Eurytemora affinis, a calanoid copepod, has been encountered in Volkerak-Zoommeer (Rhine delta region, S.W. Netherlands) both before this lake system was isolated in 1987 from the estuarine influence, and after. It was the main particle-feeding crustacean at all the 3 sampling stations in March–April 1990 when it reached densities of up to 215 ind.l–1. Its decline from mid April onwards, and low densities through summer, coincided with increase in cladocerans, especiallyDaphnia spp. (D. pulex andD. galeata), a decrease in seston (<33m) and chlorophyll concentrations and in primary production rates. The clearance rates (CR) ofEurytemora measured in the spring period varied enormously (0.6–24 ml.ind–1.d–1) depending mainly on size (0.44–1.06 mm), food concentration (0.8–2.2 mg C.l–1), and the water temperature which varied only narrowly (8.0–9.0°C). Mean ingestion rates of the animals measuring 0.68±0.02 mm during the study was 6.7±3.2 gC.ind–1.d–1; and assimilation efficiency varied between 27 and 53% (mean: 41±9%). The weight specific CR (SCR) varied between 0.96 and 6.4 litre.mg–1 body C.d–1. Pooled regression of SCR on the animal's body weight at the 3 study stations revealed a significant inverse relationship. Also daily ration and specific assimilation ofE. affinis varied greatly and inversely with the body weight. This calanoid contributed from about 50 to 100% to the zooplankton community grazing rates and assimilation rates, the former often exceeding the phytoplankton primary production.  相似文献

Miniature heat balance-sap flow gauges were used to measure water flows in small-diameter roots (3–4 mm) in the undisturbed soil of a mature beech–oak–spruce mixed stand. By relating sap flow to the surface area of all branch fine roots distal to the gauge, we were able to calculate real time water uptake rates per root surface area (Js) for individual fine root systems of 0.5–1.0 m in length. Study aims were (i) to quantify root water uptake of mature trees under field conditions with respect to average rates, and diurnal and seasonal changes of Js, and (ii) to investigate the relationship between uptake and soil moisture θ, atmospheric saturation deficit D, and radiation I. On most days, water uptake followed the diurnal course of D with a mid-day peak and low night flow. Neighbouring roots of the same species differed up to 10-fold in their daily totals of Js (<100–2000 g m−2 d−1) indicating a large spatial heterogeneity in uptake. Beech, oak and spruce roots revealed different seasonal patterns of water uptake although they were extracting water from the same soil volume. Multiple regression analyses on the influence of D, I and θ on root water uptake showed that D was the single most influential environmental factor in beech and oak (variable selection in 77% and 79% of the investigated roots), whereas D was less important in spruce roots (50% variable selection). A comparison of root water uptake with synchronous leaf transpiration (porometer data) indicated that average water fluxes per surface area in the beech and oak trees were about 2.5 and 5.5 times smaller on the uptake side (roots) than on the loss side (leaves) given that all branch roots <2 mm were equally participating in uptake. Beech fine roots showed maximal uptake rates on mid-summer days in the range of 48–205 g m−2 h−1 (i.e. 0.7–3.2 mmol m−2 s−1), oak of 12–160 g m−2 h−1 (0.2–2.5 mmol m−2 s−1). Maximal transpiration rates ranged from 3 to 5 and from 5 to 6 mmol m−2 s−1 for sun canopy leaves of beech and oak, respectively. We conclude that instantaneous rates of root water uptake in beech, oak and spruce trees are above all controlled by atmospheric factors. The effects of different root conductivities, soil moisture, and soil hydraulic properties become increasingly important if time spans longer than a week are considered.  相似文献

Summary Daily intramuscular injection of cortisol (4 mg kg–1 body weight) in rainbow trout,Salmo gairdneri, for 10 days caused significant increases in the number and individual apical surface area of gill chloride cells per mm2 of filament epithelium. Concomitantly, whole body influxes of sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl) increased. Acute (3 h) intra-arterial infusion of cortisol did not affect whole body Na+ or Cl influx. A significant correlation was observed between both Na+ and Cl influxes and the fractional apical surface area of filament chloride cells in control, sham (saline-injected) and experimental (cortisol-injected) fish. The chloride cells displayed similar ultrastructural modifications in trout undergoing cortisol treatment as in trout transferred to ion-deficient water. These findings suggest the existence of structure/function relationships in which branchial chloride cell morphology is an important determinant of Na+ and Cl transport capacity. We conclude that chronic cortisol treatment enhances whole body Na+ and Cl influxes by promoting proliferation of branchial chloride cells. The results of correlation analysis indicate that the chloride cell is an important site of NaCl uptake in freshwater rainbow trout.  相似文献

