The purpose of the present study was to determine whether thoracic veins may act as ectopic pacemakers and whether nodelike cells and rich sympathetic innervation are present at the ectopic sites. We used a 1,792-electrode mapping system with 1-mm resolution to map ectopic atrial arrhythmias in eight normal dogs during in vivo right and left stellate ganglia (SG) stimulation before and after sinus node crushing. SG stimulation triggered significant elevations of transcardiac norepinephrine levels, sinus tachycardia in all dogs, and atrial tachycardia in two of eight dogs. Sinus node crushing resulted in a slow junctional rhythm (51 +/- 6 beats/min). Subsequent SG stimulation induced 20 episodes of ectopic beats in seven dogs and seven episodes of pulmonary vein tachycardia in three dogs (cycle length 273 +/- 35 ms, duration 16 +/- 4 s). The ectopic beats arose from the pulmonary vein (n = 11), right atrium (n = 5), left atrium (n = 2), and the vein of Marshall (n = 2). There was no difference in arrhythmogenic effects of left vs. right SG stimulation (13/29 vs. 16/29 episodes, P = nonsignificant). There was a greater density of periodic acid Schiff-positive cells (P < 0.05) and sympathetic nerves (P < 0.05) at the ectopic sites compared with other nonectopic atrial sites. We conclude that, in the absence of a sinus node, thoracic veins may function as subsidiary pacemakers under heightened sympathetic tone, becoming the dominant sites of initiation of focal atrial arrhythmias that arise from sites with abundant sympathetic nerves and periodic acid Schiff-positive cells.  相似文献

A 9-month old, female, stray dog was rescued and conducted to a university veterinary hospital. Moderate anemia was observed and abdominal ultrasound revealed pancreatitis. Right kidney was not visualized due to intestinal gas. Urinalysis was normal. Castration was performed three weeks later. Before discharge, abdominal ultrasound was performed for internal sutures examination. A cyst-like structure was present in the right retroperitoneal space with what appeared to be tubular worms inside it, not observed in previous evaluation. An ectopic dioctophymosis diagnosis was made. Two female Dioctophyme renale were surgically removed from the structure. Right kidney was hyperemic but not removed. No sign of peritonitis was observed. The dog recovered well. Laboratory follow-up showed no abnormalities a year after the episode and Doppler ultrasound revealed a mild right nephropathy. This is the first canine ectopic dioctophymosis case with only an abdominal cyst-like structure containing viable nematodes, successfully treated. It represents the rarity and difficulties in diagnosing ectopic dioctophymosis even in enzootic locations, highlighting the importance of ultrasonographic screening for such silent, potentially zoonotic disease.  相似文献

Ectopic calcification is a driving force for a variety of diseases, including kidney stones and atherosclerosis, but initiating factors remain largely unknown. Given its importance in seemingly divergent disease processes, identifying fundamental principal actors for ectopic calcification may have broad translational significance. Here we establish a Drosophila melanogaster model for ectopic calcification by inhibiting xanthine dehydrogenase whose deficiency leads to kidney stones in humans and dogs. Micro X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy (μXANES) synchrotron analyses revealed high enrichment of zinc in the Drosophila equivalent of kidney stones, which was also observed in human kidney stones and Randall’s plaques (early calcifications seen in human kidneys thought to be the precursor for renal stones). To further test the role of zinc in driving mineralization, we inhibited zinc transporter genes in the ZnT family and observed suppression of Drosophila stone formation. Taken together, genetic, dietary, and pharmacologic interventions to lower zinc confirm a critical role for zinc in driving the process of heterogeneous nucleation that eventually leads to stone formation. Our findings open a novel perspective on the etiology of urinary stones and related diseases, which may lead to the identification of new preventive and therapeutic approaches.  相似文献

An anatomical investigation of extraorganic lymphatic vessels and regional renal lymph nodes has been performed in 70 dogs. The regional lymph nodes in the right kidney are stated to be quantitatively constant, as well as cranial and caudal lateroaortal lymph nodes in the left kidney in regard to the middle left lateroaortal nodes, that get lymph from the left kidney parenchyma. One middle left lateroaortal lymph node is found in 47 animals examined, two lymph nodes--in 17 animals. In 6 cases a lymphatic vessel, that gets lymph from the renal parenchyma and independently runs into the cistern of the thoracic duct is found for the first time. The variant revealed is an exception from the rule known in lymphology: lymph in its way from periphery to the central collector runs, at least, through one lymph node.  相似文献

