Freshwater sphaeriid bivalves are poorly known ecologically, particularly uncommon species such as Pisidium pseudosphaerium (UK RDB (Red Data Book) staus = ‘rare’). In the UK, this species occupies grazing marsh where conservation opportunities might be shared with other threatened molluscs. We surveyed sphaeriids including P. pseudosphaerium and snails in 106 drainage ditches in SE England in 1999. P. pseudosphaerium occupied over half the ditches surveyed, at slightly elevated BOD (6 ± 7 mg l−1 sd) but reduced calcium (64 ± 31 mg l−1) and nitrate (0.5 ± 1.2 mg l−1). As part of a sphaeriid assemblage comprising Sphaerium corneum, Musculium lacustre and Pisidium obtusale (=Assemblage 1), P. pseudosphaerium occurred in ditches with floating vegetation and abundant snails of conservation importance, co-occurring significantly with either Valvata macrostoma (RDB ‘vulnerable’) or Anisus vorticulus (RDB: ‘vulnerable’). A more diverse sphaeriid assemblage (=Assemblage 2) included species common in wider, deeper ditches with open water. We suggest that traditional ditch management can support both rare and representative snails and bivalves on grazing marsh. Quasi-traditional and rotational ditch clearance will favour common sphaeriids and pioneer snails during early succession; P. pseudosphaerium, V. macrostoma, A. vorticulus during mid-succession; and the snail Segmentina nitida (RDB: ‘Endangered’) in late successional ditches. In common with threatened snails, P. pseudosphaerium will also benefit from reduced eutrophication. We recommend that P. pseudosphaerium retain RDB status to ensure protection and to emphasise the need for improved ecological information.  相似文献

The kinetic properties of a microsomal gill (Na+,K+)-ATPase from the blue crab Callinectes danae were analyzed using the substrate p-nitrophenylphosphate. The (Na+,K+)-ATPase hydrolyzed PNPP obeying cooperative kinetics (n=1.5) at a rate of V=125.4±7.5 U mg−1 with K0.5=1.2±0.1 mmol l−1; stimulation by potassium (V=121.0±6.1 U mg−1; K0.5=2.1±0.1 mmol l−1) and magnesium ions (V=125.3±6.3 U mg−1; K0.5=1.0±0.1 mmol l−1) was cooperative. Ammonium ions also stimulated the enzyme through site–site interactions (nH=2.7) to a rate of V=126.1±4.8 U mg−1 with K0.5=13.7±0.5 mmol l−1. However, K+-phosphatase activity was not stimulated further by K+ plus NH4+ ions. Sodium ions (KI=36.7±1.7 mmol l−1), ouabain (KI=830.3±42.5 μmol l−1) and orthovanadate (KI=34.0±1.4 nmol l−1) completely inhibited K+-phosphatase activity. The competitive inhibition by ATP (KI=57.2±2.6 μmol l−1) of PNPPase activity suggests that both substrates are hydrolyzed at the same site on the enzyme. These data reveal that the K+-phosphatase activity corresponds strictly to a (Na+,K+)-ATPase in C. danae gill tissue. This is the first known kinetic characterization of K+-phosphatase activity in the portunid crab C. danae and should provide a useful tool for comparative studies.  相似文献

The existence of two types of binding sites for ouabain in human erythrocyte membranes is described. Receptor sites designated as ‘type I’, which may be identical to the K+-insensitive sites of intact cells, were detected at concentrations of ouabain as low as 10−7 M. The ‘type II’ receptor sites require the inclusion of Mg2+ + Pi to form complexes with ouabain; they may be identical to the K+-sensitive sites of intact cells. These sites were saturated at approx. 5 · 10−7 M ouabain but could not be detected at higher concentrations. The range of ouabain concentrations at which ‘type I’ receptors start to predominate (i.e. 5 · 10−8–5 · 10−7 M) was termed ‘critical digitalis concentrations’. The process of binding reached equilibrium within 1 and 4 h for ‘type I’ and ‘type II’ sites, respectively. The dissociation constant for ‘type II’ receptor-ouabain complexes was 7.6 · 10−9 M.Under similar experimental conditions, rat erythrocyte membranes exhibited only non-saturable sites.Alterations in the proportions of the two types of receptors were demonstrated by preincubation of the membranes, in the presence or absence of Mg2+ + Pi, prior to the addition of ouabain. In the first case, ‘type II receptor-ouabain’ complexes were stabilized at about 50% of the untreated membranes and ‘type I-ouabain’ complexes slowly approached equilibrium over a period of 24 h. In the latter instance, ‘type I’ receptors were not detected, and only ‘type II-ouabain’ complexes prevailed.  相似文献

