Epidemiological studies have indicated a connection between extremely low frequency magnetic flux densities above 0.4 microT (time weighted average) and childhood leukemia risks. This conclusion is based mainly on indoor exposure measurements. We therefore regarded it important to map outdoor magnetic flux densities in public areas in Trondheim, Norway. Because of seasonal power consumption variations, the fields were measured during both summer and winter. Magnetic flux density was mapped 1.0 m above the ground along 17 km of pavements in downtown Trondheim. The spectrum was measured at some spots and the magnetic flux density emanated mainly from the power frequency of 50 Hz. In summer less than 4% of the streets showed values exceeding 0.4 microT, increasing to 29% and 34% on cold and on snowy winter days, respectively. The average levels were 0.13 microT (summer), 0.85 microT (winter, cold), and 0.90 microT (winter, snow), with the highest recorded value of 37 microT. High spot measurements were usually encountered above underground transformer substations. In winter electric heating of pavements also gave rise to relatively high flux densities. There was no indication that the ICNIRP basic restriction was exceeded. It would be of interest to map the flux density situation in other cities and towns with a cold climate.  相似文献

Magnetic field levels were studied in an urban area—the city of Cáceres (Spain). The study included systematic spot measurements throughout the city, an analysis of the temporal variation of the magnetic field, and the incorporation of the data into a geographic information system. The levels detected were at most 7.3% of the ICNIRP reference levels, and the highest fields were found in the oldest neighborhoods. Considered overall, the ELF magnetic flux density levels determined in the present study were between those found in residential and in working environments. Knowledge of the levels of such fields in urban areas is therefore fundamental in evaluating the population’s overall exposure, especially for people who work outdoors.  相似文献

In this paper, the magnetic flux density (MFD) distribution in a neonatal intensive care unit is described and MFD values inside a few open infant warming systems and incubators are reported. Typical measured values of the magnetic flux density at power frequency (50 Hz) in the "general environment" (the rooms of the unit) were lower than 0.2 microT, while higher MFD values were detected close to medical equipment and inside the open infant warming systems. In both cases, the magnetic flux density quickly decreases with increasing distance, so that measured values are reduced to "background" (i.e., general environment) levels 20-30 cm away from the sources. The total harmonic content over the 100-800 Hz frequency range was also evaluated. In the general environment, measured values in this band were negligible, while this was not the case close to medical equipment. Field levels inside the open and closed incubators depend on the position of the electronic control system, of the heating power generator and its winding conductor, and of the 220 V main plug. The magnetic flux density was also monitored for a prolonged period of time in a few types of open infant warming systems and incubators under standard intensive care unit operation with premature newborn present.  相似文献

From 2013 to 2018, in‐situ measurements of radiofrequency (RF) electromagnetic fields (EMF) and extremely low‐frequency (ELF) electric and magnetic fields in 317 existing and under‐construction children's playground facilities, in 16 municipalities all over Greece, were carried out by the Greek Atomic Energy Commission (EEAE). These measurements were conducted following legislative framework established in 2009, which requires that compliance with the established exposure limits for EMFs should be verified in playground areas. The results are presented by the value of the electric field (E) and exposure ratio (Λ) for the RF EMF, as well as the value of the electric field (E) and magnetic flux density (B) for the ELF electric and magnetic fields. Statistical analysis tools were applied on measurement data and conclusions have been made, taking into consideration: (i) environment type (urban/suburban), and (ii) vicinity to any transmitting installations. Measurement results correspond to the typical EMF background levels for each environment type. Concerning the environment type, RF EMF, and ELF electric/magnetic field measurements reveal no differentiation between urban and suburban environments. In this study, we measured and analyzed the spectral characteristics of a low-frequency magnetic field (MF) inside several gasoline-powered cars while driving on busy city roads. The spectra obtained upon measurements in the interior of the cars are compared with those measured in office locations at different times of the day and with different disturbances of the geomagnetic field (k-index of disturbance 2–8). The power spectral density of the electromagnetic field in cars moving on busy roads in the frequency range of 10−3–102 Hz is one to three orders of magnitude higher than that in urban offices. This raises a question regarding the possible influence of these MFs on the psychophysiological state of drivers. In turn, in the daytime, the MF power in the range from 10−3 to 1 Hz inside the locations is three times higher compared with the power of a strong geomagnetic storm. Despite such an overwhelming magnetic background, geomagnetic storms affect various organisms. The nonspecific effect of magnetic storms is supposed to be associated with relatively long (lasting several hours or more [frequency range of 10−4−10−5 Hz]) periods of enhancement or weakening of the local geomagnetic field. In this range, especially at night, the power spectral density of geomagnetic disturbances is comparable to and can even exceed the power density of urban MFs. © 2020 Bioelectromagnetics Society.  相似文献

