Changes are reported of Crataegus-Betula dune woodlands between 1950–1980 from Meijendel, a calcareous coastal dune system near the city of The Hague, The Netherlands, which is used as a water catchment area. It concerns both woodlands in degradation stage and, more common, woodlands on the increase. Changes were recorded with help of successive vegetation maps, air photos and permanent plot observations. Woodland increase usually occurs on places with groundwater at or near the surface, either because of natural circumstances or as a result of artificial groundwater recharge through infiltration as part of the water catchment activities. The management of both types of woodland is discussed.Nomenclature follows Heukels-van der Meijden (1983), Flora van Nederland, 20th ed. Wolters-Noordhoff, Groningen. Aspects of population dynamics in Halimione portulacoides communities   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Summary Studies on sample plots inHalimione portulacoides communities show that environmental disturbances, either natural or induced by man, start a sequence of partly overlapping density maxima inSuaeda maritima, Aster tripolium andPuccinellia maritima successively, before the originalHalimione community totally recovers. When succession time before recovering is long enough, there are tendencies in redundancy of this sequence stressing the unilinear character of the succession. Minor environmental impacts induce a longer time-lag period of theSuaeda density maximum, suggesting threshold values of these impacts for the species to maintain minimal population densities or to become locally extinct. This sequence of interim species starting after an environmental disturbance, suggests also a gradient character in various biological attributes, for instance in life-time, propagation, nutrient and genetic plasticity strategies. The mechanism described can therefore be interpreted as a complex of mostly well-adapted and well-integrated inherent species strategies capable of absorbing environmental shocks. It is suggested that in the salt-marsh ccosystem the pattern of spatial variation in densities and that of temporal variation in fluctuations of the three species populations under natural conditions reflect corresponding patterns of environmental disturbances in the vegetation taking into account a timelag associated with the magnitude of the impact concerned.Contribution to the Symposium on Plant species and plant communities held at Nijmegen, 11–12 November 1976, on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Professor Victor Westhoff.Nomenclature follows Heukels-van Ooststroom. 桉树人工林对生态环境的影响一直是全球性争议的热点问题,桉树与珍贵乡土树种混交的生态环境效应备受关注。为探究桉树混交营林措施对林地土壤养分及林下植物功能群的影响,该研究以桉树纯林(PE)、桉树×红锥混交林(MEC)和红锥纯林(PCH)为对象,开展了林下植物群落及环境因子的调查测定。研究结果显示:不同林分的土壤理化性质具有显著差异,混交林的土壤pH、有效氮(AN)和有效磷(AP)含量显著高于纯林;而土壤含水量(SMC)、有机碳(SOC)、总氮(TN)含量及C∶N和C∶P在混交林中没有显著优势,并呈现PEMEC>PCH的趋势。混交林显著增加林下木本植物功能群(WFG)的物种丰富度,而PCH显著增加蕨类植物功能群(FeFG)的物种丰富度。混交林的WFG和禾草植物功能群(GFG)的重要值均显著高于红锥纯林,而红锥纯林FeFG的重要值显著高于混交林。主坐标分析结果表明,MEC与PE的林下植物功能群组成差异不显著,但与PCH的差异显著;冗余分析结果揭示了AN和AP是WFG占优势的主要影响因子,SMC、TN...  相似文献

Summary Low alpine Betula nana heaths were studied with regard to plant communities, species distribution, and environmental conditions. It is clear from cluster analyses and PCA-ordinations that the distribution of winter snow is the most important factor for the composition of plant communities and the distribution of most plant populations. Under deep snow conditions soil instability is also important as a differentiating factor.The numerical treatment of data gives a phytosociological grouping in eoncordance with earlier opinions based on stand tabulations.The cluster analysis group the species into chionophobous, chionophilous, moderate snow bed species, and an additional group of wide snow depth amplitude. Only a few species remain unclassified. The ecological species groups are readily identified also in PCA-ordinations. Summary In 1970 chalk grasslands were studied in southern England, according to the principles of the French-Swiss School. The communities described belong to the associationCirsio-Brometum Shimwell 1971, emend., allianceMesobromion erecti (Br. Bl. & Moor 1938) Oberd. 