Thyroid hormone (T3) has been demonstrated to inhibit the action of aldosterone on sodium transport in toad urinary bladder and rat kidney. We have exammined the effect of T3 on aldosterone action and specific nuclear binding in cultured epithelial cells derived from toad urinary bladder. In cell line TB6-C, addition of 5·10−8 M T3 to culture media for up to 3 days results in no change in short-circuit current or transepithelial resistance. This concentration of T3 completely inhibits the maximal increase in short-circuit current in response to 1·10−7 M aldosterone. The inhibition can be demonstrated with 18 h preincubation or with simultaneous addition of T3 and aldosterone. The half-maximal concentration for the inhibition of the aldosterone effect is approx. 5·10−9 M T3. T3 has no effect on cyclic AMP-stimulated short-circuit current in these cells. The effect of T3 on nuclear binding of [3H]aldosterone was examined using a filtration assay with data analysis by at least-squares curve-fitting program. Best fit was obtained with a model for two binding sites. The dissociation constants for the binding were Kd1 = (0.82 ± 0.36)·10−10 M and Kd2 = (3.2±0.60)·10−8 M.The half-maximal concentration for aldosterone-stimulated sodium transport in these cells is approx. 1·10−8 M. Analysis of nuclear aldosterone binding in cells preincubated for 18 h with 5·10−8 M T3 showed a Kd1 = (0.15 ± 0.10)·10−10 M and Kd2 = (3.5 ± 0.10)·10−8 M. We conclude that T3 i action of aldosterone on sodium transport at a site after receptor binding in the nucleus.  相似文献

Mouse peritoneal macrophages activated by bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) were incubated with human α2-macroglobulin converted to its ‘fast’ form with either trypsin or methylamine before being stimulated with phorbol myrystate acetate. Both α2-macroglobulin-trypsin and α2-macroglobulin-methylamine inhibited macrophage production of superoxide anion (O2) while native α2-macroglobulin had little effect except at high concentration. The α2-macroglobulin ‘fast’ forms, which bind with a Kd of about 8 nM, inhibited 50% generation of O2(ID50) at a concentration of 7 nM while α2-macroglobulin inhibited O2 production with an ID50 of 141 nM. The ‘fast’ forms of α2-macroglobulin may play a role in the feedback regulation of inflammatory reactions.  相似文献

We investigate the effect of the prostaglandin D2 metabolite Δ12−PGD2 (9−Deoxy−Δ9, Δ12−13,14-dihydroprostaglandin D2) on collagen synthesis in human osteoblast. Δ12-PGJ2 at 10−5M enhanced collagen synthesis in the presence of 2 mM α-glycerophosphate-2Na. The stimulative effect appeared as early as 3 days after addition and continued until 22 days. The enhancement of type I collagen synthesis was confirmed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The potency was the same as 101t-8M 1 α, 25 dihydroxy vitamine D3 (1,25(OH)2D3). Northern blot analysis showed that 10−5M Δ 12-PGD2 and 10−8M 1,25(OH)2D3 enhanced the transcribtion of type 1 procollagen (α1) mRNA levels in osteoblasts.  相似文献

Plants were regenerated from root explants of Arabidopsis halleri (L.) O’Kane and Al-Shehbaz via a three-step procedure callus induction, induction of somatic embryos and shoot development. Callus was induced from root segments, leaflets and petiole segments after incubation for 2 weeks in Murashige and Skoog medium (MS) supplemented with 0.5 mg/l−1 (2.26 μM) 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) and 0.05 mg/l−1 (0.23 μM) kinetin. Only calli developed from root segments continued to grow when transferred to a regeneration medium containing 2.0 mg/l−1 (9.8 μM) 6-γ-γ-(dimethylallylamino)-purine (2ip) and 0.05 mg/l−1 (2.68 μM) α-naphthalenacetic acid (NAA) and eventually 40 of them developed embryogenic structures. On the same medium 38 of these calli regenerated shoots. Rooting was achieved for 50 of the shoots subcultured in MS medium without hormones. The regeneration ability of callus derived from root cuttings, observed in this study, makes this technique useful for genetic transformation experiments and in vitro culture studies.  相似文献

