The Peruvian Booby (Sula variegata) is one of the most numerous guano bird species in the Humboldt Current. We used a combination of data logger deployment, at-sea observations and colony-based work to investigate the foraging and diving behaviour, as well as the at-sea distribution and food choice of Peruvian Boobies breeding at Isla Pajaros, northern central Chile. Birds foraged in the vicinity of Isla Pajaros. They performed short foraging trips, varying between a few minutes and several hours. Average foraging range was 17.1 ± 3.5 km and diving took place between 2 and 10 km off the coast. Birds dived to depth of up to 10 m with an average depth of 4.3 ± 1.5 m. By at-sea observations as well as by data logger deployment, we identified important foraging areas close to the coast, especially around protruding points. The birds’ diet was highly variable between years, with Inka scad (Trachurus murphyi) and anchovy (Engraulis ringens) being the overall dominant prey species. Despite limited sample sizes, this paper presents first results about the foraging behaviour of Peruvian Boobies at the largest breeding colony in northern Chile. This information is essential for a better understanding of the effects of environmental changes as well as for the implementation of conservation measures.  相似文献

Senegal sole (Solea senegalensis Kaup) is a high‐value marine flatfish exploited in both fisheries and aquaculture. Here we describe the isolation of seven tetranucleotide and three dinucleotide polymorphic microsatellite loci. Characteristics of a captive broodstock and a wild population are described. Three loci displayed a significant departure from Hardy–Weinberg expectations in both populations, suggesting a substantial frequency of null alleles. The remaining seven loci were found to be in equilibrium in the wild population, whereas only four of them were in the cultured population. Cross‐species amplification was successful for three loci in other five flatfishes.  相似文献

Stingless bees are the most abundant pollinators of Brazilian tropical flora. Trigona spinipes has some of the largest colonies of any stingless bee species found in several types of environment. This work describes the isolation and characterization of microsatellite loci for this species. A microsatellite‐enriched genomic library was constructed and ten primer pairs were designed for T. spinipes. The primers were tested in 20 unrelated individuals. The mean number of alleles was 8.10 and mean observed and expected heterozygosity were 0.655 and 0.680, respectively. Primers were also tested in cross‐species amplification and five loci were successfully amplified in Trigona chanchamayoensis, Trigona hyalinata, Tetragonisca angustula, Partamona mulata and Frieseomelitta varia. The microsatellite primers described herein will be useful for evaluating genetic variability and gaining a better understanding of the population structure of T. spinipes as well as other species of stingless bees.  相似文献

Primer sequences for 16 microsatellite loci were developed from Schizolobium parahyba, a tropical tree species. Twelve loci were found to be polymorphic after screening diversity in individuals from Belize. A total of 39 alleles were found at nine loci. The markers are invaluable tools for studying the population genetics and mating system of the species.  相似文献

We isolated 10 polymorphic microsatellite DNA loci from the Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe) and optimized these for future studies in population genetics and behavioural ecology. The loci were screened for polymorphism using 107 individuals from one population in Germany. The primers amplified loci with high numbers of alleles ranging from two to 20 alleles per locus.  相似文献

Ostryopsis (Betulaceae) is a samll genus endemic to China with only two species. Both of them play an important role in restoring the local ecosystems. The distribution of genetic diversity between and within populations in each species are important to further utilize the wild genetic resources and explore the interspecific divergence. In this study, we developed 10 microsatellite loci from O. davidiana by the combining biotin capture method for the first time. A total of 27 microsatellite sequences were recovered through screening the library and 10 of them are polymorphic. The number of alleles per locus in 18 sampled individuals ranged from 3 to 6, expected heterozygosity and observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.2958 to 0.4767 and from 0.1591 to 0.2997, respectively. In addition, all markers have been crossly checked in the other congeneric species. These microsatellite markers would together provide a useful tool for investigating the genetic diversity and structure of both species and speciation mechanism between them.  相似文献

We isolated seven novel polymorphic microsatellite DNA loci from the burrowing parrot (Cyanoliseus patagonus) and optimised them for future studies of population differentiation and genetic variation. The loci were screened for polymorphism using 38 samples from wild individuals from three neighbouring colonies in Argentina. The primers amplified highly variable loci characterised by 3–10 alleles per locus and their observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.15 to 0.78 and 0.15 to 0.81, respectively. When we analysed 52 samples across Argentina and Chile, we found strong genetic differentiation between the Chilean and the Argentinean subspecies as well as significant differentiation between two geographically separated subspecies within Argentina. Our results indicate the suitability of these microsatellites for investigating further questions regarding the population genetics in this species.  相似文献

