Large fluctuations in glycogen content were found in larvae, pupae and adults of Chironomus anthracinus (Zetterstedt) from the profundal zone of Lake Esrom, Denmark. In 2nd, 3rd and 4th instar larvae the glycogen concentration (expressed as percentage of dry weight) increased during periods of aerobic conditions to a maximum of 25%, but decreased in periods of hypoxia longer than two months to 10–12% in young larvae. A further decrease to about 5% took place, when moulting from 2nd to 3rd or from 3rd to 4th instar occurred after overturn. Prior to pupation the glycogen concentration was restored to 26–28%. The glycogen concentration approximated 22% in young pupae, but decreased during the pupal stage and newly hatched adults contained 12–15%. Finally, the glycogen store of both males and females was further reduced during the swarming period. Thus, glycogen seems to be an important energy source (1) during periods with hypoxic conditions, (2) during periods with high internal energy requirement such as ecdyses and metamorphosis, and (3) during the non-feeding adult life stage.  相似文献

The profundal zone of Lake Esrom, Denmark has a dense population of Chironomus anthracinus, which survives 2–4 months of oxygen depletion each summer during stratification. The metabolism of 3rd and 4th instar larvae was examined in regard to variation in biomass and temperature. Respiration at air saturation was described by a curvilinear multiple regression relating oxygen consumption to individual AFDW and temperature. At 10 °C and varying oxygen regimes the O2 consumption and CO2 production of 4th instar larvae were almost unaltered from saturation to about 3 mg O2 l–1, but decreased steeply below this level. The respiratory quotient increased from 0.82 at saturation to about 3.4 at oxygen concentrations near 0.5 mg O2 l–1. This implied a shift from aerobic to partially anaerobic metabolism. At 0.5 mg O2 l–1 the total energy production equalled 20% of the rate at saturation of which more than one third was accounted for by anaerobic degradation of glycogen. This corresponded to a daily loss of 12 µg mg AFDW–1 or approximately 5% of the body reserves. At unchanged metabolic rate the glycogen store would last three weeks, but long term oxygen deficiency causes a further suppression of the energy metabolism in C. anthracinus.  相似文献

The braconid Cotesia plutellae(Kurdjumov) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is amajor solitary, larval endoparasitoid of thediamondback moth, Plutella xylostella(L.) (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae). Parasitism oflarvae of different host instars and fourdevelopmental ages of the 4th instar ofthe pest was examined. The effects of hostinstar at initial parasitization on thedevelopment, survival, size and fecundity ofthe parasitoid were determined in thelaboratory at 25 °C. The effects ofparasitism on host development and foodconsumption were investigated at 28 °C.Cotesia plutellae could parasitize larvaeof all four instars of P. xylostella, butpreferred 2nd and 3rd instars. In achoice test, the relative parasitism indicesfor 2nd, 3rd and 4th instarswere 0.37, 0.39 and 0.24, respectively.Parasitism decreased sharply with increasinghost age in the 4th instar and approachedzero in host larvae that had gone beyond 37%of 4th stadium. The development time andthe final adult size of the parasitoid variedwith the host instar at initial parasitization.Parasitoids with initial parasitism in the4th instar hosts had the shortestdevelopment time, followed by those in the3rd instar, and then by those in the2nd instar. Parasitoids startingparasitism in 2nd instar hosts weresmaller in body size than those starting in the3rd or 4th instar. However, resultantfemales starting parasitism in 3rd instarhosts had the highest fecundity. Parasitizedlarvae exhibited longer development time andincreased food consumption compared withunparasitized ones. This study presents thefirst record that a solitary parasitoidregulates host behavior leading to an increasein food consumption by the host.  相似文献

