The study investigated the influence of volatile amines, total volatile bases nitrogen (TVB‐N) and trimethylamine nitrogen (TMA‐N) quantities in sardines (Sardina pilchardus) and herring (Clupea harengus) after 1 year of frozen storage. TVB‐N quantities for both species were within the tolerance limit (25–35 mg/100 g). TVB‐N and TMA‐N increase factors over the initial values for sardines were 1.6 and 4.9, and 1.4 and 3.6 for herring. Results showed that TMA‐N quantities were twice those registered as acceptable for these species , rendering the analysed fish unsuitable for tuna fattening. Previously registered increases in tuna mortalities were caused by secondary bacterial infection (pasteurellosis) from these baitfish. Tissue samples from diseased animals and the control group differed widely in their histological architecture, suggesting that rearing conditions, e.g. quality of administered baitfish, indirectly influenced tuna health.  相似文献

The study was designed to investigate the effects of frozen storage on the proximate composition and chemical indices of pike (Esox lucius) stored for a period of six months at ?20°C. During storage the moisture, protein and fatty acid contents decreased and the ash, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB‐N) and peroxide value (PV) content increased significantly (P < 0.05). In the fresh samples the moisture, total protein and total lipid contents were 77.61%, 19.21%, and 2.3% respectively. At the end of the storage time the above‐mentioned parameters were measured as 75.98%, 16.95%, 0.9%, respectively. TVB‐N and PV contents changed from 1.30%, 6.27, 0.18 in fresh samples to 2.21%, 15.12 mg/100 g and 1.73 meq o2 kg?1 after six months frozen storage, respectively. Thirty fatty acids were found in pike fillets, with a higher percentage in fresh fish of polyunsaturated fatty acids (51.14%), saturated fatty acids (22.94%) and mono unsaturated fatty acids (22.61%). The PUFAs decreased to 31.67% at the end of the storage time. Although some changes in quality and nutritional value were observed in the pike fillets during frozen storage, the changes were within the acceptable range.  相似文献

Studied were the quantities of volatile amines, total volatile bases nitrogen (TVB‐N) and trimethylamine nitrogen (TMA‐N) in stored sardines (Sardina pilchardus) and herring (Clupea harengus) over a 24‐h period after defrosting. At the beginning of the experiment analyses showed TVB‐N quantities in the flesh of both species to be higher than the FAO‐recommended limit. TMA‐N concentrations exceeded the acceptance limit 6 h after defrosting in herring samples and after 12 h in sardines. During the entire experiment TMA‐N and TVB‐N concentrations in sardines were above the tolerance limit. The defrosting method usually applied in tuna farms is unsuitable for maintenance of a high quality food supply. Low quality baitfish can cause reduced weight gain as well as induce health problems and mortality in farmed tuna (Thunnus thynnus) populations.  相似文献

The effects of frozen storage on fish balls derived from Alburnus mossulensis at −18 ± 2°C were studied. Several chemical parameters were determined [pH, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB‐N), thiobarbituric acid (TBA), free fatty acids (FFA)]. Further, microbiological effects were analysed during storage [Total mesophilic aerobic bacteria (TMAB), total psychrophilic bacteria (TPB), coliform and yeast‐mould count]. Finally, sensory quality tests were performed with fresh and stored balls. Fish balls were composed of 64% fish meat and 36% other ingredients, including: 18% boiled rice, 11.4% onions, 1.8% parsley, 3.8% fat, 0.7% salt and 0.26% black pepper. This basic mixture was processed to form small (25 g) balls and a pre‐cooking process was applied. Test balls were divided into two groups: vacuum packed (A1) and a control group without vacuum (A2). Test packages were stored for 6 months, resulting in increased pH, TVB‐N, TBA and FFA, while the values for sensory properties declined. However, these changes did not drop below the limit of acceptance. Total mesophilic aerobic bacteria and total psychrophilic bacteria were significantly reduced in both A1 and A2 groups.  相似文献

