Lipovitellin-phosvitin crystals from oocytes of the sturgeon (Acipenser boeri L.) and the tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus [Gray]) have been shown to he orthorhombic like all such known crystals from vertebrates higher than cyclostomes. Lattice parameters and projected crystal views also resembled closely the hitherto known cases. The high evolutionary conservation of this crystal structure probably reflects a cell-biological significance of the tertiary structure of crystal constituents, especially of the lipovitellines. A comparative consideration of crystallographic data from cyclostomes and higher vertebrates suggests that cyclostomes started with one species and all higher vertebrates with two species of lipovitellin molecules.  相似文献

AH23848 is a potent thromboxane A2-receptor blocker inhibiting platelet aggregation in vitro and in vivo. Oral administration to pregnant rats during days 7-16 of pregnancy, at doses of 0, 10, 45, or 200 mg/kg twice daily, resulted in dose-related maternal, embryonic, and fetal toxicity. The most notable observation was herniation of the diaphragm occurring in 1.5 and 100.0% of fetuses at the 45 and 200 mg/kg doses, respectively, when examined at term. A further study at 150 mg/kg twice daily during days 7-16, 7-11, or 12-16 of pregnancy revealed incidences of diaphragmatic hernia up to 42%. Herniation varied from small areas of eventration of membranous diaphragm to fetuses with apparent total absence of the diaphragm. The positions of the hernias in the diaphragm, following dosing over varying periods of organogenesis, reflected the chronology of diaphragm formation in the rat. The teratology of AH23848 was unrelated to its thromboxane A2-receptor blocker properties but was related to a chemical breakdown product, 4-biphenylmethanol. Some substituted biphenyl compounds appear to be specific teratogens in the rat, with their effects targeted at the developing diaphragm. A possible mechanism of herniation is the interference with muscularisation of the membranous diaphragm, resulting in weakness and perforation.  相似文献

Abstract Scanning electron microscopy of calcified walls in two species of the cyclostome bryozoan Hornera has revealed previously undescribed details of skeletal morphology and growth. The calcitic interior walls of both H. robusta MacGillivray and H. squamosa Hutton have a laminated structure. Walls are extended at distal growing edges where the formation of new crystallites is concentrated and wall fabric is nacreous or semi-nacreous. New crystallites are seeded on the surface of existing crystallites as six-sided rhombs. At the centres of the rhombs in H. robusta there are often three ‘spikes' which point towards alternate sides of the rhomb. Screw dislocations resulting in spiral overgrowths are also common at these distal wall edges. Wall thickening occurs further proximally where walls develop a regularly foliated structure of imbricated laths growing towards the colony base. Although often thought to be ubiquitous in cyclostomes, the division of walls into three layers (an inner, primary layer flanked on both sides by secondary layers) is absent in Hornera. Wall ultrastructure contrasts strongly with the lamellar–fibrous–lamellar structure recently described from cinctiporid cyclostomes. The c-axes of the crystallites are orientated perpendicular to the wall surface in Hornera, unlike cinctiporids in which they are orientated within the plane of the wall. Apparent similarities in ultrastructure suggest that Hornera may provide a good model for wall growth in extinct trepostome bryozoans.  相似文献

Cyclostomes are the only order of stenolaemate bryozoans living today. The non-feeding larvae of modern cyclostomes metamorphose on settlement to produce a calcified dome-shaped protoecium. Protoecial diameter provides a proxy for larval size. The sparse data available on living cyclostomes suggests that protoecial diameter is about one-and-a-half times greater than larval width. Here we use protoecial diameter to estimate larval sizes in fossil and Recent cyclostome species. A total of 233 protoecia were measured, 143 from Recent cyclostomes and 90 from fossil cyclostomes, of which 84 came from the Jurassic. Protoecial diameter ranged from 82.5 to 690 μm, with 89% of protoecia having diameters between 100 and 300 μm. A comparison of 30 Jurassic with 51 Recent taxa of tubuliporine cyclostomes showed a significant difference in size frequency. Although the Recent taxa have a larger size range (83–465 μm) than the Jurassic taxa (125–249 μm), Recent species have a lower mode (125–150 μm) than the Jurassic species (175–200 μm). Most Jurassic cyclostomes may therefore have had larger larvae than their extant relatives. Reduction in larval size may be a component of the previously hypothesized reduction in overall body size resulting from competitive displacement by cheilostome bryozoans.  相似文献

