Experiments on the swimming kinetics and behaviour of weather loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus showed that horizontal swim speed was significantly greater than swim speeds when ascending to or descending from the water surface to gulp air. Vertical swimming speeds during ascending or descending were similar. Misgurnus anguillicaudatus swam unsteadily during vertical movements compared with horizontal movements.  相似文献

A 10 week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different dietary soybean oil (SO) levels on growth performance, fatty‐acid composition and lipid deposition in viscera, histology and histochemistry of liver, intestine and hepatic‐lipid metabolism‐related gene expressions in pond loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus juveniles. Misgurnus anguillicaudatus (mean ± s.d. mass 0·40 ± 0·01 g) were fed five experimental diets containing SO at different concentrations: 0, 20, 32, 56 and 100% SO and a diet containing 100% fish oil (100% FO). The mass gains and specific growth rates of M. anguillicaudatus fed 20% SO and 100% FO diets were significantly higher than those of the other groups (P < 0·05). The lipid content of viscera and the amount of cytoplasmic vacuolation in the liver increased with incremental dietary SO level. Meanwhile, increasing dietary SO levels up‐regulated the messenger (m)RNA levels of lipogenic genes (such as Δ6fad, scd, pparγ, fas and srebp‐1) and down‐regulated the mRNA levels of the lipolytic genes (such as pparα, cpt1, atgl and hsl) in the liver. The percentage of 20:4n‐6 significantly (P < 0·05) increased with increasing dietary SO level, which might be correlated with the up‐regulation of the mRNA level of Δ6fad. The highest levels of dietary SO, however, had a negative effect on growth performance, lipid deposition of viscera and histology and histochemstry of liver and intestine. The increased lipid accumulation induced by incremental dietary SO level probably occurred through different strategies for lipid metabolism as a result of competition between lipolysis and lipogenesis and between export and import of lipids in this species.  相似文献

The loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus is a freshwater fish which include natural polyploids and clones besides most bisexually reproducing diploids. Recent genetic studies using allozymes differentiated the populations in northern region of Hokkaido from other populations in Japan. Here, we developed 23 new sets of polymerase chain reaction primers to detect polymorphic microsatellites loci and tested them in 20 individuals from Memanbetsu town (northern Hokkaido) and Kita village (southern Hokkaido). Synopsis This study deals with the daily activity rhythm and its change in a loath,Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, by season and age. We set traps in an irrigation creek and ditches around the paddy fields near Nara city every month for 2 years. The fish appeared in spring, declined in early summer, and increased in mid-summer again, and disappeared in late autumn. The number of fish captured at night was greater than that during the daytime in summer. There were some differences in the daily rhythms by sex and age. Nocturnal activities of males and immatures were more prominent than those of females. Younger generation were more nocturnally active than elders in summer. Changes in the daily activity rhythms of the loath are possibly adaptive to unstable environments around paddy fields.  相似文献

This study, carried out in a paddy fields area in eastern Japan, investigated the timing and patterns of fish movement and assemblage in an artificial wetland and canal. The number of Misgurnus anguillicaudatus and Lefua echigonia immigrating and emigrating between the wetland and the canal accounted for 80–90 % of all the sampled fish. M. anguillicaudatus, L. echigonia, Pseudorasbora parva and Rhynchocypris lagowskii were dominant in the wetland. Immigration of mature M. anguillicaudatus and L. echigonia was detected between late winter and spring. The standard length of the two loach species in the wetland was smaller than that in the canal. These results confirm that wetlands play a role in spawning and nursery for the two species of loaches. The standard length of P. parva in the wetland was smaller than in the canal. This suggests that the wetland was a more suitable spawning and nursery area for this fish species than the canal. L. echigonia used the wetland as a spawning and nursery area, but previous studies reported that the loach did not use paddy fields near the wetland. This could be because the paddy fields were irrigated between June and September and this period did not largely overlap with the fish spawning season. Therefore, we conclude that the conservation and restoration of wetlands, where water is present throughout the year, will contribute toward the preservation of the fish population in a paddy fields area.  相似文献

Although it has been reported that populations of the Japanese dojo loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus (Cypriniformes: Cobitidae) belong to two distinct mitochondrial (mt)DNA (Type I and Type II), the taxonomic status of the species remains unresolved. To address this question, nuclear DNA and morphological analyses were performed on M. anguillicaudatus population in the Nakaikemi Wetland, where Type I and Type II lineages are sympatric. Results suggest the existence of a cryptic species (Type I) within the Japanese dojo loach.  相似文献

