1. Ross male broiler chicks growing from 14 to 28 days of age were fed 14 and 20% protein diets (4 kcal day-1/body wt0.66) or 20 and 28% protein diets (2.8 kcal day-1/body wt0.66) in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement to determine the effects of protein and energy intakes on in vitro lipogenesis (IVL) and net glucose production (NGP). Plasma concentrations of insulin, glucagon, thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) and somatomedin-C (Sm-C) were estimated by radioimmunoassay. 2. There was a significant (P less than 0.05) decrease in IVL in the chicks given the higher daily protein intake. 3. The higher protein intake increased (P less than 0.05) NGP while the lower energy intake decreased (P less than 0.05) NGP. 4. Insulin, both thyroid hormones and Sm-C were affected by dietary energy and protein intakes.  相似文献

The effects of thyroid manipulation on growth, feed efficiency, and plasma hormone levels were determined in rapidly growing chickens. Beginning at 3 weeks of age, eight broiler cockerels were provided with control feed (CF) or feed containing either 1 ppm of triiodothyronine (T3), 1 ppm of thyroxine (T4), 0.3% propylthiouracil (PTU), or 5 ppm of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) for 3 weeks. Blood samples were taken at 4, 5, and 6 weeks for determination of plasma levels of growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor, T3, T4, insulin, glucagon, glucose, and nonesterified fatty acids. Dietary TRH increased (P less than 0.05) the growth rate of chickens by 14% when compared with the CF group. Plasma growth hormone levels were reduced (P less than 0.05) 65% by dietary T3 and 33% by treatment with either T4 or TRH when compared with the CF group. Plasma insulin-like growth factor levels were 16% lower (P less than 0.05) in PTU-fed birds than the other treatment groups. Plasma T3 levels were elevated (P less than 0.05) 3-fold by dietary T3 and 38% by TRH whereas plasma T3 in the PTU group was 38% below the average of CF birds. Plasma T4 levels were increased (P less than 0.05) by 12-fold in T4-fed birds, decreased 48% in TRH-fed birds, and nondetectable in birds treated with either T3 or PTU. Compared with the other treatments, dietary PTU increased (P less than 0.01) plasma insulin levels 4.3-fold whereas TRH provided a 2.7-fold increase in plasma insulin. Plasma glucagon levels were 26% higher (P less than 0.05) in T3-fed birds than those fed either T4 or PTU. These observations indicate that thyroid activity plays an important role in regulating secretion of GH and the pancreatic hormones. Furthermore, our study demonstrates the potential use of TRH as an orally active growth promoter for poultry.  相似文献

Two groups of growing posthatching Cornish x Rock cross chickens were fed with either a carbohydrate-containing (52.5%) or a carbohydrate-free diet. At 36 days after hatching some of the chicks in each group were shifted to the opposite diet. Chickens fed on a carbohydrate-containing diet grew faster and achieved higher asymptotic masses than chickens fed on a carbohydrate-free diet. Chickens fed on a carbohydrate-free diet had longer intestines and larger intestinal areas than chickens of the same mass fed on a carbohydrate-containing diet. In both groups sucrase and maltase activity (standardized by either intestinal area or mass) increased from day 1 to approximately day 17. After day 17, chickens fed on a carbohydrate-containing diet exhibited 1.8 and 1.9 times higher sucrase and maltase activities per unit intestinal area, respectively, than chickens fed on a carbohydrate-free diet. Analysis of covariance was used to estimate the contribution of sucrase and the sucrase-independent maltases to maltase activity, and to estimate the effect of diet on the sucrase-independent maltases. Sucrase contributed 80% and 75% of the maltase activity in carbohydrate and carbohydrate-free fed chickens, respectively. Chickens shifted from a carbohydrate-free to a carbohydrate diet converged in gross intestinal morphology and intestinal sucrase and maltase levels with carbohydrate-fed chickens within 8 days. Chickens shifted from carbohydrate to carbohydrate-free diets, in contrast, did not show appreciable changes in intestinal length and after 8 days had not reduced levels of sucrase and maltase to those of chickens fed on the carbohydrate-free diet. A comparison of integrated maltase intestinal activity with published data on glucose uptake showed that the ratio of maltose hydrolysis to glucose uptake seemed to be about 7 and to remain relatively invariant during ontogeny. Because so little is known about the interaction between hydrolysis and uptake in vivo, it is difficult to determine if this relatively high ratio represents excess hydrolytic capacity or if it is needed to provide high lumenal glucose concentrations that maximize uptake.Abbreviations m body mass - K m Michaelis constant - K m * apparent Michaelis constant - GI gastro-intestinal  相似文献

