Biological diversity and the complexity of the community structure of benthic animals in different bodies of water are evaluated using the Shannon index. The literature data on the communities in Lake Krasnoye (Karelian Isthmus, Leningrad Oblast), Shchuchy Bay of Lake Ladoga, Neva Bay, and the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland have been analyzed. The extrema (maxima and minima) and the inflection point of the curve of functions are determined with the help of derivatives. The rate of the secondary succession is evaluated for the first time by the example of benthic communities. It is shown that the community structure of bottom animals in the Shchuchy Bay ecosystem formed in the process of succession proves to be more complex than in Lake Krasnoye and the Neva Bay communities that have been formed for a long time. Communities of bottom animals are less complex in polluted waters of the top of the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland. It has taken 12 years to reach the maximum diversity of the bottom animal communities in Shchuchy Bay, 16 years in Lake Krasnoye, and 7–10 years in Neva Bay. It is supposed that, under favorable conditions in the waterbodies of a moderate climate and in the absence of heavy pollution or eutrophication, it takes 12–14 years on average to form the most complex community structure of bottom animals (3–4 bit/spec.). In this study, we assessed the impact of bleachedkraft pulp mill effluent (BKME) on the distributionand composition of benthic communities at JackfishBay, Lake Superior. Sediment samples were collectedfrom 44 stations from which several environmentalvariables (extractable organic chlorine [EOCl],metals, organic carbon, particle size, secchi depth,and water depth) and benthic community compositionwere determined. Relationships between environmentalvariables and benthic community structure wereassessed using canonical correspondence analysis(CCA). CCA revealed two distinct biological gradientsat Jackfish Bay, the first associated with degradedbottom sediments and nutrient enrichment and thesecond associated with water depth. Both gradientsrevealed three distinct regions at Jackfish Bay: 1) anarea of highly degraded sediments, located 300–1200 mbelow the outfall, 2) a small, mesotrophic (nutrientenriched) area adjacent to this zone, and 3) remainingareas of Jackfish Bay, including the internalreference sites in Tunnel Bay. Sediments in theimpaired region contained high concentrations oforganic matter (7–21% as loss on ignition [LOI]) andEOCl (up to 5200 mg/kg dw); together these variablesaccounted for 73% of the variation associated withthe first canonical axis of the CCA. This region wasdominated by the oligochaetes Tubifex tubifexand Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri (64–100% of thebenthic community). Sediments in the second regionwere characterized by an abundant and diverse benthiccommunity comprised of benthic harpacticoids,Chironomidae, and oligochaetes. Stations outside ofthese two regions were characterized by a benthiccommunity similar in composition to that expected foroligotrophic Lake Superior waters, including Diporiea sp., Stylodrilus heringianus, Mysis relicta, Sphaerium, Pisidium and benthicharpacticoids. Based on a Monte Carlo significancetest, benthic community structure was significantly(p = 0.01) related to the environmental variablescomprising the first axis of the CCA. Water depth wasthe most important explanatory variable associatedwith the second axis of the CCA; both taxa richnessand abundance declined significantly with increasingdepth. The comprehensive approach employed in thisstudy clearly delineated the occurrence and degree ofimpact on the benthic environment and may be useful infuture risk assessments of sites affected byanthropogenic activity.  相似文献

分别于2018年4月和2019年4月对滆湖入湖河流底栖动物开展调查,并利用生物指数对水质进行生物学评价。结果表明:共鉴定滆湖入湖河流底栖动物28种,以重度耐污种霍甫水丝蚓(优势度为0.46)和中等耐污种铜锈环棱螺(优势度为0.11)占据绝对优势。生物多样性方面以鹤溪河最高,湟里河、扁担河次之,夏溪河及入湖河口最低,水生植物分布是影响各区域底栖动物多样性的重要因素。卡尔森营养状态指数(TSI)与水质污染等级生物评价结果基本一致,以新孟河延伸拓浚工程沿线为界,鹤溪河、夏溪河、湟里河中上游河段处于中度富营养化水平,水体为轻-中污染状态,而下游河段、扁担河及入湖河口处于重度富营养化水平,水体为中-重污染状态。  相似文献

