It has been overlooked that the change of hardness, η, upon bonding is intimately connected to thermochemical cycles, which determine whether hardness is increased according to Pearson’s “maximum hardness principle” (MHP) or equalized, as expected by Datta’s “hardness equalization principle” (HEP). So far the performances of these likely incompatible “structural principles” have not been compared. Computational validations have been inconclusive because the hardness values and even their qualitative trends change drastically and unsystematically at different levels of theory. Here I elucidate the physical basis of both rules, and shed new light on them from an elementary experimental source. The difference, Δη = η mol – <η at>, of the molecular hardness, η mol, and the averaged atomic hardness, <η at>, is determined by thermochemical cycles involving the bond dissociation energies D of the molecule, D + of its cation, and D ? of its anion. Whether the hardness is increased, equalized or even reduced is strongly influenced by ΔD = 2D – D +  ? D ?. Quantitative expressions for Δη are obtained, and the principles are tested on 90 molecules and the association reactions forming them. The Wigner-Witmer symmetry constraints on bonding require the valence state (VS) hardness, η VS, instead of the conventional ground state (GS) hardness, η GS. Many intriguingly “unpredictable” failures and systematic shortcomings of said “principles” are understood and overcome for the first time, including failures involving exotic and/or challenging molecules, such as Be2, B2, O3, and transition metal compounds. New linear relationships are discovered between the MHP hardness increase Δη VS and the intrinsic bond dissociation energy D i . For bond formations, MHP and HEP are not compatible, and HEP does not qualify as an ordering rule.  相似文献

Peach belongs to the genus Prunus, which includes Prunus persica and its relative species, P. mira, P. davidiana, P. kansuensis, and P. ferganensis. Of these, P. ferganensis have been classified as a species, subspecies, or geographical population of P. persica. To explore the genetic difference between P. ferganensis and P. persica, high-throughput sequencing was used in different peach accessions belonging to different species. First, low-depth sequencing data of peach accessions belonging to four categories revealed that similarity between P. ferganensis and P. persica was similar to that between P. persica accessions from different geographical populations. Then, to further detect the genomic variation in P. ferganensis, the P. ferganensis accession “Xinjiang Pan Tao 1” and the P. persica accession “Xia Miao 1” were sequenced with high depth, and sequence reads were assembled. The results showed that the collinearity of “Xinjiang Pan Tao 1” with the reference genome “Lovell” was higher than that of “Xia Miao 1” and “Lovell” peach. Additionally, the number of genetic variants, including single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), structural variations (SVs), and the specific genes annotated from unmapped sequence in “Xia Miao 1” was higher than that in “Xinjiang Pan Tao 1” peach. The data showed that there was a close distance between “Xinjiang Pan Tao 1” (P. ferganensis) and reference genome which belong to P. persica, comparing “Xia Miao 1” (P. persica) and reference ones. The results accompany with phylogenetic tree and structure analysis confirmed that P. ferganensis should be considered as a geographic population of P. persica rather than a subspecies or a distinct species. Furthermore, gene ontology analysis was performed using the gene comprising large-effect variation to understand the phenotypic difference between two accessions. The result revealed that the pathways of gene function affected by SVs but SNPs and insertion-deletions markedly differed between the two peach accessions.  相似文献

The karyotype of Amoeba borokensis was studied for the first time. At the metaphase of mitosis, this species has a haploid set of chromosomes (n = 27). This is exactly half of the diploid karyotype in Amoeba proteus (strain B). At first glance, it confirms the idea that has recently appeared that one species arises from another via multiple changes in chromosome number. However, comparative cytogenetic analysis revealed that four orthologous chromosomes from haploid sets of these two species were not distinguished by the pattern of DAPI-stained bands. It shows that the genetic distance between A. proteus and A. borokensis is higher than was believed earlier and these two species have diverged from each other. Analysis of data on the life cycles of A. proteus and A. borokensis shows that a kind of so-called “cyclic polyploidy” takes place in “proteus-like” amoebae. “Cyclic polyploidy” has recently been considered as an alternative to the sexual process for genetic recombination in agamic protists from different macrotaxons.  相似文献

