Fishery is an important economic activity in the Pantanal. Among the regions species, the Pimelodidae catfish stands out as an important part of the annual catch. This study assesses the structure, exploitation and stock management of Hemisorubim platyrhynchos and Sorubim cf. lima, the sixth and seventh largest Pimelodidae of the Pantanal. The analysis is based on fish caught by commercial fishing in the Cuiabá river and landed at the "Ant?nio Moysés Nadaf" Market in the Cuiabá city, Mato Grosso state, Brazil. The findings indicate that commercial fishing activities target several fish cohorts and that usually only individuals above mean length at first maturation are caught. Estimates of the instantaneous mortality coefficient show that the current fishing mortality is low. Simulations of relative yield-per-recruit model demonstrate that the current yield of two species could be greater if the fishery effort were increased, indicating that the stocks are underexploited. However, an increase in current fishery efforts should be viewed with caution, since the stock-recruitment relationship for the species is unknown. The results indicate that the current harvest of two species in the Cuiabá River Basin is sustainable.  相似文献

The Duckbill Catfish, Sorubim lima, is a predator of large South American rivers. The age and growth of S. lima were studied based on the pectoral fin-spines of samples collected from the Cuiabá River, Pantanal. The samples were taken from commercial and experimental hook-and-line fishing. An analysis of the marginal increment suggests that the growth rings are formed once a year during the dry season, from July to September (ANOVA type I: F = 4.183; g.l. = 3 and 104; p = 0.008). The estimate of the parameters that describe von Bertalanffy's growth curve by nonlinear regression of the observed lengths in the age were: L infinity = 56.0 cm (fork length); k = 0.245 year-1; to = -2.605 years. The animals were estimated to have a life span of 9.6 years. The findings indicate that the fork length is a good predictor of the age of individuals of this fish species.  相似文献

Insect drift on shore of lakes and seas is a relatively common phenomenon although apparently not frequently reported in the literature. Here we review the worldwide occurrence of insect drift with emphasis on Heteroptera, and speculate on possible causes to explain such phenomenon. The dramatic drift of millions of specimens of the pentatomid Mayrinia curvidens (Mayr) on the shore of the southern coast of the Atlantic ocean in Brazil is reported for the first time. This drift, previously observed to occur in the mid 70s on the coast of Paraná state with minor intensity (A.R. Panizzi, unpublished) was again observed on January 2006 along the Atlantic coast of Paraná (latitude 25 masculine 45 S), where an estimated population of 16 to 18 million of dead specimens of the bug were observed forming a windrow for at least 15 km along the ocean shore. The circumstances of such event are analyzed in detail considering meteorological data and the possible build up of populations of the bug on cultivated and non-cultivated host plants along the coast of the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina.  相似文献

The tick-bird relationship of 56 specimens of birds (Passeriformes and Columbiformes) collected in the city of Curitiba, State of Paraná, between 1990 and 1995, among which 102 specimens of Ixodes (Multidentatus) auritulus were found and analyzed. New host records were also produced including the first report of I. auritulus on a Columbiformes bird in Brazil.  相似文献

Three neotropical species of freshwater fish (Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum, P. tigrinum and Sorubim lima) of the Amazon region (Brazil) were cytogenetically analysed by means of conventional, silver staining and C-banding techniques. All showed 2n = 56, with a predominance of biarmed chromosomes. The NORs were located in the terminal position on the short arms, and only two chromosomes bearing NORs were detected. Heterochromatin was found to be equilocally distributed in some chromosomes of the three species, which may share homologous chromosomes. The present data indicate a somewhat conservative karyotypic evolution in this fish group.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of Sorubim lima spermatogenesis during the premeiotic and meiotic periods was studied. Our observations showed that the germ cells in the cysts are connected by cytoplasmic bridges and the mitotic and meiotic divisions are slightly asynchronous. The first and the last spermatogonial generations differ in the cellular and nuclear volume, nucleolus, chromatin condensation, distribution, size, density, and shape of the mitochondria, presence of 'lamellae anulata', amount and dimension of the 'nuages', and movement of the centrioles. In addition to the nuclear prophase structures, the spermatocyte I shows changes in all other cellular organelles and elongated vesicles appear in the cytoplasm. The accentuated cytoplasmic density and thickened walled vesicles are morphological characteristics that differentiate spermatocytes II from the other germ cells in the cysts of Sorubim lima testis.  相似文献

