The antibacterial, antifungal, acute cytotoxicity, phytotoxicity and insecticidal profile of the crude extract and various fractions of Indigofera gerardiana have been studied. Six bacterial and fungal strains were used, of which Samonella typhi and Microsporum canis were the most susceptible strains with MICs 0.37 mg/mL and 0.09 mg/mL, respectively. The crude extract and the fractions showed low insecticidal activity against Sitophilus oryzae, Rhyzopertha dominica and Callosbruchus analis but no activity against Tribolium castaneum. The brine shrimp lethality assay showed absence of any measurable cytotoxicity of the crude extract and fractions, showing a good safety profile at a preliminary level. All the fractions except crude extract revealed profound and highly significant herbicidal activity against Lemna minor at the concentration of 1000 μg/mL. Indigofera gerardiana was shown by in-vitro assays to be a potential source for natural antifungal, antibacterial and herbicidal agents.  相似文献

Botryosphaeriaceae fungi are phytopathogens and human opportunists. The influence of temperature on the phytotoxicity and cytotoxicity of culture filtrates of five Botryosphaeriaceae species was investigated. All culture filtrates of fungi grown at 25 °C were phytotoxic: symptoms were evaluated based on visual inspection of necrosis areas and on the maximum quantum yield of photosystem II, Fv/Fm. Diplodia corticola and Neofusicoccum kwambonambiense were the most phytotoxic, followed by Neofusicoccum parvum CAA704 and Botryosphaeria dothidea. Phytotoxicity dramatically decreased when strains were grown at 37 °C, except for B. dothidea. All strains, except N. parvum CAA366 and Neofusicoccum eucalyptorum, grown either at 25 °C or 37 °C, were toxic to mammalian cells; at 25 °C and at 37°C, D. corticola and B. dothidea were the most cytotoxic, respectively. Although the toxicity of B. dothidea to both cell lines and of N. kwambonambiense to Vero cells increased with temperature, the opposite was found for the other species tested. Our results suggest that temperature modulates the expression of toxic compounds that, in a scenario of a global increase of temperature, may contribute to new plant infections but also human infections, especially in the case of B. dothidea.  相似文献

Isarfelin, a peptide with inhibitory activity on mycelial growth in Rhizoctonia solani and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and insecticidal activity toward Leucania separata, was isolated from the mycelia of Isaria felina. The IC50 value of its antifungal activity against R. solani was 3.1 μg mL−1. However, it was devoid of activity toward several bacterial species including Bacillus subtilis, E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The isolation procedure involved ethanol extraction, adsorption on YPR II macropore adsorption resin, ethyl acetate extraction, petroleum ether precipitation and recrystallization from ethyl acetate.  相似文献

A series of antibacterial and antifungal sulfonamide (sulfanilamide, sulfaguanidine, sulfamethaxozole, 4-aminoethylbenzene-sulfonamide and 4-amino-6-trifluoromethyl-benzene-1,3-disulfonamide) derived chromones, previously reported as inhibitors of carbonic anhydrase, have been screened for in-vitro antibacterial activity against four Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi and Shigella flexener) and two Gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus) bacterial strains, and for in-vitro antifungal activity against Trichophyton longifusus, Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus, Microsporum canis, Fusarium solani, Candida glaberata. All compounds (1)-(5) showed significant antibacterial activity against all four Gram-negative species and both Gram-positive species. However, three of them, (1), (4) and (5), were found to be comparatively much more active compared to (2) and (3). Of these, (5) was found to be the most active one. For antifungal activity, generally compounds (1) and (2) showed significant activity against more than three strains whereas (3)-(5) also showed significant activity against varied fungal strains. In the brine shrimp bioassay for in-vitro cytotoxic properties, only two compounds, (4) and (5) displayed potent cytotoxic activity, LD50 = 2.732 x 10(-4)M) and LD50 = 2.290 x 10(-4)M) respectively, against Artemia salina.  相似文献

An activity-guided fractionation of a methanol-dichloromethane extract obtained from the aerial parts of Eysenhardtia texana led to the isolation of two novel antibacterial and antifungal flavanones together with a known flavanone. Their structures were established as 4',5,7-trihydroxy-8-methyl-6-(3-methyl-[2-butenyl])-(2S)-flavanone, 4',5,7-trihydroxy-6-methyl-8-(3-methyl-[2-butenyl])-(2S)-flavanone and 4',5-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-6-(3-methyl-[2-butenyl])-(2S)-flavanone on the basis of their UV, 1D and 2D-NMR spectra.  相似文献

