The purpose of this study was to evaluate the maximal oxygen uptake (Vo(2)max) values in soccer players as assessed by field and laboratory tests. Thirty-five elite young soccer players were studied (mean age 18.1 +/- 1.0 years, training duration 8.3 +/- 1.5 years) in the middle of the playing season. All subjects performed 2 maximal field tests: the Yo-Yo endurance test (T(1)) for the estimation of Vo(2)max according to normogram values, and the Yo-Yo intermittent endurance test (T(2)) using portable telemetric ergospirometry; as well as 2 maximal exercise tests on the treadmill with continuous (T(3)) and intermittent (T(4)) protocols. The estimated Vo(2)max values of the T(1) test (56.33 ml.kg(-1).min(-1)) were 10.5%, 11.4%, and 13.3% (p < or = 0.05) lower than those of the T(2) (62.96 ml.kg(-1).min(-1)), T(3) (63.59 ml.kg(-1).min(-1)) and T(4) (64.98 ml.kg(-1).min(-1)) tests, respectively. Significant differences were also found between the intermittent exercise protocols T(1) and T(3) (p < or = 0.001) and the continuous exercise protocols T(2) and T(4) (p < or = 0.001). There was a high degree of cross correlation between the Vo(2)max values of the 3 ergospirometric tests (T(2) versus T(3), r = 0.47, p < or = 0.005; T(2) versus T(4), r = 0.59, p < or = 0.001; T(3) versus T(4) r = 0.79, p < or = 0.001). It is necessary to use ergospirometry to accurately estimate aerobic capacity in soccer players. Nevertheless, the Yo-Yo field tests should be used by coaches because they are easy and helpful tools in the training program setting and for player follow-up during the playing season.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine if inspiratory muscle training (IMT) alters the oxygen cost of breathing (Vo(2RM)) during voluntary hyperpnea. Sixteen male cyclists completed 6 wk of IMT using an inspiratory load of 50% (IMT) or 15% placebo (CON) of maximal inspiratory pressure (Pi(max)). Prior to training, a maximal incremental cycle ergometer test was performed to determine Vo(2) and ventilation (V(E)) at multiple workloads. Pre- and post-training, subjects performed three separate 4-min bouts of voluntary eucapnic hyperpnea (mimic), matching V(E) that occurred at 50, 75, and 100% of Vo(2 max). Pi(max) was significantly increased (P < 0.05) by 22.5 ± 8.7% from pre- to post-IMT and remained unchanged in the CON group. The Vo(2RM) required during the mimic trial corresponded to 5.1 ± 2.5, 5.7 ± 1.4, and 11.7% ± 2.5% of the total Vo(2) (Vo(2T)) at ventilatory workloads equivalent to 50, 75, and 100% of Vo(2 max), respectively. Following IMT, the Vo(2RM) requirement significantly decreased (P < 0.05) by 1.5% (4.2 ± 1.4% of Vo(2T)) at 75% Vo(2 max) and 3.4% (8.1 ± 3.5% of Vo(2T)) at 100% Vo(2 max). No significant changes were shown in the CON group. IMT significantly reduced the O(2) cost of voluntary hyperpnea, which suggests that a reduction in the O(2) requirement of the respiratory muscles following a period of IMT may facilitate increased O(2) availability to the active muscles during exercise. These data suggest that IMT may reduce the O(2) cost of ventilation during exercise, providing an insight into mechanism(s) underpinning the reported improvements in whole body endurance performance; however, this awaits further investigation.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to examine the influence of 3 different high-intensity interval training regimens on the first and second ventilatory thresholds (VT(1) and VT(2)), anaerobic capacity (ANC), and plasma volume (PV) in well-trained endurance cyclists. Before and after 2 and 4 weeks of training, 38 well-trained cyclists (Vo(2)peak = 64.5 +/- 5.2 ml.kg(-1).min(-1)) performed (a) a progressive cycle test to measure Vo(2)peak, peak power output (PPO), VT(1), and VT(2); (b) a time to exhaustion test (T(max)) at their Vo(2)peak power output (P(max)); and (c) a 40-km time-trial (TT(40)). Subjects were assigned to 1 of 4 training groups (group 1: n = 8, 8 x 60% T(max) at P(max), 1:2 work-recovery ratio; group 2: n = 