The present study attempts to assess the potential of artificial substrates to enhance fish production in inland saline groundwater ponds through periphyton production. Grey mullet, Mugil cephalus, was cultured for 100 days in ponds with substrate (treatment ponds) and without substrate (control ponds). To enhance the surface area, bamboo poles were used as substrate. The periphyton population, pigment concentration and hydrobiological characteristics of pond water were monitored. The studies revealed little difference in most of the water quality parameters observed in the two treatments. However, turbidity (27.0 ± 0.1–35.0 ± 0.1 Nephalo Turbidity Unit (NTU)), chlorophyll ‘a’ (6.6 ± 0.6–7.6 ± 0.6 μg L?1), plankton population (phytoplankton 8.4 × 103–9.4 ×103 numbers L?1; zooplankton 4.0 × 103–5.1 × 103 numbers L?1) and NH4–N (2.0 ± 0.2–2.3 ± 0.1 mg L?1) were high in the treatment with no additional substrate; however, in the treatment with substrate the total Kjeldahl nitrogen (9.8 ± 0.8–10.8 ± 0.7 mg L?1) and o‐PO4 (0.1 ± 0.01–0.1 mg L?1) remained significantly (P < 0.05) higher. Highest periphyton biomass in terms of dry matter (DM) (0.8 ± 0.01–1.4 ±0.01 mg cm?2), ash free DM (0.4 ± 0.0–0.6 ± 0.01 mg cm?2), chlorophyll ‘a’ (3.1 ± 0.2–8.1 ± 0.8 μg cm?2) and pheophytin ‘a’ (1.9 ± 0.4–3.9 ± 0.5 μg cm?2) was observed at 50 cm depth in ponds provided with additional substrate. Fifteen plankton genera showing periphytic affinity colonized the bamboo substrates. Fish growth (mean fish weight 524.3 ± 8.7 g and SGR 2.5 ± 0.1) was significantly (P < 0.05) higher in ponds provided with additional substrate compared with control ponds (387.2 ± 6.0). Length–weight relationship (LWR) (W = cLn) also showed that the exponential value (‘n’) of length was high in substrate‐supported ponds (n = 2.36) in comparison with controls (n = 1.09). These studies suggest that a periphyton‐supported aquaculture system can be used successfully for the culture of herbivorous brackishwater fish species like M. cephalus in inland saline groundwaters and thus could contribute to the development of sound and sustainable aquaculture technology.  相似文献

The present study investigated the effect of reventilation with 21% and 100% oxygen following asphyxia in newborn piglets on NMDA receptor binding characteristics, Na+, K+-ATPase activity, and lipid peroxidation. After achieving a heart rate less than 60 beats per minute, asphyxiated piglets were reventilated with 21% oxygen or 100% oxygen. 3[H]MK-801 binding showed the Bmax in the 21% and 100% groups to be 1.53 ± 0.43 and 1.42 ± 0.35 pmol/mg protein (p = ns). Values for Kd were 4.56 ± 1.29 and 4.17 ± 1.05 nM (p = ns). Na+, K+-ATPase activity in the 21% and 100% groups were 23.5 ± 0.9 and 24.4 ± 3.9 μmol Pi/mg protein/h (p = ns). Conjugated dienes (0.05 ± 0.02 vs. 0.07 ± 0.03 μmol/g brain) and fluorescent compounds (0.54 ± 0.05 vs. 0.78 ± 0.19 μg quinine sulfate/g brain), were similar in both groups (p = ns). Though lipid peroxidation products trended higher in the 100% group, these data show that NMDA receptor binding and Na+, K+-ATPase activity were similar following reventilation with 21% or 100% oxygen after a single episode of mild asphyxia. This study compared the body composition (fillet yield, chemical composition and lipid quality of fillets) and sensory quality of captured wild (by gillnet in August 2011) with experimentally raised farmed (reared in concrete flow‐through raceways, average water temperature 10 ± 3°C) whitefish, Coregonus macrophthalmus, from Lake Constance. The study was conducted in 2011 using 28 wild and 24 farmed market‐sized fish of approximately equal total lengths (25.1 ± 1.21 and 25.6 ± 1.28 cm). Farmed female Coregonus macrophthalmus exhibited a 3.3% lower fillet yield resulting from larger gonads and a shallower body shape. The protein contents of farmed and wild fillets were equal (17.5% vs. 17.4%), but farmed fish fillets contained less moisture (76.1% vs.77.4%), less ash (1.2% vs. 1.6%), and more lipid (5.1% vs. 4.1%) than wild‐caught specimens. Levels of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) were higher in farmed fish (42.0 vs. 31.0 g/100 g lipid), as well as the levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA; 26.0 vs. 19.7 g/100 g lipid), in particular 22:6n?3 (docosahexaenoic acid, DHA; 7.3 vs. 2.1 g/100 g lipid). Conversely, wild fish fillets contained significantly more 20:4n?6 (arachidonic acid, AA; 1.6 vs. 0.4 g/100 g lipid) and 20:5n?3 (eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA; 4.1 vs. 3.2 g/100 g lipid). Sensory evaluation of odour, colour, texture and flavour by an experienced six‐person panel revealed a significant preference for the colour (79% vs. 21%) of farmed fish fillets. In conclusion, farmed whitefish can be strong competitors to wild whitefish in terms of product quality, with higher levels of healthy fatty acids and a more attractive fillet colour. Farmed Coregonus macrophthalmus thus represents a promising and pragmatic approach, compensating for the current capture decline in the whitefish fisheries of Lake Constance.  相似文献

