The project is an international comparative study on risk and protective factors of adolescent health and well-being, with particular focus on youth with immigrant (or refugee) experience. This is a comprehensive study on the quality of life and health outcomes of adolescent youth that looks at group-specific differences within different socio-cultural contexts across six European countries, including those of post-conflict communities. The research project combines both quantitative and qualitative methods, using a common set up across all countries involved with the goal of collecting data on 3500 adolescents that are strictly comparable to allow cross-country analyses. It is particularly aimed at increasing the understanding of acculturation processes of a particularly sensitive population of adolescent refugees and immigrants and of the influence that the interaction of contextual and developmental factors has on their mental health and psychological well-being. in COll. 【背景】孕妇体重过度增长在全球范围内呈现上升趋势,对母亲和子代健康均会造成不良影响。肠道菌群与人体众多疾病相关,其有可能作为重要的调节因素影响母婴健康。【目的】研究孕晚期孕妇肠道菌群的多样性和群落组成,探讨孕期体重增长对肠道菌群的影响。【方法】收集62位孕晚期(36.82±2.19孕周)孕妇粪便样本,利用MiSeq高通量测序技术对样品中16SrRNA基因V3-V4区序列进行测序,分析不同孕期体重增长水平的孕妇肠道菌群的多样性、群落结构和物种丰度,探讨孕期体重增长对孕妇肠道菌群的影响。【结果】与正常孕妇相比,孕期体重增长过度孕妇肠道菌群多样性显著降低,群落结构变化不大;在菌群组成上,筛选出5个与孕期体重增长最为相关的菌群,分别为Alistipes spp.、Eubacterium-nodatum group spp.、Oxalobacter spp.、Raoultella spp.和Odoribacter spp.,其中Alistipesspp.不仅是相关程度最高也是丰度最高的菌群,与孕期体重增长密切相关。【结论】孕期体重增长对孕晚期孕妇肠道菌群群落结构影响显著,在孕期保持肠道菌群稳态能够促进母婴健康。 相似文献

In humans, type II diabetes mellitus is a condition in which the pancreas is capable of producing insulin but cells do not appropriately respond to insulin with an uptake of glucose. While multiple factors are associated with type II diabetes in humans, a high calorie diet and limited exercise are significant risk factors for the development of this disease. Zoo primates, with relatively high caloric density diets and sedentary lifestyles, may experience similar conditions that could predispose them to the development of diabetes. We surveyed all Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) facilities with primates in their collections to determine the prevalence of diabetes, diagnosis and treatment methods, and treatment outcomes. Nearly 30% of responding institutions reported at least one diabetic primate in their current collection. Although the majority of reported cases were in Old World Monkeys (51%), all major taxonomic groups were represented. Females represented nearly 80% of the diagnosed cases. A wide variety of diagnosing, monitoring, and treatment techniques were reported. It is clear from these results diabetes should be considered prominently in decisions relating to diet, weight and activity levels in zoo‐housed primates, as well as discussions surrounding animal health and welfare. Objective: We examined whether associations between dietary components and, in particular, energy density (ED) predicted subsequent 5‐year weight changes. Research Methods and Procedures: The present longitudinal population study was part of the Danish World Health Organization Multinational Monitoring of Trends and Determinants in Cardiovascular Disease (MONICA) and the 1936 cohort dietary studies. Effects of components were studied in relation to subsequent 5‐year weight changes in 862 men and 900 women, 30 to 60 years old. Linear multiple regression analyses were conducted. Results: Mean 5‐year changes in body weight (BW) were 1.2 ± 3.9 and 1.3 ± 4.6 kg for men and women, respectively. In general, neither ED nor any of the dietary components was associated with subsequent change in BW. In women, ED was positively associated with weight gain among the obese (BMI > 30 kg/m2) and inversely associated with weight gain in normal‐weight women (BMI < 25 kg/m2) (p = 0.01). However, in men there was a non‐ significant inverse trend between ED and weight gain in the obese and no significant interaction. Discussion: To our knowledge, this is the first prospective study to examine the associations between ED and subsequent changes in BW, and despite a general belief that ED is a major determinant of obesity, the present study did not generally lend support for an association. However, among certain subgroups, an energy‐dense diet may be a risk factor for weight development. 相似文献