9, 8 x 60% T(max) at P(max), recovery at 65% maximum heart rate; group 3: n = 10, 12 x 30 seconds at 175% PPO, 4.5-minute recovery; control group: n = 11). The TT(40) performance, Vo(2)peak, VT(1), VT(2), and ANC were all significantly increased in groups 1, 2, and 3 (p < 0.05) but not in the control group. However, PV did not change in response to the 4-week training program. Changes in TT(40) performance were modestly related to the changes in Vo(2)peak, VT(1), VT(2), and ANC (r = 0.41, 0.34, 0.42, and 0.40, respectively; all p < 0.05). In conclusion, the improvements in TT(40) performance were related to significant increases in Vo(2)peak, VT(1), VT(2), and ANC but were not accompanied by significant changes in PV. Thus, peripheral adaptations rather than central adaptations are likely responsible for the improved performances witnessed in well-trained endurance athletes following various forms of high-intensity interval training programs.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of wearing a cooling jacket on thermoregulatory responses and endurance exercise performance in a warm environment. Nine untrained male subjects cycled for 60 minutes at 60% Vo(2)max (Ex1) and then immediately exercised to exhaustion at 80% Vo(2)max (Ex2) in 32.0 +/- 0.2 degrees C and 70-80% relative humidity. Four separate conditions were set during exercise: no water intake (NW), water intake (W), wearing a cooling jacket (C) and the combination of C and W (C+W). Rectal temperatures (T(re)) before Ex1 were not different between the 4 conditions, whereas at the end of Ex1 T(re) of C+W was significantly lower than the C and W (p < 0.05). Mean skin temperature (T(sk)) was significantly lower in C and C+W than the NW and W during Ex1. Heart rate of C and C+W were significantly lower than the NW and W, and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) in C+W was lower than in the other conditions. Exercise time to exhaustion was significantly longer in C+W than in the other conditions (NW < W, C < C+W; p < 0.05), whereas T(re) at exhaustion was not different. Our results indicate that the combination of wearing a cooling jacket and water intake enhances exercise endurance performance in a warm environment because of a widened temperature margin before the critical limiting temperature is reached and also because of decreased thermoregulatory and cardiovascular strain.  相似文献

To determine the relation between habitual endurance exercise status and the age-associated decline in maximal aerobic capacity [i.e., maximal O(2) consumption (Vo(2 max))] in men, we performed a well-controlled cross-sectional laboratory study on 153 healthy men aged 20-75 yr: 64 sedentary and 89 endurance trained. Vo(2 max) (ml. kg(-1). min(-1)), measured by maximal treadmill exercise, was inversely related to age in the endurance-trained (r = -0.80) and sedentary (r = -0.74) men but was higher in the endurance-trained men at any age. The rate of decline in Vo(2 max) with age (ml. kg(-1). min(-1)) was greater (P < 0.001) in the endurance-trained than in the sedentary men. Whereas the relative rate of decline in Vo(2 max) (percent decrease per decade from baseline levels in young adulthood) was similar in the two groups, the absolute rate of decline in Vo(2 max) was -5.4 and -3.9 ml. kg(-1). min(-). decade(-1) in the endurance-trained and sedentary men, respectively. Vo(2 max) declined linearly across the age range in the sedentary men but was maintained in the endurance-trained men until approximately 50 yr of age. The accelerated decline in Vo(2 max) after 50 yr of age in the endurance-trained men was related to a decline in training volume (r = 0.46, P < 0.0001) and was associated with an increase in 10-km running time (r = -0.84, P < 0.0001). We conclude that the rate of decline in maximal aerobic capacity during middle and older age is greater in endurance-trained men than in their sedentary peers and is associated with a marked decline in O(2) pulse.  相似文献