Changes in the energy spectra of short-wavelength (k s ≈ 35 cm?1) plasma density fluctuations in the local region of the plasma column (r/a = 0.5–0.6) of the L-2M stellarator were studied by the method of collective scattering of 150-GHz radiation. The plasma was heated at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency, the microwave heating power being in the range of 90–170 kW. A sector limiter was introduced in the peripheral plasma (r/a ≥ 0.8), and the Shafranov shift of the magnetic axis was varied by varying the vertical magnetic field. The results of measurements were averaged over 9–16 discharges. It is found that an increase in the heating power and/or the introduction of the sector limiter in the plasma lead to an increase in the energy of density fluctuations, which correlates with a decrease in the plasma energy lifetime. In the spectra of fluctuations, a broad spectral band in the range of 3–50 kHz was observed in which the spectral density was one order of magnitude higher than in the rest of the spectrum. Analysis of the Fourier spectra showed that the introduction of the sector limiter in the plasma resulted in an increase in both the spectral density of fluctuations in the range of 3–50 kHz and the fraction of quasi-coherent structures in turbulent density fluctuations.  相似文献

We examined the results of 1,835 magnetic field measurements in German residences conducted between November 1997 and September 1999. The measurements were part of an epidemiological study on the relationship between magnetic fields and childhood leukemia. We performed a fixed-location measurement of the magnetic field at 50 Hz and 16 2/3 Hz (frequency of the German railway system) over 24 h in the child’s bedroom in the residence of each study participant. In addition, we conducted a second 24 h-measurement in the living room at 50 Hz, and spot measurements while walking through all rooms of the respective dwelling. Median 50 Hz magnetic fields above 0.2 μT were found to be infrequent in Germany (only 1.4% of all residences). Fields produced by high-voltage power lines (123–420 kV) were lower than expected: the median magnetic field was above 0.2 μT in only 8 (32.0%) of 25 residences located 50 m or closer to a high-voltage power line indicating that power lines in Germany are usually run well below the maximum power load. We found that magnetic fields were correlated with the type of residence and higher magnetic fields were measured in apartment buildings. There was also some evidence for a positive correlation between magnetic fields and traffic density and an inverse association between magnetic fields and family net income. The 24 h-magnetic field measurements correlated well with the spot measurements (r>0.7). However, when dichotomized with a cut-off point of 0.2 μT, there was only a poor agreement between the two measurement methods. A loss of the strength of the association after categorization was also observed when comparing the arithmetic mean and median of the same 24 h-measurement. In summary, these analyses give a valuable overview of magnetic field distributions in German residences. Received: 31 January 2000 / Accepted: 25 July 2000  相似文献

Ambient 60-Hz magnetic flux density in an urban neighborhood   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A residential neighborhood in Buffalo, NY, was surveyed with a magnetic field meter to evaluate whether or not spot measurements are reliable predictors of the 60-Hz fields at street corners and residences. The results of repeated measurements over 7 days at 33 street corners in this neighborhood indicate that day-to-day variation in power line magnetic fields is negligible (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.94). Multivariate linear regression analysis of the data indicates that transmission lines and thick, three-phase primary wires near the field measurement site are strong predictors and account for the majority of the ambient magnetic field variance between locations (multiple correlation coefficient squared = 0.60; F ratio = 22.2, P less than .001). Magnetic fields measured at the front sidewalk were highly correlated with fields at the front doorsteps of 45 homes in this neighborhood (gamma = 0.81). These results suggest that ambient power line magnetic field levels at urban residences can be reliably characterized on a one-time site inspection using a hand-held magnetic field meter and a simple wiring classification system.  相似文献

LamB, a sugar-specific channel of Escherichia coli outer membrane was reconstituted into lipid bilayer membranes and the current noise was investigated using fast Fourier transformation. The current noise through the open channels had a rather small spectral density, which was a function of the inverse frequency up to about 100 Hz. The spectral density of the noise of the open LamB channels was a quadratic function of the applied voltage. Its magnitude was not correlated to the number of channels in the lipid bilayer membrane. Upon addition of sugars to the aqueous phase the current decreased in a dose-dependent manner. Simultaneously, the spectral density of the current noise increased drastically, which indicated interaction of the sugars with the binding site inside the channel. The frequency dependence of the spectral density was of Lorentzian type, although the power of its frequency dependence was not identical to -2. Analysis of the power density spectra using a previously proposed simple model (Benz, R., A. Schmid, and G. H. Vos-Scheperkeuter. 1987. J. Membr. Biol. 100: 12-29), allowed the evaluation of the on- and the off-rate constants for the maltopentaose binding to the binding site inside the LamB channels. This means also that the maltopentaose flux through the LamB channel could be estimated by assuming a simple one-site, two-barrier model for the sugar transport from the results of the noise analysis.  相似文献

