Pakistan is bestowed by a diversified array of wild bird species including collared doves of which the taxonomy has been least studied and reported. DNA barcoding is a geno-taxonomic tool that has been used for characterization of bird species using mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I gene (COI). This study aimed to identify taxonomic order of Pakistani collared dove using DNA barcoding. Purposely herein, we present a phylogenetic analysis of Pakistani collared dove based on 650 base pairs of COI gene sequences. Analysis of phylogenetic tree revealed that Pakistani collared dove shared a common clade with Eurasian collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto) and African collared dove (Streptopelia roseogrisea) which indicated a super-species group in Streptopelia genus. This is the first report of molecular classification of Pakistani collared dove using DNA barcoding.  相似文献

Display flight in collared doves Streptopelia decaocto consists of a rapid ascent from a perch, followed by a glide back to the same or near-by perch. The hypothesis that ascending flight presents an honest signal of the maximum power generating capacity of the displayer is considered. Using a deliberately conservative approach to calculating the power requirements of collared dove display flights, the highest power performance in an ascending collared dove is equivalent to that derived from wind tunnel studies on the morphologically similar ringed turtle-dove Streptopelia risoria . Muscle power requirements are very high (up to 232  W/kg), representing the highest performance measured in the field to date. However, the maximum energy requirements over an hour due to climbing power equates to only 5% of the basal metabolic rate. Display flight in collared doves appears to be an efficient and 'uncheatable' system for demonstrating fitness, either for mating or for territory defence.  相似文献

The Eurasian collared‐dove (Streptopelia decaocto) has recently experienced a population explosion in North America. It is frequently infected with West Nile virus (WNV). To test the hypothesis that the Eurasian collared‐dove is competent to transmit WNV, we experimentally infected two cohorts of doves with two different strains of WNV, CO08, and NY99, respectively. Both virus strains induced a low‐level viremia, capable of infecting a small fraction of vector mosquitoes. We suggest that the Eurasian collared‐dove plays a relatively insignificant role as an amplifying host for WNV, but it may be important where it is locally abundant.  相似文献

Studying the relationships among introduced species, their preferred habitats, and native species can be important for predicting the effects of invasions on native populations. Examining the colonization of North America by the Eurasian collared‐dove Streptopelia decaocto, we quantified the habitat characteristics of sites most likely to be occupied by this invasive bird species in the early stages of the invasion. Further, we studied the relationship between collared‐dove abundance and the abundance of other dove species in the study area, anticipating a negative effect on established species following the introduction of a potential competitor. Linking satellite‐derived landcover data with winter bird community data gathered from 444 study sites in Florida, USA from 1999 to 2008, we found that collared‐doves were more likely to occur in landscapes that had been highly‐modified by human activity than in forested landscapes. Collared‐dove abundance increased as the proportion of the landscape characterized as low‐intensity development and medium/high‐intensity development increased. The probability of collared‐doves occurring at a site was also related to the spatial proximity of other sites reporting doves (positive spatial autocorrelation). Contrary to our expectations, the site‐level abundance of four other dove species all increased with collared‐dove abundance throughout the sampling period. Interactions between collared‐doves and native species should be further studied in different environments as this invasive bird rapidly colonizes North America.  相似文献

