Comparative size and composition of yield from six Fijian reef fisheries   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The size and composition of finfish yield from six Fijian reef fisheries was determined using catch records from a voluntary logbook scheme. A total of 172 logbooks were issued for 30-day periods in October 1992 and February and June 1993 and they provided information on 1369 fishing trips. Catch records were weighted, using the results of contemporaneous fishing activity and fleet size surveys, to provide yield estimates for each fishing ground ( qoliqoli ). Yield from all qoliqoli was dominated by Serranidae and Lethrinidae which were favoured for consumption and sale. Yields were expressed on the basis of reef area for fish from different trophic groups. Macroinvertebrate-feeders and piscivores accounted for more than half the yield in all qoliqoli and there were significant differences in area specific yield between qoliqoli. There was no evidence of fishers adopting more powerful fishing techniques or catching fish from lower trophic levels in order to maintain yield from any qoliqoli. This suggested that the fisheries examined were all capable of sustaining the reported yields of up to 3.4 tonne km−2 qoliqoli year −1 or 10.2 tonne km−2 coral reef year −1 and that in sites where yields were less they might be increased sustainably.  相似文献

The fisheries of floodplain river systems in Africa, South America and Asia are similar and their yields can be estimated from various morphological, edaphic and other parameters. There is a close similarity in the ichthyofauna of these regions enabling comparisons between systems to be made. The native fauna of New Guinea (Australasia) is devoid of the primary freshwater fishes that compose the majority of the catch from other regions. Various estimates suggest that the present yield of the Sepik River fishery is about 3000–5000 t year−1 This is approximately 10% of the yield of 30 000–45 000 t year−1 predicted by comparison with African rivers. Much of the present catch is introduced tilapia. Considering the native fish species alone, the present yield is only about 5–7% of that predicted. Fishing effort in the Sepik may be low by comparison with African rivers but the faunal difference is probably the main factor involved. This low yield still represents one of the largest and most important fisheries in the country. Such yeild estimates, even if only rough approximations, are vital for planning and management decisions.  相似文献

Spatio-temporal variations in the structure, density, biomass and production rates of fish were assessed in the neotropical River Ubatiba (Serra do Mar, southeast Brazil). Electrofishing techniques and the length-frequency method were shown to be reliable for the assessment of (ish numbers and production rates in these running waters of medium conductivity. Eighteen fish species of small size and prolonged spawning period were broadly distributed throughout the river catchment. Over the year, the assemblage structure was persistent along the river. Water column omnivore and algae/detritivore species dominated in density (15086-70330 ind. ha−1), whereas three omnivores and a piscivorous species accounted for 70% of the production (51.5-250.4 kg ha−1 yr−1). Comparison of production rates among, tropical, temperate and Mediterranean stream fish assemblages indicate lower rates in tropical streams and an inverse relationship between production and species diversity, lower production rates in high-diversity tropical streams vs higher rates in low-diversity Mediterranean streams, with intermediate rates in temperate streams of intermediate diversity.  相似文献

The Jordan reservoir, Czechoslovakia, was constructed in 1492 and the last full drainage and fish removal was in 1830. In this 'mature' fish community of 20 species (plus three hybrids), the roach, Rutilus rutilus (L.) (1446 fish ha–1) and beam, Abramis brama (L.) (1074 fish ha–1) dominated the fish stock (total of all species = 3628 fish ha–1). Predatory species made a small contribution to the total (maximum 7.7%, obligatory predators 2%). The contribution (12%) by perch, Perca fluviatilis L., was also low, and its numbers in successive age-groups showed a steady decrease. The high variability and time-synchronization in the year-class strengths of the principal cyprinid species may indicate unstable environmental conditions or intra-community cycles. The growth rates of non-predatory species were low. There was a high fishing rate on predatory species but there was little impact by fishery management on the whole 'mature' community. Intensive eutrophication from both communal waters and agriculture probably caused the high biomass level (all species) and the low abundance of zander, Stizostedion lucioperca (L.).  相似文献

