A cadinane derivative from Artemisia crithmifolia

The aerial parts of Artemisia crithmifolia yielded a new cadinane derivative, six known flavonoids, three known coumarins, four known acetophenone derivatives and the acetylene dehydrofalcarindiol.     

New taxa in Psoroptinae. Hypothesis on the origin of the group (Acarina, Sarcoptiformes, Psoroptidae)]

The author describes three new species and one new genus in the family Psoroptidae, subfamily Psoroptinae. A key is given to all the known genera of this subfamily. The fact that amongst the 16 species known from Africa South of the Sahara, 9 are endemic incites the author to believe that this group has a Centro-african origin.     

Antibacterial and cytotoxic xanthones from the roots of Cratoxylum formosum

Chemical investigation of the roots of Cratoxylum formosum has resulted in the isolation and characterization of xanthones: three new, named formoxanthone A-C and three known together with three known anthraquinones. Their structures were established on the basis of analysis of spectroscopic evidence. In addition, antibacterial and cytotoxic activities of the isolates were also evaluated.     

Iridoid and megastigmane glycosides from Phlomis aurea

From the leaves of Phlomis aurea, two new iridoids of unique structures named 3-epiphlomurin (1) and phlomurin (2), a new megastigmane glucoside phlomuroside (3) and a new benzyl alcohol glycoside having the structure benzyl alcohol-O-beta-xylopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-glucopyranoside (4) have been isolated together with four known iridoids auroside, lamiide, 8-epiloganin and ipolamiide, two known phenolic glycosides acteoside (verbascoside) and syringin, one known phenylethanoid glycoside 2-phenylethyl-O-beta-xylopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-glucopyranoside, one known lignan liriodendrin and three known flavonoids chrysoeriol-7-O-beta-glucopyranoside, acacetin-7-O-beta-glucopyranoside and luteolin-7-O-beta-glucopyranoside. The structures of the isolated compounds were verified by means of mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral analyses.     

Furanoheliangolides from two Eremanthus species and from Chresta sphaerocephala

The investigation of Eremanthus crotonoides afforded in addition to known compounds three new furanoheliangolides, while from E. glomerulatus six new furanoheliangolides and eremantholides were isolated. From the aerial parts of Chresta sphaerocephala a new guaianolide was obtained, while the roots contained known furanoheliangolides. The chemotaxonomy of the subtribe Lychnophorinae is discussed briefly.     

中国南部的银柴属植物摘记

<正> 大戟科的银柴属植物分布于亚洲南部和东南部热带地区。据文献记载(1879—1988)本属我国的种类,共有8种。作者编写《广东植物志》大戟科的银柴属植物时,清理华南植物研究所(SCBI)收藏的标本,发现我国南部生长有4种和1变种该属植物,其中滇银柴为新组合,披针叶银柴为我国新纪录,现报道如下。     

Sesqui- and diterpenoids from two Japanese and three European liverworts

A new peroxy muurolane-type sesquiterpenoid was isolated from the ether extract of the Belgium liverwort Scapania undulata, together with three known ent-muurolanes. A new lepidozane-type sesquiterpenoid was isolated from the Japanese Porella subobtusa together with a known santalane- and two africane-type sesquiterpenoids. All structures were determined by means of NMR spectroscopic techniques. The chemosystematics of each species are discussed.     

Terpenoids of Piptothrix sinaloae

In addition to three known thymol esters and five known sesquiterpene lactones, two new germacrolides and a new diterpene diester were isolated from the dichloromethane extract of the aerial parts of Piptothrix sinaloae. Structures for the new compounds were elucidated by chemical transformations and spectral methods. The current taxonomic status of P. sinaloae is discussed on the basis of both morphological and secondary metabolite data.     

Alkaloids from Haplophyllum buxbaumii

In addition to the known alkaloids kokusaginine, skimmianine, γ-fagarine and a lignan, justicin B, the aerial parts of Haplophyllum buxbaumii afforded three new alkaloids: 4,5,6-trimethoxyfuroquinoline, 4,5,7-trimethoxyfuroquinoline and N-hydroxymethylflindersine. The structures of the known and the new compounds were assigned by spectral methods.     

Neue diterpene und germacranolide aus Mikania-Arten

From three Mikania species, three new labdanic acid and two kaurenic acid derivatives have been isolated together with known compounds and four new germacranolides, differing only in the ester moiety.     

Pronophiline butterflies (Satyridae) of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia

Abstract. The twenty-four species of Pronophilini known from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a small, isolated and very high north Colombian mountain range, are listed. The ecology of the tribe in northern South America, where these butterflies are exclusively montane, is described. The evolutionary relationships of the thirteen endemic species are analysed. Three new genera, three new species, and four new subspecies are described. Four new synonymies are established, the status of three taxa revised, six new combinations made, lished, the status of three taxa and one original combination re-instated.     

Cytotoxic ent-kauranoids from Isodon parvifolius

Three new ent-kaurane diterpenoids, parvifoline Z (1), parvifoline AA (2), and parvifoline AB (3), together with 14 known compounds, were isolated from the leaves of Isodon parvifolius. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, and by comparison with known compounds. These three new diterpenoids included three types of ent-kauranoids, namely, C(20)-non-oxygenated-ent-kauranoid, 7,20-cyclo-ent-kauranoid and 6,7-seco-ent-kauranoid-7,20-olide. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited significant cytotoxicities against A549, HT-29, and K562 cell lines.     

Xanthanolides from Xanthium spinosum

The aerial parts of Xanthium spinosum afforded in addition to known xanthanolides three new ones. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and by partial synthesis. Furthermore one lactone was transformed to a known derivative.     

New germacranolides,guaianolides and rearranged Guaianolides from Lasiolaena santosii

The aerial parts of L. santosii afforded three new diterpenes, a phenylpropanol, three eudesmane derivatives, three germacranolides, seventeen guaianolides and four rearranged guaianolides of a, so far, unknown type. Furthermore, several known compounds were isolated. The structures of the new compounds, the separations of which caused difficulties, were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and by some chemical transformations. The chemotaxonomic situation is discussed briefly.     

Further sesquiterpene lactones from Helianthus maximiliani

By using HPLC, a new melampolide, a known heliangolide and three known germacrolides were isolated as minor constituents from a north central Texas population of Helianthus maximiliani. In an earlier report, we identified the germacrolide desacetyleupaserrin as the principal sesquiterpene lactone from this population.     

Labdane derivatives from hemizonia species

The investigation of three Hemizonia species afforded in addition to known compounds seven new labdane derivatives, all derived from labd-13-en-15-ol. The absolute configuration of these diterpenes was determined by degradation of the triol by periodate cleavage, which afforded a known norditerpene ketone. From H. fitchii two new chromene esters and the cis-isomer of a known coumarate were isolated. H. congesta afforded in addition to labdane derivatives a hydroxycubebol.     

A new type of germacranolide from Vernonia species

From several South African Vernonia species, a considerable number of sesquiterpene lactones has been isolated. Together with known compounds, seven members of a new type with an enol lactone ring have been found, their structures being elucidated by spectroscopic methods and some chemical transformations. Furthermore two new derivatives of costunolide are present in two species, and three new guaianolides have been found. From some species, however, no lactones could be isolated. Together with a new bisabolene derivative, a known eremophilone has been isolated, probably for the first time, from a member of the tribe Vernonieae.     

Melampolides and germacranolides from Stevia amambayensis

From the aerial parts of Stevia amambayensis in addition to known compounds three new sesquiterpene lactones, a grazielic acid derivative and two melampolides were isolated. The roots gave two new bisabolene derivatives.
