In this study, a modified version of the gas production technique was used to determine protein fermentation characteristics in rumen fluid of 19 feedstuffs. Performing the incubations in a N-free environment, and with an excess of rapidly fermentable carbohydrates, made N the limiting factor to microbial growth, and so gas production profiles reflected the availability of N from the feed samples. Results showed that fermentation of protein in rumen fluid can be determined with this modified gas production technique, and that there were distinct differences in protein fermentation between the feed samples. Availability of protein for fermentation was highest in wheat, potato pieces and lupin, and lowest in Rumiraap, a formaldehyde treated rapeseed meal, palm kernel expeller and brewery grains. The protein degradation characteristics of the 19 feed ingredients were also determined with the in situ nylon bag technique. With the obtained results, the amount of rumen escape protein (REP) was calculated for each feedstuff. The results showed that the rate of degradation ranged from 0.010/h for Rumiraap to 0.151/h for wheat. The amount of REP ranged from 197 g/kg CP for lupin to 840 g/kg CP for Rumiraap. Comparing the gas production results with the results obtained with the nylon bag technique showed that there was a good relationship between the gas production after 12–25 h of incubation and the calculated amount of REP (r2 = 0.83–0.85). The results show that the adapted gas production technique, being depleted of N and using an excess of rapidly fermentable carbohydrates, is suitable to recognize differences in N availability between feed samples and can be used as an alternative to the nylon bag technique and other in vitro techniques.  相似文献

In situ 15N-labelling was used to provide a quantitative assessment of the total contribution of lupin (Lupinus angustifolius) to below-ground (BG) N accumulation during a growing season under field conditions, and to directly trace the fate of the lupin BG N in the next season, including quantifying the N benefit from lupin to a following wheat (Triticum aestivum) crop. The experiments were conducted at two sites, both experiencing a semi-arid Mediterranean-type climate in the wheat-growing region of Western Australia but with differing soil types, a deep sand (Moora) and a sand-over-clay shallow duplex soil (East Beverley, EB). Lupin shoot and root dry matter and total plant N accumulation, proportional dependence on nitrogen fixation and grain yield were greater at the deep sand site than the duplex soil site, although there was a similar proportion of shoot N to estimated total BG N at both sites. The proportion of total plant BG N decreased from the vegetative stage (42–51%) to peak biomass (25–39%) and maturity (23–34%). From 56–67% of BG N on the deep sand and 74–86% on the duplex soil was not recovered in coarse roots (>2 mm) or as soluble N, but was present in the insoluble organic N fraction. There was evidence for cycling of lupin root-derived N into soil microbial biomass and soluble organic N during lupin growth (by the late vegetative stage), but no evidence for leaching of legume derived BG N during the lupin season. Estimates of fixed N input BG were at least four times greater if based on total lupin BG N rather than on N recovered in coarse roots (>2 mm). There were no apparent losses of lupin BG N during the summer fallow period subsequent to lupin harvest at either site. Also, immediately prior to sowing of wheat there were similar proportions of lupin BG N in the inorganic (20–25%) and microbial biomass (6–9%) pools at both sites, with the majority of BG N detected in the <2 mm fraction of the soil column. However, the proportion of residual lupin BG N estimated to benefit the aboveground wheat biomass was relatively low, 10% on the deep sand and only 3% on the shallow duplex. Some (14%) residual lupin BG N was leached as nitrate to 1 m on the deep sand compared to 8% of residual lupin BG N leached to the clay layer (0.3 m) on the shallow duplex. About 27% of the residual lupin BG N on the deep sand at Moora had apparently mineralised by the end of the succeeding wheat season (i.e. recovered either in the wheat shoots, as inorganic N in the soil profile or as leached nitrate) compared to only 12% at EB. There was an unaccounted for large loss of residual lupin BG N (50%) from the duplex soil at EB during the wheat season, postulated to be chiefly via denitrification. At both sites after the wheat season a substantial proportion (32–55%) of legume derived BG N was still present as residual insoluble organic N, considered to be an important contribution to structural and nutritional long-term sustainability of these soils.  相似文献

