3D particle-in-cell plasma simulations for the field configurations implemented in the CERA-RX(C) ECR X-ray generator (2.45 GHz) have been conducted. Dependences of the energy spectra of electrons incident on the target electrode on the amplitude and frequency of pulsations of the electric field in a megahertz range are derived. The simulation data are compared with the results of the full-scale experiment.  相似文献

According to a computer simulation, the randomized pulsating electric field can strongly influence the ECR plasma heating in a nonuniform magnetic field. It has been found out that the electron energy spectrum is shifted to the high energy region. The obtained effect is intended to be used in the ECR sources for effective X-ray generation.  相似文献

Basic experimental results on cyclotron heating of the ion plasma component in the Globus-M spherical tokamak obtained by means of the ACORD-12 charge-exchange ion analyzer are presented. A procedure for determining the maximum energy of fast ions confined in the plasma is described. The procedure was applied to estimate the limiting energy of hydrogen minority ions accelerated during ion cyclotron heating in the Globus-M tokamak. The experimental evaluation of the maximum hydrogen ion energy is confirmed by simulations of ion orbits. Recommendations for optimizing experiments on ion cyclotron heating in the Globus-M tokamak are formulated.  相似文献

The electron distribution function is modeled numerically with allowance for Coulomb collisions and quasilinear effects under cyclotron resonance conditions by solving a two-dimensional kinetic equation containing the quasilinear diffusion operator and the Coulomb collision operator in the Landau form. Two simplified model collision integrals that make it possible to describe electron heating by microwave radiation are considered. The first model collision operator is obtained by introducing the parametric time dependence of the temperature of the background Maxwellian electrons into the linear collision integral. It is shown that the heating of the bulk electrons can be described in a noncontradictory way if the temperature dynamics of the background electrons is calculated from the equation of energy balance, which is governed by the amount of the microwave power absorbed by the resonant electrons with the distribution function modified due to quasilinear effects. This conclusion is confirmed in a more rigorous fashion by comparing the solutions obtained using the first model Coulomb collision integral with those obtained using the second model integral, namely, the nonlinear operator derived by averaging the distribution function of the scattering electrons over pitch angles. The time-dependent linear collision integral is used to obtain analytic solutions describing quasi-steady electron heating with allowance for the quasilinear degradation of microwave power absorption.  相似文献

Results are presented from experiments on the acceleration of electrons by a 2.45-GHz microwave field in an adiabatic mirror trap under electron cyclotron resonance conditions, the electric and wave vectors of the wave being orthogonal to the trap axis. At a microwave electric field of ≥10 V/cm and air pressures of 10?6–10?4 Torr (the experiments were also performed with helium and argon), a self-sustained discharge was initiated in which a fraction of plasma electrons were accelerated to energies of 0.3–0.5 MeV. After the onset of instability, the acceleration terminated; the plasma decayed; and the accelerated electrons escaped toward the chamber wall, causing the generation of X-ray emission. Estimates show that electrons can be accelerated to the above energies only in the regime of self-phased interaction with the microwave field, provided that the electrons with a relativistically increased mass penetrate into the region with a higher magnetic field. It is shown that the negative-mass instability also can contribute to electron acceleration. The dynamic friction of the fast electrons by neutral particles in the drift space between the resonance zones does not suppress electron acceleration, so the electrons pass into a runaway regime. Since the air molecules excited by relativistic runaway electrons radiate primarily in the red spectral region, this experiment can be considered as a model of high-altitude atmospheric discharges, known as “red sprites.”  相似文献

Results from experimental studies of plasma storage in a Penning-Malmberg trap at the LEPTA facility are presented. The number of stored particles is found to increase substantially when using the so-called “rotating wall” method, in which a transverse rotating electric field generated by a cylindrical segmented electrode cut into four pairs is applied to the plasma storage region. The conditions of transverse compression of the plasma bunch under the action of the rotating field and buffer gas are studied. The optimal storage parameters are determined for these experimental conditions. Mechanisms of the action of the rotating field and buffer gas on the process of plasma storage are discussed.  相似文献

In experiments on the generation and electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) of plasma in the L-2M stellarator, non-Maxwellian two-slope soft X-ray (SXR) spectra were observed. The temperatures of the thermal and epithermal components of the spectra were measured as functions of the heating power and plasma density. A hypothesis based on the experimental results is suggested to explain the formation mechanism of two-slope SXR spectra in the ECRH experiments at the L-2M stellarator. The measured SXR spectra are compared with the results of numerical simulations.  相似文献