L-Arginine (L-Arg) can serve as a substrate for the production of reactive nitrogen intermediates. One of these metabolites, nitric oxide, has been shown to possess significant antitumor properties in vitro. To investigate the importance of this system in vivo, we have examined the dietary L-Arg host tumor interaction in the chicken. Since chickens are incapable of de novo L-Arg synthesis, concentration of this amino acid is readily controlled by diet. Line UNH 105 New Hampshire chickens having the major histocompatibility complex genotype, B24/B24, were used to study in vivo effects of dietary L-Arg on Rous sarcoma growth. After 5 weeks on a standard diet, 119 chicks were fed either a basal (0.92% L-Arg) diet or a high arginine (2.40% L-Arg) diet. One week later, chicks were wing-web inoculated with subgroup A Rous sarcoma virus. Tumor growth was monitored weekly for 12 weeks after inoculation. Plasma L-Arg levels and body weights from birds on each dietary treatment were analyzed. Neither body weight gains nor latent period for tumor development was affected by diet. However, plasma L-Arg levels were significantly different between dietary treatments (basal, 0.245 +/- 0.01 mumol/ml; high, 0.738 +/- 0.03 mumol/ml). In addition, mean tumor size scores were significantly (P less than 0.05) lower over time in chickens fed the high L-Arg diet. The results suggest that dietary L-Arg in excess of the amount required for growth reduces tumor load.  相似文献

We previously reported differences in protein and carbohydrate selection patterns in post-weanling rats fed beef tallow or soybean oil-based diets. Two experiments were designed to determine the characteristic of the dietary fat which mediates the selection behavior. For each experiment, dietary fat was 20% (w/w) of diets and fatty acid profiles were obtained by blending fat sources. Rats were randomly assigned to diets (24% protein, 40% carbohydrate) which varied only in fatty acid composition. After 2 weeks, rats selected from 2 diets with the fat composition previously fed, but varying in their protein and carbohydrate composition (55% protein, 4% carbohydrate and 5% protein, 61% carbohydrate). Experiment 1 was designed to test the effect of relative (omega 6: omega 3 ratios of 1 and 20) and absolute (15% or 4% omega 6, 0.7% or 0.2% omega 3) differences in essential fatty acids on macronutrient selection patterns. Differences in dietary essential fatty acids had no effect on energy intake or the proportion of energy consumed as protein and carbohydrate. Experiment 2 examined the effect of differences in the level of saturated fat (3-10% diet (w/w] on protein and carbohydrate selection. Animals selecting from diets with higher levels of saturated fat consumed more energy as protein and less as carbohydrate than rats selecting from diets with lower levels of saturated fat (p less than 0.0001). Regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between percent protein or carbohydrate energy and classes of dietary fat. The strongest relationship existed between percent dietary saturated fat and percent protein or carbohydrate energy (p less than 0.0001). Polyunsaturated:saturated fat ratio was also weakly associated with percent protein and carbohydrate energy (p less than 0.05). Polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids were not significantly related to percent protein or carbohydrate energy. These results indicated that protein and carbohydrate selection patterns are altered in response to qualitatively different dietary fatty acids, and that the amount of saturated fat in the diet is the important characteristic of dietary fat mediating the behavioral alteration.  相似文献

Morphometric image analysis of splenocytes obtained from mice fed calorie-restricted diets for periods of up to three weeks revealed slight but significant changes in nuclear size, nuclear texture and total amounts of stainable Feulgen-positive DNA as compared to age-and-sex-matched control cells. The cellular changes were associated with body weight loss and changes in the distribution of splenic T cells and B cells during the three weeks of dietary restriction. The reduced nuclear area and Feulgen-stained DNA may reflect an altered susceptibility of cells from nutrient-restricted sources toward acid hydrolysis. This in turn may be indicative of a temporarily altered synthesis of subcellular components, as these phenomena seem to lessen by the third week of dietary restriction.  相似文献