Summary Larvae pass through five instars in the temperate, subterranean ponerine ant, Amblyopone silvestrii. Field colonies displayed a large decrease in the number of eggs during mid-summer, despite the fact that queens maintained fully developed ovaries with mature eggs. Observations of laboratory colonies indicate that cannibalism by 1st and 2nd instar larvae caused this decrease in egg number. These instars consumed a total of 66–75% of eggs in the nest, with each larva consuming 2–3 eggs before molting to the 3rd instar. At that time the larvae began to feed on arthropods. The preferred prey of A. silvestrii consists of entire centipedes; the large size of these prey items relative to the size of early instar larvae makes it difficult for the larvae to feed on these prey. Additionally, workers of A. silvestrii do not engage in oral trophallaxis. Consequently, oophagy is a plausible method to feed these very small larvae.  相似文献

Population dynamics of Chaoborus flavicans larvae of various instars was studied from November 1986 to December 1987 in a eutrophic, fish-free pond, Japan. First and 2nd instar larvae were observed from late April to late October, indicating a reproductive period of about half a year. C. flavicans overwintered in the 4th instar larvae. In water column samples, total density of all instars was 680–23680 m-2, and pupal density 0–2600 m-2; larvae of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd instars showed 5–6 density peaks in 1987, suggesting that 5–6 generations occur during a year (peaks of the 4th instar larvae were not clear, probably due to their longer development than those of younger instars). In sediment samples, no 1st and 2nd instar larvae were found, 3rd instar larvae were found occasionally but density of the 4th instar larvae was 280–18600 m-2, and pupal density varied between 0–502 m-2. Fouth instar larvae accumulated in sediment in the cold season and in the water column in the warm season; high temperature and low oxygen concentration were the most important factors limiting the distribution of larvae in the sediment in summer in the NIES pond. The dry weight of total C. flavicans larvae was 0.08–4.2 g m-2 in sediment samples and 24–599 μg l-1 (0.10–2.40 g m-2) in water column samples. Comparisons of maximum densities in the NIES pond in different years and in waters of different trophic status show that density is generally higher in eutrophic than in oligotrophic habitats. The three macroinvertebrate taxa, Potamothrix hammoniensis, Chironomus anthracinus and Pisidium spp. are permanent inhabitants of the regularly microxic/anoxic profundal zone in Lake Esrom. In situ and laboratory studies (10 °C) of metabolism (aerobic and anaerobic) and anaerobic survival in P. hammoniensis and Pisidium spp. are compared with previous results from C. anthracinus. The late summer microxic conditions in the lake lasts 2–2 months, during which the three taxa display metabolic and behavioral strategies in order to survive. All three are respiratory oxy-regulators with critical oxygen levels at 1 mg O2 l–1 (P. hammoniensis and Pisidium spp.) or 2–3 mg O2 l–1 (C. anthracinus). The lethal time (LD50) in experimental anoxia follows a similar trend, with 150–170 days of survival in P. hammoniensis and Pisidium spp., compared to 2–5 weeks in C. anthracinus. The glycogen stores are almost (C. anthracinus) or fully exploited (P. hammoniensis and Pisidium spp.) during anaerobis and the animals finally enter a state of quiescence or dormancy. During the late phase of anoxia, their metabolism is down at (C. anthracinus) or below (P. hammoniensis and Pisidium spp.) 1% of normoxic metabolism. The populations in the lake behave rather similar in so far that the energy gain from anaerobic degradation of glycogen maximizes 1% of normoxic conditions regardless of species. Also, in Pisidium this appears to be the only energy source during dormancy. However, as previously presented in case of C. anthracinus, P. hammoniensis maintain a partly aerobic metabolism constituting 44% of normoxia during the microxic period, compared to the 12–19% obtained by C. anthracinus. It is thus demonstrated that P. hammoniensis and Pisidium spp. possess a remarkable ability to survive in situ severe oxygen depletion. P. hammoniensis can benefit from the presence of merely traces of oxygen, whereas C. anthracinus with poorer anaerobic survival is strongly dependent on minute oxygen supplies.  相似文献

