Nicotinic acid hydrazid (NH) gave three waves at the dropping mercury electrode and can be polarographically determined. Sarkomycin nicotinic acid hydrazid derivative (SK-NH), consisting of sarkomycin (SK) and NH, gave three polarographic waves, one of which disappeared in alkaline pH region. The half-wave potential of the second wave of SK-NH was the same as that of the first wave of SK and the half-wave potential of the third wave in the acid pH region was the same as that of the second wave of NH. The relation between limiting current and concentration of SK-NH was linear, but the regression obtained by one lot of sample was different from that by another lot of sample. The regression of limiting current of the third wave at pH 8.5 upon NH content was coincident within error throughout the samples used herein.  相似文献

Summary Ablation, transplantation and culture experiments were used to determine the respective roles of the pancreatic dorsal and ventral anlagen in the formation of the endocrine cells. Three successive waves of endocrine formation occur in the pancreas of Bufo bufo at three developmental stages (III6, IV1 and IV2). Each wave is derived from a different source: the first originates from the dorsal anlage, the second from the exocrine tissue of the cortex of the pancreas and the third from the pancreatic duct. Each generation of islets has a specific composition of different cell types. The first wave is only composed of insulin islets; the second wave gives rise to single insulin, glucagon and somatostatin cells; while the third wave generates single cells synthesizing one of the three hormones, homogeneous islets of insulin cells, rare glucagon islets and heterogeneous islets containing insulin cells in the centre and a few glucagon or somatostatin cells at the periphery.  相似文献

Twenty-two Serrana goats were studied through two successive estrous cycles in order to characterize their follicular dynamics during the breeding season. The ovaries of the goats were scanned daily by real-time ultrasonography and all follicles >or=3mm were measured and classified. The data were classified by the number of follicular waves per goat to test the hypothesis that temporal and morphological differences between the last follicular wave of an ovary, irrespective of ovulation, will affect the selection of the next ovulatory wave. The mean interovulatory interval was 20.7+/-1.0 days (mean+/-S.D.). Three to five waves per estrous cycle were observed and 61.3% (19/31) of cycles had four waves. In estrous cycles with four waves, the day of onset of the first, second, third and fourth wave was 1.4+/-1.0, 6.9+/-1.4, 11.6+/-1.8 and 16.8+/-1.6, respectively. No differences (P>0.05) were found between the day of onset of the first and second waves for estrous cycles with three, four or five waves. However, the day of onset of the third and fourth waves occurred later when the number of waves per estrous cycle increased (P<0.001). The duration of the interwave interval (time between the day of onset of two consecutive waves) was longer when the second wave was ovulatory. The length of the growth phase (2.4+/-0.9 days) and size (5.9+/-0.7 mm) of the dominant follicle in the second wave were lower (P<0.01) than for the first wave (3.3+/-1.2 days and 6.6+/-0.9 mm, respectively) and the fifth wave (4.1+/-1.2 days and 7.5+/-1.0mm, respectively). Within pairs of ovaries, the onset of the last wave occurred later (P<0.05) and was less variable in ovulatory ovaries (day 16.8+/-1.4, n=20) than in anovulatory ovaries (day 15.1+/-3.7, n=20). The length of the growing phase was longer (P<0.001) in the last waves of ovulatory ovaries (3.1+/-0.9 days) than in the last waves of anovulatory ovaries (1.7+/-0.8 days). These results support the hypothesis that the day of onset of the ovulatory wave is related to or, at least, conditioned by the luteolysis and the decrease in plasma progesterone. In summary, the estrous cycle of Serrana goats is characterized by sequential follicular wave growth with a great variability in their onset and duration, with the exception of the ovulatory wave. The temporal and morphological differences observed in the last wave of estrous cycle provide strong evidence for the role of progesterone in their regulation.  相似文献