Melengestrol acetate (MGA) subcutaneous implants were used in seven adult female Hamadryas baboons to study the effects of chronic progestin administration on perineal swelling, behavior, and weight gain. At the dose level used (≥8 mg/kg body weight), cycles of perineal tumescence ceased and swellings subsided. Social dynamics were not significantly altered during treatment, and only minor changes in agonistic interactions were noted following implant removal. Body weight increased by 17.3–47.6% during treatment despite decreased time spent foraging. This paradox may be explained by 1) foraging time not necessarily corresponding to total intake and 2) the nonsignificant trend toward lower levels of activity during treatment. Treatment with MGA can be recommended based on its ability to suppress ovarian cyclicity without causing social disruption. However, because this and other progestins stimulate weight gain, their use is contraindicated in overweight or obese animals. © 1995 Wiley-Liss, Inc. 相似文献

Objective: The objective was to evaluate a 3‐year nationwide mass media campaign aimed at preventing weight gain. The campaign was aimed primarily at raising awareness of the importance of weight‐gain prevention and bringing these issues to the attention of the Dutch public. Research Methods and Procedures: Eleven serial, independent, cross‐sectional, population‐based telephone surveys were used to assess campaign awareness and impact (N ranged between 483 and 493 for each of the 11 surveys). The surveys were conducted before and after six campaign waves. Multiple linear and logistic regression analyses were used to test for trends over time and for differences among the surveys for campaign awareness, message recall, perceived body weight status, overweight‐related risk perceptions, attitudes, perceived social support, self‐efficacy expectations, and motivations for preventing weight gain. Results: Campaign awareness ranged from 61% after the 1st campaign wave to 88.4% after the final wave. The campaign's television broadcasting activities were an important source of campaign awareness, from both the campaign's television commercials and television‐based free publicity. Message recall ranged from 41.9% to 68.1%. Small positive differences were found in attitudes, perceived social support, and intentions for preventing weight gain. Additionally, the results suggest mixed effects on self‐efficacy expectations and a negative effect on risk perception. Discussion: The campaign resulted in high campaign awareness, especially as a result of television commercials and free publicity on television. The results suggest that the campaign was able to create more positive attitudes and motivation but lower risk perceptions and efficacy for preventing weight gain. 相似文献

Six series of individual feeding experiments (altogether 544 animals) with different energy supply and connected with steps slaughteries and whole‐body analyses, constructed carried out and analysed upon the same aspects, were regression analytically interpreted with the aim of quantify the relation of empty body weight to live weight. The relation of empty body weight to live weight showed a nonlinear dependence on the live weight as well as on the age of animals. The assessment of the metabolizability of energy of the diet as an additional variable reduced the residual variation considerably. Therefore from the knowledge of live weight or age of the animals, and the metabolizability of energy of the diet the relation of empty body weight to live weight of black and white bulls could be calculated. Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine beliefs regarding reasons for weight gain, likely responses to weight loss relapse, notions of reasonable weight loss, and correlations between beliefs and attitudes in a large nonclinical sample of men and women with obesity. Research Methods and Procedures : Participants were 3,394 white women (n= 1,674) and men (n = 1,720) with obesity who had responded to a survey about body image and eating behaviors conducted by Consumer Reports magazine. Results : Women and men indicated that the most important reasons for their weight gain were lack of exercise and enjoying eating; the least important reason was a need to avoid social or sexual situations. Both groups reported that their most likely response to relapse is to start watching food intake, whereas their least likely response is to ask a friend, spouse, or family member for help. Women rated depression, stress, low self-esteem, and need to avoid situations as more important reasons for their weight gain than did men, and women were more likely to feel terrible and regain as a response to relapse. There was no relationship between an individual's beliefs about weight gain, responses to relapse, or notions of reasonable weight loss. Discussion : Implications of these findings for the treatment of obesity are discussed. 相似文献

