Stress can be defined as physical and psychological modifications that disrupt the homeostasis and the balance of organisms. Stress is known as one of the most important reasons of several diseases. In the present study, the anti-stress effect of betaine was evaluated with reference to its antioxidant property. Wistar albino rats were divided into four groups such as control, betaine, restraint stress (6 h/day for 30 days), and betaine + restraint stress. The oxidative damage was assessed by measuring the protein and corticosterone in plasma, lipid peroxidation, non-enzymic (reduced glutathione), and enzymic antioxidants (glutathione peroxidase, glutathione-S-transferase, catalase, and superoxide dismutase) in the lymphoid organs of thymus and spleen. Followed by the induction of restraint stress, the non-enzymic and enzymic antioxidants were significantly decreased with concomitant increase observed in the levels of corticosterone and lipid peroxidation. Oral pretreatment with betaine (250 mg/kg body weight daily for a period of 30 days) significantly (P < 0.001) prevented the restraint stress-induced alterations in the levels of protein and corticosterone in plasma of experimental groups of rats. It counteracted the restraint stress-induced lipid peroxidation and maintained the antioxidant defense system in the lymphoid tissues at near normal. The findings suggest that betaine possesses significant anti-stress activity, which may be due to its antioxidant property.  相似文献

Oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) may be a prelude to atherogenesis and directly age related. To assess whether there may be relationship between age and plasma lipoprotein (LP) oxidation, we studied copper-mediated LP oxidation isolated from the blood of 2 months, 7 months, and 15 months old rats. We determined whether the susceptibility of LP to oxidation might be related to vitamin C levels in serum, vitamin E levels in LP, or the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of serum or LP. Serum vitamin C content was inversely related to age, malondialdehyde (MDA) propagation rate, and maximum change of MDA concentrations. However, there were no significant relationships between age and serum TAC, LP TAC, serum vitamin E, or the ratio of LP vitamin E to serum vitamin C content. The lag phase of MDA formation was significantly decreased with age and the ratio of LP vitamin E content to serum vitamin C content, increased with age. Maximum change of MDA concentration was positively correlated with the ratio of LP vitamin E contents to serum vitamin C concentration. Thus, as the rat ages, vitamin C status decreases with an increased LP susceptibility to oxidation. It is tempting to speculate that enhanced LP oxidation in older rats may reflect a reduced amount of recycling of LDL vitamin E by serum vitamin C.  相似文献

Sanchi, also known as Radix Notoginseng, is a Chinese traditional medicine prepared from roots of the herb Panax notoginseng. Sanchi is traditionally used as a hemostatic to control internal and external bleeding but also shows diverse bioactivities that include increasing coronary blood flow and reducing myocardial oxygen consumption and blood pressure. Although research into the potential cardioprotective effects of Sanchi is ongoing in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, we sought to explore potential benefits in cardiovascular disorders associated with excess cholesterol and hyperlipidemia. We have investigated the effects of Sanchi as a dietary supplement on hyperlipidemia and oxidative stress in male Sprague-Dawley rats maintained on a high-fat diet. Diets were supplemented with Sanchi at 0.25%, 0.5% and 1% (w/w) for four weeks, while control animals received no supplement. Sanchi administration to hyperlipidemic rats resulted in a significant decline in serum levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol, with an increase in serum high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels. Treated animals also showed reduced levels of hepatic HMG-CoA reductase. Furthermore, Sanchi improved hepatic antioxidant status as assessed by superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities and reduced levels of lipid peroxidation. These results suggest that Sanchi consumption can improve lipid profiles, inhibit peroxidation, and increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes, and is thereby likely to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease associated with hyperlipidemia and oxidative stress.  相似文献

