The pollen morphology of the following genera is described: Manglietia (1 sp.), Magnolia (10 spp.), Talauma (2 spp.), Alcimandra (1 sp.), Michelia (5 spp.) and Liriodendron (2 spp.). Plant remains were recovered from an Urartian settlement, Yoncatepe, situated in the Van province of eastern Turkey and dating to the Iron Age period (first millennium B.C.E.). Large quantities of hulled barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and of bread/macaroni wheat (free-threshing wheat) Triticum aestivum L./T. durum Desf.), both mixed with small quantities of domesticated emmer wheat (T. dicoccum Schübl.), were found in the storerooms of the Yoncatepe palace, indicating the storage of agricultural surplus. Rye (Secale cereale L.) grains occur very occasionally, while pulses include lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.), chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), and bitter vetch (Vicia ervilia [L.] Willd.). Grape seeds unearthed in a tomb at Yoncatepe provide physical evidence supporting written records of vineyards. Numerous seeds of gold of pleasure (Camelina sativa [L.] Crantz), found in a storage vessel, provide evidence of the cultivation of this plant. It is likely, that the Urartians used the seeds for oil extraction.  相似文献

The continuing pollinator crisis is due, in part, to the lack of year‐round floral resources. In intensive farming regions, such as the Upper Midwest (UMW) of the USA, natural and pastoral vegetation largely has been replaced by annual crops such as maize (Zea mays L.), soyabean (Glycine max L.) and wheat (Triticum spp.). Neither the energy (nectar) nor protein (pollen) needs of pollinating and other beneficial insects are being met sufficiently by the new, high‐intensity, agricultural landscape. Several potentially useful oilseed crops can be grown in the UMW, and many of these oilseeds are highly attractive to beneficial insects. Prior research showed that some of these oilseeds produced abundant nectar, but their corresponding values for pollen production are unknown. Accordingly, the aim of our research was to document pollen (and protein) production per unit area of twelve oilseed crops grown in Minnesota and associate these values with levels of beneficial insect visitation during anthesis. Our results show that oilseed crops such as camelina (Camelina sativa L.), flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) and pennycress (Thlaspi arvense L.) produce relatively little pollen (≤40 kg/ha); borage (Borago officinalis L.), calendula (Calendula officinalis L.), canola (Brassica napus L.), crambe (Crambe abyssianica Hochst) and cuphea (Cuphea viscosissima Jacq. × Cuphea lanceolata W. T. Aiton) produce bountiful pollen resources (50–150 kg/ha); and oilseed echium (Echium plantagineum L.) generates massive amounts of pollen (>400 kg/ha), about 50% of which is protein. Our study is unique in presenting a season‐long perspective of pollen production in alternative oilseed crops, a resource valuable to pollen‐feeding insects such as managed and wild bees. Diversification of UMW landscapes that includes alternative oilseed crops such as oilseed echium and cuphea can potentially provide a ready source of pollen and protein to help combat pollinator decline.  相似文献

Abstract Information on host plant preference of agriculturally important insect pests, such as Lygus hesperus (Knight), can be helpful in predicting its occurrence and future movement among crop and non-crop host plants. A field study was conducted during 2005 and 2006 to evaluate the host preference of Lygus to cotton and four other host plants in the Texas High Plains, including alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), wild sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.), Russian thistle (Salsola iberica L.) and pigweed (Amaranthus palmeri L.). Sampling for both nymphs and adults during 2005 (July to November) and 2006 (June to November) showed that alfalfa and Russian thistle were the two most preferred hosts out of the five hosts evaluated. Abundance of nymphs (numbers per 50 sweeps per host plant) during the sampling period also indicated the superior reproductive suitability of alfalfa and Russian thistle. Cotton appeared to be the least attractive host plant for Lygus when Russian thistle and alfalfa were available in the host mosaic. Seasonal abundance of Lygus was found to be lower during 2006 compared to 2005, which may be explained by the difference in rainfall patterns during these two years. In terms of species dominance, L. hesperus was the most dominant species in the sampled population followed by an inconsiderable fraction of L. elisus and L. lineolaris.  相似文献