An efficient system for the in vitro plant and shootregeneration of Lilium longiflorum was developed andaccomplished using transverse thin cell layers (tTCL) of young stems.tTCLs were cut transversely along young stems from which the shoot-tipshad been removed. Sections were measured accurately using a graded gridand were cut in 4 mm × 4 mm × 1 mm cubes, eliminatingepidermal tissue, and were cultured on one-half MS medium containing 8 gl–1 agar, different sucrose concentrations (10, 20, 30 or 40g l–1), and with or without 1 mg l–1 activatedcharcoal (AC). Plants formed on the surface of tTCLs within 60 days onone-half MS medium containing 8 g l–1 agar and 20 gl–1 sucrose. Sections of 1 mm taken just below the apicalarea developed buds within 15 days, whereas the sections closer to thebase required about 45 days. Shoot regeneration was enhanced whensucrose concentration was used at 30 or 40 g l–1 after 60days of culture. No root formation occurred. Both shooting and rootingoccurred when sucrose was used at 20 g l–1. The plantletswere transferred to soil and grew well under greenhouseconditions.  相似文献

The density, biomass and shoot morphology of two populations of Zostera noltii were monitored from January 1998 to July 1999 at two shallow Mediterranean lagoons of Biguglia and Urbino, which differ in hydro-morphological conditions and nutrient loading. Monitoring included the principal biological and foliar parameters (shoot density, aboveground and belowground biomass, length, width and number of leaves, LAI and coefficient A: percentage of leaves having lost their apex), the organic matter contents of the sediment and the environmental conditions (salinity, turbidity, temperature, nutrient concentrations and dissolved oxygen levels). The two populations of Z. noltii displayed seasonal changes in density (1600–19600 m2), aboveground biomass (11–153 g. DW. m−2), leaf length (33–255 mm), and leaf width (0.9–1.8 mm). Temperature and turbidity were significant environmental factors influencing the temporal changes observed in the Z. noltii meadows studied. Conversely, the belowground biomass, the number of leaves per shoot and the LAI did not undergo any seasonal changes. In the Biguglia lagoon, the functioning dynamics of the Z. noltii seagrass beds are determined by the catchment area and the inputs of nutrients derived from it, whereas in the Urbino lagoon the dynamics of the Z. noltiibeds depend on low levels of water turbidity.  相似文献

Direct observations show that almost all (97%) Polyarthra remata caught in the inhalant current of Daphnia pulex avoid inhalation by initiating escape responses. Microvideographic analysis shows that these responses are initiated, on average, 0.24 mm (about 2.5 body lengths) from the inhalant opening of the branchial chamber, when the Polyarthra are moving at a velocity of about 1.4 mm s–1 (about 6 times their normal swimming speed — 0.24 mm s–1). The stimulus for the escape response could be rapid acceleration or, more likely, shear. The average distance traveled during an escape response is at least 1.25 mm (about 12 body lengths). The Polyarthra escape response can provide a very effective defense against interference from Daphnia and may greatly increase the ability of Polyarthra spp. to coexist with Daphnia.  相似文献

Tissue culture techniques were applied to study the regeneration and growth of bulblets from bulb scale segments ofCrinum macowanii Bak. (bush- or march lily)in vitro. Shoots were induced on twin scales taken from the basal plate region of flowering-size bulbs on Murashige and Skoog (MS)-medium containing 0–20 mg l–1 NAA and BA and a modified MS medium (MMS medium) containing 1.25 mg l–1 ancymidol (A-RestTM), 0.1 mg l–1 NAA and 0.1 mg l–1 kinetin (ANK). Large bulblets could only be initiated on the latter. Subsequently the bulblets of 5 mm or more in diameter were trimmed and split in half, and secondary plantlets were regenerated on MMS-medium containing ANK or MS-medium without any growth regulators which in turn grew into bulblets suitable for splitting within 12–16 weeks. A total of 700–1000 bulblets could be obtained from each initial bulb within 12 months. Anatomical studies showed that the shoots were initiated from the epidermis and hypodermis on the abaxial surface of the meristematic tissue of the basal plate of the bulb scale. This technique is useful for the multiplication and preservation of a genotype, since plantlets regenerated in this manner should be genetically uniform.  相似文献