Effects of ethanol concentration and duration of treatment of soyabean meal on nitrogen (N) solubility, the kinetics of in situ dry matter, and N disappearance in the rumen were determined. Ground (1 mm) soyabean meal was soaked in 30%, 50%, 70% or 90% ethanol for 12, 24, 36 or 48 h. Seventy percent ethanol solutions applied to soyabean meal for 36 h or less lowered N solubility and the estimated rate of N disappearance, and increased the estimated rumen undegradable protein in soyabean meal compared to untreated soyabean meal. The lowest estimated rate of N disappearance and the highest increase in calculated rumen undegradable protein were observed when soyabean meal was treated with 70% ethanol for 36 h. Extending the application period of 70% ethanol to soyabean meal for more than 36 h removed the beneficial effect that the treatment had on N kinetics in the rumen and was considered excessive. Regardless of the application period, the 30%, 50%, and 90% ethanol solutions applied to soyabean meal did not lower the estimated rate of N disappearance in soyabean meal. However, extending the treatment time of soyabean meal with 90% ethanol for more than 24 h lowered the estimated rate of N disappearance compared to the shorter treatment times and the data suggested that 90% ethanol solutions applied to soyabean meal required longer application periods than 70% ethanol solutions to be effective. It was concluded that treatment of soyabean meal with 70% ethanol for 36 h had the greatest potential to increase rumen undegradable protein.  相似文献

The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is located in the ‘Third Pole’ of the world, characterized by a harsh environment. Despite this, the alpine meadow ecosystem have developed over a wide area but serious grassland degradation is threatening the ecological environment on the Plateau. Recruitment of new plants to the population, via germination and establishment, is vital to plant community survival. Previous work on the seeds in this area has mainly focused on community-wide germination strategies, seed germination characteristics and their correlations with seed size and seed mass. However, there have been no studies on the effects of soaking in rumen contents on the plant seed germination characteristics of alpine meadow species. The present study had two main objectives: (i) to determine the effect of fresh rumen content from yaks on seed germination characteristics and seedling growth of species common to the eastern Tibetan Plateau alpine meadow, and (ii) to develop an effective method to enhance seed germination. Seeds of 11 common species were collected together with fresh rumen content from three yaks that grazed there. Seed germination tests were conducted after they had been soaked in rumen content for one of six soaking periods (12, 24, 36, 48, 60 or 72 h). The seeds were incubated under natural light conditions of 8 h light at 25 °C and 16 h darkness at 15 °C, for the germination period of 34 days. The results showed that seed germination and seedling growth were affected by soaking time, seed coat completeness and seed type. After soaking in rumen content, the germination percentages of scarified (peeled or with the seed coat cut through) seeds of some species (true seeds Oxytropis ochrocephala and Medicago ruthenia var inschanica, nutlet Carex enervis, achenes Anemone rivularis and Polygonum sibiricum) and complete seeds of C. enervis, and A. rivularis were improved but the duration of soaking was also important. Seed germination of caryopsis Achnatherum inebrians (a toxic grass) was significantly inhibited by any exposure to rumen fluids. Scarified seeds generally had higher germination percentages than complete ones after treatment, but with the increase in soaking time, germination percentages declined and scarified seeds were more sensitive to the treatment than the complete seeds. After soaking in yak rumen content, the germination indices of scarified M. ruthenia at 12 h treatment, O. ochrocephala and achene Rumex acetosa at 12–24 h treatment, nutlet Kobresia humilis at 24 h treatment, P. sibiricum at 24–48 h treatment, C. enervis at 12–48 h treatment and A. rivularis at 12–60 h treatment were significantly higher than the control (P < 0.05), while the germination indices of complete C. enervis seeds at 12 h and 36 h treatment, and A. rivularis at 12–60 h treatment were significantly higher compared with the control. The germination indices of other species gradually decreased with the increase in soaking time. We concluded that yak rumen digestion could enhance, inhibit or not affect seed germination and seedling growth of the alpine meadow species, which might influence seedling recruitment, interspecific competition, and the plant community structure of the eastern Tibetan Plateau alpine meadow. Overall, yak digestion has a positive effect on alpine meadow seed germination and seed dispersal.  相似文献