The present study was designed to determine age-related changes in intestinal and hepatic antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), and glutathione-S-transferase (GST), and lipid peroxidation in male Wistar rats (n = 8) aged 2 wk, 2.5 mon, 5 mon, 10 mon, and 23 mon. In the small intestine, cytosolic SOD, GSH-PX activities and lipid peroxidation were not affected by age, but intestinal GST activity was noticeably enhanced as age increased. In particular, intestinal GST activity in 23 mon old rats was 3 times as strong as that in 2 wk old rats. In the liver, the activity of hepatic cytosolic SOD was not affected by age, whereas GSH-PX and GST activities in rats aged 10 mon and 23 mon were much stronger than those in rats aged 2 wk, 2.5 mon, and 5 mon. The increased lipid peroxidation in 2.5 mon and 5 mon old rats was observed when compared with that of other groups. It is therefore concluded from the results presented here that age greatly increases GST activity in the small intestinal mucosae and increasing GSH-PX, GST activities and lipid peroxidation in the liver from male Wistar rats.  相似文献

We investigated the senescence process in two nonnetted muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.)␣varieties␣Clipper and Jerac differing in their storage life. Our results indicate that senescence in Jerac (the short-storage-life variety, less than 7 d) is the result of lipid peroxidation by free radicals, membrane phospholipid breakdown, and a drop in the level of antioxidants, resulting in increased membrane leakiness. By contrast, evidence is presented that the high levels of two enzymes implicated in antioxidative defence, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase, combined with changes in the three different classes of SOD during the storage stage, are involved in delaying the senescence process in Clipper and this could explain, at least, to some extent, the long storage life of Clipper (longer than 14 d). Cellular defense system, including glutathione, glutathione-related enzymes, and antioxidant and redox enzymes, may play crucial roles in the aging of aerobic organisms. To understand the physiological roles of these factors in the aging process, their levels were compared in the livers and brains of 5-week- and 9-month-old rats. GST activity was higher in livers and brains of 9-month-old rats than in those of 5-week-old rats, and brain catalase activity was about 2-fold higher. However, it was unchanged in the livers of the 9-month-old rats. gamma-Glutamylcysteine synthetase activity was about 2-fold higher in the brains of the older rats but again not in their livers. In contrast glutathione synthetase activity appeared to be lower in the livers of the older rats while GSH content did not change with age in livers and brains. Glutathione peroxidase activity was higher in 9-month-old rat brains, but lower in 9-month-old rat livers, while superoxide dismutase activity was higher in both tissues in the older rats. The activities of two redox enzymes, thiol-transferase and thioredoxin reductase, did not change with age, nor did that of glutathione reductase. These results indicate that levels of different cellular defense systems vary with age in an irregular manner.  相似文献

The main aim of this work was to provide baseline data on aspects of pro-oxidant and antioxidant processes in different life-stages of the marine amphipod Gammarus locusta. The activities of antioxidant enzymes and levels of lipid peroxidation were determined in whole body juveniles, subadults, and male and female adults of a laboratory population of G. locusta. Fatty acid composition of individuals at these different stages of development was also characterised in order to examine the contribution that polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) might make to the peroxidation status of animals. The antioxidant enzymes, measured in whole body 100,000 supernatants, comprised catalase (CAT, EC 1.11.1.6), superoxide dismutase (SOD; EC 1.15.1.1) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX; EC 1.11.1.9). Fatty acids were analysed as fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). Lipid peroxidation was examined in terms of the levels of lipid peroxides determined as thiobarbituric acid-reactive malondialdehyde equivalents. Age-related changes were seen in antioxidant enzyme status: levels of SOD (p<0.01) and GPX (p<0.001) activities decreased progressively during development from juveniles to adults. Sex-related changes in GPX activity were also seen, the levels being higher in adult males than females (p<0.001). The amount of FAME present in whole body amphipod also changed over the life span. Among PUFA, the eicosapentaenoic (C20:5n-3), arachidonic (C20:4n-6) and docosahexaenoic (C22:6n-3) were the most abundant acids in this species, and both their individual concentrations and total PUFA increased progressively with age (up to 3.3-fold; p<0.001). The latter changes may contribute to the explanation of the observed differences in peroxidation status of the animals with age; thus, levels of lipid peroxides increased up to 40% in adult males compared to other age-classes (p<0.01). Overall, the decline in antioxidant enzyme activities, coupled with increased levels of PUFA, as the individual grows older, may render the older animals more susceptible to lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress.  相似文献

