International Commission On Zoological Nomenclature 《ZooKeys》2012,(219):1-10
The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature has voted in favour of a revised version of the amendment to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature that was proposed in 2008. The purpose of the amendment is to expand and refine the methods of publication allowed by the Code, particularly in relation to electronic publication. The amendment establishes an Official Register of Zoological Nomenclature (with ZooBank as its online version), allows electronic publication after 2011 under certain conditions, and disallows publication on optical discs after 2012. The requirements for electronic publications are that the work be registered in ZooBank before it is published, that the work itself state the date of publication and contain evidence that registration has occurred, and that the ZooBank registration state both the name of an electronic archive intended to preserve the work and the ISSN or ISBN associated with the work. Registration of new scientific names and nomenclatural acts is not required. The Commission has confirmed that ZooBank is ready to handle the requirements of the amendment. 相似文献

The capsules, putative extrusomes in tintinnid ciliates, are known since 1971. Based on their ultrastructure, shape, and size, five capsule types were distinguished and suggested to be of phylogenetic significance. However, detailed morphometric data and transmission electron micrographs are lacking to verify former conclusions. In the current study, comprehensive analyses of transmission electron microscopic data were performed, investigating 14 species from 13 genera and more than seven families collected in European coastal waters and in the Northeast Pacific. Our data suggest two main capsule types (large and ampulliform vs small and ellipsoidal/ovoidal) each including two subtypes characterised by their internal structures. Species groupings inferred from the capsule (sub-)types emerge also as closely related in gene trees. Additionally, the ampulliform type unites the Undellidae, Xystonellidae, and Tintinnid clade 2, while the shared possession of the small ellipsoidal type proposes a close relationship of Tintinnid clade 11 with the Rhabdonellidae and Cyttarocylididae. Thus, the capsules provide promising features to shed light on several unresolved evolutionary relationships among tintinnid genera and families; yet, information on capsules is still missing for many monophyletic groupings. Finally, we provide the first ultrastructural clues for the extrusive character of these organelles. 相似文献

Tintinnids are a large group of planktonic ciliates with diverse morphologies. The range of variability in lorica shapes and sizes can be very high even within a single species depending on life stages and environmental conditions, which makes the delimitation of different species based on morphological criteria alone very difficult. Accordingly, comparisons of morphological and molecular variability in tintinnids are necessary to provide a pragmatic approach for establishing species boundaries within this diverse and poorly understood group. We investigated the temporal distribution of species of the hyaline tintinnid Helicostomella (Ciliophora, Tintinnina), which were collected daily from September 2008 to August 2009 in Jangmok Bay of Geoje Island on the south coast of Korea. Two forms - a long form and a short form, were discovered. The long form was found in cold waters in February and March whereas the short form occurred in warm waters from June to October. Thus, these two forms were seasonally isolated. However, all the morphological characteristics for these two forms overlap to some degree. A comparison of the small subunit (SSU) rDNA, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2, and ITS2 sequences from two forms revealed 0.5%, 3.8%, and 5.6% divergences, respectively. Morever, one compensatory base change (CBC) and three hemi-CBCs were identified from ITS2 secondary structures of these two forms. All these data suggest that these two forms represent two distinct species despite their highly similar lorica morphology. The phylogenetic position of the genus Helicostomella was also examined using SSU rDNA sequences. 相似文献

ABSTRACT. Unusual prostomatid specimens were found in the biological reactor of a wastewater treatment plant in a health resort in Valencia, Spain. These ciliates were attached to flocs unlike other free‐swimming prostomatid ciliates described to date in the mixed liquor of activated sludge plants. The morphological study of this species led to a typically different combination of characteristics: elongated cell shape, 20–30 somatic kineties, 2 perioral kineties, and 1 circumoral kinety, 1 large vacuole protruding at the terminal end, a lorica tapered toward the aperture with a smooth neck, and 11–16 annular ridges. These characteristics place this representative as a new species of the genus Metacystis—Metacystis galiani n. sp. This species became the dominant population within the biological reactor when high values of conductivity (4,244 mS/cm) and temperature (26.8 °C) were recorded. 相似文献