Very fine roots (<0.5 mm in diameter) of forest trees may serve as better indicators of root function than the traditional category of <2 mm, but how these roots will exhibit the plasticity of species-specific traits in response to heterogeneous soil nutrients is unknown. Here, we examined the vertical distribution of biomass and morphological and physiological traits of fine roots across three narrow diameter classes (<0.5, 0.5–1.0, and 1.0–2.0 mm) of Quercus serrata and Ilex pedunculosa at five soil depths down to 50 cm in a broad-leaved temperate forest. In both species, biomass and the allocation of very fine roots were higher in the surface soil but lower below 10-cm soil depth compared to values for larger roots (0.5–2.0 mm). When we applied these diameter classes, only very fine roots of Q. serrata exhibited significant changes in specific root length (SRL; m g−1) and root nitrogen (N) concentrations with soil depth, whereas the N concentrations only changed significantly in I. pedunculosa. The SRL and root N concentrations of larger roots in the two species did not significantly differ among soil depths. Thus, very fine roots may exhibit species-specific traits and change their potential for nutrient and water uptake in response to soil depth by plasticity in root biomass, the length, and the N in response to available resources.  相似文献

Medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) have antimicrobial properties and cause negative or positive effects on animal performance depending on its dosage. We hypothesized that MCFA supplementation at a lower dose (i.e., 0.05–0.2% of dietary DM) would increase rumen pH and milk production without decreasing nutrient digestibility which is typically observed with the higher inclusion rates (i.e., >1% of dietary DM). The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of MCFA supplementation at a lower dose on productivity, plasma energy metabolite concentrations, apparent total tract nutrient digestibility, rumen fermentation, and rumen microbial profile of lactating dairy cows. Thirty (n = 8 primiparous, n = 22 multiparous) Holstein cows in mid-lactation (637 ± 68.5 kg of initial BW, 98.5 ± 27.4 d in milk; mean ± standard deviation) were used in a crossover design with two 28-d periods. The MCFA supplement, consisted of 25% MCFA (containing 32% C8:0, 21% C10:0, 47% C12:0 on DM basis) and 75% carrier ingredients, was fed at 0.25% of dietary DM replacing dry ground corn in control (CON). Total inclusion of MCFA was 0.063% of dietary DM. No differences were observed in DM intake, apparent total tract nutrient digestibility and BW change between MCFA and CON. Milk and milk component yields did not differ between treatment groups. The MCFA supplementation tended to have higher minimum rumen pH (5.66 vs. 5.54), and decreased daily fluctuation range of rumen pH (1.17 vs. 1.40) compared to CON. However, the duration of acidosis (pH < 5.8, min/d) did not differ between treatment groups and ruminal total volatile fatty acid concentration and its profile did not differ between treatment groups. For rumen microbiota, the Chao1 index of bacterial community tended to be lower (10.9 vs. 11.6) whereas the Shannon index did not differ (0.91 vs. 0.93) in MCFA compared to CON, and both indices did not differ for archaeal and protozoan communities between treatment groups. The relative abundance of Methanobrevibacter gottschalkii increased when supplemented with MCFA (5.14 vs. 4.92%). These results suggest that supplementation of MCFA at 0.063% dietary DM may not affect overall animal performance or total tract nutrient digestibility, but decrease the daily range of pH and the bacterial richness in the rumen.  相似文献