The physiological mechanisms of thermogenesis, energy balance and energy expenditure are poorly understood in poultry. The aim of this study was designed to investigate the physiological roles of avian uncoupling protein (avUCP) regulating in energy balance and thermogenesis by using three chicken breeds of existence striking genetic difference and feeding with different dietary protein levels. Three chicken breeds including broilers, hybrid chickens, and non-selection Wuding chickens were used in this study. Total 150 chicks of 1 day of age, with 50 from each breed were reared under standard conditions on starter diets to 30 days. At 30 days of age, forty chicks from each breed chicks were divided into two groups. One group was fed low protein diet (LP, 17.0 %), and the other group was fed high protein diet (HP, 19.5 %) for 60 days. Wuding chickens showed the lowest feed conversion efficiency (FCE) and the highest expressions of avUCP mRNA association with high plasma T3 and insulin concentrations. Hybrid chickens showed the lowest expressions of avUCP mRNA association with high FCE and energy efficiency. Expressions of avUCP mRNA association with diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT) were only observed in broiler and hybrid chickens. The expressions of avUCP mRNA were positive association with plasma insulin, T3 and NEFA concentrations. Age influence on the expression of avUCP mRNA were observed only for hybrid and broiler chickens. It seems that both roles of avUCP regulation thermogenesis and lipid utilisation as fuel were observed in the present study response to variation in dietary protein and breeds.  相似文献

Zinc (Zn) is an essential mineral for animal development and function. A study was carried out to evaluate the effect of sex and dietary organic zinc (OZ) on growth performance, carcass traits, tissue mineral content, and blood parameters of broiler chickens. A total of 240 1-day-old male and 240 female broiler chicks (Cobb × Cobb) were assigned to two dietary levels of OZ (2 × 2 factorial) with six replicates per treatment (20 birds/replicate pen). The OZ supplementation levels were 0 and 25 ppm. Results showed that OZ supplementation did not affect the growth performance of male and female broilers, but the males showed significantly better (P < 0.05) growth performance than females did. Similarly, OZ supplementation did not affect the thickness of both the back and thigh skin of male and female broilers; however, males had thicker skin than females. Dietary OZ supplementation did not affect collagen contents in the skin and meat samples. Male broilers had higher skin collagen contents than females, but no sex difference was found in meat collagen contents. OZ supplementation did not affect the shear force values of skin and meat samples. Male broilers had higher shear force values of back skin than females, but not in the meat samples. Dietary OZ supplementation increased (P < 0.05) the thigh meat Zn content in both sexes. The plasma Ca content was significantly (P < 0.05) increased by dietary OZ supplementation; however, other blood parameters were not affected by dietary OZ supplementation. Males had higher plasma glucose and cholesterol content than females. It is concluded that dietary OZ supplementation at the level of 25 ppm does not affect the growth performance and skin quality of broiler chickens but increases the Zn content in thigh meat and Ca content in plasma of broiler chickens. Male broilers had better growth performance and skin quality than females.  相似文献

The effect of thyroid hormone therapy (L-T4 or L-T3) on plasma immunoreactive insulin-like growth factor I (somatomedin C, Sm-C) concentrations was studied in 8 normal controls, 14 primary hypothyroid subjects and in 7 patients with endemic cretinism. In normals basal levels of Sm-C (1.56 +/- 0.77 U/ml) increased to (2.46 +/- 1.0 U/ml; L-T4) and to (2.9 +/- 0.95 U/ml; L-T3). Plasma Sm-C basal levels were significantly lower in primary hypothyroid subjects (0.81 +/- 0.48 U/ml) and increased to 2.54 +/- 1.43 U/ml (L-T4) and to 2.16 +/- 0.83 U/ml (L-T3). A significant and positive correlation (r = 0.56) was found between Sm-C and serum T4 and T3 concentrations. Plasma Sm-C concentrations in endemic cretinism were initially normal in 4 patients, but low in the remaining 3 (mean +/- SD: 1.18 +/- 0.63 U/ml) and did not increase after 12 months (1.34 +/- 0.61 U/ml) or 18 months (1.01 +/- 0.43 U/ml) of L-T4 and L-T3 therapy. Plasma T4 levels and free T4 increased considerably in EC after therapy with a significant decrease in the previously elevated plasma TSH concentrations. The subnormal response of plasma Sm-C during effective thyroid thyroid hormone therapy could be an additional factor involved in growth failure of endemic cretins.  相似文献

