Simultaneous recording of the EEG activity of superficial cortical and deep (caudate nucleus, dorsal hippocampus, anterior hypothalamus) brain parts has been performed for the first time after a 2-h swinging of frequency of 0.2 Hz in Wistar rats of juvenile age. Swinging was produced on a 4-bar parallel swing. Using a Neuron-Spectre electroencephalograph and a Diana program, normalized power spectra of wave EEG components, synchronization coefficients, and coefficients of cross-correlation between bioelectrical potentials of various brain structures were determined. After a 2-h swinging, the mean value of normalized power of slow waves of δ-diapason in hypothalamus and hippocampus was found to increase statistically significantly, while normalized power of fast waves of α-and β1-diapasons in hippocampus decreased (p < 0.05). A statistically significant increase of synchronization coefficient was observed in hypothalamus and hippocampus. Changes of coefficients of cross-correlation between hypothalamus and hippocampus and other brain strictures were of the oppositely directed, individual character. In the parietal occipital brain cortex and in caudate nucleus, the changes of the EEG spectral composition also were of individual character. The obtained results on the whole correspond to data about an enhancement of the EEG low-frequency rhythms at swinging and agree with the resonance hypothesis of motion sickness. 相似文献

Chaotic component of human EEG oscillations in the high-frequency band (14.7-100 Hz) was investigated. EEG was recorded from four points in symmetrical frontal and occipital scalp areas. The results of the non-linear analysis of the high-frequency EEG indicate the existence of the deterministic chaotic component with a high attractor correlation dimension. It was significantly different from the respective values of the Gaussian noise filtered in the same frequency band. In the state of quiet wakefulness (eyes closed), the dimensions of chaotic components of the EEG in all derivations did not differ from each other. Analysis of correlation pairs between the ensembles of correlation dimensions of the high-frequency EEG revealed reliable patterns of significant connections between the neocortical areas with individual features in different subjects. When the functional state of the brain was changed by hyperventilation, both the values of the correlation dimensions and the structure of inter-area connection patterns changed. We believe that the nonlinear component of high-frequency EEG is a sensitive and local characteristic of the functional state of the human brain. 相似文献

IntroductionJuvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) often causes inflammation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and has been treated with both systemic and intra-articular steroids, with concerns about effects on growing bones. In this study, we evaluated the impact of a macromolecular prodrug of dexamethasone (P-DEX) with inflammation-targeting potential applied systemically or directly to the TMJ.MethodsJoint inflammation was initiated by injecting two doses of complete Freund’s adjuvant (CFA) at 1-month intervals into the right TMJs of 24 growing Sprague–Dawley male rats (controls on left side). Four additional rats were not manipulated. With the second CFA injection, animals received (1) 5 mg of P-DEX intra-articularly (n = 9), (2) 15 mg of P-DEX into the tail vein (n = 7), or (3) nothing in addition to CFA (n = 8). The rats were killed 28 days later and measured by radiography for ramus height (condylar superior to gonion inferior [CsGoInf]), by micro-computed tomography for condylar width (CW) and bone volume/standardized condylar volume (BV/CV), and by histology for retrodiscal inflammatory cells. Inflammation targeting of systemic P-DEX was confirmed by IVIS infrared dye imaging. Inflammation and bone growth were compared between groups using analysis of variance and Pearson’s correlations.ResultsCFA caused a significant reduction in CsGoInf (p < 0.05), but neither route of P-DEX administration had an effect on CsGoInf or CW at CFA injection sites. BV/CV was significantly reduced in both inflamed and control condyles as a result of either steroid application (p < 0.05). The inflammatory infiltrate was overwhelmingly lymphocytic, comprising 16.4 ± 1.3 % of the field in CFA alone vs. <0.01 % lymphocytes in contralateral controls (p < 0.0001). Both P-DEX TMJ (10.1 ± 1.2 %) and systemic P-DEX (8.9 ± 1.7 %) reduced lymphocytes (p < 0.002). The total area of inflammatory infiltrate was significantly less in the systemic injection group than in the group that received CFA injections alone (2.6 ± 1.5 mm2 vs. 8.0 ± 1.3 mm2; p = 0.009), but not in the group that received intra-articular P-DEX (8.8 ± 1.2 mm2).ConclusionsHigh-dose systemic administration of inflammation-targeting P-DEX is more effective than an intra-articular injection in reducing TMJ inflammation, but both routes may affect TMJ bone density. 相似文献

Isolation of male outbred white rats from the same age rats at 12-30 and 15-30 days of postnatal life increases their aggressiveness in pubertal age and causes a change of aggressive reactions spectrum towards the decrease of attacks and increase of threats in relation to intruders. These changes in the ontogenetic formation of rats aggressive behaviour are not compensated by the experience of rats social intercourse in the period 30-70th days. A hypothesis is made about the existence of sensitive period of rats aggressive behaviour formation with the approximate limits 15th-30th days of postnatal life during which under the influence of contacts with rats of the same age prerequisites are created for consolidation of various agonistic reactions in resultant act of mature aggression. 相似文献