The structure of coral reef habitat has a pronounced influence on the diversity, composition and abundance of reef-associated fishes. However, the particular features of the habitat that are most critical are not always known. Coral habitats can vary in many characteristics, notably live coral cover, topographic complexity and coral diversity, but the relative effects of these habitat characteristics are often not distinguished. Here, we investigate the strength of the relationships between these habitat features and local fish diversity, abundance and community structure in the lagoon of Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef. In a spatial comparison using sixty-six 2m2 quadrats, fish species richness, total abundance and community structure were examined in relation to a wide range of habitat variables, including topographic complexity, habitat diversity, coral diversity, coral species richness, hard coral cover, branching coral cover and the cover of corymbose corals. Fish species richness and total abundance were strongly associated with coral species richness and cover, but only weakly associated with topographic complexity. Regression tree analysis showed that coral species richness accounted for most of the variation in fish species richness (63.6%), while hard coral cover explained more variation in total fish abundance (17.4%), than any other variable. In contrast, topographic complexity accounted for little spatial variation in reef fish assemblages. In degrading coral reef environments, the potential effects of loss of coral cover and topographic complexity are often emphasized, but these findings suggest that reduced coral biodiversity may ultimately have an equal, or greater, impact on reef-associated fish communities.  相似文献

In ten experiments on commercial sugar-beet crops grown on organic soils in 1984–86, a Genstat programme was used to examine the relationship between the initial population of Heterodera schachtii and sugar-beet root yield using the equation

Fixing T = 200 eggs + juveniles 100 g-1 soil and ZT= 0.95, estimated values of Ymax varied from 49.2–67.1 t ha-1 (129– 155% of the national average root yield for the years in which the experiments were carried out) and estimates of Ymin varied from 14.5–53.9 t ha-1 (27–94% of Ymax). During this study, anglers caught over 580 kg of fish, comprising over 29 500 individuals of 14 species. Nine times as many gudgeon, Gobio gobio , as roach, Rutilus rutilus , were caught. Gudgeon represented 35.94% of the total catch weight compared with 44.64% for roach. The mean total catch per man-hour was 8.9 fish and the mean catch rate was 176 g per man-hour. Population estimates for fish longer than 12 cm for all species other than gudgeon and bleak, Alburnus alburnus , gave fish densities of 0.21 fish m−2, the roach population was 0.15 m−2, and that for dace Leuciscus leuciscus , 0.02 m−2. The population density for all sizes of all species caught was estimated to be 2.25 fish m−2.
The fish biomass available to the angler was 447 kg ha−2. The rate of exploitation of the fishery over the period of sampling was high at 17%, representing an annual exploitation rate of 94%.  相似文献

为更好地保护和管理西沙永兴岛附近海域珊瑚礁鱼类,于2020—2021年对永兴岛上岸渔获物进行了调查研究,分析了鱼类群落结构组成及其变化和演替特征。结果表明:调查共发现永兴岛附近海域珊瑚礁鱼类101种,隶属于5目21科,以鲈形目鱼类最多,占总种类的84.16%,生物量超总渔获物的90%;科级水平鹦嘴鱼科鱼类最多,达21种,生物量超总渔获物的45%。28种珊瑚礁鱼类是永兴岛附近海域主要捕捞对象,占总渔获物的80%以上。永兴岛附近海域珊瑚礁鱼类呈现过度捕捞,一是主要渔获物中的中大型鱼类均重偏小;二是本海域个体体型最大的鱼类出现较多消亡;三是肉食性鱼类大量消亡;四是植食性鱼类生物量占比超过了肉食性鱼类。永兴岛附近海域珊瑚礁鱼类已经演替到以植食性鱼类为主导的生态系统;大量海胆的出现,表明了这一珊瑚礁生态系统在进一步衰退,向以海胆为主导的生态系统演变。保护西沙永兴岛附近海域珊瑚礁鱼类已经刻不容缓,需要严格地控制本海域的捕捞强度。  相似文献