In the New World, visceral leishmaniasis (VL), which is a progressive disease and frequently fatal, is caused by Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum/chagasi. It is endemic in many regions of Brazil and occasionally occurs in non-endemic regions when dogs from an endemic area are introduced. The aim of the present study is to compare different skin infection patterns of dogs from two leishmaniasis endemic areas. A histological analysis of dogs from Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul state, a region where epidemic episodes are currently taking place, showed dermic inflammatory infiltrates, composed of numerous vacuolated parasitized macrophages, few lymphocytes, plasma cells and many degranulated mast cells. In the other region of the study, São Luís, Maranhão state, the skin of dogs presented a remarkable inflammatory reaction composed mainly of plasma cells, lymphocytes and very few parasites. We concluded that there is a difference in the skin lesion patterns of dogs with leishmaniasis that is directly related to the endemic area where the animals live.  相似文献

Decreased diaphragm activity has been demonstrated after cholecystectomy in humans (Am. Rev. Respir. Dis. 127: 431-436, 1983). To investigate the mechanism(s) of postoperative diaphragm dysfunction we have established a dog model. Three groups of mongrel dogs were studied under general anesthesia: six dogs received no surgery (control); nine dogs underwent upper abdominal surgery (cholecystectomy); and six dogs underwent lower abdominal surgery (pseudoappendectomy). Diaphragm function was assessed by changes in transdiaphragmatic pressure swings, the ratio of changes in gastric to esophageal pressure swings, and the ratio of changes in abdominal to rib cage diameters during quiet tidal breathing. In the upper abdominal surgery group there were significant postoperative decreases in all parameters of diaphragm function and an increase in minute ventilation and respiratory frequency. However, there were no significant postoperative changes in the parameters of diaphragm function in the control or lower abdominal surgery groups. These studies establish that general anesthesia is not responsible for the reduced diaphragm activity seen postoperatively and that diaphragm function is not affected by lower abdominal surgery in dogs.  相似文献

Twelve cases of cryptorchidism were found in a colony of Minature Schnauzer purebred and crossbred dogs. At least nine affected dogs were derived from the same sire directly or indirectly. Of 12 affected dogs, five cases were unilateral and seven were bilateral. Eight of the 12 cases were subjected to anatomic study. Fixation of affected organs was by vascular perfusion or immersion. Testes were separated from epididymides and both were weighed. All unilateral retained testicles were on the right side, and right sided bilaterally retained testes were always smaller than their left sided counterparts. With only one exception, ectopic testes were in the abdominal positon. Developmentally, the morphologic appearance of the epididymis of abdominal testes was very primitive in bilateral cases but nearly normal in the unilateral cases. Degree of inbreeding was greater for bilateral cases than unilateral cases. High incidence of cryptorchidism in this colony provided good evidence for hereditary nature of the condition in the Miniature Schnauzer dog. Morphologic observations were suggestive of a multiple gene defect.  相似文献

Inhibition of breathing associated with gallbladder stimulation in dogs   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The effect of mechanical stimulation of the gallbladder on breathing was studied in anesthetized spontaneously breathing dogs. Measurements of tidal volume, breathing frequency, rib cage and abdominal diameter, transdiaphragmatic pressure, and electrical activity of the diaphragm were made while traction or compression was applied to the gallbladder for periods of 30 s. Both forms of mechanical stimulation produced similar changes, including large decreases in tidal volume, respiratory rate, electrical activity of the diaphragm, and transdiaphragmatic pressure swings. Inspiratory rib cage expansion was little affected, but abdominal expansion was greatly reduced, and swings in gastric pressure were reduced more than swings in pleural pressure, indicating a selective decrease in diaphragmatic activity. Recovery of all measured parameters returned toward control values, despite continued traction or compression. Some inhibition persisted after the stimulus was withdrawn. The very brief interval between stimulus and response suggested that the mechanism was a neural reflex. The afferents involved are unknown but are not purely vagal in nature, since qualitatively similar results were seen in animals after vagotomy. The alteration in breathing frequency indicates that at least part of the reflex is supraspinally mediated. The change in pattern of breathing closely resembles that seen in subjects after abdominal surgery and supports the theory that reflex inhibition of breathing contributes to postoperative pulmonary complications seen in those subjects.  相似文献

