ABSTRACT. . A circuit and accompanying program that allow an inexpensive personal computer to replace an expensive storage oscilloscope in displaying electroantennogram (EAG) recording is described. The maximum amplitude of the EAG is calculated automatically by the computer and appears as an alphanumeric display on the monitor screen. Because the entire EAG trace is stored by the computer, parameters of the EAG trace other than the maximum amplitude are also available for analysis, such as voltages at specified times after antennal stimulation.  相似文献

A special-purpose analog computer circuit is described that, given a signal proportional to arterial blood pressure, generates signals equal to systolic, diastolic, pulse, and mean pressure at a calibration of 100 mmHg/V. Heart period and rate are also derived at calibration of 1 s/V and 100 bpm/V, respectively. The outputs are step-function beat-by-beat changes in these six variables suitable either for analog recording, or presentation to a panel meter for digital display.  相似文献

An automated microprocessor-based data acquisition and analysis system has been developed specifically to quantify electromyographic (EMG) activity induced by the convulsant agent catechol in the anaesthetized rat. The stimulus and EMG response are recorded on magnetic tape. On playback, the stimulus triggers a digital oscilloscope and, via interface circuitry, a BBC B microcomputer. The myoelectric activity is digitized by the oscilloscope before being transferred under computer control via a RS232 link to the microcomputer. This system overcomes the problems of dealing with signals of variable latency and allows quantification of latency, amplitude, area and frequency of occurrence of specific components within the signal. The captured data can be used to generate either signal or superimposed high resolution graphic reproductions of the original waveforms. Although this system has been designed for a specific application, it could easily be modified to allow analysis of any complex waveform.  相似文献

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a clinical disorder resulting from the compression of the median nerve. The available evidence regarding the association between computer use and CTS is controversial. There is some evidence that computer mouse or keyboard work, or both are associated with the development of CTS. Despite the availability of pressure measurements in the carpal tunnel during computer work (exposure to keyboard or mouse) there are no available data to support a direct effect of the increased intracarpal canal pressure on the median nerve.  相似文献

An electronic apparatus is described that permits rapid determination of the concentration and size distribution of bacteria in electrolyte suspensions by a resistance method. The resulting size-concentration distribution may be displayed on an oscilloscope and recorded with an XY plotter and an electric typewriter-tape punch unit. The paper tape is analyzed with a computer program. Comparisons are made between electronic measurements of bacterial cell concentration and size distribution and values obtained by other methods. Effects of heat-killing and disruption of the cell membrane on the electrical counting characteristics of the organisms are discussed.  相似文献

Two computer programs for the IBM personal computer are describedfor rapid and accurate entry of DNA sequence data. The DNA sequencefiles produced can be used directly by the DNA sequence manipulationprograms by R. Staden (the DataBase system), the Universityof Wisconsin Genetics Computer Group, DNASTAR, or D. Mount.The first program, DIGISEQ, utilizes a sonic digitizer for semi-automationof sequence entry. To enter the DNA sequence each band of agel reading is touched by the stylus of the sonic digitizer.DIGISEQ corrects for both changes in lane width and lane curvature.The algorithm is extremely efficient and rarely requires re-entenngthe centers of the lanes. The second program, TYPESEQ, usesonly the keyboard for input. The keyboard is reconfigured toplace nucleotides and ambiguity codes under the fingers of onehand, corresponding to the order of the nucleotides on the geldefined by the user Both programs produce individual tones foreach nucleotide, and certain ambiguity codes. This verifiesinput of the correct nucleotide or ambiguity code, and thuseliminates the need to visually check the screen display duringsequence entry. Using a high precision image scanner and a PDP-8/F minicomputer, we have developed a program system for interactive measurements on microscopic images. By giving simple keyboard commands, the operator can run the image scanner and manipulate the digitized images. The interface between the operator and the microscope-computer system is a Tektronix 4010 graphic terminal. The system allows objects to be isolated and parameters to be calculated from each object, e.g., parameters characterizing shape of the object, irregularity in light transmission over the object, area, integrated light transmission, etc. Objects are isolated and parameters are calculated under complete operator control using interactive computer graphics technique. Calculated parameters may be stored in dedicated data records, which are stored in files for later statistical analysis. The system also includes a statistical evaluation part. Technically, the system consists of a command scanner, which translates commands into internal representation, a parser, which checks the syntax of the commands, and an interpreter, which executes the commands. The system is designed so that new commands can be added easily.  相似文献