Partial hepatectomy (PH) triggers hepatocyte proliferation-mediated liver repair and is widely used to study the mechanisms governing liver regeneration in mice. However, the dynamics of the hepatocyte proliferative response to PH remain unclear. We found that PH-induced mouse liver regrowth was driven by four consecutive waves of hepatocyte replication. The first wave exhibited the highest magnitude followed by two moderate waves and one minor wave. Underlying this continuous hepatocyte replication was persistent activation of cell cycle components throughout the period of liver regeneration. Hepatocyte mitotic activity in the first three proliferative cycles showed a circadian rhythm manifested by three corresponding mitosis peaks, which were always observed at Zeitgeber time 0. The Bmal1-Clock/Wee1/Cdc2 pathway has been proposed by others to govern the circadian rhythm of hepatocyte mitosis during liver regeneration. However, we did not observe the correlations in the expression or phosphorylation of these proteins in regenerating livers. Notably, Bmal1 protein displayed frequent changes in hepatic distribution and cellular localization as the liver regrowth progressed. Further, three waves of hepatic fat accumulation occurred during hepatic regeneration. The first started before and lasted through the first round of hepatocyte proliferation, whereas the second and third occurred concomitantly with the second and third mitotic peaks, respectively. CONCLUSION: PH-induced liver regeneration consists of four continuous waves of hepatocyte proliferation coupled with three waves of hepatic fat accumulation. Bmal1, Wee1, and Cdc2 may not form a pathway regulating the circadian rhythm of hepatocyte mitosis during liver regeneration.  相似文献

It is not clear whether the turnover of ovarian follicles during the estrous cycle in cattle is continuous and independent of the phase of the cycle, or whether waves of follicular growth occur at specific times of the cycle. To clarify this controversy, the pattern of growth and regression of ovarian follicles was characterized during a complete estrous cycle in ten heifers by daily ultrasonographic examinations. Follicles greater than or equal to 5 mm were measured and their relative locations within the ovary were determined in order to follow the sequential development of each individual follicle. Results indicated the presence of either two (n = 2 heifers), three (n = 7), or four (n = 1) waves of follicular growth per cycle. Each wave was characterized by the development of one large (dominant) follicle and a variable number of smaller (non-dominant) follicles. In the most common pattern observed (three waves/cycle), the first, second, and third waves started on Days 1.9 +/- 0.3, 9.4 +/- 0.5, and 16.1 +/- 0.7 (X +/- SEM), respectively. The dominant follicle in the third wave was the ovulatory follicle. The maximal size and the growth rate of the dominant follicle in the second wave were significantly lower than in the other waves, but no significant difference was observed between the first and third waves. For the two heifers that had two follicular waves/cycle, the waves started on Days 2 and 11, whereas in the remaining heifer (four waves/cycle), the waves began on Days 2, 8, 14, and 17, respectively. At 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 days before estrus, the ovulatory follicle was the largest follicle in the ovaries in 100%, 95%, 74%, 35%, and 25% of follicular phases monitored, respectively. The relative size of the preovulatory follicle at the completion of luteolysis (progesterone less than 1 ng/ml) was negatively correlated (r = -0.90; p less than 0.0001) with the interval of time between the end of luteolysis and the luteinizing hormone surge, suggesting that the length of proestrus is determined by the size of the pre-ovulatory follicle at the beginning of proestrus. In conclusion, this study shows that the development of ovarian follicles greater than or equal to 5 mm in heifers occurs in waves and that the most common pattern is three waves per estrous cycle.  相似文献

Background

A striking characteristic of the past four influenza pandemic outbreaks in the United States has been the multiple waves of infections. However, the mechanisms responsible for the multiple waves of influenza or other acute infectious diseases are uncertain. Understanding these mechanisms could provide knowledge for health authorities to develop and implement prevention and control strategies.

Materials and Methods

We exhibit five distinct mechanisms, each of which can generate two waves of infections for an acute infectious disease. The first two mechanisms capture changes in virus transmissibility and behavioral changes. The third mechanism involves population heterogeneity (e.g., demography, geography), where each wave spreads through one sub-population. The fourth mechanism is virus mutation which causes delayed susceptibility of individuals. The fifth mechanism is waning immunity. Each mechanism is incorporated into separate mathematical models, and outbreaks are then simulated. We use the models to examine the effects of the initial number of infected individuals (e.g., border control at the beginning of the outbreak) and the timing of and amount of available vaccinations.