Survival after H2O2 exposure or heat shock of asynchronous Chinese hamster ovary cells (HA-1) was assayed following pretreatment with mildly toxic doses of either H2O2 or hyperthermia. H2O2 cytotoxicity at 37 degrees C, expressed as a function of mM H2O2 was found to be dependent on cell density at the time of treatment. The density dependence reflected the ability of cells to reduce the effectiveness of H2O2 as a cytotoxic agent. When the survival data were plotted as a function of mumoles H2O2/cell at the beginning of the treatment, survival was independent of cell density. Cells pretreated with 0.1 mM (3-5 mumoles/cell X 10(-7)) H2O2 for 1 hr at 37 degrees C (30-50% survival) became resistant to a subsequent H2O2 treatment 16-36 hr after pretreatment [dose modifying factor (DMF) at 1% isosurvival = 4-6]. Their resistance to 43 degrees C heating, however, was only slightly increased over controls 16-36 hr following pretreatment (DMF at 1% isosurvival = 1.2). During this same interval, the synthesis of protein migrating in the 70 kD region of a one-dimensional SDS-polyacrylamide gel was enhanced twofold in the H2O2-pretreated cells. When the cells were heated for 15 min at 45 degrees C (40-60% survival), the survivors became extremely resistant to 43 degrees C heating and somewhat resistant to H2O2 (DMF at 1% isosurvival = 2). The heat-induced resistance to heat developed much more rapidly (reached a maximum between 6 and 13 hr) following pretreatment than the heat-induced resistance to H2O2 (16-36 hr). The enhanced synthesis of 70 kD protein after heat shock was greater in magnitude and occurred more rapidly following preheating than following H2O2 pretreatment. The cells that became resistant to H2O2 by either pretreatment (H2O2 or heat shock) also increased their ability to reduce the H2O2 cytotoxicity from the treatment medium beyond that of the untreated HA-1 cells. This may be one of the mechanisms involved in the increased resistance and a common adaptive mechanism induced by both stresses. These data indicate that mammalian cells develop resistance to H2O2 following mild pretreatment with H2O2 or heat shock. The cross-resistance induced by H2O2 and heat shock reinforce the hypothesis that some overlap in mechanisms exist between the cellular responses to these two stresses. However, the failure of H2O2 pretreatment to induce much resistance to heat indicates that there are also differences in the actions of the two agents.  相似文献

Skin is an important avenue of water loss in terrestrial birds, so environmental conditions that necessitate water conservation should favor physiological mechanisms that reduce cutaneous water loss (CWL). Skin resistance to CWL is conferred by a barrier of lipid molecules located in the stratum corneum (SC), the outer layer of the epidermis. In mammals, SC barrier function depends on the conversion of cerebrosides to ceramides by the enzyme beta -glucocerebrosidase ( beta -GlcCer'ase). Avian SC contains both cerebrosides and ceramides, suggesting that observed plasticity in CWL may be mediated by changes in beta -GlcCer'ase activity and resultant SC lipid composition. We tested the hypothesis that changes in ambient humidity would alter beta -GlcCer'ase activity by acclimating house sparrows (Passer domesticus) to either dry (6.5 g H(2)O m(-3) absolute humidity) or humid (31 g H(2)O m(-3)) conditions for 5 and 21 d at 30 degrees C and then measuring beta -GlcCer'ase activity from SC homogenates. Our results provide the first characterization of beta -GlcCer'ase activity in any nonmammalian vertebrate. Relative to nonacclimated controls, both dry- and humid-acclimated sparrows had significantly elevated beta -GlcCer'ase activity at 21 d postacclimation. Across individuals, we observed negative correlations between beta -GlcCer'ase activity and both CWL and SC ceramide content. Although dry- and humid-acclimated sparrows did not differ in beta -GlcCer'ase activity, these results are consistent with our findings that both humidity treatments caused a reduction in CWL and similar changes in SC lipid composition. Our results demonstrate physiological plasticity in CWL and provide tentative support for a role of beta -GlcCer'ase in mediating this response.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Of 2 species of malaria parasites described from the toco toucan (Ramphastos toco), one (Plasmodium huffi) has been thought to be of doubtful validity, mainly because the erythrocytic cycle was said to include 2 distinct types of segmenters, varying greatly in size and fecundity. We recently found a parasite in a Swainson's toucan (R. swainsonii) which seems the same as the smaller component of P. huffi, and a 2nd small species of Plasmodium, apparently P. rouxi, in the blood of a sulfur-breasted toucan (R. s. sulfuratus). Unlike P. huffi, the former is easily transmissible by blood inoculation to canaries, in which it causes a highly fatal infection. It resembles P. nucleophilum structurally, tho there are minor differences. We propose to call it Plasmodium nucleophilum tucani. In sharp contrast to P. huffi, only mature erythrocytes in the blood are parasitized. Death of infected canaries seems to be the result of massive invasion of the internal organs, especially lungs and brain, by exoerythrocytic stages. A number of other bird species, among them the common jungle babbler, lesser hill mynah, ring-necked and sacred white dove, common pigeon, and Indian hill partridge (chukar) proved essentially refractory, but the collared aracari developed a mild infection much like that observed in toucans. Two young sulfur-breasted toucans failed to become infected when given heavy dosages of blood from a blue-eared glossy starling having a naturally acquired infection of Plasmodium nucleophilum, of the type occurring in passerines.  相似文献

