Two nitrogen balance experiments in a 4 × 4 Latin square design were conducted to compare leaves of Grewia oppositifolia and Ziziphus mauritiana containing condensed tannins (CT) 0.08 g and 34.7 g per kg DM, respectively as supplement on feed intake, nutrients digestibility and nitrogen (N) retention in adult wethers and to examine the benefits of adding urea to Z. mauritiana leaves containing higher level of CT on N utilization in the animals. In experiment 1, the basal diet of oat hay was fed to sheep either un-supplemented or supplemented with 320 g dried leaves of Z. mauritiana or 320 g dried leaves of G. oppositifolia or 160 g dried leaves each of Z. mauritiana and G. oppositifolia. In vivo dry matter (DM) digestibility was not different among the four diets while N digestibility remained significantly lower (P<0.05) in Z. mauritiana supplemented diets. Daily intake of oat hay reduced (P<0.05) and that of total diet DM increased (P<0.001) with feeding of the leave supplements. Mean N retention on control diet was 4.39 g/d and increased to 7.51 g/d with inclusion of G. oppositifolia leaves but did not change with the other two supplements. In experiment 2, a basal diet of sorghum hay was fed ad libitum without any supplement (control diet) and the other three diets were supplemented with 320 g dried leaves of Z. mauritiana with no urea, 5 g urea/d or 10 g urea/d. Daily intake (g/d) of sorghum hay or total DM intake did not respond to inclusion of urea in the diets. Supplementation of Z. mauritiana with or without urea did not affect digestibility of DM, organic matter and acid detergent fiber. Nitrogen retention increased (P<0.05) from 0.57 g/d on control diet to 3.72 g/d with supplementation of Z. mauritiana leaves. Addition of urea 5 g/d did not further increase the N retention (4.78 g/d) but was significantly increased to 7.16 g/d in response to 10 g urea/d in the diet. It was concluded that response to urea feeding in the presence of tannin rich Z. mauritiana leaves was dose-dependant and that feeding 10 g urea/d increased the capacity of sheep to consume more feed and retain more N in the body.  相似文献

Oreochromis andersonii and O. macrochir are two important cichlid species native to Southern Africa. We describe in this paper their genetic population structure in the Upper Zambezi River, Kafue River, and Lake Bangweulu representing part of the Congo and Zambezi River Basins. Microsatellite genetic markers were employed to analyse the genetic population structure of the two species using 177 tissue samples. The average allele richness of O. andersonii was higher in the Zambezi River (10.500) than in the Kafue River (9.583) though not statistically different. For O. macrochir, it was highest in the Zambezi River (11.170) followed by the Kafue River (9.781) and least in Lake Bangweulu (7.067) and their differences were significant. The gene diversity indices; gene diversity (hs), observed heterozygosity (HO), expected heterozygosity (HE) were high and similar in O. andersonii populations. However, in O. macrochir HE was significantly lower in Lake Bangweulu (0.678) compared to the Kafue River (0.799) and Zambezi River (0.802) populations. Population differentiation estimated by RST and DEST revealed high differentiation in both species (RST = 0.598, DEST = 0.777 for O. andersonii; RST = 0.379, DEST = 0.710 for O. macrochir). The highest source of variation was among populations (84.71%) for O. andersonii and within populations (67.09%) for O. macrochir. Comparisons of population pairs revealed a close genetic similarity between the Zambezi River and Lake Bangweulu populations of O. macrochir. Bottlenecks were observed in both species using the Two-Phase Model (T.P.M.) indicative of a recent genetic loss or reduction in effective population size. Though our results indicate that the populations of both species still maintain sufficiently high levels of genetic diversity in the sampled areas, the bottlenecks observed are a source of concern. We recommend a more robust study of genetic diversity of these species in all sections of these river systems and that some key conservation sites should be identified to protect the gene pool of these native species.  相似文献