研究中红侧沟茧蜂Microplitis mediator Haliday对棉铃虫Helicoverpa armigera Hübner幼虫及其为害棉株的趋性行为, 可为高效应用中红侧沟茧蜂控制棉铃虫提供理论依据。本研究在实验室内以中红侧沟茧蜂雌蜂、1~5龄棉铃虫幼虫及其为害棉花植株(去虫或未去虫)为试验材料, 采用“Y”型昆虫嗅觉仪测定了中红侧沟茧蜂雌蜂对1~5龄棉铃虫幼虫及其为害棉株的趋性行为反应。结果表明: 中红侧沟茧蜂对3龄、4龄和5龄棉铃虫幼虫均没有明显的趋向行为反应, 1龄和2龄棉铃虫幼虫对中红侧沟茧蜂有显著的引诱作用。此外, 1~5龄棉铃虫幼虫为害后去虫棉株与健康棉株均对中红侧沟茧蜂有吸引作用。在未去虫的处理中, 虫害诱导棉株比健康植株更能吸引中红侧沟茧蜂, 与健康植株差异显著, 而且不同龄期棉铃虫幼虫为害处理间差异较大, 对中红侧沟茧蜂引诱作用的相对顺序为: 5龄为害植株>2龄和4龄为害植株>1龄和3龄为害植株 (2龄和4龄为害处理间差异不显著; 1龄和3龄为害处理间差异不显著)。本研究结果可为中红侧沟茧蜂在生物防治上的应用提供一定的理论指导和实践依据。  相似文献

Summary The searching and handling behaviors ofHarmonia axyridis larvae to the colony ofRhopalosiphum padi were experimentally examined and the processes of their aggregation to the prey colony was analyzed. All the instar larvae searched for the prey at random and they have no preference to the prey colony, but except the 1st instar they tend to aggregate to the plants with prey colonies. The 1st instar larvae tend to stay on the plants they once located. The 2nd to 4th instar larvae often emigrate from the plants without prey colony but seldom emigrate from the plants with prey colonies, and consequently, they aggregate to the plants with prey colonies. The expense of time to eat prey (in the 2nd and 3rd instars) and the change of searching behavior for the prey after feeding (in the 3rd and 4th instars) are responsible for the larval concentration to prey colony as a trapping effect for predators to prey colony.  相似文献

双斑恩蚜小蜂和桨角蚜小蜂是华南地区烟粉虱的两种优势种寄生蜂。本文研究了两种寄生蜂对不同龄期烟粉虱寄主的产卵选择特性。结果表明:两种寄生蜂均可寄生烟粉虱的1~4龄若虫。当只有1个龄期的烟粉虱若虫存在时,双斑恩蚜小蜂更多地寄生3龄和4龄若虫,较少寄生1龄和2龄若虫;而桨角蚜小蜂则更多地寄生3龄和2龄若虫,较少寄生1龄和4龄若虫。在4个龄期若虫同时存在时,双斑恩蚜小蜂会明显增加对3龄和4龄若虫的产卵寄生,降低对1龄和2龄若虫的寄生;而桨角蚜小蜂则增加对2龄和3龄若虫的寄生,减少对1龄和4龄若虫的寄生。寄主植物的差异不影响这二种蚜小蜂对各龄期烟粉虱若虫的产卵选择倾向。结果提示,烟粉虱若虫3龄和4龄是双斑恩蚜小蜂最适宜的寄主,而桨角蚜小蜂最适宜的寄主是烟粉虱2龄和3龄若虫。  相似文献