Genetic introgression with exotic genomes represents a major conservation concern for the red-legged partridge (Alectoris rufa, Phasianidae). In particular, massive releases of chukar partridges (Alectoris chukar) and/or red-legged × chukar partridge hybrids for hunting purposes have cast serious doubts on the Italian present-day occurrence of wild A. rufa populations not affected by introgressive hybridization. This study investigates the genetic structure of red-legged partridges populations in two ecologically different areas in Northern Italy. Analysis of maternal mitochondrial DNA and biparental microsatellite markers excluded the presence of hybridization in a typical agricultural habitat where hunting and release of reared birds are strictly banned. By contrast, signs of chukar introgression were detected in a perifluvial habitat unusual for the red-legged partridge in Italy. The present study documents the first red-legged partridge population with no genetic evidences of recent chukar introgression presently living in Italy. We recommend that urgent conservation actions are taken to preserve the genetic integrity of this population from the risk of hybridization with farm-reared birds and to support its long-term conservation.  相似文献

Metabolic rate and colonic temperature were measured in chukars between 1st and 108th day of life (divided into six age groups: 1-3-days old, 1, 2, 3, and 4-weeks old and 3.5-months old) in ambient temperatures set separately for each group and ranging from -12 to 41 degrees C. The Gompertz growth constant for growing chukars (0.042) was close to the value obtained in earlier study for the grey partridge. Similarly as in other species of Galliformes, newly hatched chukar chicks had lower T(b) at TNZ (39.5 degrees C) than that found in older birds (41.3 degrees C in 4-weeks old). The body temperatures taken at TNZ in 2-weeks old chicks and older fitted neatly within allometrically predicted limits of body temperatures for adult birds. The values of RMR at TNZ followed closely a biphasic pattern, with the second phase correlating strongly with the body mass. The value of metabolic scope (the level of metabolic efficiency) for the youngest group was high (3.2) and exceeded the values obtained in earlier studies for other gallinaceous species, including the grey partridge. The obtained values of minimum wet thermal conductance for growing chukar chicks exceeded the predicted values by approximately 40% but the slopes of both lines were very similar. In chukars, the key stage in the expression of fully developed thermoregulatory capacities comes immediately after the first week of life (maintaining somewhat constant body temperature, evident drop in the value of RMR at TNZ and minimal thermal conductance). The model of gradual development of thermoregulation which could be derived from the experiments on chukar chicks was characteristic for typical precocial birds.  相似文献

We studied the ontogeny of shivering thermogenesis in breast and leg muscles of precocial galliforms (domestic fowl, grey partridge, and Japanese quail) and the altricial domestic pigeon using electromyography (EMG) and indirect calorimetry. Galliforms were able to increase heat production by shivering in leg muscles at the youngest age studied (1-2 d). Pectorals contributed to heat production from days 7-10 onward, but in the partridge and especially in the fowl, shivering by the pectorals was weaker than in the quail. In the pigeon, shivering began in pectorals and legs at 2 and 4 d of age, respectively, and pectorals had clearly the predominant role in thermogenesis. Despite the early beginning of electrical signs of shivering, significant thermogenesis did not appear in the pigeon before the age of 6 d. All galliforms shivered in bursts, like pigeons aged 2-4 d. From the age of 6 d onward, continuous shivering became predominant in the pigeon. In pectorals of 2-6-d-old pigeons, shivering did not increase linearly during decreasing ambient temperature, as in other muscles and species, but started abruptly, at full intensity. Furthermore, in 2-4-d-old pigeons, cooling induced movement activity in legs. The median frequency of shivering EMGs varied (1) with maturation of the muscle, (2) with size of the adult bird, and (3) between altricials and precocials.  相似文献

