A brief review is given of the development of equipment used for rearing germfree animals in various laboratories and of our exparience with designing germfree isolators and with the technology of rearing germfree piglets is presented. The philosophy of isolation as applied to the animal as a biological unit, the elimination of contamination and the theoretical prerequisites of isolation were considered by Reyniers (1943, 1959) and Trexler (1960).  相似文献

Presynaptic imaging techniques   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9
Understanding the detailed molecular events that support chemical synaptic transmission requires high-resolution methods that provide quantitative information combined with molecular specificity. In recent years, many new technological approaches, including genetically encoded fluorescent indicators, ultra-thin sectioning, and live-cell imaging have been brought to bear on understanding the cell biology and physiology of presynaptic terminals.  相似文献

Surgical skin-marking techniques   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Surgical skin-marking inks and dyes are in everyday use for designing and planning incisions in plastic and reconstructive surgery. We have traced the historical development of surgical skin-marking techniques from ancient times to the present. The biochemical characteristics of the commonly used marking agents are discussed. A three-part experiment utilizing a pig model was carried out to test the tissue inflammatory response to the various dyes and inks when used intradermally as tattoos, the persistence of such tattoos, and the ease of skin erasure for each of eight stains. Methylene blue and gentian violet are recommended as the best all-purpose marking agents. The use of proprietary inks is discouraged.  相似文献