We conducted a seasonal survey of the swimming behaviour of Chironomus acerbiphilus larvae in volcanic Lake Katanuma from April 1998 to December 2001. Swimming C. acerbiphilus density was much higher than other chironomid species in lakes. All C. acerbiphilus larvae (1st through 4th instars) swam, but the earlier instars (especially the 1st) had the greatest densities and fluctuations. First instars were never found in the benthic population. This result indicates that the 1st-instar larvae are planktonic. Low water temperature (below about 10 °C) resulted in the seasonal disappearance of swimming chironomid larvae. Chemical factors – oxygen depletion or presence of hydrogen sulfide – also restricted the distribution of swimming and benthic larvae. Larvae were distributed only in the oxygen-rich part of the lake bottom and swam only in the oxygen-rich layer of the water column. The density of older swimming C. acerbiphilus (3rd and 4th instars) tended to increase with increasing benthic larval densities. The chemical stress of oxygen depletion or presence of hydrogen sulfide during holomixis within and after the stratification period leads to conspicuous swimming behaviour of benthic C. acerbiphilus larvae. Almost all C. acerbiphilus larvae died on this occasion.  相似文献

【目的】 昆虫自相残杀行为可以促进特定病原体的传播,这在利用昆虫病原体防治害虫方面有潜在的应用价值。本研究旨在探究棉铃虫 Helicoverpa armigera 幼虫自相残杀习性与其龄期及食物营养之间的相关性。【方法】 分别饲喂室内品系和野外品系的棉铃虫幼虫含不同Na+浓度的人工饲料,并在饲养至3龄、4龄、5龄和6龄时,将取食相同饲料的10头幼虫为一群组移入同一培养皿中,通过测定各处理幼虫存活率,评估幼虫龄期和饲料中的Na+含量对自相残杀行为的影响。【结果】 当以3龄和4龄为群组的起始龄期时,棉铃虫幼虫存活率显著低于起始龄期为5龄和6龄的群组。此外,取食正常人工饲料的幼虫存活率最高,取食缺钠饲料时,幼虫存活率明显下降。最后,幼虫群组起始龄期和食物Na+含量对幼虫化蛹率无明显影响。【结论】结果说明,棉铃虫4和5龄幼虫与3和6龄幼虫相比,自相残杀行为发生的概率更大,而Na+含量较低的食物在一定程度上促进自相残杀行为发生的可能性。本研究为在这一领域的进一步工作提供了基础。  相似文献

Eretmocerus mundus Mercet is a parasitoidof Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) indigenous tothe Mediterranean and is used commercially foraugmentative biological control in Spain andelsewhere. A better understanding of thesuitability of different host instars wouldhelp optimize production and field application.Incidence of parasitism, development time,survivorship and sex ratio were evaluated whendifferent nymphal instars of the sweetpotatowhitefly Bemisia tabaci biotype `Q' wereoffered for parasitization. Experiments wereconducted on sweet pepper at 25 °C, 75%RH and 16:8 (L:D) photoperiod. E. mundusoviposited in all nymphal instars of B.tabaci except the mature 4th instar orpharate adult (previously designated, `pupa').Incidence of parasitism was greatest (33.8± 5.1 parasitized nymphs) and developmenttime shortest (14.1 ± 0.1 d) whenoviposition occurred under 2nd and3rd instar nymphs compared to 1st or4th instars. Survivorship (85%) andoffspring sex ratio (39.8% female) did notdiffer statistically for parasitoids developingin whiteflies that were parasitized asdifferent instars. Although 2nd and3rd instars were clearly the mostfavorable host stage for E. mundus, itscapacity to parasitize and develop on a widerange of host stages is a favorablecharacteristic for both rearing and fieldapplication.  相似文献

Microplitis mediator (Haliday) is a solitary endoparasitoid of larvae of the cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) and the oriental armyworm, Mythimna = Leucania separata (Walker). The preference and suitability of different instars of M. separata for M. mediator were determined under laboratory conditions at a constant temperature of 26 ± 1 °C, 65 ± 5% RH and L14:D10 photoperiod. The selection coefficient revealed that M. mediator parasitized 1st to 4th instars, but preferred 2nd and 3rd instars. Seventy-one percent of parasitism was achieved within 24 h when the 2nd instars were used as hosts at a density of one parasitoid per 20 Larvae. Parasitoid egression and pupation were dependent on the host instar parasitized and occurred from the 1st through the 4th instar. The mean developmental time from egg to prepupae of M. mediator within 1st to 4th instars of the host was 8.27, 8.30, 8.30 and 9.20 days, respectively. Cocoon weights were lower when 1st and 2nd instars served as hosts rather than 3rd and 4th instars. The percentage of host larva that died before parasitoid egression declined as the age of the host increased, ranging from 26% to 2% for 1st–5th instars, respectively. The results of this study suggest that 2nd and 3rd instars of M. separata would be the best host stages for mass production of M. mediator in the laboratory and the best host instars to target for effective control in field releases.  相似文献