The Galβ1-4Gal epitope is rarely found in mammals, and the natural antibody against Galβ1-4Gal is rich in human. In contrast, we have previously demonstrated the presence of Galβ1-4Gal in pigeon and ostrich, and the absence of this epitope in chicken. Here, to further investigate the expression of this glycan among birds, egg white glycoproteins and egg yolk IgG from nine species of birds, namely, chicken, duck, emu, guineafowl, ostrich, peafowl, pigeon, quail, and turkey, were analyzed by western blot using an anti-(Galβ1-4Gal) antibody. The results indicated that some egg white glycoproteins from emu, ostrich, and quail, and heavy chains of IgG from all of the birds, except chicken and quail, were stained with the antibody. The presence of Galβ1-4Gal on N-glycans of IgGs from guineafowl, peafowl, and turkey were confirmed by mass spectrometry (MS), MS/MS, and MSn analyses. In quail, the presence of Galβ1-4Gal was confirmed by detecting the activities of UDP-galactose: β-galactoside β1,4-galactosyltransferase (β4GalT(Gal)) in various tissues, and by detecting Galβ1-4Gal by western blotting. In contrast, bamboo partridge, which is a close relative of chicken, did not show any detectable activities of β4GalT(Gal) or Galβ1-4Gal on glycoproteins. Because quail, peafowl, turkey, chicken, and bamboo partridge belong to the same family, i.e., Phasianidae, expression of Galβ1-4Gal was most likely differentiated within this family. Considering that Galβ1-4Gal is also expressed in ostrich, emu, and pigeon, which are phylogenetically distant relatives within modern birds, Galβ1-4Gal expression appears to be widely distributed among birds, but might have been abolished in the ancestors of chicken and bamboo partridge.  相似文献

Skin lipids play an important role in the regulation of cutaneous water loss (CWL). Earlier studies have shown that Saudi desert birds exhibit a tendency of reduced CWL than birds from temperate environment due to adaptive changes in composition of their skin lipids. In this study, we used thin-layer chromatography (TLC) for separation and detection of non-polar and polar lipids from the skin of six bird species including sooty gull, brown booby, house sparrow, Arabian waxbill, sand partridge, and laughing dove. The lipids were separated and detected on Silica gel G coated TLC plates and quantified by using densitometric image analysis. Rf values of the non-polar lipids were as follows: cholesterol (0.29), free fatty acids (0.58), triacylglycerol (0.69), fatty acids methyl esters (0.84) and cholesterol ester (0.97). Rf values for the polar lipids were: cerebroside (0.42), ceramide (0.55) and cholesterol (0.73). The results showed the abundance of fatty acids methyl esters (47.75–60.46%) followed by triacylglycerol (12.69–24.14%). The remaining lipid compositions were as follows: cholesterol (4.09–13.18%), ceramide (2.18–13.27%), and cerebroside (2.53–12.81%). In conclusion, our findings showed that TLC is a simple and sensitive method for the separation and quantification of skin lipids. We also reported a new protocol for lipid extraction using the zirconia beads for efficient disruption of skin tissues. This study will help us better understand the role of skin lipids in adaptive physiology towards adverse climatic conditions.  相似文献

本文运用聚合链式反应和直接测序的方法测定陇东黄土高原 8个石鸡 (Alectorischukar)地理种群 78个样本的mtDNA控制区 4 91bp ,建立其分子系统地理结构。 78个样本共发现 2 4个变异位点 ,2 5种单倍型。 8个地理种群共享单倍型C1 ,6个种群共享单倍型C2 ,种群间有一定的基因交流。 8个地理种群的 2 5种单倍型在NJ树中相互混杂 ,没有形成独立的地理结构 ,但聚成两个分支。单倍型网络图显示 2 5种单倍型聚成两个星状的集群 ,分别以单倍型C1和C2为中心。这两个群间的遗传差异显著。陇东黄土高原石鸡的系统地理结构属于“系统发生连续 ,具有部分空间隔离”的地理格局。这种地理格局是更新世冰川、泥石流和人类活动共同作用的结果  相似文献

Survival following 3 hr of total circulatory arrest under profound hypothermic conditions was explored in 19 adult mongrel dogs. Thermoregulatory management included combined surface/perfusion hypothermia and azeotrope anesthesia in 95% O2/5% CO2. All animals were resuscitated and survived for at least 12 hr. During the last seven trials (Group II) the following principles were applied: uniform whole-body cooling where differences between rectal, esophageal, and pharyngeal temperatures averaged less than 1 degree C, induction of circulatory arrest at approximately 3 degrees C, constant lung inflation (10-12 cm H2O between 20 degrees C cooling and 20 degrees C rewarming, including the 3-hr arrest period) and ventilation assistance with positive end-expiratory pressure (4 cm H2O) after 20 degrees C rewarming, intraoperative maintenance of colloid osmotic pressure (COP) above 11 mm Hg, replacement of the cooling perfusate with a colloid-rich rewarming prime (COP = 15 mm Hg) and restoration of hemostasis with fresh whole blood transfusions. The application of these principles resulted in the long-term survival of five animals with four survivors displaying no clinically detectable neurological abnormalities. However, two animals developed optic impairment and one animal died from intusseption on the fourth postoperative day. Despite the improved results, it should also be noted that during pilot (Group I) studies (from which the aforementioned principles were derived) fatalities from complications attributed to systemic edema, central nervous system, or pulmonary or coagulation dysfunctions occurred in 9 out of 12 trials. We conclude that whole body protection following 3 hr of total circulatory arrest at a uniform temperature less than 5 degrees C can be successfully accomplished.  相似文献