Children born to obese mothers are at increased risk for obesity, but the mechanisms behind this association are not fully understood. Our study aimed to investigate differences in the functions encoded by the microbiome of infants at 18 months of age when the transition from early infant-feeding to solid family foods is established. To investigate the impact of maternal prepregnancy body mass index on infants’ gut microbiome, faecal samples from infants born to normoweight (n = 21) and obese mothers (n = 18) were analysed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and a functional-inference-based microbiome analysis. Our results indicated that Firmicutes was significantly enriched in infants born to normoweight mothers whereas Bacteroidetes was significantly enriched in infants born to obese women. In both microbiomes, the greatest number of genes (>50%) that were assigned a function encoded for proteins involved in “metabolism” among tier 1 KEGG Orthology (KO) categories. At lower KO functional categories, the microbiome of infants born to normoweight mothers was characterized by a significant enrichment in the abundances of “pentose phosphate pathway” (p = 0.037), “lysine biosynthesis” (p = 0.043), “glycerolipid metabolism” (p = 0.042), and “C5-branched dibasic acid metabolism” (p = 0.045). Notably, the microbiome of infants born to obese mothers was significantly enriched in “streptomycin biosynthesis” (p = 0.047), “sulphur metabolism” (p = 0.041), “taurine and hypotaurine metabolism” (p = 0.036), and “lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis” (p = 0.043). In summary, our study showed that maternal prepregnancy obesity may imprint a selective gut microbial composition during late infancy with distinct functional performances.  相似文献

The “North Indian sugarcanes”, cultivated by Indian peasants during many centuries, have been studied morphologically very exactly byC. A. Barber from 1910 to 1920. They were named “Saccharum Barberi” byJeswiet. Barber distinguished four groups. In 1931 the present author found the following chromosome numbers in these groups: 2n=116 and 2n=82 in the Sunnabile group; 2n=82 in the Mungo group; 2n=124 and 2n=107 in the Nargori group and about 91 in the Saretha group. The first three groups are sterile, the last is fertile. It is shown that the North Indian sugarcanes are hybrids between ancient indigenous sugar canes with a basic number of 17 chromosomes, and forms ofS. spontaneum withn=40,n=48 andn=56 respectively. Differences in the numbers of chromosomes contributed by the mother type may in part have their origin in endo-duplication, as commonly observed inSaccharum hybrids. Details are presented in Table 2. The differences found between different forms of IndianS. spontaneum in respect to chromosome number, sugar content and mosaic resistance may be attributed to intercrossing with canes of the fertile Saretha group.  相似文献

Voles of an unclear taxonomic status have been found in the Bureya River depression (Khabarovsk krai) for the first time. An analysis of the nucleotide sequence of the control region in two individuals revealed their greatest similarity with species of the “maximowiczii” group. The minimum p-distance (0.0217 ± 0.0044) was observed between individuals from the Bureya River depression and Alexandromys evoronensis studied earlier. The karyotype of one individual studied had a chromosomal aberration distinguished at the heterozygous state (2n = 37; NF = 55). A similar karyotype was described in the polymorphic A. maximowiczii population from the Khentii Mountains in Mongolia.  相似文献

Upper Triassic Norian reef boulders, exposed in a locality near the fountain “Tavuk Cesme” (“Chicken Fountain”) in Taurus Mountains, southern Turkey yielded a large number of hypercalcified sponges, including “sphinctozoans”, “inozoans”, “spongiomorphids”, and “chaetetids”. The sphinctozoans from this locality are described in this paper. Geologically, this locality belongs to the Anamas-Akseki autochthonous. The reef boulders of this locality are exposed near the “Tavuk Cesme” fountain, located at the road, leading from the town of Aksu to Yenisarbademli. The following taxa are described: Amblysiphonella taurica nov. sp., Anthalythalamia riedeli Senowbari-Daryan, Calabrisiphonella sphaerica nov. sp., Calabrisiphonella cuifi nov. sp., Cinnabaria minima Senowbari-Daryan, Colospongia recta nov. sp., Colospongia sp. 1, Colospongia sp. 2, Colospongia sp. 3, Cryptocoelia compacta nov. sp., Cryptocoelia? sp., Deningeria crassireticulata Senowbari-Daryan, Zühlke, Bechstädt and Flügel, Discosiphonella minima Senowbari-Daryan and Link, Gigantothalamia ovoidalis Senowbari-Daryan, Hajarispongia dipoyrazensis nov. sp., Hajarispongia cortexifera nov. sp., Kashanella irregularis Senowbari-Daryan, Kashanella cylindrica nov. sp., Parauvanella ferdowsensis Senowbari-Daryan, Parastylothalamia cylindrica nov. gen., nov. sp., Asiphothalamia polyosculata nov. gen, nov. sp., Sollasia norica nov. sp., and Thaumastocoelia sphaeroida Senowbari-Daryan. The most abundant sponge is Amblysiphonella taurica nov. sp. followed by Hajarispongia dipoyrazensis nov. sp., Colospongia and Discosiphonella minima Senowbari-Daryan and Link are also relatively abundant. The stylothalamid sponge Parastylothalamia nov. gen. is an abundant sponge genus in other Norian reefs of the Taurus Mountains, but is rare at the “Tavuk Cesme” locality.  相似文献

