗根冠比、定植后茄皮总酚和果肉中可溶性糖含量较高;而R/B/W=3/1/6组合光处理下,全株叶面积及定植后茄子果肉中游离氨基酸含量较高;R/B/W=3/1/16组合光处理下,定植后茄子果肉中可溶性蛋白含量较高.不同红蓝白组合光可不同程度提高茄子幼苗质量及定植后茄子前期产量和品质,以R/B/W=9/3/8组合光效果最显著.  相似文献

Abstract

A closed hydroponic system combined with a horizontal uniaxial clinostat has been used to grow tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.) under simulated microgravity conditions. The study was carried out to evaluate the quanti-qualitative traits (growth, yield and quality) of the dwarf tomato variety ‘Micro-Tom’ grown under simulated microgravity conditions and to determine if tomato plants would complete their life cycle (‘seed-to-seed’). Morphological and growth characteristics of ‘Micro-Tom’ were modified during clinorotation treatment. The ‘Micro-Tom’ plants grown under simulated microgravity exhibited a spreading growth and an increasing of the internode length. Total fruit yield, small fruit yield, leaf area, leaf dry weight, fruit dry weight, total dry weight and shoot – root ratio were lower in the clinorotated tomato plants than those grown in the control treatment. Foliar amount of carotenoids, and chlorophyll a and b were also substantially reduced under simulated microgravity conditions. Quality parameters (total soluble solids and fruit dry matter) of tomato plants were also negatively affected by clinorotation. The number of flowers per plant was increased by 32% in clinorotated plants versus controls. Fruit setting was reduced by 46% under clinorotation, while no significant difference was recorded for the pollen fertility and the seed number in small and large fruits. Clinorotation-exposed and control seeds were used in a germination trial in order to evaluate whether the seeds so formed were viable and if subsequent generations might be obtained in microgravity. Seeds formed under simulated microgravity proved to be biologically and functionally complete (germination = 78.6%) showing that ‘Micro-Tom’ plants could realize complete ontogenesis, from seed to seed in microgravity.  相似文献

A better understanding of the genetic control of tree architecture would potentially allow improved tailoring of newly bred apple cultivars in terms of field management aspects, such as planting density, pruning, pest control and disease protection. It would also have an indirect impact on yield and fruit quality. The Columnar (Co) locus strongly suppresses lateral branch elongation and is the most important genetic locus influencing tree architecture in apple. Co has previously been mapped on apple linkage group (LG) 10. In order to obtain fine mapping of Co, both genetically and physically, we have phenotypically analysed and screened three adult segregating experimental populations, with a total of 301 F1 plants, and one substantial 3-year old population of 1,250 F1 plants with newly developed simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers, based on the ‘Golden delicious’ apple genome sequence now available. Co was found to co-segregate with SSR marker Co04R12 and was confined in a region of 0.56 cM between SSR markers Co04R11 and Co04R13, corresponding to 393 kb on the ‘Golden delicious’ genome sequence. In this region, 36 genes were predicted, including at least seven sequences potentially belonging to genes that could be considered candidates for involvement in control of shoot development. Our results provide highly reliable, virtually co-segregating markers that will facilitate apple breeding aimed at modifications of the tree habit and lay the foundations for the cloning of Co.  相似文献

The transmission of Apple mosaic virus (ApMV; hop, H and intermediate, I serotypes) in Australian hop cultivars was assessed in glasshouse and field trials. Under field conditions, the rate of ApMV transmission was halved when contact between neighboring plants was prevented by early season applications of paraquat to restrict basal shoot growth. However, in a separate field trial the presence of root grafts between hop plants, which may contribute to virus transmission, was also suggested. In glasshouse trials, ApMV was transmitted successfully to hop by the mechanical inoculation of infective sap, simulated pruning, foliar contact, and root grafting, but not by root contact. The rate of mechanical transmission of ApMV to the hop cultivar ‘Victoria’ was greater than to other hop cultivars commonly grown in Australia. However, success of mechanical transmission of ApMV also appeared to be influenced by the cultivar from which inoculum was obtained. ApMV was detected throughout the year in all tissues, in chronically infected field grown plants of cultivar ‘Victoria’, suggesting a uniform virus distribution. The reliability of ApMV detection by serology did not decline in ‘Victoria’ plants later in the growing season as occurred in other cultivars.  相似文献

