THE MANTLE AND SHELL OF SOLEMYA PARKINSONI (PROTOBRANCHIA: BIVALVIA)   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The shell of Solemya exhibits considerable flexibility which is further enhanced by the marked extension of the periostracum beyond the calcareous portions of the valves. This fcature, more than any other, has made possible the habit, unique among bivalves, of burrowing deep within the substrate without direct contact with the water above. The inner calcareous layer of tho valves is restricted to a small area near the umbones while the outer calcareous layer is thin and contains a high proportion of organic material. The shell conchiolin consists mainly of protein, varying in composition, but much of it strengthcned by quinone-tanning, and in ccrtain regions probably by the presence of appreciable quantities of chitin. The ligament, although superficially resembling an amphidetic structure, is opisthodetic, the extcnsion anterior to the umbones consisting of anterior outer layer only.
The mantle is characterized by an extension of the outer fold of the mantle margin which has effected equally both the inner and outer surfaces of this fold. The secretory epithelium and the modified pallial musculature, contraction of which results in the intucking and plaiting of the periostracum, is dcscribed. Simple tubular oil glands open at the mantlo margin and are responsible for the water-repellent nature of the periostracum.
The form of the mantlelshell and that of the enclosed body are discussed and compared with those of other bivalves in which elongation of the mantle/shell is achieved in a different way. It is concluded that the mantlelshell of Solemya is of little value in determining its relationships, and that the greatly elongatod ligament, the edentulous hinge and the flexible shell are all adaptations to a specialized mode of life.  相似文献

Callocardia hungerfordi (Veneridae: Pitarinae) lives in subtidalmuds (220 to 240m C.D.) and is covered by a dense mat of mudthat, effectively, camouflages the shell. The periostracum is two layered. The inner layer is thick andpleated, the outer thin and perforated. From the outer surfaceof the inner layer develop numerous, delicate (0.5 mm in diameter),calcified, periostracal needles. These penetrate the outer periostracum.Mucus produced from sub-epithelial glands in the inner surfaceof the mantle, slides over the cuticle-covered epithelium ofthe inner and outer surfaces of the inner fold and the innersurface of the middle mantle fold to coat the outer surfaceof the periostracum and its calcified needles. Increased productionat some times produces solidified strands of mucus which bindmud and detrital material into their fabric to create the shellcamouflage. Calcified periostracal needles have been identified in othervenerids, including some members of the Pitarinae, but how theyare secreted and how the covering they attract is producedand, thus, how the whole structure functions, has not been explained. 首次报道了在立体显微镜及扫描电子显微镜下对莎草属(Cyperus Linn.)14种、2变种植物果皮微形态特征的观察结果。根据纹饰特点的不同,可分为三种类型:(1)网——瘤状复合纹饰;(2)网状纹饰;(3)疣状纹饰。莎草属植物在果皮微形态特征上存在的种间差异可为种的划分提供依据,并为探讨该属的系统演化提供有价值的资料。  相似文献

应用扫描电镜对红豆杉科、三尖杉科和罗汉松科植物假种皮的微形态特征进行了研究,结果表明:可以把红豆杉科植物分为两类,即具规则型网状纹饰的红豆杉属和具无规则型网状纹饰的白豆杉属、穗花杉属和榧树属。在后三属中,穗花杉属的穗花杉和白豆杉属的纹饰特征更为相近,同属厚网脊亚型。而云南穗花杉和榧树属的特征相近,属薄网脊亚型。假种皮表面纹饰特征显示不宜将红豆杉(T.chinensis)再分为两个独立的种,认为设立红豆杉和变种南方红豆杉(T.chinensisvar.mairei)的处理方式更加合理。三尖杉科(属)蓖子三尖杉(C.oliveri)假种皮纹饰的网脊、网底分化程度、细胞大小、单位面积细胞数和本届的其它植物差异很大,为建立蓖子三尖杉组提供了进一步的佐证。假种皮的微形态特征还支持把宽叶粗榧(C.sinensisvar.latifolia)上升为种C.latifolia的观点。罗汉松科假种皮纹饰类型的观察结果表明罗汉松属和陆均松属是自然分类群。尽管罗汉松属竹相组假种皮纹饰的网脊变异范围相对较大,但是变异范围仍在属内,不支持将其独立为新科的观点。假种皮的表面纹饰特征还表明三尖杉科和红豆杉科之间的联系密切。  相似文献

