The purpose of this study was to evaluate the early-phase muscular performance adaptations to 5 weeks of traditional (TRAD) and eccentric-enhanced (ECC+) progressive resistance training and to compare the acute postexercise total testosterone (TT), bioavailable testosterone (BT), growth hormone (GH), and lactate responses in TRAD- and ECC+-trained individuals. Twenty-two previously untrained men (22.1 +/- 0.8 years) completed 1 familiarization and 2 baseline bouts, 15 exercise bouts (i.e., 3 times per week for 5 weeks), and 2 postintervention testing bouts. Anthropometric and 1 repetition maximum (1RM) measurements (i.e., bench press and squat) were assessed during both baseline and postintervention testing. Following baseline testing, participants were randomized into TRAD (4 sets of 6 repetitions at 52.5% 1RM) or ECC+ (3 sets of 6 repetitions at 40% 1RM concentric and 100% 1RM eccentric) groups and completed the 5-week progressive resistance training protocols. During the final exercise bout, blood samples acquired at rest and following exercise were assessed for serum TT, BT, GH, and blood lactate. Both groups experienced similar increases in bench press (approximately 10%) and squat (approximately 22%) strength during the exercise intervention. At the conclusion of training, postexercise TT and BT concentrations increased (approximately 13% and 21%, respectively, p < 0.05) and GH concentrations increased (approximately 750-1200%, p < 0.05) acutely following exercise in both protocols. Postexercise lactate accumulation was similar between the TRAD (5.4 +/- 0.4) and ECC+ (5.6 +/- 0.4) groups; however, the ECC+ group's lactate concentrations were significantly lower than those of the TRAD group 30 to 60 minutes into recovery. In conclusion, TRAD training and ECC+ training appear to result in similar muscular strength adaptations and neuroendocrine responses, while postexercise lactate clearance is enhanced following ECC+ training.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the early-phase adaptations of traditional dynamic constant external resistance (DCER) training vs. a portable upper-body training device (Fortex). The Fortex is a concentric training device based on air resistance. Contractions using this device are slow (1.5-3 s) and have a limited range of motion. The exercises potentially allow maximal muscle action during each contraction. Healthy, sedentary men (n = 30) were assigned to begin either 8 weeks of weight training (W, n = 12) or 8 weeks of Fortex training (F, n = 9), and were compared with a control group (C, n = 9). Exercises were chosen for the W group that would train similar muscle groups and contain a similar volume of repetitions as the F group. However, movement patterns and force curves were not identical. Increases in the upper-arm cross-sectional area were not detected in any of the groups. Both training groups showed strength gains in the various strength tests that were distinct from each other. Our results indicate that both Fortex and DCER training proved effective in eliciting strength gains in sedentary men over an 8-week training period. There are, however, limitations with the Fortex in terms of progression needs and training asymmetry that indicate it should be used as a complement to other training.  相似文献

Strength training (ST; high intensity/low volume/long rest) has been used in several populations, including children, young adults, and older adults. However, there is no information about circuit weight training (CWT; low intensity/high volume/short rest) in apparently healthy postmenopausal women. The purpose of the present study was to analyze the effects of high-intensity ST and circuit training on isometric strength (IS), upper limb dynamic strength (ULS) and lower limb dynamic strength (LLS), muscle activation of quadriceps (EMG quad), maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max), time to exhaustion (TE), and bone mineral density (BMD). Twenty-eight postmenopausal women were divided into 3 groups: 1) ST group (STG, n = 9, 45-80% 1 repetition maximum (1RM), 2-4 sets, 20-6 reps), 2) circuit training group (CTG, n = 10, 45-60% 1RM, 2-3 sets, 20-10 reps), and 3) a control group (CON, n = 9, no exercise). Significance level was defined as p 相似文献

