Campylocentrum guarinae sp. nov. (Vandeae,Orchidaceae) from Colombia

A new species of Campylocentrum from the Colombian Andes, C. guarinae, is described, illustrated and placed within a key to Colombian species of the genus. The new species resembles C. lansbergii from which it differs in vegetative and floral characters. The main differences between these species are described and illustrated.     

Scrophularia attariae and S. maharluica spp. nov. (Scrophulariaceae) from south Iran

Two new species of Scrophularia L. sect. Tomiophyllum Benth., S. attariae Ranjbar & Rahchamani and S. maharluica Ranjbar & Rahchamani, are described and illustrated from Fars Province, south Iran. The diagnostic morphological characters of these species and closely related taxa are discussed. The distribution, ecology and conservation status of the new species are also described. The value and utility of stem indumentum and leaf stomata is evaluated as an additional source of information for their taxonomy. Finally, an identification key and distribution map for the new taxa and related species are presented.     

THE GENUS PLATOMA (GIGARTINALES,RHODOPHYTA) WITH A DESCRIPTION OF P. ABBOTTIANA SP. NOV.1

Platoma abbottiana (Gymnophlaeaceae; Gigartinales), a new species of benthic red algae, is described from Isla Mejía and is the second member of this genus reported from the Gulf of California, Mexico. Vegetative anatomy and reproductive details of the carpogonial and auxiliary cell branches of the new species are described and illustrated. Geographical distributions of the seven previously described Platoma species are given. Their distinguishing morphological characteristics are compared to those of the new species. The correct time and place of valid publication of the generic name, Platoma, and some of its binomials are discussed.     

Bryophytes of St Helena,South Atlantic Ocean. 1. Three new species of Cololejeunea (Jungermanniales,Lejeuneaceae), C. dianae sp. nov., C. sanctae-helenae sp. nov. and C. grossestyla sp. nov.

Abstract

Three new species of Cololejeunea, C. dianae M. Wigginton, C. sanctae-helenae M. Wigginton and C. grossestyla M. Wigginton are described and illustrated from St Helena, South Atlantic Ocean. Details of their distributions are provided, and differences between the new taxa and other species of Cololejeunea are discussed. This is also the first report of the genus Cololejeunea from St Helena.     

Phytolyma tchuentei sp.n. (Hemiptera: Homotomidae), a new species of psyllid associated with Morus mesozygia (Moraceae) from Cameroon

A new Phytolyma species from Cameroon is described. Phytolyma tchuentei sp.n. is similar to P. minuta Hollis but antenna, male and female terminalia are different from the four described African Phytolyma species. P. tchuentei sp.n. develops on Morus mesozygia (Moraceae). Unlike the other Phytolyma species, the new species does not cause galls on leaves and buds of its host.     

Penicillium caerulescens,sp. nov. isolated from soil

One new species of Penicillium Link ex Gray nom. cons. prop. is described and illustrated. This species has been recovered from samples of sandy soil under pine trees. It differs from all species of the Genus described so far and is, therefore, considered and proposed as new taxon: Penicillium caerulescens n. sp.     

A new species of Carpophilus Stephens (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae) from Florida,U.S.A., and a reappraisal of the type material of Carpophilus ophthalmicus Murray

A new species of Carpophilus is described from males and females taken in Florida, U.S.A. A lectotype male and paralectotype female are chosen for Carpophilus ophthalmicus, and a new species is described from material misidentified as ophthalmicus.

Summary Pseudographiella with the type species,P. variaseptata, andPhragmographium with the type species,P. ulmi, are described as new synnematous taxa. Both of these new species produce phragmospores. In addition, a new species ofDendrostilbella, D. bonari, is described as new.     

Centaurea rahiminejadii sp. nov. and a new record in the genus Centaurea (Asteraceae,Cardueae–Centaureinae) from Iran

A new species, Centaurea rahiminejadii Negaresh (Asteraceae) in C. sect. Cynaroides Boiss. ex Walp., is described and illustrated from the Kermanshah Province, west Iran. It is morphologically similar to Centaurea regia Boiss. subsp. regia. Diagnostic morphological of this and closely related taxa are discussed and presented. The ecology, habitat and conservation status of the new species are also described. In addition, Centaurea regia subsp. cynarocephala (Wagenitz) Wagenitz is reported as a new record to the flora of Iran. Finally, the geographic distribution of the new species and closely related species is presented and mapped.     

Cyrtochilum kraenzlinianum and Cyrtochilum maasii spp. nov. (Orchidaceae,Oncidieae) from Colombia

Two new orchid species from the Cyrtochilum halteratum‐alliance, Cyrtochilum kraenzlinianum and C. maasii, are described and illustrated based on Colombian material. Both novelties are similar to C. halteratum, but they are separable from this species based on floral characteristics. Information about the habitat and ecology of the new species as well as brief notes on their taxonomic affinities are provided.     

Alpinia newmanii sp. nov. (Zingiberaceae) from central Vietnam

Alpinia newmanii, a new species from central Vietnam, is described and illustrated. A morphological comparison with the most closely related species and a key to the species of Alpinia subsection Catimbium in Vietnam are provided.     

Anatrichus bimaculatus sp. n. (Diptera: Chloropidae) and differential characters between A. bimaculatus sp. n. and A. erinaceus

A new species, Anatrichus bimaculatus sp. n. (Diptera: Chloropidae), is described from Zambia. Two African Anatrichus species, A. bimaculatus sp. n. and A. erinaceus, are characterized, and the main differential features are illustrated.     

Artabotrys byrsophyllus and A. tipuliferus spp. nov. (Annonaceae) from Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand

Two new species of Artabotrys (Annonaceae) from Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand are described. Conservation assessments for the two new species are made.     

HALIMEDA HUMMII SP. NOV., HALIMEDA CRYPTICA V. ACERIFOLIA VAR. NOV. (CAULERPALES,CHLOROPHYTA), AND ADDITIONAL RECORDS OF HALIMEDA SPECIES FROM: PUERTO RICO1

A new species, Halimeda hummii, and a new variety of Halimeda cryptica Colinvaux and Graham both originally collected from the edge of the continental shelf on the southwest coast of Puerto Rico are newly described. The new species is irregular in its segment morphology and is the smallest species of Halimeda presently known. Halimeda cryptica var. acerifolia from deep water possesses distinctive segments resembling maple leaves. Halimeda copiosa Goreau and Graham and typical H. cryptica are also collected in deep water and are newly recorded from Puerto Rico.     

Chassalia magnificens sp. nov. and C. chrysoclada comb. nov. (Rubiaceae) from central Africa

Chassalia magnificens, a new species from the Albertine Rift in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, is described and illustrated. The species is recognised inter alia by its large stipules and montane habitat. Chassalia chrysoclada is a new combination for a widespread, but hitherto overlooked, central African species originally described in the genus Psychotria. Chassalia chrysoclada is related to C. pteropetala (K. Schum.) Cheek but lacks the bicostate twigs and dorsally winged corolla lobes of that species.     

Trachyspermum reginei sp. nov. (Apiaceae) from southwest Iran

Trachyspermum reginei Ajani & Mozzaff. sp. nov., is described and illustrated as a new species from Chaharmahale Bakhtiari province, SW Iran. The new species differs from its closest relative T. confusum, endemic to Afghanistan, mainly by stem, leaf and fruit morphological characters. Its taxonomic relationships with T. podlechii and T. ammi are also discussed. The new species is threatened by different factors and its protection is recommended.