1. The feeding preferences of the trichopteran shredder Sericostoma personatum Spence and the amphipod shredder Gammarus pulex L. were studied using specimens collected in a springbrook where the major food source was beech litter (Fagus sylvatica L.). Six food items were tested: conditioned beech leaves, conditioned alder leaves (Alnus glutinosa L.), conditioned Sitka spruce needles [Picea sitchensis (Bong.) Carr], fresh beech leaves, a fresh macrophyte (Potamogeton perfoliatus L.) and a fresh filamentous green alga (Microspora sp.). 2. The overall preference pattern shown by the two shredders was the same: both preferred conditioned Alnus most, followed by fresh Microspora. The least preferred food items were conditioned Fagus leaves and Picea needles. 3. The feeding preference of the two shredders proved to be unrelated to food source fibre content, toughness, total phosphorus, C:N ratio and total nitrogen (P>0.05). 4. Despite the overall similarity in their feeding preferences, Gammarus was more selective than Sericostoma. The reason for this difference is discussed. 5. We interpret our findings as indicating that detritivore-shredders do not per se prefer leaf litter, but in fact actively select other food items such as filamentous green algae or macrophytes, even when terrestrial leaf litter is abundant. Most shredders in Danish forest streams thus seem to live on a growth-limiting food resource that they do not prefer. This may have important implications for secondary production in such streams.  相似文献

The author gives a revision of the Chilian Megalopininae and Steninae. Results : one species is revalidated (chilensis L.Bck.), a second synonymized (solieri Coiff.& Saiz = gayi Sol.), a third is described as new (saizi n.sp.). Of two species (gayi Sol., anthrax Fairm. & Germ.) lectotypes are designated, two other species already described are new for Chili (Megalopinus plaumanni L.Bck., Stenus endosquameus Puthz). The Chilian fauna of Megalopininae and Steninae is a very rare one concerning number of species as well as number of monophyletic groups. There are no relations to other extratropic groups.  相似文献

Macroremains of late Neolithic cultivated plants are reported from the archaeological site of Maliq, Korça District, south-eastern Albania. The material comprises einkorn (Triticum monococcum L.), emmer (Triticum dicoccon Schrank), barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) and bitter vetch (Vicia ervilia (L.) Willd.). These are the first remains of cultivated plants described from an archaeological site in Albania.  相似文献

The n-hexane-, acetone- and water-soluble fractions obtained from an aqueous acetone extract of lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.) shoots inhibited the germination and the growth of roots and shoots of cockscomb (Amaranthus caudatus L.), cress (Lepidium sativum L.), crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis L.), timothy (Phleum pratense L.), lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.). The inhibitory activity of the water-soluble fraction was the greatest, followed by that of acetone- and n-hexane-soluble fractions in all bioassays. The effectiveness of these fractions on the roots was greater than that of the shoots of the test plants. Significant reductions in the germination and growth of the roots and shoots were observed as the extract concentration increased. Such rate-dependent responses of the test plants to the fractions suggest that each fraction might contain allelochemical(s), but that the greatest potential was in the water-soluble fraction.  相似文献

