Artificial insemination and embryo transfer programs are dependent on efficient and accurate detection of estrus. Visual observation is accurate at detecting animals in estrus, but efficiency ranges from approximately 50 to 70%. Electronic technologies have been developed in attempts to improve estrus detection efficiency. Commercially available electronic devices for estrus detection are based on changes in physical activity (pedometers), changes in electrical resistance of reproductive tract secretions (intravaginal resistance probes) or mounting activity (mount detectors). All of the commercially available electronic estrus detection devices can improve the efficiency of estrus detection in cattle. Pedometers are most applicable to lactating dairy cattle and have greater accuracy and efficiency when combined with visual observation. Intravaginal resistance measurement is perhaps the least practical method of estrus detection because of labor and animal handling requirements. Individual resistance measurement may have practical application for confirming other inconclusive signs of estrus. Mount monitors have the broadest application to beef and dairy cattle. HeatWatch, the only real-time radiotelometric system available, requires the least labor and animal handling and provides data on the time and duration of each mount. The less expensive stand-alone mount monitors also provide the necessary information for optimum timing of insemination and embryo transfer, but are more labor intensive.  相似文献

Considerable technological advances have been made in the automated detection of estrus in dairy cattle, but few studies have evaluated their relative performance on the same animals or assessed cow-related factors that affect their performance. Our objective was to assess the performance and reliability of three devices commercially available in France for cow estrus detection. The devices were a pedometer (PM; Afitag) and two activity meters (AM1; Heatime-RuminAct, and AM2; HeatPhone). Two algorithms were tested for AM2. We fitted 63 lactating Holstein cows with the three detectors from calving to 90 days after calving. The onset and pattern of cyclicity were monitored from 7 to 90 days postpartum measuring progesterone concentration in milk twice weekly. A total of 211 ovulations were identified. Cyclicity was classified as normal in 60% of cows (38/63). Calculated over the operating period of all the devices (179 periods of estrus), the sensitivities and positive predictive values were, respectively, 71% and 71% for PM, 62% and 84% for AM1, 61% and 67% for the first algorithm of AM2, and 62% and 87% for the second algorithm of AM2. Both activity meters had a lower sensitivity but a higher positive predictive value than the PM (P < 0.05). For all devices, the performance in estrus detection was much poorer at the first postpartum ovulation than at subsequent ovulations (P < 0.05). Lactation rank and milk production affected some devices (P < 0.05). These devices could be used to reinforce visual observations, especially after 50 days postpartum, the minimum recommended delay to insemination. However, their full benefit remains to be verified in different farming systems and taking into account the specific objectives of the dairy farmer.  相似文献

This study constitutes the review of 44 dairy herd investigations that were initiated because of complaints relating to decreased reproductive efficiency. Each investigation was conducted at the request of the veterinary practitioner who provided the routine reproductive examinations and consultations at the farm. Thus the types of problems identified were those not resolved by routine veterinary care and management practices. A total of 4.5, 27.3 and 31.8% of the farms, respectively, failed to keep reproductive records, failed to maintain accurate records on events such as breeding dates, or failed to evaluate available summary reports with the local veterinary practitioner. Of the 44 farms, 50.0, 38.6, 54.5 and 11.4%, respectively, reported problems related to estrus detection rate, number of days to first service (for reasons other than estrus detection), conception rate and early embryonic death. Within each of these reproductive parameters specific problems were defined and discussed. Reproductive inefficiency was found to be most commonly associated with ineffective estrus detection and decreased conception rate. Most importantly, farm managers and employees frequently misunderstood the relationship between the accuracy of estrus detection and the conception rate (61.4% of the farms). We therefore identified factors which have an impact on dairy herd reproductive efficiency to suggest topics for training programs for producers and practicing veterinarians as well as for elective courses for veterinary students in the area of theriogenology.  相似文献

