In order to evaluate the impact of an urban effluent on antibiotic resistance of freshwater bacterial populations, water samples were collected from the Arga river (Spain), upstream and downstream from the wastewater discharge of the city of Pamplona. Strains of Enterobacteriaceae (representative of the human and animal commensal flora) (110 isolates) and Aeromonas (typically waterborne bacteria) (118 isolates) were selected for antibiotic susceptibility testing. Most of the Aeromonas strains (72%) and many of the Enterobacteriaceae (20%) were resistant to nalidixic acid. Singly nalidixic acid-resistant strains were frequent regardless of the sampling site for Aeromonas, whereas they were more common upstream from the discharge for enterobacteria. The most common resistances to antibiotics other than quinolones were to tetracycline (24.3%) and beta-lactams (20.5%) for Enterobacteriaceae and to tetracycline (27.5%) and co-trimoxazole (26.6%) for Aeromonas. The rates of these antibiotic resistances increased downstream from the discharge at similar degrees for the two bacterial groups; it remained at high levels for enterobacteria but decreased along the 30-km study zone for Aeromonas. Genetic analysis of representative strains demonstrated that these resistances were mostly (enterobacteria) or exclusively (Aeromonas) chromosomally mediated. Moreover, a reference strain of Aeromonas caviae (CIP 7616) could not be transformed with conjugative R plasmids of enterobacteria. Thus, the urban effluent resulted in an increase of the rates of resistance to antibiotics other than quinolones in the riverine bacterial populations, despite limited genetic exchanges between enterobacteria and Aeromonas. Quinolone resistance probably was selected by heavy antibiotic discharges of unknown origin upstream from the urban effluent.  相似文献

Density of Aeromonas spp. at one site in the Buffalo River and at four sites on its upstream tributaries was followed from June 1992–June 1993. Membrane filtration counts of Aeromonas during the summer ranged between 18 and 4000 ml−1, which were one to two logs higher than faecal coliform and faecal streptococci densities. Aeromonas spp. in the Buffalo River, and faecal coliforms, faecal streptococci, and the heterotrophic plate count throughout the watershed, increased by approximately one log during summer rainstorms. However, Aeromonas spp. increased only by a factor of two during rainstorms at the upstream sites. Aeromonas spp. showed a strong positive correlation with both indicator bacteria and total suspended solids at the upstream sites during the summer but not the winter. Correlations between Aeromonas and indicator bacteria remained strong in the Buffalo River during the winter, signifying that different conditions exist in the Buffalo River and its upstream tributaries. The strong correlation between Aeromonas spp. and indicator bacteria in the Buffalo River suggest that, in the absence of media capable of the quantitative recovery of potentially pathogenic aeromonads, standard faecal coliform analyses may adequately assess public health risks from Aeromonas spp. in an urban river used for recreational purposes.  相似文献

Over 18 months, enterobacteria were isolated from the raw (189 isolates) and treated (156 isolates) wastewater of a municipal treatment plant. The isolates were identified as members of the genera Escherichia (76%), Shigella (7%), Klebsiella (12%) and Acinetobacter (4%). Antimicrobial susceptibility phenotypes were determined using the agar diffusion method for the antibiotics amoxicillin, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, tetracycline and cephalothin, the disinfectants hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite, quaternary ammonium/formaldehyde and iodine, and the heavy metals nickel, cadmium, chromium, mercury and zinc. Class 1 integrons were detected by PCR amplification using the primers CS5 and CS3. Compared with the raw influent, the treated wastewater presented higher relative proportions of Escherichia spp. isolates resistant to ciprofloxacin and cephalothin (P<0.0001 and P<0.05, respectively). Except for mercury, which showed a positive correlation with tetracycline and sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, no significant positive correlations were observed between antibiotic, disinfectant and heavy metal resistance. The variable regions of class 1 integrons, detected in c. 10% of the Escherichia spp. isolates, contained predominantly the gene cassettes aadA1/dhfrI.  相似文献

