Summary

It is related on some phytocenoses of the southerly Florence hills, lying on the boundary of the two basal biochores of peninsular vegetation. Although the proximity and the chorographical analogy at the south-westerly ones and at Ceceri Mount, which are included yet in the » Quercetum Ilicis « ambit, these hills are whereas sensible displaced in the » Quercetum pubescentis «. They have microtherme elements of higher planes, but they have in yet the marks of littoral biochore, for instance Smilax aspera, abundantly penetrating in hedges and in a pine-grove but non in coppices of Quercus Cerris.  相似文献

Sequences from the ribosomal nuclear internal transcribed spacers (ITS) have been widely used to infer evolutionary hypotheses across a broad range of living organisms. Intraspecific sequence variation is assumed to be absent or negliable in most species, but few detailed studies have been conducted to assess the apportionment of ITS sequence variation within and between plant populations. Buxus balearica was chosen as a model species to assess the levels of infraspecific and intragenomic ITS variation in rare and endangered species occurring in disjunct populations around the Mediterranean basin. Intragenomic polymorphic sites were detected for western and eastern accessions of B. balearica and in two accessions of the sister species B. sempervirens. Overall, 19 different ribotypes were found in B. balearica after sequencing 48 clones, whereas 15 ribotypes were detected in 19 clones of B. sempervirens. The integrity and secondary structure stability of the ribosomal sequences suggest that they are not pseudogenes. The high number of ribotypes recovered through cloning suggested that some sequences could be chimeric or generated in vivo by partial homogenization through gene conversion or unequal crossing-over. Average sequence divergence among B. balearica clones was 0.768%, and the most divergent sequences differed by 1.62%. Available evidence does not suggest that B. balearica paralogues have been obtained from other extant Buxus species through interspecific hybridization. The presence of several ribosomal sequences in box implies that the molecular forces driving the concerted evolution of this multigene family are not fully operational in this genus. Phylogenetic analyses of cloned ITS sequences from B. balearica displayed very poor resolution and only two clades received moderate bootstrap support. Despite the marked intragenomic sequence divergence found, ribosomal data suggest a clear phylogeographic split in B. balearica between western and eastern accessions. The distinct, nonchimeric sequences that are postulated as being present in each biogeographic group suggest that box populations from Anatolia (eastern Mediterranean) are relict. Summary

Purpose of this paper is to point out the residues of Quercus Ilex woods in the hilly region of Murgia di Putignano (Puglia) which lies inside the distribution area of Q. trojana, now the main wood-forming tree-species of this territory.

Fourteen different small Q. Ilex stands are mentioned, as marked on alleged map. One of them (n° 1 on the map) has been more carefully studied through a whole year, and all plants growing in it have been collected.  相似文献

Abstract

A phytosociological study of the Quercus ilex woods in the surroundings of Siena (Italy). – Numerous stands of Quercus ilex woods around Siena have been studied phytosociologically and compared to the better known similar forests of Southern France. As a rule the Siennese Quercus ilex woods (Table 1) can not be considered to belong to the association Quercetum mediterraneo-montanum Br.-Bl. 1936 because of the absence of various significant central European and montane species, nor to Quercetum galloprovinciale because of the presence of too great a number of Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae and Querco-Fagetea species. Only rarely communities similar to the first mentioned association have been found: i.e. on Mount Cetona at 1.800 feet and in two particularly cool and humid localities at a lower height (Table 2). Taking into account the way these woods have been managed for centuries it can be concluded that they are mixed formations of Quercetum galloprovinciale and an oakwood association belonging to the order Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae; the exploitation techniques have caused the evergreen oak to become dominant therefore creating conditions favourable to the more thermophilous and shade loving plants characterics of Q. ilex woods and at the same time bringing about a sharp decrease in the number of the light demanding species typical of deciduous oakwoods.  相似文献