Effects of fluoride on the levels of Lipid peroxidation (LP) and antioxidant enzymes in the brain regions of protein undernourished (PU) and well-fed rats (WF) rats exposed to 100 ppm fluoride in drinking water were investigated. The results indicate that the mean body weights and the total brain weights of PU rats as well as those given fluoride (both WF and PU) were significantly (P < 0.05) lower than their respective controls. The weights of different brain regions were also significantly reduced (P < 0.05) in PU rats compared to WF rats except in the brain stem. Fluoride ingestion diminished the weights of WF and PU rats affecting the cerebrum only (in the case of PU rats) and the cerebellum of both WF and PU rats without an effect on the brain stem of both WF and PU. Additionally, increased LP was observed in the cerebrum and cerebellum of PU rats but after fluoride ingestion, 30% increase in LP was observed only in the cerebrum. In the brain stem however, protein undernutrition was accompanied with a significant reduction in LP but the region seems insensitive to fluoride. There were significant reductions (P < 0.05) in CAT, SOD and GSH in all the brain regions (except the GSH level in the brain stem only) of PU rats. Fluoride induced reduction in the activity of CAT in the three brain regions and on SOD activity in cerebrum only for WF rats but no effect of fluoride on all the antioxidants studied in the three brain regions for PU rats. It is concluded that WF and PU rats responded differently to fluoride toxicity. However, it seems that at the dosage used, fluoride toxicity may be a direct effect on the antioxidant enzymes.  相似文献

Abstract

Objective

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the protective effect of kaempferol against oxidative stress in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats.

Methods

Diabetes was induced in male, adult albino rats of the Wistar strain, by intraperitoneal administration of STZ (40 mg/kg body weight (BW)). Kaempferol (100 mg/kg BW) or glibenclamide (600 µg/kg BW) was administered orally once daily for 45 days to normal and STZ-induced diabetic rats.

Results

The STZ-induced diabetic rats showed significantly increased levels of plasma glucose, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, lipid hydroperoxides, and conjugated dienes in plasma, liver, kidney, and heart whereas they showed significantly decreased level of plasma insulin. The levels of non-enzymic antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E, reduced glutathione) in plasma, liver, kidney, and heart and the activities of enzymatic antioxidants (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione-S-transferase) in liver, kidney, and heart were significantly decreased in diabetic rats. Administration of kaempferol to diabetic rats was showed brought back in plasma glucose, insulin, lipid peroxidation products, enzymatic, and non-enzymatic antioxidants to near normal.

Conclusion

The present study indicates that kaempferol has a good antioxidant property, as evidenced by its increase of antioxidant status and decrease of lipid peroxidation markers, thus providing protection from the risks of diabetic complications.  相似文献