The tropical fruit tree, Ziziphus mauritiana (Rhamnaceae), a native of the Indian subcontinent, is a pasture and environmental weed in northern Australia and Fiji. In their native range, Ziziphus spp., including commercially cultivated Z. mauritiana and Z. jujuba, are subjected to a wide range of pests and diseases. The feasibility of classical biological control of this weed has not been explored to date. Effective biological control could reduce plant vigour and seed output, thereby limiting the spread of Z. mauritiana in Australia. Two Ziziphus species are native to Australia, hence, any prospective biological control agent should be specific to Z. mauritiana. Opportunistic field surveys and literature searches identified 133 species of phytophagous insects, 9 species of phytophagous mites and 12 plant pathogens on Ziziphus spp. Host records suggest the following are possibly specific to Z. mauritiana and hence are prospective biological control agents in Australia: the seed‐feeding weevil Aubeus himalayanus; the leaf‐feeding gracillariid moth Phyllonorycter iochrysis; the leaf‐mining chrysomelid beetle Platypria erinaceus; the leaf‐folding crambid moth Synclera univocalis; the leaf‐galling midge Phyllodiplosis jujubae; and the gall‐mites Aceria cernuus and Larvacarus transitans. Host range of the rust Phakopsora zizyphi‐vulgaris includes many Ziziphus species, including the native Z. oenoplia and hence would not be a suitable biological control agent in Australia. The powdery mildew Pseudoidium ziziphi, with a host range restricted to Ziziphus species, has not been reported on Z. oenoplia. All available information on the pests and diseases of Z. mauritiana are from cultivated varieties. Hence, future surveys should focus on wild Z. mauritiana in the Indian subcontinent in areas that are climatically similar to the regions of northern Australia, where it is currently most abundant.  相似文献

Investigations into the thermal physiology of weed biological control agents may elucidate reasons for establishment failure following release. Such studies have shown that the success of water hyacinth biological control in South Africa remains variable in the high‐lying interior Highveld region, because the control agents are restricted to establishment and development due to extreme winter conditions. To determine the importance of thermal physiology studies, both pre‐ and post‐release, this study compared the known thermal requirements of Eccritotarsus catarinensis (Carvalho) (Hemiptera: Miridae) released in 1996, with those of an agent released in 1990, Niphograpta albiguttalis (Warren) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) and a candidate agent, Megamelus scutellaris Berg (Hemiptera: Delphacidae), which is currently under consideration for release. The lower developmental threshold (to) and rate of development (K) were determined for N. albiguttalis and M. scutellaris, using a reduced axis regression, and incorporated into a degree‐day model which compared the number of generations that E. catarinensis, N. albiguttalis, and M. scutellaris are capable of producing annually at any given site in South Africa. The degree‐day models predicted that N. albiguttalis (K = 439.43, to = 9.866) can complete 4–11 generations per year, whereas M. scutellaris (K =502.96, to = 11.458) can only complete 0–10 generations per year, compared with E. catarinensis (K = 342, to = 10.3) which is predicted to complete 3–14 generations per year. This suggests that the candidate agent, M. scutellaris, will not fare better in establishment than the other two agents that have been released in the Highveld, and that it may not be worth releasing an agent with higher thermal requirements than the agents that already occur in these high‐lying areas. Thermal physiology studies conducted prior to release are important tools in biological control programmes, particularly those in resource‐limited countries, to prevent wasting efforts in getting an agent established.  相似文献

The effects of reduced‐impact logging (RIL) on the regeneration of commercial tree species were investigated, as long‐term timber yields depend partly on the availability of seedlings in a managed forest. On four occasions during a 20‐month period in the Tapajós National Forest (Eastern Amazon, Brazil), seven commercial tree species were assessed as follows: the long‐lived pioneers Bagassa guianensis and Jacaranda copaia; the partially shade‐tolerant Hymenaea courbaril, Dipteryx odorata, and Carapa guianensis; and the totally shade‐tolerant Symphonia globulifera and Manilkara huberi. In 2439 10 × 10 m plots, all individuals < 20 cm diameter at breast height (dbh) were assessed over three intervals, before, during, and after the forest being logged. Before logging, the density of seedlings and saplings of the seven species did not change. Logged trees were spatially aggregated, with 9.2 percent of the plots being heavily impacted by logging. After logging, the recruitment rate increased more than the mortality rate, so that post‐harvesting densities of seedlings and saplings increased. The increase in density was concentrated in logged plots with more disturbances. It is concluded that post‐harvesting heterogeneity of micro‐environments created by RIL may be an important component to be taken into account for sustainable forest management and conservation of commercial species.  相似文献