The genus Zungaro contains some of the largest catfish in South America. Two valid species are currently recognized: Zungaro jahu, inhabiting the Paraná and Paraguay basins, and Zungaro zungaro, occurring in the Amazonas and Orinoco basins. Analysing Zungaro specimens from the Amazonas, Orinoco, Paraguay and Paraná basins, based on the sequencing of COI and D-loop, we found at least three MOTUs, indicating the existence of hidden diversity within this fish group. Considering the ecological and economic values of this fish, our results are surely welcomed for its conservation, disclosing new findings on its diversity and pointing out the necessity for a detailed taxonomic revision.  相似文献

The length‐weight relationship (LWR) was evaluated in six fish species occurring in the Rio Morato, which is located in the east state of Paraná, Brazil, in well‐preserved areas of Atlantic Forest. The fishes were collected every 2 months from November/2016 to October/2017 and the fishing equipment used was consisted of dragnets, mesh sieves and gillnets. The specimens were weighed and measured in the laboratory. The mean growth coefficients obtained ranged from 2.5 to 3.2, confirming the range describe in the literature.  相似文献

We compared environmental influences on the assemblages of stream fishes of contiguous but biogeographically distinct parts of the Upper Paraguay and Paraná basins in Brazil, aiming to describe the main distribution patterns of fish species in the headwater streams. We analyzed bimonthly samples in 10 streams in each basin from January to November 2004. Sixty fish species were collected, including 40 species in streams of the Paraguay Basin and 42 species in streams of the Paraná Basin. The species abundance rank did not differ between the basins. We found a clear differentiation between the Paraguay and Paraná stream fish assemblages. There were significant differences in species composition among streams, but no seasonal differences in species composition. Connectivity between streams explains the differences in species composition for the Paraguay streams, but not for the Paraná streams. Hydrological characteristics were the main factors determining species distribution in both basins, suggesting that the migratory capacity of each species and biogeographical barriers may act to filter the local species composition from the total species pool of colonizers. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequences were used to infer the phylogenetic relationships of Prochilodus species in the Paraná, Amazonas, Orinoco, and Magdalena basins. Sequences of ATPase subunits 6 and 8 (total 840 bp) were obtained for 21 Prochilodus specimens from the four river systems. Using Semaprochilodus as an outgroup, phylogenetic analyses showed that: (i) each river basin contains a monophyletic group of mtDNA lineages; and (ii) the branching order places Magdalena in a basal position with subsequent branching of Orinoco, Amazon and Paraná. The mitochondrial control region was sequenced for 26 P. lineatus (from the Paraná basin) and six other Prochilodus specimens from the Magdalena, Orinoco and Amazon. All 26 control region haplotypes were unique with sequence divergence ranging from 0.3 to 3.6%. The control region phylogeny is well resolved but phylogenetic structure is not associated with geography. For example, mtDNA haplotypes from the upper Paraná (Mogui Guassú) and the upper Bermejo, separated by at least 2600 km, have close genealogical ties. Phylogeographic analyses, including nested clade analysis, suggest high levels of gene flow within this basin.  相似文献

The data on infestation of 8 species of commercial fishes from Saya-de-Malya bank (the Indian Ocean) are presented. 43 helminth species were identified: 10 Monogenea species, 18 trematode, 7 cestode and 8 nematode species. The mature worms are observed to be related to a certain host, whereas the nematode and cestode larvae have wide specificity. High infestation degree by Anisakis larvae is found in fishes, especially in Carangidae. At the bank area fishes are found to be free from Acanthocephala while those Acanthocephala are found in fishes from other areas of the Indian Ocean which may be attributed to the specific diet at the Saya-de-Malya bank. On the whole the helminth fauna of fishes examined at the Saya-de-Malya bank does not demonstrate the endemic pattern. The most specific helminth species were found in some fish species.  相似文献

Morphological identification of tapeworm species at larval stages (procercoids and cysticercoids) is often difficult because few diagnostic characters are available. In the present study, a molecular approach (sequencing of partial 18S rDNA gene) was used to evaluate the genetic similarity between adult specimens of Cyathocephalus truncatus (Pallas, 1871) (Cestoda: Spathebothriidea) found in fish, its definitive host, and procercoids of the same species recovered from amphipod, Echinogammarus stammeri (Karaman, 1931). Furthermore, cestode cysticercoids of uncertain species were found in the amphipod's hemocoel. The sequences obtained from adults and procercoids were identical, and even very similar to those of C. truncatus available in GenBank, whereas the sequences obtained from cysticercoids differed significantly from those of adults and procercoids, indicating that these larvae belong to another species; later it was demonstrated that they were cysticercoids of Microsomacanthus pachycephala (Linstow, 1972), a cestode of the Hymenolepididae (Cyclophyllidea). The results of this investigation show that the comparison of nucleotide sequence data may avoid misclassification of developmental stages of parasites, which use the same intermediate host.  相似文献