The effect of whole lupin seeds (Lupinus albus cv Lublanc) at 120, 150 and 195 degrees C on in situ nitrogen degradability (Dg.N) was measured by the nylon bag technique using fistulated non-lactating Holstein cows. The N degradation was evaluated in nylon bags suspended in the rumen; heating the seeds at 120, 150 and 195 degrees C decreased the Dg.N value: 83.9, 72.9 and 53.0 respectively vs 95.3% (rumen outflow rate of 0.06/h). To estimate the total N disappearing in the digestive tract, bags were incubated in the rumen for 16 h, then in a pepsin bath for 2 h and then introduced into the duodenum for subsequently recovery in feces. The whole tract degradability of N was always high, approximately 98.3%. The amounts of N which disappeared in the intestine increased from 3.1 (untreated seeds) to 15.1, 26.3 and 44.7% as the temperature rose to 120, 150 and 195 degrees C respectively. The PDIN and PDIE contents (g/kg of DM) of the raw whole lupin seeds were 224 and 84 respectively; extrusion elevated these values by 10-32% for PDIN and 57-194% for PDIE. The augmentation in the supply of dietary proteins to the postruminal parts as a result of extrusion could rapidly benefit high yielding cows.  相似文献

Chopped maize stover, ammoniated at ambient and elevated temperatures or steam treated, was evaluated with four Cheviot crossbred wethers fitted with permanent rumen fistulae in a 4 × 4 Latin square design. Treatments were: (i) control, 60% H2O, ensiled for at least 40 days; (ii) 3% NH3, 60% H2O for 30 days at 21°C; (iii) 3% NH3, 60% H2O for 12 h at 90°C; (iv) steamed at 16.2 kg/cm2 and 213°C for 4 min. The sheep received two meals per day at a restricted level of 90% of lowest ad libitum intake. The markers 51Cr-EDTA (100 μ ci) and 103Ru-phenanthroline complex (10 μ ci) were used for the liquid and particulate phases, respectively. Samples for rumen metabolites were collected in each period at 0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 6.0 and 8.0 h after the morning meal. On the following day, a mixture of the markers in 200 ml of demineralized water was infused into the rumen in a single dose and rumen fluid was sampled at specific times for 4 days.Rumen fluid pH tended to be lower with ammoniated stovers. High NH3-N levels were maintained with ammoniated stovers, indicating gradual release of nitrogen. Total VFA tended to increase more with the thermoammoniated stover. Molar proportions of propionate increased (P < 0.05) and butyrate decreased (P < 0.05) with ammoniation. In contrast, steam treatment increased (P < 0.05) molar proportions of acetate and butyrate. The largest decrease (P < 0.05) for C2 : C3 acids occurred with thermoammoniated stover. Treatments with NH3 or steam increased (P < 0.05) dilution rate. Mean retention time of particulate matter was decreased (P < 0.05) by treatment, being shortest with steamed material.  相似文献

Four lactating cows fitted with permanent ruminal, duodenal and ileal cannulae were used to study the effect of extrusion of whole lupin seeds at 195 degrees C (Lupinus albus cv Lublanc) on organic matter (OM) and nitrogen (N) degradation in the rumen and their flow to and absorption from the small intestine. Raw whole lupin seeds (RWLS) and extruded whole lupin seeds (EWLS) were fed in diets containing 15.5% crude protein and composed of 22.6% whole lupin seeds, 56.5% corn silage, 10.2% corn grain and 10.7% Italian ray-grass on a DM basis, supplemented with vitamins and minerals. Chromium ethylenediaminotetraacetic (Cr-EDTA) and ytterbium chloride (YbCl3) were used as liquid and particulate markers respectively, while purines and 15N ammonium sulfate were utilized as bacterial markers. Cows fed EWLS had a similar ruminal ammonia N and volatile fatty acid concentrations and efficiency of bacterial protein synthesis compared to those fed the RWLS diet. Total tract OM and N digestion were not affected by inclusion of EWLS instead of RWLS; the corresponding mean values were 70 and 71%. Apparent degradation of OM and N in the rumen were 44 and 64% for diets containing RWLS, and 40 and 39% for EWLS diets. Feeding diets including EWLS both increased non ammonia N and dietary N flow to the duodenum compared with diets containing RWLS (472 vs 357 g/d) and (263 vs 153 g/d) respectively. Absorption from the small intestine (g/d and % entering) of dietary N was higher for EWLS diets (146 vs 62 g/d; 34 vs 15%). The PDIA, PDIE and PDIN contents (g/kg of DM) of RWLS were 18, 94 and 245 respectively; the corresponding values after extrusion were 145, 220 and 220.  相似文献