An 8‐week growth trial was carried out in a semi‐recirculation system at 26 ± 0.5°C to investigate the optimal dietary carbohydrate‐to‐lipid (CHO:L) ratio for carnivorous Chinese longsnout catfish (Leiocassis longirostris Günther). Triplicate tanks of fish were assigned to each of five isocaloric and isonitrogenous diets with different carbohydrate‐to‐lipid ratios (0.75, 1.48, 1.98, 2.99 and 5.07). The results showed that a higher specific growth rate (SGR) and feed rate (FR) were observed in the fish fed diet ratios of 1.98 CHO:L (P < 0.05). Overloading dietary carbohydrate (5.07 CHO:L ratio) caused skeletal malformations. Apparent digestibility of dry matter (ADCd) significantly increased with dietary CHO:L ratio (P < 0.05), while significantly higher apparent digestibility of protein (ADCp) and apparent digestibility of energy (ACDe) was observed only in the 1.98 CHO:L group (P < 0.05). Whole body contents of dry matter, lipid and energy significantly increased as the CHO:L ratio decreased (P < 0.05). The hepatosomatic index (HSI) was highest at 1.98 CHO:L ratio (P < 0.05). Highest dietary CHO:L ratio resulted in lower liver glycogen, liver lipid, plasma glucose and plasma triacylglycerol (P < 0.05), whereas there was no significant difference in plasma total cholesterol (P > 0.05). High dietary CHO:L ratio caused pathological changes in fish morphology and liver histology. Based on maximum growth, the optimal carbohydrate‐to‐lipid ratio was 1.98 for Chinese longsnout catfish.  相似文献

以初始体重为(137.5±0.4)g的大黄鱼Larimichthys crocea为实验对象,在海水浮式网箱中进行为期8周的摄食生长实验,研究饲料中糖水平对其生长、饲料利用、血液生化指标和糖代谢酶活力等的影响,以确定大黄鱼的饲料糖需求量。实验饲料按等氮(粗蛋白质45%)等能(18 kJ/g)设计,糖含量分别为1.75%、6.67%、13.64%、21.15%、26.69%和32.25%。结果表明随着饲料糖水平的升高,大黄鱼特定生长率(SGR)先升高后降低,当糖含量为26.69%时,SGR达最大值,显著高于糖含量为1.75%、6.67%、13.64%和32.25%处理组(P < 0.05)。饲料效率(FER)和蛋白质效率(PER)均在糖含量为13.64%-21.15%时显著高于其他处理组(P < 0.05)。随饲料中糖水平的升高,全鱼粗脂肪含量显著降低,在糖含量为32.25%时降至最低(10.56%),显著低于其他处理组(P < 0.05)。肝体比和肝糖原含量均随饲料糖水平的升高而显著升高(P < 0.05),在糖含量为32.25%时达到最大值,显著高于糖含量为1.75%和6.67%处理组(P < 0.05)。随饲料糖水平的升高,血浆甘油三酯和胆固醇水平均显著降低(P < 0.05),而血糖水平不受饲料糖含量的影响(P>0.05)。大黄鱼血清溶菌酶、脂蛋白脂酶和肝脂酶活性均随饲料糖水平的升高显著降低(P < 0.05),而肠淀粉酶活性表现为先升高后降低,在糖含量为26.69%时,酶活力达到最大值。随饲料糖水平的升高,大黄鱼肝脏己糖激酶活性先上升后下降,在糖含量为21.15%时达到最大值,显著高于糖含量为32.25%处理组(P < 0.05),而丙酮酸激酶活力在糖水平为32.25%时达到最大值,显著高于糖含量为1.75%和6.67%处理组(P < 0.05)。用二次多项回归模型拟合特定生长率和饲料糖水平的关系,得到大黄鱼饲料中最适糖含量为22.7%。  相似文献