Results

Four models, individually or in any combination, reproduce the two waves of the 2009 H1N1 pandemic in the United States, both qualitatively and quantitatively. One model reproduces the two waves only qualitatively. All models indicate that significantly reducing or delaying the initial numbers of infected individuals would have little impact on the attack rate. Instead, this reduction or delay results in a single wave as opposed to two waves. Furthermore, four of these models also indicate that a vaccination program started earlier than October 2009 (when the H1N1 vaccine was initially distributed) could have eliminated the second wave of infection, while more vaccine available starting in October would not have eliminated the second wave.  相似文献

In this study of electrically-evoked auditory brain-stem responses (EABRs) elicited by cochlear nucleus stimulation, 3 waves were identified after the initial wave that is directly initiated by the electric stimulus. Varying the rate of periodic stimulation or the interval between pairs of stimuli revealed that the shorter the latency of a wave, the faster it recovered from activation (i.e. shorter refractory period). The slow recovery of the third wave and an accompanying contribution to the second wave could be accounted for by postsynaptic generation in the two medial superior olivary nuclei (MSO); the faster recovery of another contribution to the second wave by generation in an axonal tract bending around the contralateral MSO; and the fastest recovery of the first wave by another axonal pathway having larger axons. Comparison with the relative latencies and spatial distribution of an acoustically-evoked auditory brain-stem response (AABR) indicated that the third wave corresponds to wave V, the second to wave IV (called IVb), and the first to a wave that precedes wave IV (called IVa). The anatomical interpretations for the two later waves of the EABR are consistent with most of the extant data on the neural generators of AABR waves IV and V. Thus, the present data and analysis strengthen the identification of the electrically evoked responses as EABRs and provide a firmer foundation for intra-operative EABR monitoring to assist auditory brain-stem implant placement.  相似文献

The egg of ascidians (urochordate), as virtually all animal and plant species, displays Ca2+ signals upon fertilisation. These Ca2+ signals are repetitive Ca2+ waves that initiate in the cortex of the egg and spread through the whole egg interior. Two series of Ca2+ waves triggered from two distinct Ca2+ wave pacemakers entrain the two meiotic divisions preceding entry into the first interphase. The second messenger inositol (1,4,5) trisphosphate (IP3) is the main mediator of these global Ca2+ waves. Other Ca2+ signalling pathways (RyR and NAADPR) are functional in the egg but they mediate localised cortical Ca2+ signals whose physiological significance remains unclear. The meiosis I Ca2+ wave pacemaker is mobile and relies on intracellular Ca2+ release from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) induced by a large production of IP3 at the sperm aster site. The meiosis II Ca2+ wave pacemaker is stably localised in a vegetal protrusion called the contraction pole. It is probable that a local production of IP3 in the contraction pole determines the site of this second pacemaker while functional interactions between ER and mitochondria regulate its activity. Finally, a third ectopic pacemaker can be induced by a global increase in IP3, making the ascidian egg a unique system where three different Ca2+ wave pacemakers coexist in the same cell.  相似文献

In this study, the characteristics of ovarian follicular waves and patterns of serum concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol, and progesterone were compared between cycles with three (n = 9) or four (n = 10) follicular waves in Western White Face (WWF) ewes (Ovis aries). Transrectal ultrasonography and blood sampling were performed daily during one cycle. Estrous cycles were 17.11 ± 0.3 and 17.20 ± 0.2 d long in cycles with three and four waves, respectively (P > 0.05). The first interwave interval and the interval from the emergence of the final wave to the day of ovulation were longer in cycles with three waves compared with those in cycles with four waves (P < 0.05). The growth phase (5.1 ± 0.5 vs. 3.1 ± 0.4 d) and life span (5.67 ± 0.3 vs. 4.3 ± 0.3 d) of the largest follicle growing in the last or ovulatory wave was longer in cycles with three waves compared with that in cycles with four waves (P < 0.05). The maximum diameter of the largest follicle was greater in the first wave and the ovulatory wave compared with that in other waves of the cycle (P < 0.05). The regression phase of the largest follicle growing in the first wave was longer in cycles with three waves compared with that in cycles with four waves (4.44 ± 0.4 vs. 3.4 ± 0.4 d; P < 0.05). The length of the life span, regression phase, and, although not significant in every case, FSH peak concentration and amplitude decreased across the cycle (P < 0.05). We concluded that estrous cycles with three or four follicular waves were confined within the same length of cycle in WWF ewes. In this study, there were no apparent endocrine or follicular characteristics that could explain the regulation of the different number of follicular waves (three vs. four) during cycles of similar length.  相似文献