Backscattering of gyrotron radiation (θ = π) by short-wavelength density fluctuations (k = 30 cm?1) in the plasma of the L-2M stellarator was studied under conditions of electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma heating at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency (75 GHz). The scattering of the O-wave emerging due to the splitting of the linearly polarized gyrotron radiation into the X- and O-waves was analyzed. The signal obtained after homodyne detection of scattered radiation is a result of interference of the reference signal, the quasi-steady component, and the fast oscillating component. The coefficients of reflection of the quasi-steady component, R = 2 (Y), and fast oscillating component, R 2 (Y), of scattered radiation are estimated. The growth of the R 2 (Y) coefficient from 3.7 × 10?4 to 5.2 × 10?4 with increasing ECR heating power from 190 to 430 kW is found to correlate with the decrease in the energy lifetime from 1.9 to 1.46 ms. The relative density of short-wavelength fluctuations is estimated to be 〈n 2 〉/〈n e 2 〉 = 3 × 10?7. It is shown that the frequencies of short-wavelength fluctuations are in the range 10–150 kHz. The recorded short-wavelength fluctuations can be interpreted as structural turbulence, the energy of which comprises ~10% of the total fluctuations energy. Simulations of transport processes show that neoclassical heat fluxes are much smaller than anomalous ones. It is suggested that short-wavelength turbulence plays a decisive role in the anomalous heat transport.  相似文献

Reflection and backscattering of high-power (400 kW) gyrotron radiation creating and heating plasma at the second harmonic of the electronic cyclotron frequency in the L-2M stellarator have been investigated experimentally. The effect of the displacement of the gyroresonance region from the axis of the plasma column under doubling of the plasma density on the processes of reflection and backscattering of microwave radiation has been examined. A near doubling of short-wavelength (k ≈ 30 cm–1) turbulent density fluctuations squared is observed. The change in the energy confinement time under variations of plasma parameters and characteristics of short-wavelength turbulence is discussed. A discrepancy between the measured values of the reflection coefficient from the electron cyclotron resonance heating region and predictions of the one-dimensional model is revealed.  相似文献

Conditions for efficient ion heating in the interaction of lower hybrid waves with plasma are experimentally determined. Experiments show that efficient lower hybrid heating stimulates a transition to the improved confinement mode. The formation of internal and external transport barriers is associated with strong central ion heating, which results in a change of the radial electric field E r and an increase in the shear of the poloidal plasma velocity. The improved confinement mode in the central region of the discharge is attained under the combined action of lower hybrid heating and an additional rapid increase in the plasma current. A new mechanism for the generation of an additional field E r is proposed to explain the formation of a transport barrier.  相似文献

The feasibility of matching electromagnetic radiation in the electron cyclotron frequency range to a dense plasma in an open magnetic trap by producing an inverted (with a minimum on the axis) plasma density profile is discussed. The use of such a profile shows promise for the implementation of efficient cyclotron heating at plasma densities above the critical density, at which the Langmuir frequency is equal to the heating radiation frequency. Examples of the magnetic field and plasma density distributions in a mirror trap are presented for which analysis of the beam trajectories shows the feasibility of efficient electron cyclotron absorption of microwave beams in overcritical plasma.  相似文献

The ion contribution to the dielectric function of a plasma in an external electric field is determined by applying a kinetic approach to the ions in a parent gas in which the main mechanism for ion scattering is resonant charge exchange. The ion scattering frequency is assumed to be constant.  相似文献

Results are presented from investigations of the possibility of heating a hydrogen plasma at the fundamental harmonic of the ion cyclotron frequency in the T-11M tokamak. The fluxes of charge-exchange atoms that escape from the plasma in the radial direction and across the toroidal magnetic field (transverse neutrals) were recorded by a Lakmus neutral particle analyzer. Measurements by the analyzer show that, during an RF pulse, the ion temperature increases by approximately 50–100 eV. Such plasma parameters as the ion temperature, rotation velocity, and isotopic composition were measured by a high-resolution spectrometer. According to the data from high-resolution spectroscopy, the ion temperature increases by approximately 150 eV. Results from numerical simulations of the ion cyclotron resonance heating of a hydrogen plasma in the T-11M tokamak are also given.  相似文献