1957, orderBrometalia W. Koch (1926 n.n.) Br.-Bl. 1936, of the classFestuco-Brometea Br.-Bl. 1936, emend. Tüx. 1961. Within theCirsio-Brometum three new sub-associations are distinguished: 1) subass. nov.anthoxanthetosum odorati; 2) subass. nov.Cornetosum sanguineae; and 3) subass. nov.campanuletosum rotundifoliae.Special attention is paid to the relationship that exists between the management of these communities and the seral stages that lead to the development of serub following the decreasing influence of grazing. Ulex europaeus scrub occurring on calcareous soil was also studied. The cryptogams of the chalk grasslands, mainly Musci, were investigated in detail.Plant nomenclature follows Heukels & van Ooststroom (1970) or for taxa not mentioned by these, Clapham et al. 陕南秦巴山区厚朴群落土壤肥力评价   总被引:6,自引:2,他引:6  
以秦巴山区7个厚朴群落为对象,分析土壤养分含量的变化规律,同时对各群落土壤肥力进行评价,以期为该区土壤肥力的提高和厚朴群落配置模式的筛选提供理论依据和实践指导。结果表明,秦巴山区厚朴群落间土壤养分含量差异显著;除全磷和全钾外,随土层深度的增加,土壤有机质、全氮、碱解氮、速效磷和速效钾含量逐渐减小。厚朴群落土壤肥力综合指数从大到小依次为:4a凹叶厚朴(1.054)2a凹叶厚朴(0.882)山茱萸-凹叶厚朴混交林(0.673)7a尖叶厚朴(-0.243)7a凹叶厚朴(-0.713)杜仲-凹叶厚朴(-0.812)11a凹叶厚朴(-0.840)。因此随着林龄的增大,厚朴群落土壤肥力有下降的趋势。结合厚朴群落土壤养分差异分析和厚朴群落土壤肥力评价结果,得出山茱萸-凹叶厚朴混交林的土壤肥力相对较好,为该区植被恢复的最佳营造模式。  相似文献

Plant communities can be affected both by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and hemiparasitic plants. However, little is known about the interactive effects of these two biotic factors on the productivity and diversity of plant communities. To address this question, we set up a greenhouse study in which different AMF inocula and a hemiparasitic plant (Rhinanthus minor) were added to experimental grassland communities in a fully factorial design. In addition, single plants of each species in the grassland community were grown with the same treatments to distinguish direct AMF effects from indirect effects via plant competition. We found that AMF changed plant community structure by influencing the plant species differently. At the community level, AMF decreased the productivity by 15–24%, depending on the particular AMF treatment, mainly because two dominant species, Holcus lanatus and Plantago lanceolata, showed a negative mycorrhizal dependency. Concomitantly, plant diversity increased due to AMF inoculation and was highest in the treatment with a combination of two commercial AM strains. AMF had a positive effect on growth of the hemiparasite, and thereby induced a negative impact of the hemiparasite on host plant biomass which was not found in non-inoculated communities. However, the hemiparasite did not increase plant diversity. Our results highlight the importance of interactions with soil microbes for plant community structure and that these indirect effects can vary among AMF treatments. We conclude that mutualistic interactions with AMF, but not antagonistic interactions with a root hemiparasite, promote plant diversity in this grassland community. The alliance Caricion bicolori-atrofuscae comprises plant communities of more or less wet calcareous fens on shallow peat with a high base saturation, occurring in arctic as well as alpine, more seldom subalpine areas. The characteristic species are presented and compared with those from communities of the Caricion lavallianae growing in lowland and mountain sites of temperate and boreal calcareous fens.An abbreviated ecological characteristic is given and the contact communities of the different community complexes are pointed out. The regional floristic differences within the communities are shown, and the geographical distribution and regional frequency of the differentiated associations are given. The synsystematic ranks of three central European mountain to alpine associations are discussed in detail (Caricetum frigidae, Juncetum alpini, Equiseto-Typhetum minimi). They should be excluded from this alliance.Generally, the alpine phytocoenoses are more often invaded by species from neighbouring