A previous pioneering study of freshwater bodies in Sri Lanka revealed the presence of toxic cyanobacteria in three out of four water bodies tested. It was therefore important to perform a more detailed investigation into the presence of cyanobacteria and their toxins throughout Sri Lanka. The country has a long history of well-planned water management with the agricultural economy and drinking water supply still dependent on thousands of man-made tanks. Seventeen reservoirs from different user categories and different climatic zones were selected to study variations in phytoplankton communities with relation to major nutrients, with particular emphasis on cyanobacteria. The study was carried out during a two-year period and heavy growths or blooms of cyanobacteria observed during the study period were tested for microcystins. The results clearly categorised the 17 reservoirs into four groups parallel to the classification based on the user categories of water bodies. Biomass of total phytoplankton, the abundance of cyanobacteria, the dominance of Microcystis spp. and concentration of nitrate (N) and total phosphorous (P) were the lowest in drinking water bodies and the highest in aesthetic water bodies. Irrigation water bodies showed the second lowest values for phytoplankton biomass, and concentration of N and P, while hydropower reservoirs showed the second highest values for the same parameters. The fraction of cyanobacteria in irrigation waters was higher than that in hydropower reservoirs, but surprisingly the dominance of Microcystis spp. was reversed. Possible reasons for these variations are discussed. More than half of the bloom material tested contained microcystins up to 81microgl(-1). Our findings indicate the potential for high-risk situations due to toxigenic cyanobacterial blooms in susceptible freshwaters of Sri Lanka.  相似文献

The oligochaete fauna of different side arms and other water bodies in the Slovak–Hungarian stretch of the River Danube below Bratislava (r.km 1840 – r.km 1807) was investigated. The structure of the oligochaete assemblages is correlated with the bottom substratum of the river. From data on the composition of the oligochaete fauna, the clustering and ordination analysis divided the inland delta water bodies into three groups supporting the river classification of Roux et al. (1982), i.e. eupotamon, parapotamon and plesiopotamon, but parapotamon and plesiopotamon divided furthermore into two subgroups, which better reflects hydrological conditions, type of substratum, depth of water bodies and presence of macrophytes. Oligochaete assemblages differ in individual type of group and subgroups, not only species composition, but mainly quantitative (average abundance). Analyses of the oligochaete fauna of two of the deepest lakes in Scandinavia — the Norwegian lakes Mjösa (450 m) and Tyrifjorden (295 m), revealed a totally different species composition in the deep profundal compared with the upper profundal - in contact with the nutrient-enriched epilimnion. In both lakes a pronounced thermal stratification develops in the summer, thus the epilimnion receiving gross organic pollution behaves differently from the profundal. The lakes are each effectively divided into two bodies of water with limited water exchange between them, i.e. one major oligotrophic body and one minor more nutrient-rich. Since the 1950s both lakes have been exposed to heavy pollution of various kinds. In Lake Mjösa in 1975 and 1976 unpleasant algal blooms of the blue-green alga Oscillatoria bornetii fa. tenuis occurred. Bottom samples obtained at the same time revealed that the deep central bottoms of the lake were totally dominated by oligotrophic oligochaete indicators, i.e. by Stylodrilus heringianus and Spirosperma ferox, while the fauna of the upper profundal in the vicinity of domestic and agricultural sewage outfalls, wood processing industries, etc. was dominated by Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri and Tubifex tubifex in great abundance, indicating enriched conditions. Several other species indicative of eutrophy, were absent, most of them belonging to the genus Potamothrix. A fairly similar situation exists in Lake Tyrifjorden, where, for instance, in the shallow bay of Steinsfjorden — heavily eutrophied by agricultural wastes — blooms of blue-green algae have caused problems from time to time. The same oligochaete communities as in Lake Mjösa distinguish the central oligotrophic bottoms from the regionally more enriched upper profundal. The likely reasons for an intact profundal oligochaete fauna are great volumes of oxygen-rich hypolimnic water of low temperature and a high bottom/lake surface area ratio.  相似文献

