The anaerobic metabolism of Mytilus edulis, Cardium edule, Scrobicularia plana and Macoma balthica was investigated. On exposure to the atmosphere, all of these species were found to be able to utilise 14CO2. This suggests that these species gape during exposure to the atmosphere. A comparative study on the pattern of 14C incorporation suggests that there is a similarity between M. edulis and S. plana in the extent of the utilization of the succinate pathway during exposure to air. However C. edule and M. balthica were also similar in the extent of utilizing the succinate pathway, even though there were significant species differences between the similar animals. It is suggested that exposure in S. plana represents a stressful situation and that this species might react to this stress by utilizing the succinate pathway. A higher incorporation of radiocarbon into alanine by M. balthica could be due to high activity of the enzymes that control the reactions leading to production of radioactive pyruvate.  相似文献

Temperature is one of the most important abiotic factors affected by climate change. It determines physiological processes, ecological patterns and establishes the limits of geographic distribution of species. The induced thermal stress frequently results in physiological and behavioral responses and, in extreme cases, may lead to mortality episodes. Scrobicularia plana and Cerastoderma edule behavioral and mortality responses to temperature were evaluated. Specimens were sampled in the Mondego estuary (Portugal), acclimated and exposed to different temperature treatments (5–35 °C). Individual activity and mortality were registered during 120 h laboratory assays. Both species showed a thermal optimum for their activity (S. plana: 15–23 °C; C. edule: 20–23 °C), and survival was mainly affected by high temperature (S. plana: LC50120 h = 28.86 °C; C. edule: LC50120 h = 28.01 °C), with 100% mortality above critical values (≥32 °C). Results further indicated that both species are more affected the higher the temperature and the longer the exposure time. This study indicates that the occurrence of extreme climatic events, especially heat waves, may be particularly impairing for these species.  相似文献

A study is described concerning the infestation of a laboratory-reared Daphnia magna culture by the fungus Aphanomyces daphniae. The origin of this fungus is Lake Huron, Michigan, the water from which is used in the laboratory to culture daphnids and maintain fishes for toxicological testing. Infestations originate from the Lake during the autumnal and vernal homothermal periods. The fungus is apparently maintained in the laboratory in conjunction with the fishes. Onset of fungal infestations in zooplankton culture apparently is initiated by three types of stress: rising temperatures, declining dissolved oxygen values, and poor nutrition. These infections have been eliminated by separating the daphnid culturing facility from the fish facility, substituting an algal diet for a synthetic one, sterilizing all water, air, and glassware connected with zooplankton culture, and maintaining the daphnids in a constant temperature room with controlled dissolved oxygen levels in the culturing vessels.  相似文献

The influence of global climate change will potentially alter the salinity of aquatic ecosystems. This represents a tremendous challenge for societies worldwide. Different sources of salinization (natural or anthropogenic) amplify the introduction of salt in rivers and streams, causing an increase of salt flowing down to estuarine and coastal areas. In this study, Corbicula fluminea and Scrobicularia plana have been selected because of their large tolerance for salinity variation (euryhaline organisms). They will allow the study of effect on the whole spectrum of salinity from fresh to marine waters respectively. The aim was to study the impact of experimental salinity stress at physiological, biochemical and behavioral levels by exposing both species to a salinity close to their limit range of tolerance, 15 practical salinity unit (psu), and at their field salinity (1.5 psu and 30 psu for C. fluminea and S. plana respectively) in the presence or absence of food during 2 and 7 days of exposure. Negative impacts of hyper saline condition for C. fluminea (15 psu) and hypo saline condition for S. plana (15 psu) have been measured at biochemical, physiological and behavioral levels. At sub-individual and individual levels, structural and energetic parameters and behavioral impairments seemed to be suitable biomarkers to assess salinity stress on C. fluminea and S.plana. After exposure to the limit of salinity tolerance (15psu) for both organisms, fitness modifications could appear, and may participate in endangering populations.  相似文献

Hexane extracts of some algae belonging to the Dictyotales collected over a 12 month period were tested for their antifungal activity using human pathogenic fungi (yeasts, moulds and dermatophytes) and phytopathogenic fungi responsible for diseases in Mediterranean plants and trees. The three algal species tested (Dictyota dichotoma, Dictyota dichotoma var. implexa, Dilophus spiralis) exhibited a wide spectrum of antifungal activity which varied during the seasons.  相似文献

The seasonal variations in the amounts of C6-volatile components cis-3-hexenal trans-2-hexenal n-hexanal) and their precursors (linoleic and linolenic acid) in homogenates of Thea sinensis leaves were quantitatively analyzed throughout the year. Formation of trans-2-hexenal began in the middle of April and reached a maximum during July. Towards autumn the aldehyde gradually decreased and, in winter (December to March), was virtually absent. The levels of cis-3-hexenol remained constant during May–December. cis-3-Hexenal showed a similar variation pattern to that of trans-2-hexenal. The major fatty acids in the leaves were palmitic, palmitoleic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic acid, and occurred in non-ionic lipids and phospholipid fractions. The amounts of linoleic and linolenic acid did not show any marked variation except for a big peak in October.  相似文献