Influence of the food plants ofHeliothis armigera (Hb.) on the degree of parasitism by exotic parasiteCotesia kazak Telenga (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) was studied in cages in the laboratory on 7 food plants such as cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.), tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill), okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench], Dolichos (dolichos lablab L.), pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.], Cowpea (Vigna unquiculata (L.) and chickpea (Cicer arietium L.). To determine the preference of the parasite 2 test methods were employed. In single plant choice test cotton was most preferred. Next in order of preference were tomato and okra. Dolichos, pigeonpea, cowpea and chickpea were least preferred. In multiple choice test, however, cotton and okra were preferred followed by tomato. Parasites were seen visiting these plants very frequently and high parasitism was recorded on these plants. Chick pea, pigeon pea, cowpea and Dolichos were the least preferred food plants. There appears to be some difference in fecundity as affected by some food plants. Exposure on okra, cotton and tomato resulted in higher cocoon production as compared to pigeonpea, Dolichos, cowpea and chickpea. There was, however, no difference in sex-ratio and longevity of the progeny as affected by food plants. This exotic parasite should be released first in crops such as cotton, okra and tomato on whichH. armigera is a very serious pest in India and elsewhere. The preference of lepidopterous stem borer moths to oviposit on certain wild host plants can be exploited in habitat management systems by using those hosts as trap crops. Vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) Nash) was evaluated for its attractiveness and suitability to the pyralid Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) and the noctuid Busseola fusca (Fuller) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Two choice tests were conducted in the laboratory and in the greenhouse to determine oviposition choice of C. partellus for maize, Vetiver and rice (Oryza sativa L.), and of B. fusca for Vetiver and maize. C. partellus larval survival was evaluated in green house studies. Results indicated that C. partellus chose Vetiver grass over maize though larval survival on Vetiver was extremely low. B. fusca did not show any host preference.  相似文献

Dehydrins are characterized by the consensus KIKEKLPG amino acid sequence found near the carboxy terminus, and usually repeated from one to many times within the protein. A synthetic peptide containing this consensus sequence was used to produce specific antibodies that recognize dehydrins in a wide range of plants. This range covered two families of monocots, viz. Gramineae (Hordeum vulgare L., Triticum aestivum L., Zea mays L., Oryza sativa L.) and Liliaceae (Allium sativa L.), and five families of dicots, Malvaceae (Gossypium hirsutum L.), Solanaceae (Lycopersicon esculentum L.), Brassicaceae (Raphanus sativus L.), Fabaceae (Vigna unguiculata L.), and Cucurbitaceae (Cucumis sativus L.). Two families of gymnosperms, Pinaceae (Pinus edulis Engelm.) and Ginkgoaceae (Ginkgo biloba L.), were also included. For several plants in which dehydrin cDNA and genomic clones have previously been characterized, it now appears that the dehydrin family of proteins is larger, and the regulation of dehydrin expression much more complex, than earlier studies have shown.  相似文献

【目的】探讨碳源和甲烷菌对厌氧真菌碳代谢的影响。【方法】利用体外批次厌氧发酵法,比较厌氧真菌纯培养(Orpinomyces sp.和Neocallimastix sp.)及其与甲烷菌共培养(F1:Orpinomyces sp.+Methanobrevibacter sp.和N3:Neocallimastix sp.+Methanobrevibacter sp.)发酵不同类型碳水化合物代谢产物的差异。【结果】对厌氧真菌和甲烷菌共培养F1和N3的研究显示,F1发酵木薯粉[(26.44±0.22)mmol/L]的乳酸产量是发酵玉米芯[(1.31±0.04)mmol/L]的20.18倍,是N3发酵木薯粉[(1.59±0.03)mmol/L]的16.63倍,玉米芯[(0.79±0.08)mmol/L]的33.47倍。当F1和N3中的厌氧真菌纯培养时,各组乳酸产量均1.90 mmol/L。对F1进一步研究,结果显示发酵体系中木薯粉添加量在0.8%–2.0%之间时,乳酸产量随木薯粉添加量增加而增加。当含量在1.0%–2.4%之间时,随木薯粉添加量增加,甲烷和乙酸产量逐渐降低。比较F1发酵大米粉、木薯粉、玉米粉、小麦粉和土豆粉的发酵结果,发现乳酸产量与底物中支链淀粉的含量成正相关(R2=0.9554)。当F1发酵葡萄糖和麦芽糖时,乳酸产量5.00 mmol/L。当以麦芽糊精为底物时,乳酸产量高达(28.00±0.95)mmol/L。【结论】本文首次报道碳源和甲烷菌能够增强厌氧真菌的乳酸代谢途径并且这种增强存在种属特异性。  相似文献