To determine the relative contribution of rib cage and abdominal muscles to expiratory muscle activity during quiet breathing, we used lumbar epidural anesthesia in six pentobarbital sodium-anesthetized dogs lying supine to paralyze the abdominal muscles while leaving rib cage muscle motor function substantially intact. A high-speed X-ray scanner (Dynamic Spatial Reconstructor) provided three-dimensional images of the thorax. The contribution of expiratory muscle activity to tidal breathing was assessed by a comparison of chest wall configuration during relaxed apnea with that at end expiration. We found that expiratory muscle activity was responsible for approximately half of the changes in thoracic volume during inspiration. Paralysis of the abdominal muscles had little effect on the pattern of breathing, including the contribution of expiratory muscle activity to tidal breathing, in most dogs. We conclude that, although there is consistent phasic expiratory electrical activity in both the rib cage and the abdominal muscles of pentobarbital-anesthetized dogs lying supine, the muscles of the rib cage are mechanically the most important expiratory muscles during quiet breathing.  相似文献

Bopyrid isopods and rhizocephalan barnacles are obligate parasite crustaceans which harm their decapod hosts. However, to the best of our knowledge, studies have not compared which of these parasites has a greater parasitic effect on its hosts. Here, the parasitic effect of the bopyrid isopod, Allokepon hendersoni, and an unidentified sacculinid rhizocephalan species, infesting the same population of portunid crabs, Charybdis bimaculata, was investigated and compared for the first time. Samples were collected from the bycatch of a trawl fishery in Tosa Bay, Japan. A total of 2601 crabs were collected, of which 14 (0.55%) were parasitized by the bopyrid and 21 (0.82%) by the rhizocephalan. One of the two female crabs parasitized by the bopyrid was ovigerous (with much fewer eggs than unparasitized females). No ovigerous crab was found from the eight females parasitized by the rhizocephalan. Because only two female crabs were parasitized by the bopyrid, the following analyses were made using the male crabs. Both parasites reduced the wet weight (crab condition) and the cheliped size (secondary growth) of C. bimaculata, but the impact of the parasitism did not differ between the parasite species. The size of the abdominal flap of male hosts was reduced by the bopyrid infestation; however, rhizocephalan infestation caused enlargement of the abdominal flap, which is an indication of feminization. The present study provides information on how the effect of these two parasitic castrators on the same host crab varies. A moderate decrease in crab condition and cheliped development was common among the parasites, suggesting that the degree of impact might be favorable for the survival of the two parasites species.  相似文献

An autoradiographic study was conducted to determine the influence of the intracellular coccidian parasite of chickens, Eimeria tenella, on the incorporation of tritium-labeled thymidine in kidney cell cultures. Evidence was obtained for a parasite-induced increase in thymidine incorporation in host cell cultures which is too great to be attributed to unscheduled DNA synthesis. The stimulatory effect became significant (P < 0.05) at 24 hr after inoculation and further increased at 48 and 72 hr postinoculation. Both parasitized and unparasitized cells in the infected cultures showed similar increases in thymidine incorporation. Furthermore, the increased incorporation of thymidine in the infected cultures was found to be independent of both the percentage of parasitized cells and development of the parasite.  相似文献

The present study evaluated the reflex response of the expiratory muscles to pulmonary congestion and edema. The electromyograms of two thoracic and four abdominal expiratory muscles were recorded in 12 anesthetized dogs. Pulmonary edema was induced by rapid saline infusion in six dogs and injection of oleic acid into the pulmonary circulation in the remaining six dogs. Both forms of pulmonary edema reduced pulmonary compliance, interfered with gas exchange, and induced a rapid and shallow breathing pattern. The electrical activity of all abdominal muscles was suppressed during both forms of pulmonary edema. In contrast, the electromyogram activity of the thoracic expiratory muscles was not significantly affected by pulmonary edema. Acute pulmonary arterial hypertension produced in two dogs by inflating a balloon in the left atrium had no effect on ventilation or expiratory muscle electrical activity. In two vagotomized dogs, pulmonary edema did not inhibit the expiratory muscles. We conclude that pulmonary edema suppresses abdominal but not thoracic expiratory muscle activity by vagal reflex pathway(s). Extravasation of fluid into the lung appears to be more important than an increase in pulmonary vascular pressure in eliciting this response.  相似文献

