The tick Ixodes ricinus (L.) is the most important vector of tick‐borne zoonoses in Europe. Apart from factors related to human behavior, tick abundance is a major driver of the incidence of tick‐borne diseases in a given area and related data represent critical information for promoting effective public health policies. The present study analyzed the relationship between different environmental factors and tick abundance in order to improve the understanding of I. ricinus autecology and develop spatial predictive models that can be implemented in tick‐borne disease prevention strategies. Ticks were sampled in 27 sites over a four‐year period and different environmental variables were studied. Five simple models were developed that explain a large part of variation in tick abundance. Precipitation seems to play the most important role, followed by temperature, woodland coverage, and solar radiation. Model equations obtained in this study may enable the spatial interpolation and extension of tick abundance predicted values to sites of the same area, in order to build regional predictive maps. They could also be useful for the validation of large‐scale spatial predictive maps.  相似文献

在建立植物生态生理模型(如光合作用、蒸腾作用数理模型)的过程中,气温、太阳辐射、相对湿度等气象要素的日变化及瞬时资料是必不可少的.本文根据常规台站的日常观测资料,建立了气温、太阳辐射、风速、相对湿度等气象要素日变化的数理模型.并应用实测资料对所建模型进行了验证.实践表明:(1)描述气温日变化的正弦一指数模型通常其模拟结果不甚理想,但通过引用最高温度的时间延迟参数及惯性系数,可增加模拟结果的准确性.(2)根据测量的太阳辐射日总量值以及太阳高度的日变化值等,可准确地模拟太阳辐射的日变化;(3)根据实际水汽压的日均值和气温常规资料可准确模拟相对湿度的日变化.如果区域参数已知或被正确估计。上述方法可得到较为理想的气象要素日变化的模拟结果.  相似文献

The environmental stress index (ESI), constructed from ambient temperature, relative humidity, and solar radiation, was further evaluated from databases collected in Israel and New Zealand. High correlations were found between ESI and WBGT (R2=0.959 and R2=0.973 for Israel and New Zealand, respectively). However, for the New Zealand database, residuals were not distributed symmetrically around the zero line, which might be due to the difference in the global radiation spectrum. The ultraviolet radiation measurements were significantly higher in New Zealand than in Israel. As a consequence, a correction factor might be needed for ESI to be used in the southern hemisphere.  相似文献

The cyanobacterial crust occurring in desiccated state exposed to high temperature and solar radiation on the rock surface contained several low molecular mass (LMM) proteins (10.5, 13, and 25 kDa), water stress protein (wsp, 39 kDa), additional proteins (43 and 49 kDa), a chaperonin (58 kDa), and a stress-induced protein (84 kDa). When the crust was exposed to UV-C radiation, it counteracted the UV-B damage by overproduction of certain proteins and synthesis of two high molecular mass (HMM) proteins. Exposure of the crust to heat had an adverse effect on the survival of the organism there-in which was due to repression of few proteins. Unlike the modification pattern of protein synthesis in the cyanobacterium inhabiting the crust, the same organism grown in culture could tolerate heat by synthesizing two HMM proteins. Several proteins of diverse groups were repressed in the cyanobacterium in culture upon exposure to UV-C, which was counteracted by induction of three new polypeptides (chaperonin and HMMs), and overproduction of one 41 kDa protein. This study evaluated the impact of the thermal environment on the flying behavior of male Japanese sulfur butterflies Colias erate searching for females in an open habitat. Thoracic temperature was monitored before and after flight. Mean thoracic temperature of butterflies immediately after landing was consistently higher than, but independent of, ambient temperature. Although ground speed of flying butterflies was different between flight types, air speed against the butterfly was similar across flight types. The excess of thoracic over ambient temperature was lower in flying butterflies than in basking ones, as predicted by a model. This difference appeared to be due to air current, which enhanced heat loss. In a laboratory study, newly eclosed male butterflies were placed under an incandescent lamp to measure their thoracic temperature at different air current speeds. The excess of thoracic over ambient temperature decreased as the speed of air currents increased. When the air current was similar to the air speed against flying butterflies in the field, a substantial decrease occurred in the operative thoracic temperature.  相似文献

