Dispersion of chironomid larvae between and within stands of the aquatic macrophyte Ranunculus penicillatus var. calcareus was studied by sampling individual leaves of Ranunculus. Two of the six common species exhibited no variation in density between sites, while others had significant variations. A new probability density function was applied to the data and it was revealed that random colonization was not uncommon among these epiphytic larvae. It was suggested that stochastic factors are of some importance in the system under study.  相似文献

The colonization patterns of larval chironomid midges were studied on clean sieved sediments (range 0.25-4.0 mm; pure and mixed) placed in a third order stream in NW Pennsylvania, USA. Chironomid abundance and species richness were significantly different among four sites for homogeneous and mixed sediments. Species richness increased with sediment particle size. Fourteen of the 18 most common species had significant substrate preferences. The interpretation of two cluster analyses of sediment samples indicated two assemblages of chironomid species, each of which appeared to correlate with particular sediments, indicating some assemblage level sediment preference. Sediment size, but not heterogeneity, appears to be a strong factor in the species richness pattern of the community, and in the microhabitat choices of individual chironomid species, in this sandy environment.  相似文献

The distribution and abundance of larval chironomids in Lake Hayes were studied from December 1973 to March 1975. The mean annual production of the two dominant species, Chironomus zealandicus and Chironomus sp. a, was 29.2 g m−2 dry weight which is approximately 4.3 % of the average annual phytoplankton production in the lake. A high annual P/B ratio of 18.5 is consistent with the multivoltine life cycle of C. zealandicus. Larval chironomid production in the second summer when Anabaena blooms were absent was only one quarter of that in the first summer and is consistent with the hypothesis that the production of benthic chironomids in Lake Hayes is closely linked to that of the phytoplankton through the sedimentation of autochthonous organic matter.  相似文献

目的 初步研究家蝇幼虫血淋巴蛋白组学特征及其中的热稳定蛋白.方法 使用破壁法提取三龄幼虫血淋巴原液,设置全血淋巴组、沸水浴处理组,采用不同pH范围双向电泳胶条,分析血淋巴中蛋白的pH、分子量分布特点,采用二级质谱对蛋白点进行分子鉴定.结果 家蝇幼虫血淋巴中蛋白的分子量主要分布在10 kDa~66kDa之间,采用pH3~10的IPG胶,检测到286个蛋白点,采用pH4~7的IPG胶,测到601个蛋白点;血淋巴经沸水浴处理后,检测到41个蛋白点,分子量低于30 kDa,比未处理组减少了93.1%,对其中11个蛋白点进行质谱分析,鉴定出4个功能蛋白,包括存储蛋白、气味结合蛋白、铁蛋白重链样蛋白和铁蛋白2轻链蛋白同系物.结论 双向电泳能很好地分析家蝇幼虫血淋巴中的蛋白,血淋巴中的蛋白等电点主要分布在pH4~7之间;血淋巴经沸水浴处理后可去掉大量变性蛋白,其上清中可能包含耐热性较好的功能蛋白.  相似文献

Winter processes such as overwinter survival and growth of individuals can have wide-ranging consequences for population dynamics and communities within and across seasons. In freshwater organisms winter processes have been mainly studied in fish despite that invertebrates also have substantial impacts on lake and pond food webs. One of the major invertebrate consumers in lake and ponds is the planktonic larvae of the dipteran insect Chaoborus spec. However, while much is known about Chaoborus feeding ecology, behaviour and structuring role in food webs, its winter ecology and how it affects its populations are poorly understood. Here size- and density-dependent winter mortality and body growth of late Chaoborus flavicans larvae were quantified over naturally occurring size and density ranges in autumn and under natural winter conditions using two field enclosure experiments. Winter mortality increased with autumn density but decreased with autumn body size while winter growth rates decreased with autumn density and body sizes. There was also a density- and size-independent background mortality component. The proportion of pupae found in spring decreased strongly and exponentially with autumn density. These results may explain the commonly observed univoltine life cycle and multi-annual density fluctuations in northern Chaoborus populations. They further demonstrate the relevance of winter processes and conditions for freshwater invertebrates and ecosystems.  相似文献