The present study aimed to investigate, the larvicidal, adult emergence inhibition and oviposition deterrent activity of aqueous leaves extract of Calotropis procera against Anopheles arabiensis and Culex quinquefasciatus as natural mosquito larvicide. The larvicidal activity was monitored against 2nd, 3rd and 4th instar larvae of each mosquito species 24 h post-treatment. Adult emergence inhibition activity was tested by exposing 3rd instar larvae of each mosquito species to different concentrations of extracts (200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000 ppm for An. arabiensis and 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 ppm for Cx. quinquefasciatus). Probit analysis was used to analyze data from bioassay experiments. The oviposition deterrent activity was tested by using three different concentrations of extracts (1000, 500 and 200 for An. arabiensis, and 1000, 500 and 100 for Cx. quinquefasciatus) that caused high, moderate and low larval mortality in the larvicidal experiment against 3rd instar larvae. It was found that, LC50–LC90 values calculated were 273.53–783.43, 366.44–1018.59 and 454.99–1224.62 ppm for 2nd, 3rd and 4th larval instars, respectively, of An. arabiensis and 187.93–433.51, 218.27–538.27 and 264.85–769.13 ppm for 2nd, 3rd and 4th larval instars, respectively, of Cx. quinquefasciatus. Fifty percent of adult emergence inhibition (EI50) was shown at 277.90 and 183.65 ppm for An. arabiensis and Cx. quinquefasciatus, respectively. The pupal stage was not affected till a concentration of 5000 ppm. The extract showed oviposition deterrence and effective repellence against both mosquito species at different concentrations, with the observation on that maximal eggs were laid in low concentration of extract. These results suggest that the leaves extract of C. procera possess remarkable larvicidal, adult emergence inhibitor, repellent and oviposition deterrent effect against both An. arabiensis and Cx. quinquefasciatus, and might be used as natural biocides for mosquito control.  相似文献

分别测定了棉铃虫Helicoverpa armigeraHübner不同虫态及虫龄血清和血细胞中酚氧化酶(phenoloxidase,PO)的活力。结果显示血清和血细胞中都有酚氧化酶活性,且血细胞中高于血清中。不同虫态及虫龄的血清和血细胞中酚氧化酶活力有很大的不同,血清和血细胞中酚氧化酶活力变化规律一致。3龄幼虫酶活力最高,5龄幼虫最低。酶活力大小依次为:3龄幼虫>预蛹>4龄幼虫>蛹>5龄幼虫  相似文献

Macrorhaphis acuta were bred in the laboratory (25°C) and fed on larvae ofAscotis selenaria reciprocaria. The incubation period was 8.4 days and the mean hatch was 94.4%. There were 5 nymphal instars which occupied 3.3, 5.0, 5.6, 6.6 and 12.0 days, respectively, from the lst to the 5th. Each nymph consumed an average of 22.8 host larvae to complete development. Adults had a mean longevity of 74.9 days and each consumed an average of 67.5 host larvae. Significant reduction was noted in pupation of 5th instar host larvae sucked by adult predators for periods ranging from 4 to 10 mn. The food requirements of 3rd, 4th, and 5th instar nymphs fed on 3rd instar host larvae were also investigated. The conversion ratio varied with the weight of food consumed during the instar and later instars were more efficient than earlier ones. Predatory value did not vary significantly with successive instars.  相似文献