Feed form is well recognized to improve broiler performance, specially by increasing feed intake (FI). However, when different diet energy levels are used, the results differ in the literature. Therefore, this experiment was conducted to evaluate the influence of feed form and dietary metabolizable energy (ME) levels on broiler performance, carcass yield and on the digestibility of DM, CP, starch and gross energy. In total, 1152 male Cobb 500 broilers were evaluated between 35 and 47 days. The birds were distributed according to a completely randomized design in a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement, consisting of two feed forms (mash or pellet) and four ME levels (12.73, 13.06, 13.40 or 13.73 MJ/kg), totaling eight treatments with eight replicates of 18 birds. Broilers fed the lowest ME level presented the lowest weight gain (WG) and worst feed per unit gain (P < 0.01). Metabolizable energy intake increased (P < 0.01) with progressive increments of ME, which, however, did not affect caloric conversion (CC, P > 0.05). Pelleted diets promoted higher FI, WG, ME intake (P < 0.01) and better feed per unit gain and CC (P < 0.05) compared with mash. In mash diets, increasing dietary ME levels promoted a linear increase in WG (P < 0.01) and reduced feed per unit gain (P ≤ 0.05), but did not affect FI (P > 0.05). In pelleted diets, on the other hand, increasing ME levels linearly reduced FI (P < 0.05) and feed per unit gain (P < 0.01). Broilers fed pelleted diets presented higher abdominal fat deposition than those fed mash (P < 0.05). Increasing ME levels reduced the coefficients of ileal apparent digestibility of DM (P < 0.01) and total starch (P < 0.05) but did not affect the digestibility of other evaluated nutrients. The digestibility of all nutrients was lower when pelleted diets were fed compared with mash. Increasing inert material inclusion in the diets at the expense of soybean oil to reduce dietary ME levels promoted higher pellet durability index values (P < 0.05) and the percentage of fines (P < 0.01). Overall, the results suggest that pelleted diets promote better broiler performance because they increase FI, since the digestibility of dietary fractions is reduced. Chickens consuming low-energy pelleted diets may increase FI to compensate for energy deficit. In contrast, broilers fed mash diets may have reached their maximum intake capacity and did not regulate FI by changing feed energy density. When feeding pelleted diets, dietary energy reduction should be considered to reduce feed costs and to improve the carcass quality of broilers.  相似文献

Insulin and glucagon receptors were measured on hepatocytes in relation to circulating hormones (insulin, glucagon and growth hormone) and metabolites (non-esterified fatty acids, volatile fatty acids, glucose, total lipids, urea and alpha-amino nitrogen), in twelve, two-year old, castrated male goats, fed rations of different composition and dietary energy. The goats were separated into four groups; group 1 was fed a restricted ration of 600 g clover hay/day, group 2 a ration high in carbohydrate (rolled barley), group 3 a ration high in fat (protected tallow) and group 4 a ration high in protein (fish meal). Rations in groups 2 - 4 were fed at 1300 g/day supplemented with 600 g of clover hay. The binding of insulin to hepatocyte receptors was increased by restricting dietary intake when compared to the high energy intake groups (p less than 0.01). There was no significant difference between the insulin binding of groups 2 -4. Glucagon receptor binding was increased on the high protein diet in comparison with th ration high in carbohydrate (p less than 0.05) or in fat (p less than 0.01). The glucagon binding was reduced by restricting feed intake when compared wih feeding high protein (p less than 0.02), but slightly increased when compared with feeding diets high in both carbohydrate or fat (p less than 0.02). There was no significant difference between the high carbohydrate or high fat fed groups. These changes in hormone receptors were accompanied by inverse changes in plasma insulin and glucagon.  相似文献

Pure cholesterol (PC), oxidized cholesterol (OC) and cholestane-3 beta,5 alpha,6 beta-triol (CT) were fed to male Hubbard chicks for 3 weeks in a basal grain diet. Feed consumption and weight gain of chicks fed OC (1.0%) or CT (0.1%) were not significantly different from that of chicks fed PC (0.85%) or the basal diet alone. Plasma cholesterol level was significantly (P less than 0.05) higher in chicks fed PC compared to controls; however, compared to other dietary groups, differences were not significant. Measurement of hepatic lipogenesis, in vivo, from labeled substrates showed that [14C]acetate was primarily utilized for fatty acid synthesis in all dietary groups. The relative order was PC greater than PC + CT greater than OC greater than CT greater than basal. Conversely, [3H]mevalonate was preferentially used for cholesterogenesis and the relative effectiveness was basal greater than CT greater than OC greater than PC + CT greater than PC.  相似文献