From July 1995 to January 1996, we examined the seasonal variations of the diel dynamics of habitat use by young-of-the-year cyprinid fishes (chub Leuciscus cephalus and dace L. leuciscus) in a lotic stream (River Ourthe, Southern Belgium). Inshore bays and neighbouring habitats (riparian shelters, entrance of the bay and shallow riffles) were sampled every three hours from 6:00 to 22:00 h, using DC electrofishing with prepositioned frames. In early summer, chub larvae moved exclusively in between the middle of the bay and riparian shelters inside the bay. Juvenile dace and, later in the season, juvenile chub showed diel dynamics of which the amplitude was dependent on temperature and illumination: they moved into the bay in the morning, gathered in greater numbers at mid-day (up to 586 chub and 387 dace m-2), then progressively left the bay and entered neighbouring riffles in the late afternoon or evening. Small fish immigrated earlier into the bay and emigrated later than fish of larger size. By late September, most dace had left the bays, but returned there when water temperatures were <7°C. During autumn and winter, juvenile dace and chub of all sizes occupied exclusively inshore shelters with submerged riparian macrophytes or fallen tree leaves (corresponding densities of 0.7, 9.5 and 15.8 dace m-2, and of 6.8, 20.2 and 94.2 chub m-2). These results support the idea that young-of-the-year dace and chub shift from a restricted use of inshore shallow bays to a diel dynamics with alternate inshore-offshore movements at the time when they become juveniles, although the precise timings of these movements are still influenced by fish size and water temperature afterwards. The significance of these dynamics is discussed within a context of trade-off between the use of food resources and avoidance of predators.  相似文献

在人工养殖条件下,对拟目乌贼幼体的日摄食量和日增重率进行了分析。结果显示,在水温、盐度、pH等条件相对稳定的环境下,10~15d的拟目乌贼幼体平均日摄食虾苗(体长0.5mm)的条数分别是8、11、12、13、78、83条,在这种摄食量下,拟目乌贼幼体的日增重率分别为6.8%、5.68%、6.44%、8.81%、12.5%。其胴长、体重的生长符合S型曲线生长规律。  相似文献

The maximum vegetative growth potential of two peach [Prunuspersica (L.) Batsch] cultivars that differ in the timing ofresource demand for reproductive growth was determined in termsof stem extension, stem and leaf dry weight accumulation, andtrunk radial increment on defruited trees. The maximum vegetativegrowth potentials were similar on the two cultivars indicatingthat the greater partitioning of dry weight to vegetative growthfrequently observed on early maturing cultivars compared tolate maturing cultivars is the result of a shorter period ofcompetition between reproductive and vegetative growth, ratherthan a genetic difference in vegetative growth potential. Onboth cultivars, stem extension and leaf dry weight accumulationceased in mid-summer, however stem dry weight accumulation andtrunk radial increment increase continued through the autumn. The presence of fruit did not have a detectable effect on thefinal stem length, stem dry weight or leaf dry weight on theearly maturing cultivar, but it reduced final stem length anddry weight by 43 and 56%, respectively on the late maturingcultivar. The presence of fruit did decrease stem length, stemdry weight and leaf dry weight on the early maturing cultivarfor 1 month prior to and 1 month after fruit harvest. Fruitdecreased final trunk radial increment by 42 and 77% on theearly and late maturing cultivars, respectively. These reductionsin vegetative growth indicate that resource partitioning tovegetative growth was reduced by competition with fruit growth. Comparison of stem relative extension rates and stem and leafrelative growth rates on fruited and defruited trees indicatedthat vegetative growth was resource-limited shortly after vegetativebud break on fruited trees of both cultivars. The aim of this study was to culture sponge juveniles from larvae. Starting from larvae we expected to enhance the survival and growth, and to decrease the variation in these parameters during the sponge cultures. First, settlement success, morphological changes during metamorphosis, and survival of Dysidea avara, Ircinia oros, Hippospongia communis, under the same culture conditions, were compared. In a second step, we tested the effects of flow and food on survival and growth of juveniles from Dysidea avara and Crambe crambe. Finally, in a third experiment, we monitored survival and growth of juveniles of D. avara and C. crambe transplanted to the sea to compare laboratory and field results. The results altogether indicated that sponge culture from larvae is a promising method for sponge supply and that laboratory culture under controlled conditions is preferred over sea cultures in order to prevent biomass losses during these early life stages.  相似文献