Summary The thermobiology of a cicada, Magicicada tredecem, from a warm, high humidity environment was investigated. Thoracic temperature (Tth) of M. tredecem in the field was strongly dependent on, and consistently higher than, ambient temperature (Tam), averaging 33.0±0.19°C on warm sunny days (Tam=28–29°C, rh=60–75%). Laboratory studies documented cuticle water fluxes high enough ( 5mg · cm–2 · h–1 in dry air at 40°C) to result in a significant degree of passive evaporative cooling, but the ability of M. tredecem to actively facilitate evaporative water loss during thermal stress is comparatively limited: water loss rates (WLR) of live M. tredecem at 40°C (dry air) were only 35–45% greater than those of dead cicadas. The limited ability of M. tredecem to facilitate transcuticular WLR is associated with limited surface distribution of the cuticular ducts through which water is actively extruded during evaporative cooling. In the laboratory, active extrusion of water had no appreciable effect on Tth, demonstrating that evaporative cooling was due largely to passive water flux through the highly permeable cuticle. The location of the abdominal pore tracts is such that extrusion of water through the ducts may preferentially cool the heart and perhaps other abdominal tissues. Long-term climatological data indicate that M. tredecem rarely encounters Tam levels high enough (i.e., above its apparent Tth setpoint of 34–35°C) to require evaporative cooling. Inactive M. tredecem can endothermically increase Tth. An hypothesis is proposed to account for the diversity of body temperature setpoints in cicadas.Abbreviations rh relative humidity - SOT standard operating temperature - T am ambient temperature - T b body temperature - T sp body temperature setpoint - T th thoracic temperature - TWF transcuticular water flux - WLR water loss rate  相似文献

During four cruises in continental shelf waters of the northern Gulf of Mexico in the winters of 1981–83, we performed quantitative studies on the grazing of the copepods Acartia tonsa, Centropages velificatus, and Eucalanus pileatus, on phytoplankton using natural particulate assemblages as food. Stations were in, or adjacent to the plume of the Mississippi River, thereby providing wide spectra of phytoplankton and suspended riverine particulate concentrations. Phytoplankton cell volume was converted to carbon, and this, coupled with carbon content measurements of these three copepod species, allowed comparisons of daily ingestion effort even though the copepods were of different sizes. Data were expressed in the same units (% of copepod body carbon ingested copepod –1 d–1) for each species. Over similar ranges of phytoplankton carbon concentrations (0.21–92.06 gCl–1), Acartia tonsa had higher carbon-specific ingestion rates (x = 22.31%, range = 0.08–152.37%) than C. velificatus (x = 2.8%, range = 0.00–31.09 %) or E. pileatus (x = 1.27%, range = 0.10–2.80%). Carbon-specific ingestion rates increased with increasing phytoplankton carbon concentration for A. tonsa (R2 = 0.81) and there was no evidence of saturated feeding on the carbon concentrations offered. A similar, but weaker trend was evident for E. pileatus (R2 = 0.71), but not C. velificatus (R2 = 0.49). Over a wide range of suspended particulate concentrations (10.6–95.2 mg l–1), there was no systematic effect of particulates on carbon-specific ingestion rate for any of the three copepod species. However, A. tonsa appeared more adept at grazing in highly turbid water than C. velificatus or E. pileatus.  相似文献

The suspension feeding of Bithynia tentaculata was tested in laboratory experiments. The animals were fed in 1-1 aerated glass beakers, and filtration rates were calculated from changes in cell concentrations during the 6-h experiment. Temperature influenced the filtering rate, with minimum values of 5ml · ind–1 · h–1 at 5° C and maxima of 17.2 ml · ind–1 · h–1 at 18° C. Three food species of different size, motility and cell surface characteristics (Chlamydomonas reinhardii, Chlorella vulgaris and Chlorogonium elongatum) did not affect filtration rates. Suspension feeding increased with increasing food concentrations up to 12 nl · ml–1, above which feeding rate was kept constant by lowering the filtering rates. Even the smallest animals tested (<4 mm body length) were found to be feeding on suspended food at a rate of 2.7 ml · ind–1 · h–1, and increasing rates up to 8.4 ml were found in the 6–7 mm size class. All size classes of Bithynia showed a circannual fluctuation of their filtration rates. The ecological consequences of Bithynia's ability to switch between two feeding modes, grazing and suspension feeding, are discussed.  相似文献