To investigate the effects of different carbohydrate (CHO) levels in the diet of Wuchang bream Megalobrama amblycephala, the fish were randomly divided into six treatment groups. Five groups were fed 19, 25, 31, 38 and 47% CHO, respectively, for 8 weeks, and a control group was fed a diet with no CHO. Growth performance and feed utilization were significantly (P < 0.05) affected by the dietary carbohydrate level. Maximum weight gain and specific growth rate occurred at the 31% dietary carbohydrate level. Compared to the control, the 31% CHO group had a significantly increased serum total protein content, respiratory burst activity of leucocytes, serum complement 3 (C3) levels, serum lysozyme activity, serum alkaline phosphatase (AKP) activity and hepatic total antioxidative capacity (T‐AOC), as well as a decrease in serum glutamic‐oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) activity. Compared to the control, the 47% CHO group had significantly increased serum GOT activity, and a tendency toward an increase in serum cortisol content and a decrease in serum lysozyme activity, hepatic superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and T‐AOC. The relative level of hepatic heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) mRNA in fish fed the 38% CHO diet was significantly higher than those of fish fed the 19, 25 and 31% CHO diets, respectively (P < 0.05). After challenge with Aeromonas hydrophila, fish fed the 47% CHO had the significantly lowest post‐challenge survival, and fish fed the 31% CHO had the significantly highest post‐challenge survival (P < 0.05). The results of this study suggest that ingestion of excessive dietary CHO can impact the non‐specific immune responses, decrease the hepatic antioxidant abilities, and thus affect the health status of M. amblycephala.  相似文献

A completely randomized design study with a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement was conducted to evaluate the effects of three different fat sources (soybean oil, tallow, and poultry fat) with or without emulsifier supplementation on performance, coefficient of total tract apparent digestibility (CTTAD) of fatty acids, and apparent metabolizable energy (AME) content in broiler chickens. Two hundred and fifty-two one-day-old male Arbor Acres broiler chickens were randomly divided into 6 different treatments: (T1) basal diet containing soybean oil without lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) supplementation, (T2) basal diet containing soybean oil with LPC supplementation, (T3) basal diet containing tallow without LPC supplementation, (T4) basal diet containing tallow with LPC supplementation, (T5) basal diet containing poultry fat without LPC supplementation, and (T6) basal diet containing poultry fat with LPC supplementation. Body weight gains from broiler chicks fed diets containing tallow were lower (P<0.05) than the body weight gains from chicks that were fed diets containing soybean oil or poultry fat in both the starter and grower periods. Birds fed diets containing tallow had the highest FCR (P<0.05), followed by the birds that were fed diets containing poultry fat, and soybean oil. The CTTAD of C16:0, C18:2, and C18:3n3 was greater (P<0.05) for broilers fed diets containing soybean oil than for those fed diets containing tallow or poultry fat in the starter period. The addition of LPC increased (P<0.05) body weight gain of broiler chickens in the starter period and the AME of the diets in the grower period, and tended to reduce FCR (P=0.072) in the starter period. LPC supplementation increased (P<0.05) the CTTAD of C16:0, C18:1n7 and C18:1n9 in the starter period, and of C18:2, and C18:3n3 in the grower period (P<0.05). There were no significant interactions between fat sources and the addition of LPC. These data indicated that LPC supplementation can improve body weight gain of broiler chickens in the starter period. This effect may be associated with an increase of CTTAD of FA due to LPC activity.  相似文献

Plasma concentrations of 3,5,3'-triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) were measured before, during and for between 2 and 6 hr following a meal, in young growing piglets. T3 increased after a meal and reached a peak at approximately 60 min. The magnitude of the rise was dependent on both the energy content and nutrient composition of the meal. In animals given either a high or low energy intake baseline values of T3 were similar, whereas there was a difference in the response to a meal (P less than 0.01). Average increases in hormone concentration were 120% (P less than 0.001) and 50% (P less than 0.05) on the high and low intakes respectively. Plasma T4 also increased in those on high intake (P less than 0.025), but no change was detected when the intake was low. The response of T3 to a meal high in either glucose, sucrose, fat or protein was statistically significant except for the protein meal. The rise in T4 after each of these four meals was less consistent, although it did increase significantly after meals high in sucrose or fat. Amongst several possibilities, these results suggest that a meal may induce an increase in secretion of T3 and T4 from the thyroid gland.  相似文献