Lignification characteristics of 14 species of Lemnaceae were studied by the alkaline oxidation technique in an attempt to resolve conflicting reports of the presence of lignin and to provide chemotaxonomic data for supplementing previous systematic treatments. Four species of Spirodela, eight of Lemna, Wolffiella oblonga, and Wolffia microscopica were clonally subcultured, homogenized, exhaustively extracted and the insoluble residue oxidized in alkaline cupric hydroxide. Barley (Hordeum vulgare), Elodea densa and Spirogyra sp. were examined to validate the technique. The benzaldehydes were extracted, separated by thin-layer chromatography, and quantitated spectrophotometrically. Recovery of syringaldehyde, vanillin, and to a lesser extent p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, was accepted as evidence that these plants are lignified. The highest yields of syringaldehyde and vanillin were recovered from S. intermedia, the largest member of the Lemnaceae. Lesser amounts were obtained from S. polyrhiza and S. oligorhiza. Spirodela biperforata yielded no syringaldehyde which substantiates its distinctiveness from the morphologically similar S. polyrhiza. All Lemna species are nerved, yet vanillin (but not syringaldehyde) was recovered only from L. trinervis, L. perpusilla, L. minor, and L. minima. The species L. trisulca, L. gibba, L. obscura, and L. valdiviano yielded only p-hydroxybenzaldehyde. Thus the presence of nerves is not evidence for lignification within the genus Lemna, and the relationships suggested by their gross morphology are not supported by their lignin chemistry. Wolffiella is non-lignified by these criteria. Wolffia microscopica is the smallest flowernig plant and it has no nerves; vanillin was unexpectedly recovered and microscopic examination showed highly lignified anther walls.  相似文献

兜被兰属Neottianthe全世界共约12种,中国均有分布,其中9种为我国所特有。本属花粉形态 和组成都很特殊,它是由许多单粒花粉粘结在一起形成复合花粉——花粉小块,其形状一般为狭长的三 棱锥体形。外壁表面具5种纹饰类型:(A)近光滑,或具十分微弱的小凹陷;(B)外壁具穿孔状纹饰; (c)外壁具沟渠状纹饰;(D)外壁具拟网状纹饰;(E)具典型的网状纹饰。奉属有些种类,例如:N.cal- cicola,N.monophylla,N.pseudo-diphylax和N.cucullata等4种在分类上还存在许多问题,有些分类 学家把N.calcicola,N.monophylla,N.pseudo-diphylax 3种均归并于N.cucullata。孢粉学资料表 明上述4个种花粉特征完全不同,因此,上述4种仍应各自独立为种。最后,强调指出N.camptoceras的花粉形状和外壁纹饰等特征在本属为特殊类型。  相似文献

本文对山茶属(Camellia L.)18个组27个代表种的花粉进行了光学显微镜、扫描电镜和大部分进行了透射电镜的观察,并对花粉大小、形状、外壁纹饰和超微结构等作了综合的比较。结果表明,其形状和大小差异不很明显。花粉壁的层次、厚度和不同层次的比例,如复盖层与柱状层以及外壁外层与外壁内层的比例等也没有显著的差异。但花粉壁的纹饰特征在扫描电镜下显示出较大的差异,具有较重要的分类学价值。根据其纹饰特征,可以把山茶属花粉大致区分为六个类型:皱疣状纹饰;粗瘤状纹饰;颗粒状至皱-颗粒状纹饰;穴-网状纹饰;皱沟状纹饰及皱波-念珠状纹饰。孢粉学上区分的类型不完全与各个学者从植物形态上划分的组相一致。其中管蕊茶 Camellia lanceolata的纹饰非常特殊(粗瘤状),其外壁表面很象牛心果(Annona reticulata)的外形特征,为其重新分类提供孢粉学依据。  相似文献

Using scanning electron and histological techniques on specimensof the bivalve Corbicula fluminea a new relationship betweenmantle, shell and periostracum has been observed, apparentlyfor the first time. Here we demonstrate that several extensionsof the mantle epithelium pierce the shell to join the innerlayer of the two-layered periostracum. The mantle extensionsare confirmed as unicellular processes. We suggest that theycould serve the animal in the mobilization of calcium from theshell for buffering the extrapalhal fluid under anaerobic conditions,when organic acids accumulate or when an extra contributionof Ca2+ is required (Received 5 January 1994; accepted 30 March 1994)  相似文献

The genus Cordyhmthus has considerable diversity in its inflorescences while the other genera of tribe Rhinantheae (Scrophulariaceae) uniformly have racemes or spikes. Four distinct inflorescence types are recognized and their homologies and evolutionary history are postulated. Thus it is suggested that the basic florescence type, the elongated spike (Type I), has undergone evolutionary reduction to a few-flowered spike and ultimately to a single-flowered florescence (Type II). Further evolution involving processes of compaction and clustering of the single-flowered florescences has resulted in glomerulate clusters (Type III) and spiciform clusters (Type IV). Knowledge of inflorescence homologies and distribution of the four inflorescence types in the genus has been of considerable aid in formulating a new infrageneric classification. Using evidence primarily from inflorescence, floral, and seed morphology, as well as from geographical distribution and ecology, a classification is proposed establishing three subgenera, namely subg. Dicranostegia, subg. Hemistegia, and subg. Cordylanthus, the last with three sections, sect. Cordylanthus, sect. Anisocheila, and sect. Ramosi.  相似文献