A detailed kinetic study was carried out to investigate the porcine pancreatic lipase-catalysed esterification reactions of p-cresol–acetic acid and lactic acid–stearic acid. The kinetic data were in agreement with a Ping Pong Bi–Bi mechanism being followed by the enzyme, where inhibition is indicated in the presence of p-cresol and lactic acid in the respective reactions. Mathematical analyses of experimentally observed initial rates yielded various kinetic parameters, K m(p-cresol) = 0.1, K m(acetic acid) = 0.54, K m(lactic acid) = 0.059 M, K m(stearic acid) = 0.04 M, V max(p-cresol–acetic acid) = 13.2(h–1), V max(lactic acid–stearic acid) = 0.00163 M/h, K i(p-cresol) = 0.59 and K i(lactic acid) = 0.079 M. The K m and K i values of p-cresol and lactic acid observed in the respective reactions showed both the competitive nature of binding between the substrates p-cresol and acetic acid on the one hand and lactic acid and stearic acid on the other and the inhibitory nature of p-cresol and lactic acid.  相似文献

Changes in blood-gas, acid–base, and plasma-ion status were investigated in the bimodally respiring turtle, Rheodytes leukops, during prolonged dives of up to 12 h. Given that R. leukops routinely submerges for several hours, the objective of this study was to determine whether voluntarily diving turtles remain aerobic and simultaneously avoid hypercapnic conditions over increasing dive lengths. Blood PO2, PCO2, and pH, as well as plasma concentrations of lactate, glucose, Na+, K+, Cl, total Ca, and total Mg were determined in venous blood collected from the occipital sinus. Blood PO2 declined significantly with dive length; however, oxy-haemoglobin saturation remained greater than 30% for all R. leukops sampled. No changes were observed in blood PCO2, pH, [HCO3], or plasma glucose, with increasing dive length. Despite repeated dives lasting more than 2 h, plasma lactate remained less than 3 mmol l–1 for all R. leukops sampled, indicating the absence of anaerobiosis. Compensatory acid–base adjustments associated with anaerobiosis (e.g. declining [Cl], increasing total [Ca] and [Mg]) were likewise absent, with plasma-ion concentrations remaining stable with increasing dive length. Results indicate that R. leukops utilises aquatic respiration to remain aerobic during prolonged dives, thus effectively avoiding the development of a metabolic and respiratory acidosis.  相似文献

The feasibility of combined phytoextraction and in situ washing of soil contaminated with Pb (1750 mg kg–1), Zn (1300 mg kg–1), and Cd (7.2 mg kg–1), induced by the addition of biodegradable chelator, [S,S] stereoisomere of ethylenediamine discuccinate ([S,S]-EDDS), was tested in soil columns with hemp (Cannabis sativa) as the phytoextracting plant. The addition of [S,S]-EDDS (10 mmol kg–1 dry soil) yielded concentrations of 1026±442, 330.3±114.7 and 3.84±1.55 mg kg–1 of Pb, Zn and Cd in the dry above-ground plant biomass, respectively. These concentrations were 1926, 7.5, and 11 times higher, respectively, compared to treatments with no chelator addition. Horizontal permeable barriers, composed of a 3 cm high layer of nutrient enriched sawdust and vermiculite mixture, and a 3 cm layer of soil, vermiculite and apatite mixture, were positioned 20, 30 and 40 cm deep in the soil. In chelator treatments, barriers placed 30 cm deep reduced leaching of Pb, Zn and Cd by 435, 4 and 53 times, respectively, compared to columns with no barrier, where 3.0, 4.3 and 3.3% of total initial Pb, Zn and Cd, respectively, was leached during 6-weeks water irrigation after chelator addition. Lower positioned barriers were almost equally effective in preventing leaching of Pb than barriers positioned closer to the soil surface, less effective for Cd, and did not prevent leaching of Zn. 2.53% of total initial Pb and 2.83% of Cd was washed from the contaminated soil and accumulated into the barrier. Combined method was less effective than simulated ex situ soil washing, where 14.2, 5.5 and 24.5% of Pb, Zn and Cd, respectively, were removed after 1-h extraction, but comparable effective to 48-h extraction. The production of aboveground tissue of three alder species (Alnus crispa (Ait.) Pursh,A. rugosa (Du Roi) Spreng. andA. glutinosa (L) Gaertn.) on four sites ranged from 0.4 t ha–1 yr–1 to 4.0 t ha–1 yr–1 after four growing seasons. Large differences were observed among the four sites studied and among species. Soil nutrient levels affected the biomass production and foliar symptoms of P and Mg deficiency occurred withA. crispa andA. rugosa. Because of their poor aboveground biomass production (0.4–1.4 t ha–1 yr–1),A. crispa andA. rugosa should be used mainly as nurse trees. For its higher potential for biomass production (up to 4.0 t ha–1 yr–1), and its apparent higher ability to use P and Mg on deficient sites,A. glutinosa should be used preferably toA. crispa andA. rugosa for the production of biomass.  相似文献