Diploids and tetraploids of the cyprinid loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus coexist in many natural habitats in Asia. However, little is known about the biological and ecological differences between these two ploidy forms. We examined age, body size and growth rates of fish in a mixed ploidy population of M. anguillicaudatus in the Yangtze River basin in China. The sex ratios of both diploid and tetraploid M. anguillicaudatus were highly skewed toward females, who tended to be larger than males. The age distributions of the collected specimens clearly indicated that tetraploids lived longer than diploids. For example, we found a substantial number of tetraploids that were 5+ years old, while the oldest diploids were 4+ years old. Tetraploids were also longer and heavier than diploids for both sexes. Using the empirical body size and age data, we inferred the growth patterns of these fish with the von Bertalanffy growth function. The estimated asymptotic body lengths (L ) indicated that tetraploids could indeed achieve larger body sizes than diploids. This difference was partially due to the increased growth rate, as demonstrated by lower growth coefficient (K) and higher growth performance index (φ’). In sum, we show that tetraploid M. anguillicaudatus exhibited significantly increased longevity and superior growth performance compared to diploids. These differences may contribute to the ecological competitiveness of tetraploid M. anguillicaudatus, thus enabling them to coexist with diploids in certain ecological settings.  相似文献

黄山陈村水库上游河源溪流的鱼类群落及其纵向梯度格局   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
确定鱼类群落的分布格局及其对人类活动的响应,是合理保护、恢复和管理鱼类多样性的基础。基于2011年5月和10月自黄山陈村水库上游3条河源溪流共39个样点的调查数据,比较研究了溪流间鱼类群落及其纵向梯度格局的异同,着重探讨了人类活动对溪流鱼类群落纵向梯度格局的影响。研究结果显示,同人为干扰较轻的舒溪相比,人为干扰严重的浦溪和麻溪中水宽、底质和植被覆盖率等局域栖息地条件显著变化,这造成了后者的鱼类多样性显著下降及物种组成的显著变化,主要表现为敏感性的地方物种(如宽鳍鱲、光唇鱼、原缨口鳅等)数量减少、耐受性的广布物种(如泥鳅、麦穗鱼、高体鰟鲏等)数量增多。舒溪的鱼类物种数及其组成均与海拔显著相关,但这种"海拔-鱼类群落"关系在麻溪和浦溪中削弱甚至消失。底质、植被覆盖率对舒溪鱼类群落具有重要影响,但对浦溪和麻溪鱼类群落却无显著影响。研究结果表明,在子流域空间尺度上,诸如城镇化发展、土地利用、河道治理等人类活动可通过对局域栖息地条件的影响,导致溪流鱼类多样性下降及其物种组成的变化,破坏鱼类群落的纵向梯度格局,并改变栖息地与鱼类群落之间的联系。  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of five live organisms (Artemia, Brachionus calyciflorus, Chironomus plumosus, Moina macrocopa and Tubifex sp.) and an artificial diet (40% protein) in the larval rearing of Asian catfish Clarias macrocephalus. The larvae were fed three times daily starting at the onset of exogenous feeding. Results showed that the catfish larvae utilized the live organisms more efficiently than the artificial diet. The Tubifex‐fed larvae consistently showed the highest growth rate. In trial 1, length increment (64.9 mm), weight gain (3192 mg) and specific growth rate (13.1%) after 8 weeks of feeding were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in catfish larvae given Tubifex than those in all other treatments. In trial 2, length increment after 4 weeks of feeding was highest in larvae fed Tubifex (22.9 mm) although it did not significantly differ from that of larvae given Moina (21.0 mm). However, weight gain of larvae fed Tubifex (253.0 mg) was significantly higher than that of larvae fed Moina (171.6 mg). The specific growth rate was highest for larvae fed Tubifex (15.0%) followed by larvae fed Artemia (14.5%), Moina (14.4%) and Chironomus (12.0%). Survival rates of the catfish larvae ranged from 9 to 39% after 8 weeks in trial 1 and from 26 to 83% after 4 weeks in trial 2. The present results suggest that Tubifex is an excellent food and a potential substitute for Artemia in the rearing of catfish larvae.  相似文献