The two recently established genera ApostrombidiumXu et al., 2009 and VaristrombidiumXu et al., 2009 and the analysis of ontogenetic data in Strombidium constrictum, S. montagnesi, S. wilberti, Omegastrombidium elegans, and Paratontonia gracillima necessitated a revision of the hypothesis about the somatic ciliary pattern evolution in oligotrichid ciliates. As a consequence, the species-rich genus Strombidium was split, establishing two genera for species with a horizontal girdle kinety posterior to the oral primordium: Opisthostrombidium nov. gen. with the extrusome attachment sites along the anterior margin of the girdle kinety and posterior to the oral primordium and Foissneridium nov. gen. with the extrusome attachment sites distinctly apart from the girdle kinety and anterior to the oral primordium. The ontogenetic data revealed that the Ω-shaped girdle kinety pattern evolved convergently from the Pseudotontonia pattern with its horizontal girdle kinety in the tailed genus Paratontonia and from the Novistrombidium pattern with its dextrally spiralled girdle kinety in the tailless genus Omegastrombidium. The somatic ciliary pattern of the latter genus probably gave rise to the patterns of Apostrombidium and Varistrombidium. 相似文献

Protospathidium serpens (Kahl, 1930) is frequent in semiterrestrial and terrestrial habitats worldwide. Conventionally, all populations are considered as conspecific because they have very similar overall morphologies and morphometrics. We studied in detail not only the morphology of the vegetative cells but also the resting cysts using live observation, protargol impregnation, and scanning electron microscopy. These revealed a cryptic diversity and biogeographic pattern in details of the dorsal brush and cyst wall morphology. The cyst wall is spiny in the Austrian specimens, while smooth in the South African and Antarctic populations. Accordingly, P. serpens consists of at least two species: P. serpens (with spiny cyst wall) and P. fraterculum n. sp. (with smooth cyst wall); the latter is probably composed of two distinct taxa differing by the absence (South African)/presence (Antarctic) of a monokinetidal bristle tail in brush row 3, the number of dikinetids comprising brush row 1 (seven versus three), and the total number of brush dikinetids (29 versus 17). Protospathidium serpens is neotypified with the new population from Austria. The significance of resting cyst morphology is discussed with respect to alpha-taxonomy and overall ciliate diversity. 相似文献

We collected Rimaleptus binucleatus from soil in the surroundings of the town of Ulsan, South Korea. Its morphology and 18S rRNA gene were studied using standard methods. This possibly widely distributed species is characterized by: (i) a size of about 170–400 × 20–65 μm; (ii) a narrowly to cylindrically dileptid body with proboscis occupying about 30–65% of body length; (iii) two dorsal contractile vacuoles; (iv) two size groups of rod-shaped extrusomes; and (v) about 18–29 ciliary rows, 4–6 of them anteriorly differentiated into a staggered dorsal brush. Phylogenetic analyses of five new rhynchostomatian 18S rRNA gene sequences supported monophylies of the orders Tracheliida and Dileptida, but revealed that the genera Rimaleptus and Pseudomonilicaryon are polyphyletic. Monophyly of genera with two macronuclear nodules was consistently rejected, but monophylies of dileptids with many scattered macronuclear nodules and of dileptids with moniliform macronucleus and multi-rowed dorsal brush could not be excluded by statistical topology tests. Nevertheless, phylogenetic network analyses indicated considerable conflict in the phylogenetic signal provided by the 18S rRNA gene to resolve unambiguously relationships among dileptid genera. 相似文献

A new tintinnid ciliate, Tintinnopis estuariensis Zhang, Feng Yu, sp. nov. was found in the estuary of Yangtze River, China. It was most abundant in September. Its arenaceous lorica is cylindro-conical in shape,(120–180) μm×(50–75) μm in size, agglutinated with mineral particles, and open at both ends. Two characters distinguish it from others: the unique lateral flattened posterior portion with a vertical aboral opening and wider oral diameter. It occurred in water with surface temperature of 14–27°C and surface salinity of 3.9‰–29.8‰. 相似文献

The morphology and infraciliature of four marine cyrtophorid ciliates isolated from Qingdao, China, were investigated. Based on the present work and on previous data, improved diagnoses for three rarely known species are provided: (1) Mirodysteria decora; small-sized marine Mirodysteria about 35–60 × 25–35 μm in vivo, oval in outline; body surface with two or three conspicuous dorsal spines and one caudal spine; three right kineties, the rightmost one extending dorso-apically; left frontal kineties reduced, each consisting of three basal bodies only; podite subcaudally positioned; two ventrally located contractile vacuoles. (2) Dysteria legumen; body oval with two longitudinal grooves on different plates; six right kineties, the rightmost two of which extend dorso-apically; two left frontal kineties and two ventrally located contractile vacuoles. (3) Dysteria proraefrons; body about 60 × 35 μm in vivo; six right kineties, the two rightmost of which extend dorso-apically and the leftmost one is considerably shortened; three left frontal kineties; two ventrally located contractile vacuoles. A population of D. derouxi with eight or nine right kineties is also briefly described. The current investigation further demonstrates high diversity and cosmopolitan distribution of this highly specialized group of benthic ciliates. 相似文献

The mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) gene of ciliates was first successfully sequenced in species of the genera Tetrahymena and Paramecium (Class Oligohymenophorea). The sequence of the COI gene is extremely divergent from other eukaryotes and includes an insert, which is over 300 nucleotides long. In this study, we designed a primer pair that successfully amplified the COI gene of ciliates from five different classes: Heterotrichea, Spirotrichea, Oligohymenophorea, Nassophorea and Colpodea. These classes represent the diversity of the phylum Ciliophora very well, since they are widely distributed on the ciliate small subunit rRNA tree. The amplified region is approximately 850 nucleotides long and corresponds to the general barcoding region; it also includes the insert region. In this study, 58 new COI sequences from over 38 species in 13 orders are analysed and compared, and distance trees are constructed. While the COI gene shows high divergence within ciliates, the insert region, which is present in all classes, is even more divergent. Genetic distances calculated with and without the insert region remain in the same range at the intraspecific level, but they differ considerably at or above genus level. This suggests that the entire barcoding region is under similar selective constraints and that the evolutionary rate of the ciliate COI is extremely high and shows unequal rate variation. Although many problems still remain regarding standardization of barcoding methods in ciliates, the development of a universal or almost universal primer combination for the Phylum Ciliophora represents important progress. As shown in four examples, the resolution of COI at the intraspecific level is much greater than that of any nuclear genes and shows great potential to (1) identify species based on molecular data if a reliable database exists, and (2) resolve the relationships of closely related ciliate taxa and uncover cryptic species. 相似文献

A new species, Pagastia hidakamontana sp. nov., is described from the alpine zone of the Hidaka Mountains in Hokkaido, Japan. Pagastia orthogonia Oliver, so far known only from the Nearctic Region, is newly recorded from Japan and redescribed. Females of P. lanceolata (Tokunaga) and P. nivis (Tokunaga) are redescribed, and the synonymy of P. lanceolata with Syndiamesa (Lasiodiamesa) crassipilosa Tokunaga (= Pseudodiamesa crassipilosa) is proposed. Keys to males and females of Japanese species of the genus are provided. 相似文献

Eggs from seven Noctuid moth species, Eriopyga perfusca (Hampson), Magnagrotis oorti (Koehler), Pseudoleucania brosii (Koehler), Scania simillima (Koehler). Scriptania americana (Blanchard), Scriptania leucofasciata Rodriguez, were collected at La Mina, 925 msnm, (35 degrees 21' S; 71 degrees 41' W) and Paso Internacional Pchucnche (35 degrees 57' S: 70 degrees 23' W), 2560 msnm, Chile. The Scanning Electron Microscope showed that egg morphology allows identification to species level. This is particularly useful in agricultural pest control, and morphological differences are used in this report to present an updated taxonomic key to the Chilean Noctuidae. 相似文献

ABSTRACT. A membranous closing apparatus shuts the lorica opening in disturbed tintinnids of six genera belonging to four families. The homology of the apparatuses is investigated, using data from the literature and Mediterranean tintinnids studied in vivo and by scanning electron microscopy. Morphological and functional similarities indicate that the foldable closing apparatus is not only a synapomorphy of the genera Codonella (Codonellidae) and Dictyocysta (Dictyocystidae), as suggested 80 years ago, but also of Codonaria (Codonellidae) and Codonellopsis (Codonellopsidae). In Codonaria, Codonella, and Dictyocysta, the apparatuses merge posteriorly into membranous lorica sacs, which probably represent homologous structures. The diagnoses of these genera are improved according to the new findings. The close relationship of Codonella, Codonellopsis, and Dictyocysta is also inferred from small subunit rRNA phylogenies and the ultrastructure of the capsules. It contradicts the current lorica‐based classification of the tintinnids. The assumption that the diaphragm‐like apparatus in the genera Salpingacantha and Salpingella is not homologous to the foldable ones in the genera mentioned above is supported by molecular and cytological features. 相似文献
