Effects of prolactin (PRL), bromocriptine (Br), testosterone propionate (TP), dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and the combination of these androgens with PRL/Br on the total lipid, total cholesterol, total glyceride glycerols, total phospholipid and their fractions in seminal vesicles of castrated mature monkeys were studied. Glyceride glycerols formed the major portion (50%) of total lipids in normal monkeys. Cholesterol and phospholipids were of equal share (25%). Esterified cholesterol formed major share (75%) of total cholesterol. Diacyl glycerol was the major (60%) glyceride glycerol and phosphatidyl choline and ethanolamine were the major phospholipid classes. Except triacyl glycerol castration markedly decreased all the lipid classes. PRL restored normal free and esterified cholesterol and phosphatidyl inositol but Br invariably decreased all the lipid classes. TP/DHT treatment stimulated the free and esterified cholesterol more than the control; it restored the normal glyceride glycerols. Phosphatidyl inositol, choline and ethanolamine were stimulated by androgens and other phospholipid classes were brought to normal. Addition of PRL + TP/DHT markedly increased esterified cholesterol, phosphatidyl inositol, choline, ethanolamine and phosphatidic acid. In all these aspects, Br counteracted the effects of androgens and PRL.  相似文献

The effect of prolactin on specific activities of adenosine triphosphatases (ATPases) in neural and gliar cells of cerebral cortex, cerebellum and pons-medulla of immature male bonnet monkeys was studied. Na+, K+ dependent ATPase was stimulated, while Mg2+ and Ca2+ dependent ATPase activities showed reduction in neural as well as glial cells of cerebral cortex and cerebellum. However, in pons-medulla, Na+, K+ and Mg2+ dependent ATPases showed the same trend in neural and glial cells, respectively, as in the other two regions. The data obtained reveal that prolactin has specific effect on different ATPases, in different regions of the brain.  相似文献

Effects of prolactin (PRL), bromocriptine (Br), testosterone propionate (TP), dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and the combinations of these androgens with PRL/Br on the specific activities of caudal and cranial prostatic cellular enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism in castrated mature bonnet monkeys have been studied. Castration decreased all the enzymes studied such as hexokinase (HK), 6-phosphofructokinase (6-PFK), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-3-PD), pyruvate kinase (PK), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6-PGD) in the cranial and caudal prostates. PRL elevated the activities of all the enzymes above normal except G-3-PD of cranial lobe. In the caudal lobe, PRL brought back the activities of HK, PFK, PK, G-6-PD to normal and 6-PGD above normal except G-3-PD. TP/DHT treatment increased all the enzymes in both the lobes. PRL given along with TP/DHT further enhanced the androgen action with regard to HK, PK, G-6-PD and 6-PGD of cranial and PFK, G-3-PD, PK, G-6-PD and 6-PGD of caudal lobe. Br treatment did not produce any alteration of these enzymes in both the lobes. In the cranial lobe, during Br+TP/DHT treatment, the stimulating effects of androgen were unaffected on all the enzymes except PK. On the other hand in the caudal, the stimulatory effects of androgens were affected and the activities of HK, PFK, PK and 6-PGD were significantly decreased. The present results suggest that PRL has a direct as well as a synergistic action with androgens on enzymes of EMP and HMP shunt in the prostates of monkeys.  相似文献

Effects of androgens, prolactin (Prl) and bromocriptine (Br) on the specific activities of prostatic (caudal and cranial) enzymes of the pyruvate-malate cycle were studied in castrated mature bonnet monkeys. Castration decreased the activity of NADP+ isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH), ATP citrate lyase, malate dehydrogenase (MDH), malic enzyme and fatty acid synthase (FAS). Administration of testosterone propionate (TP)/dihydrotestosterone (DHT) increased the activities of all these enzymes in both lobes. Malate dehydrogenase maintained normal activity. Prl also had a stimulatory effect on the enzymes and was further enhanced when Prl was given in combination with TP/DHT. Unlike Prl, bromocriptine treatment inhibited all the enzymes in both lobes. Thus, prolactin was found to have a direct as well as a synergistic effect with androgens on enzymes of the pyruvate-malate cycle in the prostate of castrated mature monkeys.  相似文献