To explore the heat and cold adaptation in Indian goats by the physiological, haematological, blood biochemical parameters and their seasonal variations, this study was conducted on heat- and cold-adapted Indian goats maintained in their natural habitat. Study was carried out in three different phases coincide with the three seasons (winter, spring and summer). The levels of physiological responses, that is rectal temperature, respiration rate and pulse rate, were observed to be significantly (p < 0.01) lower in heat-adapted breeds and higher in cold-adapted breeds, whereas the levels of Hb, PCV and TEC were significantly (p < 0.01) higher in cold-adapted goats. Significantly (p < 0.01) higher levels of plasma thyroid hormones (thyroxine and triiodothyronine) and plasma stress enzyme (AST and ALT) were also observed in cold-adapted goats. Significant (p < 0.01) seasonal variations in physiological responses, haematological and blood biochemical parameters in both heat- and cold-adapted breeds were reported in this study. Physiological responses, plasma enzymes and plasma cortisol levels significantly (p < 0.01) increased during summer in all the goat breeds. The levels of haematological parameters (Hb, PCV, TEC and TLC) and plasma thyroid hormones (thyroxine and triiodothyronine) decreased during summer. The changes in physiological parameters during summer due to heat stress were higher in cold-adapted goats whereas the levels of changes in these parameters during winter due to cold were higher in heat-adapted goats. High neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio during summer in cold-adapted breeds is an indicator of higher level of stress. Decrease in plasma electrolytes (Na and K) during summer also observed in cold-adapted breeds during summer. The variations in physiological, haematological, blood biochemical parameters in heat- and cold-adapted goats may be due to their adaptation to different environmental and geographical conditions essential for their survival.  相似文献

This article concerns seasonal variations in the phosphate concentrations in two coastal lagoons near Montpellier (Mediterranean coast, France). The o-P concentration in the overlying water is highest during summer. The role of the sediment, particularly that of the different P fractions in the sediment, is discussed. Significant variations, especially in the FeOOH ≈ P fraction, occur. For both Tot-Psed and the Fe00H≈P fraction a gradient from surface to bottom is observed, as well as a distinct decrease in the FeOOH≈P fraction in the surface sediments during summer and autumn. Variations in the FeOOH≈P fraction appear to be compensated by variations in the CaC03≈P fraction. These variations appear to be determined by the ferric hydroxide concentration. This compound represents only a small part (maximally 15%) of the total iron in the sediments and is related to the dissolved oxygen content of the immediately overlying water. Besides the fractions o-P, Fe(OOH)≈P, a large part of the CaC03≈P fraction is potentially bioavailable. A large proportion of the Tot-Psed is therefore bioavailable.[/p]  相似文献

动态平衡理论是生态化学计量学的理论基础, 各种有机体是否存在一个固定的化学计量比是生态学研究的热点问题。该文研究了杭州湾滨海湿地3种优势物种海三棱藨草(Scirpus mariqueter)、糙叶薹草(Carex scabrifolia)和芦苇(Phragmites australis)叶片N、P生态化学计量特征的季节变化。结果发现, 3种植物叶片N含量范围分别是7.41-17.12、7.47-13.15和6.03-18.09 mg·g-1, 平均值(±标准差)分别为(11.69 ± 2.66)、(10.17 ± 1.53)和(11.56 ± 3.19) mg·g-1; 叶片P范围分别是0.34-2.60、0.41-1.10和0.35-2.04 mg·g-1, 平均值为(0.93 ± 0.62)、(0.74 ± 0.23)和(0.82 ± 0.53) mg·g-1; N:P范围分别是7.19-30.63、11.58-16.81和8.62-21.86, 平均值为16.83 ± 8.31、14.53 ± 3.91和16.49 ± 5.51, 可见不同植物其生态化学计量值范围存在一定差异, 但经方差分析发现3种草本植物间生长季节内N、P元素含量差异并不显著(p > 0.05)。各物种叶片N、P含量均表现出在生长初期显著大于其他生长季节(p < 0.05), 生长旺季(6、7月)随着叶片生物量的持续增加, N、P含量逐渐降低并达到最小值, 随后8-9月叶片不再生长而N、P含量逐渐回升, 在10月叶片衰老时N、P含量再次下降; 叶片N:P则在生长初期较小, 在生长旺季先升高后降低, 随后叶片成熟不再生长时又逐渐增加并趋于稳定。  相似文献