Estrus was synchronized in 64 dairy goats in July with norgestomet ear implants. Half the does received ear implants that contained 6 mg norgestomet and the remaining does received implants that contained 3 mg. Implants were left in place for 11 days. Each doe received i.m. injections of 400 IU PMSG and 50 mug cloprostenol 24 hours prior to implant removal. Twenty-eight of 32 does (87.5%) that received 6 mg or 3 mg norgestomet exhibited onset of estrus within 24 hours of implant removal. All does had exhibited onset of standing estrus by 43 hours after implant removal. Does were hand-mated to fertile bucks twice daily while in standing estrus. There were no differences between does implanted with 6 mg or 3 mg in fertility to the induced estrus (74.2% vs 75% kidding), mean length of gestation (151.0 +/- 3.2 vs 151.6 +/- 2.0 days), mean number of kids per doe (2.1 +/- 0.8 vs 2.3 +/- 0.7) or in mean kid weights (3.10 +/- 0.80 vs 3.06 +/- 0.86 kg) (6 mg vs 3 mg, respectively). It was concluded that ear implants that contained 3 mg of norgestomet were equally as effective as implants that contained 6 mg for synchronization of estrus in dairy goats.  相似文献

Two prostaglandins, Estrumate and Dinolytic, and two progestagens, PRID and Norgestomet were compared for their effectiveness in controlling estrus in dairy cows. A total of 636 animals on 62 different farms in southern Lower Saxony/FRG were used in this study. After treatment with one of the four drugs a double fixed time insemination was always performed at 24-hour intervals. Later, an additional untreated animal was assigned to each group of four. The conception rate in the 734 cows which were inseminated and evaluated under standardized experimental conditions were ES, 51.0%; DY, 46.0%; PRID, 44.5%; NOR, 34.7% and untreated animals, 46.9%. When only those cows which had already calved were considered, the rates were 48.0%, 44.6%, 46.9%, 31.9% and 59.1% respectively. The time of treatment post-partum proved to be significant for the non-return rate 90 (P < 0.01) and the conception rate (P < 0.05). Treatment influenced the estrus cycle in all of the cows. Abnormal cycle length following treatment was observed in 50.7%, 52.0%, 41.6% and 52.8% of the cows in each group as compared to 12.1% in the untreated animals. After the third insemination at least 90% of the cows in each group had conceived. The effect of the various farms proved to be significant with regard to the insemination index (P < 0.01), NRR 90 (P < 0.05) and the conception rate (P < 0.05). All four drugs established their suitability for use under field conditions. Still, modifications in the treatment methods and the insemination regimen could lead to higher fertilization rates.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to analyze whether dry matter intake (DMI), water intake (WI) and BW were influenced by estrus. A second objective was to determine whether correlations exist among these traits in non-estrous days. Data collection included 34 Holstein-Friesian cows from the research farm ‘Haus Riswick’ of the Agricultural Chamber North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. On an individual basis, daily DMI and daily WI were measured automatically by a scale in the feeding trough and a WI monitoring system, respectively. BW was determined by a walk-through scale fitted with two gates – one in front and one behind the scale floor. Data were analyzed around cow’s estrus with day 0 (the day of artificial insemination leading to conception). Means during the reference period, defined as days −3 to −1 and 1 to 3, were compared with the means during estrus (day 0). DMI, WI and BW were affected by estrus. Of all cows, 85.3% and 66.7% had reduced DMI and WI, respectively, on day 0 compared with the reference period. Lower BW was detected in 69.2% of all cows relative to the reference period. During the reference period, average DMI, WI and BW were 23.0, 86.6 and 654.8 kg. A minimum DMI of 20.4 kg and a minimum BW of 644.2 kg were detected on the day of estrus, whereas the minimum WI occurred on the day before estrus. After estrus, DMI, WI and BW returned to baseline values. Intake of concentrated feed did not seem to be influenced by estrus. Positive correlations existed between daily DMI and daily WI (r=0.63) as well as between cows’ daily BW and daily WI (r=0.23). The results warrant further investigations to determine whether monitoring of DMI, WI and BW may assist in predicting estrus.  相似文献