Touriga Franca grapevines were grown in Open-Top Chamber (OTC) and in outside plot (Exterior) for 3 years (2004–2006) to investigate the impact of these structures on climatic conditions and, consequently, on physiological and yield attributes. In general, CO2 assimilation, stomatal conductance, carbohydrate concentration, maximum bulk modulus of elasticity, palisade parenchyma thickness, leaf mass per unit area and values of red/far-red ratio transmitted by leaves were lower, whereas intrinsic water use efficiency, SPAD-readings and osmotic potential at full turgor were higher in OTC leaves. However, OTC did not affect leaf water potential, maximum PSII photochemical efficiency, stomatal density and soluble proteins concentration. Also, there were no significant differences in C, P, Ca and Fe between treatments. Meanwhile, N and Mg were higher, whereas K concentration was lower in OTC leaves. The environmental conditions inside OTC provided a significant reduction in yield and Ravaz index of 2004, mainly due to a decrease in clusters weight. Regarding the vegetative growth parameters, OTC did not influence the pruning weight, but in 2006 the weight/shoot was significantly lower in OTC vines. In conclusion, the use OTC facility to study the impact of CO2 enrichment was very expedite, but the extrapolation of results to the open-field environment must be prudent due to the OTC effect.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of our study was to use fruit set and inflorescence size to characterize the positional (position along the shoot) and/or temporal (relative time of budburst and flowering) influences on competition between reproductive laterals within an annual shoot. The relative time of budburst and flowering, and the relative position within the shoot of reproductive buds were recorded on 2-year-old shoots of ‘Granny Smith’ and ‘Golden Delicious’ apple (Malus × domestica (Borkh.)) trees. The trees were grown at two locations in South Africa, a cool area, Koue Bokkeveld, and a warm area, Warm Bokkeveld, with sufficient and insufficient winter chilling, respectively. Inflorescence size (leaf number, leaf area, and flower number) did not differ temporally or with position. For both cultivars, fruit set in the cool area was acrotonic and independent of relative flowering time, while it was more influenced by temporal (primigenic) dominance in the warm area. Therefore, there is a clear positional advantage within the shoot to fruit set in cool areas (i.e., better local climate conditions for the growing fruit), while there is a clear temporal advantage (first bud to burst sets a fruit), or a “first come, first serve” approach to fruit set, in warm areas, which have limited and delayed budbreak. Inflorescence size and fruit set indicate a separation of environmental (degree of winter chilling) and innate factors in competition among reproductive buds along the 2-year-old annual shoot.  相似文献

Extreme weather conditions with negative impacts can strongly affect agricultural production. In the Danjiangkou reservoir area, citrus yields were greatly influenced by cold weather conditions and drought stress in 2011. Soil straw mulching (SM) practices have a major effect on soil water and thermal regimes. A two-year field experiment was conducted to evaluate whether the SM practices can help achieve favorable citrus fruit yields. Results showed that the annual total runoff was significantly (P<0.05) reduced with SM as compared to the control (CK). Correspondingly, mean soil water storage in the top 100 cm of the soil profile was increased in the SM as compared to the CK treatment. However, this result was significant only in the dry season (Jan to Mar), and not in the wet season (Jul to Sep) for both years. Interestingly, the SM treatment did not significantly increase citrus fruit yield in 2010 but did so in 2011, when the citrus crop was completely destroyed (zero fruit yield) in the CK treatment plot due to extremely low temperatures during the citrus overwintering stage. The mulch probably acted as an insulator, resulting in smaller fluctuations in soil temperature in the SM than in the CK treatment. The results suggested that the small effects on soil water and temperature changes created by surface mulch had limited impact on citrus fruit yield in a normal year (e.g., in 2010). However, SM practices can positively impact citrus fruit yield in extreme weather conditions.  相似文献

 通过盆栽试验研究了返青期根修剪对冬小麦(Triticum aestivum)后期耐旱性及水分利用效率的影响。在返青期设置了两个根修剪处理: 1)小剪根, 在植株一侧切去部分侧生根; 2)大剪根, 在主茎四周切去部分侧生根。不剪根者设为对照(CK)。研究结果显示, 两个根修剪处理均显著减少了小麦的根系, 但对根冠比没有显著影响。在花期, 两个根修剪处理的小麦旗叶的叶绿素荧光参数最大光化学效率(The maximum photochemical efficiency of PSⅡ, Fv/Fm)、 PSⅡ潜在活性 (PSⅡ potential activity, Fv/Fo)、实际光化学量子产量(Effective PSⅡ quantum yield, ΦPSⅡ)、表观光合电子传递速率(Apparent rate of photosynthetic electron transport, ETR)、光化学淬灭系数( Coefficient of photochemical quenching, qP)和非光化学淬灭系数(Coefficient of non-photochemical quenching, NPQ)值, 在停止供水7 d后, 均显著高于对照, 这表明根修剪小麦的耐旱性强于对照, 因此在干旱胁迫下有较高的光化学活性。小剪根处理在高水条件下对小麦产量无显著影响, 而在中度干旱条件下显著提高了小麦的产量, 因此, 小剪根处理显著提高了小麦的抗旱系数; 小剪根处理在高水分处理(土壤水分含量为田间持水量的85%)和中度干旱胁迫处理(土壤水分含量为田间持水量的55%)条件下, 均显著提高了小麦的水分利用效率。但大剪根处理由于严重影响了群体数量和产量, 水分利用效率和抗旱系数均没有提高。可见, 适当地减少根系有助于小麦的耐旱性和水分利用效率的提高。  相似文献