Despite the fact that flow and channel morphology are two critical factors that need to be taken into account when considering the conservation or restoration of river environments, there are no reports on the response of fish assemblages to changes involving both variables in combination. This study examined the response of fish assemblages to artificially induced changes in flow discharge in an experimental stream that had simple (a glide reach) and complex (pool–riffle reach) morphologies. When the flow of the glide reach was increased, the fish assemblage structure changed from one dominated by the demersal species Misgurnus anguillicaudatus and Cobitis sp. to one dominated by the water-column species Zacco platypus and Gnathopogon elongatus. In the pool–riffle reach, the fish assemblage structure changed from one dominated by Cobitis sp. and Z. platypus to one dominated by Plecoglossus altivelis altivelis. When the flow discharge was low, the fish assemblages of both reach types resembled each other in being dominated largely by demersal species, but when flow was increased these similarities faded and distinct assemblages emerged. In the glide reach, increasing the flow volume caused a linear increase in both water depth and velocity and a gradual increase in the diversity of water-column species, their relative abundance, and size. The number of Z. platypus increased fivefold whereas the number of M. anguillicaudatus decreased to less than a quarter of their original number. In the pool–riffle reach, the number of P. altivelis altivelis grew conspicuously although increased flow produced no clear increase in depth or velocity. Calculation of the availability of physical habitat environments suitable for Z. platypus and P. altivelis altivelis in each reach type indicated that preferable habitat for both species was more available in the glide reach. The lower abundance of P. altivelis altivelis in the glide reach was attributed to the relatively low availability of algal food resource due to the sand-predominated substrate whereas pebbles predominated in the pool–riffle reach providing good conditions for algal growth. Our findings suggest the need for a framework for considering environmental flow that takes into account variables such as channel morphology and food resource conditions.  相似文献

On coral reefs in New Caledonia, the eggs of demersal‐spawning fishes are consumed by turtle‐headed seasnakes (Emydocephalus annulatus). Fish repel nest‐raiding snakes by a series of tactics. We recorded 232 cases (involving 22 fish species) of antipredator behaviour towards snakes on a reef near Noumea. Blennies and gobies focused their attacks on snakes entering their nests, whereas damselfish (Pomacentridae) attacked passing snakes, as well as nest‐raiders (reflecting territorial defence). Biting the snake was the most common form of attack, although damselfish and blennies also slapped snakes with the tail, or (blennies only) plugged the nest entrance with the parent fish's body. Gobies rarely defended the nest, although they sometimes bit or threw sand at the snake. A snake was more likely to flee if it was attacked before it began feeding rather than after it found the eggs (82% versus 3% repelled) and if bitten on the head rather than the body (68% versus 53%). Tail‐slaps were not effective, although plugging the burrow and throwing sand often caused snakes to flee. These strong patterns reflect phylogenetic variation in fish behaviour (e.g. damselfish detect a snake approach sooner than do substrate‐dwelling blennies and gobies) coupled with intraspecific variation in snake diets. © 2014 The Linnean Society of London, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2015, 114 , 415–425.  相似文献

辛基酚胁迫对雄性泥鳅抗氧化酶及卵黄蛋白原的影响   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
为研究辛基酚(OP)对雄性泥鳅抗氧化酶活性及血清卵黄蛋白原(VTG)含量的影响,将雄性泥鳅分别暴露于4种不同质量浓度OP(0.12、0.19、0.32、0.52 mg/L)中持续7、14、21 d和28 d,采用试剂盒检测肝脏超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)与过氧化氢酶(CAT)的含量,采用碱不稳定性蛋白结合磷法检测血清VTG的含量。结果表明,0.12 mg/L OP胁迫14 d,肝脏SOD和CAT含量均无显著变化,但是随着胁迫剂量增大和时间延长,SOD和CAT含量降低极其显著,在0.52 mg/L OP胁迫28 d时降到最低水平;泥鳅在0.12 mg/L OP中暴露7 d时,血清VTG含量就有极其显著升高,且随着胁迫剂量增大和时间的延长,VTG含量呈升高趋势。提示OP胁迫对SOD和CAT活性有显著的抑制作用,并随胁迫剂量增大和时间延长而抑制加剧,造成氧化损伤;OP胁迫可诱导VTG合成,并随暴露剂量增大和时间延长而诱导增强,具有明显的雌激素效应,这可能与其氧化损伤有密切关系。  相似文献

Food intake, growth, conversion efficiency and body composition of the non-air breathing catfish Mystus vittatus (Bloch) were studied in relation to different feeding levels. Fish weighing 817.9 ± 104.00 mg was found to consume a maximum of 156.0 mg live Tubifex worm/g day-1. Geometrically derived feeding rates of 6.75, 23.00 and 26.00 mg dry food/g live fish day-1 represent the maintenance, optimum and maximum levels respectively. The SDA increased from 6.75 mg/g day-1 at maintenance to 13.50 mg/g day-1 at maximum feeding rate. Starvation brougt about increase in body water content, while there was concomitant decrease in fat and crude protein.  相似文献

Pairs of juvenile firemouth cichlids, Cichlasoma meeki, were allowed to feed on Tubifex worms for 5 min. In the experiment, the worms were distributed so as to simulate a patchy resource with two levels of average abundance. The dominant member of each ichlid pair exhibited feeding behaviour consistent with expectations from optimal foraging theory, i.e. it fed primarily in the most profitable patch initially. When food was relatively abundant, the subordinate fish fed predominantly in the second most profitable patch. In this way it minimized the costs associated with agonistic activity. This study illustrates the usefulness of a multivariate approach in the study of foraging behaviour.  相似文献