The electron energy distribution function in an afterglow molecular nitrogen plasma is studied both experimentally and theoretically under the conditions of weak electric fields such that the electron gas is heated by superelastic collisions of electrons with vibrationally excited molecules. Based on the mean electron energy balance, it is established that, depending on the degree of plasma ionization and the vibrational temperature of nitrogen molecules, an afterglow plasma may evolve into two states, differing in electron temperature. This kind of bistability is found to stem from the difference in the main mechanisms for electron energy losses in the two stable states. The prediction that the shape of the electron energy distribution function should change in a jumplike manner when a weak electric field is imposed has been confirmed experimentally.  相似文献

The cyclotron resonance model, recently proposed to account for physiological response to weak environmental magnetic fields, is shown to violate the laws of classical mechanics. Further, it is argued that the ubiquitous presence of dynamic friction in fluid media precludes significant magnetic effects on membrane ion transport.  相似文献

A randomly connected network is constructed with similar characteristics (e.g., the ratio of excitatory and inhibitory neurons, the connection probability between neurons, and the axonal conduction delays) as that in the mammalian neocortex and the effects of high-frequency electrical field on the response of the network to a subthreshold low-frequency electrical field are studied in detail. It is found that both the amplitude and frequency of the high-frequency electrical field can modulate the response of the network to the low-frequency electric field. Moreover, vibrational resonance (VR) phenomenon induced by the two types of electrical fields can also be influenced by the network parameters, such as the neuron population, the connection probability between neurons and the synaptic strength. It is interesting that VR is found to be related with the ratio of excitatory neurons that are under high-frequency electrical stimuli. In summary, it is suggested that the interaction of excitatory and inhibitory currents is also an important factor that can influence the performance of VR in neural networks.  相似文献

In experiments on electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) heating of plasma at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency in the L-2M stellarator, the effect of partial reflection of high-power gyrotron radiation from the ECR heating region located in the center of the plasma column was revealed. The reflection coefficient is found to be on the order of 10?3. The coefficient of reflection of an extraordinary wave from the second-harmonic ECR region is calculated in the one-dimensional full-wave model. The calculated and measured values of the reflection coefficient are found to coincide in order of magnitude.  相似文献

The identification of suitable stem cell cultures and differentiating conditions that are free of xenogenic growth supplements is an important step in finding the clinical applicability of cell therapy in two important fields of human medicine: heart failure and bone remodeling, growth and repair. We recently demonstrated the possibility of obtaining cardiac stem cells (CSCs) from human endomyocardial biopsy specimens. CSCs self-assemble into multi-cellular clusters known as cardiospheres (CSps) that engraft and partially regenerate infarcted myocardium. CSps and cardiosphere-derived-cells (CDCs) were exposed for five days in an incubator regulated for temperature, humidity, and CO(2) inside a solenoid system. This system was placed in a magnetically shielded room. The cells were exposed simultaneously to a static magnetic field (MF) and a parallel low-alternating frequency MF, close to the cyclotron frequency corresponding to the charge/mass ratio of the Ca(++) ion. In this exposure condition, CSps and CDCs modulate their differentiation turning on cardiogenesis and turning off vasculogenesis. Cardiac markers such as troponin I (TnI) and myosin heavy chain (MHC) were up-regulated. Conversely, angiogenic markers such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and kinase domain receptor (KDR) were down-regulated as evidenced by immunocytochemistry. Exposure to the 7 Hz calcium ion cyclotron resonance (ICR) frequency can modulate the cardiogenic vs. angiogenic differentiation process of ex vivo expanded CSCs. This may pave the way for novel approaches in tissue engineering and cell therapy. With regard to bone remodeling, it has been suggested that bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) may be considered as a potential therapeutic tool. Using the Ca(++)-dependent specific differentiation potential of the ELF-MF 7 Hz ICR, we show here that exposure of human MSC to these same MF conditions enhanced the expression of osteoblast differentiation markers such as alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin, and osteopontin, as analyzed by real-time quantitative PCR, without affecting cell proliferation. As expected, while the differentiation marker factors were up regulated, the ICR electromagnetic field down regulated osteoprotegerin gene expression, a critical regulator of postnatal skeletal development and homeostasis in humans as well as mice.  相似文献
