Progress with stock recovery plans to date for depleted marine resources is reviewed, based on published and publicly available sources. Most plans began within the last two decades, so quantifying progress is difficult, but some 60 cases were found where a recovery effort had been explicitly tackled by either a closure or restrictive measures, and seven documented case studies were used to draw general conclusions on recovery procedures and to provide a list of considerations for best practice in recovery planning. More successes were documented for pelagic .sheries than demersals, especially with closures, while spontaneous recoveries of some depleted invertebrate resources seem related to reductions in predator pressure. Few shared, straddling or highly migratory stocks have been restored to date. Most successful recoveries occurred in the centre of the species geographical range and/or in favourable regimes. Success seems to depend on non-discretionary fishery control laws being applied. Depletions aggravated by unfavourable climatic regimes will be difficult to reverse, as illustrated by a simulation. Durations of recovery plans in particular depend on regime, and using stock information from favourable regimes to predict plan duration should be treated with caution. Although successful recoveries to date have tended to be decadal, a considerable proportion are still underway, and are likely to exceed this duration. Sister-chromatid exchanges (SCEs) were studied in 3 workers accidentally exposed for about half an hour to high levels of ethylene oxide (more than 700 ppm) during a sterilizing process. The 3 workers had clinical symptoms of exposure and were tested for SCE frequencies 5 days and 2 years after the accident: 2 had also been tested 6 months earlier. All 3 showed a similar increase in SCEs after the accident, to a mean of 13.8 SCEs/cell compared with 8.6 for a control group. The incidence of 'high-frequency cells' was markedly elevated but decreased over 2 years, when the mean SCE frequencies had also returned to pre-accident levels.  相似文献

The decade of the 70’s was remarkable for the insights that rapidly accumulated to provide us with an understanding of one of the fundamental processes of animal cell metabolism, namely, how mammalian cells ingest a host of extracellular substances to satisfy their various metabolic needs. It has long been appreciated that the surfaces of mammalian cells are in a continual state of flux. Surface membranes often fold inward and pinch of in a vesicular form trapping some of the contents of the extracellular material which are thus transported into the cell. This process is called endocytosis (reviewed in Silversteinet al., 1977). When extracellular fluids are taken up in this manner, the process is called fluid-phase endocytosis or pinocytosis. When solids are ingested, the process is called phagocytosis. Although quantitatively important over the long run, these modes of uptake are slow, non-specific and dependent on the concentration of the substance in the extracellular medium. In recent years it has been recognized that animal cells have developed a specialized form of this vesicular transport system to selectively retrieve and assimilate macromolecules from the extracellular milieu with high efficiency. This process is called receptor-mediated endocytosis. In this review an attempt is made to collate and correlate the evidence establishing receptor-mediated endocytosis as a dynamic process that routes cell surface receptors and ligands through multiple intracellular compartments to their ultimate destination.  相似文献

This study aimed to investigate the effects of immediate postgame recovery interventions (seated rest, supine electrostimulation, low-intensity land exercises, and water exercises) on anaerobic performance (countermovement jump [CMJ], bounce jumping, 10-m sprint), hormones (salivary cortisol, urinary catecholamines), and subjective ratings (rate of perceived exertion [RPE], leg muscle pain, Questionnaire of Recovery Stress for Athletes [RestQ Sport], 10-point Likert scale), and hours of sleep of futsal players. Heart rate (HR), blood lactate, and RPE were used to evaluate the intensity of 4 futsal games in 10 players using a crossover design (P < 0.05), randomly allocating athletes to 1 of the 4 recovery interventions at the end of each game. No significant difference emerged between HR, blood lactate, RPE, and level of hydration of the games. A significant difference (P < 0.001) between games emerged for total urinary catecholamines, with an increase from the first to the second game and a gradual reduction up to the fourth game. After the game, significant reductions in CMJ (P < 0.001) and 10-m sprints (P < 0.05) emerged. No significant difference was found between recovery interventions for anaerobic performances, hormones, muscle pain, and RestQ Sport. Even though a well-balanced diet, rehydration, and controlled lifestyle might represent a sufficient recovery intervention in young elite athletes, the players perceived significantly increased benefit (P < 0.01) from the electrostimulation (7.8 +/- 1.4 points) and water exercises (7.6 +/- 2.1 points) compared to dry exercises (6.6 +/- 1.8 points) and seated rest (5.2 +/- 0.8 points.), which might improve their attitude toward playing. To induce progressive hormonal adaptation to the high exercise load of multiple games, in the last 2 weeks of the preseason, coaches should organize friendly games at a level similar to that of the competitive season.  相似文献