In a prospective controlled study, we evaluated pigs (5-month period) and chickens (11-week period) fed subtherapeutic levels of virginiamycin. A total of 13 Enterococcus faecium were isolated from 10 pigs and 17 from 8 chickens. There were 8 pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) patterns in E. faecium isolates from pigs and 17 from chickens. Resistance to quinupristin/dalfopristin resistance occurred in 2 of 13 E. faecium from pigs and 2 of 17 E. faecium from chickens. There were no strains exhibiting high-level gentamicin (MIC> or =2000 microg/ml) or vancomycin resistance. There was no relative weight gain in animals that received virginiamycin. The mean weight increase for the pigs in the group fed virginiamycin was 107.6 lb vs. 126.4 lb in the group that did not receive virginiamycin (P=n.s.). Chickens fed virginiamycin had a mean weight increase of 1672 g vs. 1886 g in the group that did not receive virginiamycin (P=n.s.). There was no correlation between receipt of virginiamycin or weight gain and presence of quinupristin/dalfopristin-resistant strains.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to modulate seminal plasma insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) by dietary energy and assess the relationship among testosterone and IGF-I levels, semen quality and fertility in adult rams. Twenty-four 1-yr old adult Nellore rams were equally divided into three groups (n = 8) and fed with three different concentrate mixtures formulated using conventional ingredients and finger millet (Eleucine corocana) straw to ensure rams received with similar amount of crude protein with three levels of energy. Rams in low-energy group were offered diets with 20% less energy than the control energy group (optimum energy, 100%, recommended energy level), whereas rams in high energy group were offered diets with 20% more energy than the optimum energy group. Semen was collected from rams 60 days after start of the experimental feeding. The percentages of progressive forward motility, functional membrane integrity and mitochondrial membrane potential of the spermatozoa were significantly (P < 0.05) higher in control and high energy groups as compared to low-energy group. Feeding of low-energy diet significantly (P < 0.05) decreased spermatozoa VSL, VCL and VAP when compared to control and high energy fed groups. The number of spermatozoa binding/oocyte was significantly (P < 0.05) higher in control (11.23 ± 0.20) and high energy (10.57 ± 0.19) groups as compared to the low energy (6.14 ± 0.01) group. The serum and seminal plasma IGF-I levels were significantly (P < 0.05) higher in control and high energy fed groups as compared to the low-energy group. The serum testosterone and cholesterol levels were significantly (P < 0.05) higher in the control group as compared to the low-energy group. The seminal plasma fructose levels in optimum energy fed animals were significantly (P < 0.05) higher as compared to other two groups. The seminal plasma IGF-I level had positive correlation with progressive forward motility (r = 0.7) and other velocity (linearity, r = 0.7; straightness, r = 0.7) parameters. The study suggested that the modulation of seminal plasma IGF-I levels by dietary energy is possible and the optimum level of seminal plasma IGF-I is necessary and sufficient to influence semen quality.  相似文献

Rats fed dietary fats rich in 20- and 22-carbon polyenoic fatty acids deposit less fat and expend more energy at rest than rats fed other types of fats. We hypothesized that this decrease in energetic efficiency was the product of: (a) enhanced peroxisomal fatty acid oxidation and/or (b) the up-regulation of genes encoding proteins that were involved with enhanced heat production, i.e. mitochondrial uncoupling proteins (UCP-2, UCP-3) and peroxisomal fatty acid oxidation proteins. Two groups of male Fisher 344 rats 3-4 week old (n=5 per group) were pair fed for 6 weeks a diet containing 40% of its energy fat derived from either fish oil or corn oil. Epididymal fat pads from rats fed the fish oil diet weighed 25% (P < 0.05) less than those found in rats fed corn oil. The decrease in fat deposition associated with fish oil ingestion was accompanied by a significant increase in the abundance of skeletal muscle UCP-3 mRNA. The level of UCP-2 mRNA skeletal muscle was unaffected by the type of dietary oil, but the abundance of UCP-2 mRNA in the liver and heart were significantly lower (P < 0.05) in rats fed fish oil than in rats fed corn oil. In addition to inducing UCP-3 expression, dietary fish oil induced peroxisomal acyl-CoA oxidase gene expression 2-3 fold in liver, skeletal muscle and heart. These data support the hypothesis that dietary fish oil reduces fat deposition by increasing the expression of mitochondrial uncoupling proteins and increasing fatty acid oxidation by the less efficient peroxisomal pathway.  相似文献