Observations recently reported by others indicate that a combination of a weak dc magnetic field and extremely-low-frequency ac magnetic field can produce resonant effects in biological systems. We report measurements of the effects of combined dc and ac magnetic fields on the dc current through channel-free planar phospholipid membranes. The combined dc-ac magnetic fields did affect the dc current through planar phospholipid membranes, but not in every membrane, and not consistently at the same values of magnetic flux density and frequency. None of our measurements showed resonant response akin to the cyclotron-like resonance reported in diatoms [Smith et al., 1987] and lymphocytes [Liboff et al., 1987].  相似文献

In the l = 3/m = 9 Uragan-3M (U3-M) torsatron (R 0 = 1 m, ā ≈ 0.12 m, ι(ā)/2π ~ 0.3) with an open helical divertor and a plasma produced and heated by RF fields (ω ? ωci), studies of low frequency (5–100 kHz) density and potential fluctuations in the SOL plasma and in the diverted plasma flows (DPFs), have been carried out. It is shown, that in the SOL to more (less) distantly located points relative to the last closed magnetic surface, higher (lower) frequency fluctuations are inherent. Such a spectral splitting in two sub-ranges occurs in the DPFs too. A peculiarity of the spatial distribution of DPF fluctuation spectra is that lower frequency fluctuations dominate on the ion toroidal B × ?B drift side. During L-H-like transition in U-3M simultaneously with strong E r shear formation, a suppression of lower frequency fluctuations and a decrease of local radial turbulent particle flux take place. Results are presented of investigation of plasma density fluctuations in SOL with the use of probability distribution function (PDF) analysis. Evaluations of skewness and kurtosis of fluctuations have been made. The analysis of I s fluctuations in DPF have been carried out in a similar way.  相似文献

A point measurement of the magnetic field (MF) near a typical spot welding machine showed that the magnetic flux density was above the ICNIRP reference level. To investigate if the basic restrictions were exceeded, the induced body currents in a full 3D human model were calculated. It was found that at an operator position of 34 cm away from the machine the maximum induced current density was below the ICNIRP basic restriction. But if the operator was closer to the machine, the basic restriction was exceeded. An important finding of the present article is that the basic restriction can be exceeded although the MF spatially averaged over the whole body is well below the reference level.  相似文献

Acoustic signals play a fundamental role in avian territory defence and mate attraction. Several studies have now shown that spectral properties of bird song differ between urban and rural environments. Previously this has been attributed to competition for acoustic space as a result of low-frequency noise present in cities. However, the physical structure of urban areas may have a contributory effect. Here we investigate the sound degradation properties of woodland and city environments using both urban and rural great tit song. We show that although urban surroundings caused significantly less degradation to both songs, the transmission efficiency of rural song compared to urban song was significantly lower in the city. While differences between the two songs in woodland were generally minimal, some measures of the transmission efficiency of rural song were significantly lower than those of urban song, suggesting additional benefits to singing rural songs in this setting. In an attempt to create artificial urban song, we mimicked the increase in minimum frequency found several times previously in urban song. However, this did not replicate the same transmission properties as true urban song, suggesting changes in other song characteristics, such as temporal adjustments, are needed to further increase transmission of an avian signal in the city. We suggest that the structure of the acoustic environment, in addition to the background noise, plays an important role in signal adaptation.  相似文献

A method of separate monitoring "instant" changes of the VLF, LF and HF power spectral components of heart rate variability, has been developed. The power of the LF and HF spectral components were proved to be continuously changing. The period of these power fluctuations could stay within 15 to 150 sec. Comparison of the heart rate variability spectrum with LF and HF spectral components power fluctuations' spectrums has shown that the frequencies of the LF and HF spectral components power fluctuations stay within the VLF range. The co-operative spectrum form of these fluctuations repeats the form of the VLF peak. In cases when the LF and HF spectral components power fluctuations' periods do not coincide, VLF has two peaks. The frequency of one VLF peak coincides with frequency of the HF power fluctuations, and the frequency of another--with the frequency of LF power fluctuations.  相似文献