The present study examined the effect of previous severe exercise upon (i) respiratory exchange during maximal exercise, and (ii) the respiratory Vco2/Vo2 exchange ratio (R) as a predictor of maximum oxygen uptake (Vo2max). Thirteen healthy males performed a progressive treadmill test to Vo2max: at rest (T1); after a 1 h run on the level treadmill at a speed corresponding 82.4 +/- 7.3% of their Vo2max (T2); after 1 h recovery (T3); and after 24 h recovery (T4). Respiratory gases were continuously monitored. No changes in average work Vo2, Vo2max or maximum heart rate were found between trials. Average work Vco2 was lower in T2 (2.055 +/- 0.093 1.min-1, p less than 0.001), T3 (2.080 +/- 0.087 1.min-1, p less than 0.001) and T4 (2.337 +/- 0.154 1.min-1, NS) compared with T1 (2.360 +/- 0.147 1.min-1). This resulted in lower average R values in T2 (0.81 +/- 0.02, p less than 0.001), T3 (0.83 +/- 0.02, p less than 0.001) and T4 (0.94 +/- 0.02, NS) in relation to T1 (0.95 +/- 0.02). Analysis of the %Vo2max/R relationship over the final 5 min of each test showed a shift to the left during T2 (p less than 0.001), T3 (p less than 0.001) and T4 (NS) compared with T1. As a result predictions of Vo2max based on R (Vo2max/R) were similar to recorded Vo2max in T1 (+ 0.6%) and T4 (+ 2.2%). Inspiring a hyperoxic (H) gas permits subjects to exercise at higher power outputs while training, but there is controversy as to whether this improves skeletal muscle oxidative capacity, maximal O(2) consumption (Vo(2 max)), and endurance performance to a greater extent than training in normoxia (N). To determine whether the higher power output during H training leads to a greater increase in these parameters, nine recreationally active subjects were randomly assigned in a single-blind fashion to train in H (60% O(2)) or N for 6 wk (3 sessions/wk of 10 x 4 min at 90% Vo(2 max)). Training heart rate (HR) was maintained during the study by increasing power output. After at least 6 wk of detraining, a second 6-wk training protocol was completed with the other breathing condition. Vo(2 max) and cycle time to exhaustion at 90% of pretraining Vo(2 max) were tested in room air pre- and posttraining. Muscle biopsies were sampled pre- and posttraining for citrate synthase (CS), beta-hydroxyacyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase (beta-HAD), and mitochondrial aspartate aminotransferase (m-AsAT) activity measurements. Training power outputs were 8% higher (17 W) in H vs. N. However, both conditions produced similar improvements in Vo(2 max) (11-12%); time to exhaustion (approximately 100%); and CS (H, 30%; N, 32%), beta-HAD (H, 23%; N, 21%), and m-AsAT (H, 21%; N, 26%) activities. We conclude that the additional training stimulus provided by training in H was not sufficient to produce greater increases in the aerobic capacity of skeletal muscle and whole body Vo(2 max) and exercise performance compared with training in N.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between several physical fitness parameters and eyesight divided into 3 grades in visually handicapped boys and young male adults, and to investigate the effect of mild exercise training on physical and psychic symptoms as well as cardiorespiratory fitness. Four subjects were totally blind (TB), 6 were semi-blind (SB) and 27 had amblyopia (AM). Physical fitness tests consisted of maximal oxygen uptake (Vo2max), maximal pedalling speed and power, maximal stepping rate, and isometric knee extension strength. Compared with AM and SB groups, the TB group was inferior in all physical fitness parameters. Especially, Vo2max, in TB (26 ml.kg-1.min-1) was about 56% of that in age-matched Japanese sighted subjects and was significantly low compared with the AM and SB groups. Both muscle strength and maximal pedalling power corresponded to about 50% that of the age-matched sighted group. Six SB and 4 TB students (mean = 17.7 years) were trained for 6 weeks on a bicycle ergometer at an intensity of 50% VO2max. Training was undertaken for 3 days per week and maintained for 60 min per session. After training, physical and psychic symptoms determined by the Cornell Medical Index improved significantly. These results indicate that low physical work capacity in visually handicapped boys and young male adults is due to the lack of physical activity, and that mild endurance training is effective in improving physical and psychic symptoms as well as cardiorespiratory fitness.  相似文献