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) and sorbitol (ST) have each been used inosmotically induced water stress studies in plants, however, these osmotica maynot have equivalent effects in plants. The present study was designed to examinewhether antioxidant enzyme responses in rice leaves are different for PEG and STof osmotic potential –1.5 MPa. As judged by relative watercontent, PEG treatment resulted in a higher degree of water stress in riceleaves than ST treatment. PEG treatment markedly increased lipid peroxidation, judged by malondialdehyde content, in rice leaves. However, ST treatment had noeffect on lipid peroxidation. An increase in peroxidase (POX), ascorbateperoxidase (APX) and glutathione reductase (GR) activities was observed in riceleaves treated with ST. PEG treatment had no effect on POX and APX activitiesand decreased GR activity in rice leaves. The decrease in superoxide dismutaseactivity induced by PEG was more pronounced than by ST. Cycloheximide blockedthe enhanced activities of POX, APX and GR by ST, indicating de novo synthesisof the enzymes. Results suggest that ST but not PEG treatment can up-regulateantioxidant system in rice leaves.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to determine the influence of chicken semen cryopreservation on sperm parameters, lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzymes activities. Pooled semen from 10 Black Minorca roosters was used in the study. Semen samples were subjected to cryopreservation using the “pellet” method and dimethylacetamide (DMA) as a cryoprotectant. In the fresh and the frozen-thawed semen sperm membrane integrity (SYBR-14/propidium iodide (PI)), acrosomal damage (PNA-Alexa Fluor®488) and mitochondrial activity (Rhodamine 123) were assessed using flow cytometry. Malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration, catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities were determined in sperm cells and seminal plasma by spectrophotometry. All sperm characteristics evaluated using flow cytometry were affected by cryopreservation. After freezing-thawing, there was significant (P < 0.01) reduction in sperm membrane integrity, sperm acrosome integrity and mitochondrial activity. Following cryopreservation, MDA concentration significantly increased in chicken seminal plasma and spermatozoa (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). The CAT activity in seminal plasma significantly decreased (P < 0.05), while intracellular activity of this enzyme did not significantly change in frozen-thawed semen. In seminal plasma of frozen-thawed semen the significant increase (P < 0.01) in GPx activity was detected. Whereas GPx activity in spermatozoa remained statistically unchanged after thawing. The SOD activity significantly increased (P < 0.01) in cryopreserved seminal plasma with simultaneous decrease (P < 0.01) of its activity in cells. In conclusion, this is probably the first report describing the level of antioxidant enzymes in frozen-thawed avian semen. The present study showed that the activity of CAT, GPx and SOD in chicken semen was affected by cryopreservation, what increased the intensity of lipid peroxidation (LPO). Catalase appeared to play an important role in the sperm antioxidant defense strategy at cryopreservation since, opposite to SOD and GPx, its content was clearly reduced by the cryopreservation process. Change in the antioxidant defense status of the chicken spermatozoa and surrounding seminal plasma might affect the semen quality and sperm fertilizing ability.  相似文献

Abstract

The rapid emergence of various pesticides in the market is inevitable due to the demands from agriculture industries and domestic needs to control nuisance pests and to sustain green resources worldwide. However, long-term exposure to pesticide has led to adverse effects on male fertility. Organophosphate diazinon (O,O-diethyl-O-[2-isopropyl-6-methyl-4-pyrimidinyl] phosphorothiote) is an often abusively used pesticide, as it is effective and economical. This study is to determine the adverse effects of low-dose diazinon exposure on the male reproductive system. In this study, 72 Sprague–Dawley rats were segregated into 1, 2, and 8 weeks of exposure groups and further sub-grouped (n = 6) to receive 0, 10, 15, and 30 mg/kg body weight diazinon treatment. Rats were gavaged orally with diazinon and sacrificed under anaesthesia the day after the last exposure. Our results showed that consistent diazinon exposure decreased glutathione and catalase, and increased lipid peroxidation which together lead to diazinon-mediated oxidative stress. Additionally, diazinon increased serum lactate dehydrogenase and decreased serum testosterone, which may have caused sperm and histopathological anomalies. In conclusion, exposure to diazinon caused changes in lipid peroxidation and sperm, and these two effects might be causally linked.  相似文献

The effects of oral zinc supplementation on lipid peroxidation and the antioxidant defense system of alloxan (80-90 mg/kg)-induced diabetic rabbits were examined. Forty-five New Zealand male rabbits, 1 year old, weighing approximately 2.5 kg, were allocated randomly and equally as control, diabetic, and zinc-supplemented diabetic groups. After diabetes was induced, zinc-supplemented diabetic rabbits had 150 mg/L of zinc as zinc sulfate (ZnSO(4)) in their drinking tap water for 3 months. The feed and water consumption was higher in diabetic groups than (P<0.01) healthy rabbits. The body weight was lower in diabetic rabbits compared to control. The blood glucose levels were higher in diabetic groups than controls. The elevated plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were determined in the diabetic group (P<0.01). The glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), and ceruloplasmin levels in the diabetic group were decreased by the effect of diabetes but there was no difference between zinc-supplemented diabetic and control rabbits. Serum zinc concentrations were lower in diabetic rabbits but iron (Fe) and copper (Cu) levels in sera were not different among the groups. As a result, it was concluded that daily zinc supplementation could reduce the harmful effects of oxidative stress in diabetics.  相似文献