Fatness stigma is pervasive. Being fat is widely regarded a bad thing, and fat persons suffer numerous social and material disadvantages in virtue of their weight being regarded that way. Despite the seriousness of this problem, it has received relatively little attention from analytic philosophers. In this paper, I set out to explore whether there is a reasoned basis for stigmatizing fatness, and, if so, what forms of stigmatization could be justified. I consider two lines of reasoning that might be advanced to defend fat stigma. The first is broadly consequentialist. It seeks to justify stigmatizing fatness based on the public health benefits that might be produced by doing so. The second argument takes stigmatizing fatness to be a warranted response to the morally blameworthy failure to slim down exhibited by fat persons. Clarifying and assessing each of these two lines of reasoning is the main task of this paper. I argue that, upon careful examination, both these attempts to justify the stigmatization of fatness fail. 相似文献

Objective: Dependence on motorized forms of transportation may contribute to the worldwide obesity epidemic. Shifts in transportation patterns occurring in China provide an ideal opportunity to study the association between vehicle ownership and obesity. Our objective was to determine whether motorized forms of transportation promote obesity. Research Methods and Procedures: A multistage random‐cluster sampling process was used to select households from eight provinces in China. Data were included on household vehicle ownership and individual anthropometric and sociodemographic status. Cross‐sectional data (1997) from 4741 Chinese adults aged 20 to 55 years were used to explore the association between vehicle ownership and obesity. Cohort data (1989 to 1997) from 2485 adults aged 20 to 45 years in 1989 (59% follow‐up) were used to measure the impact of vehicle acquisition on the odds of becoming obese. Results: Our main outcome measure was current obesity status and the odds of becoming obese over an 8‐year period. In 1997, 84% of adults did not own motorized transportation. However, the odds of being obese were 80% higher (p < 0.05) for men and women in households who owned a motorized vehicle compared with those who did not own a vehicle. Fourteen percent of households acquired a motorized vehicle between 1989 and 1997. Compared with those whose vehicle ownership did not change, men who acquired a vehicle experienced a 1.8‐kg greater weight gain (p < 0.05) and had 2 to 1 odds of becoming obese. Discussion: Encouraging active forms of transportation may be one way to protect against obesity. 相似文献

Objective: To assess the association of dietary fat and weight gain among adult women and to investigate whether offspring of overweight parents have a greater predisposition to weight gain due to intake of dietary fat. Research Methods and Procedures: This was an 8‐year follow‐up of 41,518 women in the Nurses’ Health Study (NHS), a population‐based, prospective cohort. The women were 41 to 68 years of age, free of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes in 1986 when “baseline” weight and diet were assessed. Eight years later (1994), changes in weight and dietary intake were assessed. Linear regression models were used to relate change in weight to fat intake and change in fat intake, using the percentage of energy from carbohydrate as the comparison, adjusted for age, BMI in 1986, leisure time physical activity, time spent sitting, percent of calories from protein, and change in percentage of calories from protein. Results: Overall, there was a weak positive association between total fat intake (β = 0.11) and weight gain. Increases in monosaturated and polyunsaturated fat were not associated with weight gain, but increases in animal fat, saturated fat, and trans fat had a positive association with weight change. There was not strong evidence of effect modification by parental weight status (p = 0.7 to 0.8 for percentage of calories from total fat, animal fat, and vegetable fat); however, the associations were stronger among the overweight compared with leaner women (p < 0.05 for percentage of calories from each type of fat). Among overweight women, for every one percentage increase in percentage of calories from trans fat, women gained an additional 2.3 lb (95% confidence interval, 1.80 to 2.86). Conclusion: Our results show that, overall, percent of calories from fat has only a weak positive association with weight gain; however, percentage of calories from animal, saturated, and trans fat has stronger associations. There was no clear evidence that the diet‐weight gain association was stronger among offspring of overweight parents, but dietary fat was associated with greater weight gain among overweight women. 相似文献