An unexpected new form of Bohemograptus with unusual morphological structure has been found in the upper part of the Bohemograptus praecornutus Biozone, Upper Ludlow of the Mielnik borehole, Poland. Bohemograptus papilio sp. nov. has the characteristic rhabdosome for Bohemograptus, in addition to extraordinary paired latero-dorsal additions, not comparable to any processes typical for Bohemograptus thecal openings. The new structure, a patagium, is located in the proximal part of the rhabdosome, and is built from main rods dividing repeatedly into thinner lists with significant remnants of membranes spread between them. Another new structure is the virgellarium, a membranous addition to the virgella. Membranes of the patagium and virgellarium are not built from microfusellar tissue as additions in other bohemograptids. It is suggested that the membranous additions were orientation devices, constructed to retard the sinking of the colony in the water column.  相似文献

The proteins STIM1 and Orai1 are the long sought components of the store-operated channels required in T-cell activation. However, little is known about the interaction of these proteins in T-cells after engagement of the T-cell receptor. We found that T-cell receptor engagement caused STIM1 and Orai1 to colocalize in puncta near the site of stimulation and accumulate in a dense structure on the opposite side of the T-cell. FRET measurements showed a close interaction between STIM1 and Orai1 both in the puncta and in the dense cap-like structure. The formation of cap-like structures did not entail rearrangement of the entire endoplasmic reticulum. Cap formation depended on TCR engagement and tyrosine phosphorylation, but not on channel activity or Ca(2+) influx. These caps were very dynamic in T-cells activated by contact with superantigen pulsed B-cells and could move from the distal pole to an existing or a newly forming immunological synapse. One function of this cap may be to provide preassembled Ca(2+) channel components to existing and newly forming immunological synapses.  相似文献

Scanning electron microscope and light microscope studies ofthe body wall in cyclostome stenolaemate ectoprocts show thatthis wall has a distinctive microarchitecture. The microstructuresconsist of a linear series of longitudinal canals in the centralregion. Adjoining regions on either side have laminae of overlappingcalcareous tablets. In some cyclostomes at certain stages ofgrowth, laminae may show a less orderly meshwork pattern nearthe canals. The laminate layers of calcareous tablets are enclosedin an organic matrix and are penetrated by tubuli which passfrom the inner part of the body wall to the canals and alsolink the canals. The canals with organic and mineralized matricesopen into pores in the body wall. This elaborate meshwork andcanal and pore system provide the framework for growth and resorptionof the body wall and facilitate transport of cellular materialsfrom one zooid to another in a colony. Calcification at thedistal part of a colony seems to proceed in a series of stagesaround sites of calcification. The pattern of the body wallof the cyclostome ectoproct does not parallel a molluscan patternof skeletal growth as previously proposed. The hypothesis ofa hypostegal coelom in some cyclostome ectoprocts is rejected.  相似文献

It has been widely accepted that cyclostomes are the most primitive vertebrates extant with the ability to produce antibodies. We isolated cDNA clones that encode a putative 'antibody' from one of the cyclostomes, Eptatretus burgeri. The amino acid sequence predicted from the nucleotide sequences of the cDNA clones indicated that this gene does actually encode the proteins isolated as hagfish 'antibodies' by various investigators. However, these proteins are not similar to mammalian immunoglobulins but have some characteristics common to complements C3, C4 and C5 in higher vertebrates. We discuss the relationships of the isolated gene for hagfish complement with the mammalian genes for complements C3, C4 and C5. We also discuss the possibility of the presence of antibodies in cyclostomes.  相似文献

The phylogenetic position of cyclostomes, i.e., the relationships between hagfishes, lampreys, and jawed vertebrates is an unresolved problem. Anatomical data support the paraphyly of cyclostomes, whereas nuclear genes data support monophyly of cyclostomes. Previous results obtained using mitochondrial DNA are ambiguous, presumably due to a lack of informative sequences. By adding the complete mtDNA of a hagfish, Eptatretus burgeri, we have generated a novel data set for sequences of hagfishes and of lampreys. The addition of this mtDNA sequence to the 12 taxa we have already used becomes sufficient to obtain unambiguous results. This data set, which includes sequences of mtDNA of animals closely related to the lamprey/hagfish node, was used in a phylogenetic analysis with two independent statistical approaches and unequivocally supported the monophyly of cyclostomes. Thus molecular data, i.e., our results and those obtained using nuclear genes, conclude that hagfishes and lampreys form a clade.  相似文献

本文采用光学显微镜和扫描电子显微镜技术及荧光染色技术,对苍耳柄锈菌三裂叶豚草专化型Puccinia xanthii sp.ambrosiae-trifidae冬孢子的萌发过程和萌发条件进行了研究。结果表明:冬孢子堆成熟时突破寄主表皮外露;在寄主上冬孢子萌发时由上细胞顶部出现皱褶和帽状物,由帽状物下伸出担子。冬孢子的上细胞和下细胞都可萌发;冬孢子在水中于25℃2h即可萌发,24h后达到萌发高峰,萌发率为12%;温度20-25℃、相对湿度97%以上、pH5-7的条件利于冬孢子萌发,光照对冬孢子萌发没有影响,木糖和乳糖对冬孢子萌发有促进作用;无机氮源营养对冬孢子萌发有抑制作用。肌醇、烟酸、核黄素及三裂叶豚草叶汁对冬孢子萌发有促进作用。  相似文献