A Multielectrodic EMG analysis program is developing. The purpose is to get as short as possible the main EMG parameters (amplitude, duration, frequency) of most motor units, and to reach an estimation of the anatomical extent of single units. According to the muscle extent a variable number of electrodes are inserted crosswise the fibers. EMG signals are simultaneously recorded on a multichannel AMPEX FR1300 and then off-line processed by a 21MX HP minicomputer connected with a 5Mbytes disc drive. Some technical problems had to be solved:channel amplification adjustment to avoid any difference among preamplifiers calibration and filtering, severe hum filtering of main power that is specially strong in nultielectrodic recording systems, the need of sampling at the same Nyquist time the signals of different channels. The computer is instructed to identify the "sinchronous" units i.e. the motor units recorded from more than one channel. These motor units are detected, counted and deleted from all the channels, except the one where they show the maximum amplitude. The percentage of these sinchronous units depends upon the interelectrodic distance and their anatomical area, thus it can support an evaluation of motor unit anatomical spread.  相似文献

A data acquisition system is described for recording two independent signals simultaneously from a laser-based flow cytometer for rapid slit-scan chromosome analysis. High-aperture microscope optics allow recording of fluorescence distributions along the longest axis of metaphase chromosomes with a spatial resolution better than 1 micron. Fluorescence and small angle forward light scatter as well as dual-wavelength fluorescence signals from Indian muntjac chromosomes stained with propidium iodide (PI) or acridine orange (AO) have been recorded simultaneously. While maintaining the multi-user operation of the computer, photomultiplier signals are digitized at a rate of 400 signals per second, stored temporarily in high-speed cache memories, and transferred subsequently to a minicomputer for further storage. Extensive software packages for data acquisition, analysis, and display of the results are described. Data acquisition is generally done in list mode, allowing complete reconstruction of individual signals (profiles) at any time. The distribution of stained constituents along the chromosomes can be displayed. Furthermore, histograms of various parameters of the input signals may be generated.  相似文献

A new software for recording, registration and computer analysis of behavior of laboratory animals, EthoStudio, has been developed. The software allows the latency, number and duration of up to 10 behavioral patterns to be simultaneously registered with parallel recording of video on a hard disk. The video records can be played back to track animal locomotion using a computer. EthoStudio was applied to study mouse behavior in the open field test. The numbers of rearings and groomings as well as accumulated time of grooming were interactively assayed by pressing and holding buttons on a computer keyboard. The number of squares crossed, the number of entries into the center and the time spend therein were assayed by computer analysis. EthoStudio can be applied to objectively study various kinds of animal behavior with reliability and accuracy necessary for modern ethological, physiological and pharmacological experiment.  相似文献

A newly developed photoacoustic system for measurement of photosynthetic reactions in intact leaves is described. The system is based on pulsed light-emitting diodes, the pulse program and pulse response analysis being computer controlled. Separation of various components in the overall photoacoustic signal is achieved by curve fitting analysis of the responses following individual measuring light pulses in the millisecond time domain. This procedure is in distinction to the conventionally used analysis in the frequency domain, with the advantage that various signal components are obtained by on-line deconvolution, yielding simultaneous recordings of photothermal (complement of energy storage) and photobaric (evolution and uptake) signals. The basic components of the new system are described by block diagrams and the principal steps for deconvolution of the overall photoacoustic response are outlined. An example of application with simultaneous recording of chlorophyll fluorescence is given. It is apparent that the photobaric uptake component represents a significant part of the overall signal, particularly during induction of photosynthesis after dark-adaptation. ABSTRACT. An inexpensive, portable device which allows measurement of electroantennogram (EAG) maximum amplitudes with a voltmeter instead of an oscilloscope is described. Potential advantages of the device include more rapid recording, low-cost construction of additional EAG recording systems for a laboratory with several users, and portability allowing studies in the field and occasional bench top use. The device is intended for use in conventional EAG recording, where EAG signals with rapid depolarizations are being measured, and where the maximum amplitude of the EAG signal is the only parameter of interest.  相似文献