Aeromonas isolates from tap water, mineral water, and artesian well water were investigated for their ability to produce different potential virulence factors or markers such as hemolysins, cytotoxins, phospholipase, DNase, hydrophobicity and their ability to adhere to epithelial cells and to abiotic surfaces. The susceptibility to antibiotics of Aeromonas isolates was also examined. Majority of the isolates displayed hemolytic activity against sheep erythrocytes, while only 7 of the 23 Aeromonas strains displayed DNase activity and 4 of the 23 Aeromonas strains tested were regarded as positive for phospholipase production. Most of the isolates showed cytotoxic activities in culture filtrate dilutions at titer of 1/8 or lower. No general relation between the strain isolated and the ability to interact with epithelial cells could be established. Using the bacterial adherence to hydrocarbons method, most of the strains were classified as highly hydrophilic. All five Aeromonas jandaei strains isolates, 9 of the 12 Aeromonas sp strains and four of the five Aeromonas hydrophila were multidrug resistant. The most active antimicrobial was ciprofloxacin (susceptible in 100% of the isolates), and the least active antibiotic was ampicillin (resistance in 92% of the isolates). The majority of the isolates tested were not killed by chlorine at 1.2 mg/l. Whether the high tolerance to chlorine of Aeromonas isolates can be linked to greater virulence is not know.  相似文献

Influent and effluent samples from urban wastewater plants were examined for presumptive Aeromonas. Removal efficiency was comparatively low for both presumptive Aeromonas (96.5%) and faecal coliforms (95.8%). Starch ampicillin agar (SA) medium was superior to mA medium for selectivity, with 32.3% of typical colonies confirmed as Aeromonas spp., and for the recovery of Aer. veronii biotype veronii.  相似文献

目的对不同时期肠杆菌科细菌产超广谱β-内酰胺酶(ESBLS)及耐药性进行监测。方法采用生物梅里埃ATB药敏试验板测定肠杆菌科细菌中大肠埃希菌和肺炎克雷伯菌对抗生素的敏感性,同时用表型确证法检测ESBLS。结果肠杆菌科细菌2006-2008年与2009-2011年两个时期相比,ESBLS的检出率增长近50%。对亚胺配南、头孢吡肟、头孢西丁耐药率较低,对哌拉西林/他唑巴坦、阿米卡星的耐药率次之,对其他β-内酰胺类、氨基糖苷类、喹诺酮类及磺胺类抗生素的耐药率较高,且两个时期相比耐药率增加明显,差异具有统计学意义(P〈0.05)。结论临床产ESBLS菌株不断增多,多重耐药现象越来越严重,临床实验室应当把ESBLS的检测作为常规监测工作,有效指导临床选用抗菌药物。  相似文献

The spatiotemporal distributions of Aeromonas spp. and fecal coliforms in a cove receiving sewage treatment effluent and draining into a brackish lagoon were studied for 34 months with sampling at six stations. A total of 452 strains of Aeromonas spp. were isolated and identified at the outflow of the treatment system and at stations in the cove. Hemolytic activity of 289 Aeromonas strains was determined. The Aeromonas spp. and fecal coliform distributions showed seasonal cycles in the pond effluent. These seasonal bacterial cycles were persistent in effluent, at the discharge point, and in the cove. However, the abundance levels of these bacterial distributions decreased gradually from the coast to the open lagoon. A dilution model showed that the Aeromonas spp. and fecal coliform distributions in the cove water were subject not only to dilution effect but also to other environmental factors, such as salinity. A. sobria is the most common species identified in the Aeromonas population present in the cove water. Survival studies confirmed that Aeromonas spp., especially A. sobria, were more sensitive to saline and/or marine stress than fecal coliforms. Among the Aeromonas hydrophila and A. sobria strains, 96 and 97%, respectively, produced hemolysin, whereas among the Aeromonas caviae strains, 95% were nonhemolytic.  相似文献

目的分析健康老年人肠道菌群,探讨本地区健康老年人肠道中肠杆菌科细菌的分布及其耐药情况。方法取粪便标本分别接种于血平板、SS平板、麦康凯平板进行细菌培养,用全自动微生物鉴定仪和质谱仪鉴定细菌到种,采用K-B纸片扩散法进行药敏试验测定其耐药表型,PCR扩增测序再与GenBank上比对其耐药基因。结果在175例研究对象中,有59. 4%(104/175)的健康老年人肠道中只有一种肠杆菌科细菌;细菌种类以大肠埃希菌为主,占88.0%。大肠埃希菌对IPM、CTX、AMC.F0X和CIP的耐药率分别为0% ,27.9%、4. 5% ,1.3%和37. 0% ;肺炎克雷伯菌对IPM、CTX、AMC、FOX和CIP的耐药率分别为1.9%、5.8%、1.9%、1.9%和3.8%;两者相比较,大肠埃希菌对CTX、CIP的耐药率明显高于肺炎克雷伯菌(P〈0. 05)。ESBLs总携带率为17. 4%,其中大肠埃希菌的携带率(24.0%)明显高于肺炎克雷伯菌(5.8%) (P 〈0.05);产ESBLs菌株的基因型,均为CTX-M型酶,其中以CTX-M-14最多,占57. 8%。结论本研究获得了老年人肠道肠杆菌科细菌的分布特点及其耐药机制。健康老年人肠道中肠杆菌科细菌部分抗生素的耐药率比浙江省内医院肠杆菌科细菌统计结果低,这主要是和其ESBLs携带率较低相关;但同时也已有泛耐药细菌的出现,应提高警惕。  相似文献