The purposes of the present study were to (a) modify previously published Vo(2)max equations using the constant error (CE = mean difference between actual and predicted Vo(2)max) values from Malek et al. (28); (b) cross-validate the modified equations to determine their accuracy for estimating Vo(2)max in aerobically trained men; (c) derive a new non- exercise-based equation for estimating Vo(2)max in aerobically trained men if the modified equations are not found to be accurate; and (d) cross-validate the new Vo(2)max equation using the predicted residual sum of squares (PRESS) statistic and an independent sample of aerobically trained men. One hundred and fifty-two aerobically trained men (Vo(2)max mean +/- SD = 4,154 +/- 629 ml.min(-1)) performed a maximal incremental test on a cycle ergometer to determine actual Vo(2)max. An aerobically trained man was defined as someone who had participated in continuous aerobic exercise 3 or more sessions per week for a minimum of 1 hour per session for at least the past 18 months. Nine previously published Vo(2)max equations were modified for use with aerobically trained men. The predicted Vo(2)max values from the 9 modified equations were compared to actual Vo(2)max by examining the CE, standard error of estimate (SEE), validity coefficient (r), and total error (TE). Cross-validation of the modified non-exercise-based equations on a random subsample of 50 subjects resulted in a %TE > or = 13% of the mean of actual Vo(2)max. Therefore, the following non-exercise-based Vo(2)max equation was derived from a random subsample of 112 subjects: Vo(2)max (ml.min(-1)) = 27.387(weight in kg) + 26.634(height in cm) - 27.572(age in years) + 26.161(h.wk(-1) of training) + 114.904(intensity of training using the Borg 6-20 scale) + 506.752(natural log of years of training) - 4,609.791 (R = 0.82, R(2) adjusted = 0.65, and SEE = 378 ml.min(-1)). Cross-validation of this equation on the remaining sample of 40 subjects resulted in a %TE of 10%. Therefore, the non-exercise-based equation derived in the present study is recommended for estimating Vo(2)max in aerobically trained men.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to describe the longitudinal (10 yr) decline in aerobic power [maximal O(2) uptake (Vo(2 max))] and anaerobic threshold [ventilatory threshold (T(Ve))] of older adults living independently in the community. Ten years after initial testing, 62 subjects (34 men, mean age 73.5 +/- 6.4 yr; 28 women, 72.1 +/- 5.3 yr) achieved Vo(2 max) criteria during treadmill walking tests to the limit of tolerance, with T(Ve) determined in a subset of 45. Vo(2 max) in men showed a rate of decline of -0.43 ml.kg(-1).min(-1).yr(-1), and the decline in Vo(2 max) was consequent to a lowered maximal heart rate with no change in the maximum O(2) pulse. The women showed a slower rate of decline of Vo(2 max) of -0.19.ml.kg(-1).min(-1).yr(-1) (P < 0.05), again with a lowered HR(max) and unchanged O(2) pulse. In this sample, lean body mass was not changed over the 10-yr period. Changes in Vo(2 max) were not significantly related to physical activity scores. T(Ve) showed a nonsignificant decline in both men and women. Groupings of young-old (65-72 yr at follow-up) vs. old-old (73-90 yr at follow-up) were examined. In men, there were no differences in the rate of Vo(2 max) decline. The young-old women showed a significant decline in Vo(2 max), whereas old-old women, initially at a Vo(2 max) of 19.4 +/- 3.1 ml.kg(-1).min(-1), showed no loss in Vo(2 max). The longitudinal data, vs. cross-sectional analysis, showed a greater decline for men but similar estimates of the rates of change in women. Thus the 10-yr longitudinal study of the cohort of community-dwelling older adults who remained healthy, ambulatory, and independent showed a 14% decline in Vo(2 max) in men, and a smaller decline of 7% in women, with the oldest women showing little change over the 10-yr period.  相似文献