The mysid shrimp Neomysis integer is a common invertebrate predator in brackish waters of Western Europe and is thought to play a central role in the food web owing to its predation on zooplankton. Neomysis distribution and abundance were investigated for 3 years in brackish, shallow and hypertrophic Lake Ferring (surface area: 3.2 km2, mean depth: 1.4 m, salinity: 3–6, total P: 0.29–0.78 mg P l-1, Secchi depth: 0.14–0.22 m). Mean summer abundance of Neomysis varied from 53 to 882 ind. m-2. Neomysis density within the lake was relatively uniform and not related to sediment type, but increased with increasing depth. The high abundance of Neomysis is considered to reflect a fish stock almost completely dominated by small-sized fish species (mainly three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus). Three-spined stickleback density was high and catch per unit effort ranged between 30 and 80 per gill net. Stomach analyses showed that the sticklebacks preyed on Neomysis, but preferred specimens smaller than 3–4 mm, and only occasionally consumed those larger than 5–7 mm. In summer, between 33 and 67% of the Neomysis ingested by sticklebacks were smaller than 3 mm, while in the lake as a whole, only 5–14% were smaller than 3 mm. The periods when Neomysis is vulnerable to stickleback predation are restricted to a few weeks in late May and late July, when the new generations emerge. Sticklebacks therefore have a limited capacity for controlling large Neomysis, including gravid females.  相似文献

Two arthropod trace fossils are described and analysed from the Carboniferous Lower Westphalian (C. communis and basal A. modiolaris chronozones) coal-bearing strata of Lancashire. The biserial trackway Diplichnites triassicus consists of five overlapping en echelon sets of 7–9 tracks preserved as epichnia and hypichnia in lacustrine siltstones. The trackway suggests subaqueous in-phase walking by a multi-segmented producer with a body length of 35–40 mm, width 17–22 mm, and 7–9 appendages. Curved, clustered, or laterally repeated, hypichnial lobes with transverse striations on the base of ripple cross-laminated sandstone are identified as Rusophycus versans. This trace fossil is interpreted as shallow resting or furrowing burrows of a homopodous arthropod, 30–60 mm long, 15–30 mm wide, and probably the same kind of arthropod as produced D. triassicus.A review of contemporary arthropod body fossils from Lagerstätten in Lancashire favours the onisciform, or Arthropleura like arthropod Camptophyllia as a potential producer of both of these trace fossils in a lacustrine palaeoenvironment. This study integrates the analysis of sediments, trace fossils and body fossils for reconstructing the arthropod biota and ecology in Westphalian lacustrine and crevasse splay fluvial palaeoenvironments.  相似文献

Estivating reed frogs of the superspecies Hyperolius viridiflavus are extraordinarily resistant to the highly adverse climatic conditions prevailing in their African savanna habitats during dry season (air temperature up to 45°C, solar radiation load up to 1000 W·m-2, no water replenishment possible for up to 3 months). They are able to withstand such climatic stress at their exposed estivation sites on dry plants without evaporative cooling. We developed a heat budget model to understand the mechanisms of how an anuran can achieve this unique tolerance, and which allows us to predict the anuran's core and surface temperature for a given set of environmental parameters, to within 4% of the measured values. The model makes it possible to quantify some of the adaptive mechanisms for survival in semiarid habitats by comparing H. viridiflavus with anurans (H. tuberilinguis and Rana pipiens) of less stressful habitats. To minimize heat gain and maximize heat loss from the frog, the following points were important with regard to avoiding lethal heat stress during estivation: 1) solar heat load is reduced by an extraordinarily high skin reflectivity for solar radiation of up to 0.65 under laboratory and even higher in the field under dry season conditions. 2) The half-cylindrical body shape of H. viridiflavus seems to be optimized for estivation compared to the hemispheroidal shape usually found for anurans in moist habitats. A half-cylinder can be positioned relative to the sun so that large surface areas for conductive and convective heat loss are shielded by a small area exposed to direct solar radiation. 3) Another important contribution of body shape is a high body surface area to body mass ratio, as found in the estivating subadult H. viridiflavus (snout-vent lengths of 14–20 mm and body weights of 350–750 mg) compared to adult frogs (24–30 mm, 1000–2500 mg) which have never been observed to survive a dry season. 4) These mechanisms strongly couple core temperature to air temperature. The time constant of the core temperature is 29±10 s. Since air temperature can be 43–45°C, H. viridiflavus must have a very unusual tolerance to transient core temperatures of 43–45°C. 5) If air temperature rises above this lethal limit, the estivating frog would die despite all its optimizations, but moving from an unsuited to a more favorable site during estivation can be extremely costly in terms of unavoidably high evaporative water loss. Therefore, H. viridiflavus must have developed behavioral strategies for reliably choosing estivation sites with air temperature staying on average within the vital range during the whole dry season.Abbreviations a absorption coefficient - a absorption coefficient of a T OE model - A area - A A light absorbing area - A C theoretical body core area surrounding a constant core temperature - A D dorsal skin area - A E thermal (far infrared radiation) emitting area - A EM A E of a T OE model - A S silhouette area - A SM A S of a T OE model - A T total surface area - A v ventral area - b body breadth just behind the forelimbs - bw body weight - bl body length - C S specific heat capacity - C D conductive energy flow - C v convective energy flow - f (z) silhouette function - h C heat transfer coefficient - h CM heat transfer coefficient of a T OE model  相似文献