Question: What is the spatial relationship between remaining trees and the establishment and development of recruited saplings? Location: The Pinus sylvestris forest Pinar de Valsaín, in the Sistema mountain range (central Spain). Methods: Three 0.5 ha plots have been analysed. The saplings were located in a 2 m x 2 m grid, characterizing their spatial pattern through a nested ANO VA. The spatial pattern of stems was analysed using the L(d) function. To analyse the spatial relationship between stems belonging to different cohorts, the intertype Lrs(d) function was used. Finally a new function Krx(d) is presented as a method to analyse the relationship between the spatial distribution of stems and the sapling density (a sampled continuous variable). Results: The mother trees show cluster pattern at scales of ca. 12 m ‐ 22 m, leading to a spatial pattern at 14 m–16 m for the saplings during the regeneration period. At the beginning of the shelter phase, saplings less than 1.30 m in height show spatial repulsion from the old crop at distances above 10 m, whereas taller saplings show repulsion at shorter distances, due to the suppression of sapling development near the mother trees. At the end of the regeneration period, saplings < 1.30 m appear under the last remaining mother tree canopies. Conclusions: In the stands analysed, located at the southern limit of Pinus sylvestris distribution, this species behaves as half‐shade tolerant. This study shows that the Krx(d) function might be widely applied to analyse the relationship between patterns that occur at different scales or between a point pattern and a continuous variable, being a useful tool for analysing some forest processes.  相似文献

Acacia species in arid environments are thought to only establish in years of above-average rainfall, so should exhibit cohorted or pulsed recruitment. I studied population demography of Acacia erioloba Meyer in semi-arid savanna in the Kimberley area (mean annual precipitation = 425 ± 132 mm), South Africa, to establish whether they recruit episodically. This species was found to have a sapling bank at the sites, indicating that even though cohorted recruitment probably occurs, it is not the primary factor limiting recruitment to larger size classes. A. erioloba saplings given supplementary water and protection from herbivory showed significantly less height growth than saplings given water but not protected from herbivores, and grass within exclusion plots was taller and denser than outside of exclusion plots. The generalized linear model, although finding a significant difference between watered and protected and watered and unprotected saplings, explained only 16% of variation in growth, demonstrating the importance of factors other than competition from grass when rainfall is above-average. Average height increase across all treatments for a growing season was small (43.1 ± 30.81 mm), suggesting most investment is belowground. A. erioloba sapling below surface stem diameter correlated positively with aboveground growth, indicating larger, and presumably older, individuals grow faster. When grass was removed around saplings, growth rates were not significantly greater than for saplings surrounded by grass, over a growing season. Thus, in these study sites, pulsed events allow seedlings to establish, and then saplings slowly accumulate over many growing seasons within the grass sward, owing to slow aboveground growth combined with competition from grass in absence of grazers. Release events, e.g., heavy grazing combined with good rainfall, may allow mass release, giving the impression of cohorted or pulsed recruitment.  相似文献

Preliminary screening of extracts of the leaves and stems of four Turraea plant species (Meliaceae) on second instar larvae of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) showed that the methanolic extract of Turraea abyssinica leaves possess good toxic potential with LD50 of 270.7 ppm. Fractionation of this extract led to isolation of a new limonoid derivative, 12α‐diacetoxywalsuranolide (1) and three other known limonoids [1α,7α,12α‐triacetoxy‐4α‐carbomethoxy‐11β‐hydroxy‐14β,15β‐epoxyhavanensin (2), 11‐epi‐21‐hydroxytoonacilide (3), 11β,12α‐diacetoxycedrelone (4)]. The structures of the compounds were established by IR, UV, mass spectrometry and 1D/2D NMR analyses, and in the case of the known compounds, also by comparison with reported data. All the isolates were tested for their larvicidal activities at different dose range against second instar larvae of T. absoluta. They were found to be more active (with LD50 < 7.0 ppm) compared to the reference compound azadirachtin (LD50 value of 7.8 ppm).  相似文献

