Lipid metabolism was examined in patients with hyper- or hypothyroidism. Compared with corresponding age and sex matched controls, serum total cholesterol (T-chol), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-chol), phospholipid (PL) and LDL levels were significantly low and free fatty acid (FFA) levels were high with apparently normal triglyceride (TG), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-chol) levels in 61 hyperthyroid patients, while T-chol, LDL-chol, TG, PL, VLDL and LDL levels were high with normal FFA and HDL-chol levels in 31 hypothyroid patients. Serum lipid levels were then repeatedly measured in 7 men and 7 women with hyperthyroid Graves' disease before treatment (stage I), just after the patients became euthyroid with anti-thyroid drug (stage II) and more than 2 months after the patients remained euthyroid (stage III). Serum T-chol, LDL-chol, PL and LDL levels were low at stage I, significantly elevated at stage II and then normalized at stage III. Transient but significant elevation of serum TG, VLDL and HDL-chol levels at stage II were also observed in men. Accelerated catabolism and anabolism of lipid has been reported in hyperthyroidism. Transient elevation of serum lipid levels suggests a more rapid improvement in catabolism than in anabolism of lipid in an early stage of the medical treatment for hyperthyroidism.  相似文献

Lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) activity has been suggested to play an important role in the regulation of lipid metabolism. The present study was undertaken to examine any relationship between LCAT activity and altered cholesterol levels in plasma of full-term and preterm newborn infants. Plasma total, free and esterified cholesterol, total phospholipid and LCAT activity (cholesterol esterified, nmol/ml per h) were determined in placental cord blood. There was a significant negative relationship between total cholesterol levels and gestational age. The increased cholesterol with prematurity was due to both free and esterified cholesterol. There was also a significant negative relationship between LCAT activity and free cholesterol levels but not between LCAT activity and total cholesterol and esterified cholesterol levels. There was no relationship between esterified-to-free cholesterol ratio and LCAT activity. Total phospholipid was not significantly related to either gestational age or LCAT activity. This study suggests that reduced LCAT activity may be one of the factors that result in the accumulation of cholesterol in premature infants.  相似文献

Analyses of total lipid in individual lenses 1.8-63 years of age indicate that both the cholesterol and the phospholipid concentrations have reached a high level of 10 and 14 micrograms/mg lens dry weight, respectively, after the first ten years of growth. Thereafter, the rate of phospholipid accumulation was greatly reduced to a value of 0.05 microgram/mg per year while that of cholesterol reduced to 0.19. Analyses of the distribution of lipid in successive lens fiber layers indicate that both the cholesterol and phospholipid levels increase in the entire lens between the age of 1.8 and 9 years. Older lenses showed a continuous increase in the accumulation of cholesterol in the deep cortical fibers, while little or no increase in phospholipid concentration was observed. These results indicate that the accumulation of lipids is greater than that of lens dry mass (protein) during the first decade of lens growth. Since more than 90% of lenticular lipids are associated with fiber cell membranes, these data suggest a gradual change in the differentiation of the newly formed secondary fibers from the epithelium during this period. Analyses of the phospholipid composition of the successive fiber fractions indicate that the major phospholipids of phosphatidyl ethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylserine (PS) and sphingomyelin maintained a uniform distribution in the 1.8- and 5-year-old lenses. While no change was observed with the cortical fibers, older lenses showed a gradual loss of PE and PS in the nuclear fiber up to 63 years of age. By the late teen years, nuclear PS can no longer be detected, while high levels of PE are maintained in lens nucleus. The disappearance of nuclear PE begins in the teen years and is completed by the age of 40. The decrease in PE and PS resulted in a continuous increase in the cholesterol/phospholipid ratio, a measure of membrane rigidity in the nuclear fiber in lenses 20 years of age and older. This decrease is also responsible for the exceedingly high rigidity of the nuclear fibers of lenses 60 years of age and older. Possible lamellar cholesterol organization in the lens fiber membrane is discussed.  相似文献

The acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) activity and lipid composition of hepatic microsomal membrane were investigated 6 weeks after both 50 and 75% distal-small-bowel resection (SBR). A significant decrease in hepatic cholesteryl ester levels was observed after SBR, with a significant increase in the cholesteryl ester content of the livers of 75% SBR compared with the 50% SBR. Hepatic total acylglycerols, free cholesterol and phospholipid levels were not modified after the surgical operation. Microsomal free cholesterol was increased after both 50 and 75% SBR. However, a decrease in both microsomal ACAT activity and cholesteryl ester levels were found in microsomes (microsomal fractions) of resected rats, both changes being higher after 75 than after 50% resection. The total phospholipid content of the microsomes did not change after the surgical operation. The microsomal phospholipid fatty acid composition indicated higher changes after 75 than after 50% SBR. These results demonstrated that, in resected animals: (1) the activity of the enzyme responsible for catalysing cholesterol esterification (ACAT) is decreased, and (2) hepatic microsomal free cholesterol does not appear to influence the activity of ACAT.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of modest weight reduction on serum concentrations of tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), TNF soluble receptors (sTNFRs) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study group consisted of 15 obese women with PCOS (mean age 28.5 +/- 7.7 years). Serum concentrations of TNF-alpha, sTNFRs and IL-6, insulin, FSH, LH, DHEAS, androstendione, total and free testosterone, cortisol, 17OH-progesterone, oestradiol and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), glucose, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides were measured before treatment and after 10% weight loss. All patients were advised to follow a 1000-1200 kcal diet with a limited intake of simple carbohydrate and animal fats and to exercise regularly (30 min, 3 times a week). Body composition was measured by bioimpedance. Serum concentrations of TNF-alpha, sTNFRs and IL-6 were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Plasma insulin, FSH, LH, DHEAS, androstendione, total and free testosterone, cortisol, 17OH-progesterone, oestradiol and SHBG were measured by a commercial RIA. Blood glucose, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides were measured by an enzymatic procedure. RESULTS: We observed no differences in serum concentrations of TNF-alpha, sTNFRs or IL-6 after treatment. CONCLUSIONS: It seems that more than a modest weight reduction is necessary to obtain a decrease in serum concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines and an improvement in ovarian function in obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome.  相似文献

Altered hepatic cholesterol metabolism has been implicated in the etiology of cholesterol gallstones. This hypothesis has been examined by determining acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) activity in liver biopsies from 31 cholesterol gallstone patients and 12 control subjects. Hepatic ACAT activity in gallstone patients was decreased to one-third that in controls (P less than 0.001). No differences in hepatic homogenate or microsomal free and total cholesterol concentrations were observed between the two groups. However, marked increases in free (107%) and total (98%) cholesterol concentrations were found in the cytosolic fraction of liver biopsies from gallstone patients. The total phospholipid concentration of the liver homogenate fraction was unchanged in both groups; however, the microsomal total phospholipid concentration was reduced by 17% (P less than 0.01) in gallstone samples compared with controls. This difference did not result in a significantly increased microsomal cholesterol/phospholipid ratio for the gallstone group (0.180 +/- 0.030) compared with the control group (0.169 +/- 0.042). These results show that hepatic ACAT activity is significantly decreased in cholesterol gallstone patients. These changes in ACAT activity in livers of patients with cholesterol gallstones are consistent with the known increase in the amount of free cholesterol secreted in the bile of these patients. Thus, the changes in ACAT activity may contribute to the pathogenesis of cholesterol gallstones.  相似文献

Cholesterol diet-induced hemolytic anemia in rats was described. When rats were fed a cholesterol diet for 11 weeks, serum cholesterol rapidly increased within the first week, and was maintained in 5-10 times higher levels throughout the study as compared to those of control rats. Erythrocyte count, hematocrit and hemoglobin concentration decreased from about 2 weeks of feeding. The spleen showed an increase of hemosiderin deposition from 6 weeks of feeding. The half life of erythrocytes labelled with 51Cr was shortened significantly at 6 weeks of feeding. These findings indicate that cholesterol diet can induce hemolytic anemia. Serum cholesterol and phospholipid were markedly increased, but in erythrocyte membrane, free cholesterol content was not persistently increased and phospholipid content was decreased. In hemorrheological studies, erythrocyte deformability and mechanical hemolysis tended to reduce. In conclusion, it was considered that as a result of reduced phospholipid content the erythrocytes of cholesterol-fed rats were decreased in its deformability and were captured more easily by the spleen. The profile of hemolytic anemia in cholesterol-fed rats was quite different from those reported in cholesterol-fed guinea pigs, rabbits and dogs.  相似文献

