SYNOPSIS. The fine structure of various stages in the life cycle of Theileria parva is described. The appearance of the parasites suggests that there may be a double macroschizogony cycle. We investigated a change in tissue fluid osmolality and developmental sequences of mitochondria-rich (MR) cells during embryonic and larval stages of Mozambique tilapia, Oreochromis mossambicus, developing in freshwater. Tissue osmolality, representing body fluid osmolality, ranged from 300 to 370 mOsm/kg during embryonic and larval stages. This suggests that tilapia embryos and larvae are also able to regulate body fluid osmolality to some extent, although the levels are somewhat higher and fluctuate more greatly in embryos and larvae than in adults. Na+/K+-ATPase-immunoreactive MR cells were first detected in the yolk-sac membrane 3 days before hatching (day − 3), followed by their appearance in the body skin on day − 2. Subsequently, MR cells in both the yolk-sac membrane and body skin increased in number, and most densely observed on days − 1 and 0. Whereas yolk-sac and skin MR cells decreased after hatching, MR cells in turn started developing in the gills after hatching. Thus, the principal site for MR cell distribution shifted from the yolk-sac membrane and body skin during embryonic stages to the gills during larval stages, and tilapia could maintain continuously their ion balance through those MR cells during early life stages.  相似文献

Reproductive development of female European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hübner), was investigated and a classification system proposed. Females collected in a blacklight trap during 1982 and 1983 were dissected and their reproductive system examined. Female reproductive systems were divided into six stages based on ovum development within the ovarioles, ovum depletion, ovariole appearance, and fat body color and shape. The female reproductive systems were also staged on the basis of spermatophore appearance. The time necessary to classify a female is also reported. Based on the classification system, the relationship between female age and stage of ovarian development was quantified under three temperature regimes. Females were found to experience a 3- to 5-d preoviposition period before initiation of egg deposition under optimal temperature conditions. This delay between adult emergence and initiation of egg laying corresponded with more advanced ovarian developmental stages collected in blacklight traps and indicates that actively ovipositing females are primarily being collected in blacklight traps.  相似文献

Summary On the basis of electron microscopy of nucleoli in various physiological stages of similar and different cells, it is assumed that the nucleolonemata appear for the first time in the pre-mitotic stage and subsequently the nucleolus-associated body makes its appearance.The nucleolonema is composed of helically coiled filaments 50 Å in diameter.The nucleolus-associated body comprises tightly packed filaments about 15–30 Å thick which are helically coiled.  相似文献

Summary During advanced stages of sieve-element differentiation inUlmus americana L., dispersal of the P-protein (slime) bodies results in formation of a peripheral network of strands consisting of aggregates of P-protein components having a striated, fibrillar appearance. The tonoplast is present throughout the period of P-protein body dispersal. Perforation of the sieve plates is initiated during early stages of P-protein body dispersal.Small P-protein bodies consist of tubular components, most of which measure about 180 Å in diameter. With increase in size of the P-protein bodies narrower components appear. At the time of initiation of P-protein body dispersal, most of the components comprising the bodies are of relatively narrow diameters (most 130–140 Å) and have a striated, fibrillar appearance. Both wide and narrow P-protein components are present throughout the period of sieve-element differentiation and in the mature cell as well, and a complete intergradation in size and appearance exists between the two extremes. Both extremes of P-protein component have a similar substructure: an electron-transparent lumen and an electronopaque wall composed of subunits, apparently in helical arrangement. The distribution of P protein in mature sieve elements was quite variable.The parietal layer of cytoplasm in matureUlmus sieve elements consists of plasmalemma, endoplasmic reticulum cisternae in two forms (as a complex network closely applied to the plasmalemma and in stacks along the wall), mitochondria, and plastids.  相似文献