In higher plants one of the important functions of the leaf epidermis is the effective screening of ultraviolet-B (280–320 nm, UV-B) radiation, due mostly to phenolic compounds. The assessment of the contribution of this function is necessary for an evaluation of the impact of increasing UV-B radiation. A method is proposed to estimate epidermal transmittance on the basis of chlorophyll fluorescence measurements. Fluorescence of chlorophyll induced by UV-A (320–400 nm, measuring beam centered at 366 nm, half band width 32 nm) or UV-B (measuring beam centered at 314 nm, half band width 18 nm) is compared to that induced by a blue-green measuring light (475 nm, half band width 140 nm). It is shown that the ratios of UV-and blue-green (BG)-induced fluorescence, F(UV-A)/F(BG) and F(UV-B)/F(BG), are relatively constant among leaf samples of various species ( Vicia faba, Spinacia oleracea, Rumex scutatus ) from which the epidermis was removed. In epidermis-free leaves no significant differences were found between adaxial and abaxial leaf sides, suggesting that leaf structure has negligible influence on the F(UV)/F(BG) ratios. On the other hand, fluorescence excitation ratios varied over a vast range when intact leaves from different species and habitats were investigated. Ratios were low in sun leaves and relatively high in shade- and greenhouse-grown leaves. By relating these results to those obtained with epidermis-free leaves, epidermal transmittances for UV-B radiation could be estimated, with values ranging between 1 and 45%. The data demonstrate a large adaptability of epidermal UV-A and UV-B transmittance in higher plants. The proposed method may prove a versatile and relatively simple tool for investigating epidermal UV transmittance complementing established methods.  相似文献

There are several experimental reports that have demonstrated a remarkable increase in conduction of ions along the interface between water and a polar-lipid monolayer as contrasted with that in a bulk-water phase. A simple model was developed for the collective ionic modes of a charged spherical membrane that takes the increase into account. Starting from the hydrodynamic equations for surface ions inside and outside a cell, the dispersion relation for intrinsic cellular electrical oscillations was obtained. Properties were calculated for surface-plasmon modes as well as for a resonant response of a charged membrane bilayer to microwave pumping. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

Five food-deprived rhesus monkeys were exposed to 225-MHz continuous-wave, and 1.3-GHz, and 5.8-GHz pulsed radiation to determine the minimal power densities affecting performance. The monkeys were trained to press a lever (observing-response) thereby producing signals that indicated availability of food. In the presence of the aperiodically appearing food signals, a detection response on a different lever was reinforced by a food pellet. Continuous, stable responding during 60-min sessions developed and was followed by repeated exposures to radiofrequency radiation. The subjects, restrained in a Styrofoam chair, were exposed to free-field radiation while performing the task. Colonic temperature was simultaneously obtained. Observing-response performance was impaired at increasingly higher power densities as frequency increased from the near-resonance 225 MHz to the above-resonance 5.8 GHz. The threshold power density of disrupted response rate at 225 MHz was 8.1 mW/cm2; at 1.3 GHz it was 57 mW/cm2, and at 5.8 GHz it was 140 mW/cm2. These power densities were associated with reliable increases in colonic temperatures above sham-exposure levels. The mean increase was typically in the range of 1°C, and response-rate changes were not observed in the absence of concomitant temperature increases. In these experiments increase of colonic temperature was a much better predictor of behavioral disruption than was either the power density of the incident field or estimates of whole-body-averaged rates of energy absorption.  相似文献

Rapid increases in taxonomic diversity are generally described as adaptive or evolutionary radiations. Such radiations differ widely in the rate and extent of morphologic innovation, taxonomic diversification and phylogenetic breadth, suggesting that several patterns, and likely processes, are involved. At least four distinct patterns of evolutionary radiation can be identified: novelty events, which generate new morphological complexity (altering the body plan of the group under consideration) but not necessarily with the associated production of many lower taxa; broad diversification events involving many independent lineages that undergo diversification, generate many new species and are driven by new ecological opportunities; economic radiations of a limited group of ecologically (but not necessarily phylogenetically) related clades exploiting a limited new ecologic opportunity; and adaptive radiations that may occur at any taxonomic level, but involve a rapid increase in diversity within a single clade, including “true”; adaptive radiations. Many events produce simple diversity increases with no corresponding increase in genetic/developmental/morphological/behavioral sophistication, but the most evolutionarily interesting events add new levels of complexity.  相似文献