Whether a species is native or introduced in a given geographic area is of major interest within the framewok of biological conservation. A practical approach combining phytosociological, ecological, phytogeographical and historical data is proposed to explore this status for rare plant species, and applied to Boxtree in northern France. Buxus sempervirens L. is an evergreen sub-mediterranean species whose wild populations in northern France are very rare and threatened. Its status – native or introduced – has long been be controversial. Three types of Box-woodland were found in the study area: 1) a Taxus baccata – Buxus sempervirens community which is strongly linked to post-Renaissance castles, 2) a Fraxinus excelsiorMercurialis perennis community which may be related both to steep chalk slopes where Box was expected to be native and to Medieval castles, 3) a Quercus pubescensBuxus sempervirens community which may be considered as an immature anthropogenic woodland. In all cases Buxus sempervirens was observed close to archaeological sites and together with exotic and/or nitrophilous plant species. Consequently Box is probably originally an introduced species in northern France and should be considered as both an archaeophyte and a feudal plant. This method offers an interesting alternative to determine the indigenity status of a rare plant species in its localities that would provide sufficiently accurate criteria in most of the cases.  相似文献

Most studies on the importance of the neighbourhood on a plant's risk ofherbivory have focused on palatable plants and how they are protected byunpalatable neighbours. This study examined the grazing intensity of arelatively unpalatable shrub, Buxus sempervirens, indifferent neighbours. Exactly 2683 plants of Buxussempervirens (including 172 controls) were sampled in 12 enclosedpastures belonging to 4 sheep farms. The enclosures were grazed at 3 differentseasons (spring, summer and autumn). Plants were divided in 4 age/hight classes(first year, < 4 cm, 4–10 cm, 10–40cm) and into 8 neighbourhoods. The first of these wascharacterisedby the absence of any plants within a radius of 5 cm around theBuxus individual and the 7 others by the identity of thedominant species in contact with the Buxus plant. Theintensity of grazing on the neighbouring plants were also recorded. At the endof one year's monitoring, 26.2% of Buxus sempervirensplants had been grazed. The proportion of plants grazed was significantlyhigherin spring than in the other two seasons. It decreased with increasing plantage.It was higher in neighbourhoods that were intensively grazed than in those withlight grazing. The proportion grazed in the absence of a neighbour plant wasintermediate between the previous two. The probability of a plant of aninvadingspecies being grazed is influenced by factors other than its life-historytraits. Some neighbourhoods consisting of unpalatable plants facilitate theestablishment of Buxus sempervirens by protecting theyoungplants from grazing, whereas other highly palatable neighbourhoods are readilygrazed by sheep, thus indirectly increasing the proportion of Buxussempervirens that are grazed. The young and short (< 4cm in height) Buxus plants, which are lessrecognisable by sheep, are most sensitive to the impact of grazing.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A phytosociological study of the urban woods of Rome is described. Six syntaxonomical types were identified: 1) Orno-Quercetum ilicis, an edaphic-xerophytic variant of the natural potential vegetation of the city (deciduous Quercus sp. pl. woods); 2) Aquifolio-Fagetum carpinetosum betuli, in the northern slopes of alluvial valleys; 3) Q. suber and Q. pubescens wood, ranked in Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae order 4) Quercetum ilicis galloprovinciale suberetosum; 5) coppice of Q. cerris and Q. frainetto, which belongs to the Teucrio siculi-Quercion cerridis alliance; 6) mixed mesophile wood of Q. cerris and Ostrya carpinifolia which can be considered a transition between the Doronico-Fagion and the Teucrio siculi-Quercion cerridis alliances. All of these six woody vegetation types are characterised by the large penetration of Mediterranean species belonging to the Quercetea and Quercetalia ilicis and the middle-European ones of the Querco-Fagetea. This mosaic of species exemplifies the bioclimatic characteristics of Rome, which is situated in a Mediterranean transitional region.  相似文献