This study aimed to determine the consequences of altering the fatty acid profile of sow diets during mid-to-late gestation; oils of different fatty acid composition were chosen as energy supplements to provide diets with different fatty acid profiles. Forty-eight multiparous sows were used to evaluate the effects of fat supplementation from day 60 of gestation until parturition. Sows were allocated to either 3 kg/day of commercial sow pellets (control; C) or an experimental diet consisting of 3 kg/day of commercial sow pellets supplemented with 10% extra energy in the form of excess pellets (E), palm oil (P), olive oil (O), sunflower oil (S) or fish oil (F). From days 0 to 60 of gestation, all sows were given 3 kg/day of sow pellets as for the C group. The E diet resulted in the heaviest piglets at birth whereas the offspring of O and S sows were the lightest at birth. The offspring of S sows remained lighter throughout the pre-weaning period, and were also the leanest by 14 days of age. In contrast, pigs born to S sows possessed more fat by the time they reached commercial end point (≈140 days of age). In conclusion, altering the fatty acid profile of the sow diet during the second half of gestation has long-term consequences for the development of their offspring. 相似文献

Objective : Weight gain occurs frequently in men aged 25–40. This study compared the effectiveness of a clinic-based and a home-based intervention with a no-treatment control group in preventing this weight gain. Research Methods and Procedures : Men (n = 67)—aged 25 to 40, sedentary, with a body mass index of 22 to 30, recruited from the University of Pittsburgh—were randomly assigned to 4-month treatments focused on increasing aerobic exercise and reducing fat intake through a clinic-based (CB) or a home-based (HB) program, or to a de-layed-treatment control group. Subjects were reassessed at 4 months. Results : Adherence and outcome did not differ significantly between the CB and HB programs, except that CB subjects recorded their food intake more frequently, and a greater number of CB subjects achieved a total of 120 miles of exercise over the 4 months. Subjects in the two intervention conditions combined lost significantly more weight (-1.6 ± 2.5 kg) than control subjects, who gained 0.2 ±1.9 kg (p<0.01); this effect of treatment was seen primarily in men with a body mass index of 27 to 30 (-2.7 kg for CB and HB combined vs. +1.5 kg for control). Treated subjects also had somewhat greater improvements in body composition, aerobic fitness, and weekly energy expenditure than controls, although these differences did not reach significance. Discussions: Both CB and HB intervention show promise in preventing weight gain in young men, especially in those who are slightly overweight. Larger studies, using more representative samples of young men, appear warranted. 相似文献

Recent hypotheses suggest that for women who develop morbid obesity, increases in weight associated with pregnancy may represent a significant contribution to their obesity status. The effects of multiple pregnancies on weight gain were studied in 96 morbidly obese women (<13.6 kg over ideal weight at ages 20–24 or before an earlier first pregnancy and currently >44.5 kg over ideal weight) and 115 random control women from the Utah population. Self-reported weights for each pregnancy included: prepregnancy, greatest during pregnancy, and 6 weeks following delivery, which were validated against available hospital records. Mean number of pregnancies in each group were similar (4.2 and 4.3), ranging from 1 to 9. Mean current age was 46 and mean weight gain since ages 20–24 was 46.0 kg in the morbidly obese and 14.1 kg in controls. Regression of current weight on total number of pregnancies, adjusting for weight at ages 20–24, showed a 1.3 kg/pregnancy increase in current weight (p=0.03) with no difference between groups (p=0.6). Weight gain subsequent to the last pregnancy was not related to the number of pregnancies (p=0.2). Morbidly obese women gained more weight during pregnancy than controls only for the first pregnancy. Gains were similar for all other pregnancies. Morbidly obese women had smaller weight losses after delivery than the controls, but these differences were not significant. For the first pregnancy, morbidly obese women had a net weight retention that was 4.0 kg greater than the controls at 6 weeks post-partum and an average of 1.6 kg/pregnancy greater retention for the remaining pregnancies. Pregnancy weight gains for each pregnancy subsequent to the first pregnancy were constant. These findings suggest: 1) women who develop morbid obesity have slightly less weight loss after delivery and greater between-pregnancy weight gains than controls; 2) the number of pregnancies does not affect the amount of weight gained after the last pregnancy; and 3) while multiparity may augment weight gain in morbidly obese women, it is probably not a primary factor in the later development of morbid obesity. 相似文献