The pore through which a Paramecium contractile vacuole communicates with the external environment is a 1.2 μm long and 1 μm diameter cylindrical orifice in the pellicle. During diastole, the vacuole:pore junction is closed by a substantial diaphragm which parts to the side at systole. The diaphragm is composed of inner and outer membranes continuous with the vacuole and pore membranes, respectively, and an intervening cytoplasmic layer containing filaments and irregular membranous tubules and vesicles. Microtubules, organized into 2 sets, are an important component of the pore apparatus. One set of ~ 16 microtubules forms an annulus around the pore. These microtubules are organized into a right-handed helix with a pitch of 0.5-0.6 μm, and thus complete slightly more than 2 turns in their course from the level of the diaphragm to the pore outer lip. They appear to be embedded in a layer of dense material immediately adjacent to the pore membrane. The other set consists of 5 or more bands of 10–20 microtubules which radiate in a slight left-handed helix from an insertion at the pore out over the vacuole surface to the ampullae.  相似文献

Stigmatella aurantiaca is a gram-negative bacterium with a complex life cycle, including cellular aggregation resulting in the formation of a characteristic three-dimensional structure, the so-called fruiting body. During fruiting and upon chemical induction of sporulation, a major development-specific protein, SP21, is synthesized. SP21 was purified to homogeneity from the membranous fraction of chemically induced spores. Expression of SP21 was studied with an antiserum raised against the purified protein.  相似文献

From a study of the perforations in the heterostracan carapace and the impressions on the inner surface of the bony plates it is suggested that the Heterostraci in most features belonged to a structural stage from which it was possible to derive both the gnathostomes and the cyclostomes (including the cephalaspids and anaspids).
However, the structure of the gills and the presence of a spiracle in the Heterostraci indicate that they were more closely related to the gnathostome stock.  相似文献

Summary The nest structure and colony cycle of a population of Allegheny mound ants,Formica exsectoides, were examined in central Michigan. The dispersion pattern of mounds was random. Nest structure and presence of brood were primarily determined by excavation of twenty-three nests over three intervals from June through September. Additional excavations of five nests in 1990 and ten nests in 1991 provided further details on nest structure and colony cycle. Most galleries occurred within the mound and upper 30 cm of soil, but some activity reached depths of 100 to 270 cm. Depth of nests showed little correlation with external measurements of height and diameter. Immature stages were recovered from two strata: the upper 20 cm of nest and mound and the lowest nest depths. Alate sexual forms were found in or near the mound in July, and numerous dealate queens were collected in September from peripheral galleries near the soil surface.  相似文献

A method was developed for the reassembly of membranous vesicle from the sodium dcoxycholate-dissociated outer membrane components of Escherichia coli. The removal of the detergent by dialysis and the presence of Mg2+ were essential for the reassembly.Membrane protein alone did not form any membranous structure. Closed membranous vesicles similar to the native outer membrane were reassembled only when protein was mixed with both lipopolysaccharide and phospholipid in deoxycholate solution and subsequently dialyzed. The membrane showed a distinct trilaminar structure with a center-to-center distance between two dark lines of 53 Å, which is a characteristic of the native outer membrane. This characteristic trilaminar structure was shown to be due to the presence of lipopolysaccharide. Phospholipd was required for the vesicularization of membrane. Lipopolysaccharide and/or phospholipid formed a membranous structure in the absence of protein, while the morphology of their negatively stained sample was quite different from that of the native outer membrane unless the outer membrane protein was added to the reassembly mixture.The protein from the cytoplasmic membrane was unable to reform membranous vesicle with lipopolysaccharide and phospholipid, indicating that the reassembly system discriminated outer membrane proteins from cytoplasmic membrane proteins.  相似文献

