Histogenesis of human extraparenchymal Leydig cells   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2

From 64 consecutive autopsies of patients with neither testicular nor hormonal pathology, 26 showed extraparenchymal Leydig cells, located mainly in the epididymis and in the spermatic cord. The ultrastructural study of these specimens plus those obtained from 2 patients affected with functional testicular tumors leads to the following conclusions: (1) The origin of ectopic Leydig cells is not interstitial Leydig cells having infiltrated the testicular nerves and migrated along them towards ectopic locations. (2) The ectopic Leydig cells are considered to develop from undifferentiated precursor cells, located extraparenchymally, mainly inside and beside the testicular nerves. These precursor cells are similar to those observed in the testicular interstitium and have an ovoid shape and some cytoplasmic projections. The cytoplasm contains vesicles of smooth endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, lipid droplets and abundant microfilament bundles. The transformation from these cells into mature Leydig cells implies a progressive differentiation of the cytoplasmic components involved in steroid biosynthesis.  相似文献

Four cases of primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) with unusual localization (three intraspinal extramedullary and one pontocerebellar) are reviewed. Histologically, they were small round blue cell tumors with diverse patterns. Immunohistochemically, all tumors were positive for at least two neuronal markers, two cases were Mic-2 positive and one showed glial differentiation. The paraffin-embedded tumor specimens were examined by interphase FISH using dual-color probes specific for EWS, HER-2 and BCR loci. Molecular cytogenetic study revealed the presence of EWS rearrangement in two cases and the presence of i(17q) in one tumor. Three tumors exhibited 22 disomy and one was 22 polyploid. Extraparenchymal PNETs within craniospinal axis are heterogeneous from the clinical, histological, immunohistochemical and molecular point of view. These PNETs can be of a central or peripheral type. Multidisciplinary approach is of a basic importance in differential diagnosis of such cases.  相似文献

Summary The perivascular innervation of extraparenchymal arteries of spinal cord and the radicular arteries was examined using histochemical and immunohistochemical technics in monkey. The radicular and the extraparenchymal arteries of spinal cord were found to be invested with adrenergic, neuropeptide Y, vasoactive intestinal peptide, substance P and calcitonin gene-related peptide containing nerve fibres. The pattern of arrangement of fibres differed among the various fibre types. SP-and CGRP-containing fibres were less in density as compared to other nerve plexus. There was no difference in density of an individual type of nerve fibre in arteries of different cord segments or between the radicular arteries from different levels. The study reveals the existence of a comprehensive perivascular adrenergic and peptidergic innervation of spinal cord arterial system, with a possible role in neurogenic regulation of spinal cord circulation.  相似文献

1. Alkaline-earth-metal cations at low concentrations form soluble complexes with bovine caseins. The relative order of binding capacities is: Mg(2+)>Ca(2+)>Ba(2+)>Sr(2+). 2. The cations interact with both free ionized carboxyl groups of aspartic acid and glutamic acid and with monoester phosphate groups covalently bound to serine and threonine; at low concentrations of the cations interactions are predominantly with the phosphate groups. 3. The order of binding capacities for purified components of the casein complex is: alpha(s1)-casein>beta-casein>kappa-casein.  相似文献

The conventional view of the structure of the membrane-embedded regions of integral membrane proteins is that they are in contact with lipids that interact with the hydrophobic surfaces of the polypeptide, and therefore have intrinsically rigid alpha-helical structures. Here, we briefly review the evidence that in the case of integral membrane proteins with many membrane spans (including membrane transporters and channels), some membrane peptide segments are more or less completely shielded from the lipid bilayer by other membrane polypeptide portions. These portions do not need to have alpha-helical structures and are likely to be much more flexible than typical membrane-spanning helices. The ability of the band 3 anion exchanger to accommodate anionic substrates of different sizes, geometries, and charge distributions suggests the presence of flexible regions in the active center of this protein. These flexible substructures may have important functional roles in membrane proteins, particularly in the mechanisms of membrane transporters and channels.  相似文献

The petrochemical industry has grown to meet the need for massive production of energy and commodities along with an explosive population growth; however, serious side effects such as greenhouse gas emissions and global warming have negatively impacted the environment. Lignocellulosic biomass with myriad quantities on Earth is an attractive resource for the production of carbon-neutral fuels and chemicals through environmentally friendly processes of microbial fermentation. This review discusses metabolic engineering efforts to achieve economically feasible industrial production of fuels and chemicals from microbial cell factories using the carbohydrate portion of lignocellulosic biomass as substrates. The combined knowledge of systems biology and metabolic engineering has been applied to construct robust platform microorganisms with maximum conversion of monomeric sugars, such as glucose and xylose, derived from lignocellulosic biomass. By comprehensively revisiting carbon conversion pathways, we provide a rationale for engineering strategies, as well as their features, feasibility, and recent representative studies. In addition, we briefly discuss how tools in systems biology can be applied in the field of metabolic engineering to accelerate the development of microbial cell factories that convert lignocellulosic biomass into carbon-neutral fuels and chemicals with economic feasibility.  相似文献

Objective: Whether developmental periods exist in which children become particularly sensitive to environmental influences on eating is unclear. This research evaluated the effects of age on intake of large and self‐selected portions among children 2 to 9 years of age. Research Methods and Procedures: Seventy‐five non‐Hispanic white children 2 to 3, 5 to 6, and 8 to 9 years of age were seen at a dinner meal in reference, large, and self‐selected portion size conditions in which the size of an entrée was age‐appropriate, doubled, and determined by the child, respectively. Weighed food intake data were collected. Entrée bite size and bite frequency were assessed. Height and weight measurements were obtained. Results: The effect of age on children's intake of the large portion was not significant. Entrée consumption was 29% greater (p < 0.001) and meal energy intake was 13% greater (p < 0.01) in the large portion condition than in the reference condition. Increases in entrée consumption were attributable to increases in average bite size (p < 0.001). Neither child weight nor maternal weight predicted children's intake of large portions. Self‐selection resulted in decreased entrée (p < 0.05) and meal energy (p < 0.01) only among those children who ate more when served the large portion. Discussion: The results of this research confirm that serving large entrée portions promotes increased intake at meals among 2‐ to 9‐year‐old children. These findings suggest that any age‐related differences in children's response to large portions are likely to be smaller than previously suspected.  相似文献

Summary Electron microscopic studies show that transplanted segments of sensory axons of varying lengths degenerate within 7–14 days whereas transplanted segments of crustacean motor axons survive morphologically intact for 20–30 days. The middle portion of an isolated motor axon segment degenerates less rapidly than portions of the same axon located nearer the periphery or nearer the ventral nerve cord. One week after transplantation, glial cells appear to phagocytize sensory axons whereas glial cells around motor axons appear to hypertrophy and to have more rough endoplasmic reticulum. After three weeks, motor axons also appear to be phagocytized by glial cells.These data suggest that the glia surrounding isolated motor axons can change from a supportive to a destructive function, whereas glial cells surrounding severed sensory axons primarily have a destructive function. These and other data also indicate that crustacean motor axons receive significant trophic inputs from their own perikaryon, from post-synaptic contacts, and from adjacent glial cells. In four groups of rats: with medial amygdala lesions, AMe, sham operated medial, AMe-C, with lateral amygdala lesions, LA, and sham operated lateral, LA-C,--motor activity was tested in small electro-magnetic cages before and after ablations. The obtained data showed an increase of motor activity only in AMe rats. Possible functional differentiation of modulatory mechanisms of the amygdala is discussed.  相似文献