communities, presumably as an effect of competition in sites less favouring fen development in comparison to the oro-arctic and arctic sites, especially those with an oceanic to suboceanic climate.We conclude, that the observed floristic differences are mainly caused by historical processes and not by the different ecology of the sites in question. This must be taken into consideration when discussing the synsystematic delimitation and rank of the corresponding communities.Nomenclature follows: Lid (1974), Nyholm (1954–68). Acknowledgement. The effect of herbivory and resource availability on the competitive ability of different plant species has been an area of intense debate amongst plant ecologists for at least two decades, but the interactive effects of herbivory and plant competition between woody and herbaceous plants are rarely studied and theory is poorly developed. This study used experimental manipulations on transplanted and naturally occurring mountain beech (Nothofagus solandri var. cliffortioides) seedlings to show the effects of deer browsing and competition from deer-induced, herbaceous turf communities on mountain beech regeneration in New Zealand. Differences in the species composition of these turfs had little effect on mountain beech seedling establishment, but turf removal increased seedling growth and survivorship, showing that competition with other plants had direct effects on mountain beech regeneration. Deer browsing reduced the establishment and growth of seedlings, but the size of this effect did not vary with light and nutrient availability. There was no immediate compositional response of turf communities following the removal of deer browsing. The addition of nutrients appeared to reduce the intensity of belowground competition (stem growth increased relative to root growth) and increase seedling mortality, but there was no effect of changing levels of light. These results showed simple and direct negative effects of deer browsing on mountain beech regeneration. Indirect negative effects on regeneration were caused by deer-induced turf communities. We found little evidence for interactive effects between herbivory, plant competition and the availability of light or nutrients on seedling regeneration, which suggests that these factors acted independently. Coastal barrens in Nova Scotia are heathlands characterised by short, predominantly ericaceous vegetation, sparse tree cover, exposed bedrock, pockets of Sphagnum bog, and stressful climatic conditions. Although coastal barrens are prominent in the physical and cultural landscape, they are largely unprotected. We selected six barrens along the Atlantic coast, and surveyed 20 1-m2 plots at each barren for vascular plants, macrolichens, mosses and environmental factors. We recorded 173 species (105 vascular, 41 macrolichen, 27 moss), including six provincially rare vascular species found predominantly in nearshore areas with high levels of substrate salt and nutrients, variable substrate depth, and short vegetation. Although vascular plant and moss richness were similarly correlated with vegetation height, substrate depth, organic matter content, and rock exposure, there were no clear correlations between vascular plant, macrolichen and moss richness across all sites. Vascular plant rarity and species richness were not correlated, but had inverse relationships with key environmental gradients. Tailoring conservation efforts to protect areas of high richness may thus mean that rare species are missed, and vice versa. Ordination and ANOSIM show that barrens vegetation differs widely among sites; therefore, protecting any singular coastal barren will not protect the entire range of vegetation communities and species in this heathland type. Conservation planning should emphasize protecting environmental gradients correlated with richness, rarity and plant community structure, including substrate depth and moisture, and vegetation height. Additionally, protected areas should include a coastal-inland gradient and a diversity of substrate types, including exposed rock and trees.  相似文献