Mesocletodes Sars, 1909a encompasses 37 species to date. Initial evidence on intraspecific variability and sexual dimorphism has been verified for 77 specimens of Mesocletodes elmari sp. n. from various deep-sea regions, and ontogenetic development has been traced for the first time. Apomorphies are a strong spinule-like pinna on the mx seta that is fused to the basis, P2-P4 exp3 proximal outer seta lost, P1-P4 enp2 extremely elongated, furcal rami elongated, female body of prickly appearance, female P2-P4 enp2 proximal inner seta lost. Intraspecific variability involves spinulation, ornamentation and size of the body and setation and spinulation of pereiopods. Sexually dimorphic modifications of adult females include prickly appearance of the body, P1 enp exceeds exp in length, P1 coxa externally broadened, seta of basis arising from prominent protrusion, hyaline frills of body somites ornate. Sexual dimorphism in adult males is expressed in smaller body size, haplocer A1, 2 inner setae on P2-P4 enp2 and on P5 exp, P5 basendopodal lobe with 2 setae. Some modifications allow sexing of copepodid stages. The female A1 is fully developed in CV, the male A1 undergoes extensive modifications at the last molt. P1-P4 are fully developed in CV. Mesocletodes faroerensis and Mesocletodes thielei lack apomorphies of Mesocletodes and are excluded.  相似文献

Specific developmental changes in smooth muscle were studied in gizzards obtained from 6-, 8-, 10-, 12-, 14-, 16-, 18-, and 20-day chick embryos and from 1- and 7-day posthatch chicks. Myoblasts were actively replicating in tissue from 6-day embryos. Cytoplasmic dense bodies (CDBs) first appeared at Embryonic Day 8 (E8) and were recognized as patches of increased electron density that consisted of actin filaments (AFs), intermediate filaments (IFs), and cross-connecting filaments (CCFs). Although the assembly of CDBs was not synchronized within a cell, the number, size, and electron density of CDBs increased as age increased. Membrane-associated dense bodies (MADBs) also could be recognized at E8. The number and size of MADBs increased as age increased, especially after E16. Filaments with the diameter of thick filaments first appeared at E12. Smooth muscle cells were able to divide as late as E20. The axial intermediate filament bundle (IFB) could first be identified in 1-day posthatch cells and became larger and more prominent in 7-day posthatch cells. Immunogold labeling of 1- and 7-day posthatch cells with anti-desmin showed that the IFB contained desmin IFs. The developmental events during this 23-day period were classified into seven stages, based primarily on the appearance and the growth of contractile and cytoskeletal elements. These stages are myoblast proliferation, dense body appearance, thick filament appearance, dense body growth, muscle cell replication, IFB appearance, and appearance of adult type cells. Smooth muscle cells in each stage express similar developmental characteristics. The mechanism of assembly of myofilaments and cytoskeletal elements in smooth muscle in vivo indicates that myofilaments (AFs and thick filaments) and filament attachment sites (CDBs and MADBs) are assembled before the axial IFB, a major cytoskeletal element.  相似文献

采用蛋白质双向电泳技术分析了家蚕Bombyx mori催青后期胚胎蛋白质图谱的变化。研究发现: 在头胸分化期(戊3)、反转期(己1)、毛瘤发生期(己2)、点青期(己3)、转青期(己4)和孵化期(己5)胚胎蛋白质的双向电泳图谱中共检测到209个特异蛋白斑点,其中己3和己4两个胚胎出现的特异蛋白斑点数在整个催青期胚胎中为最多,分别达55和77个。与催青前期胚胎出现的特异蛋白斑点变化规律相似,这些特异蛋白斑点大多也是在随后邻近的胚胎发育中消失。推测这些特异蛋白可能与相应胚胎的形体特征发育有关。  相似文献

The shift of chloride cell distribution was investigated during early life stages of seawater-adapted killifish (Fundulus heteroclitus). Chloride cells were detected by immunocytochemistry with an an-tiserum specific for Na(+), K(+)-ATPase in whole-mount preparations and paraffin sections. Chloride cells first appeared in the yolk-sac membrane in the early embryonic stage, followed by their appearance in the body skin in the late embryonic stage. Immunoreactive chloride cells in the yolk-sac membrane and body skin often formed multicellular complexes, as evidenced by the presence of more than one nucleus. The principal site for chloride cell distribution shifted from the yolk-sac membrane and body skin during embryonic stages to the gill and opercular membrane in larval and later developmental stages. Our observations suggest that killifish embryos and newly-hatched larvae could maintain their ion balance through chloride cells present in the yolk-sac membrane and body skin until branchial and opercular chloride cells become functional.  相似文献

