Antioxidants located in both the hydrophilic and lipophilic compartments of plasma are actively involved as a defense system against reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are continuously generated in the body due to both normal metabolism and disease. However, when the production of ROS is not controlled, it leads to cellular lipid, protein, and DNA damage in biological systems. Several assays to measure 'total' antioxidant capacity of plasma have been developed to study the involvement of oxidative stress in pathological conditions and to evaluate the functional bioavailability of dietary antioxidants. Conventional assays to determine antioxidant capacity primarily measure the antioxidant capacity in the aqueous compartment of plasma. Consequently, water-soluble antioxidants such as ascorbic acid, uric acid and protein thiols mainly influence these assays, whereas fat-soluble antioxidants such as tocopherols and carotenoids play only a minor role. However, there are active interactions among antioxidants located in the hydrophilic and lipophilic compartments of plasma. Therefore, new approaches to define the 'true' total antioxidant capacity of plasma should reflect the antioxidant network between water- and fat-soluble antioxidants in plasma. Revelation of the mechanism of action of antioxidants and their true antioxidant potential will help us to optimize the antioxidant defenses in the body.  相似文献

This study verified regional differences in the stem form of Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. (red pine) and identified the relationship between stem form and climatic factors in the central region of the Korean peninsula. Regional differences in stem form index at tree base (butt) and top stem section were found. Compared to the stem form in the eastern uplands, the stem form in the western lowlands could be characterized by a more conical butt section and more cylindrical middle and upper section. Through geostatistical analysis of kriging and spatial regression, several climatic factors proved to exert a meaningful influence on stem taper form. On the stem form at the butt section, the precipitation during the late growing season exerts statistically significant effects. High precipitation during the growing season in the western lowland and coastal region causes the stem form at the butt section to be more tapered. On the stem form at the middle and upper section, temperature and precipitation during the growing season, and wind during the late growing season have statistically meaningful influences. High temperature, precipitation, and wind during the growing season in the western lowland and coastal region jointly influence the stem form at the middle and upper sections which result in more cylindrical profiles. This study can be considered an initial investigation into the factors controlling stem form variability in the central region of the Korean peninsula. The results can be used to develop more accurate regional stem taper models needed for reasonable management of red pine stands in different regions.

The effects of naturally-occurring organic compounds on ferrous iron oxidation by the bacterium Thiobacillus ferrooxidans were examined with a view to using these compounds to treat or prevent acid mine/rock drainage. The compounds glucose, cellobiose, galacturonic acid, and citric acid were added to the growth medium of five different strains of the bacterium and growth studies were done to determine whether or not strain differences existed with respect to organic compound sensitivity. The effects of these compounds were compared to the effects of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) an anionic detergent. Each of the compounds tested had an inhibitory effect on the strains of the bacterium and sensitivity to these compounds was strain dependent. All strains appeared to be equally susceptible to SDS. Inhibitory concentrations ranged from 70 mM to >280 mM for glucose, 7.5 mM to 150 mM for cellobiose, 20 mM to 230 mM for galacturonic acid, and 50 mM to 130 mM for citric acid. SDS effectively inhibited iron oxidation for all strains at a concentration of 0.3 mM, the lowest concentration tested. Some naturally-occurring organic compounds, therefore, might be candidates for the growth control of T. ferrooxidans.  相似文献

A large accumulation of carbon dioxide emission have attracted much attention recently. The existing researches mainly focused on such impact factors of carbon dioxide emission as population, economy, technology and others. However, there is little specific guidance for the subdivision of demographic factors. This paper employed STIRPAT (Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence and Technology) model to examine the impact of population size, per capita consumption, energy intensity, urbanization and aging population on CO2 emissions by adopting panel data of 30 provinces from 1997 to 2012. Taking the climate change as a control variable, we can get the result that the population size, per capita consumption and energy intensity have strong explanatory power on CO2 emissions in the three regions. The urbanization level has a positive influence on carbon emissions in the western region and has a negative effect in the central region, while it is not statistically significant in the eastern region. Aging population increases emissions in the eastern region, while decreases emissions in the central region and the western region.  相似文献

