The fatty acid (FA) composition of total lipids isolated from the marine sponge Halichondria panicea inhabiting Peter the Great Bay of Sea of Japan was studied. GC and GC-MS techniques helped identify 63 FAs, with the main attention being paid to FAs with 14-22 carbon atoms. 4, 8, 12-Trimethyl-13:0 FA was for the first time identified as the main saturated FA along with the branched FAs br-25:1, br-27:1, and br-27:2. The contents of arachidonic, eicosapentaenoic, docosapentaenoic, and the major demospongic acids [26:3(5, 9, 19), 26:3(5, 9, 17), 27:3(5, 9, 20), and 28:3(5, 9, 21)] considerably differed from those previously found for H. panicea, which may be due to seasonal changes in the species composition of organisms consumed by the sponge.  相似文献

The O-polysaccharide from Vibrio cholerae O6 was isolated from the LPS by mild-acid hydrolysis and has been investigated by sugar and methylation analysis and NMR spectroscopy. The polysaccharide was also depolymerized with aqueous hydrofluoric acid to give the repeating unit and multiples thereof. The O-polysaccharide had the following tetrasaccharide repeating unit. Two O-acetyl groups are present, one of them making the GlcNAc residue fully substituted and the steric crowding considerable at the branching residue.  相似文献

One can relate the saltiness of a solution of a given substance to the concentration of the solution by means of one of the well-known psychophysical laws. One can also compare the saltiness of solutions of different solutes which have the same concentration, since different substances are intrinsically more salty or less salty. We develop here an equation that relates saltiness both to the concentration of the substance (psychophysical) and to a distinguishing physical property of the salt (intrinsic). For a fixed standard molar entropy of the salt being tasted, the equation simplifies to Fechner's law. When one allows for the intrinsic 'noise' in the chemoreceptor, the equation generalizes to include Stevens's law, with corresponding decrease in the threshold for taste. This threshold reduction exemplifies the principle of stochastic resonance. The theory is validated with reference to experimental data.  相似文献

Late medieval soot-coated thatch includes a number of very well preserved weeds as well as cereals or reeds. This paper investigates the weeds from the thatch roofs of 13 cottages from the south of England. It describes the exceptional preservation of the weeds which include plant parts rarely recorded in archaeological contexts and the information they can give about late medieval ecology and agronomy. One of the main implications of this study is the relation of this material to the usual archaeological samples and the possibility that remains of thatch may have been missed in past archaeobotanical investigations.  相似文献

Four new brachiopod species from the order Acrotretida (class Lingulata): Picnotreta saryarkensis sp. nov., Stilpnotreta propria sp. nov., Anabolotreta firma sp. nov., and Batenevotreta variabilis sp. nov. are described from the Agyrek Mountains, northeastern Central Kazakhstan from two olistoliths of limestones, which contain the uppermost Middle and lowermost Upper Cambrian fauna and are located in the Upper Ordovician olistostrome. These new species supplement the described earlier brachiopod assemblage from this region (Koneva and Ushatinskaya, 2008). Strong age and intraspecific variability of some Kazakh acrotretids is shown.  相似文献

Exophthalmos may be due to an inflammatory process or to tumor formation. Inflammatory processes are most likely to occur in children and young adults. Tumors are the most common cause of exophthalmos in adults.Since the advent of chemotherapy and the antibiotics, rarely does orbital cellulitis develop from sinal infection. Tumors causing exophthalmos are likely to be benign if they arise from the frontal sinus and malignant if they arise from the maxillary and ethmoid sinuses.  相似文献