Our information-driven docking approach HADDOCK has demonstrated a sustained performance since the start of its participation to CAPRI. This is due, in part, to its ability to integrate data into the modeling process, and to the robustness of its scoring function. We participated in CAPRI both as server and manual predictors. In CAPRI rounds 38-45, we have used various strategies depending on the available information. These ranged from imposing restraints to a few residues identified from literature as being important for the interaction, to binding pockets identified from homologous complexes or template-based refinement/CA-CA restraint-guided docking from identified templates. When relevant, symmetry restraints were used to limit the conformational sampling. We also tested for a large decamer target a new implementation of the MARTINI coarse-grained force field in HADDOCK. Overall, we obtained acceptable or better predictions for 13 and 11 server and manual submissions, respectively, out of the 22 interfaces. Our server performance (acceptable or higher-quality models when considering the top 10) was better (59%) than the manual (50%) one, in which we typically experiment with various combinations of protocols and data sources. Again, our simple scoring function based on a linear combination of intermolecular van der Waals and electrostatic energies and an empirical desolvation term demonstrated a good performance in the scoring experiment with a 63% success rate across all 22 interfaces. An analysis of model quality indicates that, while we are consistently performing well in generating acceptable models, there is room for improvement for generating/identifying higher quality models.  相似文献

为明确厌氧氨氧化反应器启动过程中Anammox菌的富集规律,采用荧光原位杂交(FISH)和实时荧光定量PCR(q-PCR)分析技术,对未添加填料、添加多面空心球以及添加竹炭的3个UASB反应器厌氧氨氧化启动过程中Anammox菌的增长规律进行分析。研究表明,Anammox菌的相对数量和绝对数量均随着启动时间呈逐渐递增趋势,在稳定运行阶段的第123天,无填料、多面空心球和竹炭反应器中Anammox菌分别占总细菌的23.3%、32.6%和43.7%,单位VSS污泥中Anammox菌16S rRNA基因拷贝数分别为(25.64±2.76)×107、(47.12±2.76)×107和(577.99±27.25)×107拷贝数g–1 VSS。竹炭反应器中Anammox菌最大生长率和最短倍增时间分别为0.064 d?1和10.8 d,最大生长率分别是无填料和多面空心球反应器的1.78倍和1.88倍。因此,填料添加特别是竹炭的添加可极大地促进Anammox菌的选择性生长和繁殖。FISH和q-PCR分析技术均适用于Anammox菌的富集规律研究,但因其检测目标存在差异,造成两者表征结果有所不同。  相似文献

An overview of osteoporosis for the practising prosthodontist Osteoporosis is an insidious and common bone disorder of the modern age, as a result of the rapidly increasing number of older people in the total population. It has long been concluded that this disease has definite deleterious effects on the stomatognathic system and is therefore of major concern to a Prosthodontist. If features on a dental radiograph, which are the most commonly required radiographs, can be detected regularly and consistently, it would place a prosthodontist in a position to refer the patient for timely management and also modify his treatment plan, greatly improving the prognosis. Available literature was therefore reviewed for pathophysiology, dental radiographic screening measures, implications and management of osteoporosis from the perspective of a prosthodontist.  相似文献

The concept of anti-inflammation is currently evolving with the definition of several endogenous inhibitory circuits that are important in the control of the host inflammatory response. Here we focus on one of these pathways, the annexin 1 (ANXA1) system. Originally identified as a 37 kDa glucocorticoid-inducible protein, ANXA1 has emerged over the last decade as an important endogenous modulator of inflammation. We review the pharmacological effects of ANXA1 on cell types involved in inflammation, from blood-borne leukocytes to resident cells. This review reveals that there is scope for more research, since most of the studies have so far focused on the effects of the protein and its peptido-mimetics on neutrophil recruitment and activation. However, many other cells central to inflammation, e.g. endothelial cells or mast cells, also express ANXA1: it is foreseen that a better definition of the role(s) of the endogenous protein in these cells will open the way to further pharmacological studies. We propose that a more systematic analysis of ANXA1 physio-pharmacology in cells involved in the host inflammatory reaction could aid in the design of novel anti-inflammatory therapeutics based on this endogenous mediator.  相似文献