Thirteen middle-aged women and 10 men walked 344 km during 7 days. The daily walking distances were 57, 53, 67, 53, 41, 36, and 37 km at an average speed of 3.5 km X h-1. During the hike the subjects drank water, mineral drinks, and juices ad libitum. Except for some natural products, no food intake was allowed. During the hike the body weight and serum protein concentration of the subjects decreased by about 7%, on average. Serum triglyceride and total cholesterol decreased drastically, about 30-40% during the hike, but HDL-cholesterol showed a tendency to increase, giving a 40% increment in HDL/total cholesterol ratio. Serum free fatty acids rose 1.5-2 times above the starting level. Serum glucose and evening insulin levels decreased significantly during the hike. Serum cortisol in evening samples after the daily walking and plasma norepinephrine concentrations were significantly increased, reflecting the immediate daily response to the combined fasting and walking. Serum testosterone levels decreased in men but not in women, indicating the involvement of the LH-testis pathway in the decrease obtained. Serum ASAT activity rose to about three times the starting level during the hike, whereas gamma-GT activity gradually decreased. These marked metabolic changes caused by combined fasting and several days exercise were in many respects (as in cholesterol, HDL/total cholesterol ratio or testosterone levels) more pronounced than those earlier reported to be caused by exercise or fasting alone.  相似文献

It has been suggested that ABCA1 interacts preferentially with lipid-poor apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I). Here, we show that treatment of plasma with dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) multilamellar vesicles generates prebeta(1)-apoA-I-containing lipoproteins (LpA-I)-like particles similar to those of native plasma. Isolated prebeta(1)-LpA-I-like particles inhibited the binding of (125)I-apoA-I to ABCA1 more efficiently than HDL(3) (IC(50) = 2.20 +/- 0.35 vs. 37.60 +/- 4.78 microg/ml). We next investigated the ability of DMPC-treated plasma to promote phospholipid and unesterified (free) cholesterol efflux from J774 macrophages stimulated or not with cAMP. At 2 mg DMPC/ml plasma, both phospholipid and free cholesterol efflux were increased ( approximately 50% and 40%, respectively) in cAMP-stimulated cells compared with unstimulated cells. Similarly, both phospholipid and free cholesterol efflux to either isolated native prebeta(1)-LpA-I and prebeta(1)-LpA-I-like particles were increased significantly in stimulated cells. Furthermore, glyburide significantly inhibited phospholipid and free cholesterol efflux to DMPC-treated plasma. Removal of apoA-I-containing lipoproteins from normolipidemic plasma drastically reduced free cholesterol efflux mediated by DMPC-treated plasma. Finally, treatment of Tangier disease plasma with DMPC affected the amount of neither prebeta(1)-LpA-I nor free cholesterol efflux. These results indicate that DMPC enrichment of normal plasma resulted in the redistribution of apoA-I from alpha-HDL to prebeta-HDL, allowing for more efficient ABCA1-mediated cellular lipid release. Increasing the plasma prebeta(1)-LpA-I level by either pharmacological agents or direct infusions might prevent foam cell formation and reduce atherosclerotic vascular disease.  相似文献

The effect of daily ingestion for 7 days of ethinyloestradiol (30 micrograms) plus DL-norgestrel [0.5 mg] (Eugynon-30) on the lipid composition of duodenal bile in 8 healthy young women was investigated from the fifth day after onset of menstrual bleeding. This treatment did not significantly affect the concentrations of cholesterol, phospholipid and total bile acids expressed as mmol/l, nor the mean molar percentage of phospholipid. However, the treatment caused a significant increase in the mean molar percentage of cholesterol which was accompanied by a significant decrease in the mean molar percentage of total bile acids. The cholesterol saturation index of the bile of 7 subjects was elevated after treatment while both serum cholesterol and testosterone were significantly reduced. The results show that administration to healthy young women, not previously exposed to oral contraceptives, with a low oestrogen-progestin preparation for only 7 days produces a more lithogenic bile, accompanied by a decrease in serum cholesterol and plasma testosterone concentrations.  相似文献