The hyporheic zone and its interactions with coarse surface sediments is increasingly reported by aquatic ecologists because the water exchanges between surface and subsurface are important factors for the understanding of the ecosystem functioning. However, the hyproheic oligochaete assemblages have received less attention than other assemblages such as crustaceans. In addition, studies investigating the incidence of pollution in watercourses have mostly focused on the benthic zone and have neglected the hyporheic zone. Some examples are given from an unpolluted glacial river (Roseg), polluted plains rivers (Moselle, Rhône) and a protected wetland in an urbanized environment. The hyporheic zone kept the memory of past and present incidences of pollution, in particular when downwellings of polluted surface waters to the hyporheic zone predominated. The Active hydrologic Exchange Describers between surface and subsurface (AED oligochaete species) were the same in the glacial river Roseg, the rivers Rhône and Moselle and the urbanized wetland. The predominance of pollution-tolerant species like Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri was observed in polluted groundwater as well as in polluted surface coarse sediments. Moreover, the urbanized wetland exhibited a high species richness, suggesting that the hyporheic zone is a reservoir of species. The oligochaete communities enable biologists to simultaneously assess the pollution incidence, the permeability of coarse habitats, the water exchanges between surface and subsurface, and give an approximate measure of the metabolic activities in the sediments. Consequently, the simultaneous study of surface and hyporheic oligochaete assemblages is of great interest when considering the ecological functioning of watercourses and the incidence of pollution inputs.  相似文献

Bacteria are thought to be closely involved in the biogeochemical cycling of the nutrient elements in freshwater ecosystems. In contrast, little is known about the relationship between the bacterial community structure and the environmental factors. In order to investigate the spatial variety of bacteriplankton community structure in Lake Xuanwu (Nanjing, China) and the effects of water quality on the microbial community composition, denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and multivariate statistical analysis were carried out. Eight major factors of water quality such as total organic carbon, ammonium, nitrate, nitrite, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, dissolved oxygen and pH were measured in eight different samples. The significant differences of water characteristics among different sites were revealed by principal component analysis. Results of multidimensional scaling analysis demonstrated that lake water quality played a crucial role in bacterioplankton community composition. Canonical correspondence analysis was carried out to infer the relationship between environmental variables and bacterial community structure. An influence of total nitrogen, ammonium and pH on the bacterial community was observed. The sequencing analysis results of excised DGGE bands revealed that Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria were the dominant bacterial groups in Lake Xuanwu.  相似文献

【目的】松花江流域是中国最早的工业基地之一,其水生态环境遭到严重破坏,环境保护工作面临巨大挑战。开展松花江流域水质评价及典型生物类群多样性状况调查,可为松花江流域生态系统的保护和修复提供依据。【方法】于2016年7月调查整个松花江流域近岸的大型底栖动物群落组成和测定水质理化指标,开展其水质理化特征评价和生物指数评价,并探讨底栖动物群落分布与水环境因子间的关系。【结果】理化指标评价结果显示,南源松花江水质状况最差,处于中度污染;北源松花江处于轻度污染;梧桐河水质最好,处于良好状态。松花江流域3个河段的底栖动物群落结构存在空间差异性。另外,梧桐河的物种多样性最高,北源松花江次之,南源松花江最低。溶解氧和营养元素K的浓度是驱动底栖动物群落组成发生显著性差异的主要环境因子。生物指数评价结果显示,3个河段水质均处于轻度污染状态。【结论】松花江流域水质处于轻度到中度污染状态。有机污染是松花江流域面临的主要水质环境问题,对松花江流域底栖动物群落结构产生了显著影响。因此,控制有机质的输入是维持松花江流域水生态系统平衡的重要举措之一。  相似文献

为对比青海湖与湖滨淹没区的微生物群落结构及多样性的差异, 利用16S rRNA高通量测序技术, 研究不同环境条件下水体的微生物群落组成的异同。结果表明: 青海湖主湖区及淹没区的细菌在分类门级水平上相对丰度最高的为变形菌门(Proteobacteria, 44.8%), 其次分别隶属于拟杆菌门[Bacteroidetes, (25.9%±7.8)%]、蓝细菌门[Cyanobacteria, (13.6%±5.4)%]、放线菌门[Actinobacteria, (7.54%±9)%]和柔壁菌门[Tenericutes, (3.32%±2)%]。淹没区整体微生物多样性显著高于主湖区水体。部分微生物分类属在两个湖区呈现显著的分布差异暗示这些细菌对于环境特征的适应性。节线藻在青海湖主湖的分布广泛显示其可能在高原咸水湖泊的碳氮循环过程中扮演着重要角色。研究对于深入了解栖居地如何塑造咸水水体微生物群落结构具有重要意义。  相似文献