Abstract

Thermophilous deciduous forest is widespread in northern mainland Greece and extends in patches further south to Peloponnisos and the bigger islands. In this paper, we provide a phytosociological survey of the plant communities of deciduous oak and mixed forest throughout Greece, based on about 370 relevés from the literature and more than 300 personal unpublished ones. Assocation names of the thermophilous deciduous forest are re-evaluated, and syntaxonomic conclusions added. The relevés are classified, and 13 associations and several additional subtypes described and presented in synoptic constancy tables. The following associations were recognized, and characterized by species composition, ecology and distribution: 1. Phillyreo–Carpinetum orientalis, 2. Dryopterido pallidae–Ostryetum carpinifoliae, 3. Tilio tomentosae–Castanetum; 4. Genisto carinalis–Quercetum petraeae, 5. Querco frainetto–Castanetum, 6. Cytiso villosi–Castanetum; 7. Lathyro laxiflori–Castanetum; 8. Symphyto ottomani–Quercetum frainetto, 9. Verbasco glabrati–Quercetum frainetto; 10. Huetio cynapioidis–Quercetum frainetto; 11. Digitali viridiflorae–Quercetum frainetto; 12. Geranio asphodeloidis–Quercetum frainetto; 13. Oenantho pimpinelloidis–Quercetum frainetto. Associations 12 are assigned to the alliance Fraxino orni–Ostryion, 46 and 813 to the Quercion frainetto (both Quercetalia pubescentis), 3 interim to the Tilio–Acerion, and 7 to the Quercetalia ilicis. The two Quercetalia pubescentis alliances co-occur in northern Greece; their habitats differ chiefly in terms of soil conditions, bedrock and topography, rather than in overall climatic character.  相似文献

In this paper a conservation biogeography approach has been applied to predict distribution and conservation priorities in West Mediterranean Zygaena moths. The presence/absence matrix data for mainland region and for the three largest islands (Sardinia, Corsica and Sicily) has been analyzed. The analyses have been performed on individual species and revealed that species distribution in the Mediterranean mainland can be largely predicted. However, Sardinia and Corsica islands showed highly impoverished faunas while Sicily did not revealed a lower richness than predicted. Logistic regressions at individual species level showed that several taxa, predicted to be present in Sardinia and Corsica are actually absent. For Sicily the opposite trend was obtained and several unpredicted species actually occur on this island. Conversely to butterflies, ecological traits did not differ between predicted and unpredicted Sicilian species, suggesting that ancient and stochastic colonisations are responsible for the occurrence of several species. Due to the very low probabilities that relict populations could re-colonize islands following possible extinctions, they are suggested to deserve particular conservation efforts. In particular, Z. orana from Sardinia, Z. corsica from Corsica and Z. trifolii, Z. purpuralis and Z. carniolica from Sicily showed distinctive biogeographic patterns and/or particular rarity.  相似文献

Question: Which is the best model to predict the habitat distribution of Buxus balearica Lam. in southern Spain? Location: Málaga and Granada, Spain, across an area of 38 180 km2. Methods: Prediction models based on 17 environmental variables were tested. Six methods were compared: multivariate adaptive regression spline (MARS), maximum entropy approach to modelling species' distributions (Maxent), two generic algorithms based on environmental metrics dissimilarity (BIOCLIM and DOMAIN), Genetic Algorithm for Rule‐set Prediction (GARP), and supervised learning methods based on generalized linear classifiers (support vector machines, SVMs). To test the predictive power of the models we used the Kappa index. Results: Maxent most accurately predicted the habitat distribution of B. balearica, followed by MARS models. The other models tested yielded lower accuracy values. A comparison of the predictive power of the models revealed that climate variables made the highest contributions among the environmental variables studied. The variables that made the lowest contributions were the insolation models. To examine the sensitivity of the models to a reduction in the number of variables, a test showed that accuracy of over 0.90 was maintained by applying just three climatic variables (spring rainfall, mean temperature of the warmest month, and mean temperature of the coldest month). Maps derived from the algorithms of all models tested coincided well with the known distribution of the species. Conclusions: Model habitat prediction is a preliminary step towards highlighting areas of high habitat suitability of B. balearica. These data support the results of previous research, which show that MaxEnt is the best technique for modelling species distributions with small sample sizes.  相似文献