Evolutionary developmental biology (Evo-Devo) aims to unveil how developmental processes and mechanisms become modified during evolution and how from these changes the past and present biodiversity arose. The first wave of Evo-Devo identified a conserved set of toolkits common to most metazoans. The present second wave has changed gear and aims to identify how genes and modules were used differently through evolution to build the past and present morphological diversity. The burgeoning third wave is introducing experimental testing of predictions drawn from the first and second waves. Here we review some of the hottest topics, contributions and insights of present Evo-Devo related to basic concepts and paradigms of evolutionary research. Future directions of Evo-Devo are also highlighted; in other words, Quo Vadis, Evo-Devo?  相似文献

The epaxial muscles of the body are localized in a dorsomedial position with respect to the axial structures, attach to the vertebral column and are concerned with maintenance of posture and movements of the vertebral column. The epaxial musculature derives from the myotome, a transient embryonic structure whose formation is initiated at the epithelial somite stage and is accomplished following complete dissociation of the epithelial dermomyotome. Recent results suggest that myotome development is a multistage process, characterized by addition of sequential waves of muscle progenitors. A first wave originates along the medial part of the epithelial somite and gives rise to a primary myotomal structure; a second wave arises from the rostral and caudal lips of the epithelial dermomyotome and from the dorsomedial lip, which contributes indirectly through the rostral and caudal edges, and a third wave which is composed of mitotically active resident progenitors accounts for significant growth of the myotomal mass and for its transition into epaxial muscle. In this review we discuss the origin, migration and known cellular and molecular features that characterize each wave of progenitors that colonize the myotome.  相似文献

The growth, selection, regression and ovulation of ovarian follicles was ultrasonically monitored in 30 Murrah buffalo throughout a spontaneous estrous cycle during the breeding season (autumn). Examinations revealed that follicular growth during the estrous cycle occurs in waves; the buffalo showed 1-wave (3.3%, n = 1), 2-wave (63.3%, n = 19) or 3-wave (33.3%, n = 10) follicular growth. The first wave began at 1.00, 1.16 +/-0.50 and 1.10 +/- 0.32 d in buffalo with 1, 2 and 3 waves, respectively (ovulation = Day 0). The second wave appeared at 10.83 +/- 1.09 and 9.30 +/- 1.25 d (P < 0.01) for the 2 and 3 wave cycle animals, respectively. The third wave started at 16.80 +/- 1.22 d. Structural persistence of the first dominant follicle was longer in the 2- than 3-wave cycles (20.67 +/- 1.18 vs 17.90 +/- 3.47 d ; P < 0.05). The duration of the growth and static phases of the first dominant follicle differed between the 2 and 3 wave cycles (P < 0.05), whereas there were no differences in linear growth rates (cm/d). Two and three wave cycles differed (P < 0.05) with respect to the maximum diameter of both the first dominant follicle (1.51 +/- 0.24 vs 1.33 +/- 0.18 cm) and the ovulatory follicles (1.55 +/- 0.16 vs 1.34 +/- 0.13 cm). No relationship was found between dominant follicle development and the presence of either a CL or a previous dominant follicle in either ovary. Two and three wave cycles also differed with respect to the mean length of intervals between ovulation (22.27 +/- 0.89 vs 24.50 +/- 1.88 d; P < 0.01) and the mean length of luteal phases (10.40 +/- 2.11 vs 12.66 +/- 2.91 d; P < 0.05). These results demonstrate that buffalo have estrous cycles with 1, 2 or 3 follicular waves; that 2-wave cycles are the most common; and that the number of waves in a cycle is associated with the luteal phase and with estrous cycle length.  相似文献

Erythroid carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity of chick embryos from the third day of incubation to the egg hatching has been determined. Five minor activity peaks with maxima at 3, 6, 9, 15 and 17 days of development and a major one with maximum at 19 days have been found. The correlation between the peak distribution and the timing of release into the blood stream of waves of newly produced erythroid cells has been demonstrated on the basis of the following observations: 1) a linear correlation exists between red cell maturation and increase of CA activity; 2) chick red cells undergo lysis in the "Ørskov" medium when their CA activity exceeds a threshold value (23±3 Units/109 red cells); and 3) the lysis kinetics of red cells in the Ørskov medium is proportional to their CA content. We have thus been able to distinguish the immature erythroid forms from the mature ones on the basis of their behaviour in the Ørskov medium. In the blood of developing chick embryos, we have found waves of newly produced red cells at about 2, 4, 7, 10, 16 and 18 days of development.
The same experimental criteria allowed us to detect the waves of red cell production in the erythropoietic organs. One wave has been detected in the blood islands at about 2 days; four waves in the yolk sac at about 5, 6, 11 and 15 days; two waves in the spleen at about 18 and 20 days; two waves in the bone marrow at about 19 days of incubation and 1 day after hatching.
Primitive erythroid cells are produced in the first two waves: that of blood islands at 2 days and that of yolk sac at 5 days. Definitive red cells are produced in the other waves with the exception of the second wave of spleen and of the second wave of bone marrow, which are constituted by red cells of adult type.  相似文献