Abstract A comparison was made between the total density of tree species recorded on three 1 ha plots that have been protected from fire for 20 years, and from three surrounding sites that have been subjected to the ambient fire regime. Both unburnt plots and ambient sites were in a lowland coastal Eucalyptus tetrodonta savanna in Kakadu National Park. Fire protection resulted in a substantial increase in the number of saplings (16 times more than ambient), poles (five times more than ambient) and trees (2. 5 times more than ambient), but slightly fewer (7%) sprouts than ambient. Of the 32 species recorded in the six 0. 2 ha samples, only nine species could legitimately be analysed using Chi-squared analysis to test for differences in the density of sprouts and saplings between unburnt and ambient samples; eight of these species had significantly different distributions. Typically the unburnt samples had a greater number of saplings compared to ambient conditions, but fewer sprouts. Eucalyptus miniata showed no significant difference in the density of sprouts and saplings between the unburnt and ambient samples. Chi-squared analyses of the frequency distribution among four size classes (sprouts, saplings, poles and trees) was possible for six species. The results for five of these species mirrored the findings of the comparison between sprouts and saplings. However, the fan palm Livistona humilus, which typically forms a component of the mid-layer in E. tetrodonta savannas, was found to have a large number of sprouts on the unburnt samples and a complete absence of stems in any of the other size classes. Dead L. humilus stems attested to the former occurrence of larger size classes of this species on the unburnt plots. No rainforest species were recorded in the unburnt samples. Minor differences in species composition between unburnt and ambient samples are thought to reflect sampling effects. The results of this study are consistent with the conclusions of an earlier study at the same site which also concluded that rainforest tree species do not readily colonize unburnt Eucalyptus savanna.  相似文献

Abstract Exotic shrubs are significant invaders of the tropical woodlands of northern Australia. They cause problems for pastoral industries and are likely to induce significant change in woodland communities. A single fire in the middle of the dry season affected the survival and vegetative growth of two important shrub species, Cryptostegia grandiflora and Ziziphus mauritiana. The fire killed about 96% of small plants (height < 100cm), 80% of medium-sized plants and 45% of large plants (height > 200cm) of C. grandiflora. However, only about 10% of small Z. mauritiana were killed. Most plants of Z. mauritiana resprouted vigorously within three months of the fire. Effects on the vegetative phenology of C. grandiflora persisted until 10 months after the fire, but by four months after the fire, burnt and unburnt Z. mauritiana were similar as regards the distribution of individuals between phenological categories. Changed fire regimes may partially explain the colonization of northern and northeastern Queensland by C. grandiflora but probably had little effect on Z. mauritiana. Fire has significant potential as a tool in the management of C. grandiflora wherever adequate grass fuel can be attained. The use of fire will be particularly valuable for preventing range expansion, for situations where the species is in the early stages of invasion and in parts of the landscape where densities are relatively low.  相似文献

Better understanding of the competitive interaction at the early development stages of the stand is crucial to help schedule silvicultural treatments for young stands and for the better management of the future stands. We used scale‐dependent analysis to improve our understanding of sapling dynamics in the pure Taurus cedar (Cedrus libani A. Rich.) stands in Southern Turkey. Using data from nine plots established at the western Taurus Mountains, diameter, height, and crown radii of saplings were compared, and spatial point pattern analyses were performed. We found significant differences for the mean diameter and height, and crown radii of saplings among the plots. Univariate pair correlation function showed that sapling pattern was regular only at small scales (r < 0.4 m) but was predominantly random. Bivariate pair correlation function revealed no evidence of spatial interaction between tall saplings and short saplings. Univariate mark correlation function revealed that strong intraspecific competition was detected at small scales (up to 0.55 m). This distance is reasonable for the juvenile age tending of Taurus cedar saplings and should be under consideration during silvicultural treatments to use the site productivity more efficiently.  相似文献

The emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis) is a destructive invasive beetle that has caused mortality of millions of Fraxinus spp. trees in North America. The extended interval between insect establishment, detection and management has allowed this pest to spread over large parts of North America. Artificial purple canopy traps are currently used in national detection surveys for this beetle. The effectiveness of purple canopy traps at low‐to‐moderate A. planipennis population densities in relation to road proximity was evaluated in 2013 and 2014. Transects of traps were established at set distances from roads in northern Michigan near an isolated A. planipennis infestation. It was hypothesized that trap effectiveness is influenced by road proximity, and that traps placed closer to roads were more likely to detect A. planipennis. A significant relationship was established between the mean number of A. planipennis captured on traps and road proximity (nearness), while no significant relationship was observed between detection success and road proximity. These findings suggest establishing traps further from roads (which can be less economically efficient) provides no greater likelihood of detection than establishing traps on or near the road edge. Basal area of non‐ash and ash species, beetle population density, vigour rating, ash tree species and sampling duration were shown to significantly influence the number of A. planipennis captured on traps.  相似文献