Naufraga balearica constitutes a monospecific genus of Majorca (Balearic Islands) and is Critically Endangered according to International Union for Conservation of Nature categories. The species has a narrow distributional area, with one subpopulation at Coves Blanques (CB) and a small set of subpopulations on the Formentor Peninsula. A previous work has shown that the subpopulation in Cap de Catalunya (CC) (located on the Formentor Peninsula) has undergone a distinct decline over the last decade. Herein, we report a comparative study of the population dynamics of N. balearica at the CB and CC sites. By monitoring permanent plots for 6 years (2004–2009), we analyzed the frequency of cells in which the species was present, and, for each annual transition (from November, year t to November, year t + 1), we determined the frequency of cells in which the species was stable, decreased or increased for each species and site using a G‐test of independence. The same parameters were also analyzed for N. balearica at the quarterly transitions of November–February, February–May, May–August and August–November. The results indicated that the decline of the threatened species was more marked in the CB subpopulation. N. balearica showed a seasonal trend at both sites, with some exceptions. The most common neighboring species were Dactylis glomerata and Erodium reichardii, and they negatively affected N. balearica; however, the neighboring species effect was not homogeneous among the annual transitions analyzed, indicating that other factors are involved. Isoprenoid (isoprene and monoterpenes) emission is widespread among oak species. A number of studies investigating the emission by oak species around the world are here compiled. These studies indicate that isoprenoids are reliable taxonomical markers at subgenera level. Isoprene-emitters belong to the subgenera Lobateae, Quercus sensu strictu, and Protobalanus and are therefore found in every continent of the northern hemisphere. Non-emitters and monoterpene-emitters belong to Cerris and Ilex (= Schlerophyllodris) subgenus, respectively, and are particularly, if not solely, diffused in the Mediterranean area. The results suggest that the taxonomical assignment of some species should be reviewed. Experimental data indicate that isoprenoids have a protective role against environmental stresses and a strong antioxidant action. On the basis of the present knowledge I speculate that in oaks the ancestral trait is the emission of isoprene, and that the other traits evolved as adaptive response to the environment.  相似文献

The forests in the Spa?va Basin are a complex of lowland forests in the region of Slavonia (eastern Croatia). The present state of the forests is strongly influenced by intensive exploitation and hydro-ameliorative activities carried out in the past. The aim of this study was to consider the extent of changes in species composition, and the extent of environmental changes in forest communities of the Spa?va Basin in relation to research conducted between 1969 and 1971. The species composition of four communities (Carpino betuli-Quercetum roboris, Genisto elatae-Quercetum roboris aceretosum tatarici, and caricetosum remotae, and Leucojo-Fraxinetum angustifoliae) is studied by comparing 41 old and 57 new relevés. Changes were estimated using ordinations (RDA, CCA, DCA) and changes in species frequency and cover. A general trend of moisture reduction was noticeable among all communities. All vegetation types are becoming floristically more similar. An increase in frequency and cover of flood intolerant woody species (such as Carpinus betulus, Cornus sanguinea, Tilia tomentosa, and Acer tataricum) as well as a decrease of vernal species related to wet habitats are particularly evident. The succession of all studied communities is resulting in loss of the mosaic community pattern characteristic of lowland alluvial forests.  相似文献