Phytochemical study of the leaves and the stem bark of Pseudospondias microcarpa (A. Rich.) Engl. afforded eight phenolic compounds: scopoletin (1), ferulic acid (2), isovitexin (3), rhoifolin (4), quercetin 3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (5), justicialoside A (6), granduloside A (7) and pithecellobiumol B (8). The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic means including 1D and 2D NMR and MS, and by comparison with previously reported data. This is the first report on the isolation of these compounds from the genus Pseudospondias. The chemotaxonomic significance of the isolated compounds within the family Anacardiaceae is discussed.  相似文献

In previous papers it has been demonstrated that the plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) is responsible for the stimulation of water filtration and oxygen consumption elicited by a temperature increase in the Mediterranean demosponge Axinella polypoides. The signal transduction pathway triggered by ABA involves activation of ADP-ribosyl cyclase (ADPRC), leading to an increase of the intracellular concentration of cyclic ADP-ribose (cADPR), a universal and potent intracellular calcium mobilizer. These data prompted us to investigate the possible involvement of the ABA/ADPRC/cADPR system in the sponge life cycle and in post-traumatic tissue regeneration of Mediterranean sponges. ADPRC activity was detected in the cell lysate from several common Mediterranean sponge species, including Calcarea and Demospongiae. Specimens were collected monthly over a 2-year period, from January 2002 to April 2004. All species studied showed a peak of ADPRC activity during July and August 2003, concomitant with an anomalous heat wave that struck the whole Mediterranean basin during these months. In the aquarium, during spontaneous tissue regeneration, an increase of the [ABA]i and of the ADPRC activity over time zero values was consistently observed. In conclusion, these results indicate that an increase of ABA content and of ADPRC activity correlates with the growth and with post-traumatic tissue regeneration in several Mediterranean sponge species, indicating that the ABA/ADPRC/cADPR system is involved in the response to environmental stress in sponges. Determination of ADPRC activity/ABA content may provide a means to assess metabolic activation of sponge populations under conditions of environmental stress.  相似文献

The Boletus edulis species complex includes ectomycorrhizal fungi producing edible mushrooms appreciated worldwide. However, species delineation is very difficult in these fungi, because it is based exclusively on a few, highly variable morphological features. As a consequence, a high number of taxa--including several varieties, subspecies and/or species sensu stricto--have been described in this species complex. In this paper we report on an extensive analysis of internal transcribed spacer of the nuclear rDNA region on a large sample of species of the B. edulis complex, mainly harvested in Italy, and representative of the European variability of this group. The molecular analysis allowed us to discriminate among and within B. edulis, B. aestivalis, B. pinophilus and B. aereus spp. and resolve their phylogenetic relationship.  相似文献

流域季节性径流变化反映了年内水资源的动态特征。在以森林为主的流域中,森林变化和气候变异被普遍认为是影响流域水文过程的两大驱动因素。因此在全球气候变化背景下,研究流域森林恢复和气候变异对流域季节性径流的影响,可为协调区域碳-水关系和制订可持续的森林经营管理策略提供参考。选择鄱阳湖流域上游的平江流域为研究对象,根据流域历史森林覆盖率变化情况,将研究期划分为参考期(1961-1985)和森林恢复期(1986-2006),采用Mann-Kendall趋势分析研究流域长时期水文气象数据是否存在显著变化趋势。同时引入月干旱指数(潜在蒸散发和有效降雨的比率),将一年定义为能量限制季(1-6月)和水分限制季(7-12月),结合扩展的Budyko模型定量分析平江流域森林恢复和气候变异对季节性径流的相对贡献。在本研究流域整个研究期内(1961-2006),通过Mann-Kendall趋势分析发现,研究流域水分限制季径流呈现显著增加趋势,而能量限制季水文和气候变量变化趋势均不显著。其次,相较于参考期,流域森林恢复使能量限制季径流降低了11.71 mm/a (24.40%),使水分限制季径流增加了12.27 mm/a (17.23%)。同时,气候变异导致能量限制季径流减少了36.28 mm/a (75.60%),而使水分限制季径流增加了58.94 mm/a (82.77%)。上述研究结果表明,森林恢复对径流影响具有累积效应。森林恢复对季节性径流具有积极的调节作用,同时季节性径流对森林恢复的响应存在时间差,而且森林恢复对径流的影响在能量限制季和水分限制季具有相互抵消的作用,气候变异与森林恢复的影响效应类似。此外,本研究也证实,平江流域季节性径流变化主要是受气候变化主导,但森林恢复对季节性径流的贡献也不容忽视。  相似文献

