Vegetative propagation and vegetative dispersal of Oxalis cernua were studied. O. cernua is a bulbous dicotyledonous plant. The shoot of a grown plant is divided into two distinct parts: a vertical stem growing upwards and bearing the feeding roots, and a rootless horizontal thin stem. This last is pulled by means of a large contractile root and carries along with it a series of small buds, which form new bulbs at the end of the season. Several new bulbs are formed along the vertical shoot as well. Thus, the propagation bulbs of O. cernua disperse along two axes, which are at right angles to each other.  相似文献

As a result of our work on the Lycopodiaceae account for the Critical Flora of Italy, a new, synonymic inventory of Italian taxa is presented, based on herbarium studies and critical re-examination of extant literature. Three genera with eight species are accepted: Huperzia (1 species), Lycopodiella (1), and Lycopodium (6). An additional, ninth species (Lycopodiella cernua) is listed as a casual alien. The genus Diphasiastrum, accepted in several recent works, is treated at sectional level within Lycopodium (three species and their three hybrids). Lycopodium lagopus ( = L. clavatum subsp. monostachyon) is a recent addition to the Italian flora. Images of five types and Internet URI of other six types are supplied. Dot distribution maps and a dichotomous key to Italian species are provided. It is shown that the family name Urostachyaceae (a family here not separated from Lycopodiaceae) was validly published and has priority over Huperziaceae, for which the oldest name, however, would be Phylloglossaceae.  相似文献

By manipulation of various growth regulators and physical conditions,plants have been regenerated from excised roots, stem segments,cotyledons, leaves, and callus cultures of red cabbage (Brassicaoleracea var. capitata) grown under in vitro conditions. Shootbuds were induced on isolated root segments (1 cm long) culturedon Murashige and Skoog's medium and the frequency of bud formationwas greatly enhanced by the addition of kinetin (0.5 part 10–6).Callus obtained from the seeds, cotyledons, and hypocotyl segmentscultured on a medium fortified with 2,4-D (1 part 10–6),kinetin (0.1 part 10–6), and coconut milk (10%, v/v) hasbeen repeatedly subcultured. The callus is slow growing, andon transference to a kinetin (2 parts 10–6) and IAA (2parts 10–6) medium underwent morphogenesis to give riseto plants. Influence of Growth Regulators on Shoot Proliferation in Quercus suber L.   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Procedures have been developed to standardize the multiplicationstage during mature cork-oak (Quercus suber L.) micropropagation.Axillary and terminal buds were established on Gresshoff andDoy basal medium containing 1 mg I–1 of 6-benzylaminopurine(BAP). Initiation of cultures was possible all over the year.The effects of BAP, Z, IBA, 1AA and NAA and various nutrientformulae on shoot growth and proliferation was investigated.BAP was more suitable than zeatin. Shoot proliferation and elongationwere strongly improved by the combination BAP/IAA in the presenceof low salt media, like Gresshoff and Doy or Woody Plant medium.Both rates were significantly increased when a double-phaseculture system was used. Shoots have been multiplied for 1 yearat the rate of three to four-fold every 4 weeks without anydecline of vigour. Rooting was achieved by briefly dipping thebasal ends of in vitro regenerated shoots in an IBA concentratedsolution. The results here reported constitute a promising steptowards large scale in vitro propagation of a species in whichconventional vegetative propagation by cuttings is very difficult. In Lupinus shoots an electrical stimulus (d.c.) produces a potentialwave analogous to the action potential wave (AP) in stimulatedsimple plant cells or in nerves. The method used (Paszewskiand Zawadzki, 1973a, b) is similar to those applied in neurophysiologyin research on the excitability of nerves. In the present paper the strength-duration relation (Eqn. (1))of the excitation in Lupinusitalic has been used to calculatethe values of the rheobase, chronaxie, and useful time of pulse.The rheobase, as a threshold value of the stimulus, is examinedin terms of the applicability of the all-or-nothing law. The results suggest that the origin and propagation of AP inplants and in nerves may occur in a similar way. The analogybetween the impulse propagation in nerve trunks and in Lupinusshoots is discussed.  相似文献