The acceptability of three widely distributed Australian Menispermaceae,Tinospora smilacina Benth.,Sarcopetalum harveyanum F. Muell. andStephania japonica (Thunb.) Miers, as food for larvae of the fruitpiercing moth,Othreis fullonia (Clerck), was examined in three laboratory experiments. When larvae were presented with plant species individually total development times were shortest onT. smilacina and longest onS. japonica, despite relatively similar consumption rates within most instars.T. smilacina elicited greater (P<0.05) relative growth rates thanS. japonica in all instars except the 6th. In the second experiment, when larvae were allowed to select from each of the 3 plants, noS. japonica was chosen by 1 st instars and it represented only 3.7% of food consumed by 2nd instars. Significantly moreT. smilacina was eaten in each instar thanS. japonica, and more thanS. harveyanum except in the 2nd and 4th instars. The final experiment examined the abilities of larvae to switch hosts when forced after the 1st and 3rd instars. After the first or second food change largest average headcapsule widths were associated with feeding onT. smilacina as the most recent food. Feeding by final instars onT. smilacina also resulted in the shortest development time and highest puparial weights. While some larvae survived irrespective of plant sequence 83.3% of the recorded mortality occurred while larvae were exposed toS. japonica, principally during the 1st instar. These experiments lend support to field observations which suggest thatT. smilacina is a major host ofO. fullonia whileS. japonica is notS. harveyanum is probably an important alternate host whenT. smilacina is scarce.  相似文献

Dopamine and two related catecholamines, L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) and N-acetyl dopamine (NADA), were analyzed in whole body and tissue samples taken throughout late larval development of the drosophilid fly Chymomyza costata, which enters facultative diapause as a mature 3rd instar larva in response to short photophase. Wild-type (W) and mutant-nondiapause (M) strains reared under diapause inducing (d) and preventing (nd) photophases were compared. Developmental changes in the whole body of dopamine levels showed some general features irrespective of fly strain and rearing conditions: sharp major peaks during moult from second to third instar larva and during pupariation; lower minor peaks around the middle of both 2nd and 3rd instars. Significant differences between the strains and conditions were also found: dopamine levels were lower throughout the 2nd instar and during the 2nd to 3rd instar moult of mutant strain larvae (M/d) as compared to wild-type larvae (W/nd and W/d); while the late 2nd and late 3rd instar larvae destined to diapause (W/d) maintained relatively high dopamine concentrations, their counterparts destined to continuous development (W/nd and M/d) significantly decreased dopamine levels prior to the 2nd to 3rd instar moult or pupariation. Possible relationship between the dopamine levels and diapause induction/onset in C. costata larvae is discussed. Integument contained more than 90% of the dopamine found in the whole body. The gut and central nervous tissues showed relatively low pools of dopamine, only trace amounts were detected in haemolymph and no dopamine was found in fat body. DOPA levels were low and stable throughout larval development of both W and M strains and under both conditions. NADA levels peaked during second halves of 2nd and 3rd instars of both strains, then dropped to trace levels and were elevated again during 2nd to 3rd instar moult as well as in tanned prepupae. No elevation of NADA levels was recorded in 3rd instar W/d larvae which entered diapause.  相似文献

本文就温度对中华虎凤蝶幼虫的生存与生长发育进行了研究。结果表明,1龄幼虫16~32℃范围内的死亡率无显著差异;2龄幼虫死亡率在32℃下达30.92%,显著高于其它温度;3~5龄幼虫32℃下全部死亡,其它温度下多以28℃为高。1~2龄幼虫在16~32℃和3~5龄幼虫在16~28℃范围内的发育历期随温度升高而显著缩短,而平均发育速率则反之。用Weibull分布函数能较好地拟合各龄幼虫的存活率曲线,并由此判断出各存活率曲线类型。此外,还测定了各龄幼虫的发育起点温度和有效积温。最后建议中华虎凤蝶1~2龄和3~5龄幼虫饲养适宜温度分别为28℃和20~24℃。  相似文献