The appearance and distribution of type I, II, and III collagens in the developing chick eye were studied by specific antibodies and indirect immunofluorescence. At stage 19, only type I collagen was detected in the primary corneal stroma, in the vitreous body, and along the lens surface. At later stages, type I collagen was located in the primary and secondary corneal stroma and in the fibrous sclera, but not around the lens. Type II collagen was first observed at stage 20 in the primary corneal stroma, neural retina, and vitreous body. It was particularly prominent at the interface of the neural retina and vitreous body and, from stage 30 on, in the cartilaginous sclera. The primary corneal stroma consisted of a mixture of type I and II collagens between stages 20 and 27. Invasion of the primary corneal stroma by mesenchyme and subsequent deposition of fibroblast-derived collagen corresponded with a pronounced increase of type I collagen, throughout the entire stroma, and of type II collagen, in the subepithelial region. Type II collagen was also found in Bowman's and Descemet's membranes. A transient appearance of type III collagen was observed in the corneal epithelial cells, but not in the stroma (stages 20–30). The fully developed cornea contained both type I and II collagens, but no type III collagen. Type III collagen was prominent in the fibrous sclera, iris, nictitating membrane, and eyelids.  相似文献

Structure and ontogeny of the hair mechanosensilla on the distal segment of the pupal labial palp of Pieris rapae (Lepidoptera : Pieridae) were investigated in 7 successive stages between 28 hr after pupation and emergence of the imago. There are 7–8 mechanosensilla in the distal region of each palp in both sexes. These sensilla house a single sensory cell characterized by a tubular body, and 3 enveloping cells.At 28 hr after pupation, the anlagen of the hair mechanosensila are visible. Consecutive steps in the formation of the sensilla are: (1) elongation of the outer dendritic segment and of the dendritic sheath; (2) outgrowth of the trichogen cell and cuticle deposition; (3) increase in the diameter of the dendritic outer segment and in the number of microtubules within it; (4) reduction of the distal part of the dendritic outer segment and formation of the tubular body; (5) folding of the membrane of the dendritic outer segment and appearance of the receptor lymph cavity.The tubular body is formed during a period of about 80 hr. Its earliest appearance comprises groups of 3–4 microtubules, which are connected by electron-dense material. The final dense tubular body develops via microtubules linked together by electron-dense material.  相似文献

The post-naupliar developmental stages of the Calanoid copepodDrepanopus forcipatus Giesbrecht are described. They are compared with copepodids of other members of the family Clausocalanidae. The sequence of appearance and development of segmentation and setation indicate considerable conformity and point to a uniform familial pattern. Attention is drawn to a general pattern of addition of body segments and of segments in the first antenna and swimming legs. Comparison of integumental pore patterns of several genera, confirms the provisional pore signature of the family. Remarks are made on the identity and distribution of species ofDrepanopus.  相似文献

The ovary of Polystoechotes punctatus consists of several ovarioles of meroistic-polytrophic type. Histological, histochemical and ultrastructural studies revealed that the extrachromosomal amplification of rDNA takes place in the oocyte nucleus. Prior to previtellogenic growth the oocyte nucleus contains the chromosomes of meiotic prophase and a condensed extra DNA body. Initial split of extrachromosomal DNA material into several fragments coincides with the appearance of a spherical, fine granular body (referred to as primary nucleolus). Its gradual fragmentation accompanied by further dispersion of amplified DNA results in the formation of a growing number of multiple nucleoli. Until mid previtellogenesis each multiple nucleolus contains detectable amount of rDNA. In the advanced stages of previtellogenesis rDNA can hardly be visualized within the multiple nucleoli, while chromosomes form a few dense aggregates randomly disposed in the karyoplasm. At the onset of vitellogenesis the chromosomes assemble to form a karyosome. In its close vicinity DNA-positive material reaggregates. Multiple nucleoli are either found on the periphery of this aggregation or merge within it. At the final stages of vitellogenesis the number of multiple nucleoli significantly decreases.  相似文献

为了探讨家蚕Bombyx mori胚胎蛋白质整体变化,以多化性品种P50为材料,采用蛋白质双向电泳技术及图像分析技术分析了催青前期胚胎(戊3以前)各个时期蛋白质图谱及其变化情况。研究发现:从临界Ⅱ期(丙)胚胎到缩短期(戊2)胚胎蛋白质双向电泳图谱基本稳定,存在于临界Ⅱ期胚胎的蛋白斑点在催青前期的4个胚胎中消失的个数较少,仅占22.80%,而在催青的最后2个胚胎中消失的蛋白质斑点却占48.18%;在神经沟出现(丁1)、腹肢突起(丁2)、上唇突起(戊1)和缩短期(戊2)胚胎的双向电泳图谱中能够检测到100个特异蛋白质斑点,这些特异蛋白质斑点大多在随后邻近的胚胎发育中消失,暗示了这些特异蛋白可能与相应胚胎的形体特征发育有关。  相似文献