The possibility has been investigated that abscisic acid (ABA)might act as a correlative inhibitor of lateral bud growth inPisum sativum and Phaseolus vulgaris. Application of ABA insmall quantities (2µg) to axillary buds on decapitatedplants of P. sativum caused appreciable inhibition of theirgrowth, and induced a compensatory growth of the bud on an adjacentnode. Application of this same quantity of ABA to axillary budson decapitated plants of Phaseolus vulgaris was without effect,but a high concentration in lanolin (1 mg g–1) did substantiallyreduce bud outgrowth. Endogenous ABA-like substances in Phaseolusvulgaris, detected by bioassay and electron capture g.l.c.,were present in similar concentrations in shoot tips, lateralbuds on intact plants and lateral buds on plants decapitated24 h earlier. The effects of applied ABA suggested that it might be involvedin the mechanism of correlative inhibition in Pisum sativum,but it was not possible to test this hypothesis by determiningendogenous ABA levels in axillary buds because of their smallsize. The evidence presented here suggests that ABA is not acorrelative inhibitor in Phaseolus vulgaris even though at highconcentration it can inhibit the growth of axillary buds.  相似文献

The causes of interspecific differences in the µ-l relationshipare examined in the context of a mechanistic model which relatesµ to irradiance in terms of six factors:, kc photosyntheticquotient (PQ), Chl a:C, respiration and excretion. The effectof cell size on the light saturated growth rate is also considered.It is shown that photosynthetic efficiency and PQ exhibit remarkablylittle interspecific variability, and average 0.024 ±0.005 µg C(µg Chl a)–1 h–1 (µEm–2 s–1)–1 and 1.5 ± 0.2 mol 02 molC–1 (when NO3 is the nitrogen source) respectively.Two useful relationships were derived: (i) between growth efficiency,g and Chl a:C at µ. = 0; (ii) between the compensationintensity, Ic and the Chl a-specific maintenance respirationrate. Both relationships were independent of temperature anddaylength. Species best adapted to growth at low light werefound to exhibit high Chl a:C ratios and low maintenance respirationrates. As a group, diatoms were consistently the best adaptedfor growth at low irradiance. Chiorophytes, haptophytes, chrysophytesand cryptophytes were intermediate in their performance at lowirradiance. Dinoflagellates exhibited extreme diversity, withspecies spanning the spectrum from very good performance atlow irradiance to very poor. A new µmax-cell carbon relationshipis given based on growth rates normalized to 15°C. Evidenceis presented to show that noise in this relationship can besignificantly reduced by using only carbon-specific growth ratesand using only data for species grown at the same daylength.  相似文献

Background and Aims: Bromeliads (Bromeliaceae) adapted to rock outcrops or ‘inselbergs’in neotropical rain forests have been identified as suitableplant models for studying population divergence and speciationduring continental plant radiations. Little is known about geneticrelationships and variation in reproductive strategies withinand among inselberg-adapted species, yet knowledge of theseparameters is important for understanding divergence processesand for conservation planning. Methods: Nuclear microsatellites were used to assess the role of clonalreproduction, estimate genetic diversity and explore geneticrelationships and variation in reproductive strategies for atotal of 15 populations of four closely related Alcantarea inselbergspecies in south-eastern Brazil: A. glaziouana, A. regina, A.geniculata and A. imperialis. Key Results: Clonal propagation is frequent in coastal populations of A.glaziouana and A. regina, but absent in the high-altitude speciesA. geniculata and A. imperialis. Considerable variation in clonaldiversity, gene diversity (He), allelic richness, and Wright'sinbreeding coefficient (FIS) exists within and between speciesof Alcantarea. A Bayesian analysis of coastal inselberg speciesindicated pronounced genetic structure. A neighbor-joining analysisgrouped populations of each species together with moderate bootstrapsupport, except for the high altitude species A. imperialis. Conclusions: The coastal inselberg species A. glaziouana and A. regina tendto propagate asexually via vegetative clonal growth, and bothreproductive strategies and breeding systems vary greatly betweenpopulations and species of Alcantarea. The microsatellite dataindicate a history of hybridization and reticulation involvingthe high-altitude species A. geniculata and A. imperialis inareas of co-occurrence. The results highlight the need to understandsimilarities and differences in reproductive strategies bothwithin and between related species for conservation planningand as a basis for understanding evolutionary processes in tropicalradiations.  相似文献