Certain anthropogenic chemicals, most notably xeno-oestrogens,are known to have the potential to disrupt vertebrate endocrinesystems. For example, induction of the female-specific protein,vitellogenin, in male fish is a well-known effect of exposureto xeno-oestrogens and serves as a biomarker of such exposure.There have been few comparable studies of putative biomarkersof endocrine disruption in invertebrates. An exception is theupregulation of vitellin-like larval storage protein (LSP) expressionin the barnacle cypris larva following exposure to oestrogenicchemicals. The current study aimed to establish whether larvaeof the glass prawn, Palaemon elegans, are likewise susceptibleto xeno-oestrogen exposure. Using a polyclonal antiserum toP. elegans apolipovitellin, an 86 kDa polypeptide was detectedby western blotting in the larval and early postlarval stagesof this species. An indirect ELISA applied to the soluble proteinfraction of larval homogenates determined that the titre ofthis putative LSP ranged, depending on larval stage, from 0.48–0.67ng µg–1. Exposure of P. elegans larvae to the xeno-oestrogen4-n-nonylphenol (4-NP), at 0.2–20 µg L–1,resulted in a significant, concentration-independent increasein putative LSP levels of 5–18%. Conversely, exposureto the natural oestrogen, 17ß-oestradiol (E2), at0.2 and 20 µg L–1, led to a significant concentration-independentdecline (up to 11%) in LSP levels. Whether the effect of 4-NPresults from endocrine disruption is not known, however, anoestrogen receptor-mediated effect is unlikely. Other than aslight increase in larval mortality when exposed to 4-NP at2 µg L–1, neither 4-NP nor E2 significantly affecteddevelopment, growth or survival of P. elegans larvae.  相似文献

从分别牛长于含Mn和Cr培养基中的棕色固氮菌(Azotobacter vinelandii Lipmann)突变种UW3分离纯化出MnFe和CrFe蛋白。为适应包括固氮酶在内的氧敏感蛋白的空间晶体生长的要求,应用简易而适用的厌氧加样装置代替固氮酶实验室所用的笨重厌氧箱(dry box),在地面进行厌氧加样。在充满氮气的简便有机玻璃箱内厌氧加样的所有样品中,分别用液/液扩散法和汽相扩散的坐滴法都可在一周内使MnFe和CrFe蛋白在宇宙飞船上从溶液中结晶出来。在所用的数种蛋白沉淀剂中,飞船上形成的所有晶体都为单品,而地面上在多数沉淀剂中都生成大量挛晶。在相同沉淀剂中用液/液扩散法,飞船上生成CrFe蛋白的最大晶体比地面生成的最大晶体大1倍。而在相同沉淀剂中用汽相扩散的坐滴法,飞船上生成的MnFe蛋白最大晶体却没有地面生成的最大晶体大。这种差异也许是由不同结晶方法而不是不同蛋白所引起的。  相似文献

Kin selection theory states that when resources are limited and all else is equal, individuals will direct competition away from kin. However, when competition between relatives is completely local, as is the case in granivorous insects whose larval stages spend their lives within a single seed, this can reduce or even negate the kin-selected benefits. Instead, an increase in competition may have the same detrimental effects on individuals that forage with kin as those that forage with non-kin. In a factorial experiment we assessed the effects of relatedness and competition over food on the survival and on fitness-related traits of the bruchid beetle Callosobruchus maculatus. Relatedness of competitors did not affect the survival of larvae. Larval survival substantially decreased with increasing larval density, and we found evidence that beetles maturing at a larger size were more adversely affected by competition, resulting in lower survival rates. Furthermore, females showed a reduction in their growth rate with increasing larval density, emerging smaller after the same development time. Males increased their growth rate, emerging earlier but at a similar size when food was more limited. Our results add to the growing number of studies that fail to show a relationship between relatedness and a reduction in competition between relatives in closed systems, and emphasize the importance of the scale at which competition between relatives occurs.  相似文献

A cadmium and zinc-binding protein similar to metallothionein has been isolated from Tetrahymena pyriformis exposed to cadmium chloride. This protein contained 32.4% half-cystine, 23.7% acidic amino acids and 10.1% lysine. The amino acid composition was similar to that of copper-thionein of yeast. The metal-binding protein of Tetrahymena pyriformis contained 3.7 g atom cadmium, 0.7 g atom zinc, and O.l g atom copper per mol, and shpwed the spectral characteristics of cadmium-thionein, i.e., a broad shoulder at 250 nm and low residual absorption at 280 nm. The molecular weight of this protein was determined to be 11,000 by gel filtration in 6 M guanidine hydrochloride, although it moved like a protein with a molecular weight of 30,000 on ordinary gel filtration.  相似文献

将编码人BMP2cDNA基因插入昆虫杆状病毒转移载体pBacPAK1,与修饰的家蚕核形多角体病毒Bm-BacPAKDNA共转染家蚕细胞,通过同源重组得到含有在多角体蛋白基因启动子控制下的BMP2cDNA基因的重组病毒Bm-BacPAK-BMP2。用重组病毒感染家蚕幼虫,第五天BMP2表达率最高,每毫升蚕血淋巴中约10μg表达产物;表达产物在在体内被加工成C-端16kD片段,以二硫键连结成分子量为30kD的同源二聚体;经纯化获得90%以上纯度的成熟BMP2,与骨基质胶原结合后植入大鼠皮下,7天后在局部诱导生成软骨组织。  相似文献