Abstract

Altered mitochondrial function and free radical-mediated tissue damage have been suggested as an important pathological event in isoproterenol (ISO)-induced cardiotoxicity. This study was undertaken to know the preventive effect of morin on mitochondrial damage in ISO-induced cardiotoxicity in male Wistar rats. Myocardial infarction (MI) in rats was induced by ISO (85 mg/kg) at an interval of 24 hours for 2 days. Morin was given to rats as pre-treatment for 30 days orally using an intragastric tube. ISO-treated rats showed a significant elevation of mitochondrial thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and hydrogen peroxide (HP) level and pre-treatment with morin significantly prevented the increase of TBARS and HP level to near normality. The level of enzymic and non-enzymic antioxidants was decreased significantly in ISO-treated rats and pre-treatment with morin significantly increased the levels of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione-S-transferase, glutathione reductase, and reduced glutathione to normality. The activities of mitochondrial enzymes such as isocitrate dehydrogenase, alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, succinate dehydrogenase, and malate dehydrogenase were decreased significantly in ISO-treated myocardial ischemic rats and upon pre-treatment with morin restored these enzymes activity to normality. In addition, the decreased activities of cytochrome-C oxidase and NADH-dehydrogenases were observed in ISO-treated rats and pre-treatment with morin prevented the activities of cytochrome-C oxidase and NADH-dehydrogenase to normality. Pre-treatment with morin favorably restored the biochemical and functional parameters to near normal indicating morin to be a significant protective effect on cardiac mitochondrial function against ISO-induced MI in rats.  相似文献

Myocardial infarction is one of the most common manifestations of cardiovascular disease. In the present study, we investigated the protective effect of betaine, a potent lipotropic molecule, on changes in the levels of lysosomal enzymes and lipid peroxidation in isoprenaline-induced myocardial infarction in Wistar rats, an animal model of myocardial infarction in man. Male albino Wistar rats were pretreated with betaine (250 mg/kg body weight) daily for a period of 30 days. After the treatment period, isoprenaline (11 mg/100 g body weight) was intraperitoneally administered to rats at intervals of 24 h for 2 days. The activities of lysosomal enzymes (β-glucuronidase, β-galactosidase, β-glucosidase, and acid phosphatase) were significantly (p < 0.05) increased in plasma with a concomitant decline in the activities of these enzymes in heart tissue of isoprenaline-administered rats. Also, the level of lipid peroxidation was higher in heart lysosomes of isoprenaline-injected rats. Pretreatment with betaine daily for a period of 30 days to isoprenaline-induced rats prevented the changes in the activities of these lysosomal enzymes. Oral treatment with betaine (250 mg/kg body weight) to normal control rats did not show any significant effect in all the biochemical parameters studied. Thus, the results of our study show that betaine protects the lysosomal membrane against isoprenaline-induced myocardial infarction. The observed effects might be due to the free radical-scavenging and membrane-stabilizing properties of betaine.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of cold stress on antioxidant enzyme activities and examine protein oxidation and lipid peroxidation in various tissues (brain, liver, kidney, heart and stomach). Twenty male Wistar rats (3 months old) weighing 220 ± 20 g were used. The rats were randomly divided into two groups of ten: the control group and the cold stress group. Cold stress was applied to the animals by maintaining them in a cold room (5 °C) for 15 min/day for 15 days. Blood samples were taken for measuring plasma corticosterone levels. Tissues were obtained from each rat for measuring the antioxidant enzyme activities, protein oxidation and lipid peroxidation. Corticosterone levels were increased in the cold stress group. Copper, zinc superoxide dismutase activities were increased in the brains, livers and kidneys, whereas they decreased in the hearts and stomachs of rats in the cold stress group. Catalase activities were increased in the brains, livers, kidneys and hearts, whereas they decreased in the stomachs of rats in the cold stress group. Selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase activities were increased in the brain, liver, heart and stomach. Reduced glutathione levels were decreased, while levels of protein carbonyl, conjugated diene and thiobarbituric-acid-reactive substances were increased in all tissues of the cold stress group. These results lead us to conclude that cold stress can disrupt the balance in an oxidant/antioxidant system and cause oxidative damage to several tissues by altering the enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant status, protein oxidation and lipid peroxidation.  相似文献