During the past decades, carbon dots (CDs) as a kind of nanoparticles with interesting fluorescence properties have retained their place as one of the best bioimaging agents, although their effects on plants have been rarely studied. In this study, we synthesized two kinds of concentration-dependent multicolour CDs using two solvent approaches, phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and ethanol 20%. We confirmed the nature of the CDs through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential, X-ray powder diffraction, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Afterwards, the cytotoxicity, phytotoxicity, and bioimaging of animal cells and plants using both synthesized CDs were examined. Eventually, PBS-based CDs were recommended during this study as an efficient bioimaging agent for animal cells and plants because of the appealing features of this CD, such as a small size range of less than 10 nm, surface charge with an average of −24 mV, a high quantum yield of 35.82%, the higher fluorescence intensity of ~400 a.u. for blue fluorescence light and 250 a.u. for green fluorescence light. Other features showing the superiority of PBS-based CDs include high photostability, low phytotoxicity (p ≤ 0.05 and p ≤ 0.01) and above all, there was no significant cytotoxicity at the concentration range of 500–7.81 μg/ml.  相似文献

A new series of four biologically active triazole derived Schiff base ligands (L1L4) and their cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes (116) have been synthesized and characterized. The ligands were prepared by the condensation reaction of 3-amino-5-methylthio-1H-1,2,4-triazole with chloro-, bromo- and nitro-substituted 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde in an equimolar ratio. The antibacterial and antifungal bioactivity data showed the metal(II) complexes to be more potent antibacterial and antifungal than the parent Schiff bases against one or more bacterial and fungal species.  相似文献

(Euphorbiaceae) and its various fractions in different solvent systems (chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol) were screened for antibacterial and antifungal activities. Crude extract and subsequent fractions demonstrated moderate to excellent antibacterial activities against the tested pathogens. Highest antibacterial activity was displayed by both chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions (100%) followed by the crude extract (68%) against Salmonella typhi. Similarly, crude extract and its subsequent fractions showed mild to excellent activities in antifungal bioassay with maximum (76%) antifungal activity against Microsporum canis by the chloroform fraction followed by the crude extract (65%).  相似文献

Cyanobacteria are known to be a rich source of biologically active compounds some of which can have pharmaceutical importance. In this work we present the screening results of cyanobacterial strains for their antibacterial, antifungal, and cytotoxic activity. Cyanobacterial strains were isolated from various soil types in province of Vojvodina and Central Serbia, Republic of Serbia. The screening included 9 strains of Anabaena and 9 strains of Nostoc. Both, extracellular products (from the culture liquid) and cellular crude lipophilic extracts were tested against 13 bacterial strains and 8 fungal strains. Cytotoxic activity was tested against three human cell lines. Methanol extracts were prepared according to ?stensvik. Antibacterial and antifungal activities were determined measuring inhibition zone, 48 h after inoculation. The cytotoxic activity was determined by sulforhodamine B (SRB) colorimetric assay. Of all cyanobacterial strains tested, 52% showed some antifungal and 41% antibacterial activity. Two out of six tested strains possessed cytotoxic activity. The cytotoxic activity of Anabaena strain S12 was found both in culture liquid and crude cell extract. It occurred specifically between the 21st and 42nd day of cultivation against HeLa and MCF7 cells, but had no activity against cell line derived from a healthy tissue. A high percentage of the active strains among the tested strains justify the effort of screening cyanobacteria that are isolated from terrestrial environments. The most promising strains for the fur- ther study are Anabaena strain S12 which showed strong cytotoxic and antibacterial activity and Ana- baena strain S20 which produces a potent antifungal compound. The future work, besides further screening and chemical identification of the active compounds, should also include the development of culture techniques that would lead to more efficient production of biologically active compounds.  相似文献

In the present study, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties of 15 lipohylic extracts obtained from different parts (leaf, branch, stem, kernel, shell skins, seeds) of Pistacia vera were screened against both standard and the isolated strains of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans and C. parapsilosis by microdilution method. Both Herpes simplex (DNA) and Parainfluenza viruses (RNA) were used for the determination of antiviral activity of the P. vera extracts by using Vero cell line. Ampicilline, ofloxocine, ketoconazole, fluconazole, acyclovir and oseltamivir were used as the control agents. The extracts showed little antibacterial activity between the range of 128-256 microg/ml concentrations whereas they had noticeable antifungal activity at the same concentrations. Kernel and seed extracts showed significant antiviral activity compared to the rest of the extracts as well as the controls.  相似文献

Lysozyme-type antibacterial and antifungal activity in pupae of Cameraria ohridella was studied. Activity against Micrococcus luteus and Bacillus megaterium was detected in pupae extract. Also antifungal activity from C. ohridella pupae extract directed against Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain W 303 was shown. During immunoblotting two bands in pupae extract, with molecular mass of about 15 and 28 kDa were recognized by antibodies directed against HEWL. After acid electrophoresis followed by bioautography of the extract, two lytic zones showing lysozyme-type activity against M. luteus were observed. Two bacteria: Gram-positive Aerococcus viridans and Gram-negative Aeromonas salmonicida ssp. masoucida were isolated from pupae of C. ohridella. Their activity against M. luteus, B. megaterium, and S. cerevisiae W303 was detected. After immunoblotting with antibodies against HEWL, also two proteins from bacterial suspensions of A. viridans and A. salmonicida were detected, about 15 and 28 kDa.  相似文献