Electrochemical studies on actinomycin D (1) and two analogs, 2-amino-3-phenoxazone (2) and 1,2,4-trichloro-7-nitrophenoxazone (3) were analyzed by polarography and ESR spectroscopy. The polarograms of the three compounds in acetonitrile all show two reduction waves. ESR experiments confirm that the first reduction wave corresponds to a one-electron transfer process which produces a phenoxazone free radical anion and the second wave corresponds to a subsequent one-electron transfer producing a diamagnetic dianion. Substitution with electron-withdrawing groups such as NO2 (at C-7) and chloro (at C-1, C-2 and C-4)3 facilitated the reduction of the phenoxazone ring system to a free radical (i.e., half-wave potentials; 1, -0.815 V; 2, -0.920 V; 3, -0.135 V). It was found, by computer simulation of the ESR spectra, that the spin density in the electrochemically generated free radicals from 1, 2 and 3 was preferentially located in the benzenoid ring and at the N-10 nitrogen. For radicals obtained from 1 and 2, only a small residual spin density could be detected in the quinoid ring. Since 1 can be metabolized to a free radical in cells, these free radical forms of 1 and its analogs may represent reactive forms of the phenoxazone nucleus.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted with ewes to investigate the effects of an enriched bovine follicular fluid inhibin preparation (INH) on gonadotrophin secretion after the onset of oestrus. Administration of INH (10 mg) 1 h after the onset of oestrus did not significantly alter the preovulatory FSH and LH surges or the second FSH peak. To determine the effects of INH on the second FSH surge, ewes were treated with saline (N = 7) or INH (N = 10) at 4 h (10 mg) and 24 h (5 mg) after the peak of the preovulatory LH surge. The second FSH surge was delayed about 24 h (P less than 0.05) in ewes treated with INH; however, the delay did not alter the interval to the next oestrus. In a third experiment, 16 ewes were assigned to 4 groups in a 2 x 2 factorial with the main effects being ovariectomy at 4 h and INH treatment (10 mg) at 4, 20 and 36 h after the peak of the LH surge. Controls received sham ovariectomy and saline injection as appropriate. Ovariectomy resulted in a rapid increase in serum FSH but not LH and this was delayed (P less than 0.05) by INH treatment. These results indicate that inhibin has a selective inhibitory action on FSH secretion in ewes and suggests that the second FSH surge results from increased basal FSH secretion due to decreased endogenous inhibin levels.  相似文献

The reproductive tracts of 13 mature hinds were examined daily by transrectal ultrasonography and blood samples were taken daily from October to January to characterize follicular, luteal, and endocrine dynamics in wapiti during the estrous season. Follicle development occurred in waves characterized by regular, synchronous development of a group of follicles in temporal succession to a surge in serum FSH concentration. The mean interovulatory interval was 21.3 +/- 0.1 d, but was shorter in hinds exhibiting two follicular waves than in hinds exhibiting three and four waves (P < 0.05). The interwave interval was similar among waves in two-wave cycles and the first wave of three-wave cycles. All other interwave intervals in three- and four-wave cycles were shorter (P < 0.05). The maximum diameter of the dominant follicle of the first wave was similar among two-, three-, and four-wave cycles. For all other waves in three- and four-wave cycles, the maximum diameter was smaller (P < 0.05). Corpus luteum diameter and plasma progesterone concentrations were similar between two- and three-wave cycles, but the luteal phase was longer (P < 0.05) in four-wave cycles. The dominant follicle emerged at a diameter of 4 mm at 0.4 +/- 0.1 and 0.8 +/- 0.1 d before the largest and second largest subordinate follicles, respectively. The follicle destined to become dominant was larger (P < 0.05) than the largest subordinate follicle one day after emergence, which coincided with the first significant decrease in serum FSH concentration. We concluded that the estrous cycle in wapiti is characterized by two, three, or four waves of follicular development (each preceded by a surge in circulating FSH), that there is a positive relationship between the number of waves and the duration of the cycle, and an inverse relationship between the number of waves and the magnitude of follicular dominance (diameter and duration of the dominant follicle).  相似文献