The effects of radiation on the long-term trends of the total serum cholesterol levels of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb survivors were examined using data collected in the Adult Health Study over a 28-year period (1958-1986). The growth-curve method was used to model the longitudinal age-dependent changes in cholesterol levels. For each sex, temporal trends of cholesterol levels were characterized with respect to age, body mass index, city and birth year. We then examined whether the temporal trends differed by radiation dose. We showed that the mean growth curve of cholesterol levels for the irradiated subjects were significantly higher than that for the unirradiated subjects, and that the increase was greater for women than for men. No difference in dose response was detected between Hiroshima and Nagasaki. An increased mean level of cholesterol was evident for irradiated women in general, but a notable increase was apparent in males only for the youngest birth cohort of 1935-1945. The difference in the mean cholesterol levels between the irradiated and unirradiated subjects diminished past 70 years of age. It is not known whether this is due to natural progression or is an artifact of nonrandom variation in the rate of participation in the examinations. The maximum predicted increase at 1 Gy for women occurred at age 52 years for the 1930 cohort: 2.5 mg/dl (95% CI 1.6-3.3 mg/dl) for Hiroshima and 2.3 mg/dl (95% CI 1.5-3.1 mg/dl) for Nagasaki. The corresponding increase for men occurred at age 29 years for the 1940 cohort: 1.6 mg/dl (95% CI 0.4-2.8) for Hiroshima and 1.4 mg/dl (95% CI 0.3-2.6) for Nagasaki. Controlling for cigarette smoking did not alter the dose-response relationship. Although the difference in the mean growth curves of the irradiated and unirradiated groups was statistically significant, there was a considerable overlap in the individual growth curves of the two groups. The significant sex difference and the greater magnitude of radiation effects in women suggest that hormonal changes resulting from radiation exposure, such as accelerated menopause, is an area worth investigating to delineate the mechanisms underlying the increased cholesterol levels of the irradiated female subjects. This increase may also partially explain the increased rate of coronary heart disease seen in the atomic bomb survivors.  相似文献

Defibrotide, (D) an antithrombotic agent, when administered i.v. to cholesterol-fed rabbits decreased cholesterol in the aorta without changing total plasma cholesterol, triglyceride or phospholipid, nor the cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipid and protein of plasma lipoproteins. Platelet aggregation was decreased in rabbits treated with D. There were fewer vascular lesions in the hearts and kidneys of animals treated with D than in animals fed cholesterol and treated with placebo. These data suggest that the antithrombotic activity of D and its ability to reduce platelet sensitivity could help to reduce the amount of cholesterol in the cardiovascular system in atherosclerosis-prone situations.  相似文献

An increasing body of evidence substantiating the effectiveness of balneotherapy has accumulated during recent decades. In the present study, 42 ambulatory patients (23 males and 19 females, mean age 59.5 years) with degenerative musculoskeletal disease were randomised into one of two groups—bathing in tap water or in mineral water at the same temperature—and subjected to 30-min balneotherapy sessions on 15 occasions. Study parameters comprised serum levels of sensitised C-reactive protein (CRP), plasma lipids, heat shock protein (HSP-60) and total antioxidant status (TAS). In both groups, CRP levels followed a decreasing tendency, which still persisted 3 months later. At 3 months after balneotherapy, serum cholesterol levels were still decreasing in patients who had used medicinal water, but exhibited a trend towards an increase in the control group. Triglyceride levels followed a decreasing trend in both patient groups. TAS showed a declining tendency in both groups. No changes of HSP-60 levels were observed in either group. Balneotherapy with the thermal water from Hajdúszoboszló spa had a more pronounced physiological effect compared to that seen in the control group treated with tap water in a 3 month period.  相似文献