Larval type in extinct organisms might be recognizable because larvae of living marine invertebrates are approximately of the same size as the initial post‐larval organism. Two larval types typically occur. Planktotrophic larvae feed on other members of the plankton, potentially prolonging their larval existence and producing broad geographic distributions. Conversely, lecithotrophic larvae feed on yolk supplied by the fertilized egg, often settle quickly after release, and display more restricted distributions. However, some lecithotrophic bryozoans undergo embryonic fission forming multiple, small, polyembryonic larvae. The relationship between post‐larval size and larval type was evaluated in bryozoans by comparing the size of the ancestrula, the founding individual of a colony, to the sizes of extant planktotrophic, lecithotrophic and polyembryonic lecithotrophic larvae and ancestrulae. The sizes of larvae and ancestrulae in extant lecithotrophic and planktotrophic cheilostome (gymnolaemate) species are statistically the same. They are, however, statistically larger than the polyembryonic larvae of extant cyclostomes (stenolaemates). In turn, the sizes of cyclostome larvae are indistinguishable from the ancestrulae of extant and fossil cyclostomes, the ancestrulae of other fossil stenolaemate species measured from the literature, and the ancestrulae of three of four genera from North American Cincinnatian strata. Ancestrulae of a fourth genus, Dekayia, are the same size as cyclostome ancestrulae but are statistically smaller than the ancestrulae of other stenolaemates. With few exceptions, stenolaemates have statistically smaller larvae and ancestrulae than both lecithotrophic and planktotrophic cheilostomes. We infer that the sizes of fossil ancestrulae permit the discrimination of taxa that had polyembryonic lecithotrophic larvae from those possessing other larval types. This inference is strengthened, in several cases, by the co‐occurrence of brood chambers (gynozooecia) and restricted palaeobiogeographic distributions. The presence of cyclostomes in Early Ordovician strata suggests that polyembryony may have been acquired during the initial radiation of Class Stenolaemata. Polyembryony appears to be a monophyletic trait, but confirmation requires the demonstration that species of several stenolaemate suborders lacking skeletally expressed brood chambers possessed polyembryonic larvae. □Ancestrulae, evolution, fossil bryozoans, gynozooecia, larvae.  相似文献

球形棕囊藻(Phaeocystis globosa)是中国近海海区常见有害藻华原因种, 其异型生活史中包含单细胞和球形囊体两种形态。游离单细胞直径一般为几微米, 囊体最大直径可达3 cm, 巨大的体积可能导致囊体具有特殊的结构和细胞分布。以球形棕囊藻汕头株为研究对象, 测定了囊体直径、囊体细胞丰度和游离单细胞丰度, 并探讨球形棕囊藻囊体形态与细胞分布的关系。研究结果表明, 囊体形态在其异型生活史中占优势, 囊体对生物量的贡献介于38%–95%之间, 在对数生长期的后期和稳定期, 囊体细胞与单细胞相比占绝对优势。囊体细胞数量与囊体直径的对数呈线性相关, 回归线斜率为1.34, 该值显著低于世界海区其它球形棕囊藻株系的研究结果, 表明汕头株单位囊体表面上分布的细胞数更少。中国海区的球形棕囊藻囊体结构和细胞分布与其它株系不同, 在爆发球形棕囊藻的海区, 巨大的囊体能够有效地抵御摄食, 可能对区域海洋食物链结构和功能有重要影响。  相似文献

Extant vertebrates are divided into the two major groups, cyclostomes and gnathostomes (jawed vertebrates). The former includes jawless fishes, hagfishes and lampreys, and the latter includes all extant jawed vertebrates. In many research fields, the phenotypic traits of the cyclostomes have been considered crucial in understanding the evolutionary process from invertebrates to vertebrates. Recent studies have suggested that the common ancestor of the extant vertebrates including hagfishes and lampreys underwent two-round of whole genome duplications, and thus the genome expansion solely does not account for phenotypic differences between cyclostomes and gnathostomes. Emerging evidence from molecular phylogeny of individual gene families indicates that the gene repertoire expanded at the common ancestor of vertebrates were later reshaped asymmetrically between the two lineages, resulting in the retention of differential gene sets. This also confuses interpretation of conserved synteny which often serves as indicator of orthology and the ploidy level. In this review, current controversy and future perspectives of cyclostome genomics are discussed with reference to evolutionary developmental biology.  相似文献

Preparations of lipid-containing and lipid-depleted cytochrome oxidase from beef heart mitochondria through use of Triton non-ionic detergents is described. The lipid-containing oxidase is shown to form either a membranous or dispersed state. The dispersed state requires the presence of salt whereas the membranous condition is obtained by reducing the ionic strength. The membranous form shows low activity in comparison to the dispersed form. Typical unit membrane structure can be shown in sections of the membranous oxidase or in reaggregated membranous oxidase even though the lipid content is as low as eight percent. Both the dispersed and membranous oxidase show 50-Å globules by negative staining whereas the lipid-free oxidase shows strings of 20 Å diameter.  相似文献

Single physiological doses of epinephrine did not affect the blood sugar level of human volunteers though they caused a marked tachycardia that was accompanied by a strong transient sensation, typically described as fullness in the chest. Epinephrine did not cause the release of norepinephrine and/or dopamine in man, in contrast to three other vertebrates (lamprey, eel, and rat). In the human, as in the rat and cyclostomes, the glycemic effect of epinephrine occurs only during stress and/or unphysiological conditions, while the chronotropic effects are probably physiological from cyclostomes to man.  相似文献