The life history characteristics of introduced Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.) in Lake Victoria, including, sex ratio, fecundity, reproduction, weight‐length relationship and body condition were studied and compared with those of other populations. Samples were collected by trawling and seining in the Kenyan sector of Lake Victoria between June 1998 and December 2000. Males predominated over females (sex ratio 1.42 : 1 : 00). O. niloticus spawned throughout the year but with a peak between December and June. Length at first maturity was (mean ± SD) 30.81 ± 0.09 for females and 34.5 ± 6 0.48 for males. There was little seasonal variation in relative condition, which ranged from 0.92 to 1.05 in males and 0.94 to 1.07 in females. Gonadosomatic index (GSI) was low during the postspawning period (July to October) and high during the protracted breeding period (December and June). Fecundity ranged from 905 to 7619 oocytes for fish of 28 to 51 cm total length (TL) respectively. The relationships between fecundity (F) and total length (L), weight (W) and ovary weight (OW) were: F = 8.159L1.53, F = 96.269W0.4504, F = 1806 + 39.4OW. The slope b of the weight‐length relationship was 3.08–3.32 for males and 3.07–3.22 for females. Growth was allometric in both cases and was significantly different from the expected value of 3. The life history strategy of O. niloticus is discussed in context of environmental changes occurring in the lake.  相似文献

The chronological change of photosynthetic efficiency in a frozen storage treatment of the Japanese Nori cultivation industry was examined in the cultivated red alga, Pyropia yezoensis f. narawaensis (Saga‐#5 Strain, Bangiales) by using pulse‐amplitude fluorometry. During the desiccation process that was conducted after the nursery cultivation season in November, the maximum quantum yield (F v/F m) of the gametophytic sporelings growing on the Nori‐net decreased monotonically with decreasing absolute water content (AWC), and was around 0.1 at 20% AWC. During frozen storage of the Nori‐net, the F v/F m of the frozen gametophyte was low but stable, and ranged between 0.10 ± 0.02 SD and 0.14 ± 0.05 SD. The magnitude of F v/F m for the gametophyte of the freezing treatment, after 10 min and 3 h of immersion in seawater, recovered quickly. After 10 min and 3 h of immersion, these values were 0.29 ± 0.12 SD and 0.47 ± 0.05 SD during the 14 days of freezing treatment, and 0.15 ± 0.02 SD and 0.29 ± 0.04 SD after 71 days of freezing treatment, and suggest that the ability to recover gradually decreased as the storage duration increased. The response of F v/F m from general cultivation (i.e., directly cultivated from the nursery cultivation season) and those after 47 days of freezing were almost identical, suggesting that the current Nori net frozen storage period (6 or 7 weeks) was not detrimental to the gametophyte.  相似文献