Human HDL3 (d 1.125-1.21 g/ml) were treated by an exogenous phospholipase A2 from Crotalus adamenteus in the presence of albumin. Phosphatidylcholine hydrolysis ranged between 30 and 90% and the reisolated particle was essentially devoid of lipolysis products. (1) An exchange of free cholesterol was recorded between radiolabelled erythrocytes at 5-10% haematocrit and HDL3 (0.6 mM total cholesterol) from 0 to 12-15 h. Isotopic equilibration was reached. Kinetic analysis of the data indicated a constant rate of free cholesterol exchange of 13.0 microM/h with a half-time of equilibration around 3 h. Very similar values of cholesterol exchange, specific radioactivities and kinetic parameters were measured when phospholipase-treated HDL replaced control HDL. (2) The lecithin: cholesterol acyltransferase reactivity of HDL3, containing different amounts of phosphatidylcholine, as achieved by various degrees of phospholipase A2 treatment, was measured using a crude preparation of lecithin: cholesterol acyltransferase (the d 1.21-1.25 g/ml plasma fraction). The rate of esterification was determined between 0 and 12 h. Following a 15-30% lipolysis, the lecithin: cholesterol acyltransferase reactivity of HDL3 was reduced about 30-40%, and then continued to decrease, though more slowly, as the phospholipid content was further lowered in the particle. (3) The addition of the lecithin: cholesterol acyltransferase preparation into an incubation medium made of labelled erythrocytes and HDL3 promoted a movement of radioactive cholesterol out of cells, above the values of exchange, and an accumulation of cholesteryl esters in HDL. This reflected a mass consumption of free cholesterol, from both the cellular and the lipoprotein compartments upon the lecithin: cholesterol acyltransferase action. As a consequence of a decreased reactivity, phospholipase-treated HDL (with 2/3 of phosphatidylcholine hydrolyzed) proved much less effective in the lecithin: cholesterol acyltransferase-induced removal of cellular cholesterol.  相似文献

During hibernation, fat is known to be the preferred source of energy. A detailed analysis of different phospholipids, as well as free and esterified cholesterol, was conducted to investigate lipid abnormalities during hibernation. The levels of total phospholipids and total cholesterol in the serum of black bears were found to increase significantly in hibernation as compared with the active state. Both free and esterified cholesterol were increased in the hibernating state in comparison with the active state (P < 0.05). The percentage increase during hibernation was more in free cholesterol (57%) than in esterified cholesterol (27%). Analysis of subclasses of serum phospholipids showed that choline containing phospholipids, i.e., sphingomyelin (SPG) (14%) and phosphatidylcholine (PC) (76%), are the major phospholipids in the serum of bear. The minor phospholipids included 8% of phosphatidylserine (PS) + phosphatidylinositol (PI), while phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) was only 2% of the total phospholipids. A comparison of phospholipid subclasses showed that PC, PS + PI and SPG were significantly increased, while PE was significantly decreased (P < 0.05) in the hibernating state as compared with the active state in black bears. These results suggest that the catabolism of phospholipids and cholesterol is decreased during hibernation in black bears, leading to their increased levels in the hibernating state as compared with the active state. In summary, our results indicate that serum cholesterol and phospholipid fractions (except PE) are increased during hibernation in bears. It is proposed that the increase of these lipids may be due to the altered metabolism of lipoproteins that are responsible for the clearance of the lipids.  相似文献

To determine whether growth hormone (GH) has any impact on the hyperlipidemia seen in cholestatic patients, graded doses of GH in the sequence of 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 u/kg every other day were administered sc to a patient with Alagille syndrome. Serum total cholesterol, phospholipid, and bile acid were measured. The serum levels of all three decreased markedly after GH administration and the lowest levels were observed on the second day after the GH dose of 0.4 u/kg. However, they increased thereafter despite the administration of an increased dose of GH; especially the serum bile acid level returned to the initial value by day 8. Serum levels of SM-C and fT3 were not correlated with the changes in total cholesterol, phospholipid, and bile acid after GH administration. We suggest that the administration of GH may affect the state of hyperlipidemia seen in cholestatic patients.  相似文献

1. Serum cholesterol, PBI and ankle jerk time (AJT) were measured simultaneously in a group of not yet treated patients, where a relatively steady state of thyroid function was expected, and in a treated group, where change to lower thyroid function was supposed (thyrostatic drugs, near total thyroidectomy, radioablation of thyroid). 2. Serum cholesterol correlated poorly with PBI (r = --0,4427), better correlation was achieved after logarithmic transformation of PBI values (r = --0,6839). 3. Reference line and covariance between log PBI and serum cholesterol in decreasing thyroid function did not differ significantly from reference line and covariance in steady state, showing that serum cholesterol accompanies closely and without greater delay the changing PBI. Great dispersion of individual values shows a relatively low diagnostic value of serum cholesterol for assessment of functional thyroid state in individual patients. Early reactivity of serum cholesterol level and highly significant correlation with log PBI makes this parameter useful for longitudinal evaluation of therapy in individual patients. 4. Reference line between AJT and serum cholesterol in decreasing thyroid function was shifted to lower AJT values, showing a delay of response of AJT. Tested by analysis of covariance this delay was marked in young patients (0,5% level of significance), present in medium age (5% level of significance), not detectable in person over 60 years. 5. Delay of AJT changes in decreasing thyroid function is important for clinical practice. Our findings are further in accordance with the assumption, that subcellular systems in skeletal muscle may be responsible for delayed response of AJT, being more important than concomitant changes in serum T3/T4 ratio.  相似文献