The abundance, host relationships and microhabitat of Sclerocollum rubrimaris Schmidt & Paperna. 1978 (Rhadinorhynchidae: Gorgorhynchinae) were investigated in wild populations of the herbivorous rabbitfish ( Siganus spp.) from the Gulf of Eilat, northern Red Sea. Siganus rivulatus (Forsskål, 1775) and S. argenteus (Quoy & Gaimard, 1825), judging by the high infection prevalences, are the primary definite hosts, whereas S. luridus (Ruppell, 1828) was only rarely infected and thus regarded as an accessory host. Overdispersion of S. rubrimaris suprapopu-lations was greatest in S. rivulatus. Juvenile worms occurred year-round, but enhanced recruitment was evident in both host populations between February and July. A high parasite abundance observed during spring (March-May) was correlated with an extensive period of pre-spawning algal grazing by the host fish. In S. rivulatus , parasite abundance increased with increasing host size, whereas in S. argenteus it was highest in young hosts, and decreased in larger fish. The variability of infection patterns in the three rabbitfish species probably stems not only from parasite specificity but also from the different habitats, feeding habits and diet preferences. Sclerocollum rubrimaris has a restricted host range and is not known to infect other herbivorous coral reef fish. The main region of attachment of S. rubrimaris is the anterior 5–25% of the gut in both S. rivulatus and S. argenteus , and the mean position of immature worms is significantly more posterior than that of sexually mature individuals.  相似文献

Serrasalmus marginatus is a piranha species native from the lower Paraná River basin and has been invasive in the upper Paraná River basin since the 1980s. In piranhas, sounds of different species have different features. The aim of this study was to investigate if the sounds produced by this species could be used to distinguish two morphotypes: red- and yellow-eyed S. marginatus from the Araguari River (upper Paraná River basin). All the temporal and frequency features of the sounds were equivalent in both groups of eye colour; it corresponds to the species-specific signature described for S. marginatus. Nonetheless, the amplitude features were all statistically different between red- and yellow-eyed piranhas. Yellow-eyed specimens produced louder sounds. In different fish species, colour change in eyes can be due to the absence or the presence of a dominant allele. It can also be involved in social rank or during reproduction. Different hormones and neuropeptides can modulate vocal features. It is hypothesized that a mutation or different hormonal concentrations could explain both sound amplitude and eye colour playing a role in animal communication in S. marginatus.  相似文献

Two new species of Coronigoniella Young are described and illustrated: C. osborni, sp. n., from SE. and S. Brazil (Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and Paraná states), and C. formosa, sp. n., from central W. and SE. Brazil (Goiás and Minas Gerais states, and the Distrito Federal). The presence of a sclerotized plate from the abdominal sternum VIII is reported in females of Coronigoniella for the first time. Taxonomic and morphological notes are given for C. spinosa (Osborn) based on specimens from its type-locality in Mato Grosso State. Tettigonia ruficaput (Walker), a species from Colombia previously considered of uncertain taxonomic position, is transferred to Coronigoniella. Possible host plants of C. osborni, sp. n. are Coleus sp. (Lamiaceae), Symphytum sp. (Boraginaceae), and Vernonia sp. (Asteraceae). The genus Coronigoniella is newly recorded from Alagoas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Paraná, and São Paulo states, as well as from the Distrito Federal, Brazil. A map showing the known geographic distribution of the two new species is presented. The systematic position of two nippostrongyline nematodes described from Argentinean sigmodontine rodents is clarified. The first species, Hassalstrongylus multiovatus Suriano & Navone, 1992, parasitic in Akodon simulator Thomas from the province of Tucumán, was studied on the basis of type and voucher material. H. multiovatus is proposed as a junior synonym of Trichofreitasia lenti Sutton & Durette-Desset, 1991, a parasite described from Oligoryzomys flavescens (Waterhouse) in the province of Buenos Aires. The holotype and three of seven paratypes deposited as H. multiovatus were identified as T. lenti. One male paratype was identified as Guerrerostrongylus uruguayensis Sutton & Durette-Desset, 1991, a parasite described from O. flavescens in Uruguay. Three female paratypes were identified as Guerrerostrongylus sp. The second species, Stilestrongylus scapteromys Suriano & Navone, 1996, parasitic in Scapteromys aquaticus Thomas from the province of Buenos Aires, was studied on voucher material. Stilestrongylus scapteromys and Malvinema frederici Digiani, Sutton & Durette-Desset, 2003, the type-species of Malvinema Digiani, Sutton & Durette-Desset, 2003, were described from the same host and geographical region. As they are considered to refer to one and the same taxon, the new combination Malvinema scapteromys n. comb. is proposed for this species.  相似文献