There are reports of abnormal pulmonary oxygen uptake (Vo(2)) and deoxygenated hemoglobin ([HHb]) kinetics in individuals with Type 2 diabetes (T2D) below 50 yr of age with disease durations of <5 yr. We examined the Vo(2) and muscle [HHb] kinetics in 12 older T2D patients with extended disease durations (age: 65 ± 5 years; disease duration 9.3 ± 3.8 years) and 12 healthy age-matched control participants (CON; age: 62 ± 6 years). Maximal oxygen uptake (Vo(2max)) was determined via a ramp incremental cycle test and Vo(2) and [HHb] kinetics were determined during subsequent submaximal step exercise. The Vo(2max) was significantly reduced (P < 0.05) in individuals with T2D compared with CON (1.98 ± 0.43 vs. 2.72 ± 0.40 l/min, respectively) but, surprisingly, Vo(2) kinetics was not different in T2D compared with CON (phase II time constant: 43 ± 17 vs. 41 ± 12 s, respectively). The Δ[HHb]/ΔVo(2) was significantly higher in T2D compared with CON (235 ± 99 vs. 135 ± 33 AU·l(-1)·min(-1); P < 0.05). Despite a lower Vo(2max), Vo(2) kinetics is not different in older T2D compared with healthy age-matched control participants. The elevated Δ[HHb]/ΔVo(2) in T2D individuals possibly indicates a compromised muscle blood flow that mandates a greater O(2) extraction during exercise. Longer disease duration may result in adaptations in the O(2) extraction capabilities of individuals with T2D, thereby mitigating the expected age-related slowing of Vo(2) kinetics.  相似文献

The effect of iron deficiency on work capacity was studied in groups of rats that had received diets with iron contents ranging between 9 and 50 mg/kg diet from 3 to 6 wk of age. Maximal O2 consumption (VO2max) declined only 16% with a decrease in hemoglobin (Hb) from 14 to 8 g/dl and fell sharply only below a Hb of 7 g/dl. Duration until exhaustion in a treadmill exercise of submaximal intensity (endurance) showed no significant depression between a Hb of 14 and 10 g/dl. However, endurance declined abruptly by 73% between a Hb of 10 and 8 g/dl. The VO2max results are in accord with known compensatory mechanisms that help to maintain delivery of O2 to tissues until anemia becomes severe. The sharp fall in endurance with relatively mild iron deficiency suggests a lack of similarly effective compensations for decreased oxidative capacity of muscle.  相似文献

We compared the effects of exercise intensity (EI) on bone metabolism during and for 4 days after acute, weight-bearing endurance exercise. Ten males [mean ± SD maximum oxygen uptake (Vo(2max)): 56.2 ± 8.1 ml·min(-1)·kg(-1)] completed three counterbalanced 8-day trials. Following three control days, on day 4, subjects completed 60 min of running at 55%, 65%, and 75% Vo(2max). Markers of bone resorption [COOH-terminal telopeptide region of collagen type 1 (β-CTX)] and formation [NH(2)-terminal propeptides of procollagen type 1 (P1NP), osteocalcin (OC), bone-alkaline phosphatase (ALP)], osteoprotegerin (OPG), parathyroid hormone (PTH), albumin-adjusted calcium (ACa), phosphate (PO(4)), and cortisol were measured during and for 3 h after exercise and on four follow-up days (FU1-FU4). At 75% Vo(2max), β-CTX was not significantly increased from baseline by exercise but was higher compared with 55% (17-19%, P < 0.01) and 65% (11-13%, P < 0.05) Vo(2max) in the first hour postexercise. Concentrations were decreased from baseline in all three groups by 39-42% (P < 0.001) at 3 h postexercise but not thereafter. P1NP increased (P < 0.001) during exercise only, while bone-ALP was increased (P < 0.01) at FU3 and FU4, but neither were affected by EI. PTH and cortisol increased (P < 0.001) with exercise at 75% Vo(2max) only and were higher (P < 0.05) than at 55% and 65% Vo(2max) during