A new species of coccidium, Eimeria lettyae sp. n. (Protozoa: Eimeriidae) was recovered from feces of the northern bobwhite, Colinus virginianus (L.), from Pennsylvania and Florida. Oocysts measured 21.1 microns (16.4 to 25.8) by 17.2 microns (14.1 to 21.2); index (L/W ratio) = 1.22. Oocysts lacked a micropyle, residuum, and polar granules. Sporozoites penetrated the upper 1/2 of the villi, then moved to the lamina propria at the base of the villi. There were five asexual generations, all of which developed above the nucleus of the host cell. Meronts measured 9.4 X 7.0 microns, 18.6 X 11.2 microns, 11.8 X 10.1 microns, 7.1 X 6.2 microns, and 20.2 X 12.8 microns, respectively. These matured at 32, 40, 48, 56, and 72 hr postinoculation (PI) and contained 12, 50+, 24 to 36, 12 to 24, and 50+ merozoites, respectively. Infection was most intense in the duodenum although some gamonts were found in the ileum and ceca. The prepatent period was 88 to 91 hr PI. Sporulation time was 18 hr at 25 C. The peak of oocyst production was broad and extended from 4 days PI through 14 days PI. Oocysts were passed for at least 67 to 76 days PI. Eimeria lettyae sp. n. did not infect chickens (Gallus domesticus), domestic turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo), ring-necked pheasants (Phasianus cochicus), chukar partridge (Alectoris graeca), or Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix). Immunizing bobwhite with E. lettyae sp. n. did not protect against challenge with E. dispersa. Immunizing bobwhites 25 times with 10(2) or 10(3) sporulated oocysts of E. lettyae did not entirely eliminate oocyst production following challenge with the same species.  相似文献

石鸡 (Alectorischukar)是我国北方重要的猎鸟 ,由于栖息地片断化和人类狩猎 ,陇东黄土高原上的石鸡数量正日益减少。本文用PCR直接测序的方法 ,测定了陇东黄土高原 8个石鸡种群mtDNA控制区I区和部分II区的4 91个碱基 ,探讨其遗传多样性。 78个样本共发现 2 4个变异位点 (占所测序列的 4 .89% )和 2 5种单倍型 (占所测样本的 32 .0 5 % )。 8个种群中 ,铜川种群的序列变异率、单倍型多样性和核苷酸多样性都最高 ,分别是 0 .4 7、0 .82和 0 .0 0 2 9;而红回种群的最低 ,仅分别为 0 .10、0 .2 8和 0 .0 0 0 8,这与红回种群受奠基者效应、遗传隔离和自然选择的作用有关。 8个种群共享 1种单倍型C1,说明它们来自共同祖先 ,是 1个单系群 ,属于 1个进化显著单元 ,但它们聚成两个集群。两集群间单倍型相似性指数仅 0 .15 ,遗传距离达 0 .4 3% ,单因素方差分析显示遗传变异差异显著 (F =5 .0 2 >F0 .0 5(14 ,1) =4 .0 6 ) ,分别有 13种和 10种单倍型为两个集群所特有。基于遗传差异性 ,陇东黄土高原的石鸡应分为两个管理单元进行保护 ,尤其对遗传变异和遗传多样性最高的铜川种群应进行重点保护。  相似文献

Monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity was measured in ring dove (Streptopelia risoria) tissues using a fluorometric assay with kynuramine as substrate. Harmaline inhibited MAO activity in a time-dependent manner, and preincubation of enzyme with the drug did not affect its activity. Pargyline produced a slow-onsetting inhibition of activity which was enhanced by preincubation of enzyme and inhibitor. Harmaline displayed reversible non-competitive inhibition of MAO activity. Oxygen is also a substrate for dove MAO, and the reaction apparently involves "ping-pong", double-displacement kinetics. Dove MAO activity is temperature-dependent, with an activation energy of 13.1 kcal/mole.  相似文献