Anthers cultures of six Polish cultivars of pasture lupin (Lupinus L.) were examined for their androgenic response. Anthers with microspores at the uninucleate stage were isolated from flower buds and cultured in liquid media. Better viability of androgenetic structures was obtained when donor plants had grown under field as opposed to greenhouse conditions. A density of five anthers per 0.5 ml medium was more conducive to androgenetic induction than 25 anthers per 0.5 ml medium. Addition of 5% maltose to the induction medium and culture at 25°C without pre-treatment of flowers, buds or anthers promoted microspore release and division. The greatest frequency of androgenic callus, ~70% was developed from cvs. Katon, Wat (white lupin), in contrast to cvs. Legat, Juno (yellow lupin), Polonez and Sonet (narrow-leafed lupin) with callus induction ~30–40%. Despite various combinations of media tested, plant regeneration was not obtained from anther derived callus.  相似文献

The following bead mills used for disruption of the microalga Chlorella cells were tested: (1) Dyno-Mill ECM-Pilot, grinding chamber volume 1.5 L; KDL-Pilot A, chamber volume 1.4 L; KD 20 S, chamber volume 18.3 L; KD 25 S, chamber volume 26 L of Willy A. Bachofen, Basel, Switzerland, (2) LabStar LS 1, chamber volume 0.6 L of Netzsch, Selb, Germany, (3) MS 18, chamber volume 1.1 L of FrymaKoruma, Neuenburg, Germany. Amount of disrupted cells decreased with increasing Chlorella suspension feed rate and increased up to about 85% of the beads volume in the grinding chamber of the homogenizers. It also increased with agitator speed and number of passes of the algae suspension through the chamber. The optimum beads diameter was 0.3–0.5 mm in the homogenizers Dyno-Mill and LabStar LS 1 and 0.5–0.7 mm in the homogenizer MS 18. While the degree of the cell disruption decreased with increasing cell density in Dyno-Mill and LabStar, the cell disruption in the MS 18 increased. Depending on processing parameters, more than 90% of algae cells were disrupted by passing through the bead mills and bacteria count in algae suspension was reduced to about two orders.  相似文献

Edible insects are increasingly recommended as novel sustainable protein sources, but the nutritional properties of edible insects have not been well studied. We investigated whether locust powder can be used as a nutritionally functional food resource with a low energy value using a rat model. Twenty-five male Wistar rats (4-week-old) were fed a basal diet (12 g daily) to which a fixed amount of locust powder (0, 0.5, 1.0, or 2.0 g) was added for 20 days (L0, L0.5, L1.0, and L2.0 groups, respectively). In the sucrose standard group, rats received 12 g of the basal diet daily and 2.0 g of sucrose daily for 20 days (S2.0 group). Body-weight gain and the nutritional composition of the carcasses and feces were determined to estimate the available energy value of locust powder. The L0.5 group had the lowest carcass fat content and energy accumulation, but these values were increased by locust powder in a dose-dependent manner. The net energy value of locust powder was estimated to be 2.78 kcal/g, which was expected to be lower than the calculated theoretical value (4.25 kcal/g) and that of sucrose (3.94 kcal/g). Fecal nitrogen excretion was increased by dietary locust powder in a dose-dependent manner (correlation coefficient, R = 0.98), and the carcass nitrogen percentage was not changed, regardless of the dietary content of the locust powder, indicating an increased excretion of proteins or other non-protein nitrogen compounds derived from the locust powder. These findings suggest that locust powder can be used as a novel food material with a low energy value for humans.  相似文献