Seasonal variations of soil organic matter (SOM) were studied in the unfertilized plot (U) and in the NPK+farmyard manure plot (NPK+FYM) of the 88-year-old ‘Static Experiment’ at Bad Lauchstädt (Germany). Decreases in the C concentrations by 0.24% (U) and 0.43% (NPK+FYM) between June and August were observed which were significant at the p < 0.01 level. The largest differences in N concentrations were 0.035% (U: August vs. September) and 0.029% (NPK+FYM: April vs. May). The C/N ratios were lowest in July and August (~12). The seasonal variations of SOM contents were reflected in significant differences in the C concentrations of organo-mineral particle-size fractions. The proportions of soil C, associated with clay increased from 56% and 38% in April to 69% and 48% in October in the untreated and NPK+FYM-treated plot, respectively. Pyrolysis-field ionization mass spectra of whole soil samples taken in June and August showed larger differences in the molecular composition of SOM in the untreated plot than in the NPK+FYM plot. On the basis of thermograms for six important compound classes of SOM, seasonal variations in (a) their amounts and (b) their incorporation in thermally different stable humic and/or organo-mineral bonds were visualized. Within four weeks of a net mineralization of SOM, portions of phenols, lignin monomers, lignin dimers, alkylaromatics, lipids, N-containing compounds and carbohydrates reached a higher thermal stability, which can be explained by advanced crosslinking. These results represent the first application of this novel methodology to the subtle and difficult problem of seasonal SOM variations.  相似文献

The relationships between concentrations (g/g of tissue) and content (g/organ) of the metals Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, and Cd with seasonal changes in the weight of the hepatopancreas in the Japanese scallop Mizuhopecten yessoensis are studied. It is shown that, during a year, the weight of the hepatopancreas in the mollusk shows significant (more than twofold) changes. A positive correlation is revealed between the seasonal changes in the concentrations of the physiologically important metals Fe, Zn, Cu, and Mn and the weight of this organ, although no general consistent pattern of seasonal variability in the metal concentrations is found. For toxic Cd, a negative correlation is found between its concentration and the weight of the hepatopancreas.  相似文献

Three different molecular weight fractions of fulvic acid from Tjeukemeer, sampled monthly between January and September 1978, were studied by Curie-point pyrolysis-mass spectrometry. The winter samples apparently differed markedly in composition from the summer samples. These differences, which were particularly striking in the pyrograms of the high molecular weight fraction, can be explained in terms of fragment molecules attributable to polysaccharides, proteins and/or phenolic polymers.  相似文献

Seasonal variations in energy content of liver. gonads and muscle, and the condition factor (K) of mature hake, were investigated. High energy content values were found in the liver after spawning and during thegonadal restingperiod. Lowenergycontent valuesin liverand highenergycontent values in gonads were observed during the gonadal growth period. In some periods of the reproductive cycle, low values of energy content of muscle were found.
The condition factor profile was similar to the energy content profile of liver and muscle. Physicochemical and biochemical properties of actomyosin were monitored by reduced viscosity and Mg2+-ATPase activity. The profiles of these properties were similar to that of the condition factor.  相似文献

利用点状树木径向变化记录仪对芦芽山林线树种华北落叶松树木茎干的径向变化进行了一年的连续观测,分析了华北落叶松茎干径向日变化规律及茎干累积变化的季节动态.结果表明:华北落叶松茎干日变化在温暖季和寒冷季存在着相反的变化模式.在温暖季,茎干径向日变化归因于空气温度导致树木蒸腾作用强度的日变化而使茎干组织水分发生变化;在寒冷季,茎干径向日变化主要是因为空气温度通过热力学原理导致的“茎干冻融作用”.华北落叶松年内茎干径向变化存在4个不同阶段:1)春季茎干水分恢复期,2)夏季茎干快速增长期,3)秋季茎干脱水收缩期,4)冬季茎干相对稳定期.在不同阶段,影响华北落叶松茎干径向变化的环境因子并不一致.土壤温度为生长季中控制华北落叶松茎干径向生长的主导因子.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the seasonal variations of mercury levels and human health risk in vegetables that were collected from farmland, home garden, and plastic greenhouse in summer and winter 2016 in Arid Oasis (Shihezi city), Xinjiang, Northwest China. The results showed that the levels of mercury in fresh vegetables were lower in winter (0.003–0.025 mg·kg?1) than in summer (0.001–0.035 mg·kg?1). Single factor pollution (P) in vegetables indicated that all vegetables were polluted in diverse levels. The exceeding rate in different vegetables was 0.00% to 88.89% in summer and 0.00% to 100% in winter compared with limits of pollutants in vegetables. The value of bio-concentration factor (BCF) revealed that the mercury absorption capacity of 10 species vegetables decreased in the following order: pea seedling > spinage > caraway > lettuces > pakchoi > celery > crowndaisy chrysanthemum > chives > spinach > shallot. The daily intake (DI) and target hazard quotient (THQ) of mercury for children (2–12 years), young adults (18–45 years), and quinquagenarian (>45 years) indicated that non-carcinogenic values were below the threshold values except one sampling sit from farmland around the industrial parks. Furthermore, the THQ of open field in summer was higher than plastic greenhouse in winter. Under the same pollution level, children had more non-carcinogenic risk than young adults and quinquagenarian.  相似文献