Aeromonas spp. are associated with seafood-related outbreaks worldwide. In seafood industry, shellfish play a major role in global seafood production. With this emerging trend of shellfish consumption, shellfish-related bacterial infections are being reported frequently. Aeromonas spp. are natural contaminants found in shellfish. Although 36 species have been identified, some species including Aeromonas hydrophila, Aeromonas caviae and Aeromonas veronii biotype sobria have dragged major attention as foodborne pathogenic bacteria. The ability to elaborate a variety of virulence factors of Aeromonas spp. contributes to the pathogenic activities. Also, emerging antimicrobial resistance in Aeromonas spp. has become a huge challenge in seafood industry. Furthermore, multidrug resistance increases the risk of consumer health. Studies have supplied pieces of evidence about the emerging health risk of Aeromonas spp. isolated from seafood. Therefore, the present review was intended to highlight the prevalence, virulence and antimicrobial resistance of Aeromonas spp. isolated from various types of shellfish.  相似文献

Bacteria belonging to the genus Aeromonas are indigenous to aquatic environments. Once regarded as unimportant human pathogens, reports of opportunistic infections caused by these organisms have appeared increasingly in the medical literature. To estimate the potential for human infection by Aeromonas where limited water resources are being used intensively, we studied the spatial and temporal variation and incidence of antimicrobial resistance among environmental isolates of Aeromonas from two urban playa lakes in Lubbock, Texas. Aeromonas population densities varied seasonally, with the highest densities occurring from mid-April to late October. The greatest range of densities was 100-fold, from 2.50 to 255.17 colony-forming units per 0.1 mL of water sample. Densities also varied with water depth, although the variation did not display a consistent pattern. One hundred fifty-one Aeromonas isolates were divided into 10 species or subspecies groups by using the BIOLOG identification system. Nine isolates displayed resistance to co-trimoxazole, tetracycline, and cefuroxime, and none was resistant to more than one of these antimicrobial agents. In summary, the results of this study showed that the densities of Aeromonas peak in the late spring and again in late summer, times when human activity around the playa lakes is also high. Thus, we infer that human exposure to these potential pathogens varies seasonally. Compared to other published studies, the incidence of antimicrobial-resistant Aeromonas is relatively low in urban playa lakes in Lubbock, Texas. We carried out a retrospective analysis of 946 strains of Enterobacteriaceae isolated from wild Australian mammals between 1993 and 1997. The prevalence of resistance to fixed concentrations of 32 antimicrobial agents was determined, and the respective roles that taxonomic family of the host, state of origin and bacterial species play in defining prevalence and range of resistance were investigated. Our results demonstrated a low but widespread prevalence of antimicrobial resistance in wild isolates. Only amikacin, ciprofloxacin, meropenem and gentamicin inhibited growth in all 946 samples. There was extensive variation in the combination of antibiotics to which isolates were resistant, and multiple antibiotic resistance was common. Geographical location and host group significantly influenced the antibiotic resistance profile of an isolate, whereas bacterial species influenced both the resistance profile of an isolate and the number of antibiotics it was resistant to. The role of these factors in determining observed antibiotic resistance profiles suggests that any study measuring resistance in wild isolates should include the broadest possible range of bacterial species, host species and sampling locations. As such, this study provides an important new baseline for future measurements of antibiotic resistance in the Australian environment.  相似文献

The global rise in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) among bacteria causing infectious diseases is well documented, and the associated risks for human health are well known. There is much less research on AMR with regard to environmental strains, both opportunistic and pathogenic ones. The genus Aeromonas is widely distributed in the environment and causes many variable diseases in fish and humans. Infections in humans are predominantly caused by Aeromonas veronii, A. hydrophila and A. caviae (A. punctata) in a form of bacteremia, gastroenteritis or even septicaemia in immunocompetent and immunocompromised individuals. Different groups of antibiotics are used in the treatment, but studies indicate that fluoroquinolones and cefotaxime are the most efficient. A disturbing consequence of antibiotic overuse is an increasing number of detection of various antibiotic resistance genes (ARG) within this genus. The water environment is one of the major modes of transmission of resistant bacteria from animals to humans, and, thus, the dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes, particularly those located in mobile genetic elements (MGE) occurs in such as plasmids and transposons. This review summarizes recently published information on the type, distribution, and transmission of ARG by MGE, widespread in Aeromonas strains living in various aquatic environments, including wastewater, natural water, aquaculture and urban drinking water. The data available indicate that the opportunistic pathogens like Aeromonas spp. might serve as important vectors of ARG for clinically relevant pathogens present in such bodies of water .  相似文献