Weigela coraeensis var. coraeensis is a deciduous shrub species distributed in Japan on the mainland, Honshu, whereas its variety W. coraeensis var. fragrans is endemic to the Izu Islands located south of Honshu. We isolated eight polymorphic microsatellite loci from the species and characterized these loci for 20 individuals from a population in Honshu. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 7 to 15 and the observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.60 to 0.90 and from 0.65 to 0.90, respectively. These eight polymorphic microsatellites will be useful for examining intraspecific genetic differentiation in W. coraeensis.  相似文献

The isolation of molecular markers in Asparagus acutifolius, a wild edible plant species, is important to characterize local ecotypes that could be cultivated and preserved. We isolated and characterized polymorphic microsatellite loci from A. acutifolius by constructing and screening an enriched DNA library. Primer pairs were designed for 12 loci. Seven primer pairs worked well during amplification reactions and were tested on a wild population from Pontecagnano (SA), Italy. These loci showed a high level of genetic variability, with the numbers of alleles identified ranging from two to five and observed heterozygosity ranging from 0.20 to 0.73.  相似文献

Primers for seven unlinked and highly polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed for Corydalis ambigua to investigate its mating system and population genetics. This species can be used to explore the impact of an alien bumblebee on plant reproduction. Genetic diversity and other population genetic parameters were estimated in two populations with and without the alien bumblebee. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 4 to 20, and observed heterozygosities ranged from 0.355 to 0.969. These markers can be applied to study mating systems and population genetics in C. ambigua.  相似文献

We isolated and characterized eleven polymorphic microsatellite loci for Aegiphila sellowiana an outcrossing pioneer tree species that is frequently used in reforestation programs of tropical riparian forests in Brazil. A total of 38 alleles were detected across a sample of 45 individuals of A. sellowiana, with an average number of 3.45 alleles per locus. The average polymorphic information content (PIC) was 0.430 and the observed (HO) and expected (HE) heterozygosity values varied from 0.156 to 1.000 and 0.145 to 0.730, respectively. Eight loci exhibited significant deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (P ≤ 0.001) and 32 pair combinations of loci showed significant linkage disequilibrium (P ≤ 0.001). All 11 primers were tested for cross amplification in 12 species belonging to the family Lamiaceae and 5 species belonging to the related family Verbenaceae. The sequence and diversity information obtained using these microsatellites and their cross-transferability to other species of Lamiaceae as well as Verbenaceae will increase our understanding of genetic structures and species relationships within Aegiphyla and other genera of these families.  相似文献

Eight microsatellite loci were isolated from repetitive DNA enriched libraries for Cycas changjiangensis, an endangered endemic species in Hainan Island, China. The number of allele ranged from three to seven. The observed (H O) and expected (H E) heterozygosities ranged from 0.0000 to 0.8750 and from 0.2359 to 0.7582, respectively. These microsatellite loci will enrich our scientific understanding for C. changjiangensis conservation.  相似文献

Here we describe the characterization of six polymorphic microsatellite loci for Lilium philadelphicum (Liliaceae). Polymorphism levels ranged from 7 to 30 alleles per locus with a mean number of 15 alleles per locus. Observed heterozygosity (HO) ranged from 0.17 to 0.82 and did not deviate from Hardy–Weinberg expectations in the three western Montana populations included in the analysis. These loci are proving useful in studying gene flow between populations of this species distributed across its range in North America.  相似文献

We have isolated and characterized 10 microsatellite loci in the beaver (Castor canadensis). Sixty individuals from southern and central Illinois were screened at each locus. All loci exhibited moderate levels of polymorphism, ranging from five to 13 alleles per locus with average heterozygosity ranging from 0.317 to 0.867. Locus Cca5 deviated significantly from HWE (P < 0.001). The locus pair Cca4/Cca5 was shown to be in linkage disequilibrium in southern Illinois, but not in the central Illinois population. The remaining eight loci will be useful in investigations of mating and kinship patterns in beaver populations in Illinois.  相似文献