The diffusion translational coefficient DT of core particles in monodisperse solutions has been measured by the quasielastic light scattering method in a large scale of salinities over the range 6.10−4 to 2M Na+ or K+. The observed values of DT are independent of particle concentration in the range 0.1–2 mg/ml and do not vary with the scattering vector q corresponding to scattering angles between 40°–120°. When the salinity is progressively raised an increase of DT from 1.9.10−7 cm2s−1 to 3.2.10−7 cm2s−1 was observed at about 2.10−3 M NaCl followed by a decrease of DT beyond 0.6 M NaCl.The various possible causes of the changes of DT such as interactions between particles or between particles and salt ions are discussed. We show that the single low ionic strength change is due to a conformational transition of the core particles, while the second variation of DT accompanies the disorganization of the core particles.  相似文献

A multi-functional enzyme ICChI with chitinase/lysozyme/exochitinase activity from the latex of Ipomoea carnea subsp. fistulosa was purified to homogeneity using ammonium sulphate precipitation, hydrophobic interaction and size exclusion chromatography. The enzyme is glycosylated (14–15%), has a molecular mass of 34.94 kDa (MALDI–TOF) and an isoelectric point of pH 5.3. The enzyme is stable in pH range 5.0–9.0, 80 °C and the optimal activity is observed at pH 6.0 and 60 °C. Using p-nitrophenyl-N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminide, the kinetic parameters Km, Vmax, Kcat and specificity constant of the enzyme were calculated as 0.5 mM, 2.5 × 10−8 mol min−1 μg enzyme−1, 29.0 s−1 and 58.0 mM−1 s−1 respectively. The extinction coefficient was estimated as 20.56 M−1 cm−1. The protein contains eight tryptophan, 20 tyrosine and six cysteine residues forming three disulfide bridges. The polyclonal antibodies raised and immunodiffusion suggests that the antigenic determinants of ICChI are unique. The first fifteen N-terminal residues G–E–I–A–I–Y–W–G–Q–N–G–G–E–G–S exhibited considerable similarity to other known chitinases. Owing to these unique properties the reported enzyme would find applications in agricultural, pharmaceutical, biomedical and biotechnological fields.  相似文献

Brush border membrane vesicles (BBMV) enriched in sucrase, maltase and alkaline phosphatase, and impoverished in Na+-K+-ATPase, were isolated from proximal and distal intestine of the gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) by a MgCl2 precipitation method. Vesicles were suitable for the study of the characteristics of D-glucose apical transport. Only one D-glucose carrier was found in vesicles from each intestinal segment. In both cases, the D-glucose transport system was sodium-dependent, phlorizin-sensitive, significantly inhibited by D-glucose, D-galactose, α-methyl-D-glucose, 3-O-methyl-D-glucose and 2-deoxy-D-glucose, and showed stereospecificity. Apparent affinity constants of D-glucose transport (Kt) were 0.24 ± 0.03 mM in proximal and 0.18 ± 0.03 mM in distal intestine. Maximal rate of influx (Jmax) was 47.3 ± 2.2 pmols. mg−1 protein for proximal and 27.3 ± 3.6 pmols. mg−1 protein for distal intestine. Specific phlorizin binding and relative abundance of an anti-SGLT1 reactive protein were significantly higher in proximal than in distal BBMV. These results suggest the presence of the same D-glucose transporter along the intestine, with a higher density in the proximal portion. This transporter is compatible with the sodium-dependent D-glucose carrier described for other fish and with the SGLT1 of higher vertebrates.This revised version was published online in June 2005 with a corrected cover date.  相似文献