and immediately after exercise. The increases (P < 0.001) in OPG, ACa, and PO(4) with exercise were not affected by EI. Increasing EI from 55% to 75% Vo(2max) during 60 min of running resulted in higher β-CTX concentrations in the first hour postexercise but had no effect on bone formation markers. Increased bone-ALP concentrations at 3 and 4 days postexercise suggest a beneficial effect of this type of exercise on bone mineralization. The increase in OPG was not influenced by exercise intensity, whereas PTH was increased at 75% Vo(2max) only, which cannot be fully explained by changes in serum calcium or PO(4) concentrations.  相似文献

Quechua in the Andes may be genetically adapted to altitude and able to resist decrements in maximal O2 consumption in hypoxia (DeltaVo2 max). This hypothesis was tested via repeated measures of Vo2 max (sea level vs. 4338 m) in 30 men of mixed Spanish and Quechua origins. Individual genetic admixture level (%Spanish ancestry) was estimated by using ancestry-informative DNA markers. Genetic admixture explained a significant proportion of the variability in DeltaVo2 max after control for covariate effects, including sea level Vo2 max and the decrement in arterial O2 saturation measured at Vo2 max (DeltaSpO2 max) (R2 for admixture and covariate effects approximately 0.80). The genetic effect reflected a main effect of admixture on DeltaVo2 max (P = 0.041) and an interaction between admixture and DeltaSpO2 max (P = 0.018). Admixture predicted DeltaVo2 max only in subjects with a large DeltaSpO2 max (P = 0.031). In such subjects, DeltaVo2 max was 12-18% larger in a subgroup of subjects with high vs. low Spanish ancestry, with least squares mean values (+/-SE) of 739 +/- 71 vs. 606 +/- 68 ml/min, respectively. A trend for interaction (P = 0.095) was also noted between admixture and the decrease in ventilatory threshold at 4338 m. As previously, admixture predicted DeltaVo2 max only in subjects with a large decrease in ventilatory threshold. These findings suggest that the genetic effect on DeltaVo2 max depends on a subject's aerobic fitness. Genetic effects may be more important (or easier to detect) in athletic subjects who are more likely to show gas-exchange impairment during exercise. The results of this study are consistent with the evolutionary hypothesis and point to a better gas-exchange system in Quechua.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the sequence order of high-intensity endurance training and circuit training on changes in muscular strength and anaerobic power. Forty-eight physical education students (ages, 21.4 +/- 1.3 years) were assigned to 1 of 5 groups: no training controls (C, n = 9), endurance training (E, n = 10), circuit training (S, n = 9), endurance before circuit training in the same session, (E+S, n = 10), and circuit before endurance training in the same session (S+E, n = 10). Subjects performed 2 sessions per week for 12 weeks. Resistance-type circuit training targeted strength endurance (weeks 1-6) and explosive strength and power (weeks 7-12). Endurance training sessions included 5 repetitions run at the velocity associated with Vo2max (Vo2max) for a duration equal to 50% of the time to exhaustion at Vo2max; recovery was for an equal period at 60% Vo2max. Maximal strength in the half squat, strength endurance in the 1-leg half squat and hip extension, and explosive strength and power in a 5-jump test and countermovement jump were measured pre- and post-testing. No significant differences were shown following training between the S+E and E+S groups for all exercise tests. However, both S+E and E+S groups improved less than the S group in 1 repetition maximum (p < 0.01), right and left 1-leg half squat (p < 0.02), 5-jump test (p < 0.01), peak jumping force (p < 0.05), peak jumping power (p < 0.02), and peak jumping height (p < 0.05). The intrasession sequence did not influence the adaptive response of muscular strength and explosive strength and power. Circuit training alone induced strength and power improvements that were significantly greater than when resistance and endurance training were combined, irrespective of the intrasession sequencing.