Attagenus hyrcanus sp. n. differs from A. punctatus (Scop.) in the structure of the male antennae and aedeagus. Anthrenus montanus sp. n. can be distinguished from A. scrophulariae (L.) by the structure of the antennae, aedeagus, and sternite IX, and by the coloration of scales on the dorsal surface and metepisterna. Attagenus pulcher Fald. is a subspecies of A. tigrinus (F.). The name Anthrenus amoenulus araraticus Zhant. is resurrected. Some additional data on the distribution of Attagenus dispar (Redt.), Megatoma ussuriensis Mrocz. (= M. undata ussuriensis syn. n.), Globicornis (G.) antoniae (Rtt.), and Anthrenus delicatus Kies. are given.  相似文献

The effect of light on NADPH-protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase and its mRNA has been studied in five different species of dicotyledonous plants, bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), pea (Pisum sativum L.), tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.), sunflower (Helianthus annuns L.) and mustard (Sinapis alba L.), and in two monocotyledonous plant species, maize (Zea mays L.) and barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). In all these species, illumination of etiolated seedlings led to a rapid decline of both the activity and the content of the enzyme protein. Anglers' records of fish weight (ARFW) were analysed in Poland for the periods 1965–1989 (successive increases in inland water pollution), and 1990–2010 (considerable improvements in water quality). For the initial ARFW analysis, the entire study was divided into nine intervals of 5 years each; the period that followed was divided into three catchments: the Vistula, Oder and Pomeranian rivers, whereby 10 species were chosen to represent obligatory riverine and facultative species. With a few exceptions, the investigated species showed unexpected and varying reactions to the changes in water quality. The ARFW of obligatory riverine barbel Barbus barbus (L.) decreased during the first periods (1965–1989), then increased significantly from 1990 to 2010. For obligatory riverine ide Leuciscus idus (L.), tendencies were less clear but as significant. However, other obligatory riverine species have not shown a relationship between ARFW and water quality. Discrepancies were also recorded in the facultative riverine pike (Esox lucius L.) and brown trout (Salmo trutta L.). Considering the number of medals recorded, there were some interesting tendencies related to the decline or improvement in the water quality, although not in all investigated species. The species displaying a decrease in medals awarded from 1966 to 1989 and increasing after 1990, was chub Leuciscus cephalus (L.), but only until 2005. Species which showed successive increases in awards from 1989 to 2010 were: pike, perch (Perca fluviatilis L.), ide, and wels (Silurus glanis L.). However, for species in the period when the water quality actually deteriorated (1966–1990), the number of medals awarded increased: barbel, brown trout (S. trutta L.), and grayling Thymallus thymallus (L.).  相似文献

This paper reports the effects under green-house and field conditions of four arbuscular-mycorrhizal (AM) fungi on the growth and nutrition of some tropical and subtropical crops of economic importance in the Canary Islands (Spain) whose mycorrhizal dependency was unknown. Avocado (Persea americana Mill.), papaya (Carica papaya L.), pineapple (Ananas comosus (Merr.) L.) and banana (Musa acuminata Colla) were highly responsive to the mycorrhizal condition when the AM inoculum was Glomus sp. endophytes. Under our experimental conditions, Glomus fasciculatum was the most effective fungus at improving plantlet growth and nutrition. Acaulospora sp. was ineffective and Scutellospora was only effective with banana. The data clearly show the advantage of mycorrhization during the first phase of development of the plant system.  相似文献

Increasing atmospheric CO2 concentration has led to concerns about potential effects on production agriculture as well as agriculture's role in sequestering C. In the fall of 1997, a study was initiated to compare the response of two crop management systems (conventional and conservation) to elevated CO2. The study used a split‐plot design replicated three times with two management systems as main plots and two CO2 levels (ambient=375 μL L?1 and elevated CO2=683 μL L?1) as split‐plots using open‐top chambers on a Decatur silt loam (clayey, kaolinitic, thermic Rhodic Paleudults). The conventional system was a grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.) and soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) rotation with winter fallow and spring tillage practices. In the conservation system, sorghum and soybean were rotated and three cover crops were used (crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.), sunn hemp (Crotalaria juncea L.), and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)) under no‐tillage practices. The effect of management on soil C and biomass responses over two cropping cycles (4 years) were evaluated. In the conservation system, cover crop residue (clover, sunn hemp, and wheat) was increased by elevated CO2, but CO2 effects on weed residue were variable in the conventional system. Elevated CO2 had a greater effect on increasing soybean residue as compared with sorghum, and grain yield increases were greater for soybean followed by wheat and sorghum. Differences in sorghum and soybean residue production within the different management systems were small and variable. Cumulative residue inputs were increased by elevated CO2 and conservation management. Greater inputs resulted in a substantial increase in soil C concentration at the 0–5 cm depth increment in the conservation system under CO2‐enriched conditions. Smaller shifts in soil C were noted at greater depths (5–10 and 15–30 cm) because of management or CO2 level. Results suggest that with conservation management in an elevated CO2 environment, greater residue amounts could increase soil C storage as well as increase ground cover.  相似文献