Enormous mountainous forests in Sino‐Himalayans and Siberia harbor important avian biodiversity in the Northern Hemisphere. Numerous studies in last two decades have been contributed to systematics and taxonomy of passerines birds in these regions and have revealed various and complex phylogeographic patterns. A passerine species Red‐flanked Bluetail Tarsiger cyanurus provided a good system to manifest such evolutionary complexity. The subspecies T. c. cyanurus and T. c. rufilatus (or/and T. c. pallidior), divergent in morphology, acoustics, and migratory strategies are allopatric in Siberia and Sino‐Himalayan forests, respectively. The two taxa most likely deserve full species status but rigorous genetic analysis is missing. In this study, multilocus phylogeography based on mitochondrial DNA and Z‐linked DNA reveals that T. c. cyanurus and T. c. rufilatus are reciprocally monophyletic with significant statistical support and differ with a large number of diagnostic nucleotide sites resulting substantial genetic divergence. Our finding supports the proposed split of Tarsiger cyanurus s.l. that T. cyanurus and T. rufilatus should be treated as two full species. Whether “pallidior” is a subspecies or geographical form of T. rufilatus is still uncertain. Additionally, these two forest passerine species may have diverged 1.88 (3.25–1.30) Mya, which might be shaped by geographical vicariance due to grassland and desert steppe on the central Loess Plateau during the Pliocene. Taken together, this study and further suggests another independent example of North Palearctic–Sino‐Himalayan phylogeographic pattern in Palearctic birds.  相似文献

Cariniana legalis is an emergent tree that reaches the upper canopy in Brazilian Semideciduous Forest. Spatial contrasts in microclimatic conditions between the upper canopy and understorey in a forest may affect morpho-physiological leaf traits. In order to test the hypothesis that the upper canopy is more stressful to leaves than a gap environment we compared emergent trees of Clegalis, 28–29 m in height to gap saplings, 6–9 m in height, for the following parameters: leaf area, leaf mass area (LMA the dry weight:leaf area ratio), leaf thickness, leaf anatomical parameters, stomata conductance, and chlorophyll a fluorescence. Leaves from emergent trees had smaller leaf areas but greater LMA compared to saplings. Leaf thickness, palisade layer thickness, and stomatal density were higher for emergent trees than for saplings. The opposite pattern was observed for spongy layer thickness and spongy/palisade ratio. Stomatal conductance was also higher for emergent tree leaves than for sapling leaves, but the magnitude of depression on stomatal conductance near midday was more pronounced in emergent trees. The potential quantum yield of photosystem II, as determined by the F v/F m ratio was lower for leaves from saplings. The lower values of stomatal conductance, indicating restriction in CO2 diffusion into the mesophyll can be related to higher photoinhibition observed in the saplings. Leaves from emergent trees and saplings exhibited similar values for apparent electron transport rates and non-photochemical quenching. Our results suggest that changes in leaf traits could be associated to dry conditions at the upper canopy as well as to the ontogenetic transition between sapling/emergent tree life stages.  相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships between western Palaearctic Zamenis and Rhinechis ratsnakes have been troubled, with recent estimates based on the supermatrix approach questioning their monophyly and providing contradictory results. In this study, we generated a comprehensive molecular data set for Zamenis and closely related ratsnakes to assess their phylogenetic and systematic relationships and infer their spatial and temporal modes of diversification. We obtained a fully resolved and well‐supported phylogeny, which is consistent across markers, taxon‐sets and phylogenetic methods. The close phylogenetic relationship between Rhinechis and Zamenis is well‐established. However, the early branching pattern within this clade, and the position of R. scalaris and Z. hohenackeri, remains poorly supported. The Persian ratsnake Z. persicus is sister to the Mediterranean species Z. situla, Z. longissimus and Z. lineatus, of which Z. situla is sister to a clade containing the latter two species. These results are consistent with a recent phylogenomic study on ratsnakes based on hundreds of loci. Whereas, topological tests based on our data and evidence from such phylogenomic study strongly rejected previous phylogenetic estimates based on the supermatrix approach and demonstrate that these “mega‐phylogenies”, with hundreds of taxa and high levels of missing data, have recovered inconsistent relationships with spurious nodal support. Biogeographical and molecular dating analyses suggest an origin of the ancestor of Rhinechis and Zamenis in the Aegean region with early cladogenesis during the Late Miocene associated with the Aegean arch formation and support a scenario of east‐to‐west diversification. Finally, while we have little morphological and phylogenetic evidence for the distinctiveness between Rhinechis and Zamenis, a classification of them in a single genus, and the designation of Zamenis scalaris (Schinz, 1822), reflects better their evolutionary relationships.  相似文献