鄱阳湖湖泊细菌群落组成及结构——以松门山为例   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8  
于2011年5月在鄱阳湖——松门山湖区采集底泥与表层水样,分别提取了表层水体浮游和底泥微生物基因组DNA,利用454高通量测序技术对细菌的16S rRNA基因进行了序列测定,分析了湖泊底泥细菌、水体浮游细菌群落结构特征。结果显示:底泥细菌OTUs(Operational Taxonomic Units)为1454,表层水体浮游细菌OTUs为269;底泥细菌群落比表层水体更加多样化,底泥细菌的物种数大大多于表层水体。同时,底泥细菌群落与表层浮游细菌群落结构存在显著差异。物种分类显示鄱阳湖底泥细菌种类隶属于20门,228属,其中优势种群为δ-变形菌纲(Deltaproteobacteria)、β-变形菌纲(Betaproteobacteria)和疣微菌门(Verrucomicrobia);表层水体浮游细菌隶属于13门116属,优势种群为β-变形菌纲、拟杆菌门(Bacteroidetes)和放线菌门(Actinobacteria)。结果进一步揭示,无论是浮游细菌群落还是沉积物细菌群落,优势细菌种群的基因型多样性更高。  相似文献

The Morphoedaphic Indices for several Sri Lanka inland water bodies (mostly ancient man-made reservoirs) were calculated using conductivity and depth data. The relationship between Morphoedaphic Index MEI and the annual catch of fish C was found to be . Using this equation, the annual potential yields were calculated. The stocking densities of Tilapia fingerlings needed to be stocked were then estimated taking into consideration the natural recruitment of fingerlings from the already existing stocks of reproducing Tilapia.  相似文献

A comparison of the benthic fauna found in two shallow lakes in the New Jersey Pinelands (USA) illustrated the impact of elevated pH and nutrients caused by residential and agricultural disturbance on a naturally acidic, poorly buffered aquatic environment. Detailed community analysis suggested that change in community composition was a better indicator of response to disturbance than biological diversity indices. Chironomidae (insecta) were the predominant components of the benthic macroinvertebrate assemblage of both undisturbed Oswego Lake (low pH, low nutrients) and Nescochague Lake (fluctuating pH, elevated nutrients). The genera Procladius, Tribelos, and Pagastiella dominated Oswego Lake, where as Zalutschia zalutschicola, Procladius, Dicrotendipes, and Tanytarsus dominated Nescochague Lake. Glyptotendipes was a common and unique member of the Nescochague Lake assemblage. Cluster analysis indicated that the chemical differences between lakes were the most important community determinants, although, within each lake, depth and substrate affected the local communities. Oswego Lake exhibited a depauperate nonchironomid benthic fauna typical of low nutrient, acid lakes. In turn, Nescochague Lake exhibited an enriched nonchironomid fauna including mollusks and planaria which were not found in Oswego Lake.  相似文献

A hydrobiological field course for undergraduates in the Department of Biology, University of Salford has proved useful in investigating river pollution, and parts of the course may be suitable for upper school studies. The course compares the Lancashire rivers Lune, Ribble and Irwell, but could be adapted for still waters.

The water quality was assessed by simple chemical methods and the bacteriological quality by multiple tube and membrane filtration techniques. These assessments were then related to the benthic inverte-brates in the rivers—dipteran larvae, oligochaete worms, leeches, molluscs, stoneflies and mayflies. The Irwell was found to be grossly polluted, the Ribble mildly polluted and the Lune relatively unpolluted.  相似文献

The impact of Dreissena (Dreissena polymorpha and D. bugensis) on the benthic bacterial community in lakes is largely unknown. Therefore, we quantified differences in the structure and activity of bacterial communities living in sediments (1) associated with Dreissena clusters, and (2) unassociated with established clusters (lake bottom sediments). Dreissena clusters and sediments were collected from locations in Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, and several inland lakes. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis of the benthic bacterial community showed that the bacterial populations selected for by Dreissena represent a subset of the bottom communities and are geographically distinct. Community-level physiological profiling (CLPP) showed that overall bacterial activity and metabolic diversity were enhanced by the presence of clusters in all samples, with the exception of those harvested from the two Lake Erie sites. Therefore, Dreissena appears to affect both structure and metabolic function of the benthic bacterial community and may have yet unexplored ecosystem and food web consequences.  相似文献