To evaluate the potential of Commelina benghalensis as a forage for ruminants, effects of plant maturity on chemical composition, rumen degradability as well as its increased dietary inclusion level on intake, digestibility and N balance in sheep fed Sorghum almum were investigated with forage obtained from the wild, re-established and harvested at 6, 10 and 14 weeks of growth. Composite herbage samples were analyzed for dry matter (DM), chemical components, total extractable phenolics (TEP) and amino acid content. In sacco rumen degradability measurements used six individually confined wethers (8 ± 0.5 months of age; 21 ± 2.6 kg live-weight (LW)) fitted with rumen cannulae and fed a ration of 3:1 fresh S. almum and Medicago sativa hay (about 1:2 on a DM basis). In sacco bags containing 5 g each of dry herbage were inserted into the rumen and withdrawn sequentially after 0, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h. Metabolizable energy (ME) was estimated from 24 h in vitro gas production. In the digestibility study, 12 wethers fitted with rumen canula were housed in metabolic crates and allotted to four treatment diets (i. e., D0, D10, D20 and D30) constituted from fresh S. almum and pre-wilted C. benghalensis in a randomized complete block design. The control diet (D0) was 3 kg fresh S. almum (≈535.5 g DM/wether/d about 30 g/kg LW), whereas D10, D20 and D30 were D0 +300, 600 or 900 g of wilted C. benghalensis (≈34, 68 or about 102 g DM/wether/d), respectively. The study lasted for 21 d. Dry matter, fibre and TEP content increased (P<0.001) with maturity of the forage, whereas those of CP and EE decreased (P<0.0001) over the same period. Amino acids (AA) also declined with maturity (P<0.05). Rumen degradability of DM and OM were unaffected, but DM intake increased linearly (P<0.0001) at a decreasing rate (Q: P<0.05) and DM digestibility (DMD) and N intake increased linearly (P<0.01 and P<0.0001, respectively) as level of C. benghalensis in the diet increased. Results indicate that advancing maturity affected chemical composition, but not rumen degradability, of C. benghalensis and also demonstrated that inclusion of C. benghalensis in S. almum diet improved intake, digestibility and N intake, suggesting its potential use as a feed supplement.  相似文献

Frugivorous animals play a major role in dispersing tropical, and to a lesser extent, temperate tree species. In order to attract potential seed dispersers, plants generally offer a reward of fleshy fruit pulp. Criteria for fruit choice by avian frugivores are influenced by a number of non-nutritive (e.g. fruit size and colour) factors; and nutritional composition of the fruit. There is a paucity of nutritional composition and other fruit trait data of indigenous South African fruit. This information is necessary in order to determine which frugivores are likely to ingest which fruits and consequently act as potential seed dispersal agents. This information would provide us with an understanding of the inter-relationships between indigenous fruit and frugivores in South Africa. Consequently nutritional composition was investigated in various indigenous fruit species that avian frugivores feed on. Fruits were collected from 38 indigenous tree species found in KwaZulu-Natal Afromontane and coastal forests. Pulp was freeze-dried to constant mass and then analysed for sugar, lipid and protein content; and for water content determination. Fruit width in this study ranged from 4 mm (Searsia rehmanniana and Trema orientalis) to 40 mm (Annona senegalensis, Ficus sur and Xylotheca kraussiana). Of the fruits examined in this study 29% were black and 43% were red when ripe. Most (84%) fruit species analysed for sugar content were hexose dominant with 50% being fructose and 34% being glucose dominant. Only 16% of the fruit species analysed were sucrose dominant. Fruits in this study were generally observed to be high (mean: 68.1 ± 3.3%; n = 30) in water content; and low in protein and lipid content respectively (mean: 8.2 ± 0.5%; 9.3 ± 2.2%; n = 30) indicating that these fruit species could be considered as nutrient-dilute. Future studies need to determine the nutritional composition of the remaining indigenous South African fruit in order to develop a comprehensive database as well as examining non-nutritive factors.  相似文献

Length‐weight relationships (LWRs) were determined for nine fish species occurring in the Three Gorges Reservoir(28°56′–31°44′N, 106°14′–111°28′E). Fish were collected using gill nets, including two of 1.0 m depth, 100 m long, and mesh size of 0.5 cm; two of 1.0 m deepth, 150 m long, and mesh size of 2.0 cm; and one of 1.5 m deepth, 100 m long, and mesh size of 6.0 cm. Gill nets were set over night including different habitats (riffles and pools, vegetated and non vegetated zones) from seven sites seasonally from January 2014 to January 2018. The first LWR reference for Jinshaia abbreviata (Günther, 1892), and Triplophysa tanggulaensis (Zhu, 1982) and new maximum lengths for other seven species are provided when comparing with records given in the international electronic databank FishBase (Froese & Pauly, FishBase. World Wide Web electronic publication, 2018).  相似文献