This report presents preliminary observational data on the sociosexual behavior of two newly formed groups of older (11.5 to 18.5 years of age, mean age of 15.3 years) bonnet monkeys observed over a period of 18 weeks. Qualitatively, their sexual behavior was similar to that of the younger mature bonnets. The males and females engaged in species-typical proceptive and receptive behavior patterns. The mean duration of copulations was somewhat shorter than that reported for younger mature bonnets. Decreased sexual function was recorded in males that were chronically ill. One male that copulated infrequently died of renal failure in the sixth week of study. Another male that was never observed copulating suffered from fatal diabetes mellitus. One male died apparently during coitus; autopsy findings were compatible with sudden cardiac death. The findings indicate that sexual dysfunction in aged primates can be a sign of serious illness. Sexual and agonistic behaviors for males correlated significantly, a finding reported in studies of rhesus macaques, which are typically a more aggressive macaque subspecies. Low sexual behavior during the first six-week period in Group A was correlated with a high amount of grooming. Possibly, increased grooming by females serves as a reactive behavior under conditions which do not allow sexual outlet.  相似文献

To elucidate the specific influence of prolactin on neutral lipids in Leydig, Sertoli and germ cell compartments of the testis in immature and mature monkeys, the present study was carried out by injecting ovine prolactin (oPRL) (1 mg/kg body weight/twice daily for 10 days ip), to both age groups. Similarly, bromocryptine (an ergot alkaloid which inhibits prolactin secretion) was given to other sets of immature and mature monkeys (1 mg/kg body weight/twice daily for 10 days ip) to induce hypoprolactinemia. It was observed that after oPRL administration the total lipid accumulated in the germ cells of immature and mature monkeys. Total lipid was markedly decreased in the Leydig cells of mature monkeys only. But no such influence of PRL was evident in the Leydig cells of immature monkeys, suggesting an age-dependent effect of PRL on the Leydig cells. The increase in total lipid in the germ cells following PRL treatment was contributed by mono, di- and triacyl glycerols and free cholesterol. However, an opposite effect of PRL was evident in the Leydig cells of mature monkeys, where the cholesterols and glyceride fractions registered a decrease. The reduced cholesterol fractions in the Leydig cells following PRL treatment suggests the utilization of cholesterol for steroidogenesis. Sertoli cells were found to be comparatively resistant to change in PRL status. Bromocryptine treatment brought about the opposite effect of PRL in almost all parameters studied in both immature and mature monkeys. In general, these findings with prolactin suggests that PRL has a specific and definite influence on testicular neutral lipids and the response of different cellular compartments was found to vary.  相似文献

Impact of altered serum prolactin status on enzymes involved in glycoprotein metabolism in epididymal tissue of matured monkeys was studied. Hyperprolactinemia (ovine prolactin-250 micrograms/kg body weight/day for 30 days) significantly inhibited the specific activities of dolichylphosphate mannosyl transferase, dolichylphosphate glucosyl transferase and galactosyl transferase, in the epididymal tissues. However, it had an enhanced effect on epididymal glycosidases such as beta-galactosidase, beta-N-acetyl glucosaminidase, beta-N-acetyl galactosaminidase, alpha-mannosidase and alpha-L-fucosidase. Hypoprolactinemia (bromocriptine mesylate-1-mg/kg body weight/day for 30 days) on other hand had no significant effect on the specific activities of both, glycosyltransferases and glycosidases, in the epididymal tissues. The results suggest that hyperprolactinemia inhibits epididymal glycoprotein metabolism by impairing the incorporation of oligosaccharide units into proteins with enhanced degradation. This may have adverse effect on events leading to sperm maturation in epididymal environment.  相似文献

This study reports observations on juvenile female bonnet macaques (Macaca radiata) in a field cage environment. Interaction and proximity data collected on different age classes of juvenile females indicate distinct changes in social behavior from the time a female is weaned until her first pregnancy. Behavioral development includes an increase in solitary behavior, an early disinterest in younger animals, and a surprisingly low interaction rate with relatives. Important aspects of ontogeny are lost in analyses that treat all juvenile females as a single age-class. This research was supported partially by US PHS Grant No. RR00169.  相似文献

In bonnet macaques, males usually disperse between groups and females remain philopatric, but researchers have reported female transfer. We report a rare case of male influx during the mating season in our bonnet macaque study group in the Anaimalai Hills. The density of bonnet macaques in the study region was unusually high. The study group had a single, crippled adult male with a long tenure and 5 adult females. During the mating season, adult females approached and mated with outgroup males, and then several males entered the group. The adult male left the group without any resistance. The incoming males mated with 3 receptive females, forcibly mated with 2 lactating females, and attacked and killed 2 infants. During the influx, 2 outgroup females joined the group. The data suggest that male influxes provide an opportunity for infanticide and female transfer, which can have important fitness consequences even in species in which they rarely occur.  相似文献