Neuromuscular and hormonal adaptations to prolonged strength training were investigated in nine elite weight lifters. The average increases occurred over the 2-yr follow-up period in the maximal neural activation (integrated electromyogram, IEMG; 4.2%, P = NS), maximal isometric leg-extension force (4.9%, P = NS), averaged concentric power index (4.1%, P = NS), total weight-lifting result (2.8%, P less than 0.05), and total mean fiber area (5.9%, P = NS) of the vastus lateralis muscle, respectively. The training period resulted in increases in the concentrations of serum testosterone from 19.8 +/- 5.3 to 25.1 +/- 5.2 nmol/l (P less than 0.05), luteinizing hormone (LH) from 8.6 +/- 0.8 to 9.1 +/- 0.8 U/l (P less than 0.05), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from 4.2 +/- 2.0 to 5.3 +/- 2.3 U/l (P less than 0.01), and testosterone-to-serum sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) ratio (P less than 0.05). The annual mean value of the second follow-up year for the serum testosterone-to-SHBG ratio correlated significantly (r = 0.84, P less than 0.01) with the individual changes during the 2nd yr in the averaged concentric power. The present results suggest that prolonged intensive strength training in elite athletes may influence the pituitary and possibly hypothalamic levels, leading to increased serum levels of testosterone. This may create more optimal conditions to utilize more intensive training leading to increased strength development.  相似文献

Fascicle angle (FA) is suggested to increase as a result of fiber hypertrophy and furthermore to serve as the explanatory link in the discrepancy in the relative adaptations in the anatomical cross-sectional area (CSA) and fiber CSA after resistance training (RT). In contrast to RT, the effects of endurance training on FA are unclear. The purpose of this study was therefore to investigate and compare the longitudinal effects of either progressive endurance training (END, n = 7) or RT (n = 7) in young untrained men on FA, anatomical CSA, and fiber CSA. Muscle morphological measures included the assessment of vastus lateralis FA obtained by ultrasonography and anatomical CSA by magnetic resonance imaging of the thigh and fiber CSA deduced from histochemical analyses of biopsy samples from m. vastus lateralis. Functional performance measures included VO2max and maximal voluntary contraction (MVC). The RT produced increases in FA by 23 ± 8% (p < 0.01), anatomical CSA of the knee extensor muscles by 9 ± 3% (p = 0.001), and fiber CSA by 19 ± 7% (p < 0.05). RT increased knee extensor MVC by 20 ± 5% (p < 0.001). END increased VO2max by 10 ± 2% but did not evoke changes in FA, anatomical CSA, or in fiber CSA. In conclusion, the morphological changes induced by 10 weeks of RT support that FA does indeed serve as the explanatory link in the observed discrepancy between the changes in anatomical and fiber CSA. Contrarily, 10 weeks of endurance training did not induce changes in FA, but the lack of morphological changes from END indirectly support the fact that fiber hypertrophy and FA are interrelated.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to compare the effects of single-set strength training and 3-set strength training during the early phase of adaptation in 18 untrained male subjects (age, 20-30 years). After initial testing, subjects were randomly assigned to either the 3L-1U group (n = 8), which trained 3 sets in leg exercises and 1 set in upper-body exercises, or the 1L-3U group (n = 10), which trained 1 set in leg exercises and 3 sets in upper-body exercises. Testing was conducted at the beginning and at the end of the study and consisted of 2 maximal isometric tests (knee extension and bench press) and 6 maximal dynamic tests (1 repetition maximum [1RM] tests). Subjects trained 3 days per week for 6 weeks. After warm-up, subjects performed 3 leg exercises and 4 upper-body exercises. In both groups, each set consisted of 7 repetitions (reps) with the load supposed to induce muscular failure after the seventh rep (7RM load). After 6 weeks of training, 1RM performance in all training exercises was significantly increased (10-26%, p < 0.01) in both groups. The relative increase in 1RM load in the 3 leg exercises was significantly greater in the 3L-1U group than in the 1L-3U group (21% vs. 14%, p = 0.01). However, the relative increase in 1RM load in the 3 upper-body exercises was similar in the 3L-1U group (16%) and the 1L-3U group (14%). These results show a superior adaptation to 3-set strength training, compared with 1-set strength training, in leg exercises but not in upper-body exercises during the early phase of adaptation.  相似文献

To compare the effects of 8 weeks of high-resistance circuit (HRC) training (3-6 sets of 6 exercises, 6 repetition maximum [RM], ~35-second interset recovery) and traditional strength (TS) training (3-6 sets of 6 exercises, 6RM, 3-minute interset recovery) on physical performance parameters and body composition, 33 healthy men were randomly assigned to HRC, TS, or a control group. Training consisted of weight lifting 3 times a week for 8 weeks. Before and after the training, 1RM strength on bench press and half squat exercises, bench press peak power output, and body composition (dual x-ray absorptiometry ) were determined. Shuttle run and 30-second Wingate tests were also completed. Upper limb (UL) and lower limb 1RM increased equally after both TS and HRC training. The UL peak power at various loads was significantly higher at posttraining for both groups (p ≤ 0.01). Shuttle-run performance was significantly better after both HRC and TS training, however peak cycling power increased only in TS training (p ≤ 0.05). Significant decreases were found in % body fat in the HRC group only; HRC and TS training both resulted in an increased lean but not bone mass. The HRC training was as effective as TS for improving weight lifting 1RM and peak power, shuttle-run performance and lean mass. Thus, HRC training promoted a similar strength-mass adaptation as traditional training while using a shorter training session duration.  相似文献