Sixty-four post-larvae of the King George whiting Sillaginodes punctata were tested in swimming chambers, against one of five flow-through velocities (2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 cm s −1) for up to a maximum of 120 min. Fish were determined by regression to have an FV50 (50% fatigue velocity) of 6.0 cm s−1. No fish survived the full 120 min at 10 cm s−1. Sixteen individuals were tested in a swimming chamber against a flow-through velocity of 6 cm s −1 and allowed to swim to exhaustion. Fish swam between 25 and 538 min with a peak at c . 6–8 h. Total swimming time was not correlated with standard length of fish although the size range examined was narrow. Relative to recent studies on the swimming abilities of late-stage larvae of reef fishes, this study indicates that post-larval King George whiting are weak swimmers. The weak swimming ability of post-larval King George whiting is consistent with studies showing passive dispersal and recruitment of this species.  相似文献

Patterns of oxygen consumption, ammonia and urea excretion were monitored during late embryogenesis, i.e. 5 days before mass hatching and 12 days during the free-swimming stage of whitefish larvae, Coregonus lavaretus. Oxygen consumption increased from 1.31 to 2.53 mgO2 h−1× 103 eggs−1 at hatching. Fasted, free-swimming larvae showed increasing oxygen consumption to the tenth day after hatching when it reached 5.52 mgO2h−1× 103 larvae−1. Ammonia and urea excretion increased during pre-hatching period from 52.1 to 163.2 and 26.8 to 51.4 μgh−1× 103 eggs−1, respectively. The nitrogen excretion rate increased between the sixth and tenth day of fasting, i.e. for ammonia from 117.7 to 160.9 and for urea from 35.8 to 52.5 μg h−1× 103 larvae−1. Cumulative data on nitrogen and energy metabolism indicated that during late embryogenesis, and up to the fifth day after hatching, protein dominated in the energy expenditure. During the free swimming stage, the ratio of fat to protein in energy expenditure rose from 0.86 to 1.99. Combined data for several fish species indicated high dependance of oxygen uptake during the hatching period on egg size and temperature.  相似文献

H. SUGITA, J. KAWASAKI, J. KUMAZAWA AND Y. DEGUCHI. 1996. The amylase-producing ability of intestinal bacteria in one marine crab and seven fish species was determined. Mean total viable counts ranged from 1.3 × 105 to 1.5 × 108 cfu g−1, and Vibrionaceae were predominant in all specimens. Of 1585 strains examined, 341 (21.5%) produced ≥0.01 U amylase ml−1. Percentage of producers (≥0.01 U ml−1) differed among genera/families. High abilities (≥0.05 U ml−1) were found in 1.4-3.6% of Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas and Vibrionaceae strains. On the other hand, percentage of producers varied with animal species. These results reveal that the amylase producers were widely distributed in the digestive tracts of coastal animals including crabs and fish, irrespective of their food habitats.  相似文献

At Heron Island reef, Great Barrier Reef Australia, biomass densities and mean wet mass of Ward's damselfish Pomacentrus wardi and the jewelled blenny Salarias fasciatus were not significantly different at 2·37 v . 2·95 g m−2 and 8·7 v . 7·9 g, respectively. Whereas S. fasciatus significantly exceeded P. wardi in (1) total number of bites per day (3427 v . 1155), (2) the mass of epilithic algal community consumed per bite (2·19 v . 0·14 mg) and (3) total organic carbon consumed per day (487·31 v . 35·46 mg C m−2 day−1). Territorial behaviour differed also between the two species. Pomacentrus wardi chased from their territories a smaller proportion of blennies than roving grazers ( i.e . scarids, acanthurids, siganids and pomacentrids) relative to S. fasciatus . Salarias fasciatus chased c . 90% of other blennies from their territories, while chasing only c . 20% of all damsels that entered. Both P. wardi and S. fasciatus rarely chased non‐grazers. The chasing behaviour of S. fasciatus was size dependent, with resident fish chasing only individuals of its own family ( i.e . Blenniidae) that were the same or smaller size. Pomacentrus wardi may have tolerated S. fasciatus grazing within its territory, as it contributes to territory defence from other blennies. The possibility that the interaction between the two species is facilitative, rather than competitive, is discussed. It was concluded that salariine blennies play an important, and previously underestimated role in coral reef trophodynamics.  相似文献