A series of ferrocene appended chalcone allied triazole coupled organosilatranes (FCTSa 7–FCTSa 12) were synthesised with the aim of amalgamating the pharmacological action of the constituting moieties into a single molecular scaffold. All the synthesised silatranes were well characterized by various spectroscopic techniques like IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and elemental analysis. Organosilatranes were then evaluated for their biological alacrity against bacterial and fungal strains compared with the standard drugs Rifampicin and Amphotericin B respectively. The ferrocene conjugates were found to be only moderately effective against the tested microbes. However, the organosilatranes conceded excellent efficacy against parasite G. lamblia with FCTSa 11 arraying the leading results. On the other hand against another parasite T. vaginalis, FCTSa 8 has emerged as an outstanding composite. Further, Total Antioxidant Assay (TAA) with 2,2′-azino-bis-3-(ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) revealed FCTSa 10 to be the best claimant for radical scavenging activity. Along these lines, introducing some different substituents in the synthesised hybrids may act as a useful strategy for increasing the biological profile of the drugs.  相似文献

These compounds were screened for their in-vitro antibacterial activity against four Gram-negative (E. coli, S. flexneri, P. aeruginosa and S. typhi) and two Gram-positive (B. subtilis and S. aureus) bacterial strains and for in-vitro antifungal activity against T. longifusus, C. albicans, A. flavus, M. canis, F. solani and C. glaberata. Results revealed that a significant antibacterial activity was observed by compounds (4) and (5), (6) and (8) against two Gram-negative, (P. aeruginosa and S. typhi) and two Gram-positive (B. subtilis and S. aureus) species, respectively. Of these (4) was found to be the most active. Similarly, for antifungal activity compounds (3) and (8) showed significant activity against M. canis and, (6) and (8) against F. solani. 1‐phenyl‐3‐methyl‐4‐benzoyl‐5‐pyrazolone 4‐ethyl‐thiosemicarbazone (HL) and its copper(II), vanadium(V) and nickel(II) complexes: [Cu(L)(Cl)]·C2H5OH·( 1 ), [Cu(L)2]·H2O ( 2 ), [Cu(L)(Br)]·H2O·CH3OH ( 3 ), [Cu(L)(NO3)]·2C2H5OH ( 4 ), [VO2(L)]·2H2O ( 5 ), [Ni(L)2]·H2O ( 6 ), were synthesized and characterized. The ligand has been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The tridentate nature of the ligand is evident from the IR spectra. The copper(II), vanadium(V) and nickel(II) complexes have been characterized by different physico‐chemical techniques such as molar conductivity, magnetic susceptibility measurements and electronic, infrared and electron paramagnetic resonance spectral studies. The structures of the ligand and its copper(II) ( 2 , 4 ), and vanadium(V) ( 5 ) complexes have been determined by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. The composition of the coordination polyhedron of the central atom in 2 , 4 and 5 is different. The tetrahedral coordination geometry of Cu was found in complex 2 while in complex 4 , it is square planar, in complex 5 the coordination polyhedron of the central ion is distorted square pyramid. The in vitro antibacterial activity of the complexes against Escherichia coli, Salmonella abony, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus and the antifungal activity against Candida albicans strains was higher for the metal complexes than for free ligand. The effect of the free ligand and its metal complexes on the proliferation of HL‐60 cells was tested.  相似文献

Vasostatin-1, the natural N-terminal 1-76 chromogranin A (CGA)-derived fragment in bovine sequence, has been purified from chromaffin secretory granules and identified by sequencing and matrix-assisted laser desorption time-of-flight mass spectrometry. This peptide, which displays antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria at micromolar concentrations, is also able to kill a large variety of filamentous fungi and yeast cells in the 1-10 microM range. We have found that the C-terminal moiety of vasostatin-1 is essential for the antifungal activity, and shorter active peptides have been synthesized. In addition, from the comparison with the activity displayed by related peptides (human recombinant and rat synthetic fragments), we could determine that antibacterial and antifungal activities have different structural requirements. To assess for such activities in vivo, CGA and CGA-derived fragments were identified in secretory material released from human polymorphonuclear neutrophils upon stimulation. Vasostatin-1, which is stored in a large variety of cells (endocrine, neuroendocrine, and neurons) and which is liberated from stimulated chromaffin and immune cells upon stress, may represent a new component active in innate immunity.  相似文献