To characterize the molecular genetic diversity of the genus Darevskia, several populations were examined by the inter-SINE-PCR method, reporting the number and sizes of the spacers between individual copies of SINE-like interspersed repeats. Examination of 17 D. raddei geographical populations and several reference species revealed unequal genetic differences, measured as Nei and Li’s genetic distances (DNL), for different groups of samples. The highest homogeneity was observed for the apparently panmictic D. raddei nairensis population from the basin of the Hrazdan River: genetic differences within each of the five samples and between them were similarly low (less than 0.1). The difference between ten samples of D. raddei raddei from Armenia and Karabakh (0.2–0.3) was somewhat higher than the interindividual difference within each sample (0.1–0.2), indicating that the samples belonged to different populations. The assumption was supported by the phylogenetic tree topology and multidimensional scaling. The differences between samples from the morphological subspecies D. raddei raddei and D. raddei nairensis ranged 0.3–0.4. The difference of two D. raddei raddei samples of Talysh (Azerbaijan) from other samples of the same subspecies corresponded to the subspecific level. The genetic distances between the good species D. raddei and D. rudis was 0.6–0.7. In terms of DNL, a questionable population from northwestern Turkey (“D. tristis”) was closer to D. rudis (DNL = 0.45), probably representing its subspecies. The phylogeography of D. raddei is discussed.  相似文献

Data on differentiation of the polyploid complex of Suaeda corniculata (C.A. Mey.) Bunge in East Siberia based on variability of morphological characteristics, karyological analysis, and genetic polymorphism in inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers were given for the first time. It was established that the samples studied belonged to three cytotypes: diploids (2n = 2x = 18), tetraploids (2n = 4x = 36) and hexaploids (2n = 6x = 54). The analysis of variability of morphological characteristics by the method of principal coordinates showed division of the samples into three separate groups. On the basis of morphological and molecular-genetic methods, a genetically differentiated diploid population was revealed in Yakutia.  相似文献

Genetic diversity and geographic distribution of taxon-specific RAPD markers was examined in ten local populations of the house mouse Mus musculus (n = 42). The house mice were generally characterized by moderate genetic variation: polymorphism P 99 = 60%, P 95 = 32.57%; heterozygosity H = 0.12; the observed allele number n a = 1.6; the effective allele number n e = 1.18; the within-population differentiation ?s = 0.388; and Shannon index I = 0.19. The degree of genetic isolation of individual local populations was greatly variable. The genetic subdivision index G st varied from 0.162 to 0.770 at the gene flow of Nm = 2.58?0.149, while the among-population distances D N varied from 0.026 to 0.178. The largest part of the genetic diversity was found among the populations (H T = 0.125), while the within-population diversity was twice lower (H S = 0.06). The samples examined were well discriminated relative to the sets of RAPD markers. The character distribution pattern provided conditional subdivision of the mice into the “western” and the “eastern” groups with the putative boarder along the Baikal Lake. The first group was characterized by the prevalence of the markers typical of M. m. musculus and M. m. domesticus. The second group was characterized by the prevalence of the markers typical of M. m. musculus, M. m. gansuensis, M. m. castaneus, M. m. domesticus, and M. m. wagneri. The genotype of the nominative subspecies M. m. musculus was background for all populations. In the populations examined some of earlier described subspecies-specific molecular markers were found at different frequencies, pointing to the involvement of several subspecies of M. musculus in the process of hybridization.  相似文献