Bean leaf roll virus (BLRV) and pea enation mosaic virus (PEMV) were each transmitted by Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) to fifteen of thirty species of legumes in the glasshouse; eleven species were susceptible to both viruses. The only biennial or perennial species infected by BLRV were hop trefoil (Medicago lupulina L.), lucerne (M. sativa L.) and red clover (Trifolium pratense L.), but naturally infected sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia Scop.) and white clover (T. repens L.) were found. The only perennial species infected with PEMV in the glasshouse was kidney vetch (Anthyllis vulneraria L.). Eggs of A. pisum, which seems to be the main vector of BLRV and PEMV in England, were found in winter on several species of cultivated perennial legumes, most on lucerne, fewest on white clover. In spring, more viviparae of A. pisum were found on lucerne than on other perennial legumes, and many on lucerne, but few on red or white clover, were infective with BLRV. Lucerne is probably the main overwintering source of BLRV in areas where lucerne is common, but elsewhere red and white clovers are probably as important. No aphid collected from perennial legumes between 1965 and 1968 was infective with PEMV, but this virus can overwinter in common vetch (Vicia sativa L.). Lucerne infected with BLRV was usually symptomless or showed only transient mild yellowing of young leaves. Lucerne plants showing vein-yellowing, similar to that previously reported as a symptom of BLRV, were possibly infected with an aberrant strain of BLRV but more probably with BLRV and another aphid-transmitted agent. Inoculations from lucerne with vein-yellowing symptoms sometimes caused vein-yellowing, and sometimes typical BLRV-symptoms, in crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.).  相似文献

The aromatic amine, -phenethylamine, was identified in various field-grown leguminous plants by analyses with HPLC, GC, GC-MS and 1H-NMR. High concentration of -phenethylamine was generally detected only in mature root nodules, but not in other plant organs such as root, stem, leaf, pod and grain. Occurrence was specific to the root nodules formed by Bradyrhizobium infection. Ten of eleven legume crops including soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.], pigeon pea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.], adzuki bean (Vigna angularis), mung bean [V. radiata (L.) Wilczek] and cowpea (V. unguiculata) contained this aromatic amine, but groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) also nodulated by Bradyrhizobium sp. did not. Root nodules collected from garden pea (Pisum sativum L.), broad bean (Vicia fava L.), kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and various other herbaceous legumes nodulated by Rhizobium sp., Mesorhizobium sp., Sinorhizobium sp. or Azorhizobium caulinodans, and root-nodulated, woody non-legumes, nodulated by Frankia spp., contained little -phenethylamine.The amount of -phenethylamine in Bradyrhizobium-infected nodules varied with the legume species and their cultivars, and most significantly, with nodule age. In field-grown soybean plants, nodule -phenethylamine attained maximum concentration at the flowering stage and far exceeded that of the major polyamines of soybean nodules, putrescine and spermidine.  相似文献

A new subfamily, Mongolocarinae subfam. nov. of the family Ithyceridae, from the Middle-Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous of Asia is described. It includes five genera with five species: Palaeocar gen. nov. (with P. princeps sp. nov.), Mongolocar gen. nov. (M. orcinus sp. nov.), Praecar gen. nov. (P. stolidus sp. nov.), Karacar gen. nov.