This study focused on the effects of three additives given together with a hay/concentrate-based diet on nutrient digestibility, rumen fermentation, and methane emission from sheep. The basal diet consisted of 1.29 kg mixed hay and 0.43 kg concentrate mixture based on dry matter (DM). Treatments consisted of control (no additive), flavomycin40 (250 mg/d), ropadiar from an oregano extract (250 mg/d), and saponin in the form of a yucca schidigera extract (170 mg/d). Results indicated that intake and digestibility were unaffected by treatments (P>0.05). The NH3-N concentration of rumen liquor was lower (P<0.05) for additive treatments versus the control treatment. Higher concentrations of volatile fatty acid (VFA) were observed in the saponin (75.8 mmol/L) and ropadiar (73.1 mmol/L) treatments. The proportion of individual fatty acid of rumen liquor was unchanged, whereas lower ratio of acetate to propionate in the saponin treatment was observed (P<0.05). The average methane production expressed on digested organic matter (OM) and neutral detergent fiber (aNDFom) basis were decreased by approximately 3.3 and 12.0 g/kg, respectively in saponin, and 4.2 and 11.9 g/kg in ropadiar treatment compared to the control. Methane production was positively correlated with the concentrations of NH3-N, and negatively correlated with total VFA and the proportion of propionate of rumen liquor (P<0.05). The study found that saponin and ropadiar could have the potential to reduce rumen methanogenesis in sheep.  相似文献

An assemblage of planktonic foraminifera is described from 125 samples taken from the Cercado, Gurabo, and Mao Formations in the Cibao Valley, northern Dominican Republic. The primary objectives of this study are to establish a biochronologic model for the late Neogene of the Dominican Republic and to examine sea surface conditions within the Cibao Basin during this interval. The Cercado Formation is loosely confined to Zones N17 and N18 (∼ 7.0–5.9 Ma). The Gurabo Formation spans Zones N18 and N19 (∼ 5.9–4.5 Ma). The Mao Formation is placed in Zone N19 (∼ 4.5–3.6 Ma). Changes in the relative abundances of indicator species are used to reconstruct sea surface conditions within the basin. Increasing relative abundances of Globigerinoides sacculifer and Globigerinoides ruber, in conjunction with a decreasing relative abundance of Globigerina bulloides, suggests the onset of increasing sea surface temperature and salinity in conjunction with diminishing primary productivity at ∼ 6.0 Ma. Abrupt increases in the relative abundances of G. sacculifer and G. ruber at ∼ 4.8 Ma suggest a major increase in sea surface temperature and salinity in the early Pliocene. The most likely mechanism for these changes is isolation of the Caribbean Ocean through progressive restriction of Pacific–Caribbean transfer via the Central American Seaway. Periods of high productivity associated with upwelling events are recorded in the upper Cercado Formation (∼ 6.1 Ma) and in the middle Mao Formation (∼ 4.2 Ma) by spikes in G. bulloides and Neogloboquadrina spp. respectively. The timing of major increases in sea surface salinity and temperature as well as decreasing productivity (∼ 4.8 Ma) and periods of upwelling (∼ 6.1and 4.2 Ma) in the Cibao Basin generally corroborate previously suggested Caribbean oceanographic changes related to the uplift of Panama. Changes in sea surface conditions depicted by paleobiogeographic distributions in the Cibao Basin suggest that shoaling along the Isthmus of Panama had implications in a shallow Caribbean basin as early as 6.0 Ma. Major paleobiologic changes between ∼ 4.8 and 4.2 Ma likely represent the period of final closure of the CAS and a nearly complete disconnection between Pacific and Caribbean water masses. This study illustrates the use of planktonic foraminifera in establishing some paleoceanographic conditions (salinity, temperature, productivity, and upwelling) within a shallow water basin, outlining the connection between regional and localized oceanographic changes.  相似文献