A method is presented for rapidly extracting single-channel transition rate constants from patch-clamp recordings containing signals from several channels. The procedure is based on a simultaneous fit of the observed dwell-time distributions for all conductance levels, using a maximum likelihood approach. This algorithm allows estimation of single-channel rate constants in cases where more advanced methods may be impractical because of their extremely long computational time. A correction is included for the limited time resolution of the recording system, according to theory developed by Roux and Sauvé (Biophys. J. 48:149-158, 1985), by accounting for the impact of undetected transitions on the dwell-time distributions, and by introducing an improved practical implementation of a fixed dead time for the case of more than one channel. This feature allows application of the method to noisy data, after filtering. A computer program implementing the method is tested successfully on a variety of simulated multichannel current traces.  相似文献

This paper describes for the first time the possibility for recording the systolic pressure (SP), diastolic pressure (DP), and the mean arterial pressure (MAP) as well as the heart rate (HR) and locomotor activity (LA) in freely moving mice, using a commercially available telemetry and data acquisition system. The system comprises a new, small radio-telemetry transmitter implanted in the peritoneal cavity, a receiver board placed underneath the home cage, a multiplexer and a computer-based data acquisition system. The signals from the receiver were consolidated by the multiplexer and were stored and analysed by the computer. The telemetered pressure signals (absolute pressure) were corrected automatically for changes in atmospheric pressure measured by an ambient pressure monitor. The effects of implantation on animal behaviour, and, after the animals had recovered, the effects of handling on the SP, DP, MAP and HR were examined. The radio-telemetry system for recording the SP, DP, MAP and HR provides an accurate and reliable method for monitoring the direct effects of handling on SP, DP, MAP and HR. In addition, by using this new blood pressure (BP) transmitter, we maintain that BP measurements in freely moving mice are more efficient, reliable, and less labour-intensive than the measurement techniques described in the literature thus far.  相似文献

Purpose

The increase in tablet usage allows people to perform computer work in non-traditional office environments. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of changes in tablet keyboard design on postures of the upper extremities and neck, discomfort, and usability under different usage positions during prolonged touch-typing.

Methods

Eighteen healthy participants familiar with touch-screen devices were randomized into three usage positions (desk, lap, and bed) and completed six, 60-minute typing sessions using three virtual keyboard designs (standard, wide, split). Electrogoniometers continuously measured the postures of the wrists, elbow, and neck. Body discomfort and system usability were evaluated by questionnaires before and immediately after each typing session.

Results

Separate linear mixed effects models on various postural measures and subjective ratings are conducted with usage position as the between-subject factors, keyboard design and typing duration as the with-in subject factors were conducted. Using the tablet in bed led to more extended wrists but a more natural elbow flexion than the desk position. The angled split virtual keyboard significantly reduced the extent of wrist ulnar deviation than the keyboard with either standard or wide design. However, little difference was observed across the usage position and keyboard design. When the postural data were compared between the middle and end of typing sessions, the wrists, elbow, and neck all exhibited a substantially increased range of joint movements (13% to 38%). The discomfort rating also increased significantly over time in every upper body region investigated. Additionally, the split keyboard design received a higher usability rating in the bed position, whereas participants had more satisfactory experience while using the wide keyboard in the traditional desk setting.