The growth, biochemical composition and fatty acid profiles of six Antarctic microalgae cultured at different temperatures, ranging from 4, 6, 9, 14, 20 to 30 C, were compared. The algae were isolated from seawater, freshwater, soil and snow samples collected during our recent expeditions to Casey, Antarctica, and are currently deposited in the University of Malaya Algae Culture Collection (UMACC). The algae chosen for the study were Chlamydomonas UMACC 229, Chlorella UMACC 234, Chlorella UMACC 237, Klebsormidium UMACC 227, Navicula UMACC 231 and Stichococcus UMACC 238. All the isolates could grow at temperatures up to 20 C; three isolates, namely Navicula UMACC 231 and the two Chlorella isolates (UMACC 234 and UMACC 237) grew even at 30 C. Both Chlorella UMACC 234 and Stichococcus UMACC 238 had broad optimal temperatures for growth, ranging from 6 to 20 C (μ = 0.19 – 0.22 day–1) and 4 to 14 C (μ = 0.13 – 0.16 day–1), respectively. In contrast, optimal growth temperatures for NaviculaUMACC 231 and Chlamydomonas UMACC 229 were 4 C (μ = 0.34 day–1) and 6–9 C (μ = 0.39 – 0.40 day–1), respectively. The protein content of the Antarctic algae was markedly affected by culture temperature. All except Navicula UMACC 231 and Stichococcus UMACC 238 contained higher amount of proteins when grown at low temperatures (6–9 C). The percentage of PUFA, especially 20:5 in Navicula UMACC 231 decreased with increasing culture temperature. However, the percentages of unsaturated fatty acids did not show consistent trend with culture temperature for the other algae studied.  相似文献

The biomass formation ofAzolla was greatly enhanced by water of the River Ganga and by prevailing environmental conditions. It increased gradually from January to April (first maximum 2.409 g.m–2.day–1), declined during June (1.185 g.m–2.day–1), and reached a second its maximum during September (2.629 g.m–2.day–1). The biomass formation was related to the nutrient availability in the medium in a particular season (measured were: nitrate-N, available phosphorus, total suspended solids, and conductivity). The average annual production of 6.73 ton.ha–1.yr–1 is equivalent to the average production of 0.025 ton.ha–1.yr–1 phosphorus, 0.252 ton.ha–1.yr–1 nitrogen, and 1.57 ton.ha–1.yr–1 crude protein.  相似文献

Fourteen chemicals were used to treat Catharanthus roseussuspension cell cultures to improve ajmalicine, catharanthine or serpentine biosynthesis. Ajmalicine production was increased by betaine (to 55 mg l–1), n-propyl gallate (to 27 mg l–1), succinic acid (to 31 mg l–1), malic acid (to 60 mg l–1) and tetramethyl ammonium bromide (to 64 mg l–1). Ajmalicine and catharanthine yields were about 5–6 fold higher than the control. A large portion (up to 50–85%) of total indole alkaloids was released into the medium. For maximal catharanthine production, the optimal doses of malic acid and tetramethyl ammonium bromide were 50 mg l–1and 120 mg l–1, respectively. The mechanisms which may be responsible for these treatment effects are discussed.  相似文献