 柠条(Caragana korshinskii)在地上组织破坏后进行补偿性生长,这是重复利用柠条资源的基础,但对 柠条不同刈割方式下营养生长补偿的模式有待探讨。该文通过5种刈割方式:去除主枝长的30%(30%RSL) 、去除主枝长的60%(60%RSL)、去除分枝数的25%(25%RSN)、去除分枝数的50%(50%RSN)和去除分枝 数的100%(100%RSN)来研究柠条的营养生长补偿。结果表明:刈割处理的柠条生物量当年发生了超补偿 ,当年生枝数/枝、当年生枝长、当年生枝生物量/枝、当年生枝生物量/株比对照高。对照、30%RSL和 60%RSL 处理未长出基梢。 100%RSN处理的基梢数/刈割枝、基梢长、单个基梢平均生物量显著高于25%RSN 和50%RSN处理,基梢生物量/株随刈割去除生物量的增加而增加。100%RSN 处理未结果,其它处理果实产量 表现出超补偿或精确补偿。对照处理营养生长和生殖生长均低,其它处理当年生枝生物量与果实产量成显 著负相关。从整个生长季节来看,营养生长主要集中在果实成熟之前。我们认为,100%RSN处理是柠条地上 组织破坏后尽快恢复的合理方式,其当年生生物量远高于其它处理。顶端优势的破坏促使休眠芽的萌发, 根冠比的改变使地上组织获得较多养分和水分,根系储存的碳水化合物的供应是促使刈割柠条营养生长超 补偿的的可能机制,而减少生殖生长对资源的消耗,是100%RSN处理地上生物量尽快恢复的另一重要因素 。  相似文献

Conidia of Venturia inaequalis were used to inoculate mature (picking ripe stage) Granny Smith fruit in greenhouse inoculation chambers and in the orchard. Wetting periods necessary for fruit infection were longer than those previously reported for leaves, while continuous wetting was followed by heavier infection than intermittent wetting. Temperatures during storage affected symptom development and the degree of infection was greatly influenced by the inoculum potential (number of conidia). At high inoculum potentials and with infection indices [fruit wetting period (h) × mean temperature (°C)] of 440–600, 601–1000 and >1000 subsequent disease development was ‘light’, ‘moderate’ and ‘heavy’, respectively if fruit was unprotected by fungicides. It was concluded that after conditions favouring infection, fruit should not be stored for long periods, but should be marketed for consumption immediately after harvest.  相似文献

Background and Aims

There is good evidence for deciduous trees that competition for carbohydrates from shoot growth accentuates early fruit abscission and reduces yield but the effect for evergreen trees is not well defined. Here, whole-tree tip-pruning at anthesis is used to examine the effect of post-pruning shoot development on fruit abscission in the evergreen subtropical tree macadamia (Macadamia integrifolia, M. integrifolia × tetraphylla). Partial-tree tip-pruning is also used to test the localization of the effect.

Methods

In the first experiment (2005/2006), all branches on trees were tip-pruned at anthesis, some trees were allowed to re-shoot (R treatment) and shoots were removed from others (NR treatment). Fruit set and stem total non-structural carbohydrates (TNSC) over time, and yield were measured. In the second experiment (2006/2007), upper branches of trees were tip-pruned at anthesis, some trees were allowed to re-shoot (R) and shoots were removed from others (NR). Fruit set and yield were measured separately for upper (pruned) and lower (unpruned) branches.

Key Results

In the first experiment, R trees set far fewer fruit and had lower yield than NR trees. TNSC fell and rose in all treatments but the decline in R trees occurred earlier than in NR trees and coincided with early shoot growth and the increase in fruit abscission relative to the other treatments. In the second experiment, fruit abscission on upper branches of R trees increased relative to the other treatments but there was little difference in fruit abscission between treatments on lower branches.

Conclusions

This study is the first to demonstrate an increase in fruit abscission in an evergreen tree in response to pruning. The effect appeared to be related to competition for carbohydrates between post-pruning shoot growth and fruit development and was local, with shoot growth on pruned branches having no effect on fruit abscission on unpruned branches.  相似文献

Therefore, in the current study the influence of three rootstocks viz. ‘GF-677′, ‘Peshawar Local’ and ‘Swat Local’ were evaluated on the quality of ‘Flordaking’ peaches following cold storage during two consecutive years. The fruit from these rootstocks were kept at 0 °C for five weeks were studied for various fruit physical (weight loss, colour, firmness) and biochemical (pH, soluble solids content (SSC), titratable acidity (TA), SSC:TA ratio, fruit juice pH, sugars (total, reducing and non-reducing sugars), ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and free radicals scavenging activities) were evaluated. During both years, fruit harvested form trees grafted on ‘GF-677′ exhibited reduced fruit weight loss, changes in Chroma (C*) and highest fruit firmness, Lightness (L*), ascorbic acid contents and radical scavenging activities as compared to fruit harvested from tree grafted on other rootstocks. In conclusion, the post-harvest quality of scion ‘Flordaking’ peach fruit was significantly influenced and best quality can be obtained when it is grafted on ‘GF-677′ rootstock.  相似文献