The circadian rhythm of locomotor activity of the field mouse Mus booduga was studied and single animal phase response curves (PRCs) (n = 8) were constructed for 15-min daylight pulses of 1000 lux intensity. The light pulses, presented at different phases of the circadian cycle, evoked advancing and delaying phase shifts (ΔPHs) depending on the circadian time (CT) of light pulse application. ΔPHs by light pulses applied at the same phase are strongly correlated with the animals' circadian period (τ). The results indicate a significant correlation between (i) τ and the area under the advance zone of the PRC (A) (r = +0.72, p > 0.05), (ii) τ and the area under the delay zone of the PRC (D) (r = -0.98, p > 0.00001), (iii) τ and the difference between the area under delay and advance zone of PRC (D-A) (r = -0.97, p > 0.00001), and (iv) between τ and ΔpHs (at various phases of the circadian cycle) and further suggest that the waveform and time course of PRC depend on the animals' endogenous period (τ). There are many causes of abnormal protrusion of one or both eyes, the most common of which is imbalance of the glands of internal secretion. Among other causes are a variety of tumors that originate behind the eye or that extend to that location from other parts in the body. Infections can extend to the orbit behind the eye from the neighboring structures such as the paranasal sinuses. When the galactan from the albumen glands of the snail Strophocheilus oblongus was submitted to three Smith-degradations, the degraded polysaccharide, isolated in 6% yield, was much more linear. Methylation analysis showed that the Smith-degraded polysaccharide gave an increased percentage of 2,4,6-tri-, decreased percentages of 2,3,4,6-tetra- and 2,4-di-, and a large variation in the amount of 2,3,4-tri-O-methyl-d-galactose. The sugars in the polysaccharide which result in the formation of 2,3,4,6-tetra- and 2,3,4-tri-O-methyl-d-galactose are destroyed in subsequent degradation procedures. The above observations suggest that the degradation by periodate oxidation proceeds via non-reducing end-groups and through some internal residues that are exposed as the degradation proceeds. As a result of the overall process, new non-reducing end-groups are formed and new (1 → 6)-linked d-galactose residues are then exposed. The isolation of glycosides of low molecular weight supports the suggestion that the molecule, in the main, is sequentially degraded from the external layers.  相似文献

Two methods for preparing membrane fractions from barley (Hordeum vulgare cv California Mariout 72) roots were compared in order to resolve reported differences between the characteristics of the plasma membrane ATPase of barley and that of other species. When microsomal membranes were prepared by a published procedure and applied to a continuous sucrose gradient, the membranes sedimented as a single broad band with a peak density of 1.16 grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm3). Activities of NADH cytochrome (Cyt) c reductase, Ca2+-ATPase, and Mg2+-ATPase were coincident and there was little ATP-dependent proton transport anywhere on the gradient. When the homogenization procedure was modified by increasing the pH of the buffer and the ratio of buffer to roots, the microsomal membranes separated as several components on a continuous sucrose gradient. A Ca2+-phosphatase was at the top of the gradient, NADH Cyt c reductase at 1.08 g/cm3, a peak of ATP-dependent proton transport at 1.09 to 1.12 g/cm3, a peak of nitrate-inhibited ATPase at 1.09 to 1.12 g/cm3, and of vanadate-inhibited ATPase at 1.16 g/cm3. The Ca2+-phosphatase had no preference for ATP over other nucleoside di- and tri-phosphates and was separated from the vanadate-inhibited ATPase on a sucrose gradient; approximately 70% of the Ca2+-phosphatase was removed from the microsomes by washing with 150 millimolar KCl. The vanadate-sensitive ATPase required Mg2+, was highly specific for ATP, and was not affected by the KCl wash. These results show that barley roots have a plasma membrane ATPase similar to that of other plant species.  相似文献

ATP-stimulated prostacyclin release from veins was investigated using epigastric veins isolated from hamsters. Veins were perfused with MOPS-buffered physiological salt solution (PSS). ATP was administered into the perfusate, and the bath solution (MOPS-PSS) was collected and assayed for the presence of the stable prostacyclin metabolite 6-keto-PGF1alpha. ATP (100 microM) resulted in reproducible increases in bath concentration from 73 +/- 22 to 279 +/- 50 pg/ml (P < 0.05, n = 5). This response was abolished by indomethacin (10 microM, P < 0.05). To ascertain whether the endothelium was the source of prostacyclin, endothelium was disrupted using air (n = 10) or deoxycholic acid (n = 6). Perfusion with air significantly reduced (P < 0.05) but did not completely abolish ATP-stimulated release of prostacyclin, while deoxycholic acid totally abolished the response (P < 0.05). The nonselective P2 receptor antagonist reactive blue 2 (100 microM) attenuated ATP-mediated release of prostacyclin but did not significantly alter ACh-stimulated release of prostacyclin. The nonselective adenosine receptor antagonist xanthine amine congener (1 microM) had no effect on ATP-stimulated release, and adenosine did not stimulate the release of prostacyclin. These results show that increases in intraluminal concentration of ATP stimulate abluminal release of prostacyclin from the venous endothelium. This effect is mediated by P2 receptors while adenosine and its receptors are not involved in this response.  相似文献