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the effects of graded levels of choline addition (0, 500, 1000 and 4000 mg/kg diet) in laying hen diets prepared either with degummed or refined rape oil on the performance, sensory properties and trimethylamine (TMA) contents of the eggs. Furthermore, the diets containing no supplemented choline or 4000 mg choline/kg diet were tested with adequate or inadequate methionine supply (4.2 vs. 2.8 g methionine/kg diet). TMA metabolism and N-balance were measured for the latter diet types, but only with the diets containing refined rape oil. Therefore, a total of 12 and 4 diets were tested in the feeding (n = 60) and balance study (n = 9). Laying performance (23 – 75 weeks of age) was not significantly influenced by increasing choline additions with the exception of feed-to-egg mass ratio which decreased significantly linearly (p linear = 0.003). However, a significant interaction between choline addition and laying month was detected which was caused by a depression of performance of the unsupplemented control group occurring from the sixth laying month. The most obvious effect of an inadequate methionine supply was a temporary drop in performance between the third and sixth laying months. The mean TMA-concentration in pooled egg yolks [μg/g] increased with dietary choline concentration [mg/kg] in an exponentially related fashion (y = 1.14 + 4E?10 ? x2.71, r2 = 0.962) and suggested only a minor influence of total dietary choline on TMA content up to approximately 2000 mg choline/kg. Individual TMA-concentrations varied greatly from 0.4 – 1.5 μg/g, from 2.2 – 34 μg/g and from 18.4 – 75 μg/g for eggs with a normal, aberrant and heavily aberrant odour, respectively. It is concluded that a total choline concentration of at least approximately 1500 mg/kg is necessary to maintain a maximal laying performance. An inadequate methionine supply cannot be compensated by an increased addition of choline. Neither degummed nor refined rape oil influenced the TMA content of eggs.  相似文献

Age and growth of Pinna bicolor were examined in the seagrass beds of Merambong shoal (N 1°19′55.62″; E 103°35′57.75″) off the south‐western coast of Johor, Peninsular Malaysia between May 2006 and April 2007. Monthly growth increment data of P. bicolor were analyzed using FiSAT software (FAO‐ICLARM Stock Assessment Tools) to estimate the asymptotic length (L) and growth coefficient (K). Average growth rate of P. bicolor was 1.42 (±0.01) cm per month; the estimated asymptotic length (L) and growth coefficient (K) were 34.66 cm and 0.88 per year, respectively. In their natural habitat, P. bicolor attain shell heights of approximately 17, 25 and 30 cm at the end of their first, second and third years of growth. The length–weight relationship was estimated as Log W = ?5.397 + 3.111Log L, and in exponential form the equation was W = 0.000004L3.111 (r2 = 0.99, P < 0.01). Habitat temperature and salinity ranged between 27.47 and 29.66°C and 28.66–33.00 ppt with a mean of 29.10 (±0.66) m°C and 30.52 (±1.41) ppt, respectively.  相似文献

Maximum sustained swimming speeds, swimming energetics and swimming kinematics were measured in the green jack Caranx caballus (Teleostei: Carangidae) using a 41 l temperature‐controlled, Brett‐type swimming‐tunnel respirometer. In individual C. caballus [mean ±s.d. of 22·1 ± 2·2 cm fork length (LF), 190 ± 61 g, n = 11] at 27·2 ± 0·7° C, mean critical speed (Ucrit) was 102·5 ± 13·7 cm s?1 or 4·6 ± 0·9 LF s?1. The maximum speed that was maintained for a 30 min period while swimming steadily using the slow, oxidative locomotor muscle (Umax,c) was 99·4 ± 14·4 cm s?1 or 4·5 ± 0·9 LF s?1. Oxygen consumption rate (M in mg O2 min?1) increased with swimming speed and with fish mass, but mass‐specific M (mg O2 kg?1 h?1) as a function of relative speed (LF s?1) did not vary significantly with fish size. Mean standard metabolic rate (RS) was 170 ± 38 mg O2 kg?1 h?1, and the mean ratio of M at Umax,c to RS, an estimate of factorial aerobic scope, was 3·6 ± 1·0. The optimal speed (Uopt), at which the gross cost of transport was a minimum of 2·14 J kg?1 m?1, was 3·8 LF s?1. In a subset of the fish studied (19·7–22·7 cm LF, 106–164 g, n = 5), the swimming kinematic variables of tailbeat frequency, yaw and stride length all increased significantly with swimming speed but not fish size, whereas tailbeat amplitude varied significantly with speed, fish mass and LF. The mean propulsive wavelength was 86·7 ± 5·6 %LF or 73·7 ± 5·2 %LT. Mean ±s.d . yaw and tailbeat amplitude values, calculated from lateral displacement of each intervertebral joint during a complete tailbeat cycle in three C. caballus (19·7, 21·6 and 22·7 cm LF; 23·4, 25·3 and 26·4 cm LT), were 4·6 ± 0·1 and 17·1 ± 2·2 %LT, respectively. Overall, the sustained swimming performance, energetics, kinematics, lateral displacement and intervertebral bending angles measured in C. caballus were similar to those of other active ectothermic fishes that have been studied, and C. caballus was more similar to the chub mackerel Scomber japonicus than to the kawakawa tuna Euthynnus affinis.  相似文献