There is still a lack of information on estrus synchronization in goats. Understanding the estrus synchronization protocols and the subsequent effects is important to improve the efficiency of assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) and subsequently would improve the breeding procedures. This study will help in determining the most suitable estrus synchronization protocol and understand better the effect on the sexual behaviour and hormonal effects in goats. A total of 127 Boer does were used and divided into three groups with different duration of CIDR insertion intravaginally either for 14 (two groups) or 9 days (one group). Approximately 0.5 ml Estrumate® (PG) was administered intramuscularly to all groups at CIDR removal, and only groups PMSG14 and PMSG9 were administered with 200IU of Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG) intramuscularly. Estrus signs were observed at 4 h intervals and blood samples were collected for progesterone and luteinizing hormone determination. The percentage of does in estrus within 24 to 72 h post CIDR removal was significantly higher (P<0.05) in groups with PMSG compared to the group without the PMSG. The numbers of does display estrus signs within 24 to 28 h post CIDR removal were significantly higher (P<0.05) in group shorter period (9 days) compared to groups with 14 days CIDR. The P4 concentrations at 24 hours post CIDR removals and LH concentration was not significantly different (P>0.05) in all groups. The time of the LH peak in the group without the PMSG was significantly delayed (P<0.05) when compared to group 9 days CIDR and administered with PMSG. It is recommended to use the treatment for 9 days CIDR since the estrous cycle can be shortened.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to test if female rodents in border habitats of organic farms have higher reproductive activity than those of conventional farms in south-east Córdoba province, Argentina. The study was conducted in field borders of organic and conventional farms in 2012 and 2013 during the summer months, the time of the year when reproductive activity is more likely. We sampled field borders through a CMR trapping session and recorded vegetation cover, plant litter, vegetation volume, bare ground cover and land use of the field on both sides of the border (crop/crop or crop/pasture). We recorded the number of reproductive females and the rate of postpartum estrus. Green vegetation cover was higher in organic borders whereas plant litter was higher in borders of conventional farms. We used Generalized Linear Mixed Models (GLMM) to determine the factors that influence the number of reproductive females in borders of organic and conventional farms. The number of reproductive females was mainly determined by agriculture management and field type. There were more reproductive females in organic than in conventional borders, and borders associated with crop fields at both sides supported the highest number of reproductive females. The rate of postpartum estrus was higher in organic than in conventional borders. Our results showed that in border habitats of farms under organic management reproductive activity of female rodents was higher than in borders of conventional farms. Organic farm borders may provide high quality habitats that provide resources for reproduction and persistence of rodent populations.  相似文献

Poor detection of estrus, still a major problem in the dairy industry, has prompted the development of electronic estrous detection technologies. One of the features of estrous behavior is a marked increase in walking activity. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate the effects of various management factors on walking activity increase at estrus, and the relationship between this trait and fertility. Data from 5883 artificial inseminations (AI) conducted in two high-producing dairy herds were analyzed. Detection of estrus was performed using a pedometer system. Of the total AI investigated, 2072 (35.2%) resulted in pregnancy. The following data were recorded for each animal at AI: herd, lactation number, milk production (average for the 3 days prior to AI), lactation stage (early, mid, and late lactation), previous estrous synchronization (cloprostenol or progesterone releasing intravaginal device [PRID] for animals showing estrus within 7 days of treatment), season (warm versus cool period), insemination number following parturition, inseminating bull, inseminator, and pedometer measurements. Variables were screened for associations with walking activity by analysis of variance (ANOVA) through generalized linear model procedures (PROC GLM). Increased parity and milk production, and insemination during the warm period were associated with lower pedometer measurements. No significant effects of the herd, estrous synchronization, and lactation stage were observed. The link between walking activity and fertility was determined by applying logistic regression models. We detected no significant effects of herd, milk production, estrous synchronization, lactation stage, and inseminator on pregnancy rate. A higher lactation and insemination number, and insemination during the warm period were negatively correlated with the pregnancy rate. The likelihood of pregnancy was greater when semen from one of the bulls was used and when physical activity at estrus was increased. Our findings indicate that cow and management factors contribute intensely to walking activity at estrus, and also reveal a close link between increased walking activity and fertility.  相似文献