Annual ingestion and body growth have been estimated for average-sized adult (mean s.l. 62.7 mm) jewel damselfish. Plectroglyphidodon lacrymatus (Quoy et Gaimard), on a shallow fringing reef of southern Papua New Guinea. Mean ingestion (calculated from daily algal-food consumption in winter, the relationship between water temperature and feeding activity, and C, N and P contents of algal food) was 304.3gC year, 20.4gN year−1 and 3.5gP year−1 for this herbivorous fish. Mean body-growth rates for the fish were 5.7 mm year−1, from SEM analysis of sagittal-otolith microstructure, and 6.2 mm year−1 from a mark-release-recapture study in the wild. Based on C and N analyses of whole fish and the dry-weight/s.L. relationship, the gross growth efficiency of these fish was 0.2% for C and 0.5% for N. These very low efficiencies indicate that although P. lacrymatus ingests and absorbs a high proportion of algal production in its territory, only a small part of the assimilation goes into body growth and is thus potentially available to piscivorous fish higher in the food-chain.  相似文献

The von Bertalanffy growth parameters for common wolf–fish Anarhichas lupus in the North Sea were: male: L ∞=111·2 cm, t 0=–0·43 and K =0·12; and female: L ∞=115·1 cm, t 0=–0·39 and K =0·11, making this the fastest growing stock reported. Resting metabolic rates (RMR±S.E.) and maximum metabolic rates (MMR±S.E.) for six adult common wolf–fish (mean weight, 1·39 kg) at 5° C were 12·18±1·6 mg O2 kg–1 h–1 and 70·65±7·63 mg O2 kg–1 h–1 respectively, and at 10° C were 25·43±1·31 mg O2 kg–1 h–1 and 113·84±16·26 mg O2 kg–1 h–1. Absolute metabolic scope was 53% greater at 10° C than at 5° C. The diet was dominated by Decapoda (39% overall by relative occurrence), Bivalvia (20%) and Gastropoda (12%). Sea urchins, typically of low energy value, occupied only 7% of the diet. The fast growth probably resulted from summer temperatures approximating to the optimum for food processing and growth, but may have been influenced by diet, and reduced competition following high fishing intensity.  相似文献

The effects of water hardness (9 and 220 mgl−1 as CaCO3) upon zinc exchange in brown trout exposed to 0.77 μmol Zn 1−1 have been investigated using artificial soft water (<49.9 μmol Ca l-1, <40.1 μmol Mg 1−1) and mains hard water (1671.7 μmol Ca 1−1, 493.6 μmol Mg 1−1) of known composition. Both hard and soft water-adapted fish exhibited a bimodal pattern of net zinc influx. Net zinc influxes during both fast and slow uptake phases were significantly greater ( P <0.001) in soft (82.9 and 6.2 μmol Zn 100 g−1 h−1) than in hard water (46.3 and 2.4 μmol Zn 100 g h−1). Zinc efflux (- 0.2 μmol Zn 100 g−1 h−1) was enhanced only in hard water during the slow net influx phase.
Brown trout exposed to zinc in hard water and placed in metal-free media exhibited a greater net efflux (- 25.6 μmol Zn 100 g−1 h−1) of the metal than did fish in soft water (-4.2 μmol Zn 100 g−1 h−1) treated in the same manner. Tissue 65Zn activities reflected both the differences in uptake and excretion rates of the metal between hard and soft water fish. During zinc exposure (0.77 μmol Zn 1−1) high water hardness reduced tissue burdens of the metal by reducing net branchial influx, and enhancing efflux of the metal in hard water fish.  相似文献