Here we characterized transepithelial taurine transport in monolayers of cultured human intestinal Caco-2 cells by analyzing kinetic apical and basolateral uptake and efflux parameters. Basolateral uptake was Na+- and Cl- dependent and was inhibited by β-amino acids. Uptake by this membrane showed properties similar to those of the apical TauT system. In both membranes, taurine uptake fitted a model consisting of a non-saturable plus a saturable component, with a higher half-saturation constant and transport capacity at the apical membrane (Km, 17.1 μmol/L; Vmax, 28.4 pmol·cm−2·5 min−1) than in the basolateral domain (Km, 9.46 μmol/L; Vmax, 5.59 pmol·cm−2·5 min−1). The non-saturable influx component, estimated in the absence of Na+ and Cl, showed no significant differences between apical and basolateral membranes (KD, 89.2 and 114.7 nL·cm−2 · 5 min−1, respectively). Taurine efflux from the cells is a diffusive process, as shown in experiments using preloaded cells and in trans-stimulation studies (apical KD,72.7 and basolateral KD, 50.1 nL·cm−2·5 min−1). Basolateral efflux rates were significantly lower than passive influx rates. We conclude that basolateral taurine uptake in Caco-2 cells is mediated by a transport mechanism that shares some properties with the apical system TauT. Moreover, calculation of unidirectional and transepithelial taurine fluxes reveals that apical influx of this amino acid is higher than basolateral efflux rates, thereby enabling epithelial cells to accumulate taurine against a concentration gradient.  相似文献

Miniature heat balance-sap flow gauges were used to measure water flows in small-diameter roots (3–4 mm) in the undisturbed soil of a mature beech–oak–spruce mixed stand. By relating sap flow to the surface area of all branch fine roots distal to the gauge, we were able to calculate real time water uptake rates per root surface area (Js) for individual fine root systems of 0.5–1.0 m in length. Study aims were (i) to quantify root water uptake of mature trees under field conditions with respect to average rates, and diurnal and seasonal changes of Js, and (ii) to investigate the relationship between uptake and soil moisture θ, atmospheric saturation deficit D, and radiation I. On most days, water uptake followed the diurnal course of D with a mid-day peak and low night flow. Neighbouring roots of the same species differed up to 10-fold in their daily totals of Js (<100–2000 g m−2 d−1) indicating a large spatial heterogeneity in uptake. Beech, oak and spruce roots revealed different seasonal patterns of water uptake although they were extracting water from the same soil volume. Multiple regression analyses on the influence of D, I and θ on root water uptake showed that D was the single most influential environmental factor in beech and oak (variable selection in 77% and 79% of the investigated roots), whereas D was less important in spruce roots (50% variable selection). A comparison of root water uptake with synchronous leaf transpiration (porometer data) indicated that average water fluxes per surface area in the beech and oak trees were about 2.5 and 5.5 times smaller on the uptake side (roots) than on the loss side (leaves) given that all branch roots <2 mm were equally participating in uptake. Beech fine roots showed maximal uptake rates on mid-summer days in the range of 48–205 g m−2 h−1 (i.e. 0.7–3.2 mmol m−2 s−1), oak of 12–160 g m−2 h−1 (0.2–2.5 mmol m−2 s−1). Maximal transpiration rates ranged from 3 to 5 and from 5 to 6 mmol m−2 s−1 for sun canopy leaves of beech and oak, respectively. We conclude that instantaneous rates of root water uptake in beech, oak and spruce trees are above all controlled by atmospheric factors. The effects of different root conductivities, soil moisture, and soil hydraulic properties become increasingly important if time spans longer than a week are considered.  相似文献

The uptake of ammonium, nitrate and phosphate by laboratory-grown young sporophytes of Laminaria abyssalis was measured in a perturbed system (batch mode) at 18 °C and 35 ± 5 µE m–2 s–1 photon flux density. Uptake of all appeared to follow saturation-type nutrient uptake kinetics. The NO inf3 sup– (K s = 14.0 µM, V max = 5.0 µmol h–1 g–1 dry wt) and NH inf4 sup+ (K s = 4.6 µM, V max= 2.0 µmol h–1 g–1 dry wt) were taken up simultaneously, although NH inf4 sup+ was taken up more rapidly. Values of K 3 and V max for phosphate were, respectively, 2.21 µM and 0.83 µmol h–1 g–1 dry wt. Nitrate and phosphate were both consumed in similar rates (V max /Ks 0.37) at low concentrations. NH inf4 sup+ , thus, might be a more efficient form of N fertilizer if artificial enrichment of seawater is used.  相似文献