In this paper we show the seasonal and diurnal variation in the content of the four iridoids found in cultivars of Antirrhinum majus, antirrhinoside, antirrhide, 5-glucosyl-antirrhinoside and linarioside. The seasonal variation in total iridoid content showed a marked bimodal distribution with high total values (around 100 mg/g dry matter) early and late in the season and a very low content of all iridoids coinciding with the onset of flowering at the beginning of August. The relative contribution of antirrhinoside was significantly higher before flowering than after bud break. The relative decrease in antirrhinoside was counteracted by an increase of antirrhide, which was significantly higher after the onset of flowering than before. This pattern indicates a change in biosynthesis, although no explanation can be given to the phenomenon. The diurnal variation showed a variation between 20 and 60 mg/g dry weight, but there was no relation to light/darkness conditions, temperature patterns or water content. The analyses were performed by HPLC. The applied method has not previously been used in the quantification of iridoids, but was developed specifically for the analyses of cultivars of Antirrhinum majus. We have fully validated the method during its development. The limit of detection was calculated to 0.004 mg/ml and the limit of quantification was 0.01 mg/ml.  相似文献

Sixty-one isolates of Macrophomina phaseolina were characterised on the basis of different morphological characters to study the variability in the population. PCA analysis extracted three main components, microsclerotia, texture and colour, from the population that described the variability in the population most appropriately. Colour of the isolates and the presence of the microsclerotia have a significant effect on the area under disease progress curve. Isolates with the production of microsclerotia (M+) were more aggressive as compared to isolates with no production of microsclerotia (M?). The study has brought out pathogenic variation in M. phaseolina, thus better understanding of host pathogen relationship to identify physiologic races in the breeding programme.  相似文献

Quantitative and qualitative changes in proteins and ethanol-soluble nitrogen were followed in senescing leaf and bark tissues of ‘Golden Delicious’ apple trees (Malus domestica Borkh.). While senescing leaves lost 46% of their proteins, total bark protein increased 240% during senescence. However, the protein nitrogen gain in bark tissue was about the same as the protein nitrogen loss in leaf tissue per unit fresh weight of tissues. The pattern of bark protein accumulation appears to be gradual from early August to November and sequential from lower to higher molecular weight species of proteins. The final electrophoretic profile of total bark proteins was established at the later stages of senescence. By late November, 89% of the nitrogen in the bark tissue was found in proteins with 11% in the ethanol-soluble fractions. The total protein content of dormant bark tissue was 3.5% per gram dry tissue. Fractionation of the total bark proteins by DEAE-cellulose chromatography indicated that the final upsurge of bark proteins observed in November was associated primarily with one group of proteins (Peak III).  相似文献

Dexosomes are nanometer-size vesicles released by dendritic-cells, possessing much of the cellular machinery required to stimulate an immune response (i.e. MHC Class I and II). The ability of patient-derived dexosomes loaded with tumor antigens to elicit anti-tumor activity is currently being evaluated in clinical trials. Unlike conventional biologics, where variability between lots of product arises mostly from the manufacturing process, an autologous product has inherent variability in the starting material due to heterogeneity in the human population. In an effort to assess the variability arising from the dexosome manufacturing process versus the human starting material, 144 dexosome preparations from normal donors (111) and cancer patients (33) from two Phase I clinical trials were analyzed. A large variability in the quantity of dexosomes (measured as the number of MHC Class II molecules) produced between individual lots was observed ( > 50-fold). An analysis of intra-lot variability shows that the manufacturing process introduces relatively little of this variability. To identify the source(s) of variability arising from the human starting material, distributions of the key parameters involved in dexosome production were established, and a model created. Computer simulations using this model were performed, and compared to the actual data observed. The main conclusion from these simulations is that the number of cells collected per individual and the productivity of these cells of are the principal sources of variability in the production of Class II. The approach described here can be extended to other autologous therapies in general to evaluate control of manufacturing processes. Moreover, this analysis of process variability is directly applicable to production at a commercial scale, since the large scale manufacture of autologous products entails an exact process replication rather than scale-up in volume, as is the case with traditional drugs or biologics.  相似文献