We have applied a non‐contact method for studying the temperature changes produced by radiofrequency (RF) radiation specifically to small biological samples. A temperature‐dependent fluorescent dye, Rhodamine B, as imaged by laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM) was used to do this. The results were calibrated against real‐time temperature measurements from fiber optic probes, with a calibration factor of 3.4% intensity change °C?1 and a reproducibility of ±6%. This non‐contact method provided two‐dimensional and three‐dimensional images of temperature change and distributions in biological samples, at a spatial resolution of a few micrometers and with an estimated absolute precision of around 1.5 °C, with a differential precision of 0.4 °C. Temperature rise within tissue was found to be non‐uniform. Estimates of specific absorption rate (SAR) from absorbed power measurements were greater than those estimated from rate of temperature rise, measured at 1 min intervals, probably because this interval is too long to permit accurate estimation of initial temperature rise following start of RF exposure. Gross primary production (GPP) by terrestrial ecosystems is a key quantity in the global carbon cycle. The instantaneous controls of leaf-level photosynthesis are well established, but there is still no consensus on the mechanisms by which canopy-level GPP depends on spatial and temporal variation in the environment. The standard model of photosynthesis provides a robust mechanistic representation for C3 species; however, additional assumptions are required to “scale up” from leaf to canopy. As a consequence, competing models make inconsistent predictions about how GPP will respond to continuing environmental change. This problem is addressed here by means of an empirical analysis of the light use efficiency (LUE) of GPP inferred from eddy covariance carbon dioxide flux measurements, in situ measurements of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), and remotely sensed estimates of the fraction of PAR (fAPAR) absorbed by the vegetation canopy. Focusing on LUE allows potential drivers of GPP to be separated from its overriding dependence on light. GPP data from over 100 sites, collated over 20 years and located in a range of biomes and climate zones, were extracted from the FLUXNET2015 database and combined with remotely sensed fAPAR data to estimate daily LUE. Daytime air temperature, vapor pressure deficit, diffuse fraction of solar radiation, and soil moisture were shown to be salient predictors of LUE in a generalized linear mixed-effects model. The same model design was fitted to site-based LUE estimates generated by 16 terrestrial ecosystem models. The published models showed wide variation in the shape, the strength, and even the sign of the environmental effects on modeled LUE. These findings highlight important model deficiencies and suggest a need to progress beyond simple “goodness of fit” comparisons of inferred and predicted carbon fluxes toward an approach focused on the functional responses of the underlying dependencies.  相似文献

The data for solar radiation (S), air temperature (Ta), surface water temperature (Tw) and pH recorded at 0.5 hr intervals at Slapy Reservoir were subject to spectral analysis. The complete series covered the month of July 1978, where three characteristic sections were distinguished, of which one was characterized by low variations, more irregular values and a slowly decreasing trend and another with high and regular variations as well as a steeply increasing trend. These sections were analysed separately in addition to the complete series. The period of 24 hrs was most important and represented for S, Ta and pH 60, 38 and 18 % of the total variances, respectively. The deterministic periodic component represented 65–95 % of the total variance. The cross-correlation and cross-covariance between selected pairs of variables suggested lags of up to 4.5 hrs, the longest lag being observed for Tw and S. An autoregressive model of the interrelation between the signals was formulated.  相似文献

This study investigated the physiological function of suppressed melatonin through thermoregulation in a cold environment. Interactions between thermoregulation directly affected by exposure to a cold environment and indirectly affected by endogenous melatonin suppression by bright-light exposure were examined. Ten male subjects were exposed to two different illumination intensities (30 and 5000 lux) for 4.5?h, and two different ambient temperatures (15 and 27°C) for 2?h before sleep under dark and thermoneutral conditions. Salivary melatonin level was suppressed by bright light (p?<?0.001), although the ambient temperature condition had no significant effect on melatonin. During sleep, significant effects of pre-sleep exposure to a cold ambient temperature (p?<?0.001) and bright light (p?<?0.01) on rectal temperature (Tre) were observed. Pre-sleep, bright-light exposure led to an attenuated fall in Tre during sleep. Moreover, Tre dropped more precipitously after cold exposure than thermoneutral conditions (cold: ?0.54?±?0.07°C/h; thermoneutral: ?0.16?±?0.03°C/h; p?<?0.001). Pre-sleep, bright-light exposure delayed the nadir time of Tre under thermoneutral conditions (p?<?0.05), while cold exposure masked the circadian rhythm with a precipitous decrease in Tre. A significant correlation between the Tre nadir and melatonin level (r?=??0.774, p?<?0.05) indicated that inter-individual differences with higher melatonin levels lead to a reduction in Tre after cold exposure. The objectives of the study were to first characterize a new covering system that allows the temperature inside the biopiles to be maintained at a level where biodeg-radation can take place despite unfavorable climatic conditions, and then second to develop a mathematical simulation of the biopile temperature profile knowing local meteorological conditions and the covering system used. A field study was undertaken with four 60?m3 biopiles of contaminated soil. The performance of conventional semipermeable black geotextile was compared with that of two sealed double polyethylene membrane systems (a white/white and a black/translucid polyethylene membrane). Heat transfer was favored or restricted by choosing the color of the polyethylene membranes and by the presence of an insulating air layer between the two polyethylene membranes. Results showed that the air layer allowed to increase soil temperature up to a range that could enhance biodegradation. For example, the biopile temperature was maintained above 10°C during fall conditions using the double membrane system, while it remained between of 5 to 10°C when using the conventional black geotextile. The white/white polyethylene membrane was considered to be the covering system offering the best performance because it allowed not only the temperature level to increase during fall conditions but also to reduce the temperature gradient within the biopile. A mathematical model describing the temperature profile within a biopile was developed, taking into account soil thermal properties, covering material properties, and local meteorological conditions. Close agreements between simulation results and actual measurements were found with maximum deviation within 2°C. This validated model can now be used to predict thermal profiles within biopiles without costly tests on site.  相似文献