Effects of fatty acids of linseed in different forms, on ruminal fermentation and digestibility were studied in dry cows fitted with ruminal and duodenal cannulas. Four diets based on maize silage, lucerne hay and concentrates (65/10/25 dry matter (DM)) were compared in a 4 × 4 Latin square design experiment where the diets were: control diet (C), diet RL supplied 75 g/kg DM rolled linseeds, diet EL supplied 75 g/kg DM extruded linseeds, and diet LO supplied 26 g/kg DM linseed oil and 49 g/kg DM linseed meal. The diets did not differ in total organic matter (OM) and fibre digestibility, in forestomach and intestinal OM digestibility, and in duodenal N flow. Microbial N duodenal flow tended to be lower for RL versus C diet (P<0.1). Extrusion did not reduce ruminal crude protein (CP) degradation in vivo and in situ. Volatile fatty acid concentration and pattern, and protozoa concentration in the rumen, did not vary among diets. Results confirm the absence of a negative effect of a moderate supply of linseed on rumen function, as well as no effect of extrusion on its ruminal CP degradability.  相似文献

This study aimed to investigate the effects of different concentrations of soybean lecithin (SL; 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%) and egg yolk (EY) in Tris-based extenders on the semen quality parameters of post-thawed goat semen. Sixteen ejaculates were collected from eight healthy, mature Chongming White goats (3–5 years of age). Each ejaculate was divided into five equal aliquots, and then each pellet was diluted with one of the five Tris-based extenders containing 20% EY, 0.5% SL, 1% SL, 2% SL, or 3% SL. The cooled diluted semen was loaded into 0.5 mL polyvinyl French straws and cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen. Frozen semen samples were thawed at 37 °C and assessed for sperm motility, viability, plasma acrosome integrity, membrane integrity, and mitochondria integrity, and the spermatozoa were assessed for reactive oxygen species (ROS), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and malondialdehyde (MDA). The semen extended in the 2.0% SL extract tended to have a higher sperm viability (57.44%), motility (52.14%), membrane integrity (45.31%), acrosome integrity (52.96%), and mitochondrial activity (50.21%) than the other SL-based extender concentrations (P < 0.05). The 2.0% SL treatment group was equivalent to the semen extended in 20% EY (P > 0.05). The extenders supplemented 20% EY or 2.0% SL significantly increased the SOD activity and decreased the ROS and MDA activities compared to the other groups (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the extenders supplemented with 20% EY and 2.0% SL had similar effects on spermatozoa preservation. These results indicate that a soybean lecithin-based diluent may be used as an alternative extender to egg yolk for the cryopreservation of goat semen.  相似文献

This research adds to the limited data on coarse and fine root biomass for blue oak (Quercus douglasii Hook and Arn.), a California deciduous oak species found extensively throughout the interior foothills surrounding the Central Valley. Root systems of six blue oak trees were analyzed using three methods — backhoe excavation, quantitative pits, and soil cores. Coarse root biomass ranged from 7 to 177 kg per tree. Rooting depth for the main root system ranged from 0.5 to 1.5 m, with an average of 70% of excavated root biomass located above 0.5 m. Of the total biomass in excavated central root systems, primary roots (including burls) accounted for 56% and large lateral roots (> 20 mm diameter) accounted for 36%. Data from cores indicated that most biomass outside of the root crown was located in fine roots and that fine root biomass decreased with depth. At surface depths (0–20 cm), small-fine (< 0.5 mm diameter) roots accounted for 71%, large-fine (0.5–2.0 mm) for 25%, and coarse (> 2 mm) for 4% of total root biomass collected with cores. Mean fine root biomass density in the top 50 cm was 0.43 kg m−3. Fine root biomass did not change with increasing distance from the trees (up to approximately 5 m). Thus, fine roots were not concentrated under the tree canopies. Our results emphasize the importance of the smallest size class of roots (<0.5 mm), which had both higher N concentration and, in the area outside the central root system, greater biomass than large fine (0.5–2.0 mm) or coarse (> 2.0 mm) roots. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献