ISSR-PCR has been widely used for genetic distance analysis and DNA fingerprinting but has been less well utilised for mapping purposes. A key limitation lies in the small number of primer designs available to generate useful polymorphisms. In this study, the potential of paired combinations of ISSR primers is evaluated using a test cross mapping population of 168 BC1 individuals between Fragaria vesca f. vesca and a closely related line F. vesca f. semperflorens. Ten ISSR primers and all possible pairwise combinations between them were used to generate markers potentially linked to the locus controlling seasonal flowering in F. vesca. Band profiles of individual primers were found to be highly reproducible for band position and intensity, and only minor variation was noted in band intensity (but not in position) between different constituent mixes of primer-pair combinations. Overall, ISSR primers used in isolation produced 85 markers of which only five were specific to F. vesca. None of these markers were linked to the seasonal flowering locus. In contrast, the primer-pair combina-tions yielded 493 markers, including 14 specific to F. vesca. These markers included two located within 2.2 cM of the seasonality locus. The strengths and limitations of using pairs of ISSR primers in combination for mapping and other genetic analyses are briefly explored. Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) from 36 wild species of the genus Helianthus has been analysed with three restriction endonucleases (Bam HI, Hind III and Sst I). Out of the 71 restriction sites described on the reference cpDNA (sunflower cpDNA), three insertions/deletions and seven site modifications were detected during the survey of the other cpDNAs.Since restriction mapping showed only a very limited fraction of the DNA variability, we chose to adapt the S1 nuclease mapping technique to detect fine variations between chloroplast genomes. For this purpose, DNA-DNA heteroduplexes obtained between sunflower and wild-species DNAs were digested by S1 nuclease and the resulting mismatches were detected by classical endonuclease restriction and hybridization methods. The S1 nuclease mapping results were confirmed by sequencing one S1 nuclease-sensitive region detected between cultivated sunflower and two perennial wild-type species.As a result of these analyses, it appeared that the combination of restriction mapping and S1 nuclease mapping might be helpful to differentiate taxonomically close cytoplasms.  相似文献

土壤具有不同程度的空间变异性,土壤空间变异研究对于土壤管理有重要意义.本文简要综述了分形理论及其在土壤空间变异研究中的应用,重点讨论了利用矩方法计算土壤属性分形维,多重分形分析土壤空间变异性及基于多重分形谱参数的土壤属性尺度转换.早期研究验证了分形理论在分析土壤空间变异中的有效性和应用潜力,国内外近期研究则报道了利用分形及多重分形理论分析土壤空间变异的最新进展.分形理论可以成为量化土壤属性空间变异性及尺度转换的重要工具.  相似文献

Normative odontometric data are presented on a sample of 66 adult thick-tailed bushbabies Otolemur crassicaudatus(34 male, 32 female). This species is characterized by low levels of sexual dimorphism, with univariate differences centered on the canines and the maxillary third molar. Multivariate canonical analysis isolates a third discriminator, the maxillary second molar. Stepwise discriminant analyses, performed after jackknifing, indicate high percentages of correct classification (males, 79.8–81.8%;females, 81–85.2%). When variability profiles consisting of arrays of CVs are compared, males and females are found to share similar patterns. Data for maxillary teeth offer support for Gingerich’s occlusal complexity model, while morphogenetic clusterings within regressions of variability on tooth size conform to those previously reported in other species. These relationships are lost in the mandibular dentition, suggesting an independence of upper from lower toothsize determination.  相似文献

Abstract

The sources and process-specific emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from an automobile manufacturing plant in Beijing, China were explored and monitored to assess the health risk from VOCs to workers of the automobile manufacturing plant. Eleven VOCs were detected in the air samples collected from the 12 working posts of five workshops of the automobile manufacturing plant using a meteorological chromatographic analytical method. The health risks exposed to VOCs were assessed using the probabilistic risk-assessment method, and the sensitivity and uncertainty analysis were conducted using the Monte Carlo simulation method. The results showed that VOCs mainly originated from the use and volatilization of chemical raw materials. The total carcinogenic risks were large owing to the high concentrations of benzene and ethylbenzene in various processes, suggesting a definite risk. The total non-carcinogenic risk in the paint shop was the highest, and the topcoat post, mixing paint post and basecoat post contributed to more than 70% of the total risk of this workshop. Exposure duration and concentration of VOCs had a greater impact on the health risk. These research findings may provide scientific basis for policy toward improving the health status of workers in automobile manufacturing enterprise in China.  相似文献