Carotenoids from the leaves of the common box,Buxus sempervirens (Buxaceae), which turn red in late autumn to winter, were analyzed by reversed-phase HPLC. A novel carotenoid, monoanhydroeschscholtzxanthin (3), was isolated from the red-colored leaves. UV-VIS, MS,1H-NMR and CD spectral data showed that the structure of 3 was (3S)-2′, 3′, 4′, 5′-tetradehydro-4, 5′-retro-β, β-caroten-3-ol. As well as anhydroeschscholtzxanthin (2), the major red carotenoid in the leaves, eschscholtzxanthin (4) was identified. Very small amounts of yellow carotenoids (neoxanthin, violaxanthin, lutein and β-carotene), which are major components of green leaves, were present in the red-colored leaves. The amounts of chlorophylla andb in the leaves decreased markedly during coloration, even at the early stages, whereas those of the yellow carotenoids decreased gradually. In contrast, the content of 2, a red carotenoid, increased steadily during coloration. The biosynthetic pathway of 2 inB. sempervirens was deduced tentatively on the basis of the individual carotenoid contents during autumnal coloration.  相似文献

Abstract

Taxodioxylon gypsaceum (Göppert) Kräusel, wood fossil discovered in the central italian miocene.—A sample of silicified wood fossil has been discovered in the miocenic formations of the Castellaro mountain in the neighbourhood of Pesaro a city in Central Italy. An anatomical study has made it possible to accept that the species is Taxodioxylon gypsaceum, which resembles the actual Sequoia sempervirens for its woody structure, conservative endemism of a coastal region in California. The fossil species that is known for its numerous tertiary deposits in the Northern, Central and Eastern Europe, is now indicated for the first time in Italy; the mount Castellaro station results to be the more south among those in Europe.

Various paleobotanical data concerning traces of leaves, fruits and seeds gathered in localities near to the deposit and in the region complies with the discovery of Taxodioxylon gypsaceum because of the presence of varions species of Sequoia and Taxodium and in particular of the Sequoia langsdorfii leaves which is considered as the ancient form of the Sequoia sempervirens.  相似文献

Summary

One of the most characteristic species of the present Mediterranean vegetation, the holm-oak, still presents in the Appennines, after the alternate glacial periods, relict stations, separated and disjointed, strictly bound to the rocky places.

The Author takes the examination of the altimetrical limits of the holm-oak in Garfagnana (Tuscany), in the valleys of Turrite Secca and Fegana, as a starting point to take into consideration the value and the floristic-oecological aspects of these rocky relicts.

After a climatic and geomorphologic classification of the examined places, the distribution of the holm-oak in the aforesaid valleys is minutely described.

The historical examination shows a derivation of the present plant-communities, rocky and relict, from the dispersion of a presumable anathermic mountain forest, referable to the period of the Quercetum mixtum, rather than to the ancient tertiary, thermophilous and orophilous, Mediterranean forest.

The permanence of the holm-oak in the submontane and mountain stations is strictly bound to their peculiar oecology and its specific temperament. The rocky stations, at least those examined in Garfagnana, are remarkably arid and thermically continental, especially those exposed to the south and south-west. Their aridity, however, helps to lessen the dangers of the frost. The holm-oak can live there in virtue of its tolerance and biological plasticity. To the south it reaches the most elevated heights owing to the protection from cold winds and owing to its greater thermic availability.

A peculiar attention is given to the dynamics, in time and space, of the floral-physiognomical groups: dynamics which has its impulse in the unceasing instability of the rocky micro-places.

Some botanic observation, made in different floral districts, in different conditions of positions, altitude and nature of the substratum, aim at representing the floral aspects of the examined Quercus Ilex-stations.

The flora is constituted with entities fit (preadapted) for the rocky places and with species supplied with remarkable qualities of adaptation. Through the comparisons of the biological spectra, it appears the great fitness of the Chamephytes to the harsh rocky places.