The Early/Middle Miocene (European Land Mammal Zone MN5) localities of Sandelzhausen and Rothenstein 13 in southern Germany have yielded remains of about 13 ophidian taxa: Eoanilius sp. (Aniliidae), Bavarioboa ultima (Boidae), “Coluber” sp., ?Telescopus sp., Natrix sp., cf. Natrix sp., cf. “Neonatrix” sp., unidentified “colubrines” and “natricines” (Colubridae), Naja sp., an unidentified elapid (Elapidae), Vipera sp. (“Oriental viper”), Vipera sp. (“aspis complex”) (Viperidae). Both faunas document a transitional phase from those reported from several late Early and Middle Miocene sites of Central and Western Europe. The climates of Sandelzhausen and Rothenstein 13, as indicated by ophidian fossils, were warm, although not tropical or subtropical.  相似文献

The lipid class and the fatty acid compositions of microalgae highly influence bivalve larval and post-larval development. Light is an essential environmental factor for microalgal culture, and quantity and quality of light may induce changes in the biochemical composition of the algae. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of light spectrum (blue vs. white light) on lipid class and fatty acid compositions of Tisochrysis lutea cultured in a chemostat. Two different dilution rates (D) were assayed for each light spectrum: 0.2 and 0.7 day?1. Triacylglycerol (TAG), sterol, and hydrocarbon (HC) content increased sharply at low D. The proportion of alkenones was significantly reduced under blue light. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), and particularly n-3 PUFA, content in phospholipids (PL) increased under blue light compared to white light at low D. Thus, blue light raised 22:6(n-3) levels in total lipids of T. lutea at low D. The cultivation of T. lutea in a chemostat at low D under blue light may improve nutritional value as feed for bivalve larvae by modifying the PUFA profile, especially increasing 22:6(n-3).  相似文献

The Agave angustifolia complex, distributed from Mexico to Costa Rica, comprises four species and five varieties, including three species used for mescal production. The complex is represented in the Mexican state of Oaxaca by two wild taxa, A. angustifolia var. angustifolia and A. angustifolia var. rubescens, the cultivated form A. angustifolia “Espadín” and the partially cultivated species A. rodacantha. The aims of this study were to investigate the morphological and genetic variation of the A. angustifolia complex in the state of Oaxaca and to identify traits useful for taxonomic delimitation. Four wild and three cultivated populations of A. angustifolia from Oaxaca, one population of A. tequilana from Guanajuato and one population of A. angustifolia from Sonora were sampled for morphological, genetic and cytometric analyses. We showed that cultivated populations of A. angustifolia “Espadin,” A. rhodacantha and A. tequilana could be clearly differentiated from wild populations. Furthermore, the domesticated populations of A. angustifolia, known locally as “Espadin,” had a higher ploidy level and lower genetic variation than their related wild populations. The population of A. angustifolia from Sonora could be recognized as a different entity. Populations of A. rhodacantha need to be studied throughout their entire distribution area to further evaluate their taxonomic delimitation.  相似文献

The postural stability on a seesaw generating anterior–posterior instability with the eyes open (EO) and then the eyes closed (EC) in young healthy subjects (n = 28) before and 6 min after the maximum bicycle exercise (Wingate test) performed using lower limbs (“leg exercise”) or upper limbs (“hand exercise”) was investigated. It was found that “hand exercise” caused the same increase in average velocity (V, mm/s) and in the average range of sway of the centre of pressure (Qy, mm) as “leg exercise.” However, the duration of V recovery (EC: 2 min 30 s and 50 s; EO: 60 s and 40 s after “leg exercise” and “hand exercise,” respectively) and Qy (EC: 1 min 10 s and 30 s after “leg exercise” and “hand exercise,” respectively; EO: no changes from baseline) was shorter after “hand exercise.” In the presence of visual information, the increment in V decreased more than 2 times after “leg exercise” (+100.5% and + 40.5%, p < 0.01 for EC and EO, respectively) and after “hand exercise” (+73.0% and +30.3%, p < 0.01 for EC and EO, respectively). Moreover, Qy after both exercises remained at the initial level under EO conditions but significantly increased under EC conditions (+42.8%, p < 0.01 after “leg exercise” and +40.3%, p < 0.01 after “hand exercise”). Thus, the maximum exercise for the muscles of the upper limbs causes the same reduction in postural stability as analogous exercise for the muscles of the lower limbs, but the recovery period after “hand” exercise was shorter. The presence of visual information allows the baseline maintenance of postural stability and significantly reduces the strain of postural regulation while standing on a movable support after the maximum “leg exercise” and “hand exercise.”  相似文献