The inhibitory effects of maté tea (MT), a beverage produced with leaves from Ilex paraguariensis, in vitro lipase activity and on obesity in obese mice models were examined. For the in vitro experiment, porcine and human pancreatic lipase (PL) activities were determined by measuring the rate of release of oleic acid from hydrolysis of olive oil emulsified with taurocholate, phospholipids, gum arabic, or polyvinyl alcohol. For the in vivo experiments, animals were fed with a standard diet (SD, n = 10) or high‐fat diet (HFD, n = 30) for 16 weeks. After the first 8 weeks on the HFD, the animals were treated with 1 and 2 g/kg of body weight of MT. The time course of the body weight and obesity‐related biochemical parameters were evaluated. The results showed that MT inhibited both porcine and human PL (half‐maximal inhibitory concentration = 1.5 mg MT/ml) and induced a strong inhibition of the porcine lipase activity in the hydrolysis of substrate emulsified with taurocholate + phosphatidylcholine (PC) (83 ± 3.8%) or PC alone (62 ± 4.3%). MT suppressed the increases in body weight (P < 0.05) and decreased the serum triglycerides and low‐density lipoprotein (LDL)‐cholesterol concentrations at both doses (from 190.3 ± 5.7 to 135.0 ± 8.9 mg/dl, from 189.1 ± 7.3 to 129.3 ± 17.6 mg/dl; P < 0.05, respectively) after they had been increased by the HFD. The liver lipid content was also decreased by the diet containing MT (from 132.6 ± 3.9 to 95.6 ± 6.1 mg/g of tissue; P < 0.05). These results suggest that MT could be a potentially therapeutic alternative in the treatment of obesity caused by a HFD.  相似文献

In order to evaluate the protein and energy requirement of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus) sub‐yearlings, eight experimental diets containing two protein levels (40% and 45%) and four lipid levels (10%, 15%, 20% and 25%) were tested. Sturgeons (W0 = 136.8 g) were fed the experimental diets to satiation four times daily for 150 days, resulting in a final mean weight of 375.8 g. Growth was significantly affected by lipid content of the diets. At 40% protein level, weight gain and specific growth rate (% per day) were significantly improved (P < 0.05) by increasing the dietary lipid (energy) content. Protein efficiency ratio (PER) was significantly affected by different dietary treatments for each dietary protein level tested, reaching a mean value of 3.58 in fish fed high lipid diets and a PER of 2.77 in low lipid diets. Results obtained in the present study suggest that the optimum dietary protein content for Persian sturgeon is 40%, with an estimated optimum protein‐to‐energy ratio of 18–20 mg kJ−1.  相似文献

A 10 week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different dietary soybean oil (SO) levels on growth performance, fatty‐acid composition and lipid deposition in viscera, histology and histochemistry of liver, intestine and hepatic‐lipid metabolism‐related gene expressions in pond loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus juveniles. Misgurnus anguillicaudatus (mean ± s.d. mass 0·40 ± 0·01 g) were fed five experimental diets containing SO at different concentrations: 0, 20, 32, 56 and 100% SO and a diet containing 100% fish oil (100% FO). The mass gains and specific growth rates of M. anguillicaudatus fed 20% SO and 100% FO diets were significantly higher than those of the other groups (P < 0·05). The lipid content of viscera and the amount of cytoplasmic vacuolation in the liver increased with incremental dietary SO level. Meanwhile, increasing dietary SO levels up‐regulated the messenger (m)RNA levels of lipogenic genes (such as Δ6fad, scd, pparγ, fas and srebp‐1) and down‐regulated the mRNA levels of the lipolytic genes (such as pparα, cpt1, atgl and hsl) in the liver. The percentage of 20:4n‐6 significantly (P < 0·05) increased with increasing dietary SO level, which might be correlated with the up‐regulation of the mRNA level of Δ6fad. The highest levels of dietary SO, however, had a negative effect on growth performance, lipid deposition of viscera and histology and histochemstry of liver and intestine. The increased lipid accumulation induced by incremental dietary SO level probably occurred through different strategies for lipid metabolism as a result of competition between lipolysis and lipogenesis and between export and import of lipids in this species.  相似文献