The effects were investigated in ten women of intensive heavy resistance strength training lasting for 3 weeks on electromyographic (EMG) activity, muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) and voluntary force production characteristics of leg extensor muscles. Blood samples for the determinations of serum hormones were taken from five of the subjects. Significant increases occurred in the higher force portions of the isometric force-time curve with an increase of 9.7 (SD 8.4)% (P less than 0.01) in maximal peak force. An increase of 15.8 (SD 20.9)% (P less than 0.05) took place also in the maximal neural activation (integrated EMG) of the trained muscles, while an enlargement of 4.6 (SD 7.4)% (P less than 0.05) occurred in the CSA of the quadriceps femoris muscle. Maximal force per muscle CSA increased significantly (P less than 0.05). No statistically significant changes were observed during the training in the mean concentrations of serum testosterone, free testosterone, cortisol and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). The individual concentrations of serum testosterone:SHBG ratio correlated with the individual changes obtained during the training in the muscle CSA (r = 0.99; P less than 0.01). The present findings in women indicated that the increases in maximal strength during short-term but intensive strength training were primarily due to the increased voluntary activation of the trained muscles, while muscle hypertrophy remained limited in magnitude. Large interindividual differences in women in serum testosterone concentrations could indicate corresponding differences in muscle hypertrophy and strength development even during a short-term but intensive strength training period.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the voluntary neural drive and the excitability of the reflex arc could be modulated by training, even in old age. To this aim, the effects of a 16-wk strengthening program on plantar flexor voluntary activation (VA) and on the maximum Hoffman reflex (H(max))-to-maximum M wave (M(max)) ratio were investigated in 14 elderly men (65-80 yr). After training, isometric maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) increased by 18% (P < 0.05) and weight-lifting ability by 24% (P < 0.001). Twitch contraction time decreased by 8% (P < 0.01), but no changes in half relaxation time and in peak twitch torque were observed. The VA, assessed by twitch interpolation, increased from 95 to 98% (P < 0.05). Pretraining VA, also evaluated from the expected MVC for total twitch occlusion, was 7% higher (P < 0.01) than MVC. This discrepancy persisted after training. The interpolated twitch torque-voluntary torque relationship was fitted by a nonlinear model and was found to deviate from linearity for torque levels >65% MVC. Compared with younger men (24-35 yr), the H(max)- to M(max) ratio and nerve conduction velocity (H index) of the older group were significantly lower (42%, P < 0.05; and 29%, P < 0.001, respectively) and were not modulated by training. In conclusion, older men seem to preserve a high VA of plantar flexors. However, the impaired functionality of the reflex pathway with aging and the lack of modulation with exercise suggest that the decrease in the H(max)- to M(max) ratio and H index may be related to degenerative phenomena.  相似文献

Cardiovascular adaptations to exercise training in the elderly   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Maximal O2 uptake (VO2max) and left ventricular function decrease with age. Endurance exercise training of sufficient intensity, frequency, and duration increases VO2max in the elderly. The mechanisms underlying the increased VO2max in the elderly are enhanced O2 extraction of trained muscle during maximal exercise leading to a wider arteriovenous O2 difference, and higher cardiac output in the trained state. However, increased cardiac output during true maximal exercise has not been documented in elderly subjects. Endurance exercise training results in a lower heart rate and rate pressure product during submaximal exercise at a given intensity. However, no improvement in left ventricular function has been reported in the elderly after exercise training. Highly trained master athletes exhibit proportional increases in the left ventricular end-diastolic dimension and wall thickness suggestive of volume-overload hypertrophy compared with age-matched sedentary controls. The magnitude of left ventricular enlargement is similar to that in young athletes. The failure of exercise training to alter the age-related deterioration of left ventricular function in the elderly may reflect an insufficient training stimulus rather than the inability of the heart to adapt to training in elderly subjects.  相似文献