A computational method for calculating the dynamic distensibility of the vessel wall in vivo, developed on the basis of the pressure pulse transmission, is proposed. Distensibilities of descending thoracic aorta, abdominal aorta, and femoral artery in normal dogs, and of femoral artery of a typical dog under the action of vasoactive drugs, have been calculated. In femoral artery it is compared with the values of the diameter change/pressure change. Comparison of the results clearly indicate the feasibility of the proposed method. The order of distensibility found is: descending thoracic aorta greater than abdominal aorta greater than femoral artery.  相似文献

The vertebrate body wall is regionalized into thoracic and lumbosacral/abdominal regions that differ in their morphology and developmental origin. The thoracic body wall has ribs and intercostal muscles, which develops from thoracic somites, whereas the abdominal wall has abdominal muscles, which develops from lumbosacral somites without ribs cage. To examine whether limb-genesis interferes with body wall-genesis, and to test the possibility that limb generation leads to the regional differentiation, an ectopic limb was induced in the thoracic region by transplanting prospective limb somatopleural mesoderm of Japanese quail between the ectoderm and somatopleural mesoderm of the chick prospective thoracic region. This ectopic limb generation induced the somitic cells to migrate into the ectopic limb mesenchyme to become its muscles and caused the loss of distal thoracic body wall (sterno-distal rib and distal intercostal muscle), without causing any significant effect on the more proximal region (proximal rib, vertebro-distal rib and proximal intercostal muscle). According to a new primaxial–abaxial classification, the proximal region is classified as primaxial and the distal region, as well as limb, is classified as abaxial. We demonstrated that ectopic limb development interfered with body wall development via its influence on the abaxial somite derivatives. The present study supports the idea that the somitic cells give rise to the primaxial derivatives keeping their own identity and fate, whereas they produce the abaxial derivatives responding to the lateral plate mesoderm.  相似文献

摘要 目的:探讨经右胸三切口与左胸两切口入路对胸中段食管癌患者手术效果、淋巴结转移和远期预后的影响。方法:回顾性分析2013年2月~2015年3月期间我院收治的胸中段食管癌患者90例的临床资料,根据入路方式的不同将患者分为A组(n=44,左胸两切口入路)和B组(n=46,右胸三切口入路),比较两组患者手术效果、淋巴结转移、并发症和远期预后。结果:B组手术时间、住院时间、术后留置胸管时间均长于A组,术中出血量多于A组(P<0.05)。B组淋巴结清扫数多于A组,淋巴结总转移率则低于A组(P<0.05)。两组1年生存率比较差异无统计学意义(P>0.05);B组3年生存率、5年生存率均高于A组(P<0.05)。两组并发症发生率比较差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。结论:与左胸两切口入路相比,胸中段食管癌患者选用经右胸三切口入路,虽术中创伤大,术后恢复略慢,但该入路方式在淋巴结转移率、生存率方面有明显改善,且不增加并发症发生率。  相似文献

Background

Natural orifice transluminal endoscopy has been developed for abdominal surgical procedures. The aim of this study was to compare the surgical outcome between a novel transoral approach and a standard transthoracic approach for the thoracic cavity in a canine model.

Methods

Twenty-eight dogs were assigned to transoral (n = 14) or standard thoracoscopy (n = 14). Each group underwent thoracic exploration, pre-determined surgical lung biopsy, and pericardial window creation. Blood draws were obtained before surgery and at postoperative days 1, 3, 7, and 14. Operative time, complications, laboratory parameters, hemodynamic parameters, and inflammatory parameters were compared between the two procedures. The animals were monitored for two weeks and necropsy were performed for surgical outcome evaluation.

Results

The thoracic procedures were successfully performed in all of the dogs, with the exception of one animal in the transoral group. There were no serious acute or delayed complications related to surgery. There was no difference between the two surgical groups for each of the hemodynamic parameters that were evaluated. Regarding the immunological impact of the surgeries, transoral thoracoscopy was associated with significant elevations in interleukin 6 and c-reactive protein levels on postoperative days 1 and 3, respectively, when compared with the standard thoracoscopy. All dogs recovered well, without signs of mediastinitis or thoracic infection. Necropsy revealed absence of infection, no injury to vital organs, and confirmed the success of the novel procedure.