Introduction – Separation of polyphenolics in different plant materials using high‐performance thin‐layer chromatography (HPTLC) represents an effective method for their detection and quantification. Objective – To develop a simple, specific, precise, sensitive and accurate method for the simultaneous quantification of tiliroside (TRS), methyl brevifolincarboxylate (MBR) and ellagic acid (EA) in a plant extract using the HPTLC‐photodensitometry method. Methodology – Aerial parts of the selected Potentilla species, P. anserina, P. erecta, P. grandiflora and P. nepalensis var. ‘Miss Willmott’, were extracted with methanol. After solvent evaporation, the methanolic extracts were diluted with water and successively partitioned between chloroform and then diethyl ether. The diethyl ether extracts from each sample were used for quantification. The analyses were performed on HPTLC precoated silica gel 60F254 plates with toluene–ethyl formate–formic acid (6 : 4 : 1 v/v/v) as the mobile phase (distance of 7.5 cm). Densitometric detections of TRS, MBR and EA were performed at 320, 287 and 280 nm, respectively. The amounts of these compounds were calculated using the regression equations of the calibration curves, which were linear within a range of 0.05–0.5 μg/spot (R2 = 0.9957) for TRS, 0.05–0.525 μg/spot (R2 = 0.9965) for MBR and 0.0525–0.5 μg/spot (R2 = 0.9998) for EA. Results – The amounts of marker compounds measured by the method developed are expressed in mg/g of dry extracts. TRS ranged from 20.3 ± 0.3 mg/g for P. erecta herbs to 197.7 ± 2.9 mg/g for P. grandiflora herbs; MBR ranged from 5.0 ± 0.6 mg/g for P. erecta herbs to 68.5 ± 3.4 mg/g for P. nepalensis flowers; and EA ranged from 24.0 ± 0.6 mg/g for P. erecta herbs to 216.2 ± 3.2 mg/g for P. anserina leaves. Conclusion – The proposed method was found to be relatively simple, specific, precise, sensitive and accurate and may be used for the routine assay of simultaneous determination of TRS, MBR and EA in other extracts and phytomedicines containing Potentilla species. Nicotinamide N‐methyltransferase (NNMT) plays a central role in cellular metabolism, regulating pathways including epigenetic regulation, cell signalling, and energy production. Our previous studies have shown that the expression of NNMT in the human neuroblastoma cell line SH‐SY5Y increased complex I activity and subsequent ATP synthesis. This increase in ATP synthesis was lower than the increase in complex I activity, suggesting uncoupling of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. We, therefore, hypothesised that pathways that reduce oxidative stress are also increased in NNMT‐expressing SH‐Y5Y cells. The expression of uncoupling protein‐2 messenger RNA and protein were significantly increased in NNMT‐expressing cells (57% ± 5.2% and 20.1% ± 1.5%, respectively; P = .001 for both). Total GSH (22 ± 0.3 vs 35.6 ± 1.1 nmol/mg protein), free GSH (21.9 ± 0.2 vs 33.5 ± 1 nmol/mg protein), and GSSG (0.6 ± 0.02 vs 1 ± 0.05 nmol/mg protein; P = .001 for all) concentrations were significantly increased in NNMT‐expressing cells, whereas the GSH:GSSG ratio was decreased (39.4 ± 1.8 vs 32.3 ± 2.5; P = .02). Finally, reactive oxygen species (ROS) content was decreased in NNMT‐expressing cells (0.3 ± 0.08 vs 0.12 ± 0.03; P = .039), as was the concentration of 8‐isoprostane F2α (200 ± 11.5 vs 45 ± 2.6 pg/mg protein; P = .0012). Taken together, these results suggest that NNMT expression reduced ROS generation and subsequent lipid peroxidation by uncoupling the mitochondrial membrane potential and increasing GSH buffering capacity, most likely to compensate for increased complex I activity and ATP production.  相似文献