Colostrum is a complex mixture of bioactives that promotes neonate growth. Studies show that it contains components capable of promoting bone formation and inhibiting bone resorption. Although many colostrum-based nutritional supplements have been developed as growth promotants, few studies have investigated their functional effects. A bovine colostrum 1-30 kDa fraction, Growth Protein-Colostrum (GP-C), was administered to juvenile rats as a dietary supplement to determine effects on growth and development. GP-C enhanced the growth and mineralization of the femur as evidenced by increased serum osteocalcin and bone mineral density. Increased levels of serum growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1 suggest that the mechanism of enhanced growth is partially controlled by endocrine factors. GP-C was also found to increase osteoblast proliferation in vitro, a finding that indicates a possible mechanism of action of GP-C, but further studies are required. Based on our findings, we hypothesize that a colostrum-based dietary supplement enhances bone growth and development in humans. 相似文献

Airway occlusion in awake humans producesa somatosensory evoked response called the respiratory-related evokedpotential (RREP). In the present study, 29 channel evoked-potentialrecordings were obtained from seven men who were exposed to 250-msinspiratory airway occlusions during wakefulness, stage 1, stage 2, andslow-wave sleep. The RREP recorded during wakefulness was similar toprevious reports, with the unique observation of an additionalshort-latency positive peak with a mean latency of 25 ms. Short-latencyRREP components were maintained in non-rapid-eye-movement (NREM) sleep. The clearly seen N1 vertex andlate positive complex components during wakefulness were markedlyattenuated during NREM sleep, and two large negative components(N300 andN550) dominated the sleep RREP.These findings indicate the maintenance of central nervous systemmonitoring of respiratory afferent information during NREM sleep,presumably to facilitate protective arousal responses topathophysiological respiratory phenomena. 相似文献

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is a well-characterized neuromodulator in the central nervous system, primarily implicated in the regulation of feeding. NPY, orexins, and ghrelin form a hypothalamic food intake regulatory circuit. Orexin and ghrelin are also implicated in sleep-wake regulation. In the present experiments, we studied the sleep-modulating effects of central administration of NPY in rats. Rats received intracerebroventricular injection of physiological saline or three different doses of NPY (0.4, 2, and 10 microg in a volume of 4 microl) at light onset. Another group of rats received bilateral microinjection of saline or 2 microg NPY in the lateral hypothalamus in a volume of 0.2 microl. Sleep-wake activity and motor activity were recorded for 23 h. Food intake after the control and treatment injections was also measured on separate days. Intracerebroventricular and lateral hypothalamic administration of NPY suppressed non-rapid-eye-movement sleep and rapid-eye-movement sleep in rats during the first hour after the injection and also induced changes in electroencephalogram delta power spectra. NPY stimulated food intake in the first hour after both routes of administration. Data are consistent with the hypothesis that NPY has a role in the integration of feeding, metabolism, and sleep regulation. 相似文献

During level walking, arm swing plays a key role in improving dynamic stability. In vivo investigations with a telemeterized vertebral body replacement showed that spinal loads can be affected by differences in arm positions during sitting and standing. However, little is known about how arm swing could influence the lumbar spine and hip joint forces and motions during walking. The present study aims to provide better understanding of the contribution of the upper limbs to human gait, investigating ranges of motion and joint reaction forces.A three-dimensional motion analysis was carried out via a motion capturing system on six healthy males and five patients with hip instrumented implant. Each subject performed walking with different arm swing amplitudes (small, normal, and large) and arm positions (bound to the body, and folded across the chest). The motion data were imported in a commercial musculoskeletal analysis software for kinematic and inverse dynamic investigation.The range of motion of the thorax with respect to the pelvis and of the pelvis with respect to the ground in the transversal plane were significantly associated with arm position and swing amplitude during gait. The hip external-internal rotation range of motion statistically varied only for non-dominant limb. Unlike hip joint reaction forces, predicted peak spinal loads at T12-L1 and L5-S1 showed significant differences at approximately the time of contralateral toe off and contralateral heel strike.Therefore, arm position and swing amplitude have a relevant effect on kinematic variables and spinal loads, but not on hip loads during walking. 相似文献