Among the few Mediterranean species able to follow the holm-oak in the rocky localization it is worth mentioning, above all, the Juniperus phoenicea L., species typically of the littoral, never noticed in Tuscany at such elevated heights as those which have been noticed, as it appears in this work, in the Apuane Alps (till 1200 metres).  相似文献

An approach integrating phytosociological and stand structure surveys with the predictive modelling of species distribution was applied to analyse the spatial distribution and dynamics of the Apennine beech forests with Taxus and Ilex, a high conservation priority forest habitat in Europe. The homogeneity of the habitat was tested trough a Mann–Whitney test between beech woods with Taxus and those with Ilex with respect to climatic, topographic, structural and environmental parameters: the former have proven to be more microthermic, mesophilous and characterised by a closer canopy. Five statistical models were compared to analyse the relationship between bioclimatic parameters and Taxus and Ilex spatial distribution: Regression Tree Analysis, the most efficient model, has shown that the distribution of Taxus is influenced by precipitation variables, while Ilex is mainly influenced by temperature variables. This model highlighted that Ilex has a potential area that surrounds, at lower altitudes, that of Taxus. A stepwise multiple regression analysis has been applied to identify the factors influencing the regeneration of the two species: beside climatic parameters, Taxus regeneration is negatively influenced by soil nitrate concentration (an indicator of livestock disturbance) while Ilex is negatively influenced by beech forest cover. Traditional management practices seem to have an effect on the regeneration of the two species: frequent cuts favour the regeneration of Ilex, reducing the forest cover and allowing more light penetration, while Taxus, less resistant to grazing livestock, is confined to more inaccessible places. The multiple approach has proven to be useful for the elaboration of two differentiated conservation strategies for the two beech forest types.  相似文献

Abstract. The shrub Buxus sempervirens and the trees Abies alba and Fagus sylvatica have recently recolonized old‐pastures in the Central Pyrenees. We mapped all live and dead individuals (> 1.3 m tall) in a large forest plot in Ordesa Valley to examine the importance of density‐dependent processes during recolonization. Biotic interactions were inferred from changes in horizontal structure and the influences of neighbours on tree survival. Buxus differentially influenced establishment and survival of tree species, thereby controlling future canopy composition and spatial structure. The rapidly invading Abies formed denser patches on elevated sites less occupied by Buxus, whereas Fagus preferentially established within shrubs. Abies reached densities which led to intense intraspecific competition and high mortality rates among saplings. Self‐thinning in Abies led to smaller numbers of regularly spaced survivors, and greater relative dominance of Fagus. Disregarding intraspecific effects and abiotic environment, Abies survival was significantly lower under Buxus shrubs, which suggests that the spatial location and abundance of Abies was constrained by the location of Buxus. Fagus survival was not related to Buxus density, but remained significantly lower in denser Abies patches. The higher mortality of Fagus in denser Abies patches, and the resulting spatial segregation of the species, reflects asymmetric interspecific competition. Inhibition from Buxus shrubs and intraspecific competition prevent invading Abies from dominating and may therefore help in maintaining a mixed Abies‐Fagus stand.  相似文献

栎属青冈亚属植物的系统发育地位长期存在着争议,部分种的种间关系不明确。为揭示宁冈青冈(Quercus ningangensis)、曼青冈(Q.oxyodon)、毛曼青冈(Q.gambleana)、竹叶青冈(Q.neglecta)的叶绿体基因组特征及系统发育关系,该研究选择以上4种栎属青冈亚属植物的成熟叶片进行二代测序,对其叶绿体基因组结构和特征进行分析,并结合相关类群进行系统发育研究。结果表明:(1)宁冈青冈、曼青冈、毛曼青冈、竹叶青冈的叶绿体基因组序列长度分别为160 906、160 883、160 832、160 784 bp,均编码133个基因,包括88个蛋白质编码基因、37个tRNA基因、8个rRNA基因。(2)4种栎属青冈亚属植物偏好以A/T结尾的密码子,质体基因组变异区域主要存在于非编码序列。(3)通过IR边界分析得出,4种栎属青冈亚属植物存在ycf1假基因且在IRb/SSC区域发生扩张。(4)系统发育分析显示,在壳斗科中,水青冈属(Fagus)和轮叶三棱栎属(Trigonobalanus)较早分化出来,栎亚属(subg.Quercus)未形成一个单系群,叶绿体基因组建树结...  相似文献