Pathways of K+ movement across the erythrocyte membrane of frog Rana temporaria were studied using 86Rb as a tracer. The K+ influx was significantly blocked by 0.1 mmol·l-1 ouabain (by 30%) and 1 mmol·l-1 furosemide (by 56%) in the red cells incubated in saline at physiological K+ concentration (2.7 mmol·l-1). Ouabain and furosemide had an additive effect on K+ transport in frog red cells. The ouabain-sensitive and furosemide-sensitive components of K+ influx saturated as f(K+)e with apparent K m values for external K e + concentration of 0.96±0.11 and 4.6±0.5 mmol·l-1 and V max of 0.89±0.04 and 2.8±0.4 mmol·l cells-1·h-1, respectively. The residual ouabain-furosemide-resistant component was also a saturable function of K e + medium concentration. Total K+ influx was significantly reduced when frog erythrocytes were incubated in NO - 3 medium. Furosemide did not affect K+ transport in frog red cells in NO 3 - media. At the same K e + concentration the ouabain-furosemide-insensitive K+ influx in Cl- medium was significantly greater than that in NO - 3 medium. We found no inhibitory effect of 1 mmol·l-1 furosemide on Na+ influx in frog red cells in Cl- medium. K+ loss from the frog erythrocytes in a K+-free medium was significantly reduced (mean 58%) after replacement of Cl- with NO - 3 . Furosemide (0.5 mmol·l-1) did not produce any significant reduction in the K+ loss in both media. The Cl--dependent component of K+ loss from frog red cells was 5.7±1.2 mmol·l-1·h-1. Summary The utility of the lipophilic anion thiocyanate (SCN+) as a probe for the indirect estimation of the cell membrane potential (V m ) in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells has been evaluated by comparison to direct electrophysiological measurements. SCN accumulation is consisten with first-order uptake into a single kinetically-identifiable cellular compartement, achieving steadystate distribution in 20–30 min at 22°C. The steady-state distribution ratio ([SCN] c /[SCN] e ) in physiological saline is 0.44±0.02. Treatment of the cells with proparanolol (0.13 mM), an activator of Ca2+ dependent K+ channels, reduces the steady-state distribution ratio to 0.19±0.02. Conversely, treatmetn with BACl2 (10 mM), an antagonist of the pathway, increases the SCN distribution ratio to 0.62±0.01. The equilibrium potentials (V SCN ) calculated under these conditions are virtually identical to direct electrophysiological measurements of theV m made under the same conditions. The effect of varing extracellular [K+]([K+] e ) in the presence of constant [Na+] e =100 mM has also been tested. In control cells, elevation of [K+] e from 6 to 60 mM reducesV SCN from –20.6±1.0 to –13.2±1.2 mV. Again, microelectrode measurements give excellent quantitative agreement. Propranolol increases the sensitivity of the cells to varying [K+] e , so that a 10-fold elevation reducesV SCN by approximately 31 mV. BaCl2 greatly reduces this reponse: a 10-fold elevation in [K+] e yielding only a 4-mV rediction inV SCN . It is concluded that the membrane potential of Ehrlich cells can be estimated accurately from SCN distribution measurements.  相似文献

This study investigates the reverse mode of the Na+/glucose cotransporter (SGLT1). In giant excised inside-out membrane patches from Xenopus laevis oocytes expressing rabbit SGLT1, application of α-methyl-D-glucopyranoside (αMDG) to the cytoplasmic solution induced an outward current from cytosolic to external membrane surface. The outward current was Na+- and sugar-dependent, and was blocked by phlorizin, a specific inhibitor of SGLT1. The current-voltage relationship saturated at positive membrane voltages (30–50 mV), and approached zero at −150 mV. The half-maximal concentration for αMDG-evoked outward current (K0.5αMDG) was 35 mM (at 0 mV). In comparison, K0.5αMDG for forward sugar transport was 0.15 mM (at 0 mV). K0.5Na was similar for forward and reverse transport (≈35 mM at 0 mV). Specificity of SGLT1 for reverse transport was: αMDG (1.0) > D-galactose (0.84) > 3-O-methyl-glucose (0.55) > D-glucose (0.38), whereas for forward transport, specificity was: αMDG ≈ D-glucose ≈ D-galactose > 3-O-methyl-glucose. Thus there is an asymmetry in sugar kinetics and specificity between forward and reverse modes. Computer simulations showed that a 6-state kinetic model for SGLT1 can account for Na+/sugar cotransport and its voltage dependence in both the forward and reverse modes at saturating sodium concentrations. Our data indicate that under physiological conditions, the transporter is poised to accumulate sugar efficiently in the enterocyte.  相似文献