Near-isogenic lines have been produced in pea to examine theeffects of genes at the r and rb loci on the growth and developmentof the seed. The rb alleles were found to have an effect onthe growth of the testa as well as on that of the embryo incontrast to those at the r locus which only affect the latter.The relationship between the fresh and dry weights of the embryosof rb isoline and the double mutant differed from that of theround-seeded wild-type line. Seeds of the obligate parasitic plants, Orobanche spp., wereconditioned in water or GA3for 2 or 12 weeks and then stimulatedto germinate by the synthetic stimulant GR24. Temperature treatmentsduring the germination tests comprised 169 different constantand alternating temperature regimes on a two-dimensional gradientplate. Optimum temperatures for germination of seeds of O. aegyptiacaand O. crenata were 18–21 °C and 18 °C, respectively.However, longer conditioning periods slightly lowered the optimain both species, and the maximum germination percentage wasalso reduced due to an induction of secondary dormancy. At agiven mean temperature, more seeds germinated at constant thanat alternating temperatures. Results were analysed in termsof characteristics of alternating temperatures that appearedto control germination, i.e. mean temperature, maximum temperature,amplitude (difference between daily maximum and minimum temperatures)and thermoperiod (the time spent at the maximum temperatureeach day). Final germination was modelled on the basis of therebeing two prerequisites for germination: a minimum mean temperaturewhich must be exceeded and a maximum temperature above whichthe seed will not germinate. These two requirements were assumedto be independent and to be normally distributed in the seedpopulation so that final germination could be described by amultiplicative probability model. Because of the response tomaximum temperature, inhibitory effects were more evident atalternating temperatures. Amplitude and thermoperiod influencedthis effect of maximum temperature. The implications of thedetrimental effect of alternating temperatures for germinationofOrobanche spp. in the field are discussed. The impact of predators on population growth of Pseudocalanussp. was investigated in Dabob Bay, Washington. Mortality ofPseudocalanus sp. was determined from stage-specific survivorship,from seasonal changes in mortality rates of adult males andfemales and from incidence of injuries to adult copepods. Theprincipal predators of adult Pseudocalanus were identified asthe predatory copepod Euchaeta elongata, the omnivorous euphausiidEuphausia pacifica and the chaetognath Sagirta elegans. Predatorattack rates - and prey mortality rates - are highly density-dependentand thus sensitive to prey dispersion in the water column, particularlyto layering in the vertical plane. Predation rates by the threeprincipal predators exceeded 100% of the recruitment rate toadult Pseudocalanus sp. beginning in early summer, thus restrictingpopulation growth. Planktivorous fish predation (by adult three-spinestickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus, and juvenile chum salmon,Oncorhynchus keta) on Pseudocalanus sp. adults was estimatedto be two orders of magnitude lower than consumption rates bypredatory zooplankton, at a deep water station in July. Analysisof seasonal changes in prey ingested by Sagitta elegans revealedthat Pseudocalanus sp. was the major prey item of S. elegansin April (61.0% of prey) and in June (67.0% of prey), thereafterdeclining seasonally in importance. Predation by S. elegansvaried seasonally with changes in chaetognath stage structure,vertical distribution and diapause, not size structure alone.Although chaetognath recruitment and population growth appearto be directly coupled to the abundance of Pseudocalanus sp.,predation by S. elegans has little reciprocal impact on Pseudocalanussp. population growth; hence asymmetries may occur in the interaction of planktonic prey and predators.  相似文献

During the phase of exponential growth in chlorophyllous calluscultures derived from Haplopappus gracilis, Hypochaeris radicata,and Acer pseudoplatamus, cells double their number on the average,and also their volume, in about 4.3, 6.6, and 9–2 daysrespectively. The two rates decline subsequently but cell expansioncontinues for a short time after division has ceased. With culturesof Oxalis dispar, however, which have an average cell generationtime of about 10 days, there is first a short exponential phasedominated by division, and this is followed by a series of phasesdominated alternately by either division or expansion. Chlorophyll accumulation does not occur in Haplopappus duringthe exponential phase (chlorophyll a decreases) but there isa slow accumulation of caro-tenoids. The bulk of the pigmentsaccumulate during the declining phase of growth mainly afterdivision has ceased. With Hypochaeris and Acer, on the otherhand, accumulation is most intense during the exponential phase,and few pigments are added later. With Oxalis, most of the accumulationoccurs after the exponential phase; carotenoids accumulate untilthe cessation of growth whereas chlorophylls start to declinebefore this. With all species, pigments decline after the cessationof growth. The loss is small in Haplopappus and the tissuesare still bright green when the medium dries out: Hypochaerisand Oxalis, in contrast, eventually become colourless. The data are discussed in relation to the changes in pigmentcontent that accompany the growth and development of a singlecell in each species.  相似文献