Time budgets for five major activities viz., Passive Sitting, Locomotion, Foraging, Social Behaviour, and Self-directed Behaviours were recorded for bonnet monkeys inhabiting forest, urban, and rural habitats. The time budgets were further classified into those of various age-sex classes. Significant inter-population differences were found in group size, social behaviour, foraging, and locomotion, which are discussed in relation to the habitat features.  相似文献

Impact of hyperprolactinaemia, induced by daily injection of ovine prolactin (250 micrograms/kg body weight, ip for 30 days) on testicular lipids was studied in M. radiata. Wet weights of testis and accessory sex organs decreased in hyperprolactinaemic monkeys. Even though total lipids in the testis did not show any significant change, total cholesterol and total glyceride glycerol decreased. While all fractions of testicular neutral lipids showed a perceptible decrease, phosphatidic acid, phosphatidyl ethanolamine and phosphatidyl choline increased in hyperprolactinaemic monkeys. Hyperprolactinaemia appears to influence male fertility by altering the composition of testicular neutral lipids and phospholipids.  相似文献

Administration of testosterone propionate (TP; 1 mg/kg body weight/day; im, for 30 days) to mature male bonnet monkeys, decreased total lipids, glyceride glycerol and cholesterol concentrations in hepatic tissue. The decrease in glyceride glycerol was due to decrease in monoacyl and triacyl glycerol. Both, free and esterified cholesterol were decreased after testosterone administration. Eventhough, total phospholipid was not significantly altered, phosphatidylserine and cardiolipin were increased, due to testosterone administration. Testosterone inhibited NADP-isocitrate dehydrogenase activity in liver. The findings suggest that testosterone acts as a lipolytic hormone and its action may be direct through its specific receptors in liver.  相似文献

The present study is aimed at determining some haematological and biochemical parameters in the wild Indian bonnet monkeys as also the microscopic and ultrastructural characteristics of their pancreatic islets. Adult wild Indian bonnet monkeys (Macaca radiata radiata) of both sexes weighing between 2.5 and 4 kg were used in these experiments. Their platelet, reticulocyte and total leukocyte counts and the blood concentrations of hemoglobin and plasma proteins and the serum concentrations of aspartate amino transferase, alanine amino transferase and calcium are similar to the values reported for M. mulatta. Plasma glucose is lower when compared with reported values of M. mulatta and M. fascicularis. Insulin levels are comparable with those of M. mulatta and M. nigra. Histology of islets is similar to that of humans. Ovoid cell collections of islet cells are scattered throughout the pancreas. Ultrastructure of A, B and D cells is similar to humans. These findings suggest that this relatively underutilized macaques may be a suitable model for biomedical research.  相似文献

Adult male rhesus monkeys were injected intramuscularly 100 micrograms, 1000 micrograms 5 alpha-androstane-3 alpha, 17 beta-diol or 100 micrograms dihydrotestosterone (DHT) per day for 70 days. A decrease in seminiferous tubular diameter was seen in treated animals. Androstanediol treatment disrupted spermatogenesis in most tubules. Sperm motility decreased within 40 days and by Day 70 non-motile spermatozoa were seen in 2 animals of each group treated with androstanediol. DHT treatment also decreased sperm motility progressively from Day 40. Both androgens caused retention of the cytoplasmic droplet and an increase in coiling of the tail of spermatozoa. Seminal fructose was decreased by Day 40 (1000 micrograms androstanediol) or Day 70 (100 micrograms androstanediol and 100 micrograms DHT). Seminal glycerophosphocholine (GPC) and acid phosphatase levels decreased by Day 70 in all treatment groups. Both steroids decreased circulating concentrations of testosterone without altering FSH or oestradiol values.  相似文献

To examine whether estradiol might be effective in maintaining sexual behavior after castration or after testosterone withdrawal, we have observed male rhesus monkeys during daily 1-hr tests alternately with each of two ovariectomized, estradiol-treated females (four males, four females, eight male-female pairs, 798 tests). Estradiol (2-5 micrograms/kg sc/day) or vehicle was administered in counterbalanced order immediately after castration and again immediately after withdrawal of testosterone propionate treatments (800 micrograms and 1.6 mg sc/day). There were no significant differences in behavior during vehicle and estradiol treatments to indicate that estradiol helped to maintain male sexual activity. Instead, estradiol treatment tended to interfere with the capacity to intromit. This supported the results of other studies, namely, that the systemic administration of estradiol does not enhance the sexual behavior of castrated male macaques, and raises questions about the role of both aromatization and estrogen receptors in the male primate brain.  相似文献