Age-dependent change in the effects of acute ethanol administration on female rat liver was investigated. Female Sprague-Dawley rats, each aged 4, 12, or 50 weeks, received ethanol (2 g/kg) via a catheter inserted into a jugular vein. Ethanol elimination rate (EER), most rapid in the 4 weeks old rats, was decreased as the age advanced. Hepatic alcohol dehydrogenase activity was not altered by age, but microsomal p-nitrophenol hydroxylase activity was significantly greater in the 4 weeks old rats. Relative liver weight decreased with age increase in proportion to reduction of EER. Hepatic triglyceride and malondialdehyde concentrations increased spontaneously in the 50 weeks old nai;ve rats. Ethanol administration (3 g/kg, ip) elevated malondialdehyde and triglyceride contents only in the 4 and the 12 weeks old rats. Hepatic glutathione concentration was increasingly reduced by ethanol with age increase. Ethanol decreased cysteine concentration in the 4 weeks old rats, but elevated it significantly in the older rats. Inhibition of gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase activity by ethanol was greater with age increase, which appeared to be responsible for the increase in hepatic cysteine. The results indicate that age does not affect the ethanol metabolizing capacity of female rat liver, but the overall ethanol metabolism is decreased in accordance with the reduction of relative liver size. Accordingly induction of acute alcoholic fatty liver is less significant in the old rats. However, progressively greater depletion of glutathione by ethanol in older rats suggests that susceptibility of liver to oxidative damage would be increased as animals grow old. 相似文献

Recent work indicates that the orexin/hypocretin-containing neurons of the lateral hypothalamus are involved in control of REM sleep phenomena, but site-specific actions in control of wakefulness have been less studied. Orexin-containing neurons project to both brainstem and forebrain regions that are known to regulate sleep and wakefulness, including the field of cholinergic neurons in the basal forebrain (BF) that is implicated in regulation of wakefulness, and includes, in the rat, the horizontal limb of the diagonal band, the substantia innominata, and the magnocellular preoptic region. The present study used microdialysis perfusion of orexin-A directly in the cholinergic BF region of rat to test the hypothesis that orexin-A enhances W via a local action in the BF. A significant dose-dependent increase in W was produced by the perfusion of three doses of orexin-A in the BF (0.1, 1.0, and 10.0 microM), with 10.0 microM producing more than a 5-fold increase in wakefulness, which occupied 44% of the light (inactive) phase recording period. Orexin-A perfusion also produced a significant dose-dependent decrease in nonREM sleep, and a trend-level decrease in REM sleep. The results clearly demonstrate a potent capacity of orexin-A to induce wakefulness via a local action in the BF, and are consistent with previous work indicating that the BF cholinergic zone neurons have a critical role in the regulation of EEG activation and W. The data suggest further that orexin-A has a significant role in the regulation of arousal/wakefulness, in addition to the previously described role of orexin in the regulation and expression of REM sleep and REM sleep-related phenomena. 相似文献

The relation between the duration of prior wakefulness and EEG power density during sleep in humans was assessed by means of a study of naps. The duration of prior wakefulness was varied from 2 to 20 hr by scheduling naps at 1000 hr, 1200 hr, 1400 hr, 1600 hr, 1800 hr, 2000 hr, and 0400 hr. In contrast to sleep latencies, which exhibited a minimum in the afternoon, EEG power densities in the delta and theta frequencies were a monotonic function of the duration of prior wakefulness. The data support the hypothesis that EEG power density during non-rapid eye movement sleep is only determined by the prior history of sleep and wakefulness and is not determined by clock-like mechanisms. 相似文献

We confirmed our previous observation that duodenal Ca2+ absorption and serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25-(OH)2D) levels declined concurrently in old (24 months old) rats as compared to young (6 months old) rats. It is well known that 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D-3 (1,25-(OH)2D3) expresses its action after binding to specific receptor molecules. In this paper, we compared certain properties of rat duodenal 1,25-(OH)2D3 receptors from old and young animals. Receptor preparations were incubated with [3H]1,25-(OH)2D3 to quantitate the number of unoccupied and total receptor sites and showed that total and unoccupied receptor sites decreased by 22 and 16%, respectively in old rats. Endogenously occupied sites were reduced by 43% in duodenum of the old rat and, consequently, the percentage of receptor occupancy also declined. Age did not affect the dissociation constant (KD) of 1,25-(OH)2D3 from the receptor; the sedimentation coefficient (3.3 S) of the tritiated 1,25-(OH)2D3-receptor complex in sucrose density centrifugation; or its affinity for DNA. The data are consistent with the hypothesis that the age-related decline in Ca2+ absorption in the intestine may be due, in part, to the decrement in the circulating level of 1,25-(OH)2D and a reduction of intestinal 1,25-(OH)2D3 receptor occupancy status. 相似文献

Inter- and intrahemispheric relations of electrical activity of the pre-motor, sensorimotor (representation of forelimb and blinking) and visual zones of rabbit's cerebral cortex in calm alertness was studied by method of spectral-correlative analysis. Mean coherence levels of the EEG of tested hemispheric symmetric points and symmetric pairs of leads in the left and right hemispheres were characterized by a high temporal stability in the state of calm alertness and during sensory stimulation. A comparison of mean coherence values of EEG in symmetric leads, revealed a tendency to left-side dominance of statistical bonds of electrical processes. A tendency was shown towards interhemispheric asymmetry by mean parameters of EEG power spectra: the left hemisphere of the rabbit is characterized by a lower mean frequency of electrical activity and a more narrow effective frequency of the spectrum. 相似文献