A physiological analysis of crop growth, reported in the previouspapers in this series, is extended to deal with the growth ofspaced plants, and applied to the growth data for M. atropurpureumsubject to several successive cycles of water deficit. Differences in growth between stressed and unstressed plantscan be quantitatively attributed to a reduction in the photosyntheticactivity of the leaves of stressed plants induced by increasingtheir leaf water deficits, and to an increase in the rate ofleaf abscission by the stressed plants. An 18 months' growth analysis of three citrus rootstocks revealedconsiderable differences in absolute and relative growth-ratesand in the allometric growth of leaf, stem, thorn, and root. Over the whole period the order of the average absolute growth-rateswas citrange > sinensis > trifoliata, and of the relativegrowth-rates citrange > sinensis = trifoliata. Although sinensisachieved the highest R.G.R. this was maintained over a shortperiod only. Sinensis had relatively most leaf, trifoliata moststem, and citrange most root. The deciduousness of trifoliataproduced only an intermittent deviation in the allometric line,the leaf proportion returning to the average course within afew weeks of the start of spring growth. The time course of these changes was not sufficiently regularfor phases of maximum growth to be characterized. During thewinter period of minimum growth there was a loss in weight ofthe roots (in sinensis, and trifoliata) and stem (citrange).  相似文献

应用生命表技术,考察我国食蚜瘿蚊Aphidoletes aphidimyza大量扩繁系统主要环节的效率。结果表明,卵期、1龄幼虫期、蛹期的死亡率较大,分别为13.5%、18.2%和19.0%,是影响种群数量增长的主要因子。通过对各发育阶段的观察,初步明确了造成死亡的主要因素,连续多代饲养中的性比失调问题对卵的饱满率及产卵量有很大影响,化蛹的场所条件、发育及贮藏条件、1龄幼虫的食物供给状况也是造成实验种群大量死亡的主要因子。本实验结果为进一步改进该天敌的扩繁体系,提高扩繁效率,具有指导作用。  相似文献

The Florida Everglades is a subtropical wetland dominated byCladiumjamaicense(sawgrass), a native sedge that forms extensive, monospecificstands. Sawgrass exhibits several modes of reproduction, includingsexual (seed production) and asexual (rhizome propagation) types.In this study, the occurrence of vegetative proliferation onthe reproductive organs of sawgrass, a phenomenon otherwiseknown in arctic-alpine habitats, was observed. This is the firsttime that vegetative proliferation has been reported inCladium.Vegetative plantlets developed in the spikelets of the inflorescencebut also commonly at the lower nodes on the inflorescence. Thenumber of plantlets per inflorescence ranged from 400 to 4000.The plantlets differed in size from a few leaves to eight toten leaves of up to 70 mm in length. Although the nutrient concentrationof the seeds were greater than those of the plantlets, the totalcontent of P, N and C of the plantlets was twice that of theseeds owing to the greater weight of the plantlets. In spikeswith vegetative proliferation, the leafy shoot developed besidethe ovary, and seed formation did not occur. Usually, only oneplantlet developed in each flower, although more buds did formoccasionally within a single flower. Seed production, germination and plant growth form were studiedin several species of Veronica. The objectives were to comparethe reproductive strategies of annual and perennial speciesof Veronica which varied in their habitats and aggressivenessas weeds. ‘Reproductive effort’ was fairly similar for bothannuals and perennials, falling within the commonly observedrange for annual species. Seed number per capsule and the 100-seedweight were unaffected by the growth conditions but plant growthform was substantially modified in V. agrestis. The small-seeded Veronica species required light for germinationand the winter annual V. hederifolia germinated much more vigorouslyafter a low temperature treatment. The growth form, vigour andextent of adventitious root production and rapid seed germinationof V. persica must be significant factors in the spread andestablishment of this species. Cocksfoot (Dactylis glomerata L.). perennial ryegrass (Loliumperenne L.) and Italian ryegrass (L. multiflorum Lam.) plantswere grown on deep (75–95 cm) columns of soil in glasshousesand growth rooms with and without irrigation. The species inwhich growth declined least rapidly after water had been withheldwere those which transpired most slowly. During early establishmentin the glasshouse cocksfoot transpired least because of slowroot growth. In the growth room, when root systems were deeperand denser, perennial ryegrass transpired least because of lowleaf water conductance. Results are discussed in relation to(a) drought resistance in the three species; (b) breeding forincreased drought resistance through modifying root distributionand leaf water conductance; and (c) the use of isolated soilcolumns in water relations studies.