Incubation of J774 macrophages with mixtures of acetylated low-density lipoprotein (acLDL) and free cholesterol-rich phospholipid dispersions increases cellular cholesterol deposition 2-4-fold over that achieved with either acLDL or dispersions alone. Both free and esterified cholesterol accumulate in cells incubated with the mixture of acLDL and dispersions. A similar result is observed when acLDL is replaced by malondialdehyde-LDL. The enhanced deposition of cholesterol is not unique to J774 macrophages, as P388D1 macrophages also accumulate more cholesterol when incubated with the mixture of acLDL and dispersions than either particle alone. A preincubation of the particles for at least 6 h prior to incubation with cells is required in order to observe maximal cholesterol delivery. Both dispersion free cholesterol and phospholipid accumulate in J774 cells, suggesting that a complex is formed between acLDL and dispersions which results in a cholesterol-rich acLDL/dispersion particle. Partial purification of the acLDL-dispersion complex revealed increases in the size distribution of the particles compared to acLDL and increases in free cholesterol and phospholipid contents. Cholesterol uptake from the mixture of acLDL and dispersions was saturable and the enhanced cellular uptake of both cholesterol and phospholipid from the complex could be abolished by inhibitors of the scavenger receptor pathway. In addition to the receptor-mediated uptake of cholesterol from the acLDL-dispersion complex, it was observed that approx. 30% of the total cholesterol uptake from the complex was via non-specific components, including surface transfer.  相似文献

The LXR nuclear receptors are intracellular sensors of cholesterol excess and are activated by various oxysterols. LXRs have been shown to regulate multiple genes of lipid metabolism, including ABCA1 (formerly known as ABC1). ABCA1 is a lipid pump that effluxes cholesterol and phospholipid out of cells. ABCA1 deficiency causes extremely low high density lipoprotein (HDL) levels, demonstrating the importance of ABCA1 in the formation of HDL. The present work shows that the acetyl-podocarpic dimer (APD) is a potent, selective agonist for both LXRalpha (NR1H3) and LXRbeta (NR1H2). In transient transactivation assays, APD was approximately 1000-fold more potent, and yielded approximately 6-fold greater maximal stimulation, than the widely used LXR agonist 22-(R)-hydroxycholesterol. APD induced ABCA1 mRNA levels, and increased efflux of both cholesterol and phospholipid, from multiple cell types. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry measurements demonstrated that APD stimulated efflux of endogenous cholesterol, eliminating any possible artifacts of cholesterol labeling. For both mRNA induction and stimulation of cholesterol efflux, APD was found to be more effective than was cholesterol loading. Taken together, these data show that APD is a more effective LXR agonist than endogenous oxysterols. LXR agonists may therefore be useful for the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis, especially in the context of low HDL levels.  相似文献

This study addresses the correlation between the levels of estradiol (E2), total lipids, triglycerides, and cholesterol in serum and tissue samples of age-matched patients with benign (40 cases; 16 were premenopausal and 24 were postmenopausal) and malignant (50 cases; 17 were premenopausal and 33 were postmenopausal) breast tumors. Estradiol levels were determined in serum and cytosol, estrogen receptors (ER) were assayed in cytosol, and total lipids, triglycerides and cholesterol were determined in serum and membrane fractions of all benign and malignant breast disease patients. Serum E2 was significantly higher in malignant cases than benign ones (P<0.05) with a significant reduction (40%) in postmenopausal than premenopausal women. ER-positive tumors were significantly higher in postmenopausal women with malignant breast tumors than benign cases (P<0.05). Tissue levels of total lipids, triglycerides, and cholesterol were highly significantly increased in breast cancer women than women with benign breast diseases (P<0.05, P<0.005 and P<0.05 respectively) and they were also significantly correlated with estradiol levels. It could be concluded that the uptake of lipids from plasma by the tumor tissue is greatly correlated to estradiol and it may confirm the possible role of lipids as risk factor in breast cancer.  相似文献