Background: Social relationships are important at all stages of life. A positive body image increases confidence in social interactions, which contributes substantially to health, well‐being and quality of life. Body image can be negatively impacted by oral conditions, particularly those that are appearance related and do not meet cultural ideals. Results: Typically, the oral health of frail elders in long‐term care facilities is poor, but to what extent poor oral health and dysfunction influence body image, and social behaviours is unclear. Conclusions: We conclude that there is the potential for poor oral health conditions to contribute negatively to the social well‐being in this population, but suggest that it requires further investigation.  相似文献

The development of mariculture techniques for the raising of Aplysia californica in the laboratory from fertilized egg to reproductively mature adult permits the study of the developmental program whereby individual identified neurons in the abdominal ganglion acquire their specific adult properties. In this paper, we describe one of the early steps of this developmental program: the outgrowth of axonal processes by neurons of the abdominal ganglion. Axonal outgrowth is correlated with and may be triggered by the transient appearance of morphologically identifiable axosomatic contacts between the as yet undifferentiated cell body of specific neurons and an axon terminal from an incoming nerve fiber from the pleuroabdominal connective. The evidence that transient axosomatic contacts may signal neuronal differentiation is the following: (1) Axosomatic contacts have not been observed in the abdominal ganglion of adult animals, whereas they are commonly observed during the early stages of development. (2) Cells that receive axosomatic contacts are undifferentiated morphologically and do not as yet have axons. By contrast, cells with axons do not have soma contacts. (3) Individual cells that can be identified from animal to animal in the same and succeeding developmental stages receive axosomatic contacts on similar topographic postions of the cell body at one point in development. Axon outgrowth then occurs at the site of contact. Later in development, with further axon extension, these cells no longer have synaptic contacts on the cell body or axon.  相似文献

The see-through stock in the medaka Oryzias latipes, causes pigments to be absent from the whole body and has a transparent body in the adult stage as well as during embryonic stages. To establish a standard table of growth stages for this model fish, morphological features were examined during the growing period from hatching to adulthood. The main observations were performed on morphological changes in external and internal organs that could be seen through the body wall of the living fish during growth. Finally, five growth stages from just after hatching to the adult stage were defined on the basis of synchronized or definite changes in morphology as follows: (1) stage 40 in which the nodes (joints) in bony rays of the caudal and pectoral fins first appear, (2) the stage 41 in which the ribs and the anal, dorsal and ventral fins are formed by degeneration of the membrane fin folds, as recognized by the first appearance of nodes in the fin rays of the anal, pectoral and dorsal fins, and the parallel distribution of the dorsal artery and ventral vein of the tail, (3) stage 42 in which the 2-spiral pattern of the gut, the ray nodes in the ventral fins, and the scales first appear, (4) stage 43 in which early secondary sexual characters such as urinogenital protruberances (female) and papillar processes (male) appear, (5) stage 44 in which the 3-spiral pattern of the gut and the papillar process on the 2nd ray of pectral fins (male) appear.  相似文献

The gill ctenidium growth tip of the lamellibranch mollusc Aequipecten irradians recapitulates the temporal development of ciliated gill filaments and related structures in a spatial fashion. This “meristematic” relationship has allowed a study of basal body formation and ciliogenesis in adjacent cells of gill filament papillae at stages of progressively more advanced relative development. Basal bodies appear to originate quite rapidly, subsequent to the appearance of a complex of dense granules, quite reminiscent of the “condensation forms” or “procentriole precursors” typically seen in vertebrate ciliogenesis. Unlike basal body generation in higher forms, that in Aequipecten shows no obvious organized intermediate stages. During ciliation, randomly-oriented, nearly complete procentrioles are found concomitantly with actively-functioning basal bodies. Cilia formation in more advanced, already-ciliated cells is again preceded by the presence of granular complexes. Ciliogenesis in this mollusc thus shares with certain lower forms the property of very rapid basal body formation but, like many higher forms, it is preceded by the formation of a granular precursor complex, presumably consisting of particulate microtubule protein.  相似文献