Patterns of ovarian follicle development were monitored daily in Holstein-Friesian cows that had two (n = 4) or three (n = 4) waves of ovarian follicle development during a single estrous cycle. The plasma from daily blood samples was used in assays for inhibin A, FSH, progesterone, and estradiol-17beta. Mean cycle lengths for cows with two and three waves were 21.8 and 25.3 days, respectively (P < 0.02). Although the average number of follicles >3-mm diameter on each pair of ovaries was similar for two- and three-wave cows on Days 2, 3, and 4 (Day 0 = day of ovulation; 8.6 vs. 9.6 follicles), there were more follicles >6-mm diameter on the ovaries of cows with two waves on Days 3 and 4. This difference was associated with a shorter interval from wave emergence to peak concentrations of inhibin A during the first wave in two-wave cows (2.0 vs. 3.8 days; P = 0.03) and with higher peak concentrations (474 vs. 332 pg/ml; P = 0.03). Differences in peak FSH concentrations were not significant (1.7 vs. 1.3 ng/ml; P = 0.10) and were inversely related to inhibin A concentrations. The peak concentrations of inhibin A and FSH in the second nonovulatory wave in the three-wave cows were similar to the low concentrations measured in the first wave (292 vs. 332 pg/ml of inhibin A, 1.3 vs. 1.3 ng/ml of FSH; P > 0.20). Average peak concentrations of inhibin A and FSH were similar during the ovulatory wave for cows with either two or three waves in a cycle (432 vs. 464 pg/ml of inhibin A, 2.3 vs. 2.1 ng/ml of FSH; P > 0.3). The lower concentrations of FSH during the emergence of the first follicular wave in cows with three-wave cycles may have reduced the rate of development of some of the follicles and reduced the concentrations of inhibin A. This pattern of lower concentrations of FSH and inhibin A was repeated in the second nonovulatory wave but not in the ovulatory wave. Subtle differences in the concentrations of these two hormones may underlie the mechanism that influences the number of waves of ovarian follicle development that occur during the bovine estrous cycle.  相似文献

Relationship between milk composition and pup's growth in mice   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The effect of lactation numbers (first, second, and third) on milk composition and the relationship between milk composition and pup's growth were examined in four strains of mice (SHN, SLN, C3H/He, and GR/A). Although the percentage of milk fat and moisture increased and decreased, respectively, through the first to third lactations in C3H/He mice, no differences in milk composition among lactation numbers were observed in the other mouse strains. In pooled data derived from the four strains of mice, there was no significant correlation between milk composition and body weight or growth rate of pups on Day 12 or 20 of the first lactation. In contrast, the amount of milk fat and moisture was the positively and negatively, respectively, correlated with the pup's growth parameters during the second and third lactations. This was reflected by a lower fat content and a higher moisture content in the milk of GR/A mice, especially evident during the second and third lactations and reduced pup's growth, when compared with the other mouse strains. Milk lactose and ash content was not correlated with pup's growth parameters. The results of our study stress the importance of milk fat for the growth of mouse pups.  相似文献

Introduction of the asymmetric bidirectional (+/- biphasic) current waveform has made it possible to achieve ventricular defibrillation with less energy and current than are needed with a unidirectional (monophasic) waveform. The symmetrical bidirectional (sinusoidal) waveform was used for the first human-heart defibrillation. Subsequent studies employed the underdamped and overdamped sine waves, then the trapezoidal (monophasic) wave. Studies were then undertaken to investigate the benefit of adding a second identical and inverted wave; little success rewarded these efforts until it was discovered that the second inverted wave needed to be much less in amplitude to lower the threshold for defibrillation. However, there is no physiologic theory that explains the mechanism of action of the bidirectional wave, nor does any theory predict the optimum amplitude and time dimensions for the second inverted wave. The authors analyze the research that shows that the threshold defibrillation energy is lowest when the charge in the second, inverted phase is slightly more than a third of that in the first phase. An ion-flux, spatial-K+ summation hypothesis is presented that shows the effect on myocardial cells of adding the second inverted current pulse.  相似文献