Conclusions

Prolonged use of tablets in non-traditional office environments may result in awkward postures in the upper body that may expose users to greater risks of developing musculoskeletal symptoms. Adequate virtual keyboard designs show the potential to alleviate some postural effects and improve the user experience without changing the tablet form factors.  相似文献

A rapid, portable, yet inexpensive and expandable computer-based system utilizing current technology has been developed from experience in the operating room. An efficient operating system well suited for surgery is defined. New technology recording arrays fabricated from multielectrode flexible Kapton strips were developed and found to be easy to use and highly reliable. Novel arrays are created easily for research or special clinical applications. The system displays all incoming data in real time and transfers 16-s epochs to disk on command. After the user defines a beat for analysis, the computer determines the activation time for each channel, rejects unsatisfactory channels, and displays the results for review and modification before plotting the isochronal map on the monitor. The average time to recall data and produce a map is 16 s; if manual review of 120 channels is included, mapping time is less than 4 min. Clinical data recorded during surgery are discussed. The speed and operational ease demonstrated in the operating room make this computer/electrode system valuable both for surgery and for elucidating basic mechanisms of arrhythmias.  相似文献

In this paper, a calibration method to compensate for changes in SEMG amplitude with joint angle is introduced. Calibration factors were derived from constant amplitude surface electromyogram (SEMG) recordings from the biceps brachii (during elbow flexion) and the triceps brachii (during elbow extension) across seven elbow joint angles. SEMG data were then recorded from the elbow flexors (biceps brachii and brachioradialis) and extensors (triceps brachii) during isometric, constant force flexion and extension contractions at the same joint angles. The resulting force at the wrist was measured. The fast orthogonal search method was used to find a mapping between the system inputs – estimated SEMG amplitudes and joint angle – and the system output – measured force, for both calibrated and non-calibrated SEMG data. Models developed with calibrated data yielded a statistically significant improvement in force estimation compared to models developed with non-calibrated data, suggesting that the calibration method can compensate for changes in the SEMG–force relationship with changing joint angle. It was also found that the number of non-linear, joint angle-dependent terms used in the SEMG–force model was reduced with calibration. Additionally, initial inter-session analysis performed for four subjects suggests that calibration values can be used for subsequent recording sessions, and different output force levels.  相似文献

In order to quantify the collapse phenomenon in veins, this paper presents a mathematical analysis of the cross-sectional shape of a flexible tube as its internal pressure varies. Quantitative results are presented in terms of the physical parameters of the tube, such as wall thickness and Young's modulus. It is assumed that the tube is thin walled, that no stretching occurs, that the cross-sectional shape is elliptical when the transmural pressure is zero, and that the longitudinal prestress is zero. The equations were solved on a digital computer which displayed the cross-sectional shapes on an oscilloscope, which were then photographed. A selection of these photographs is presented. Curves are shown which give the cross-sectional area and compliance as functions of transmural pressure. Other curves are shown which are useful for interpolation, and for use in the experimental determination of the physical parameters which may otherwise be difficult or impossible to measure accurately.  相似文献

A method for the representation of EEG-parameters by means of a bidimensional plot of two signals is described. A block diagram is given for the recording of figures with phase-sensitive parameter variations, using an oscilloscope or an X-Y graphic recorder as a display. Charts for the determination of the setting parameters of a digital as well as an analog phase-shifting arrangement are submitted. The method is capable of reflecting individual properties of a single wave and typical characteristics of the epoch as well. It is felt that it may be of benefit in the immediate estimation of EEG-activity changes.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A new portable digital sound emitter (DSE) for normal and interactive playback of sound signals in the field and in the laboratory is described together with two examples of applications of the DSE in interactive field experiments. The DSE may be loaded with a broad spectrum of digitised sounds, e.g. artificial signals or natural animal vocalisations, and it is controlled via the keyboard of a portable PC running a dedicated program. This program, which can be tailored to support a vast number of different demands, enables the experimenter to start and stop the analog output from the DSE at any time and to choose freely between the available sounds and playback modes. The use of the DSE for interactive playback experiments therefore is only limited by the ability of the operator to perceive the vocalisations of the participating animal and to operate the keyboard of the PC.  相似文献