Three independent patterns of vein formation in Cyperus involucratus Rottb. were identified based on rare spontaneous interruptions of scape vein development. A number of developmental anomalies of vascular bundles in Cyperus involucratus Rottb. were identified and they include “turnabout”, “absent”, “twins”, “doublet”, amphivasal and various stages of “arrested”. These were used to develop a computer program to explain the three vasculature patterns of the scape of (a) ordered deployment of vascular bundles, (b) arrangement of tissues within vascular bundles and (c) orientation of vascular bundles with respect to stem edge. The computer model is a cell-by-cell determination of cell types and facet states.

The homologous genes to OsSUT1-5 in wheat were identified and detailed analysed. TaSUT1 was the predominant sucrose transporter group and it illustrated the genotypic variations towards drought during grain filling.

Abstract

Sucrose transporters (SUT) play crucial roles in wheat stem water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) remobilization to grain. To determine the major functional SUT gene groups in shoot parts of wheat during grain development, drought tolerant varieties, Westonia and Kauz, were investigated in field drought experiments. Fourteen homologous genes to OsSUT1-5 were identified on five homeologous groups, namely TaSUT1_4A, TaSUT1_4B, TaSUT1_4D; TaSUT2_5A, TaSUT2_5B, TaSUT2_5D; TaSUT3_1A, TaSUT3_1D; TaSUT4_6A, TaSUT4_6B, TaSUT4_6D; TaSUT5_2A, TaSUT5_2B, and TaSUT5_2D, and their gene structures were analysed. Wheat plants above the ground were harvested from pre-anthesis to grain maturity and the stem, leaf sheath, rachis, lemma and developing grain were used for analysing TaSUT gene expression. Grain weight, thousand grain weight, kernel number per spike, biomass and stem WSC were characterized. The study showed that among the five TaSUT groups, TaSUT1 was the predominant sucrose transporting group in all organs sampled, and the expression was particularly high in the developing grain. In contrast to TaSUT1, the gene expression levels of TaSUT2, TaSUT3 and TaSUT4 were lower, except for TaSUT3 which showed preferential expression in the lemma before anthesis. The TaSUT5 gene group was very weakly expressed in all tissues. The upregulated gene expression of TaSUT1 Westonia type in stem and grain reveal a crucial role in stem WSC remobilization to grain under drought. The high TaSUT1 gene expression and the significant correlations with thousand grain weight (TGW) and kernel number per spike demonstrated the contribution in Kauz’s high grain yield in an irrigated environment and high TGW in Westonia under drought stress. Further molecular level identification is required for gene marker development.

A major quantitative trait locus (QTL) associated with resistance to Fusarium head blight (FHB) was identified on chromosome 3BS between simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers Xgwm389 and Xgwm493 in wheat “Ning 7840”, a derivative from “Sumai 3”. However, the marker density of SSR in the QTL region was much lower than that required for marker-assisted selection (MAS) and map-based cloning. The objective of this study was to exploit new markers to increase marker density in this QTL region by using single-strand conformational polymorphism (SSCP) markers developed from wheat-expressed sequence tags (ESTs) on 3BS bin 8-0.78-1.0. Sixty-nine out of 85 SSCP primer pairs amplified PCR (polymerase chain reaction) products from the genomic DNA of “Chinese Spring”. Thirty-four primer pairs amplified PCR products that could form clear ssDNA (single strand DNA) bands through denaturation treatment. Ten SSCP markers had polymorphisms between Ning 7840 and “Clark”. Five of the ten polymorphic SSCP markers were located on chromosome 3B by nullitetrasomic analysis. Three SSCP markers (Xsscp6, Xsscp20, and Xsscp21) were mapped into the region between Xgwm493 and Xgwm533 and possessed a higher coefficient of determination (R2) than Xgwm493 and Xgwm533. The SSCP markers, Xsscp6, Xsscp20, and Xsscp21, can be used for map-based cloning of the QTL and for marker-assisted selection in FHB resistance breeding.  相似文献