The metabolic physiology of the Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes) and the Brush Bronzewing (Phaps elegans) is generally similar to that expected for birds of their size, but the Crested Pigeon has a number of characteristics which would aid survival in hot and dry regions. Body temperature increased similarly for the Crested Pigeon (from 38.8 degrees C to 41.5 degrees C) and the Brush Bronzewing (39.3 degrees C to 41.4 degrees C) over ambient temperatures (T(a)s) from 10 degrees C to 35 degrees C. Both species became hyperthermic (body temperature, T(b)>42 degrees C) at T(a)=45 degrees C. Basal metabolic rate of the Crested Pigeon (0.65 ml O(2) g(-1) h(-1) at 40 degrees C) was approximately 71% of that predicted for a columbid bird, while BMR of the Brush Bronzewing (0.87 ml O(2) g(-1) h(-1) at 20 degrees C to 40 degrees C) was approximately 102% of predicted. Total evaporative water loss increased exponentially with T(a) for both species, from <1 mg H(2)O g(-1) h(-1) at 10 degrees C to >12 mg H(2)O g(-1) h(-1) at 45 degrees C. It was similar and low for both species at T(a)<30 degrees C, but was higher for the Brush Bronzewing than the Crested Pigeon at T(a)>30 degrees C. Ventilatory minute volume matched oxygen consumption, such that oxygen extraction efficiency did not change with T(a) and was similar for both species (approximately 20%). Expired air temperature was considerably lower than T(b) for both species at T(a)<35 degrees C, potentially reducing respiratory water loss by approximately 65% at T(a)=10 degrees C to approximately 30% at T(a)=35 degrees C. Cutaneous evaporative cooling was significant for both species, with skin resistance decreasing as T(a) increased. The Crested Pigeon had a lower skin resistance than the Brush Bronzewing at T(a)=45 degrees C. The Brush Bronzewing had apparently reached its maximum cutaneous water loss at 30 degrees C and relied on panting to cool at higher T(a).  相似文献

The isopod Crustacean Sphaeroma serratum is isotonic to the medium in sea water and hypertonic in diluted media. The drinking rate is 15.9 microliter in SW and 3.2 microliter 24 h-1 100 mg-1 wet weight in 50% SW. The extracellular space is 28.4% in SW and 27.0% of the wet weight in 50% SW. The rate of urine production, calculated from the half time for the loss of sodium diatriazoate is 11.8 mg in SW and 42.9 mg 24 h-1 100 mg-1 wet weight in 50% SW. 95% of the diffusion fluxes of water take place through the pleopods: their surface is about 62.6 mm2 in a 100 mg weighing animal. The activation energy of water molecules is 15.0 kcal/mol between +5 degrees C and +15 degrees C and 6.7 kcal/mol between +15 degrees C and +25 degrees C. The diffusion permeability coefficient Pd is 1.71 X 10(-4) cm/sec in SW and 0.70 X 10(-4) cm/sec in 50% SW. The osmotic permeability coefficient Pos has a mean value of 1.91 X 10(-4) cm/sec in SW and 1.24 X 10(-4) cm/sec in 50% SW. Our results are compared with those obtained in other Crustaceans and in Fishes. Their validity is discussed (influence of unstirred layers, solute-solvent interaction). Eurasian collared doves (Streptopelia decaocto) have expanded their range across the United States since their introduction several decades ago. Recent mortality events in Eurasian collared doves in Arizona and Montana, USA, during the winter of 2009-2010 were the result of pigeon paramyxovirus (PPMV), a novel disease agent. The first instance of mortality by this emerging infectious disease in this species occurred in Florida in 2001 with subsequent disease events in 2006 and 2008. Full diagnostic necropsies were performed on carcasses from the three states. PPMV was identified by RT-PCR and virus isolation and was sequenced to the VIb genotype of avian paramyxovirus-1 (APMV). Other APMVs are common in a variety of free-ranging birds, but concern is warranted because of the potential for commingling of this species with native birds, virus evolution, and threats to domestic poultry. Improved surveillance for wildlife mortality events and efforts to prevent introduction of non-native animals could reduce the threat of introducing new pathogens.  相似文献