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of exercise on extravascular lung water as it may relate to pulmonary gas exchange. Ten male humans underwent measures of maximal oxygen uptake (Vo2 max) in two conditions: normoxia (N) and normobaric hypoxia of 15% O2 (H). Lung density was measured by quantified MRI before and 48.0 +/- 7.4 and 100.7 +/- 15.1 min following 60 min of cycling exercise in N (intensity = 61.6 +/- 9.5% Vo2 max) and 55.5 +/- 9.8 and 104.3 +/- 9.1 min following 60 min cycling exercise in H (intensity = 65.4 +/- 7.1% hypoxic Vo2 max), where Vo2 max = 65.0 +/- 7.5 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1) (N) and 54.1 +/- 7.0 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1) (H). Two subjects demonstrated mild exercise-induced arterial hypoxemia (EIAH) [minimum arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2 min) = 94.5% and 93.8%], and seven subjects demonstrated moderate EIAH (SaO2 min = 91.4 +/- 1.1%) as measured noninvasively during the Vo2 max test in N. Mean lung densities, measured once preexercise and twice postexercise, were 0.177 +/- 0.019, 0.181 +/- 0.019, and 0.173 +/- 0.019 g/ml (N) and 0.178 +/- 0.021, 0.174 +/- 0.022, and 0.176 +/- 0.019 g/ml (H), respectively. No significant differences (P > 0.05) were found in lung density following exercise in either condition or between conditions. Transient interstitial pulmonary edema did not occur following sustained steady-state cycling exercise in N or H, indicating that transient edema does not result from pulmonary capillary leakage during sustained submaximal exercise.  相似文献

Plasma glucose and muscle glycogen oxidation during prolonged exercise [75-min at 48 and 76% maximal O(2) uptake (Vo(2 max))] were measured in eight well-trained male subjects [Vo(2 max) = 4.50 l/min (SD 0.63)] using a simplified tracer technique in which a small amount of glucose highly enriched in (13)C was ingested: plasma glucose oxidation was computed from (13)C/(12)C in plasma glucose (which was stable beginning at minute 30 and minute 15 during exercise at 48 and 76% Vo(2 max), respectively) and (13)CO(2) production, and muscle glycogen oxidation was estimated by subtracting plasma glucose oxidation from total carbohydrate oxidation. Consistent data from the literature suggest that this small dose of exogenous glucose does not modify muscle glycogen oxidation and has little effect, if any, on plasma glucose oxidation. The percent contributions of plasma glucose and muscle glycogen oxidation to the energy yield at 48% Vo(2 max) [15.1% (SD 3.8) and 45.9% (SD 5.8)] and at 76% Vo(2 max) [15.4% (SD 3.6) and 59.8% (SD 9.2)] were well in line with data previously reported for similar work loads and exercise durations using conventional tracer techniques. The significant reduction in glycogen concentration measured from pre- and postexercise vastus lateralis muscle biopsies paralleled muscle glycogen oxidation calculated using the tracer technique and was larger at 76% than at 48% Vo(2 max). However, the correlation coefficients between these two estimates of muscle glycogen utilization were not different from zero at each of the two work loads. The simplified tracer technique used in the present experiment appears to be a valid alternative approach to the traditional tracer techniques for computing plasma glucose and muscle glycogen oxidation during prolonged exercise.  相似文献