The nitrogen uptake and growth capabilities of the potentially harmful, raphidophycean flagellate Heterosigma akashiwo (Hada) Sournia were examined in unialgal batch cultures (strain CCMP 1912). Growth rates as a function of three nitrogen substrates (ammonium, nitrate and urea) were determined at saturating and sub-saturating photosynthetic photon flux densities (PPFDs). At saturating PPFD (110 μE m−2 s−1), the growth rate of H. akashiwo was slightly greater for cells grown on NH4+ (0.89 d−1) compared to cells grown on NO3 or urea, which had identical growth rates (0.82 d−1). At sub-saturating PPFD (40 μE m−2 s−1), both urea- and NH4+-grown cells grew faster than NO3-grown cells (0.61, 0.57 and 0.46 d−1, respectively). The N uptake kinetic parameters were investigated using exponentially growing batch cultures of H. akashiwo and the 15N-tracer technique. Maximum specific uptake rates (Vmax) for unialgal cultures grown at 15 °C and saturating PPFD (110 μE m−2 s−1) were 28.0, 18.0 and 2.89 × 10−3 h−1 for NH4+, NO3 and urea, respectively. The traditional measure of nutrient affinity—the half saturation constants (Ks) were similar for NH4+ and NO3 (1.44 and 1.47 μg-at N L−1), but substantially lower for urea (0.42 μg-at N L−1). Whereas the α parameter (α = Vmax/Ks), which is considered a more robust indicator for substrate affinity when substrate concentrations are low (<Ks), were 19.4, 12.2 and 6.88 × 10−3 h−1/(μg-at N L−1) for NH4+, NO3 and urea, respectively. These laboratory results demonstrate that at both saturating and sub-saturating N concentrations, N uptake preference follows the order: NH4+ > NO3 > urea, and suggests that natural blooms of H. akashiwo may be initiated or maintained by any of the three nitrogen substrates examined.  相似文献

Summary Laboratory scale and pilot plant reactors were inoculated with an efficient denitrifier, Brachymonas denitrificans(CCUG 45880), in order to evaluate whether a bio-augmentation approach can be used to enhance biological nitrogen removal from tannery effluents. To determine the effectiveness of the introduced strain, denitrifying activity in the activated sludge was monitored by nitrate uptake rate (NUR) measurement of NO3-N. Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) technique was used to monitor the growth of the augmented species. The laboratory scale nitrate removal efficiency with the introduced B. denitrificans (3.7±0.6 mg NO3-N gVSS −1 h −1) was higher than that of the activated sludge without the addition of the bacteria (3.5±0.7 mg NO3-N gVSS −1 h −1); the NUR in the pilot plant after and before the introduction of the strain was also of the magnitude of 12.0±1.4 and 10.6±1.4 mg NO3-N gVSS −1 day −1 , respectively. In situ hybridization results revealed that the introduced denitrifying bacteria significantly facilitated the development of a dense denitrifying bacterial population in the activated sludge, which enhanced in situ denitrification activity. FISH data indicated that once introduced, B. denitrificans remained abundant throughout the experimental period. The ability to seed a bioreactor with bacterial strain capable of removing target pollutants from tannery effluents in a mixed microbial community suggests that this approach could have commercial applications.  相似文献

The kinetics of substitution reactions of [η-CpFe(CO)3]PF6 with PPh3 in the presence of R-PyOs have been studied. For all the R-PyOs (R = 4-OMe, 4-Me, 3,4-(CH)4, 4-Ph, 3-Me, 2,3-(CH)4, 2,6-Me2, 2-Me), the reactions yeild the same product [η5-CpFe(CO)2PPh3]PF6, according to a second-order rate law that is first order in concentrations of [η5-CpFe(CO)3]PF6 and of R-PyO but zero order in PPh3 concentration. These results, along with the dependence of the reaction rate on the nature of R-PyO, are consistent with an associative mechanism. Activation parameters further support the bimmolecular nature of the reactions: ΔH = 13.4 ± 0.4 kcal mol−1, ΔS = −19.1 ± 1.3 cal k−1 mol−1 for 4-PhPyO; ΔH = 12.3 ± 0.3 kcal mol−1, ΔS = 24.7 ±1.0 cal K−1 mol−1 for 2-MePyO. For the various substituted pyridine N-oxides studied in this paper, the rates of reaction increase with the increasing electron-donating abilities of the substituents on the pyridine ring or N-oxide basicities, but decrease with increasing 17O chemical shifts of the N-oxides. Electronic and steric factors contributing to the reactivity of pyridine N-oxides have been quantitatively assessed.  相似文献