Using two PGF treatments 14 days apart as a way to enhance estrus detection rate following the 2nd treatment is a reproductive management tool that continues to be used on large dairy farms. In one study, in cows with a functional CL and a dominant follicle, treatment with cloprostenol vs. dinoprost resulted in greater peripheral estradiol concentrations. The objective of the present study was to determine if cloprostenol could enhance pregnancy rates of cows in a large dairy herd using a PGF program for 1st artificial insemination (AI). Lactating dairy cows (n = 4549) were randomly assigned to receive two treatments of either 500 μg cloprostenol or 25 mg dinoprost 14 days apart, with the 2nd treatment on the 1st day of the voluntary waiting period (57 DIM). Cows detected in estrus within 5 days after the 2nd treatment were inseminated. There was no effect of treatment on day of estrus detection, with 78% of cows inseminated on Days 3 or 4 following treatment. Cloprostenol increased (P < 0.01) estrus detection rates in 1st parity cows compared to dinoprost, 42.4 vs. 34.0%. In cows inseminated on Days 3 or 4 after treatment, cloprostenol increased (P = 0.05) conception rates compared to dinoprost, 38.3 vs. 34.4%. When treatments and parities were combined, conception rates increased (P < 0.02) with interval after treatment (27.0, 36.4, and 44.5% for Days 1 or 2, Days 3 or 4, and Day 5, respectively). Cloprostenol increased (P = 0.02) overall pregnancy rate compared to dinoprost, 14.4 vs. 12.2%. In summary, cloprostenol increased fertility in 1st parity cows inseminated on Days 3 or 4 following treatment and subsequently enhanced pregnancy rates of 1st parity lactating dairy cows compared to dinoprost. Fertility appeared greater in cows expected to have had a young antral ovarian follicle at treatment.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the efficacy of a vaginal mucus impedance meter for the detection of estrus in the dairy cow. In Experiment 1 the positioning of the probe within the vaginal tract was examined in dairy cows (n=6) by measuring mucus impedance at 5-cm intervals during probe withdrawal and comparing these fixed distance measurements with the depth within the vaginal tract at which the lowest impedance measurement was recorded. Measurements at 15 and 20 cm from the vulva were significantly lower than at other fixed depths, but did not show a reduction during estrus. The lowest recording upon withdrawal of the probe, which usually occurred between 15 and 20 cm from the vulva, was significantly lower than at any fixed depth recordings and was reduced proportionate during estrus to 0.14 of its non-estrus value. In Experiment 2 the accuracy of the probe to confirm estrus in cows exhibiting possible estrus signs was examined. Dairy cows (n=191) were inseminated either on the basis of herdsman observation of behavior alone (Treatment A) or on the basis of herdsman observation with cows exhibiting signs of estrous behaviour, but not standing to be mounted, being tested for vaginal mucus impedance (Treatment B). There were no significant treatment differences in the estrus detection rate, conception rate or other reproductive performance parameters. However, in 12% of cows in Treatment B, measurement of vaginal mucus impedance detected an extra estrous event, giving a theoretical increase in the estrus detection rate from 0.67 to 0.74 detected/predicted estrous events. It was concluded that when using a vaginal probe the lowest value in the vaginal tract should be sought, but that using the probe as an adjunct to herdsman's observation would not greatly increase estrus detection rate.  相似文献