We have developed, and herein describe, a simple, open-loop model in the rat, in which both skin and hypothalamic temperatures can be modified and clamped. A water-perfused thermode was positioned in the abdomen to drive hypothalamic temperature, and a water-perfused jacket was used to clamp skin temperature. These permitted the independent control of hypothalamic and skin temperatures. The former could be altered between 35 and 41 °C whilst achieving an isothermal skin temperature clamp. Similarly, skin temperature could be modified between 22 and 42 °C whilst hypothalamic temperature was clamped. Maximal hypothalamic heating and cooling rates were: 0.75 and −2.04 °C h−1 100 g−1. We are currently using this animal model to investigate how central thermosensitivity is affected via manipulations of hypothalamic cooling rates.  相似文献

莲瓣兰是中国西南地区特有的兰科濒危物种。2013年和2014年8月至10月,在云南省西北地区选取了28个野生莲瓣兰居群进行野外调查。结果表明:野生莲瓣兰在滇西北海拔为1380—2557 m的区域均有分布;莲瓣兰叶片数、花葶长、花瓣长、花瓣宽、萼片长均与海拔呈显著负相关(P0.01)。与年平均气温呈正相关的形态指标有:叶长(P0.05),株高(P0.05),花葶长(P0.01)。与空气湿度呈显著正相关的形态指标有:叶宽(P0.05),株高(P0.05),花葶长(P0.05),叶长(P0.01)。随着野生莲瓣兰分布地海拔的升高,株型矮化,形态变小;年均温越高、空气湿度越大的分布地,莲瓣兰叶片越长、越宽,植株越高,花葶越长;分布地辐射强度越大,莲瓣兰叶片越短,植株越矮,根系越发达。野生莲瓣兰居群间的叶长、叶宽、株高、根长及花葶长度的变化较大,变异系数超过了15%,表明其存在着较大的形态变异,生态适应幅度变宽,且植株矮化严重,需加强就地和迁地保护。研究结果阐明了滇西北海拔、温度等生态因子对野生莲瓣兰形态特征的影响,为进一步保护野生莲瓣兰资源提供了理论依据。  相似文献

Solar energy, which is essential for the origin and evolution of all life forms on Earth, can be objectively recorded through attributes such as climatic ambient temperature (CAT), ultraviolet radiation (UVR), and sunlight duration (SD). These attributes have specific geographical variations and may cause different adaptation traits. However, the adaptation profile of each attribute and the selective role of solar energy as a whole during human evolution remain elusive. Here, we performed a genome-wide adaptation study with respect to CAT, UVR, and SD using the Human Genome Diversity Project-Centre Etude Polymorphism Humain (HGDP-CEPH) panel data. We singled out CAT as the most important driving force with the highest number of adaptive loci (6 SNPs at the genome-wide 1 × 10−7 level; 401 at the suggestive 1 × 10−5 level). Five of the six genome-wide significant adaptation SNPs were successfully replicated in an independent Chinese population (N = 1395). The corresponding 316 CAT adaptation genes were mostly involved in development and immunity. In addition, 265 (84%) genes were related to at least one genome-wide association study (GWAS)-mapped human trait, being significantly enriched in anthropometric loci such as those associated with body mass index (χ2; P < 0.005), immunity, metabolic syndrome, and cancer (χ2; P < 0.05). For these adaptive SNPs, balancing selection was evident in Euro-Asians, whereas obvious positive and/or purifying selection was observed in Africans. Taken together, our study indicates that CAT is the most important attribute of solar energy that has driven genetic adaptation in development and immunity among global human populations. It also supports the non-neutral hypothesis for the origin of disease-predisposition alleles in common diseases.  相似文献

1. Ultraviolet radiation (UV) is an important stressor for zooplankton in alpine lake ecosystems. Multiple environmental variables such as dissolved organic matter (DOM), temperature and nutrient availability may alter how UV affects zooplankton. 2. We conducted a week‐long experiment manipulating UV, nutrients and DOM in enclosures suspended at the surface of cold and warm alpine lakes to determine the interactive effects of these variables on ovigerous Leptodiaptomus ashlandi (Marsh, 1893), a calanoid copepod. 3. UV had a negative effect on nauplii and gravid females at the colder temperature and at low, ambient DOM levels, but had no effect at the warmer temperature or when DOM was added. At the warmer temperature, fewer nauplii were produced in the +nutrient compared to ?nutrient treatment. Adult survival was not affected by UV or any other experimental variable. 4. These results demonstrate that the extent of the impact of UV radiation on zooplankton in alpine systems is altered by other environmental variables, and that these effects may not be apparent from experiments that look only at the survival of adult organisms that are better defended against UV.  相似文献