Microwave scattering diagnostics are described that allow direct measurements of the turbulent processes in the high-temperature plasma of magnetic confinement systems. The first physical results are presented from fluctuation measurements carried out in 2000–2001 in three stellarators: L-2M (Institute of General Physics, Moscow), LHD (National Institute of Fusion Science, Toki), and TJ-II (CIEMAT, Madrid). Plasma density fluctuations in the axial (heating) regions of the L-2M and LHD stellarators were measured from microwave scattering at the fundamental harmonic of the heating gyrotron radiation. In the TJ-II stellarator, a separate 2-mm microwave source was used to produce a probing beam; the measurements were performed at the middle of the plasma radius. Characteristic features of fluctuations, common for all three devices, are revealed by the methods of statistical and spectral analysis. These features are the wide frequency Fourier and wavelet spectra, autocorrelation functions with slowly decreasing tails, and non-Gaussian probability distributions of the magnitudes and the increments in the magnitude of fluctuations. Observations showed the high level of coherence between turbulent fluctuations in the central region and at the edge of the L-2M plasma. The drift-dissipative instability and the instability driven by trapped electrons are examined as possible sources of turbulence in a high-temperature plasma.  相似文献

Reflection of the heating extraordinary microwave incident obliquely onto the surface of the electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) at the second harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency in the 3D magnetic configuration of the L-2M stellarator was studied experimentally. The plasma was heated using two gyrotrons with a total power of 600–700 kW, the specific heating power being 2.4–2.8 MW/m3. The displacement of the ECR region in the course of heating was monitored by measuring the phase of the reflected extraordinary wave. It is found that the growth of the plasma density is accompanied by the displacement of the ECR heating region from the center of the plasma column toward its periphery. The coefficient of reflection of the heating microwave beam from the ECR region was measured. The spectra of short-wavelength (k s ≈ 30 cm?1) plasma density fluctuations were explored by analyzing backscattered microwave radiation. A tenfold increase in the energy of short-wavelength density fluctuations and the growth of the spectral density of fluctuations in the frequency range of 0.3–1.5 MHz were observed.  相似文献

Residential magnetic field (MF) measurements were performed for the first time in a representative sample of French dwellings. Exposure levels were assessed by two methods: indoor and outdoor measurements. Linear and logistic regression models were used to determine factors associated with the time-weighted average (TWA) home MF. TWA magnetic field magnitudes were approximately log-normally distributed with geometric means under 0.010 microT for both indoor and outdoor measurements. Only 5% of the dwellings presented indoor MF levels greater than 0.120 microT (1.2 mG). Both indoor and outdoor MF variations were explained by three factors: wiring configuration, the dwelling's location (i.e., urban or rural), and housing characteristics (individual houses or apartment building). The reliability of outdoor spot measurements with 30-min bedroom recordings was assessed by an intraclass correlation coefficient. The measurements were accurate in rural areas and small towns. In urban centers, local MF variations spoil the outdoor measurement's reliability. If indoor measurements are taken as the reference method, the use of outdoor instead of indoor measurement leads to an important decrease in statistical power. Further assessment of MF near high power transmission lines is necessary to evaluate the usefulness of outdoor spot recordings near such lines. The urban MF environment also has to be explored to identify extraneous sources.  相似文献

In the course of a study on residential magnetic-field exposure, some incidental data were obtained that bear on the issue of confounding of magnetic field exposure by social class. We have explored the possibility that the magnetic flux density of 50 Hz fields measured in Melbourne streets is correlated with a number of variables that index the socio-economic status of the neighborhood. We have examined also for a correlation between field-intensity levels and sums of some or all of the indicators, which were weighted to provide an overall score on socio-economic status. Although some of the indexes were weakly, but significantly, correlated with environmental levels of magnetic fields, the combined indices were not. These results indicate that socio-economic status is not likely to be a confounder in epidemiological studies of residential exposure to ELF magnetic fields in Melbourne.  相似文献

There has recently been increasing interest in neutral models of biodiversity and their ability to reproduce the patterns observed in nature, such as species abundance distributions. Here we investigate the ability of a neutral model to predict phenomena observed in single-population time series, a study complementary to most existing work that concentrates on snapshots in time of the whole community. We consider tests for density dependence, the dominant frequencies of population fluctuation (spectral density) and a relationship between the mean and variance of a fluctuating population (Taylor's power law). We simulated an archipelago model of a set of interconnected local communities with variable mortality rate, migration rate, speciation rate, size of local community and number of local communities. Our spectral analysis showed ‘pink noise’: a departure from a standard random walk dynamics in favor of the higher frequency fluctuations which is partly consistent with empirical data. We detected density dependence in local community time series but not in metacommunity time series. The slope of the Taylor's power law in the model was similar to the slopes observed in natural populations, but the fit to the power law was worse. Our observations of pink noise and density dependence can be attributed to the presence of an upper limit to community sizes and to the effect of migration which distorts temporal autocorrelation in local time series. We conclude that some of the phenomena observed in natural time series can emerge from neutral processes, as a result of random zero-sum birth, death and migration. This suggests the neutral model would be a parsimonious null model for future studies of time series data.  相似文献