This study investigated the feasibility of using an invasive snail, Pomacea canaliculata, as a food source and water purifier for the commercial breeding of the loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus. The predatory potential of M. anguillicaudatus (3.5–5.5?g) against hatchling snails was evaluated in aquaria and simulated paddy fields. Some hatchling snails left the water to avoid being preyed upon by the loaches, and approximately 10 hatchlings died per day in the presence of five loaches in aquaria, whereas a weaker snail control effect was observed in the simulated paddy fields. The growth of rice seedlings (Oryza sativa) was not reduced by the presence of hatchling snails alone, but the shoot biomass of seedlings coexisting with snails was promoted after introducing the loaches. Additionally, the presence of P. canaliculata adults improved the aquatic environment in the short term for loach breeding by decreasing the turbidity of the water. Importantly, M. anguillicaudatus (12–18?g) mortality decreased and its weight increased in the presence of adult snails.  相似文献

The straight intestinal tract of the mud loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus was divided into an intestine and rectum which consisted of a mucosa (epithelial layer), lamina propria‐submucosa, muscularis and serosa. The intestine and rectum have shorter mucosal folds and a thinner wall. Extensive vascular capillary networks were present in the mucosa of the intestine and the rectum. The diffusion distance between the vascular capillaries and the lumen in the intestinal and rectal mucosal epithelium was about 11.2 μm (±1.12). The majority of the epithelial mucous cells contain acidic mucins although there are small amounts of a mixture of acidic and neutral mucins. The intestinal tract of M. anguillicaudatus is probably modified to suit its role of respiration for the deficient oxygen supply within their environment.  相似文献

Neutrality plots revealed that selection probably dominates codon bias, whereas mutation plays only a minor role, in shaping the codon bias in three loaches, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, M. mohoity, and M. bipartitus. These three species also clearly showed similar tendencies in the preferential usage of codons. Nineteen, nine, and 14 preferred codon pairs and 179, 182, and 173 avoided codon pairs were also detected in M. anguillicaudatus, M. bipartitus, and M. mohoity, respectively, and the most frequently avoided type of cP3-cA1 dinucleotide in these species was nnUAnn. The expression-linked patterns of codon usage revealed that higher expression was associated with higher GC3, lower ENC, and a smaller proportion of amino acids with high size/complexity (S/C) scores in these three species. These results elucidate selectively driven codon bias in Misgurnus species, and reveal the potential importance of expression-mediated selection in shaping the genome evolution of fish.  相似文献

Direct observations of spawning events of large free-swimming migratory fish are difficult in nature. However, behavioural changes specific to spawning events of fish species, i.e. swimming depth or acceleration of body motion using data loggers attached to the body, have successfully been used to identify spawning. In this study, we observed the spawning behaviour in an experimental tank of a pair of greater amberjack Seriola dumerili, which were matured by injection of gonadotropin, by attaching an acceleration data logger, an accelerometer. The male and female were observed to vibrate their bodies during the moment of spawning. Analysis of the acceleration data showed the simultaneous appearance of a dominant cycle (cycle indicating the highest amplitude in 1?s) under 0.4?s continuing over 7?sand dominant amplitude over 0.4 indicating the time of the spawning in both sexes. These characteristics are useful for the development of an algorithm to detect the spawning behaviour, allowing us to develop a new data logger with an on-board algorithm for detection of spawning behaviour. Before development of this system, we need to develop new algorithms for separation of spawning behaviour from other similar large motion behaviours, particularly from feeding and prey avoidance behaviour.  相似文献

The eye of the fish has a lifelong persistent neurogenesis unlike eye of mammals, so it's highly interesting to study retinal neurogenesis and its genetic control to give complete knowledge about the cause of this property in fish in comparison to mammals. We performed fluorescent in situ hybridisation for loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus bmi1, msi1 and sox2 genes, which are used as an indicator of the sites of multipotent stem cells. Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), bromodeoxyuridine (BRDU) and KI67 markers were used as indicators of proliferating cells and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) immunofluorescence was used for detection of the glial property of cells, as well as, immunohistochemistry detected the role of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)α and γ in retinal neurogenesis. Our results determined that the lens and the retina of loach M. anguillicaudatus contain proliferative and pluripotent stem cells that have both glial and neuroepithelial properties, which add new cells continuously throughout life even without injury-induced proliferation. The PPARα has an essential function in providing energy supply for retinal neurogenesis more than PPARγ.  相似文献