AIM: Oxytocin was previously shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in different inflammation models. The major objective of the present study was to evaluate the protective role of oxytocin (OT) in protecting the kidney against ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Male Wistar albino rats (250-300 g) were unilaterally nephrectomized, and subjected to 45 min of renal pedicle occlusion followed by 6 h of reperfusion. OT (1 mg/kg, ip) or vehicle was administered 15 min prior to ischemia and was repeated immediately before the reperfusion period. At the end of the reperfusion period, rats were decapitated and kidney samples were taken for histological examination or determination of malondialdehyde (MDA), an end product of lipid peroxidation; glutathione (GSH), a key antioxidant; and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, an index of tissue neutrophil infiltration. Creatinine and urea concentrations in blood were measured for the evaluation of renal function, while TNF-alpha and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels were determined to evaluate generalized tissue damage. Formation of reactive oxygen species in renal tissue samples was monitored by chemiluminescence technique using luminol and lucigenin probes. RESULTS: The results revealed that I/R injury increased (p<0.01-0.001) serum urea, creatinine, TNF-alpha and LDH levels, as well as MDA, MPO and reactive oxygen radical levels in the renal tissue, while decreasing renal GSH content. However, alterations in these biochemical and histopathological indices due to I/R injury were attenuated by OT treatment (p<0.05-0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Since OT administration improved renal function and microscopic damage, along with the alleviation of oxidant tissue responses, it appears that oxytocin protects renal tissue against I/R-induced oxidative damage.  相似文献

Alloxan is a diabetogenic drug and is known to induce diabetes through generation of free radicals. The toxic oxygen species can be detoxified by antioxidant enzyme system and thus reduce the deleterious effect of lipid peroxidation. Erythrocytes exposed to alloxan induced lipid peroxidationin vivo as well asin vitro. Although alloxan treatment produced a deleterious effect on antioxidant enzymes, pretreatment with glutathione and selenium led to a recovery of the activities of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase. However, catalase activity increased on alloxan treatment. Alloxan reduced blood glucose level significantly within 60 min but thereafter a slow and steady rise was observed.  相似文献

It is known that aging is characterized by changes in cell metabolism resulting in modification of the structure and function of cell membrane components which is mainly the consequence of reactive oxygen species action. These disturbances are also enhanced by different xenobiotics, e.g. ethanol. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to examine green tea influence on total antioxidant status (TAS) and on composition and electric charge of erythrocyte membrane phospholipids in ethanol intoxicated rats of various ages. Antioxidant abilities of erythrocytes were estimated by measuring TAS. Qualitative and quantitative composition of phospholipids in the membrane was determined by HPLC, while the extent of erythrocytes lipid peroxidation was estimated by HPLC measurement of malondialdehyde (MDA) and 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) levels. Electrophoresis was used to determine the surface charge density of the rat erythrocyte membrane. It was shown that the process of aging was accompanied by a decrease in TAS and in the total amount of phospholipids as well as by enhancement of lipid peroxidation and increase in surface charge density of erythrocyte membrane. Ethanol administration caused, in term, decrease in TAS and increase in the level of all phospholipids and lipid peroxidation products. Ethanol as well significantly enhanced changes in surface charge density of erythrocyte membrane. The ingestion of green tea partially prevented decrease in erythrocyte antioxidant abilities observed during aging and ethanol intoxication. Moreover, long-term drinking of green tea protects the structure of the erythrocytes membrane disturbed during aging process and/or chronic ethanol intoxication.  相似文献

The efficiencies of sinapic acid and its derivatives syringic acid, syringaldehyde, three sinapoyl esters (ethyl, propyl, butyl sinapates), 4-vinylsyringol and sinapine were investigated for prevention of lipid peroxidation in correlation with their interactions with model lipid membrane systems. Significant antioxidant activities of propyl and butyl sinapates were seen by fluorimetric assay in phosphatidylcholine liposomes as model membrane using C11-BODIPY581/591 lipophilic fluorescent probe. The sinapic acid esters also had the highest impact on membrane structural properties, as observed by differential scanning calorimetry and fluorescence polarisation measurements. The greatest protection of phospholipids from peroxidation by these esters correlated well with their polarity and insertion into the lipid bilayer.  相似文献