除草剂在桉树人工林中的应用越来越普遍,但关于除草剂对桉树人工林林下植物和土壤微生物群落的影响知之甚少。通过桉树人工林低剂量高频率(LHF)、中剂量中频率(MMF)、高剂量低频率(HLF)除草剂喷施试验,并与人工除草(MT)为对照,比较分析不同剂量、不同频率除草剂施用对林下植物和土壤微生物群落的影响。结果表明,施用除草剂导致桉树人工林林下植物种类和功能群组成发生显著变化,但并未显著降低林下植物群落物种丰富度和多样性,随除草剂施用频率的降低及恢复时间的增加,物种丰富度及多样性指数呈恢复趋势。除草剂施用也导致土壤养分含量降低。除草剂通过对林下植物群落和土壤养分的负面影响间接影响土壤微生物群落。LHF显著降低藤本植物而显著提高蕨类植物功能群的重要值,从而显著降低了微生物群落、真菌和放线菌的磷脂脂肪酸(PLFA)含量。MMF显著降低木本和藤本植物而显著提高禾草植物功能群的重要值,导致土壤微生物群落和放线菌的PLFA含量显著降低。HLF未显著影响林下植物及土壤微生物群落,但土壤全磷含量显著降低,速效磷含量也大幅下降。施用除草剂显著降低了土壤微生物生物量碳、氮的含量。因此,生产上应减少除草剂的施用,以减少对林下植物和土壤微生物群落的负效应。  相似文献

This study examined the effects of the native cactus moth borer, Melitara prodenialis, and the invasive cactus moth borer, Cactoblastis cactorum, on two common cactus species, Opuntia stricta and O. humifusa at coastal and inland locations in central Florida. Opuntia stricta were present only at coastal sites and O. humifusa were present at coastal and inland sites. Throughout the duration of the study, coastal plants were subject to damage solely by C. cactorum and inland plants solely by M. prodenialis. Results showed marginally significantly higher numbers of eggsticks on O. stricta than O. humifusa and significantly higher numbers at coastal sites than at inland sites. There was also significantly higher moth damage on O. stricta than O. humifusa and at coastal sites than inland sites, but not significantly so. However, there was a higher level of plant mortality for O. humifusa than for O. stricta and a significantly higher level of cactus mortality at inland sites when compared to coastal sites. This increased mortality may be due to increased attack by true bugs, Chelinidea vittiger, and by Dactylopius sp., combined with attack by M. prodenialis. Inland plants also tended to be smaller than coastal plants and could be more susceptible to the combined effects of all insects. Further long-term research on coastal cactus survival when attacked and unattacked by Cactoblastis is necessary to fully determine the effects of this moth on Opuntia survival.  相似文献

An igapó forest near the confluence of Rio Tarumã Mirim (Tarumãzinho) and Rio Negro has been studied. It is a typical ectotroph forest with a raw humus layer and suppressed litter decomposing activity by Higher (i.e., carpophore-producing) Fungi. The number of the latter is about one-fifth of that observed in the (anectotrophic) terra firme forest. All ectotrophically mycorrhizal fungi observed belonged in three families:Amanitaceae, Boletaceae, Russulaceae. Leguminosae are dominant, and of theseAldina latifolia andSwartzia cf.polyphylla were demonstrably ectomycorrhizal. The scarcity of mineral nutrients in the soils of igapó, campinarana and campina is overcome by direct cycling through ectomycorrhizae. Summary The method of mapping the vegetation on scale 1: 200,000 and the starting points in relation to the potential natural vegetation and ecotopes, are discussed.In view of the planological background of this study, some restrictions have been added to the concept of potential natural vegetation, concerning the period of development and the human influence.The relationship between soil, ground water and vegetation was studied, which resulted in the map of the potential natural vegetation.Each type of potential natural vegetation stands for a series of vegetation types on the same site. Seven main series, with a number of sub-series are distinguished. Within each vegetation series the plant communities have been spread over five groups, according to their structure and naturalness.Ecotopes and ecotope complexes are considered as landscape ecological units. A list of ecotopes was obtained by interpreting topographical maps and by inventory data.The actual vegetation was mapped by estimating the size of the ecotopes within the separate areas. Differentiation in the size and number of seeds among populations or particular individuals of a given species may depend on genetic features and environmental conditions. The objective of our study was to answer two questions: whether any differences exist in the size and shape of utricles among Carex spicata populations growing in several plant communities and whether the hypothesized differences remain constant in ‘common garden’ conditions (i.e. if the sedges grown in different plant communities are evolving distinctly separate ecotypes). We studied utricle morphological traits (projected area, width, length, W/L ratio and projected perimeter) and number of utricles per spike collected from plants grown in five different plant communities (natural sites) and from plants transferred to common garden conditions. C. spicata utricles showed significant variability of morphological traits that depended on the plant community of origin. Among five plant communities, the largest utricles were found in Agropyron repens–Urtica dioica and Convolvulo arvensis–Agropyretum repentis communities, while the smallest ones were in plants from the Lolio-Plantaginetum community. The similarity of the analyzed populations regarding sedge utricle traits corresponded to the similarity of plant communities where the populations had grown. Moreover, the differences in utricle traits collected from natural conditions remained stable in common garden conditions. This indicated that differences in traits among utricles had a physiological dependence on different biotope conditions or different interspecific interactions prevailing in the particular plant communities. The relationship between the similarities in the diaspores of the populations studied and the similarities in the ecological conditions of the communities may also indicate that the variability of utricles is important for evolution and adaptation.The results support the hypothesis that C. spicata populations in different communities are producing separate ecotypes, i.e. specific species forms with genetically fixed traits adapted to narrowly determined habitat conditions.  相似文献

Low levels of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae were present in floating mats dominated by clones of Typha angustifolia L., T. x glauca Godr., and T. latifolia L. Floating mats composed of rhizomes (underwater-ground stems with high starch accumulation), roots, decaying organic matter, and wind deposited soil, easily supported human activities. The majority of roots isolated from the root cores were connected to Typha rhizomes. Tests employing the gridline intersect method, intensity, spore counts and most probable number (MPN) were used to define the level of colonization. Mycorrhizal colonization from the T. angustifolia and T. x glauca clones averaged 4 to 5%, while the T. latifolia clone averaged 13%. When colonization was encountered, intensities varied from a high of 3.0 to a low of 0.4 on a sclae of 0 to 4. Although arbuscules were not found, abundant hyphae, vesicles and spores indicated that presumed facultative associations occurred between the vesicular arbuscular fungi and the indicated that presumed facultative associations plant communities found on floating mats. The mycorrhizal fungi identified from these communities in cluded Glomus albidum Walker & Rhodes, G. caledonium (Nicol. & Gerd.) Trappe & Gerdemann, G. etunicatum Becker & Gerdemann, and G. microcarpum Tul. & Tul. Spore counts ranged from 16 to 76 spores per gram dried organic soil. The recolonization ability of VAM propagules by way of a most probable number bioassay with maize yielded numbers that ranged from zero to 96 propagules per gram soil, with G. etunicatum the only species recovered.  相似文献

生物入侵威胁本地物种生存,破坏生态系统的结构和功能,是导致全球生物多样性丧失的重要原因之一。外来植物是入侵生物中的重要一类,可以显著改变本地植被群落,并影响其他生物类群。鸟类作为生态系统中的较高营养级,对由入侵植物引起的栖息地变化十分敏感。互花米草自引入中国沿海以来,其分布区域不断扩散,多数研究认为互花米草入侵造成本地生物多样性降低和生态系统退化。系统梳理了互花米草入侵对鸟类栖息地、食物资源、繁殖、群落等方面的生态影响。主要负面影响有:(1)植被群落结构不利于鸟类栖息、筑巢、觅食;(2)鸟类食物资源丰度和多样性下降;(3)本地鸟类种群数量和物种多样性显著下降。在我国东部沿海湿地,互花米草入侵已经显著改变了植被与鸟类分布格局。但随着入侵历史的增长,少数小型雀形目鸟类却可以逐渐适应互花米草生境。互花米草入侵为某些非本地鸟类提供了空白生态位,在一定程度上丰富了本地物种多样性,对互花米草的快速清除反而可能不利于已适应并依赖互花米草生境的鸟类。综上,认为互花米草入侵对鸟类群落甚至整个生态系统的影响可能需要更多研究进行综合评价,应开展长期、大尺度、多因子的监测研究和多物种比较研究,建立生态评价模型并制定科学有效的互花米草管理对策。  相似文献
