Summary NCSWAP (nitrogen and carbon cycling in soil, water and plant) is a simulation model of the soil-crop-water system which integrates water flow dynamics, crop growth, N transformations, tillage and residue effects, soil temperature, and solute transport. A small plot field study was initiated in May of 1980 to determine the effects of N rate (2 or 20 g N/m2), tillage (rototill or no-till), and residue management system (residue return or noresidue) on soil parameters, and maize (Zea mays L.) production.Significant differences due to treatments (N rate, tillage, and residue) were not detected in 1981 for the measured soil-plant parameters including soil moisture, yield, and N uptake. Therefore, two representative treatment combinations (N rates of 2 or 20 g N/m2-tilled-no residue) characterized the field research data. Calculated and observed data sets were compared for several parameters including: (1) soluble NO3–N, (2) N leaching losses (3) plant total-N and15N, (4) root growth, (5) soil moisture, and (6) fertilizer efficiency. The objectives of this study were to initiate the validation process of the model NCSWAP, and to illustrate how NCSWAP can be used as a research tool to infer operational characteristics of the N cycle.Contribution of the Soil and Water Management Research Unit, USDA-ARS, and the Department of Soil Science, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, MN 55108. Orbitozygomatic fractures are frequently encountered in plastic surgery. Management depends on a thorough preoperative physical examination, with attention to the ophthalmologic assessment. Coronal and axial computed tomography is essential for identifying fracture extent and orbital involvement. Adequate exposure and mobilization of fracture segments is essential for successful anatomical reduction. Failure to perform effective fixation may lead to subsequent complications, such as enophthalmos and diplopia. The authors illustrate the appropriate management of orbitozygomatic fractures in an effort to reduce complications and attain aesthetically satisfying results.  相似文献

The disease management approach to patient care seeks to coordinate resources across the healthcare delivery system. The growing interest in evidence based medicine and outcomes, and a commitment to integrated care across the primary, secondary, and community care sectors, all contribute to making disease management an attractive idea. A combination of patient education, provider use of practice guidelines, appropriate consultation, and supplies of drugs and ancillary services all come together in the disease management process. But its effectiveness is largely untested, so evaluation is essential.  相似文献

The Huastec have interacted with elements of a diverse flora in northeastern Mexico for 30 centuries. A Huastec plant-management model is derived from patterns reflected in all anthropogenic vegetation zones, from the dooryard to the forest, and used to discuss the possible effects of human activities upon the prehistoric rain forest. Huastec plant management is discussed from an analytical perspective which views plant management as resulting from the integration of two types of plant manipulation: the manipulation of vegetation en masse and the manipulation of individual plants. Decisions about plant manipulation reflect a concern for minimal labor investment to place the resource at hand. Noncrop plant manipulation practices potentially influence the evolution of individual plants and plant communities primarily by affecting species' distribution and population parameters. Since the impact of plant-management practices clearly goes beyond domestication, ways of evaluating such practices in order to expand our understanding of ethnobotanical interactions and their impact are suggested.  相似文献

The Laboratory Animal Management System (LAMS) is a flexible, multi-purpose animal house management tool. It has a decentralized structure and was developed using UNIFACE and Oracle-database software. The multiuser LAMS system runs on a Micro-Vax computer and can be accessed from several workstations. LAMS has been designed to manage the following functions: animal study details; animal procurement; book keeping and follow-up; amendments; update of data; inquiries; statistics and numerous additional tasks. LAMS is a user-friendly interactive system which does not allow input of incorrect data and can be operated by staff with very little computer experience. The system fully complies with German legal requirements and is becoming an increasingly important tool for routine management of animal house facilities and animal experimentation.  相似文献