The present investigation examined the physiological parameters that contribute to 3-km running performance. Following 2 familiarization sessions, 16 experienced male triathletes (Vo(2)max = 55.7 +/- 4.9 ml.kg(-1).min(-1), age = 31.3 +/- 11.7 years) performed a 3-km time trial (3kmTT) and were assessed for selected physiological and anthropometrical characteristics. Stepwise multiple regression and correlation analysis was used to determine the variables that significantly related to 3kmTT. The analysis revealed that 82.3% of the adjusted variance in 3kmTT performance could be explained by peak treadmill running velocity during a Vo(2)max test (Vmax) alone. The addition of the running velocity at lactate threshold (LT(vel)) and peak lactate concentration ([BLa(-)](peak)) to the prediction equation allowed for 93.6% of the adjusted variance in 3kmTT to be predicted (Y = -13.64 Vmax - 25.61 LT(vel) - 5.40 [BLa(-)](peak) + 1358.5). Correlation analysis revealed that Vmax (r = -0.91), LT(vel) (r = -0.90), and Vo(2)max (r = -0.80) were significantly related to running performance. These results show that Vmax was the single best predictor of 3-km running performance in experienced male triathletes and that both aerobic and anaerobic abilities are related to improved 3kmTT performance. Since the assessment of Vmax is relatively simple to implement, we suggest that determining Vmax may be a practical method for monitoring performance changes in short-term endurance running events.  相似文献

Lung diffusing capacity has been reported variably in high-altitude newcomers and may be in relation to different pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR). Twenty-two healthy volunteers were investigated at sea level and at 5,050 m before and after random double-blind intake of the endothelin A receptor blocker sitaxsentan (100 mg/day) vs. a placebo during 1 wk. PVR was estimated by Doppler echocardiography, and exercise capacity by maximal oxygen uptake (Vo(2 max)). The diffusing capacities for nitric oxide (DL(NO)) and carbon monoxide (DL(CO)) were measured using a single-breath method before and 30 min after maximal exercise. The membrane component of DL(CO) (Dm) and capillary volume (Vc) was calculated with corrections for hemoglobin, alveolar volume, and barometric pressure. Altitude exposure was associated with unchanged DL(CO), DL(NO), and Dm but a slight decrease in Vc. Exercise at altitude decreased DL(NO) and Dm. Sitaxsentan intake improved Vo(2 max) together with an increase in resting and postexercise DL(NO) and Dm. Sitaxsentan-induced decrease in PVR was inversely correlated to DL(NO). Both DL(CO) and DL(NO) were correlated to Vo(2 max) at sea level (r = 0.41-0.42, P < 0.1) and more so at altitude (r = 0.56-0.59, P < 0.05). Pharmacological pulmonary vasodilation improves the membrane component of lung diffusion in high-altitude newcomers, which may contribute to exercise capacity.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine whether the heart rate (HR) deflection point (HRDP) in the HR-power relationship is concomitant with the maximal stroke volume (SV(max)) value achievement in endurance-trained subjects. Twenty-two international male cyclists (30.3 +/- 7.3 yr, 179.7 +/- 7.2 cm, 71.3 +/- 5.5 kg) undertook a graded cycling exercise (50 W every 3 min) in the upright position. Thoracic impedance was used to measure continuously the HR and stroke volume (SV) values. The HRDP was estimated by the third-order curvilinear regression method. As a result, 72.7% of the subjects (HRDP group, n = 16) presented a break point in their HR-work rate curve at 89.9 +/- 2.8% of their maximal HR value. The SV value increased until 78.0 +/- 9.3% of the power associated with maximal O(2) uptake (Vo(2 max)) in the HRDP group, whereas it increased until 94.4 +/- 8.6% of the power associated with Vo(2 max) in six other subjects (no-HRDP group, P = 0.004). Neither SV(max) (ml/beat or ml.beat(-1).m(-2)) nor Vo(2 max) (ml/min or ml.kg(-1).min(-1)) were different between both groups. However, SV significantly decreased before exhaustion in the HRDP group (153 +/- 44 vs. 144 +/- 40 ml/beat, P = 0.005). In the HRDP group, 62% of the variance in the power associated with the SV(max) could also be predicted by the power output at which HRDP appeared. In conclusion, in well-trained subjects, the power associated with the SV(max)-HRDP relationship supposed that the HR deflection coincided with the optimal cardiac work for which SV(max) was attained.  相似文献