AIM: To determine the rate of antibiotic resistance transmission between commensal and pathogenic representatives of the Enterobacteriaceae. METHODS AND RESULTS: Through the use of a validated in vitro simulation of the porcine ileum, the transmission of antibiotic resistance was detected between commensal Escherichia coli, E. coli O157 and Salmonella spp. Countable transconjugant populations arose readily and, in one example, proved capable of indefinite persistence. CONCLUSIONS: Genetic material conferring antibiotic resistance is readily transmissible between members of the Enterobacteriaceae under ileal conditions. Recipient phenotype influences the persistence of multi-resistant transconjugants. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The observation that the conjugal transmission of antibiotic resistance is commonplace under ileal conditions impacts primarily on the risk of food contamination by multi-resistant bacteria. The establishment of a multi-resistant transconjugant population as a dominant member of the microflora maintains a genetic reservoir of antimicrobial resistance.  相似文献

The data on the taxonomic structure and antibiotic resistance of Enterobacteriaceae isolated from bile of patients with various clinical variants of cholangitis are presented. It was shown that bacteriocholia was registered in 53.3-90.9% of the patients during operations and in 88.9-100% of the patients during the postoperative period. Among bilicultures enterobacteria dominated (93.4% of the cases) with predominance of E. coli and Klebsiella spp. (the total about 70%). The enterobacteria isolates were frequently resistant to ampicillin and amoxycillin/clavulanate (92.6 and 70.4% of the strains respectively), gentamicin and amikacin (74.1 and 22.2%), cefazolin and cefotaxime (88.9 and 37.0%). The resistance to imipenem and ciprofloxacin (7.4%) was rare, that should be considered while prescribing drugs for empirical antimicrobial chemotherapy.  相似文献

Experimentation using field-based artificial streams provides a promising, complimentary approach to biomonitoring assessments because artificial streams provide control over relevant environmental variables and true replication of treatments. We have used large and small artificial stream systems, based in the field, to examine the effect of treated bleached kraft pulp mill effluent (BKME) on the benthos of three large rivers in western Canada. Under natural regimes of temperature, water chemistry, and insolation, these artificial streams provide current velocities and substrata to food chains or food webs that are representative of those in the study river. With these tools we have shown that BKME stimulated mayfly growth in the Thompson River above that which could be accounted for by fertilization of their algal food supply. In contrast, moulting frequency was inhibited at high BKME concentrations. Results from artificial streams also indicate that increased algal biomass and abundances of benthic communities downstream of BKME outfalls were induced by nutrient enrichment from the effluent. BKME treatments did not change diatom species richness in the Fraser River, or diatom species diversity in either the Athabasca or Fraser Rivers. Artificial streams provide a means of understanding the mechanisms of stressor effects over a continuum ranging from single stressor effects on specific taxa to the effects of multiple stressors on communities and ecosystems. Because riverside deployment provides environmental realism within a replicated experimental design, this approach can (i) address questions that cannot be examined using laboratory tests or field observations, (ii) improve our mechanistic understanding of stressor effects on riverine ecosystems, and (iii) can contribute directly to the development, parameterization, and testing of models for predicting ecosystem-level responses.  相似文献

We observed that Aeromonas salmonicida ARO200 will maintain either or both the Pseudomonas R-factor, pMG1, and Enterobacteriaceae R-factors. This bacterial strain, therefore, provides a unique background wherein the host ranges of Pseudomonas and Enterobacteriaceae plasmods overlap. Co-maintenance of these plasmids resulted in behavior of plasmid aggregates that allowed transfer of R-dterminants beyond the host range of the parent plasmid. We observed that the ARO200 genetic background facilitated the redistribution of B determinants among unrelated and conjugally noninterfertile gram-negative bacteria. Aberrant behavior resulting in the deletion of R-determinants for plasmids singly maintained in ARO200 was also observed. Plasmids studied included RP1, R702, IncP; Rs-a, IncW; R192.7, IncFII; R64-11, IncI; R390, IncN; and R6K, IncX.  相似文献

A medium was devised for the rapid presumptive identification of Aeromonas hydrophila. It also offered good differentiation of Klebsiella, Proteus, and other enteric species.