To investigate the influence of multiple canopy openings on the composition and diversity of recruited saplings in a forest frequently disturbed by typhoons. We conducted tree-by-tree censuses (diameter at breast height ≥ 1 cm) and mapped gaps (canopy height < 5 m) in 1993, 2000, 2008, and 2013 in a tropical mountain zonal foothill evergreen broad-leaved forest in Nanjenshan Nature Reserve, Taiwan. We analyzed the composition and diversity of recruited saplings within a 2.1 ha plot (840 sampling quadrats (5 m × 5 m)) with variable numbers of canopy openings recorded during the study period. Composition of recruited saplings was dissimilar between quadrats that stayed opened and those that stayed closed throughout the study period (pairwise similarity estimates C02 = 0.52, 95% CI = 0.38–0.66). The quadrats under closed canopy had high diversity when weighting rare species (species richness), whereas quadrats with one or two gap opening records during the past 20 years had high diversity when weighting the abundance of species. Although canopy openings provided establishment conditions for saplings of some shade-intolerant species, due to the nature of small gap size, such habitats do not favor the dominance of shade-intolerant species. Even in a frequently disturbed forest, species composition and richness of recruited saplings were mainly contributed by shade-tolerant species. Although multiple canopy openings facilitated the establishment of shade-intolerant species, species diversity in the study forests is possibly mainly mediated by coexistence mechanisms of those shade-tolerant species rather than light-gap-related species strategies.  相似文献

The greater stick‐nest rat (Leporillus conditor) is a conilurid rodent whose recent history provides an opportunity to examine genetic changes in reintroduced populations. We trialled 63 known microsatellite primers from Rattus rattus and Mus musculus in L. conditor. Three primer pairs produced polymorphic loci (number of alleles = 2–3, mean, HE = 0.42). Subsequently, we isolated and characterized 12 novel polymorphic microsatellites (mean number of alleles = 5–16, mean HE = 0.76) from L. conditor from genomic libraries for use in population genetic studies.  相似文献

Pollen and seed dispersal are key processes affecting the demographic and evolutionary dynamics of plant species and are also important considerations for the sustainable management of timber trees. Through direct and indirect genetic analyses, we studied the mating system and the extent of pollen and seed dispersal in an economically important timber species, Entandrophragma cylindricum (Meliaceae). We genotyped adult trees, seeds and saplings from a 400‐ha study plot in a natural forest from East Cameroon using eight nuclear microsatellite markers. The species is mainly outcrossed (= 0.92), but seeds from the same fruit are often pollinated by the same father (correlated paternity, rp = 0.77). An average of 4.76 effective pollen donors (Nep) per seed tree contributes to the pollination. Seed dispersal was as extensive as pollen dispersal, with a mean dispersal distance in the study plot approaching 600 m, and immigration rates from outside the plot to the central part of the plot reaching 40% for both pollen and seeds. Extensive pollen‐ and seed‐mediated gene flow is further supported by the weak, fine‐scale spatial genetic structure (Sp statistic = 0.0058), corresponding to historical gene dispersal distances (σg) reaching approximately 1,500 m. Using an original approach, we showed that the relatedness between mating individuals (Fij = 0.06) was higher than expected by chance, given the extent of pollen dispersal distances (expected Fij = 0.02 according to simulations). This remarkable pattern of assortative mating could be a phenomenon of potentially consequential evolutionary and management significance that deserves to be studied in other plant populations.  相似文献

Due to accidental introductions, the distribution of the east Asian topmouth gudgeon, Pseudorasbora parva, has rapidly expanded over recent years, thereby threatening the endangered Japanese species, P. pumila pumila. Sixteen microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized for P. parva, 14 being highly polymorphic (mean HE = 0.58, mean number of alleles = 4.4). Successful characterization of 10 of these loci was also achieved for P. pumila pumila. These markers should be useful in future investigation of colonization of P. parva and the development of conservation strategies for P. pumila pumila.  相似文献