Managing the blood system in disasters is one of the main challenges for any blood transfusion service exposed to natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods and tsunamis, biological threats such as pandemic influenza as well as manmade disruptions and terrorism. Sri Lanka had to face contrasting types of situations. The most unexpected and dreadful one was the 2004 December 26 tsunami catastrophe which cost >30,000 human lives, leaving more than 23,000 injured. Health services were over-burdened with influx of dead bodies and injured people, most due to drowning. Injuries varied from small lacerations to deeper wounds, broken arms, legs, ribs, damaged organs and head injuries. The National Blood Transfusion Service, had to coordinate its blood supply effectively and to manage large number of blood donors during the first few days following tsunami.In contrast to the acute destruction of tsunami, Sri Lanka also faced a “chronic disaster” of 3 decades due to the separatist war waged by the Tamil Tigers, until it was completely terminated in 2009. There were large scale terrorist attacks using suicide bombers, land mines and claymore mines resulting in frequent influxes of dead bodies and injured patients to hospitals.The experiences of Sri Lanka blood system in the face of two contrasting types of disastrous situations are presented.  相似文献

The ecology of nitrogen fixing blue-green algae in rice fieldsof Central Sri Lanka was studied using multi-variate techniquesof analyses. In this study 73 strains of heterocystous blue—greenalgae, belonging to 21 genera were isolated and the distributionof the 46 most abundant strains was examined in relation toecological parameters. Besides pedological factors such as pH, water holding capacityand available phosphorus; environmental factors including rainfalland altitude have shown up as parameters influencing the distributionof the algal species. On the other hand, soil organic carbon,total nitrogen, potassium and calcium, do not appear to playan important role in determining the composition of the algalflora. While certain algal species were ubiquitous in their distributionsome were restricted, and a few even showed a tolerance to standswith low soil pH and low levels of phosphorus. The agronomicpotential of such species is of value especially in relationto rice-growing soils of this District, where low pH and lowlevels of phosphorus are major limiting factors for the profusegrowth of blue—green algae. Phytoplankton viruses are important components of aquatic ecosystems. However, their prevalence and genetic diversity in marine and freshwater systems are largely under estimated owing to the immense size of water bodies and limitations in virus discovery techniques. In this study, we conducted a 1-year survey of phytoplankton virus communities by collecting surface water monthly from an inland lake(East Lake) in China between May 2012 and April 2013. We examined four phytoplankton viruses, i.e., myoviruses, podoviruses, siphoviruses, and phycodnaviruses, and seven sets of primers were used to target conserved genes within these four species. In this year-long investigation, a total of 358 different virus-related sequences from four virus families were obtained. All virus families were detected in all months, except for cyanopodoviruses, which were only identified during eight of the 12 months surveyed. Moreover, virus abundance and diversity changed dynamically over time. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the majority of viral sequences from East Lake, China displayed distinct clustering patterns compared with published sequences. These results supported the existence of a highly diverse and unique phytoplankton virus community in East Lake, China.  相似文献

太湖上游不同类型过境水氮素污染状况   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
利用GPS定位,在春、夏、秋、冬4个季节,对地处太湖上游宜兴地区受农田径流、农村生活污水、水产养殖和畜禽养殖污水污染的过境水体氮素污染状况进行了调查,对不同类型水体中不同形态氮浓度的季节性变化特征进行了分析,比较了不同类型水体的15N自然丰度.结果表明:不同类型过境水氮素污染严重,人为影响强烈,不同的农业生产和人类活动具有不同的污染特征;受农田径流影响的河流,水体受铵态氮污染的风险较小,受硝态氮的污染较重;农村居民区河流主要受农村生活污水影响,水体铵态氮负荷较高;畜禽养殖场附近的河流受养殖污水的影响,水体的氮素污染最为严重,尤其是铵态氮负荷最高;相比之下,养殖鱼塘水体总氮最低,主要以有机氮为主;水体氮素污染受河流季节性环境演变的影响,表现为夏季浓度最低,冬季浓度最高;农田施肥是太湖氮污染的主要来源,但在丰水期生活污水和畜禽养殖废水也会成为太湖重要的污染源.  相似文献