Nonlactating female giant pandas experience a single estrus during the spring mating season. Although both hormonal and behavioral aspects of estrus have been reported on captive females, little is known about the relationship between them. Data were collected on a single captive female during three successive seasons, revealing a high degree of regularity in both estrogen profiles and the temporal pattern of associated behaviors. The birth of a live cub in the last of the three seasons, using artificial insemination, confirmed the time of ovulation as occurring shortly after a peak in urinary estrogen values. In this study, we examined the occurrence of female scent marking, rear presentations, chirp and bleat vocalizations, and the tail‐up display, and plotted their occurrence relative to the underlying estrogen values. We conclude that the role of estrogen in the expression of these behaviors is neither simple nor directly causal. Temporal associations indicate that a triggering rather than a maintenance function for estrogen is implicated. This analysis provides a clear identification of estrous behaviors, but in both the time and form of occurrence these behaviors most likely vary between females and seasons. The purpose of this study was to describe biological outcomes of two reproductive management strategies in commercial dairy cows: estrus detection with and without the use of prostaglandin-F2alpha. At regular preinsemination examinations, cows were allocated randomly to two cohorts: 1) prostaglandin cohort -- cows with palpable corpora lutea were injected with 25 mg dinoprost tromethamine and were bred by appointment 72 and 96 hours later, followed one week later by standard estrus detection practices (twice daily observation and tail chalking, with breeding approximately 12 to 24 hours later); and 2) estrus detection cohort -- cows identified as exhibiting estrus (observed estrus) were bred through the above standard procedures, without exposure to prostaglandin therapy. Age, milk production, weight, milk progesterone levels and reproductive data were collected for all cows. Although certain between-cohort effects were statistically significant, no differences could be found between the cohorts regarding standard measures of reproductive performance (average days in milk at conception (P=0.79), services per conception (P=0.48), proportion of animals failing to conceive to artificial insemination (P=0.53), and survival analysis on time to conception (P=0.30). With evidence for biological equivalence between the two reproductive strategies, nonbiological standards such as economics or ease of execution would be appropriate in choosing between the two strategies.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to compare three systems for estrus detection and combinations of these systems on a large commercial dairy (1075 lactating cows) during stress of summer heat. At 37-45 days in milk (DIM), 255 cows were fitted with a HeatWatch device (HW; DDx Inc., Denver, CO), an activity sensor ALPRO (ALPRO; DeLaval Inc., Kansas City, MO), and visually observed (VO) three times daily. Pregnancy status was determined by uterine palpation per rectum 35-49 days following artificial insemination (AI). Effects of DIM, parity, standing events, inseminator, and interval between onset of estrus and AI on conception rates were determined using logistic regression. Efficiencies for detection of estrus, determined by comparing detected periods of estrus with a theoretical total of 570 periods, were 49.3% (VO), 37.2% (ALPRO), 48.0% (HW), and 80.2% for all three systems simultaneously. Conception rates (LSM+/-S.E.) for cows detected by one or more of the three systems were 6.2+/-3.9 for VO, 19.8+/-5.6 for ALPRO, 17.3+/-5.0 for HW, 22.8+/-7.0 for VO+ALPRO, 26.9+/-4.6 for VO+HW, 23.2+/-5.2 for ALPRO+HW, and 18.4+/-4.7 for VO+ALPRO+HW. Inseminations performed during no and mild heat stress (temperature-humidity index; THI< or =76) had greater conception rate (P<0.05; 38.8%) compared to AI performed during moderated heat stress conditions (THI>76; 17.6%). Number of mounts were higher for primiparous versus multiparous cows (P<0.05). Cows over 80 DIM during estrus exhibited fewer (P<0.05) standing events. The highest conception rate occurred with the combination of VO+HW, which confirms the premise that combination of multiple systems enhances both the efficiency and accuracy of estrus detection.  相似文献

Historically, the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) has been known for its poor reproductive performance in captivity. Although breeding success has improved over the past decade, the percentage of breeders in the captive population is still low and successful propagation unpredictable. Estrus in this species has been reported as “silent” by some, therefore contributing to breeding problems by making appropriate timing of pair introductions difficult. To investigate whether any observable behavioral changes may be associated with estrus, we carried out quantitative behavioral observations and concomitant noninvasive monitoring of estradiol metabolites excreted in feces of 14 captive female cheetahs for periods of 5–22 consecutive weeks. We found that changes in fecal estradiol concentrations correlated significantly with variation in the occurrence of several types of behaviors, including rolling, rubbing, sniffing, vocalizing, and urine spraying. However, the number and types of correlated