This study evaluated the role of amino acids supplementation on the heart's adaptation under extensive training conditions. Sixty active athletes (bicyclists and swimmers) were separated into 2 groups: 30 were given amino acid mixture (1 g per 10 kg of body weight) for a period of 1 month, and the other 30 were given placebo for the same duration (control group). In the same time period, 20 subjects of similar age not engaged in physical training or sports activities were used as the additional control group. Blood concentrations of alanine transaminase (ALT), asparagine transaminase, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), gamma-glutamil transpeptidase, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), amylase, triglycerides, albumin, interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-10 (IL-10) were determined for all subjects before and after the intervention period. Concentrations of LDH and ALP were increased, but concentrations of ALT, albumin, and triglycerides were decreased in the blood of trained athletes compared with healthy subjects not engaged in sports activities. In the athletes, some increases in IL-6 levels were noted; however, they were significantly (p < 0.05) lower than in patients with myocardiodystrophy. The values of IL-10 in athletes were higher than concentrations of IL-10 in patients with myocardiodystrophy but still lower than the normal values. The inhibition of IL-10 in blood may play an important role in the induction of apoptosis in cells of the heart muscle. After amino acid supplementation, the athletes' values for albumin, triglycerides, IL-10, LDH, and ALP were significantly increased compared with the post-placebo control groups. Enzyme activities of other enzymes remained unchanged in all groups. Histological data from a secondary study of actual heart tissue showed that the amino acids supplementation may have inhibiting effects on myocardial apoptosis. The criteria of efficiency of the amino acids supplementation were defined by the albumin, IL-6, and IL-10 concentrations.  相似文献

Postural specificity of cardiovascular adaptations to exercise training   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The purposes of this study were to determine 1) whether posture affects the magnitude of cardiovascular adaptations to training and 2) whether cardiovascular adaptations resulting from exercise training in the supine posture transfer (generalize) to exercise in the upright posture and vice versa. Sixteen sedentary men, aged 18-33 yr, were trained using high-intensity interval and prolonged continuous cycling in the supine (STG; supine training group) or upright (UTG; upright training group) posture 4 days/wk, 40 min/day, for 8 wk, while seven male subjects served as nontraining controls. After training, maximal O2 uptake measured during supine and upright cycling, respectively, increased significantly (P less than 0.05) by 22.9 and 16.1% in the STG and by 6.0 and 14.6% in the UTG. No significant cardiovascular adaptations were observed at rest. During submaximal supine cycling at 100 W, significant increases in end-diastolic volume (21%) and stroke volume (22%) (radionuclide ventriculography and CO2 rebreathing) and decreases in heart rate, blood pressure, and systemic vascular resistance occurred in the STG, whereas only a significant decrease in blood pressure occurred in the UTG. During upright cycling at 100 W, a significant decrease in blood pressure occurred in the STG, whereas significant increases in end-diastolic volume (17%) and stroke volume (18%) and decreases in blood pressure and systemic vascular resistance occurred in the UTG. Volume of myocardial contractility, ejection fraction, and systolic blood pressure-to-end-systolic volume ratio did not change significantly after training when measured during supine and upright cycling in either training group. Blood volume increased significantly in the UTG but remained unchanged in the STG.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The hemodynamic response to maximal exercise was determined in sedentary and trained rats with a chronic myocardial infarction (MI) produced by coronary artery ligation and in rats that underwent sham operations (SHAM). Infarct size in the MI groups of rats comprised 28-29% of the total left ventricle and resulted in both metabolic and hemodynamic changes that suggested that these animals had moderate compensated heart failure. The training regimen used in the present study produced significant increases in maximal O2 uptake (VO2max) when expressed in absolute terms (ml/min) or when normalized for body weight (ml.min-1.kg-1) and consisted of treadmill running at work loads that were equivalent to 70-80% of the animal's VO2max for a period of 60 min/day, 5 days/wk over an 8- to 10-wk interval. This training paradigm produced two major cardiocirculatory adaptations in the MI rat that had not been elicited previously when using a training paradigm of a lower intensity. First, the decrement in the maximal heart rate response to exercise (known as "chronotropic incompetence") found in the sedentary MI rat was completely reversed by endurance training. Second, the downregulation of cardiac myosin isozyme composition from the fast ATPase V1 isoform toward the slower ATPase (V2 and V3) isoforms in the MI rat was partially reversed by endurance training. These cardiac adaptations occurred without a significant increase in left ventricular pump function as an increase in maximal cardiac output (Qmax) and maximal stroke volume (SVmax) did not occur in the trained MI rat.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