To date, there have been very few studies on the primary prevention of obesity and/or weight gain. This paper identifies three time periods that might be appropriate for such efforts at weight gain prevention-the 25 to 35 year age window, the perimeno pausal period, and the year following successful weight loss. Research is encouraged that compares these three time periods and various intervention strategies. Several different approaches to primary prevention are identified, including group treatment pro grams with weekly meetings vs. less intensive, community- based interventions; focusing on those who are currently at ideal body weight vs. including those who are over weight as well; and targeting weight gain prevention per se vs. attempting to produce modest weight losses and/or modify cardiovascular risk factors. This paper suggests that primary prevention efforts should include exercise, changes in quality and quantity of food consumed, behavior modification, and some degree of therapist contact, but the manner in which these changes should be implemented to produce long-term habit change remains unclear. 相似文献

Objective: To compare the impact of weight regain and weight loss on health‐related quality of life. Research Methods and Procedures: Subjects were 122 (106 women, 16 men) overweight and obese participants in a weight reduction program (phentermine‐fenfluramine and dietary counseling) who had initially lost at least 5% of their total body weight and then regained at least 5% of their weight during the follow‐up period. Follow‐up periods ranged from 10 to 41 months (mean, 28 months). Participants completed the Impact of Weight on Quality of Life‐Lite, an obesity‐specific health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) measure, at 3‐month intervals. Results: Mean BMI at baseline was 40.9 ± 6.6 kg/m2 (range, 29.2 to 63.7 kg/m2). Average weight loss from entry was 18.8 ± 6.7% (range, 6.0% to 43.7%), and average regain was 10.1 ±4.4% of baseline weight (range, 5.0% to 30.6%). The effects of weight regain on HRQOL mirrored the effects of weight loss—rates of HRQOL change were similar in magnitude but different in direction for comparable weight loss and regain. Those with more severe initial impairments in HRQOL experienced greater improvements in HRQOL during weight loss as well as greater deterioration during weight regain than those with less severe impairments. Discussion: Weight loss and regain produced mirror image changes in HRQOL. The initial severity of HRQOL impairment had a greater impact on the magnitude of HRQOL change than the direction of weight change. Findings underscore the importance of maintaining weight loss for the purposes of retaining obesity‐specific HRQOL benefits. 相似文献

YOST, TRUDY J, DALAN R JENSEN AND ROBERT H ECKEL. Weight regain following sustained weight reduction is predicted by relative insulin sensitivity. Obes Res. Ten moderately obese women (body mass index 34.9 ± 1.1 kg/m2 mean ± SEM), had previously been through a 3-month weight loss program followed by 3 months of weight maintenance at the reduced weight. A euglycemic clamp for determination of insulin sensitivity was performed on each subject prior to weight loss, and another at the end of the weight maintenance phase. The mean weight loss for the group was 11.4 ± 2.2 kg. The women were then seen for follow-up weights 12 months and 18 months after the conclusion of the weight maintenance period. All of the women except one had regained their weight by the time of the 12-month visit. It was found that the amount of weight regained both at 12 months and 18 months was correlated with the change in insulin sensitivity which occurred from the baseline study to after weight loss/maintenance. The data indicate that increased insulin sensitivity following sustained weight loss in obese women predicts weight regain. 相似文献