Effect of salinity (15, 25, 35, 45, and 55‰) on growth, biochemical composition, and lipid productivity of Nannochloropsis oculata CS 179 was investigated under controlled cultivation in a 19‐day study. The results demonstrate that the dry biomass of N. oculata was the highest at a salinity of 25‰ among the treatments in the first 10‐day cultivation (P<0.05). During days 14–19 (stage III), the dry biomass productivity was the highest at a salinity of 35‰ (P<0.05). The algae had the highest chlorophyll a content (26.47 mg g?1) at 25‰ in stage I, and it decreased continuously at stage III. Protein content (as% of dry biomass) of algae reached the highest value of 42.25 ± 2.10% at 15‰, and the lipid content was the highest of 32.11 ± 1.30% of dry biomass at 25‰. However, the lipid productivity of these algae was the highest at 35‰ (64.71 mg L?1 d?1; P<0.001). C16 series content was the highest among the total fatty acid methyl esters (FAME), and eicosapentaenoic acid C20:5n‐3 (EPA) content was high at the low salinity. The primary aim of our study was to determine the influence of taking chromium plus carnitine on insulin resistance, with a secondary objective of evaluating the influences on lipid profiles and weight loss in overweight subjects with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In a 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 54 overweight women were randomly assigned to receive either supplements (200 μg/day chromium picolinate plus 1000 mg/day carnitine) or placebo (27/each group). Chromium and carnitine co-supplementation decreased weight (− 3.6 ± 1.8 vs. − 1.0 ± 0.7 kg, P < 0.001), BMI (− 1.3 ± 0.7 vs. − 0.3 ± 0.3 kg/m2, P < 0.001), fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (− 5.1 ± 6.0 vs. − 1.1 ± 4.9 mg/dL, P = 0.01), insulin (− 2.0 ± 1.4 vs. − 0.2 ± 1.2 μIU/mL, P < 0.001), insulin resistance (− 0.5 ± 0.4 vs. − 0.04 ± 0.3, P < 0.001), triglycerides (− 18.0 ± 25.2 vs. + 5.5 ± 14.4 mg/dL, P < 0.001), total (− 17.0 ± 20.3 vs. + 3.6 ± 12.0 mg/dL, P < 0.001), and LDL cholesterol (− 13.3 ± 19.2 vs. + 1.4 ± 13.3 mg/dL, P = 0.002), and elevated insulin sensitivity (+ 0.007 ± 0.005 vs. + 0.002 ± 0.005, P < 0.001). In addition, co-supplementation upregulated peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (P = 0.02) and low-density lipoprotein receptor expression (P = 0.02). Overall, chromium and carnitine co-supplementation for 12 weeks to overweight women with PCOS had beneficial effects on body weight, glycemic control, lipid profiles except HDL cholesterol levels, and gene expression of PPAR-γ and LDLR. This study was conducted to create a nutritional database on brown seaweeds and to popularize their consumption and utilization in Iran. The fatty acid contents, amino acids profiles, and certain mineral elements composition of some brown seaweeds, Padina pavonica (L.) Thivy, Dictyota dichotoma (Huds.) J. V. Lamour., and Colpomenia sinuosa (Mert. ex Roth) Derbés et Solier were determined. Total lipid content ranged from 1.46 ± 0.38 to 2.94 ± 0.94 g · 100 g?1dry weight (dwt), and the most abundant fatty acids were C16:0, C18:1, C20:4 ω6, and C20:5 ω3. The unsaturated fatty acids predominated in all species and had balanced sources of ω3 and ω6 acids. Highest total polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) levels occurred in C. sinuosa. The protein content of D. dichotoma was 17.73 ± 0.29 g · 100 g?1dwt, significantly higher than the other seaweeds examined. Among amino acids essential to human nutrition, methionine (Met; in D. dichotoma and P. pavonica) and lysine (Lys; in C. sinuosa) were present in high concentrations. The crude fiber content varied by 9.5 ± 11.6 g · 100 g?1dwt in all species. Chemical analysis indicated that ash content was between 27.02 ± 0.6 and 39.28 ± 0.7 g · 100 g?1dwt, and that these seaweeds contained higher amounts of both macrominerals (7,308–9,160 mg · 100 g?1dwt; Na, K, Ca) and trace elements (263–1,594 mg · 100 g?1dwt; Fe, Ni, Mn, Cu, Co) than have been reported for edible land plants. C. sinuosa had the highest amount of Ca, Fe, and a considerable content of Na was measured in P. pavonica.  相似文献