Abstract Electrofusion between cells of yeast strains with different genetic markers in isotonic sorbitol solutions leads to high yields of hybrids when 0.1 mM Ca2+ and 0.5 mM Mg2+ salts are aded. On average, 1000–2000 hybrids are obtained when electrofusion is performed (in a helical chamber) compared to a yield of about 40–120 in the absence of these bivalent cations. A further increase in yield can be achieved by the addition of 1 mg/ml albumin, which results in up to 4000 hybrids per experimental run. The entire fusion process leads to very reproducible results in the presence of these substances.  相似文献

The amylase-producing ability of the intestinal microflora in cultured specimens of ayu, carp, channel catfish, Japanese eel and tilapia was determined. Mean viable counts of aerobes and anaerobes ranged from 1·1×106 to 3·7×108 cfu g−1 and from 1·3×103 to 1·6×108 cfu g−1, respectively. Aeromonas spp. and Bacteroidaceae were predominant in four to five fish species. Of 206 strains examined, 65 (31·6%) produced ≥0·01 U amylase ml−1. The percentage of producers differed among families and genera of bacteria and fish species. While 56% of the anaerobes produced amylase, only 20% of the aerobes did. More than 50% of Aeromonas , Bacteroidaceae and Clostridium strains produced amylase efficiently while Acinetobacter , coryneforms, Enterobacteriaceae, Moraxella , Plesiomonas and Streptococcus strains did not. High amylase production (≥0·05 U ml−1) was found in 12 strains, 11 from Aeromonas and one Pseudomonas . The percentage of high amylase producers in Japanese eel was lower than the other four fish (2–30%). These results strongly suggest that the amylase produced by the intestinal microflora play an important role in the digestion of starch in freshwater fish to some extent.  相似文献

The tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum , is the most important fish landed at Manaus by the fishery in the Amazonas State, Brazil. Population parameters have been estimated for this stock, which are: L∞= 107·3 cm ( t.l. ), W∞=32 kg, AT=0·227 year-1, M=0·45 year-1. A yield per recruit analysis shows that the stock is underexploited for values of M bigger than 0·30 year-1.  相似文献

Sprafelloides grarilis (Temminck & Schlegel), S. delirarulus (Bennett) and S. lewisi (Wongratana) live generally less than 4 months. They lived more than 5 months at only three of 10 sites sampled. Growth varied seasonally in S. grocilis (Temminck & Schlegel) at two sites in the Solomon Islands and in S. clelicululus (Bennett) at Helix Reef, near Townsville, Australia. This variation in the growth rate of S. grucilis could not be related to specific environmental patterns, but that of S. delicurulus at Townsville might be temperature-related. Instantaneous growth rates for all species were 0.4-1.7 mm day -1 at an age of I month and the range of variation in growth rate was similar for all species. These rates declined to 0.1 mm day -1 at 3 months of age, which is the rate reported for other short-lived clupeoids at the same age. The growth rates of fish from coral atoll and coastal lagoons were similar but barrier reef fish grew significantly faster. These results indicate that Sprarelloides have an extremely flexible growth pattern and that biological variation within a site can be as great as variation between sites.  相似文献

Home range size and shape, and within home range movement patterns were determined from 10 adult graysby Cephalopholis cruentata implanted with acoustic transmitters on two reefs within the Soufriere Marine Management Area, St Lucia. The mean home range area was 2120 m2(range 1200 to 4000 m2) and non‐circular in shape. All fish demonstrated a clear preference for a specific area in their home range where, on average, 72·9% of an individuals position were located. Time spent in this favoured area was correlated with reef complexity. Fish with greater activity and displacement possessed a larger home range. Activity and displacement were higher by night than by day, and consistent with this, fish spent less time in the preferred area of their home range by night than by day. Tagged individuals demonstrated a strong tendency to avoid sand habitat present at reserve boundaries.  相似文献