behaviors varied across females, revealing no single behavior indicative of estrus, but rather a constellation of behaviors that increased in frequency when estradiol concentrations were elevated. There was no significant difference in the overall average estradiol concentrations or peak values of the females that had previously mated and conceived compared to those of the females that had failed to breed. Successful breeders appeared to show significantly higher rates of rubbing and rolling than nonbreeders. However, rates of rubbing, rolling, and urine spraying also were found to increase with age, and older individuals were more likely to have bred. The results of this study indicate that estrus in the cheetah cannot be regarded as “silent” since the frequencies of some behaviors appear to covary with fluctuating estradiol levels. However, behavioral monitoring of estrus may nevertheless be difficult and time-consuming due to individual variation and subtle changes in behavioral frequencies rather than changes in the types of behaviors displayed. This study compared three methods of estrus detection and characteristics of standing estrus between dairy cows kept in cubicle housing and fed a total mixed ration diet (HOUSED treatment) and those kept at pasture with concentrate ration supplementation (PASTURE treatment). The 23 spring-calved Holstein-Friesians in each treatment were monitored by three estrus detection methods simultaneously—visual observations, tail paint and radiotelemetry (HeatWatch)—for 9 wk. Milk progesterone profiles were used to determine the dates of true standing estrus events. All three detection methods had a higher efficiency of estrus detection in the PASTURE treatment than in the HOUSED treatment (P < 0.001), but there was no difference in the accuracy of estrus detection between the two treatments (P > 0.05). Within each treatment there was no difference between the efficiency and accuracy of the three methods (P > 0.05). HeatWatch was as efficient as visual observations at detecting standing estrus events. However, during visual observation sessions all occasions when animals were observed standing to be mounted were not recorded by HeatWatch. More cows expressed sub-estrus events and fewer expressed standing estrus events in the HOUSED than in the PASTURE treatment (P < 0.05). The interval between parturition and the second standing estrus was longer in the HOUSED treatment than in the PASTURE treatment (P < 0.05). All three detection methods were much less effective in the HOUSED than in the PASTURE treatment. This is because all of the detection methods tested relied solely on standing to be mounted and this was reduced in the HOUSED cows. Alternative approaches to estrus detection are needed for cows kept indoors on concrete.  相似文献

Reproductive performance in cows following synchronization of estrus with intravaginal progesterone releasing devices (IVD) has varied with the length of treatment, cyclic status and prolonged return to estrus intervals in some cows following first AI. The objective of this study was to compare two methods of synchronizing and resynchronizing estrus on the reproductive performance of lactating dairy cows. Cows were treated with an IVD (Day 0) for 7 days (n = 350) or 8 days (n = 350), cloprostenol (0.5 mg i.m.) at the time of device removal and estradiol benzoate (EB) at the time of device insertion (1.5mg i.m.), and again 9 days later (1.0 mg i.m.). Cows were also resynchronized starting on Days 23 and 46 by reinsertion of IVDs for either 7 or 8 days and treatment with EB (1mg i.m.) at the time of device insertion and again 9 days later. Cows were inseminated on detection of estrus for 4 days after removal of devices at each of the synchronized estrous cycles. No significant differences in reproductive performance were detected between each treatment throughout the study period. Synchrony of estrus was more precise at the first and second estrus after treatment with an IVD for 8 days compared to 7 days. Cows classified as anestrous had lower reproductive performance than cows classified as cycling and had longer intervals to estrus at the second (P < 0.001) and third estrus (P < 0.06), but not at the first estrus (P = 0.09). Mean time to onset of estrus after IVD removal was less in cows treated with an IVD for 8 days compared to 7 days at each synchronized estrus (P < 0.01). More Holstein-Friesian cows were classified as non-pregnant and not detected in estrus than crossbreed cows (15.7%, 54/343 versus 9.0%, 24/266; [P < 0.05). The results of the study suggested that the main effects of the treatments that were used to synchronize and resynchronize estrus were to alter the timing and synchrony of estrus without affecting fertility.  相似文献