Seasonal variations in numbers and biomass and breeding of 28 species ofScarabaeidae-Scarabaeinae andGeotrupidae were studied at 2 temperate sites and 2 mediterranean sites in southern France in 1978 and 1979, using cattle-dung baited pitfall traps. Maximum dung burial occurred when females were parous and ovipositiong (i.e. during spring at the mediterranean sites and summer at the temperate sites). Using biomass as a measure of dung burial the most important spring active beetles at the mediterranean sites were:Budas bison, B. bubalus, Scarabaeus laticollis, Onthophagus lemur andCopris hispanus, and at the temperate sites:C. lunaris, O. vacca, andO. ovatus. These results confirmed the previous choice ofC. hispanus, C. lunaris, B. bison andO. vacca for introduction into Australia. In addition it is suggested thatB. bubalus, S. laticollis andO. lemur be considered for introduction into mediterranean areas of south western Australia to complement those species already introduced for bush fly control.   相似文献

利用2006-08-16、2007-3-28和2007-11-12三次在太湖梅梁湾15个样点的观测数据,对漫衰减系数(Kd)及其影响因素的时空差异性进行分析,发现:梅梁湾地区Kd的主要决定因素是总吸收系数,后向散射作用对Kd具有一定的影响作用,但非主导作用;梅梁湾地区水体Kd影响因素的主次关系并非固定不变,而是随着水体组分的季节性变化而变化,3月份Kd的主导影响因素是非色素物质,其次是有色可溶性有机物(CDOM)、色素物质和后向散射作用,而8月份的主导影响因素是色素物质,其次是非色素物质、CDOM和后向散射作用,而11月份相对较为复杂,在440nm处主导影响因素是非色素物质,其次是色素物质、CDOM和后向散射作用,595nm处主导影响因素是非色素物质吸收作用,其次是色素物质吸收作用、后向散射作用、CDOM吸收作用,675nm处主导影响因素是色素物质,其次是非色素物质、后向散射作用和CDOM.  相似文献

Variations in species morphology and life‐history traits strongly correlate with geographic and climatic characteristics. Most studies on morphological variations in animals focus on ectotherms distributed on a large geographic scale across latitudinal and/or altitudinal gradient. However, the morphological variations of spiders living in the same habitats across different seasons have not been reported. In this study, we used the wolf spider, Pardosa astrigera, as a model to determine seasonal differences in adult body size, melanism, fecundity, and egg diameter both in the overwintering and the first generation for 2010 and 2016. The results showed that in 2010, both females and males of the overwintering generation were significantly darker than the first generation. Moreover, the overwintering females were markedly larger and produced more and bigger eggs than the first generation in both 2010 and 2016. Considering the overwintering P. astrigera experiencing low temperature and/or desiccation stress, these results suggest that substantially darker and larger body of the overwintering generation is adaptive to adverse conditions.  相似文献

Intertidal mussel beds were severely damaged by scouring ice floes during the winter of 1995/96. Aerial surveys before and after the winter showed that more clusters of mussel beds vanished in a region with a higher areal share of tidal flats and a lower salinity, suggesting that the amount of ice present determined the magnitude of the disturbance on beds of Mytilus edulis. Nehls and Thiel [(1993) Neth J Sea Res 31:181–187] observed a strikingly similar spatial pattern of disturbances caused by severe storms in the Wadden Sea. Areas on mussel beds mechanically undisturbed by ice showed no reduced abundance and biomass of mussels, indicating that temperature alone was of little importance as a lethal factor. Conversely, Cerastoderma edule was strongly affected by low temperature. On average 80% died during the winter with extinctions up to 100% in the high tidal zone. At the lowest tidal level, surviving cockles were larger than those killed by the frost. A reinvestigation of sampled sites in autumn revealed that substantial further mortality had occurred during spring and summer which may constitute a time-lag effect of the preceding winter. There was no increased mortality in juvenile and adult Mya arenaria during the winter of 1995/96, confirming that this clam is a hard-winter species like Macoma balthica. The cAMP content in rat heart ventricles was studied at 3-hr intervals during 24hr at different times of the year. A significant circadian rhythm in cAMP content was found. Time of the year reproducibly influenced the 24-hr mean, the amplitude as well as the peak value in cAMP in relation to circadian time.  相似文献