Conclusions

This study suggests that both techniques were comparable with respect to procedure success rate, hemodynamic impact, and inflammatory changes. Furthermore, there was no difference in the incidence of postoperative discomfort between groups.  相似文献

The Abdominal-B (Abd-B) gene, a member of the bithorax complex (BX-C), specifies the identities of parasegments (PS) 10-14 in Drosophila. Abd-B codes for two structurally related homeodomain proteins, ABD-B m and ABD-B r, that are expressed in PS10-13 and PS14-15, respectively. Although ABD-B m and r proteins have distinct developmental functions, ectopic expression of either protein during embryogenesis induces the development of filzk?rper and associated spiracular hairs, structures normally located in PS13, at ectopic sites in the larval thorax and abdomen. These results suggest that other parasegmental differences contribute to the phenotype specified by ABD-B r activity in PS14. Both ABD-B m and r repress the expression of other homeotic genes, such as Ubx and abd-A, in PS10-14. However, the importance of these and other cross-regulatory interactions among homeotic genes has been questioned. Since ectopic UBX protein apparently failed to transform abdominal segments, González-Reyes et al. (González-Reyes, A., Urquía, N., Gehring, W.J., Struhl, G. and Morata, G. (1990). Nature 344, 78-80) proposed a functional hierarchy in which ABD-A and ABD-B activities override UBX activity. We tested this model by expressing UBX and ABD-B m proteins ectopically in wild-type and BX-C-deficient embryos. Ectopic ABD-B m does not prevent transformations induced by ectopic UBX. Instead, ectopic UBX and ABD-B m proteins compete for the specification of segmental identities in a dose-dependent fashion. Our results support a quantitative competition among the homeotic proteins rather than the existence of a strict functional hierarchy. Therefore, we suggest that cross-regulatory interactions are not irrelevant but are important for repressing the expression of competing homeotic proteins. To explain the apparent failure of ectopic UBX to transform the abdominal segments, we expressed UBX at different times during embryonic development. Our results show that ectopic UBX affects abdominal cuticular identities if expressed during early stages of embryogenesis. In later embryonic stages, abdominal segments become resistant to transformation by ectopic UBX while thoracic segments remain susceptible. Head segments also show a similar stage-dependent susceptibility to transformation by ectopic UBX in early embryogenesis but become resistant in later stages. These results suggest that abdominal and head identities are determined earlier than are thoracic identities.  相似文献

A model of shock was developed in anesthetized dogs by limiting venous return with a balloon inflated in the right atrium. The change in ventilation (VE) in response to a sustained decrease in arterial pressure (Pa) to 50-60 Torr was studied by recording transdiaphragmatic pressure (Pdi) and diaphragm (Edi) and parasternal intercostal (Eic) electrical activity. Four dogs died of cardiac arrest after 20-60 min. In 11 dogs, VE, after an initial increase, decreased progressively until apnea occurred after 103 +/- 24 min, after 60% reductions in breathing frequency, Pdi, and Eic and a 30% fall in Edi. No decrease in diaphragm contractility was found in response to artificial phrenic nerve stimulation. The cardiocirculatory function deteriorated during shock until it became irreversible at apneic time. No recovery from apnea occurred without a recovery of Pa. We conclude that the fall in VE and ensuing apnea in this model resulted from a decrease in central respiratory neural output associated with a progressive deterioration of the cardiocirculatory function.  相似文献

Patients with congenital heart disease of the cyanotic type may be presumed to be candidates for surgical treatment if the examination of the heart reveals compatible findings, particularly murmurs characteristic of an interventricular septal defect, overriding aorta, and pulmonary stenosis; if the electrocardiogram shows right axis deviation; if the x-ray or fluoroscopic study demonstrates decreased pulmonary markings; if Diodrast injection shows right ventricular enlargement, a septal defect, overriding of the aorta, and small pulmonary arteries. In some cases some of these criteria may be missing. If there are not definite contraindications, exploratory thoracotomy is indicated for patients with congenital heart disease causing cyanosis.  相似文献