This study investigated behavioral signals of estrus by systematically monitoring the interactions of one male with four female African elephants housed in a naturalistic outdoor enclosure at Disney's Animal Kingdom over a period of 11 months. We measured changes in five spatial behaviors and 22 tactile‐contact behaviors, as well as changes in serum progestagen and LH concentrations, across three ovarian cycles for each female. Two females did not cycle during the study. Three different phases of the ovarian cycle were identified: mid luteal, anovulatory follicular, ovulatory follicular. The male followed more and carried out more genital inspections, flehmen, and trunk‐to‐mouth behaviors toward cycling females during their ovulatory phase. Genital inspections by the male peaked above baseline levels on the day of an LH surge, and up to 9 days before, in both cycling females and, thus, might be a useful behavioral index of estrus. The male also carried out more genital inspections, flehmen, and trunk touches to the back leg toward ovulatory cycling than noncycling females. Overall, our results indicated that: 1) a single subadult African elephant male could discriminate two females in the ovulatory phase of their cycle (i.e., during the 3 weeks preceding ovulation) from the mid luteal phase; 2) the male also discriminated two cycling females in the ovulatory and anovulatory follicular phases from two noncycling females; 3) two females in the ovulatory phase of the cycle displayed a greater variety of tactile‐contact behavior toward the male compared to the other cycle phases. Artificial insemination protocols depend on efficient behavioral estrus detection and insemination time in Angora goat. Therefore, we aim to determine the accuracy of an estrus scoring system in Angora goats with different PMSG doses during the breeding season. Does (n: 260) were randomly divided into three groups: group-1 (n: 93), group-2 (n: 85) and group-3 (n: 82). All animals received an intravaginal sponge on day 0 for 11 days, and on the day of sponge insertion 150 μg prostaglandin F2Α was administered. Pregnant mare’s serum gonadotropin was injected 300, 400 and 500 IU intramuscularly 24 h before sponge removal to groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Estrus signs were detected with a teaser buck, 24 h after sponge removal according to a visual scoring system. Artificial insemination was performed with 0.25 ml fresh diluted semen at 43 to 45 h after sponge removal. Differences were observed within PMSG groups in terms of standing, tail wagging, courtship behavior, vaginal discharge and vaginal hyperemia (P<0.001). Nevertheless, the most accurate indicators of estrus that result in pregnancy were tail wagging and courtship behavior followed by standing estrus (P<0.05). According to the results obtained, 300 IU PMSG dose is sufficient, both to inseminate at a fixed time (43 to 45 h after sponge removal) and to record the estrus behavior by teaser male 24 h after sponge removal. Higher PMSG doses (400 to 500 IU) altered the timing of ovulation; specifically, 500 IU dose shortened the duration of estrus behaviors. In conclusion, even though the different doses of PMSG displayed similar effects on estrus synchronization and pregnancy rates, we concluded that tail wagging, courtship behavior and standing heat are the most reliable estrus signs for artificial insemination in Angora goat.  相似文献

For several years progesterone in milk or blood has been recognized as an indicator of different cow states related to reproduction. For this study, an existing simulation model was modified in order to analyze the technical and economic effects of including information on progesterone status in an automatic inline monitoring system. Implementation of an inline progesterone indicator was assumed to directly affect the estrus detection rate, the period until treatment for post-partum anestrus and the number of mistimed AIs. Different implementations of an inline progesterone indicator were simulated in a typical Danish dairy herd with 120 cows and in other herd situations represented by: a herd with poor reproduction efficiency, a herd with a high estrus detection rate and a herd using a 9 week postponed AI period for primiparous cows. It was concluded that implementation of an inline progesterone indicator in a dairy herd previously using visual estrus detection has a break-even price of 3-81 euros per cow-year depending on differences in implementation type and herd reproduction management. The highest break-even price was found using the assumptions that simulated a herd with initially poor reproductive efficiency. With the assumptions that simulated a typical Danish herd the break-even price was 46 euros per cow-year. Attributable effects of using the indicator, including effects of labor time, are discussed.  相似文献