When xylan-containing lignocellulosic materials are subjected to the action of heat in an aqueous medium (autohydrolysis reaction) under suitable operational conditions, the heterocyclic ether bonds of the polymeric chain are split to give xylooligosaccharides (XO) and a variety of other products derived from hemicelluloses, lignin and extractives. For product applications requiring high-purity XO, subsequent purification stages have to be implemented. Various strategies have been evaluated for refining Eucalyptus wood autohydrolysis liquors, including the two-stage reaction, precipitation and solvent extraction of freeze-dried, dewaxed liquors. Data on the degree of xylooligosaccharide recovery as well as on the composition of the isolates (measured in terms of hemicellulose-derived products and non-saccharide products) are provided for the various operational procedures assayed.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the edible insect industry in South Korea and present suggestions for future pricing and promotion strategies. In the first section of this paper, this study outlines the current status and challenges of the edible insect industry in the food market, the material market, the animal feed market, and the medicinal market. The second section of this paper suggests different pricing and promotion strategies for each market segment. Various reported field studies on the performance of biofilm reactors suggest that the linear control of the system is effective for maintaining the consistent treatment efficiency under changing environmental conditions. However, no theoretical basis is available in the literature to substantiate such a claim. In this article, inherent linearity of the biofilm process has been identified along with the conditions under which this linearity exists. Exploiting the linear state of the system, operational criteria for regulating the performance of the biofilm reactors are obtained. A periodic countercurrent whole beer process was developed for the recovery of novobiocin to eliminate the high cost of mycelium filtration and accompanying antibiotic losses in the filter cake. In such a process screened, but unfiltered, novobiocin fermentation beer is contacted with a special grade of an anionic-exchange resin in a series of specially designed, well mixed columns. Each column is fitted with a screen sized to retain resin within the column but allow the cells to press. Periodically the lead column is isolated from the column train, washed free of beer solids, and eluted. A freshly eluted column is placed in the trail position to allow countercurrent operation. The eluate is then processed to crystalline product. A mathematical model for the sorption of novobiocin was developed based on a suitable continuity equation and mass transfer and equilibrium relationships determined in the laboratory. Digital computations of this model correlated well with laboratory and pilot plant data, and predicted well the performance of the production units. This simulation has been in continued use to predict and reoptimize plant operation as process changes (such as improved beer titers, increased production rate, and the evaluation of superior ion-exchange resins) occurred or were anticipated.  相似文献

Testicular germ cell tumors (TGCTs), the most common malignancy in males between 15 and 34 years of age and the most frequent cause of death from solid tumors in this age group. TGCTs can be subdivided into seminoma and non‐seminoma germ cell tumors (NSGCTs), including embryonal cell carcinoma, choriocarcinoma, yolk sac tumor, and teratoma. Seminomas and NSGCTs do not only present distinctive clinical features, but they also show significant differences as far as therapy and prognosis are concerned. Seminomas are highly sensitive to both radiation and chemotherapy, with a good prognosis, non‐seminomas are sensitive to platinum‐based combination chemotherapy and are less susceptible to radiation, with the exception of teratomas. The different therapeutic outcome might be explained by inherent properties of the cells from which testicular neoplasia originate. The unique treatment sensitivity of TGCTs is unexplained so far, but it is likely to be related to intrinsic molecular characteristics of the PGCs/gonocytes, from which these tumors originate. Many discovered bio‐markers including OCT3/4, SOX2, SOX17, HMGA1, HMGA2, PATZ1, GPR30, Aurora B, estrogen receptor β, and others have given further advantages to discriminate between histological subgroups. In addition, therapeutic approaches for the treatment of TGCTs have been proposed: humanized antibodies against receptors/surface molecules on cancer cells, inhibitors of serine–threonine, and tyrosine kinases, and others. The mini‐review will be an overview on the molecular alterations identified in TGCTs and on novel targeted antineoplastic strategies that might help to treat chemotherapy resistant TGCTs. J. Cell. 【目的】短程硝化-厌氧氨氧化是可实现的最短生物脱氮工艺,短程硝化是实现该工艺的重要环节和必要条件。【方法】采用序批式反应器(SBR)来实现短程硝化过程的启动和稳定运行,并对该过程中的相关功能菌群变化进行检测分析。【结果】通过控制低DO浓度(<1 mg/L)和逐步提高氨氮进水负荷,可抑制氨氧化细菌(NOB)菌群增殖并促进亚硝酸氧化菌(AOB)菌群规模显著扩大,实现短程硝化过程的启动和稳定运行。在氨氮进水负荷为0.055 kg/(m3.d)时,平均氨氮去除容积负荷和污泥负荷可达到0.043kg/(m3.d)和0.16 kg/(kg.d),平均亚硝酸盐积累率可达到83.4%。在短程硝化启动和稳定运行过程中,NOB菌群密度从2.0×105CFU/mL降至1.5×104CFU/mL,相对丰度从5.51%降至2.14%;AOB菌群密度从4.5×104CFU/mL增加至1.5×107CFU/mL,相对丰度从0.18%增加至7.25%。【结论】AOB菌群规模的扩大是实现短程硝化和氨氮去除能力提高的主要原因,同时较高的进水氨氮浓度和负荷也会造成亚硝化活性的抑制。  相似文献