In a study of the parasites of the deep-sea fish Mora moro (Risso) (Gadiformes: Moridae) off the Mediterranean coasts of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands (Spain), we were able to distinguish two morphs of specimens belonging to Lepidapedon Stafford, 1904 (Digenea: Lepidapedidae). This material is herein described and illustrated. Comparative sequence analyses using partial mitochondrial nad1 sequences revealed that the material assigned to one of these morphs can be considered conspecific with the material identified as Lepidapedon desclersae Bray & Gibson, 1995 from the same host. However, the published nad1 sequence for L. desclersae was generated from a specimen ex M. moro from the North East Atlantic. Examination of the voucher specimens associated with this sequence revealed that both the North East Atlantic and the Mediterranean specimens ex M. moro differ from L. desclersae as described from its type-host, Lepidion eques (Günther), in the anterior extent of the vitelline fields which is further posterior, reaching only to the posterior margin of the external seminal vesicle in L. desclersae, versus being at the mid-level of this organ and reaching the posterior margin of the ventral sucker. Therefore, we have tentatively assigned the material characterised here, both morphologically and molecularly as Lepidapedon sp. Acquisition of additional sequences for both nad1 mitochondrial and 28S rRNA genes of L. desclersae from material ex Lepidion spp. is required in order to determine whether the observed morphometric variation reflects host-related or inter-specific differences. The second morph of Lepidapedon from M. moro is described and distinguished on morphometric grounds, such as the position of the most anterior vitelline follicles, which reach to the anterior margin of the ventral sucker. Its identity is commented upon, but, in view of the fact that there were few specimens and no molecular data available, it is not named.  相似文献

In this study the fish assemblages of the silted Aguas Claras stream (AC) was compared with that of a reference, the S?o Carlos stream (SC), so as to identify potential fish indicators of integrity or degradation. Both streams, located about 5 km from one another, are part of the Upper Paraná river basin, Brazil, and present similar physiographical features. Twenty-one species were collected in AC (1,271 specimens) and 18 in SC (940 specimens). In AC, dominant species e.g., Corydoras aeneus (sandy pools), Serrapinnus notomelas, and Pyrrhulina australis (warm marginal shallow pools) were those favored by new microhabitats linked to siltation and removal of the riparian vegetation. Changes in the composition of the marginal vegetation resulted in dominance of species such as Hisonotus francirochai (marginal grasses). In SC the dominant species was Phalloceros caudimacultus, abundant in marginal shallow pools, and Trichomycterus diabolus. and Hypostomus nigromaculatus, exclusively riffle-dwelling species, which were absent in AC. Fish assemblage monitoring is recommended for use in riparian management programs in order to evaluate negative instream sedimentation effects.  相似文献

This study reports the length-weight relationships (LWR) for seven endemic fish species from streams in the Ivaí (Characidium heirmostigmata, Corydoras lacrimostigmata, Curculionichthys oliveirai, Hisonotus pachysarkos, and Cambeva horacioi) and Ivaí and Piquiri (Apareiodon vladii and Planaltina kaingang) River basins, Paraná State, Brazil. Fish specimens measured and weighed were collected between November 1994 and July 2019, fixed with 10% formalin, and are preserved in 70% alcohol. Measurements were done for standard length (SL—0.1 cm precision) and total weight (TW—0.01 g precision). All coefficient of allometry obtained is within the general range for fishes representing useful tentatives for LWR parameters. We highlight the importance of information about the biology of the endemic fish species in a crucial area for the biodiversity conservation of the Upper Paraná River system.  相似文献