研究了国产菊科千里光族款冬亚族及其相关类群 1 1属 1 5种植物的花粉超薄结构。研究类群的花粉超薄结构可分为 2类 :“千里光型”和“向日葵型”。多榔菊属、大吴风草属和毛冠菊属为“向日葵型”,其余种类均为“千里光型”。根据花粉超薄结构类型 ,结合其它有关方面的研究 ,认为大吴风草属与橐吾属并不近缘 ,而毛冠菊属可能接近于紫菀族。  相似文献

The general organography, vascular organization, and leaf and bud development in Davallia solida and D. trichomanoides are described. These epiphytic species have creeping shoots with dorsally-borne leaves in a distichous phyllotaxis and the buds occur near each leaf base. Roots are borne on the ventral and flanking surfaces of the rhizome, but only at bud positions. The vascular pattern of these species is a perforated solenostele. Leaf and bud traces have distinctly different origins. While the proximity of buds to leaves has suggested that bud origin is axillary, observations show that the origin of buds is cauline and that their position is extra-axillary from inception. The stages of structural morphogenesis in Davallia buds differ significantly from the scheme proposed by Wardlaw. The principal difference is the absence of a resting period occurring between the origin and continued development of buds in Davallia. The elongated internodes which separate leaf-bud pairs from one another, the topographically distinct and predictable positions of leaves and buds, the structural equivalence of unexpanded buds, and vascular differences in leaves and buds make Davallia an useful species for physiological studies of differential bud expansion.  相似文献

Shell shape and growth of two unionacean species, Villosa villosaand Elliptio icterina, are analyzed with univariate and multivariatetechniques. The relationship of shape variables to size variablesis examined. Under the lognormal assumption, parametric testsof these allometric relationships are valid. Variables describingthe ventro-posterior region of the shell are shown to be thebest of those tested for discriminating between the sexes ofboth species regardless of statistical method. Neither speciesexhibits size sexual dimorphism. Shape sexual dimorphism ofV. villosa is constant during adult growth, but the more subtledimorphism of E. icterina changes as adults continue to grow. 本文首次分析了特产我国的长苞铁杉亚属(Subgen. Paleotsuga)的代表种长苞铁杉Tsuga longibracteata的核型,它全由中部和近中部着丝粒染色体组成,核型公式为K(2n)=24=22m 2sm,属“lA”类型。第12号染色体具“长着丝点区域”。染色体相对长度组成为2n=12M_2 10M_1 2S。作者发现铁杉亚属(Subgen. Tsuga)植物的核型全为“2A”类型。胞核学资料支持对长苞铁杉亚属和铁杉亚属的划分并表明前者(长苞铁杉)较为原始。长苞铁杉应隶于长苞铁杉亚属、长苞铁杉组。  相似文献

The pollen morphology of 117 species and varieties of Mimulus was examined by light and scanning electron microscopy. Five major and 8 more tentative, minor types were found based on the differential correlation of aperture type, exine morphology, pollen grain diameter and other characters: type 1—synaperturate, usually ±spiraperturate, exine perforate to microreticulate with supratectal processes; type II—trocolporate, exine microreticulate (IIa and IIb, supratectal processes absent; IIa, mean polar axis 16–19 μm; IIb, mean polar axis 25–35 μrn; IIc, supratectal processes present); type III—tricolpate, colpus membrane ±psilate. exine with supratectal processes (IIIa, exine microreticulate and 1.4–2.0 μm thick, polar axis ≥ 30 μm; 111b, exine densely perforate and 2.2–2.8 μm thick, polar axis ≤ 23 μm); type IV—tricolpate, colpus covered with spinulose granules (operculate), exine microreticulate with supratectal processes; type V—5–7 stephanocolpate (Va and Vb, colpus margins ±straight and nongranular; Va, exine microreticulate with supratectal spinules; Vb, exine perforate with supratectal spinules or spinulose verrucae; Vc, colpus margins ragged and granular, exine microreticulate with supratectal processes). The pollen data correlate well with geographical and macromorphological data and, where the latter are ambiguous, often provide important clues toward the resolution of conflicting interpretations of infrageneric classification and generic delimitation.  相似文献

Anthochlors (chalcones and aurones) are found in a number of plant families including the Compositae. Within this family they were once thought to occur only in the subtribe Coreopsidinae of the tribe Heliantheae. More recent studies show them to occur also in the tribes Cardueae, Eupatorieae, Helineae, Inuleae, and Lactuceae. This has suggested that anthochlors are no longer good taxonomic markers for the Coreopsidinae. A survey of 69 of approximately 210 genera of the Heliantheae shows anthochlors present only in the Coreopsidinae except for Helianthus, Simsia, Tithonia, and Viguiera, closely related genera of the subtribe Helianthinae. Of the 32 genera of the Coreopsidinae recently recognized, 30 were surveyed from available material and all contain anthochlors except Guardiola and Venegasia. The results indicate that, despite some variation, anthochlors are still good taxonomic markers for the Coreopsidinae. This represents the only case within the family in which a particular type of flavonoid is taxonomically diagnostic at the subtribal level.  相似文献
